German and French banks got $36 billion from AIG Bailout

the majority of the funds—$58 billion—went to banks headquartered outside the U.S. The big winners were French and German banks, which pulled in $19 billion and $17 billion respectively.

To put these numbers in perspective, remember that the U.S. fiscal stimulus bill passed in February provided only $27.5 billion for highway and bridge construction.

DC attorney general decries gun amendment

WASHINGTON — The nation's capital would be more vulnerable to a terrorist attack if the District of Columbia's gun laws were weakened, the city's attorney general said Friday.
Peter Nickles testified before a House subcommittee examining the potential effect of a gun amendment attached to legislation that would give D.C. its first full vote in Congress.

The measure sponsored by Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., would repeal the city's strict gun registration requirements and restrictions on semiautomatic weapons.

Moderate Taliban leader warns Barack Obama's plan will make Afghanistan worse

Nato's planned troop surge to Afghanistan will lead to an escalation in fighting and jeopardise secretive peace moves, a senior Taliban moderate has warned.

n an exclusive interview with The Sunday Telegraph, Mullah Abdul Salem Zaeef said the surge of mainly American troop reinforcements would only deepen the country's problems and was likely to act as a magnet to foreign fighters. His comments appeared to dent hopes that President Barack Obama's strategy could produce rapid progress towards peace in Afghanistan.

Obama Wants to Control the Banks

I must be naive. I really thought the administration would welcome the return of bank bailout money. Some $340 million in TARP cash flowed back this week from four small banks in Louisiana, New York, Indiana and California. This isn't much when we routinely talk in trillions, but clearly that money has not been wasted or otherwise sunk down Wall Street's black hole. So why no cheering as the cash comes back?

My answer: The government wants to control the banks, just as it now controls GM and Chrysler, and will surely control the health industry in the not-too-distant future. Keeping them TARP-stuffed is the key to control. And for this intensely political president, mere influence is not enough. The White House wants to tell 'em what to do. Control. Direct. Command.

Shell in court over alleged role in Nigeria executions

Lawyers in New York will allege that Shell actively subsidised a campaign of terror by security forces in the Niger Delta and attempted to influence the trial that led to Saro-Wiwa's execution. The lawsuit alleges that the company attempted to bribe two witnesses in his trial to testify against him. Members of Saro-Wiwa's family will take the stand for the first time to give their version of events, among them his brother Owens, who will allege that Brian Anderson, managing director of Shell's Nigerian subsidiary, told him: "It would not be impossible to get charges dropped if protests were called off." Anderson is fighting the action.

A newspaper seller who died of a heart attack during the G20 protests was 'violently attacked' by riot police, eye witnesses claim.

Ian Tomlinson, 47, was hit 'near the head' with a police baton and shoved to the ground by charging riot officers, according to statements received by the police watchdog.

Another witness claims he was bitten on the arm by a police dog.

The Independent Police Complains Commission is examining a series of accounts that allege Mr Tomlinson was a victim of police violence.

Death at a Demonstration

There was a fascinating and drawn out scene outside the Bank of England yesterday when a distinct group of some thirty were attacking the police, one hitting the police with a long pole. Prominent was a group of young Asian lads.

I recognised them because I was crushed up hard for a good while against the same bunch of young Asians outside the Israeli Embassy a couple of months ago, where again they were being inexcusably violent.

The very strange thing was that, plainly from Sky's overhead cam, the Police had the ability to isolate and snatch this group of obviously violent individuals, and the police would have had my support in doing so. But they didn't.

So who are they?

Saint Stan Brock

Dr Joseph Gambacorta is a dentist who has driven 300 miles from Buffalo, New York, with his 13-year-old son, Patrick. He has been pulling teeth nonstop for four hours. “The American system is not working,” he says. “There are a lot of people who are working middle class and can’t afford the co-pay or the deductible.”

To understand what he’s referring to, it’s important to grasp some basic facts about American health care. In 2008, there were approximately 48m Americans with no health insurance whatsoever and 25m-30m more who were under-insured, according to the National Coalition on Health Care in Washington, DC.

Barbaric Israel

Despite the best efforts of the American corporate media, the Israeli lobby, and compromised politicians, the true nature of Israel’s barbarity towards the Palestinian people is not easily hidden. The massacres of Gaza’s civilian population that were recently carried out by the Israeli Defense Force created a turning point in worldwide public opinion. Only the Israeli and American governments try to deny that war crimes were committed.

Now members of the IDF themselves are coming forward to admit that they committed war crimes. Soldiers have told the Israeli newspaper Haaretz that they were ordered to murder civilians without provocation. Haaretz has also revealed that the IDF prepares soldiers to kill civilians by openly condoning the killing of pregnant women and little children.

But if you read the key article 37 of the European Arrest Warrant Act (below) from the Irish Statute Book you can clearly see what it really says. It talks about the warrant being invalid at the issuing point, it does not talk about being treated unfairly if extradited to the issuing state (UK).

Spanish law allows the prosecution of foreigners for such crimes as genocide, crimes against humanity and torture committed anywhere in the world if the suspects will not be tried in their home country.

United Nations Security Council Resolution 1559 was created because of an Israeli false flag. It called on Syrian troops to be removed from Lebanon after a vicious car bombing which killed the former prime minister of Lebanon Rafik al-Hariri. This was blamed on Syria, later because of a lack of evidence the blame was shifted to a Palestinian however UN investigations cleared the suspect of being capable of the attack and later it was discovered that Israeli agents were responsible for the attacks. The result was a call by the UN to remove Syria's troops from Lebanon something Israel desperately wanted. Bush even goofed up admitting this accidentally while having lunch with Tony Blair and speaking into a mic he didn't know was still on.

No Combat Troops, But Obama Lauds ‘Strong’ NATO Support for War

President Barack Obama’s attempt to secure firm commitments of significant additional troops from NATO allies to help in the planned escalation in Afghanistan was, by any objective measure, an abject failure. He got no combat troops, and only the most temporary commitments to send police and training personnel to help with the elections. Don’t tell that to the president, however.

Today, he lauded the very guarded commitments as “strong and unanimous support,” and praised NATO members for making a “strong down payment” in Afghanistan. The Obama Administration has pledged tens of thousands of additional troops for Afghanistan, in addition to massive increases in civilian aid.

Webmaster's Commentary:

He had to be completely naive to believe that he was going to get support from other NATO members in terms of sending more troops.

Obama resumes Iran threat rhetoric

President Barack Obama vows not to shelve the controversial US missile plans until an "Iranian missile threat" is eliminated.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What threat, Mr. Obama?

Iran has not attacked or invaded another country in 200 years.

The United States can hardly make that same claim. WE are constantly attacking and invading other countries, usually on the basis of lies and fabrications, as we saw in Iraq. and for all the effort to transform Iran's nuclear power station into a cause for alarm, one and only one nation has actually used nuclear weapons of mass destruction against the civilians or another country and that nation is the United States.

Nor can Israel claim to be innocent. Israel has attacked its neighbors repeatedly, most recently on the day you were elected when Israel broke the cease fire with Gaza and initiated operation Cast Lead.

We the people of the world know what you are doing, Mr. Obama. The United States has committed war crimes. It has lied to start wars. You flopped at the G20 and the dollar is in decline. NATO told you to clean up the mess in Afghanistan yourself. The United States is an empire in decline. and you hope (in vain) that if you can maintain the illusion of enemies all around that the American people will continue to support you out of blind fear.

Stiglitz: Bank Plan Makes Taxpayers Suckers

“The Obama administration’s $500 billion or more proposal to deal with America’s ailing banks has been described by some in the financial markets as a win-win-win proposal,” Stiglitz writes in The New York Times.

“Actually, it is a win-win-lose proposal: the banks win, investors win — and taxpayers lose.”

Mexican president: US authorities 'complicit' in drug trafficking

The President of Mexico has an unfortunate message for Americans still ignorant of the Drug War's cold realities: Some of your politicians are involved.

Yes folks, it is long-past time to start thinking about alternative strategies for combating both the harmful effects of drug addiction and the deadly effects of forcing an economy outside of the law.

"It is impossible to pass tons of drugs and cocaine to U.S. without some great complicity of some American authorities," said Mexican President Felipe Calderone.

British celebrities' assets seized under draconian California law

Celebrities including Kate Winslett, Dame Helen Mirren, Clive Owen, Sir Michael Caine and the Irish actor Colin Farrell have all fallen victim to legislation that allows California's state government to take possession of bank accounts, stocks and the contents of security deposit boxes if they are dormant for longer than three years.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Penny wise and pound foolish!

This is a PR disaster! Politics is perception and this makes California look like they are so desperate for a few more dollars that they will screw over the entertainment industry's biggest stars.

Hollywood is already on the wane as the film capital of the world; this open looting will just accelerate the shift to another country.

Economist: US collapse driven by 'fraud,' Geithner covering up bank insolvency

In an explosive interview on PBS' Bill Moyers Journal, William K. Man-Made Climate Change Deniers Have a Mental Illness

The idea that ‘climate change denial’ is a psychological disorder – the product of a spiteful, wilful or simply in-built neural inability to face up to the catastrophe of global warming – is becoming more and more popular amongst green-leaning activists and academics. And nothing better sums up the elitism and authoritarianism of the environmentalist lobby than its psychologisation of dissent. The labelling of any criticism of the politics of global warming, first as ‘denial’, and now as evidence of mass psychological instability, is an attempt to write off all critics and sceptics as deranged, and to lay the ground for inevitable authoritarian solutions to the problem of climate change.

US to fight 'anti-Israeli crap' at UN

The US envoy to the United Nations says that Washington has a duty to fight the growing anti-Israeli sentiments in the world.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Would someone explain to me why it is a "duty" for the US Government to protect Israel from criticism, especially criticism that is well and truly deserved?

"Duty" implies an obligation? What obligates the United States to wipe Israel's butt all the time, or to pay for the weapons with which it has earned its dark reputation?

I am sorry Ms. Rice, but the first duty of the United States Government is to take care of the people of the United States. The second duty of the United States Government is to take care of the people of the United States. The third duty of the United States Government is to take care of the people of the United States.

Israel has created its own problems. I suggest that we allow Israel to deal with them.

Jewish terrorist group (JDL) demanded Canadian gov't ban Galloway.

An organization that planned to blow up Concordia University, and that the FBI, the U.S. State Department, and U.S. courts have branded a 'terrorist organization', has given advice to the Harper government that led Immigration Minister Jason Kenney to barring a British MP from Canada.

A Kenney spokesman said Kenney first heard about British MP George Galloway's visit from a Jewish Defense League (JDL) March 16 letter.

The Jewish Defense League, is categorized by the FBI as a "right-wing Jewish terrorist group", founded in 1968 by ultra Zionist Meir Kahane. Kanahe then founded the terrorist group Khach in Israel. JDL leader Meir Weinstein (no relation to the author) boasts of getting the Canadian government to ban Galloway.

Thousands flee bomb attacks by US drones

AMERICAN drone attacks on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan are causing a massive humanitarian emergency, Pakistani officials claimed after a new attack yesterday killed 13 people.

The dead and injured included foreign militants, but women and children were also killed when two missiles hit a house in the village of Data Khel, near the Afghan border, according to local officials.

As many as 1m people have fled their homes in the Tribal Areas to escape attacks by the unmanned spy planes as well as bombings by the Pakistani army. In Bajaur agency entire villages have been flattened by Pakistani troops under growing American pressure to act against Al-Qaeda militants, who have made the area their base.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Neither the Pakistanis nor the Afghans hate us "because we are free"; they hate us because we are killing and maiming their kids, their wives, their friends and families, and their grandparents.... indiscriminately.

One has to wonder if the ramp up in the creation of more instability in the region is by design, rather than by accident, to accomplish other geopolitical agendas.

Texans delay 'Agent Orange' spraying on border

Did you know that American authorities want to spray a toxic herbicide over 1.1 million acres of land on the US-Mexico border?

The residents here dodged a bullet when the U.S. Border Patrol delayed the spraying of a toxic herbicide along the Rio Grande.

The herbicide, the U.S. agency said, is meant to eradicate a wild plant that supposedly protects illegal entities from detection on the riverbanks.

However, U.S. citizens living near the 1.1 mile spray area took a legal stand to halt the $2.1 million pilot program before it began last week because they haven’t been educated on the effects of the poison, they said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

CBP Spokesperson Prichard what the hell are your people thinking?!?!?

The documentation is there and the incontrovertible scientific evidence is in: this product causes birth defects, miscarriages, and cancers. Is this how expendable the people in Texas are you are supposed to be protecting?!?!?

Please don't tell me there isn't another way to handle this invasive cane. This may be the cheapest in terms of dollars per pound of chemical, plus the spraying; but it is also the most deadliest in terms of the effects on humans. Someone in the CBP's Laredo office has to know this.

As reported in http://www.gsmp.org/agentorange/history.html

" Dioxin is the most toxic and most durable chemical mankind has developed so far. Its half-life is very long. The scientific community has agreed that dioxin causes cancers, terrible deformities, birth defects and many other ailments.
In 1966, 29 American scientists protested the use of the AO/dioxin herbicide by the U.S. in Vietnam because AO couldn't distinguish enemy solders from innocent people. They called for the U.S. Army to study the short- and long-term effects of the chemicals used in Vietnam . Over 5,000 American scientists asked President Johnson to stop using herbicides in Vietnam . Nevertheless, the chemicals continued to be used there.
At the beginning of the 1970s, the Herbicide Assessment Commission (HAC) - a scientific body - sent a group of experts to Vietnam to investigate the effects of the herbicides, especially AO/dioxin, on the environment and humans. After the trip, they asked the U.S. government to stop the use of the herbicides in Vietnam because these chemicals destroyed mangrove forests and caused miscarriages and birth defects. The culprit was the dioxin contained in AO. This conclusion conformed to the results of experiments on animals. It means that the U.S. was quite aware of the negative effects of the herbicides, AO in particular, on the environment and humans."

-- CBS newsman Bob Schieffer referred to it while interviewing President Obama.

The Smooth Criminal Transition from Bush/Cheney to Obama

To sober, clear-eyed observers of history and political deception, the ascension of Barack Obama held the promise for unprecedented new dangers: a revitalized New World Order, led by the Anglo-American empire’s neoliberal criminal faction and an iconic, deceptive new facilitator; and a continuation of Bush/Cheney criminality and war, under smarter and much more effective management.

Now, just months into their tenure, the Barack Obama administration has more than fulfilled the promises he made to his elite constituency, deepening the mass destruction of Bush/Cheney, while charming its victims all over the world into enjoying their own demise.

Toxic Asset Plan Will Leave The Same Amount Of Toxic Assets In The System, But With the Taxpayers Now Liable For Most Of The Losses

The government is guaranteeing 85% of the value of the toxic assets.

US Envoy Writes of Israeli Threats

In the wake of the accusation by Chas Freeman that his nomination to lead the National Intelligence Council was derailed by an "Israeli lobby," a forthcoming memoir by another distinguished ambassador adds stunning new charges to the debate. The ambassador, John Gunther Dean, writes that over the years he not only came under pressure from pro-Israeli groups and officials in Washington but also was the target of an Israeli-inspired assassination attempt in 1980 in Lebanon, where he had opened links to the Palestine Liberation Organization.

U.N. official pleads for opening of Gaza borders

The top U.N. aid official in the Gaza Strip urged Israel Friday to ease restrictions on the flow of goods into the conflict-torn territory, saying they were "devastating" for the people.

"It's wholly and totally inadequate," John Ging, head of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency in Gaza, said about the amount of goods Israel permits into the territory, where some 1.5 million Palestinians live.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to John Ging: you are wasting your breath.

The only thing (which will happen when pigs fly) that will stop Israel from continuing this siege is for a universal, global stop to any aid, military or monetary.

Let us hope that the increasing alternative media focus on what Israel has done - and continues to do - in Gaza will open at least some eyes on what is happening her.

All Unclear Over Israeli Policy

How genuine is Israel’s new leadership about peace when the Prime Minister says that he will go a long way towards striving for a settlement with the Palestinians, but purposefully omits to endorse an independent Palestinian state; and, when his foreign minister warns, "If you want peace, prepare for war," a blunt statement on which the prime minister stays studiously silent?

Webmaster's Commentary:

Where I a betting person, I would almost be willing to bet that there will be no real push for peace or for a Palestinian state under Netanyahu's watch.

What there will be will be further escalation of attacks in Gaza, and massive ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in Jerusalem... and, oh, perhaps an attack against Iran on top of this.

And to Fatah and Hamas; unless the leadership of your organizations find a way to let egos go, and create a unified political front with which to confront the Israeli political structure, there will be no Palestinian state.

Rocket Fuel Chemical Found in Baby Formula

When a parent puts a bottle of baby formula to a child's lips, the parent might not know exactly what ingredients are in that thick, nutritionally packed mix. But rocket fuel? That's not an ingredient many expect to find.

The two brands with the highest levels -- more than double that of the other milk-based products -- command 87 percent of the market share for infant formula.

The report does not specify the brand names of any formula tested.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is no safe level of perchlorate, and that's the problem.

And of course, for the CDC, in choosing not to name and shame the companies involved in this practice, corporate profits appear to trump your baby's health, every time.

And as reported at:

This isn't the first time there have been problems with infant formula. Remember the melamine contamination of infant formula, discovered by AP last year?

And in an article covering this, the following statement was made:
"The three firms -- Abbott Laboratories, Nestle and Mead Johnson -- manufacture more than 90 percent of all infant formula produced in the United States."

If you are an infant's mom or dad, and have been using these products, or have friends or families who are, you might want to consider stopping the use of these products, and see what organic alternatives you might want to start feeding your baby.

Will the cost be higher?? Absolutely. But your baby's good health and development have to be worth it.
