Terrorist Pianos of Doom!

Shortly after Sept. 11, his instrument was confiscated at JFK Airport when he landed in New York to give a recital at Carnegie Hall. Thinking the glue smelled funny, the Transportation Security Administration decided to take no chances and destroyed the piano. Since then he has shipped his pianos in parts, which he reassembles by hand after he lands. To get from city to city within the U.S., he hires a driver to take the shell of the piano, and he drives another car that holds the precious custom-designed keys and hammers.

The last time I even mentioned the Jerusalem Post on this site was about a month ago. It was in relation to a moron of a ‘journalist’ that had problems with my Blog and that of Michael Rivero’s.

This weekend, they actually published a piece worth reading. Just one quote from the article gives you a pretty good idea of what it’s all about…. a definite must read. While we Jews are celebrating what the War of Independence did for us, can’t we show a bit of magnanimity to the Arab citizens who are mourning what it did to them?

Clues about worse photos and videos of abuse may be found in Israeli files about similar abuse of Palestinian and other Arab prisoners. Obama Out-Bushes Bush on Preventive Detention

If George Bush had had the gall to propose changing the laws of the United States to allow people to be detained for long periods without even the intention of putting them on trial, progressives across the nation would be howling that the fascist hordes were at the gates. And they would be right. Even the do-nothing, scared-of-nearly-everything Congressional Black Caucus would be up in arms. George Bush and Dick Cheney empowered to imprison people without trial? Progressives everywhere would be justified in crying out against the threat to civilization as we know it. But when Barack Obama last week proposed the very same thing, preventive detention without trial, there was relative silence. People pretended it was just another Wednesday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This country is sliding into dictatorship, but most Americans cannot or will not see it.

And why??

The "pitchman" for this agenda is amazingly telegenic beyond belief, and that alone is a quality we put above the critical thinking necessary for an evaluation of what is being proposed by this administration..

Unfortunately, the agenda Obama's preaching is still the same time-released poison were were getting from Bush & Company; the only "change" has been that of appearance, not substance.

Israeli army targeted civilians, rules UN report

In a number of incidents “too numerous to list” the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) “recklessly and intentionally” put Palestinian children, civilians and aid workers in danger during their 22-day onslaught on Gaza, that is the scathing verdict of a 43-paged UN report.

The UN Secretary General also accused Israel of lying about attacks on UN schools and other facilities during the Gaza military campaign - including one reported to have killed more than 40 people, and demanded compensation. Ban Ki-moon also said a UN investigation found conclusively that Israeli weaponry, some containing white phosphorus, was “the indisputed cause” of attacks on several schools, a health clinic and the world body’s Gaza headquarters.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, this is standard operating procedure on the part of the IDF.

That horrendous tee-shirt we saw being worn by members of the IDF says it all: "one shot, two kills", referring to killing pregnant Palestinian women.

The question is, what is the world prepared to do to stop this kind of Israeli behavior?

If this kind of wanton killing, wounding and maiming were being perpetrated by any other government in the world, there would be an international outcry, sanctions, etc..

But because it's Israel against the Palestinians, all we hear is a deafening outpouring..... of silence.

And that is inexcusable.

Why the Pentagon Is Probably Lying About its Supressed Sodomy and Rape Photos

The Telegraph of London broke the news -- because the U.S. press is in a drugged stupor - -- that the photos President Barack Obama is refusing to release of detainee abuse depict, among other sexual tortures, an American soldier raping a female detainee and a male translator raping a male prisoner.

The paper claims the photos also show anal rape of prisoners with foreign objects such as wires and lightsticks. Retired Army Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba calls the images "horrific" and "indecent" (but absurdly agrees that Obama should not release them -- proving once again that the definition of hypocrisy is the assertion that the truth is in poor taste).

Then Obama changed his mind, and on Thursday, went to back to the Circuit Court and asked it, according to the Washington Post, "to recall its order requiring the release of photographs held by the Pentagon."

An 85-year-old former civilian employee of the U.S. Army was fined but avoided prison time on Friday after earlier pleading guilty to giving classified documents to Israel in the 1980s, in a case the sentencing judge said was "shrouded in mystery."

There's no mystery here: the guy was spying for Israel, so he got let off relatively easy, with a fine and no jail time.

Had he been spying for any other country on earth, he would be spending his last days cooling his heels in a jail cell, or perhaps executed for treason.

Gates: N. Korea should weigh moves carefully

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates warned North Korea on Saturday that the United States would respond quickly if moves by the communist government threaten America or its Asian allies.

"We will not stand idly by as North Korea builds the capability to wreak destruction on any target in the region — or on us," Gates told an annual international meeting of defense and security officials from Asia and the Pacific Rim.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Our options here are very limited. China is North Korea's largest trading partner, and its diplomacy is probably the best remedy in terms of persuading North Korea to cool its rhetoric, if this can at all be done.

By saying that the armistice no longer applies, it could well be that Kim Jong Il is looking for a permanent peace treaty with South Korea, coupled with aid and trade opportunities with the West.

Katrina victims to be evicted — again

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has decided to enforce a June 1 date — originally established by the Bush administration — for the eviction of several thousand victims of Hurricane Katrina who are still living in temporary trailers after nearly four years.

In a Friday press release, the US Human Rights Network stated that this decision “not only lacks basic compassion but is also a derogation of the government’s responsibilities to uphold fundamental human rights.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

FEMA just wants these people, whose lives got destroyed by this hurricane, and then by the unmitigated bungling of relocation and rebuilding plans to just vanish, go away, and never come back.

The problem is, with all that has happened to them these people have no where to go to. Many are as the article states, ".....are among the Gulf Coast’s most vulnerable residents — the poor, the ill and the elderly,”

The Federal government response to Katrina is the reason why many people are now stocking up on staples (and firearms) because the lesson of Katrina was, if you don't already have a lot of money, the government isn't all that interested in helping you survive.

Court document: Republican election judge bought votes with OxyContin

According to court documents, some worked at polling places, making sure people voted for candidates they were supposed to and then giving them stickers or tickets, which the voters then showed at other locations to get cash from others involved in the conspiracy.

He also bought votes at the polling place, giving voters a mark or ticket so they could get paid later, the indictment says.

Treasury Bonds: In the Eye of the Storm

In normal environments — when the global economy is stable, the financial system is stable and advanced economies are growing — higher rates are a recipe for a stronger currency. That means the U.S. dollar would benefit from such an aggressive move in interest rates, as investors seeking higher yields flock to the Treasury market and the U.S. dollar. The climb in interest rates would typically be associated with a central bank that is attempting to cool off inflationary pressures from an expanding economy.

That’s certainly not the case now …

Couple Ordered to Stop Holding Bible Study at Home Without Permit

Pastor David Jones and his wife Mary have been told that they cannot invite friends to their San Diego, Calif. home for a Bible study — unless they are willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars to San Diego County.

"On Good Friday we had an employee from San Diego County come to our house, and inform us that the Bible study that we were having was a religious assembly, and in violation of the code in the county." David Jones told FOX News.

"We told them this is not really a religious assembly — this is just a Bible study with friends. We have a meal, we pray, that was all," Jones said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This one is thorny. It all comes down to whether a collection is taken up by the pastor, or if any prayer or actual service is performed by the pastor. That makes it a religious assembly and subject to the zoning laws. Otherwise, if they are just reading and discussing the bible, then the First Amendment has to apply and the pastor and his friends are within their rights to study their bibles in his home.

Eugenics in Israel: Did Jews try to improve the human race too?

U.S. ‘Likely’ Could Intercept North Korean Missile

U.S. ground-based interceptor rockets would “likely” knock out a long-range North Korean missile before it could reach the American mainland, the Pentagon’s independent testing official said today.

“I believe we have a reasonable chance” of an intercept, Charles McQueary, director of operational test and evaluation, said in an interview as North Korea defied international condemnation of a nuclear test with another short-range missile launch.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to Charles McQueary: the North Korean government is many things, but not suicidal. They understand that such an action would cause the US to react with the rage and devastation which could cause the entire country to be burnt to a cinder.

And if, for all the money having been spent on our US ground-based interceptor rockets, the best we can expect is a "likely" intercept, I want my portion of my tax dollars which have paid for this system, which seems to not be able to do its job, back

Americans deserve better than a "reasonable chance" of an intercept.

FLASHBACK - The General’s Report

Taguba said that he saw “a video of a male American soldier in uniform sodomizing a female detainee.” The video was not made public in any of the subsequent court proceedings, nor has there been any public government mention of it. Such images would have added an even more inflammatory element to the outcry over Abu Ghraib.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Another confirmation that the photos and videos still being withheld by the US Government show sexual assaults.

Mainstream media outlet overwhelmed by "thank you" emails for interview questioning 9/11 OCT.

After a mainstream TV station in Fresno, California presented a "fair and balanced" interview with Richard Gage of Architects and Engineers for 911 Truth (http://ae911truth.org), the public (no doubt in shock and awe that this presentation was not subjected to the usual mainstream media self-censorship on 9/11 anomalies and unanswered questions) has overwhelmed the station's email system with thank you emails.

UPDATE: from http://911Truth.org ;

PLEASE NOTE: Although supportive notes to the station are a kind thought, and many of us have now sent them, we have been asked by the KMPH Executive Producer to not send anymore. Apparently, they've been so overwhelmed with 'thank you notes' they're missing other important emails like press releases and news tips, necessary to the continuing excellent production of Great Day. We encourage you to mail a thank you, if you feel compelled to do so, to their street address: KMPH FOX 26, 5111 E. McKinley Ave., Fresno, CA 93727.

Army investigates nude photos at Fort Dix

The Army says it's investigating allegations that eight male soldiers took pictures and video of as many as 21 female soldiers in their unit showering at Fort Dix.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, we are going to give a free pass to those who tortured innocent people to death to find weapons of mass destruction that never existed, but we're going to bitch-slap some soldiers for nudie pictures to prove what a righteous and moral people we are.

Distraction about the Distraction

I see a little brouhaha brewing on memeorandum over the possibility that Erich Muller faked his waterboarding for publicity purposes.
It's just a little "splash of water in the face", after all. Kinda like swimming, right? All one has to do has hold their breath. No big deal.

There is also a consistent misconception about just what waterboarding is that helps the advocates for torture defend its use.
After all, waterboarding is only supposed to "simulate" drowning, isn't it?
Water going directly to the lungs? I think that under most common definitions of the word, that really is drowning.

Waterboarding is Torture… Period

There is No Debate Except for Torture Apologists

1. Waterboarding is a torture technique. Period. there is no way to gloss over it or sugarcoat it

2. Waterboarding is not a simulation. Unless you have been strapped down to the board, have endured the agonizing feeling of the water overpowering your gag reflex, and then feel your throat open and allow pint after pint of water to involuntarily fill your lungs, you will not know the meaning of the word.

3. If you support the use of waterboarding on enemy captives, you support the use of that torture on any future American captives.

Dollar sinks to multimonth lows vs euro, pound

Equities in Europe, Asia and the U.S. rose, with heavy buying in emerging markets. The dollar has tended to trade inversely with stocks as falling markets prompted a safety play for cash. When stocks rise across the board, the dollar tends to suffer as investors trade in their greenbacks for foreign equities and bonds.

U.S. man who gave secrets to Israel spared jail

An 85-year-old former civilian employee of the U.S. Army was fined but given no prison time on Friday after earlier pleading guilty to giving classified documents to Israel in the 1980s in a case the sentencing judge said was "shrouded in mystery."

US violated Geneva Conventions, Bush Iraq commander says

The head of the US Central Command, General David Petraeus, said Friday that the US had violated the Geneva Conventions in a stunning admission from President Bush’s onetime top general in Iraq that the US may have violated international law.

“When we have taken steps that have violated the Geneva Conventions we rightly have been criticized, so as we move forward I think it’s important to again live our values, to live the agreements that we have made in the international justice arena and to practice those,” Gen. Petraeus said on Fox News Friday afternoon.

"The first test results came in inconclusive. They did not find anything that could confirm a nuclear device was detonated," said the U.S. official, who declined to be named.

Succumbing to the Dark Side

Torture is a violation of U.S. and international law. Yet George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, on the basis of legally incompetent memos prepared by Justice Department officials, gave the OK to interrogators to violate U.S. and international law.

The new Obama administration shows no inclination to uphold the rule of law by prosecuting those who abused their offices and broke the law.

Banks Want Government Subsidies to Buy Assets from Themselves

Allowing banks to buy their own assets under the PPIP is a terrible idea. In short, it allows a bank to sell half of its toxic loans to Treasury – at a price set by the bank.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Beyond the obvious double-shuffle flim-flam going on here is a larger issue. Recall the law of the hammer? If you give a small boy a hammer everything he encounters will need pounding. In other words, people use those skills they know about and so not see the value of skills they do not have. Because the government and the corporate culture is dominated by accounts and lawyers, every "solution" to the economic crisis offered by the banks and the government is a rule change or a bookkeeping trick. They literally cannot see, let alone fix, that the real problem is the loss of our manufacturing and the high-paying manufacturing jobs that it provided; jobs that paid for the mortgages, credit cards, cars and appliances.

Unless those jobs come back, this economy is doomed.
