Murder charge for store employee who shot robbery suspect

D.A. David Prater has charged Jerome Ersland with murder for the shooting at the reliable Pharmacy last Tuesday.

Prater says that shooting was justified, but Ersland allegedly shot Parker five more times in the abdomen.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is absurd. The DA admits the shooting was justified as self-defense, but wants to charge the guy with murder because he pulled the trigger too many times?

I have been there; when you get attacked adrenaline flows and you go into survival mode. Guys who are on Angel Dust can and do get right back up after being shot just once. Emptying the clip is a reasonable thing to do under the circumstances. Most of the comments seem to agree with this.

“The testimonies conveyed an atmosphere in which one feels entitled to use unrestricted force against Palestinians,” academy director Dany Zamir told Israel public radio.

“The climate in general…I don’t know how to describe it…. the lives of Palestinians, let’s say, are much, much less important than the lives of our soldiers,” an infantry squad leader is quoted as saying in the testimonies.

In another cited case, a commander ordered his troops to kill an elderly female civilian walking on a road, even though she was easily identifiable and clearly posed no immediate threat to the soldiers.

There is always fresh evidence justifying the Israeli-Nazi analogy. In recent days and weeks, a number of Israeli officials and lawmakers proposed “draft laws” that would effectively formalize Israel’s de facto racism and seriously restrict the human and civil rights of Israel’s non-Jewish citizens.

One of the proposals being discussed would criminalize the commemoration of Nakba by Palestinians holding the Israeli citizenship. Predictably, the brazenly racist proposal has infuriated Israel’s 1.5-million- strong Palestinian community.

One Israeli Palestinian parliamentarian compared the proposed law with an imagined promulgation by Germany of a law banning all Jewish activities commemorating the holocaust.

Was Rape an Enhanced Interrogation Technique?

There are those who argue that U.S. officials who authorized waterboarding and who performed waterboarding should not be held criminally accountable, notwithstanding the fact that the U.S. government prosecuted Japanese military personnel who waterboarded U.S. POWs during World War II. Their reasoning goes as follows: Since the president’s attorneys redefined torture to mean only those actions that threaten death or serious injury to bodily organs, waterboarding did not meet that redefinition.

S. Korea, US troops on alert after North's threats

South Korean and U.S. troops raised their alert Thursday to the highest level since 2006 after North Korea renounced its truce with the allied forces and threatened to strike any ships trying to intercept its vessels.

Webmaster's Commentary:

That meant they could not lose any more than their investment if things went wrong.

Credit card “bill of rights” puts few restraints on banks

Last week the US Congress passed and President Obama signed into law the so-called Credit Card Holders’ Bill of Rights, legislation that has been touted by both the Congress and the Obama administration as a major reform of unfair practices by credit card issuers.

This legislation has been pushed through Congress amid growing outrage by middle class card holders over the increasingly arbitrary and usurious methods being used by credit card issuers to extract ever more money from a shrinking pool of card holders who are, at the same time, being battered by the economic crisis. The banks, which have suffered severe losses in other areas, such as the collapse of the mortgage bubble, have turned to their credit card business as a potential source of increased revenue.

The 10 Most Popular Conspiracy Theories

Reptilian humanoids control us? The Government carried out 9/11? Here are the 10 wackiest -- and most durable -- conspiracy theories.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As I have pointed out over this last, the government has mounted a huge propaganda campaign to ridicule or marginalize anyone who questions the official story on anything and to imply those who do not accept what they are told by the government as having "false thoughts" (how Stalin!)

I am surprised to see Alternet go along with this, but as this example shows, the usual tactic is to take serious areas of inquiry, such as 9-11, and blend them with UFOs, Elvis, and "Reptilians". That way the serious questions about 9-11 can be ignored without having to answer them.

Cheney claims, absurdly, that torture was necessary in order to save American cities from nuclear weapons in the hands of terrorists. Many Americans have bought the argument that torture is morally justified in order to make terrorists reveal where ticking nuclear bombs are before they explode.

However, there were no hidden ticking nuclear bombs. Hypothetical scenarios were used to justify torture for other purposes.

We now know that the reason the Bush regime tortured its captives was to coerce false testimony that linked Iraq and Saddam Hussein to al Qaeda and September 11. Without this “evidence,” the US invasion of Iraq remains a war crime under the Nuremberg standard.

With no US troops available, the Bush administration is revamping US war doctrine to allow for "preventative nuclear attack." The Pentagon document, "Doctrine for Joint Nuclear Operations," calls for the use of nuclear weapons against non-nuclear adversaries in order "to ensure success of US and multinational operations."

Nuremberg set a valid precedent for trials of war-crime suspects in Iraq's destruction

Japan Times: The Nuremberg Principles, a set of guidelines established after World War II to try Nazi Party members, were developed to determine what constitutes a war crime. The principles can also be applied today when considering the conditions that led to the Iraq war and, in the process, to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, many of them children, and to the devastation of a country's infrastructure.

In January 2003, a group of American law professors warned President George W. Bush that he and senior officials of his government could be prosecuted for war crimes if their military tactics violated international humanitarian law.

Perhaps one of the most serious breaches of international law by the Bush administration was the doctrine of "preventive war." In the case of the Iraq war, it was carried out without authorization from the U.N. Security Council in violation of the U.N. Charter, which forbids armed aggression and violations of any state's sovereignty except for immediate self-defense.

Here, in France, we have a series of laws that make it a crime to deny the Holocaust. At most, the prosecutions make heroes of the Holocaust deniers to their small coterie of followers and do nothing to spread the truth of how Hitler tried to annihilate Jews,Roma and Sinti, and gays. So why lean on ineffective laws that only get in the way? Leave historical truth to historians and to playwrights, as the First Amendment compels Americans to do. Springtime for Hitler is a much more effective way to marginalize the purveyors of hate.

Canada's Soaring deficit undermines confidence in finance minister, say Liberals

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty has "lost credibility" after announcing Canada's deficit will soar to a record level, Liberal finance critic John McCallum said Wednesday.

McCallum, a former chief economist at Royal Bank, said he warned Flaherty early last year against spending "drunkenly" during good economic times.

"Sadly, I'm afraid this serves to further undermine confidence in our finance minister at a time when Canada desperately needs competence and strength at the helm in this area," said McCallum.

That's out of 64 confirmed or suspected suicides in the entire Army, according to official statistics. At that rate, the Army is on pace for a record number of suicides this year.

Psychologists Weigh In On 9/11

A new article in U.S. News & World Report quotes a couple of psychologists, one sociologist and one historian to argue that people who question the government's version of 9/11 are prone to false thinking.Initially, remember that, while there are many honorable psychologists and psychiatrists, psychologists helped to create the U.S. torture program, and actively participated in it.

How George Bush Gave Krazy Kim The Bomb

How did a berserker like North Korea’s Kim Jong Il get the bomb in the first place? Answer: He bought it from the Dr. Strangelove of Pakistan in 2001 — while all our President’s men ordered our intelligence agents to keep their eyes shut tight.

US Scholars: 9/11 and the architects of World War II

Official accounts on 9/11 requires individuals to disregard every single piece of documentation unearthed by 9/11 scholars, independent investigative researchers and eyewitness accounts. Official accounts requires in individuals who are presented with such voluminous evidence, to totally disregard it, and to have "blind faith" in the architects of an aggressive war, now responsible in the deaths of over one million Iraqis alone, in addition to other innocent civilians in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The Iraq War Really Is a Crusade

Given that the Iraq war really was a crusade, the fact that the Pentagon is now saying that it may have to leave troops in Iraq for another decade shows that the crusade is still ongoing under Obama.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Entering the city [Jerusalem, July 15, 1099], our pilgrims pursued and killed Saracens up to the Temple of Solomon, in which they had assembled and where they gave battle to us furiously for the whole day so that their blood flowed throughout the whole temple. Finally, having overcome the pagans, our knights seized a great number of men and women, and the killed whom they wished and whom they wished they let live.... Then, rejoicing and weeping from extreme joy, our men went to worship at the sepulchre of jour Saviour Jesus and thus fulfilled their pledge to Him.... They also ordered that all the Saracen dead should be thrown out of the city because of the extreme stench, for the city was almost full of their cadavers. The live Saracens dragged the dead out before the gates and made piles of them, like houses. No one has ever heard of or seen such a slaughter of pagan peoples since pyres were made of them like boundary marks, and no one except God knows their number."

Children Who Get Flu Vaccine Have 3 Times Risk of Hospitalization For Flu

The inactivated flu vaccine does not appear to be effective in preventing influenza-related hospitalizations in children, especially the ones with asthma. In fact, children who get the flu vaccine are more at risk for hospitalization than their peers who do not get the vaccine, according to new research that will be presented on May 19, at the 105th International Conference of the American Thoracic Society in San Diego.

US killed 97 Afghan civilians in two days

A human rights group has confirmed that the United States used disproportionate force in its recent raids in Afghanistan and killed 97 civilians to get at two Taliban militants.

Afghanistan’s Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC), which launched a probe into early May US-led air strikes in the country, announced Tuesday that 21 of the fatalities of the attacks were women and 65 were children.

Israeli ‘Compromise’ Would Expand Settlements

But the Netanyahu government can’t really afford a major confrontation with its largest ally, and so it has offered what is being presented as a “compromise” solution. The government will agree to dismantle nearly two dozen illegal outposts so long as the United States promises to stop calling for a halt to settlement growth.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is why I call Obama the "Token" President. In exchange for a "Token" dismantling of illegal outposts, he will turn a blind eye to Israel's continued theft of Palestinian lands.

Ending Today's Economic Crisis Simply and Easily, in America and Globally

Economist Michael Hudson explains that "debt leveraging is what caused our economic collapse," so piling on more ("The Recovery Plan from Hell" he calls it) makes things worse, especially the way it's done:

-- in America, by a private banking cartel Federal Reserve bailing out its members to enrich them - the key giant ones referred to as Wall Street; and

-- the US Treasury doing the same thing; it let the federal debt skyrocket to stratospheric levels and affirmed Adam Smith's dictum in The Wealth of Nations that no country ever repaid its debts, surely not huge ones in a private banking cartel run state, and therein lies the problem - easily solved with a bold stroke, thus far not taken nor will it without mass public action demanding it.

Coming Soon To a City Near You

The government spends billions of taxpayer dollars creating and sustaining a perpetual fear level, with the mainstream media (MSM) more than a willing partner.

Economist: Waterboard the Fed

The U.S. taxpayer footed the bill for the Federal Reserve to create, then loan, trillions in new U.S. currency to banking and insurance interests in an effort to keep the U.S. economy buoyed. So why won’t they disclose how much was loaned, and to whom?

One economist has perhaps the first plausible road to finding out exactly how the real purse of the United States is managed.

Barak: U.S. must learn - outposts and Iran are unrelated issues

Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Tuesday that the United States must be told that Iran's nuclear program and outpost activity in the West Bank are two unrelated issues.

"We need to find a way to explain to the Americans that there is no link between outposts and Iran," Barak told reporters. "It's not as though the minute an illegal outpost is dismantled the Iranian will abandon their nuclear aspirations. Therefore, these issues must not be directly hinged on one another."

US: H-1B workers outnumber unemployed techies

Visions Systems was included in a sweep that led to arrests of some 11 people in six states. The government, in announcing its action, said the companies and people involved were "displacing qualified American workers," but didn't identify how many. In court papers filed last month, the U.S. indicated it may be getting ready to do just that.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Behind that fraudulent displacement of American workers lies an uncomfortable fact; the foreign workers are often more qualified.

The reason is simple. American schools have been transformed from centers of learning teaching science and engineering into political indoctrination centers promoting various agendas such as gay awareness, multiculturalism, intelligent design, and of course, human-caused global warming.

As a result, American workers are highly educated in totally useless areas, while lagging behind the rest of the industrialized world in the basic skills needed to compete in a modern technological marketplace.

China Is Now in Firm Control of U.S. Debt Markets

So far, in the three months of data which have been reported for this year (Jan., Feb., March), the net result was an outflow of capital from the U.S. totaling $211.4 billion.

Does this number suggest China is “trapped” into buying U.S. debt?

The March number is slightly more instructive. This marks the beginning of the newest propaganda-offensive from the U.S. corporate media in asserting (yet again) that the U.S. economy was starting to “recover”. This was epitomized by U.S. court-jester Ben Bernanke prancing around, braying about “green shoots”.

In March, the TIC inflow into the U.S. was a paltry $23.2 billion. However, net purchases of U.S. Treasuries totaled $47.9 billion – meaning the net results for all other categories of U.S. debt was yet another outflow of $24.7 billion.

Here are a few pics of the conditions we had at the border crossing. In particular you see a disabled boy with our group forced to sleep on the floor beside his wheel chair. Someone using a brick as a pillow.
We had 6 male toilets with no toilet paper, so were forced to take a bottle of water and use that as best we could instead of toilet paper.
At a later stage we were given mattresses and pillows.
