Conn. Libertarians receive $37K settlement in petitioner harassment suit

Scarpati picked the wrong person to intimidate. Reale is not only running a Libertarian campaign for office, he also has a day job as a paralegal. He sued, representing himself.

“No access to the Festival was blocked or impeded nor was any crime or disruption being committed,” Reale said in his complaint. “The entire interaction with the public and those who chose to sign or not sign was happy, pleasant and otherwise the part of an ordinary spring day with all enjoying sunny weather and a public park.”

Reale’s lawsuit alleged that the purpose of their illegal ouster from a public park was “to protect the Democratic and Republican parties from competition on the ballot in the November 2018 general election,” and that “the same two parties were present and exercising their rights … within the Festival itself.”

Putin Lays Down the Law at Valdai

Every year Russian President Vladimir Putin speaks at the Valdai Economic Forum. And each year his talk is important. Putin isn’t one to mince words on important issues.

With tensions between Russia and the West reaching Cold War levels, Valdai represented the first time we’ve heard Putin speak in a long-form discussion since Helsinki and the events thereafter — IL-20, Khashoggi, etc.

So, this talk is worth everyone’s time. And when I say everyone’s I mean every single person who could be affected by the breakdown of the U.S. political system and how that spills over onto Russia’s shores.

In other words, pretty much everyone on the planet.

Because what Putin did at Valdai was to lay down the new rules of conduct in geopolitical affairs. He put the U.S. and European oligarchs I call The Davos Crowd on notice.

US Leaving INF Will Put Nuclear Non-Proliferation at Risk & May Lead to ‘Complete Chaos’

If the US ditches the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), it could collapse the entire nuclear non-proliferation system, and bring nuclear war even closer, Russian officials warn.

By ending the INF, Washington risks creating a domino effect which could endanger other landmark deals like the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) and collapse the existing non-proliferation mechanism as we know it, senior lawmaker Konstantin Kosachev said on Sunday.

The current iteration of the START treaty, which limits the deployment of all types of nuclear weapons, is due to expire in 2021. Kosachev, who chairs the Parliament’s Upper House Foreign Affairs Committee, warned that such an outcome pits mankind against “complete chaos in terms of nuclear weapons.”

Julian Assange should be thanked – not smeared – for Wikileaks’ service to journalism

Twelve years ago this month, WikiLeaks began publishing government secrets that the world public might otherwise never have known. What it has revealed about state duplicity, human rights abuses and corruption goes beyond anything published in the world’s “mainstream” media.

After over six months of being cut off from outside world, on 14 October Ecuador has partly restored Wikileaks founder Julian Assange’s communications with the outside world from its London embassy where the founder has been living for over six years.

The treatment – real and threatened – meted out to Assange by the US and UK governments contrasts sharply with the service Wikileaks has done their publics in revealing the nature of elite power, as shown in the following snapshot of Wikileaks’ revelations about British foreign policy in the Middle East.

NYPD suspends body cameras for cops after device explodes

The New York Police Department has suspended the use of almost 3,000 body cameras after one exploded, leaving some of the city’s police force unrecorded for the foreseeable future. According to studies, not much will change.
An NYPD officer noticed smoke rising from his camera on Saturday, and took it off before it exploded. Nobody was injured in the incident, but the department instructed all officers equipped with Vievu LE-5 body cameras to return them to their precincts.

“Nothing is more important than the safety of our officers, and equipping the NYPD with the best equipment is a paramount priority,” read a statement from the NYPD. The department believes that a battery malfunction caused the device to explode.

The BBC has uncovered new details about one of the men accused of murdering Jamal Khashoggi, a prominent Saudi journalist who was critical of his country’s government.

Turkish media identified Maher Abdulaziz Mutreb as being part of a 15-member team of suspected Saudi agents who flew into and out of Istanbul on the day of Mr Khashoggi’s disappearance from the city’s Saudi consulate on 2 October.

Ocasio-Cortez tosses up more word salad: We’ll use extreme blueprint for defeating Nazis to defeat Climate Change

Socialist congressional nominee Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez believes the United States and its allies should defeat the alleged threat of man-made climate change by utilizing the same extreme methods that were once employed to defeat Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.

“When we talk about existential threats, the last time we had a really major existential threat in this country was around World War II, so we’ve been here before, and we have a blueprint of doing this before,” she said during a campaign event this week.

The rise of Hitler’s regime was an existential threat because he’d sought to conquer the entire world and subjugate it to his bigoted whims. Had he won World War II, the horrors of the Holocaust would have likely been just the tip of the iceberg vis-à-vis the atrocities he would’ve committed.

“We had a direct existential threat with another nation and at this time it was Nazi Germany and Axis, who explicitly made the United States as an enemy,” Ocasio-Cortez continued.

US orchestrated unfair vote in Macedonian parliament on name change - Russian FM

The Russian Foreign Ministry has said that the US orchestrated an “unfair vote” in the Macedonian parliament which approved the country’s name change, despite a failed popular referendum.

The Macedonian parliament last weekend narrowly greenlighted the name change which signals a “brighter future” with NATO, but Macedonian voters by-and-large boycotted the referendum, with only 36.9 percent of eligible voters participating.

Earlier, the US State Department had urged the Macedonian opposition to vote for the name change despite the failed referendum, which was rendered invalid due to the low turnout.

Tesla Employees Describe Elon Musk As Polarizing, Wasteful Micromanager In New Expose

A new CNBC expose on Tesla, the product of conversations with 35 current and former employees, has revealed Elon Musk to be a polarizing and wasteful boss who micromanages too much.

The extended report gives yet another look into a personality and work environment that helps explain the exodus of senior executives that the company has suffered over its short lifespan; it also touches on some “creative” accounting allegedly taking place at the company, like defining extra work on production lines as “training” or “research and development”.

Hasbro will lay off hundreds after Toys 'R' Us' closure

Hasbro will lay off up to 10% of its employees, victims of the fallout after Toys "R" Us closed its doors.

The toymaker has not yet disclosed how many of its 5,400 global employees will lose their jobs. Just over half of Hasbro's staff works in the United States.
"While some of these changes are difficult, we must ensure we have the right teams in place with the right capabilities to lead the company into the future," a company spokesperson said in a statement.

Hasbro said the job cuts should save the company between $30 million to $40 million a year by 2020. Hasbro's sales fell 12% in the third quarter, a drop the company attributed primarily to the loss of Toys "R" Us. Operating profit fell 13% in the third quarter, though the company got a slight benefit from the new US tax law.

Epileptic boy, seven, whose plight triggered the Government's medicinal cannabis review now attends school every day and can even ride a bike thanks to taking the oil

Alfie Dingley, seven, from Kenilworth, had his first seizure at just eight months old and went on to have thousands more, some as often as every 30 minutes.

Unsure how best to treat the youngster, his doctor pumped him with steroids that left him 'high as kite' and even caused him to suffer psychotic episodes where he would hit his four-year-old sister Annie.

After being told the medication itself could kill him or result in him being sectioned, the family moved to the Netherlands so Alfie could take part in a cannabis oil trial.

Just five weeks later, Alfie's seizures stopped, his mood improved and his cognitive abilities started to catch up.

DOMINIC SANDBROOK: As a remainer, I’m convinced a ‘people’s vote’ would be a terrible idea

A second referendum would be a disgraceful betrayal of democracy and an insult to the 17.4 million people who voted in 2016 – and I write that as somebody who voted Remain.

Almost everything about the so-called People’s Vote effort is bogus. It claims to be a ‘grassroots campaign’, yet its headquarters are in Millbank Tower, the architectural embodiment of the Westminster establishment.

Far from being organised from the bottom up, it is actually a front for the lobby group Open Britain, a direct successor of the Remain campaign. It is backed by such ‘grassroots’ Britons as Lord Mandelson, Sir Vince Cable and Sir Nick Clegg, while its online adverts rely heavily on millionaire celebrities such as Gary Lineker, Patrick Stewart and Steve Coogan.

The very name People’s Vote is, of course, pure spin. We already had a people’s vote in 2016 – the biggest in history.

Moscow to take ‘military-technical’ measures if US goes on breaking treaties – Russian deputy FM

The US policy of breaking treaties is “crude and blunt,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said, adding that if it continues, Moscow will have to take retaliatory steps, including “military-technical” measures.

“The ?rude and blunt US policy causes more and more rejection in many countries,” Ryabkrov told RIA Novosti, commenting on US President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF). “Washington should not underestimate the ongoing shift in sentiments.”

If the US continues to unilaterally abandon major international agreements, as it has already done with the Iran nuclear deal, Moscow will be forced to take retaliatory measures, the official warned. These could include “military-technical” measures, Ryabkov added, without providing any details.

The possible withdrawal would be met with opposition from Russia, Lavrov said, adding that strategic stability can only be achieved on the basis of parity. “Such parity will be preserved in all circumstances. Germany sees Russia as stable energy partner as US demands Europe dump Nord Stream 2 pipeline

The pipe will go through the territorial waters of Finland, Sweden and Denmark. The project, led by the subsidiary of Russian energy giant Gazprom, is being implemented in cooperation with German energy firms Wintershall and Uniper, French multinational Engie, British-Dutch oil and gas giant Royal Dutch Shell, and Austrian energy company OMV.
