Recession Causing a Banking Awakening in Tough-Hit Midwest

Will establishing citizen-owned state banks be the first step to ending the private Federal Reserve?

Eric Blair
Activist Post

A mass banking awakening seems to be happening throughout America, and the first pragmatic solution appears to be citizen-owned state banks. Since this model has been proven highly successful in North Dakota, many recession-ravaged states are now considering the idea of establishing state-run banks.

Congressman Ron Paul, author of End The Fed, has been trying to educate the public about the private Federal Reserve Bank system for his whole career. And indeed, many terrific books like The Creature from Jekyll Island, and movies like The Money Masters, also have exposed the flaws in allowing private globalist bankers to print the nation's currency.

Jeffrey Rudolph – Informed Comment

Can You Pass the Terrorism Quiz?

Misconceptions about terrorism, regularly promoted by the mainstream media, have facilitated harmful US government actions—two wars, domestic legislation that curtailed civil liberties, excessive national security spending. That basic, factual information about terrorism is so rarely reported thus serves to reinforce the power of those who benefit from a fearful population.

ICLEI: Invasive UN Treaty in 600 American Cities

There are over 600 US cities that are members of ICLEI, the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives, now known as Local Governments for Sustainability. ICLEI institutes the UN Convention on Biological Diversity treaty that was withdrawn from a vote on the Senate floor in 1994, so the treaty, designed for UN control, is being implemented in cities.

Here's the description of the program from ICLEI's own website:
International Goals
Our programs, and projects promote participatory, long-term, strategic planning process that address local sustainability while protecting global common goods. This approach links local action to internationally agreed-upon goals and targets such as:

USF Geologists Find Beaches Teeming With Tiny Tar Balls

As researchers from USF’s Coastal Research Laboratory examined miles of beaches of north Florida and Alabama last month, they discovered beaches hit by oil from the Deepwater Horizon spill and then “cleaned” by BP crews were anything but clean.

The sand, on the surface, looked better after crews had passed and was somewhat whiter, the scientists noted. But when University of South Florida beach geologist Ping Wang and researchers from his lab looked closer into the once pristine white quartz sands, they found that after beach-cleaning machines had combed the area, the beach was covered with thousands of tiny tar balls.

Market Data Firm Spots the Tracks of Bizarre Robot Traders

The trading bots visualized in the stock charts in this story aren't doing anything that could be construed to help the market. Unknown entities for unknown reasons are sending thousands of orders a second through the electronic stock exchanges with no intent to actually trade. Often, the buy or sell prices that they are offering are so far from the market price that there's no way they'd ever be part of a trade. The bots sketch out odd patterns with their orders, leaving patterns in the data that are largely invisible to market participants.

Chavez rejects US ambassador-designate to Venezuela

President Hugo Chavez on Sunday rejected Larry Palmer as the US ambassador-designate to Venezuela, and urged US President Barack Obama to "look for another candidate."

Palmer recently voiced concern about Cuba's growing influence in the Venezuelan military, which, he said was "considerably low" in morale and professionalism.

In written answers to a US lawmaker's questions -- his nomination as ambassador must be confirmed by the Senate -- Palmer also said there were "clear ties" between leftist Colombian guerrillas and Chavez's government.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If Palmer is confirmed, but Venezuela refuses to accept his credentials, what we have here is void where there is no American ambassador to Venezuela.

South Africa media fear new rules on reporting

Proposed media regulations in South Africa have raised fears that the government is trying to control news coverage, drawing comparisons to apartheid-era censorship.

The ruling African National Congress is mulling a Media Appeals Tribunal, while parliament is considering the Protection of Information Bill, which media organizations say would hamper investigative reporting.

Webmaster's Commentary:

When situations are starting to get really bad in any country, the first thing that happens is the curbing of the press (both print and electronic, where possible), so that the information doesn't get out.

An August Surprise from Obama?

Main Street may be about to get its own gigantic bailout. Rumors are running wild from Washington to Wall Street that the Obama administration is about to order government-controlled lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to forgive a portion of the mortgage debt of millions of Americans who owe more than what their homes are worth. An estimated 15 million U.S. mortgages – one in five – are underwater with negative equity of some $800 billion. Recall that on Christmas Eve 2009, the Treasury Department waived a $400 billion limit on financial assistance to Fannie and Freddie, pledging unlimited help. The actual vehicle for the bailout could be the Bush-era Home Affordable Refinance Program, or HARP, a sister program to Obama’s loan modification effort.

Obama’s CIA Pedigree

Obama’s CIA Pedigree

WMR [Wayne Madsen Report] previously reported on President Obama’s more than one year employment by a CIA front operation, Business International Corporation, Inc. (BIC) of New York after his graduation from Columbia University in 1983.However, the State Department’s recent revelation in response to a Freedom of Information Act request that the pre-1965 passport files of Obama’s mother, Ann Dunham Soetoro, were destroyed in the 1980s, has re-ignited suspicions that Obama’s mother worked for the CIA under non-official cover (NOC) cover in Indonesia while married to Lolo Soetoro Mangunharjo,

Why is the state involved in marriage at all?

Now that a judge has issued an incoherent ruling that the federal government has a 14th Amendment interest in the definition of marriage after more than 140 years of apparent disinterest, it may be time to reconsider government involvement in marriage entirely. Townhall’s David Harsanyi offers the argument that government involvement may do more harm than good to the institution, and results from a historical mistake in the first place.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Marriage is a religious ritual, and by passing any laws constraining what marriage may or may not be, the US violates the First Amendment prohibition against respecting any one institution of religion over another.

When Claire and I were about to get married, we wanted the actual service to be done by a friend who was a Native American shaman, only to be told that the US Government would not recognize the marriage legally unless it were performed by a civil officer, a Christian minister, or a Rabbi. Even ship's captains are no longer allowed to perform marriages (although our friend who is a captain was also a minister and thus able to marry us at sea.)

I seriously thought about suing the government over the issue that limiting marriage in any way is a violation of the first amendment, and I think maybe now is the time to revive it.

We do not need laws to legalize gay marriage, because under the First Amendment it cannot be made illegal, else the government is respecting one particular religion over the others.

Virus Attacks Siemens Plant-Control Systems

Computer hackers have designed a virus that targets industrial control systems built by German engineering giant Siemens AG, activating a kind of malicious software that analysts say represents a growing corporate-espionage threat.

The virus, dubbed Stuxnet, is spread by devices plugged into USB computer ports. It is programmed to try to steal data from computer systems that are used to monitor large automated plants built for anything from manufacturing to power generation to water treatment. Siemens is one of the world's largest makers of such industrial automated systems, though it doesn't break out its annual revenue from such sales.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As this article confirms, plant control systems are not tied into the public internet. The virus has to be inserted using a USB device.

So why would hackers, who are into money, porn, identity theft, and cramming Viagra ads into your mailbox going to waste their time on a virus for a refrigerator factory assembly line control system?

Folks, this is a hoax. The government needs to find a way to control the internet because they are in a panic that the world sees them for what they really are. So they are going to have "Terrorists" at you (as if terrorists could destroy this nation any more badly that Federal fiscal policy already has) to trick you into accepting more locks and controls on your computer and internet. For your own good, of course.

But stop and think about it. There is no financial reason for hackers to waste their time with factory computers (which are actually rather boring). Real enemies of the United States are not going to waste their time on refrigerator factory assembly line control systems. They would go after military systems which are already secure. Or they would go after the NCA comm systems (again, already secure) or even the IRS computers.

This claim that factory computers are under threat is just more bovine excrement to limit freedom of speech and justify handing several million dollars to some congresscritters donor who is in computer security.

Obama Pushed/Bankrolled/Implements Sharia Law in New Constitution in Kenya, Non-Muslim Country
In the book I have a chapter on Obama and Odinga. In an August 2006 campaign stop, Illinois Senator Barack Obama thundered against corruption: “My own city of Chicago, Ill., has been the home of some of the most corrupt local politics in American history over the years, from patronage machines to questionable elections.”
But he wasn’t speaking in Chicago. Barack Obama was in Kenya. “Here in Kenya, there is a crisis,” Obama said, “a crisis that’s robbing an honest people of the opportunities they fought for.” .... Alfred Mutua, a spokesman for the Kibaki government, accused Odinga of “using Senator Obama as his stooge, as his puppet.”

Is NoMoreCensorship.com anti-Semitic?

Aside from learning how to be a good soldier, I learned something about people. This man, and the other men around me taught me that I had been wrong. That blacks, Mexicans, Yankees, and even Jewish people were just that, people, other human beings. They are not responsible for the wrongs of an entire group or nation.

But, in today’s society, if you disagree about what a group or nation does, there is a name for it. Racist, anti-Semitic, etc. Everyone has to have a label, something to distinguish them from other opponents.

Dismissing criticism of Israel as anti-Semitic is like dismissing criticism of the Nazis as anti-Germanic. “Hitler didn’t do anything wrong; you just HATE THE GERMAN PEOPLE!”

Who repealed the Glass-Steagall Act?

The Glass Steagall Act President Roosevelt signed into law was repealed. See who swept aside the banking firewall protections on the 12th of November 1999.

The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), also known as the Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999, is an act of the 106th United States Congress (1999-2001), signed into law by President Clinton which repealed part of the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933, opening up the market among banking companies, securities companies and insurance companies. The Glass-Steagall Act prohibited any one institution from acting as any combination of an investment bank, a commercial bank, and/or an insurance company.

The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act allowed commercial banks, investment banks, securities firms and insurance companies to consolidate.

The real question regarding Glass-Steagall Act is: "Would our current financial collapse and global economic depression occurred, had this Banking Safeguard not been repealed." The answer to this is, not likely, although vast areas of American economic growth was undermined with the establishment of free trade agreements, tax incentive outsourcing tax laws, Federal Reserve Bank bubble pumping action of lower interest rates, and an era of look the other way deregulation. -- kdtroxel

Vanunu upon release from jail: Let me leave this country

Israeli nuclear whistle-blower Mordechai Vanunu was freed from jail on Sunday after serving 11 weeks behind bars for breaking the terms of his release and meeting a foreigner, a prison official said.

The court rejected his request and ordered him to serve three months behind bars.

Vanunu was originally jailed in 1986 and spent more than 10 of his 18 years in prison in solitary confinement.

Media gag in occupied Kashmir

In Occupied Kashmir, working on a two-pronged strategy, India has been trying to suppress the freedom movement by unleashing death and destruction and at the same time making every effort to hide the truth from the world.

For the latter, it has been muzzling the right to expression and freedom of the press by subjecting the media to stringent curbs. Presently, there is a new surge in the uprising and the Kashmiri people are coming to the streets, thousands in number, to demand their right to self determination. Forceful demonstrations all across the occupied territory have become a routine. The occupation authorities are responding by resorting to brute force, randomly killing the innocent people.

The people of Kashmir deserve far better treatment than this.

If these reports are true, India is behaving just as brutally to the Kashmiris as the British did to Indians before they left India.

1,200 National Guard Troops Being Deployed to Border Will Not Be Used to Stop and Detain Illegal Aliens

The 1,200 National Guard troops that are being deployed incrementally to the southwest border “will not be doing direct law enforcement,” said U.S. National Guard Bureau Director of Communications Jack Harrison when asked if the forces would be interdicting drugs and undocumented immigrants.

“The two mission sets are criminal analysts and enter-identification team,” Harrison told CNSNews.com. “I can tell you that guardsmen will not be doing direct law enforcement on the southwest border.”

In other words, the National Guardsmen will not be used to actually stop and detain illegal aliens trying to sneak across the border into the United States.

If these National Guards troops are not being deployed to keep illegal aliens from crossing into the US, one has to wonder what they are really doing there.

In Colombia, GOP Rep. Mack calls on Obama to put Venezuela on terror list

Rep. Connie Mack (R-Fla.), in Bogota on Saturday, called for the Obama administration to designate Venezuela as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Mack was one of eight lawmakers in Colombia for the swearing in of the country's new president, Juan Manuel Santos. He met with departing President Alvaro Uribe and held a press conference in Bogota to detail his efforts to have Colombia's neighbor placed on the terror list.

"I think the time is now to put him on that list," Mack told The Hill by phone from Colombia, saying that President Hugo Chavez supported the FARC rebels in Colombia and was aligned with Iran and Syria.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Please remember; last month, a 7,000 person-strong US military force, with all sorts of ancillary hardware, was dropped off in Costa Rica, allegedly to fight US's "war on drugs."

Putting a country on a state-sponsored terrorism list raises the possibility of a pre-emptive strike against it.

And, as reported on Jan 23, 2010 at

"A new assessment by the U.S. Geological Survey says that Venezuela’s oil reserves could be double those of Saudi Arabia, a finding that could significantly alter the world’s geopolitical stage and crude oil market."

Additionally, the US already has its military on 7 different bases in Columbia, Venezuela's neighbor, which puts the US well within striking distance of almost all of South America.

Kashmir burns again as India responds to dissent with violence

Once again, Kashmir is burning. Buildings and barricades have been set alight and its people are enflamed. The largest towns are packed with heavily-armed police and the hospital wards are full of young men with gunshot wounds. Around 50 people have been killed since June, more than 31 in the last week alone, and dozens more have been wounded. The dead include young men, teenagers and even a nine-year-old boy, reportedly beaten to death by the security forces after he tried to walk to the local shop.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to India President Patil; with all the blood and violence your security forces have wreaked on Kashmiris, you have the makings of a revolution on your hands.

Further military crackdowns will only worsen the situation.

You have a painful, but historic, opportunity confronting you and your colleagues in the Indian government.
That painful/historic opportunity has a name: it is called a referendum for the people of Kashmir, allowing them to determine their own destiny.

This will take great courage on the part of the Indian leadership, but will do much to ratchet down tensions between India, and its nuclear-armed neighbor, Pakistan.

If your government is unable and unwilling to do this, you can count on decades more bloodshed in the region. It is difficult to believe that this is the outcome the Indian - and Kashmiri - people want to see happen.

Another Nuremberg in the Making: Intelligence Agencies Employ Physicians to Torture Detainees

Americans seem largely unaware that their country, founded upon principles of due process and individual rights, now appears to have been overthrown by this Gestapo-like faction of government that uses trained physicians to carry out torture in the supposed defense of its nation. Bolivia: U.S. Plotting Latin American Military Intervention

Bolivian President Evo Morales launched a new round of denunciations against the United States this week while also announcing he would offer military training to civilians in his country.

Morales accused the U.S. government of linking illegal drug trafficking with terrorism in its public statements as a prelude to military intervention in Latin America.

He was referring to a State Department investigation of possible links between Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and al Qaeda.

Morales said during a press conference that the "central objective" of the United States was to seize control of oil reserves and other natural resources in Latin American countries.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Bolivian President Morales has every possible reason to be nervous.

BP had been "fast tracked" on the drilling in the Gulf, to prepare for any possible closure of the Gulf of Hormuz due to a US/Israeli strike against Iran.

That having wound up in ruins, the US may well want to seize some South American oil reserves before it attacks Iran.

As reported on 14 July 2010 at:

"In a controversial decision that is likely to fan the flames of regional tensions in Latin America, Costa Rica recently granted the US permission to move 7,000 troops and 46 warships (along with their accompanying planes and helicopters) into Costa Rican waters. Officially, the act is considered to be part of the “Drug War,” which appears to be increasingly more war-like in nature due to such actions and mounting violence in Mexico and Colombia. Costa Rica’s neighbors, however, see the massive military presence as a potential base for regional strikes."

Folks, what we have here cannot possibly be characterized as a deployment that really has anything to do with the (alleged) war on drugs; what we have here is a true expeditionary force, able to do a regional strike against a regional leader the US doesn't like (possibly Venezuela's Hugo Chavez).

Theoretically, this commitment of troops and support hardware ends at the end of this year.

Unfortunately, this deployment possibly telegraphs something else; we may well be looking at a US/Israeli attack against Iran before the end of this year.

'There wasn't much blood about': Detective who found weapons expert David Kelly's body raises questions over his death

The police officer who discovered the body of Dr David Kelly has spoken out for the first time – and revealed that there was ‘not much’ blood on or near the Government scientist.

Detective Constable Graham Coe was the first official on the scene after the body of the weapons expert was discovered in woods near his Oxfordshire home seven years ago. He guarded the body alone for 25 minutes.

The retired detective’s comments raise serious questions about whether Lord Hutton adequately investigated the circumstances of the scientist’s death.

And they will inevitably focus attention on Hutton’s finding that Dr Kelly died from blood loss after slitting his left wrist with a blunt pruning knife.

What collapsing empire looks like

Plenty of businesses and governments furloughed workers this year, but Hawaii went further -- it furloughed its schoolchildren. Public schools across the state closed on 17 Fridays during the past school year to save money, giving students the shortest academic year in the nation.

Many transit systems have cut service to make ends meet, but Clayton County, Ga., a suburb of Atlanta, decided to cut all the way, and shut down its entire public bus system. Its last buses ran on March 31, stranding 8,400 daily riders.

Bernie Madoff & The Watchdog That Didn't Bark or Bite

Perhaps the most incredible aspect of the greatest Wall Street swindle ever was that despite repeated warnings from many different sources the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over a period of 16 years refused to conduct a diligent probe into the operations of fraudster securities broker Bernard Madoff. The "watchdog" Federal agency, which didn't bark or bite, not only disregarded the repeated warnings of knowledgeable whistle-blower Harry Markopolos, a fund manager, as well as the two examiners in its own Boston office who said that Markopolos likely had it right; the SEC also disregarded reports in Barron's and other financial publications that questioned Madoff's legitimacy; and, perhaps most damning of all, the SEC disregarded letters from an obvious insider who revealed that Madoff was keeping two sets of books and told the SEC to find the evidence on a computer Madoff always carried on his person.

All-Women Ship Heads for Gaza and Waits for Clash with IDF

A “women-only” ship, complete with a nun and a heavily pregnant mother, has cleared political and technical obstacles and is set to sail for Gaza, presenting Israel with a new challenge. The ship is supposed to leave Tripoli by Sunday night, its co-coordinator, Hizbullah-backer Samar al-Hajj, told the London Guardian.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Russia accuses U.S. of loose weapons control

Russia accused the United States on Saturday of breaching its obligations over the non proliferation of weapons, a sign of strained relations between the two powers.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said on its web site the United States had been in breach of several arms-related treaties including the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START I) and a treaty on conventional weapons.

"During the START I period, the United States failed to resolve Russia's concerns over how this treaty was being fulfilled," the ministry said, citing a long list of what it called irregularities, including a U.S. failure to provide information on ballistic missiles trials.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The last thing the US needs right now is a further deterioration of relations with Russia.

The US needs to be forthcoming about Russian concerns here, and completely open and honest.

Digital Education vs. the Ruling Elite

Ruling elites as recently as 1600 appealed to God to justify their continuing rule. This was called the divine right of kings: rulership beyond any earthly court of appeal. That began to be undermined in the second half of the seventeenth century. A century later, Enlightenment democratic theory had replaced the divine right of kings. The divine right of Parliament or the divine right of the People replaced it.

This forced a major strategic change on the ruling elite. The ruling elite has to pretend that it does not exist. It formally acknowledged the legitimacy of the People as the final court of appeal. This involved training and screening the judges.

The Love Affair Ends. President Obama's Political Base Eroding

In case you haven't noticed, President Obama is slipping badly in the latest polls; a recent Quinnipiac poll indicates that a GOP candidate would defeat him 39% to 36%. Polls can be misleading at times and subject to error, but this one from a respected source should be quite alarming for the Democratic Party. And it's certainly a very bad sign when some fellow Democrats running for reelection would rather that he did not campaign for them. Wow!

How did he manage to alienate so much of his base in so little time? Here is my best assessment of what has happened. These disillusioned supporters were looking for a real visionary, someone who would stand up for what is right, a president who would go up against the Establishment, including the military, and not back down. They got nothing of the sort.

US agency rules out health threat from oil dispersants

Dispersants used to break up crude leaking from a ruptured Gulf of Mexico oil well are not likely to accumulate in seafood and affect humans, the US Food and Drug Administration said.

In a letter released Friday addressing concerns raised by a US lawmaker, the regulatory body said it was highly unlikely that the chemicals used to break up spilled crude into small particles would enter the food chain.

The "FDA has determined that the chemical dispersant currently used to combat the Deepwater Horizon... have a low potential for bioconcentration in seafood species," the agency said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What I would like to see, on live television, is for Dr. Margaret Hamburg, the head of the FDA, eat freshly caught fish from the Gulf along with her closest family members. Of course, that will happen when pigs fly.

As reported on 5 June 2010 in;

"what most people don’t know is that the active ingredient of the toxic chemical dispersant, which is up to 60% by volume, being sprayed by BP to fight the Gulf oil spill is a neurotoxin pesticide that is acutely toxic to both human and aquatic life, causes cancer, causes damage to internal organs such as the liver and kidneys simply by absorbing it through the skin and may cause reproductive side effects.

In fact the neurotoxin pesticide that is lethal to 50% of life in concentrations as little as 2.6 parts per million has been banned for use in the UK since 1998 because it failed the UK “Rocky shore test” which assures that the dispersant does not cause a “significant deleterious ecological change” – or to put that in layman’s terms it can kill off the entire food chain.

Corexit has also earned the highest EPA warning label for toxicity which means the effects of the toxic chemicals to the eye are corrosive resulting in irreversible destruction of ocular tissue and other tissue with corneal involvement along with an burning that can persist for more than 21 days and effects to human skin are corrosive resulting in tissue destruction into the dermis and/or scarring.

Corexit was widely used after the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill and according to a literature review performed by the group the Alaska Community Action on Toxics was later linked with widespread long lasting health impacts in people including respiratory, nervous system, liver, kidney and blood disorders.

The “Human Health Hazards” are said to be “Chronic” for Corexit EC9527A according to the EPA."

Nuclear Detonation Timeline "1945-1998"

Nuclear Detonation Map and Timeline 1945-1998
by grtv

The 2053 nuclear tests and explosions that took place between 1945 and 1998 are plotted visually and audibly on a world map.

As the video starts out detonations are few and far between. The first three detonations represent the Manhattan Project and the two bombs that ended World War II. After a few representative minutes the USSR and Britain enter the nuclear club and the testing really starts to heat up.

Even though the video does not differentiate between sub-critical "safety" tests and full detonations, you get a good idea of the fever of the nuclear arms race.

Wiesenthal Center opposes NYC mosque, supports museum on Palestinian graveyard

The Simon Wiesenthal Center, a human rights organization devoted to fighting anti-Semitism, has been accused of hypocrisy for joining the ADL in opposing the Ground Zero mosque, while funding the construction of a "Museum of Tolerance" on top of Palestinian grave sites.

Newsweek’s Zacharia Returns ADL Award, Rendering Foxman ‘Speechless’

In the realm of the impossible is the following statement from Abe Foxman upon learning that Fareed Zacharia, noted Newsweek columnist and Muslim-American, would be returning an ADL award and honorarium in protest of the ADL’s position opposing the Cordoba House Muslim Cultural Center near Ground Zero:

“I am not only saddened but stunned and somewhat speechless by your decision to return the ADL Hubert H. Humphrey First Amendment Freedoms Prize, you accepted in 2005,” ADL National Director Abraham Foxman said in a letter to Zakaria. “As someone I greatly respect for engaging in discussion and dialogue with an open mind I would have expected you to reach out to me before coming to judgment.”
