Take Your Torture Photos to Church Day

Predictably, recent polling found that white evangelical Christian Americans are more likely to support torture, followed by white Catholics, other white protestants, and trailing far behind: the non-religious.

Christian Zionists Snap at the Heels of A Man From Galilee

The next speaker from the floor challenged to the Archbishop’s strong assertion that God never favors killing. This bible educated churchgoer set out to prove that God does endorses killing if he wants to. Drawing on a large Study Bible, the floor speaker said Joshua received direct instructions from God to annihilate entire tribes in the course of land acquisition. By inference he imputed this same authority to political Israel now, which presumably may also annihilate the present day Philistines with God’s Blessing. Elias Chacour simply objected to his interpenetration.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Which is really absurd since the population of present-day political Israel is mostly the descendants of converted Khazars, and the people they are killing in Palestine are direct descendants of the Biblical Israelites, including the extended family of Jesus himself.

Economic Casualties Pile into Tent Cities

Marshall is among a growing number of the economic homeless, a term for those newly displaced by layoffs, foreclosures or other financial troubles caused by the recession. They differ from the chronic homeless, the longtime street residents who often suffer from mental illness, drug abuse or alcoholism.

For the economic homeless, the American ideal that education and hard work lead to a comfortable middle-class life has slipped out of reach. They're packing into motels, parking lots and tent cities, alternately distressed and hopeful, searching for work and praying their fortunes will change.

FED Inspector General Know Roughly Nothing About the FED

The inspector general tasked with overseeing and auditing the Federal Reserve knows pretty much nothing about what the Fed is doing. That's the conclusion that comes from watching the exchange Tuesday between Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) and inspector general Elizabeth A. Coleman.

Coleman could not tell Grayson what kind of losses the Fed has so far suffered on its $2 trillion portfolio, which has greatly expanded since September.

The G.O.P. Is Finished — Stick a Fork in It

The experts think the Republican Party can get up off the canvas and stage a comeback, but don’t bet on it. The poor GOP isn’t really even a party anymore; it’s more like a vaudeville troupe scuttling from one backwater to the next performing the same worn slapstick. No wonder party membership is in the tank. Who wants to stick with a loser. George Bush drove a stake through the heart of the Party with his gratuitous wars and his reckless spending. He left behind a bloated, intrusive, out-of-control Federal government and an economy in tatters. Things have gotten so bad, the Party has a hard time fielding a second place candidate in a two-person race.

AIPAC has summer camps - part of a 30 year plan

For AIPAC, that message is ensuring that campus student organizations toe a pro-Israel line and that all campus initiatives to disinvest in Israel are defeated.

But it is not just America’s college students who are being subjected to AIPAC’s right-wing propaganda blitzkrieg. This editor overheard a conversation by another AIPAC attendee about continued non-profit funding for a network of summer camps to stress support for Israel and “Jewishness” among the generation following in the footsteps of college students and the generation following that. Clearly understood in the conversation was that the effort was planning for 30 years into the future.

A misdirected US air strike has killed as many as 120 Afghans, including dozens of women and children. The attack is the deadliest such bombing involving civilian casualties so far in the eight years since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan.

Families in two villages in Farah province in western Afghanistan were digging for bodies in the ruins of their mudbrick houses yesterday. "There were women and children who were killed," said Jessica Barry, a Red Cross spokeswoman. "It seemed they were trying to shelter in houses when they were hit." Survivors said the number of dead would almost certainly to rise as the search for bodies continued.

Computer hard drive sold on eBay 'had details of top secret U.S. missile defence system'

Highly sensitive details of a US military missile air defence system were found on a second-hand hard drive bought on eBay.

The test launch procedures were found on a hard disk for the THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defence) ground to air missile defence system, used to shoot down Scud missiles in Iraq.

The disk also contained security policies, blueprints of facilities and personal information on employees including social security numbers, belonging to technology company Lockheed Martin - who designed and built the system.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, simply deleting files does not destroy the data. The computer's delete command just wipes out the directory. The data is still there and easy to recover.

If you are selling or giving away a hard drive, FORMAT IT, preferably more than once. Personally, I would physically destroy my old hard drives rather than sell or give them away.

If you are selling or giving away a computer, you need to repeatedly over-write the files using tools which can be found online. Even this can be risky since modern computers are designed to leave "forensics files" hidden in places where the users are not likely to look containing information of potential interest to law enforcement. When I process a computer for "Hawaii's Computers For Kids" I will mil-spec wipe the drive completely, then reinstall a new operating system. These days I put LINUX and Open Office on the machines since Microsoft is being such pricks about donating XP to charities.

Peres: Israel Won’t Rule Out ‘Other Options’ Against Iran

Speaking before a group of Jewish leaders and diplomats in New York today, Israeli President Shimon Peres says the nation will not “cross out any other options” in dealing with the Iranian nuclear program in the event that the US diplomatic endeavor fails to see the program dismantled.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Iran's nuclear program consists of a power station and the manufacturing of fuel rods for it, both activities Iran is legally allowed to so under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Unlike Israel, Iran's nuclear facilities are subject to outside inspection by the IAEA and despite Israel's obvious war-mongering propaganda, the hard fact remains that no evidence exists that Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapon.

We have all been down this road before. Israel made the same accusations against Iraq; that the power station being built at Osirik concealed a clandestine weapons laboratory. Following the invasion in 2003, inspectors examined the ruins of the Osirik complex that Israel had bombed and found no indications of any weapons activity.

Anyone think Israel is any more accurate with their claims about Iran?

Israel Reacts With Shock, Dismissal at US Calls to Join NPT

Yesterday’s comments by Assistant Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller, suggesting that the Obama Administration would like every nation, including Israel to join the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) came as a considerable shock to the Middle Eastern nation, which has for the past 40 years kept its nuclear arsenal one of the most poorly-kept secrets in the world.

Israeli officials dismissed the call, citing Iran’s membership in the NPT as proof that the pact is not “a miracle cure for the world’s ills.” The Israeli Foreign Minister has reportedly contacted the US for confirmation, unwilling to believe that a US officials could possibly suggest they should be a party to the non-proliferation agreement.

Chaos by design?

As the world teeters on the brink of financial disaster, leaders are calling for a new world order. As early as the late 1990s, David Rockefeller, author of the idea of private power that is due to replace the governments, said that the world was on the threshold of global changes. He invoked the need of "some large-scale crisis that will make people accept the new world order..." Is the current crisis being used as a mechanism to stoke civil fear and unrest, inducing people to succumb to a system of transnational private power? Olga Chetverikova believes we are in the final stage of that long-time planned ?global control? agenda.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The world's people see that globalism is what turned a US economic mess into a global catastrophe. Selling them more globalism as a solution is going to be tough.

What happens if there is only a single global government the next time a Hitler comes to power? Or a Bush? Who will stop them from declaring a particular group of people as no longer necessary to the smooth functioning of the planet and ordering their "erasure?"

Look how badly our leaders have run the country. Think they will do any better with an entire planet? If a kid crashes his VW, do you allow him to drive a bus as a reward?

A War No Longer on Autopilot: What if Iraq Unravels?

The signature shift in President Barack Obama's handling of the wars he inherited from the Bush Administration has been to reverse their order of priority. The campaign against the Taliban and al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan has eclipsed the stabilization of Iraq in Washington's focus, which is hardly surprising given the trend lines in the two wars. While Afghanistan and Pakistan have been sharply deteriorating, the assumption has been that Iraq is on course to a more or less acceptable outcome.

However, in recent weeks, insurgents in Iraq have begun to challenge their relegation in the order of U.S. strategic priorities...

FLASHBACK - 'Respecting Lebanon's Sovereignty'

Foxman was invited to the studio to comment on Kofi Annan's announcement that four UN observers had been apparently killed by Israel deliberately. From the odd choice of "expert" for this subject to the style and content, the "interview" – in a prestigious foreign news weekly magazine – looked like propaganda from the darkest regimes. Moderator Yaakov Achimeir stated time and again as a matter of fact that the observers had been killed "by accident," so that the only realm left to investigate was Annan's personal psychopathology for suggesting otherwise.

I have reluctantly concluded, after detailed study of the evidence presented by the IPCC, that there are no convincing scientific arguments to support the claim that increases in greenhouse gases are harmful to the climate. [...]

The IPCC “central/benchmark projections” are based on a combination pf ridiculously oversimplified models and unrealistic futures scenarios. Time running out to stop Iran nuclear pursuit, investigator says

New York District Attorney Robert Morgenthau told a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing that although he's not an expert on proliferation, many such experts were consulted in the financial probes "and it comes out loud and clear: It is late in this game and we don't have a lot of time to stop Iran from developing long-range missiles and nuclear weapons."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Let me see if I have this right.

Morgenthau, who is paid by the taxpayers of New York to protect the taxpayers of New York from crime, is using his tax-payer funded time to proselytize Israel's war propaganda to Congress.

Morgenthau, who is paid by the taxpayers of New York to protect the taxpayers of New York from crime, is pushing the idea of Americans going off to fight yet another war on Israel's enemies, which will presumably kill and cripple many of those same New Yorkers whose taxes pay Morgenthau's salary and expenses.

Morgenthau, who is paid by the taxpayers of New York to protect the taxpayers of New York from crime, openly admits he knows nothing about nuclear proliferation, yet CNN carries his rant as straight news even though the IAEA inspectors in Iran continue to confirm that Iran is building a nuclear power station and UNLIKE Israel, does not conceal a nuclear weapons factory underneath their reactor.

And even IF Iran had a nuclear weapon, they are STILL not a threat to the United States because the United States has been spending your tax money, not on schools, hospitals, and roads, but on bombs. Lots of them. And nobody dares attack us, not even Iran (whic hasn;t attacked anyone in the last 200 years anyway).

I hope the taxpayers of New York wake up and realize that Morgenthau, who is paid by the taxpayers of New York to protect the taxpayers of New York from crime, is helping to sell their children into slavery for Israel's wars.

Climate Model Predictions: It’s Time for a Reality Check

To forecast global warming, we need to know how the average climate state — and especially clouds — will change in response to the little bit of warming from the extra CO2. Indeed, the model that best replicates the average climate of the Earth might be the worst one at predicting future warming.

This fact gets glossed over – or totally ignored – as the IPCC dazzles us with the level of effort that has been invested in computer modeling of the climate system over the last 20 years. The IPCC can show how many people they have working on improving the models, how many years and how much money has been invested, how big and fast their computers are, and how many peer-reviewed scientific publications have resulted.

The reason Boston has such a crime problem is that the gun laws disarm the law-abiding citizens while offering only minor inconvenience to criminals.

Drowning in oil, Supertankers sit idle, and -OIL rises 60% under Obama- CHANGE YOU KNOW YOU CAN BELIEVE IN!

Wall Street Journal - the newspaper of market suckers - Brian Baskin

NEW YORK -- Crude futures surged to nearly a six-month high Thursday, driven by the prospect of higher oil demand as major economies recover.

[Oh yea, the economy is in great shape. The banks are stealing only slightly faster than the oil companies, so YOU should feel just peachy living in that minivan with the bald tires under the bridge with your three kids and that wife of yours who's taken to talking to herself about suicide being the only way out. Buy a gun, Bubba. Buy a gun.]

Justice Dept. drops case against war resister Watada

In Feb. 2007, military judge Lieutenant Colonel John Head halted Watada’s case following possible inconsistencies concerning a “stipulation of fact” agreed before the hearing. The decision led to a mistrial, ending Watada’s court martial. The Army appealed, but a judge said Watada could not be tried again on the same charges, as it would violate his right to be free of double jeopardy.

The Justice Department is dropping its appeal of that judge’s decision.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Nuremberg tribunals established the principle that all military people are responsible for their actions. They may not excuse war crimes by claiming they were only following orders. It is in the uniform code of military justice that all soldiers have a moral right and an obligation to refuse orders they honestly feel are illegal and immoral. (By extension, that right should apply to all US citizens as well)

Ehren Watada understood that the war in Iraq was illegal and immoral, being based on lies, and he refused to be in a position where he would be required to order his own men into what he knew to be an illegal war.

Be wary of hosting US torture camps

The US government’s handouts should not be taken lightly considering recent revelations that the US is expanding its secret detention centres for terror suspects to Mauritania, Ethiopia, some countries in North Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, Obama is not only not going to prosecute for torture, he is in fact planning to expand and continue the practices.

"We the undersigned students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other concerned members of the Stanford community, believe that high officials of the U.S. Government, including our former Provost, current Political Science Professor, and Hoover Institution Senior Fellow, Condoleezza Rice, should be held accountable for any serious violations of the Law (included ratified treaties, statutes, and/or the U.S. Constitution) through investigation and, if the facts warrant, prosecution, by appropriate legal authorities."

Democratizing the US Monetary System: Urgency of the American Monetary Act

On Thursday, April 23, 2009, Stephen Zarlenga, director of the American Monetary Institute (AMI), delivered two briefings on Capitol Hill on the American Monetary Act that AMI drafted and that may be introduced as legislation during the current congressional session. This single measure has the potential of bringing together the tens of millions of people who have realized it’s our bank-run debt-based monetary system that lies at the center of the financial rot that is destroying our republic and its values.

Looking Back on the Greatest Depression

On average, world trade fell 31 percent in January 2009. To varying degrees, recession and depression gripped globally.

“The outlook for global consumption remains bleak. Exports are likely to remain lackluster until global consumers regain their appetite for consumption,” wrote Jing Ulrich, managing director at JPMorgan in Hong Kong, in response to the dire data.

To track and make practical use of trends requires critical analysis of not only the data but also of the interpretations arising from the data. This becomes particularly essential when interpretations express a virtual media consensus. “Whenever you find that you are on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect,” advised Mark Twain.

Group names 25 lenders responsible for economic meltdown

US and foreign banks were not unwitting victims of circumstance but deliberately culpable in the financial meltdown that engulfed the United States last year, a campaign group said Wednesday.

The Center for Public Integrity named 25 “subprime” mortgage companies whose risky lending was blamed for the US property market collapse and the subsequent global economic crisis.

Many of the lenders were either controlled by US and European banks, or could not have indulged in their high-risk lending spree without the connivance of banks, the investigative journalism group said in a new study.

Shadow of the Taliban

dawn.com While the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and its supporters constitute a direct challenge to the authority and resources commanded by the state, it is equally worrying that the extremist right-wing ideology they represent and the tactics they employ are casting a shadow that looms far beyond their strongholds. Large sections of the citizenry living far from the actual theatre of war are being threatened in this manner. This is dangerous for the former threat, it can be hoped, may be countered through superior weaponry and sufficient political will; but the latter threat, being nebulous and diffuse, is almost impossible to control.

GOP Pollster: Our National Security Attacks On Obama Make Us Look “Irrelevant”

A high-profile and well-respected GOP pollster is strongly criticizing the new effort by the GOP Congressional leadership to revive the party’s national security attacks on Obama, saying the strategy risks making the party look “out of touch and irrelevant.”

“What are we, in a time machine?” the pollster, Tony Fabrizio, asked scornfully in an interview with me moments ago. “We just got clobbered in two successive elections and lost majorities in both Houses, and the leadership appears to keep on playing the same cards.”

Afghans to Obama: Get Out, Take Karzai With You

The title of his lecture shows a certain cheek. Karzai’s seven years in power since the overthrow of the Taliban in 2001 have been notable for his failure to prevent their resurgence. Suppose the president’s motorcade this week had taken a different route and headed, not for the airport, but for the southern outskirts of Kabul, he would soon have experienced the limits of his government’s authority. It ends at a beleaguered police post within a few minutes’ drive of the capital. Drivers heading for the southern provincial capitals of Ghazni, Qalat and Kandahar nervously check their pockets to make sure that they are carrying no documents linking them to the government.

House bypasses governor’s veto to claim Oklahoma’s sovereignty

Although Gov. Brad Henry vetoed similar legislation 10 days earlier, House members Monday again approved a resolution claiming Oklahoma’s sovereignty.

Unlike House Joint Resolution 1003, House Concurrent Resolution 1028 does not need the governor’s approval.

The House passed the measure 73-22. It now goes to the Senate.

"We’re going to get it done one way or the other,” said the resolutions’ author, Rep. Charles Key, R-Oklahoma City.

"I think our governor is out of step.”

One tonne 'Baby' marks its birth

Sixty years ago the "modern computer" was born in a lab in Manchester.

The Small Scale Experimental Machine, or "Baby", was the first to contain memory which could store a program.

The room-sized computer's ability to carry out different tasks - without having to be rebuilt - has led some to describe it as the "first modern PC".

Using just 128 bytes of memory, it successfully ran its first set of instructions - to determine the highest factor of a number - on 21 June 1948.

In the interview, the Brazilian-born UN director also suggested the world's richest countries could make huge inroads to tackling climate change by adding $5 (£3.30) to the cost of a barrel of oil - which he estimates would raise over $100bn (£66.5bn) to invest in new technology.

Flashback: Officials scoff at East Bay pedophile ring cover-up

By Justin Scheck
If only Kathryn Dixon had been a cobbler.
That would have saved years of trouble for a handful of Bay Area public officials, several criminal defendants and a 9th Circuit panel . . . The problem they all ran into is that Dixon . . .was, in the words of Senior 9th Circuit Judge John Noonan, . . . a fully licensed lawyer with her head full of fantasies."
Dixon's most notoriously fantastic assertion came in a federal suit she filed in the mid-1990s alleging that some of the region's best-known lawyers, including Alameda County District Attorney Tom Orloff, former U.S. District Court Judge Barbara Caulfield and then-U.S. Attorney Michael Yamaguchi, were covering up an East Bay pedophile ring.

Sandra Cantu's autopsy report will be sealed to avoid 'public outrage'

The judge in the Sandra Cantu murder case agreed to seal her autopsy report Friday, saying if the results were released, there would be "public outrage."
"We haven't seen anything like this in San Joaquin County," Superior Court Judge Linda L. Loftus said. "A lot of courts have never seen this kind of case."
Both prosecution and defense attorneys were in favor of sealing the report.
"In the interest of a fair trial, for both sides in this case, that is the only option," Loftus said. "There would be overriding prejudice if the record is unsealed."

Regrettable statistical error

According to the statistics provided by the Bureau, 75.5% of Israel’s residents at this time are Jewish, while only 24.5% of the country’s residents are not Jewish.

However, it appears that these figures were tainted by a regrettable error. The source of the error has to do with the strange existence of what is known around here as the Green line. Yes, that same Green Line , which has seemingly passed away a long time ago, has reemerged from its grave yet again (and perhaps it was even pulled out of the grave by force) – this tends to happen every time the country’s statistical or public relations needs require it.

Real figures paint different picture: A total of 49% Jews and 51% non-Jews currently live across the territory of the Israeli empire.
