THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

"The global financial elite of the Ford, Carnegie and Rockefeller foundations are making the plans [for a one world government]. The real name of the game is 1984. We will have systematic population reduction, forced sterilization or anything else which the planners deem necessary to establish absolute control in their humanitarian utopia. But to enforce these plans, you must have an all-powerful world government. You can't do this if individual nations have sovereignty. And before you can facilitate the Great Merger, you must first centralize control within each nation, destroy the local police and remove the guns from the hands of the citizenry. You must replace our once free Constitutional Republic with an all-powerful central government." -- Gary Allen in his book "None Dare Call It Conspiracy"

Using wood to get a cleaner drink of water

Following a major quake, Wellingtonians may have a local student to thank for a giardia-free drink of water.

Wadestown School student Jacqui Ormsby won last week's Wellington Regional Science and Technology Fair with her discovery native woods like totara could filter out the stomach illness-causing parasite. "The tree does it naturally. It goes up through the roots and it filters out the bugs and the dirt, while taking it to the branches."

The system the 13-year-old designed used gravity to drive it: a 2L water bottle is connected to a plastic hose fitted with a 15mm piece of bark-stripped wood, held in place by plumber's tape. Jacqui wanted a set-up any household could make in a situation like the aftermath of a major disaster.

"I wanted to focus on emergencies because of all the earthquakes that happen in New Zealand."

Former spy paid to infiltrate Greenpeace and unions

The former spy who sued police after his decade of deception was exposed is believed to have been awarded a settlement by his former employers.

Rob Gilchrist sued the police for $550,000 in 2013 alleging he had been hung out to dry by the police after infiltrating activists groups and trade unions.

Gilchrist's double life was finally revealed in December 2008, when his then-girlfriend Rochelle Rees, a Labour Party and animal rights activist found, incriminating emails to police while carrying out work on his computer. She installed spyware on his computer and mobile phone to confirm her suspicions.

It is understood Gilchrist and the police have reached an agreement, though neither party was willing to comment on the resolution of a claim that reached the High Court.

"I'm not in a position to make any comment other than to say I no longer have any outstanding issues surrounding my time working for NZ Police," Gilchrist said, via email.

80 Year Old Woman Trampled To Death In Venezuela Supermarket Stampede

With 30% of Venzuelans eating two or fewer meals per day, social unrest is mounting rapidly in President Nicolas Maduro's socialist utopia. As WSJ reports, soldiers have now been deployed to stem rampant food smuggling and price speculation, which Maduro blames for triple-digit inflation and scarcity. "Due to the shortage of food... the desperation is enormous," local opposition politician Andres Camejo said, and nowhere is that more evident than the trampling death of an 80-year-old woman outside a state-subsidized supermarket.

TSA screener accused of molesting college student in LaGuardia Airport bathroom

A TSA screener is accused of sexually assaulting a woman at LaGuardia Airport in New York City after telling her she needed to be searched in the bathroom.

The suspect did not post $3,000 bail and was moved to jail late Friday night.

Defense attorneys argued two witnesses said they saw another man, but prosecutors say the victim picked Maxie Oquendo out in a lineup.

The TSA screener is accused of using his job to lure a passenger into a bathroom at LaGuardia Airport under the guise that he needed to search her for weapons.

Connecticut Becomes The FIRST State To End Chronic Homelessness Among Veterans

By Amanda Froelich

Positive news! Officials of Connecticut announced last Thursday that the state has officially become the first in the nation to provide housing for every one of its chronically homeless veterans.

No doubt national and state officials are celebrating the monumental achievement after having set a goal earlier on to end veteran homelessness by the end of 2015.

The Connecticut Department of Housing, the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness (CCEH), and other nonprofits and volunteers who spent time on the streets identifying homeless veterans played a major role in the state’s coordinated efforts...

Texas teenager creates $20 water purifier to tackle toxic e-waste pollution

Consumer electronics, including computers and mobiles, are leaving a legacy of toxic waste in countries including China and India. Recycling factories across Asia are recovering e-waste exported from around the world, but discharging heavy metals and chemicals into local water supplies in the process.

...

Now a new filtering device, invented by a US teenager, could provide a cheap and easy way to purify water.

The renewable heavy metal filter, designed by 18-year-old Perry Alagappan, removes 99% of heavy metals from water that passes through it. The filter, built from graphene nanotubes, can be rinsed with a vinegar concentrate and reused. The highly concentrated waste can then be evaporated, leaving a deposit of pure metal that can be used in many different applications.

Appeals court reverses ruling that found NSA program illegal

A federal appeals court on Friday ruled in favor of the Obama administration in a dispute over the National Security Agency's bulk collection of telephone data on hundreds of millions of Americans.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit reversed a lower court ruling that said the program likely violates the Constitution's ban on unreasonable searches.

The ruling means the government can continue collecting the data for the next few months, although the program is set to expire at the end of November under legislation that Congress passed earlier this summer to replace it. The appeals court sent the case back for a judge to determine whether the government must divulge more details about the program that would enable the case to go forward.

Windows 10 automatically sends parents detailed dossier of their children's internet history and computer use

Windows 10 sends a weekly “activity update” on childrens’ internet browsing and computer history to parents, by default and without telling anyone. The feature could be dangerous as well as embarrassing, users have pointed out, allowing parents to watch everything their children do on the computer.

The operating system sends a weekly note that includes a list of websites children have visited, how many hours per day they have spent on the computer, and for how long they have used their favourite apps, according to reports.

The feature appears to be turned on by default for family accounts — not notifying either children or their parents that they are being spied on — and was reported by parents who hadn’t asked for and weren’t aware of activating the feature themselves.

Zac Efron's new film is one of the biggest bombs ever

The latest movie starring wonderboy Zac Efron has bombed over the weekend, becoming one of the worst releases in American box office history.

We Are Your Friends, which stars Efron as an aspiring DJ, flopped, with Entertainment Weekly reporting it grossed just US$1.8 million (NZ$2.79m) despite being released in 2388 theatres.

Some are speculating the film, which is also screening in New Zealand, may not even make back it's US$6 million (NZ$9.2m) budget.

The only movies to gross worse than it over the past 33 years are Ooglieloves in the BIG Balloon Adventure and Delgo, both of which failed to crack US$1 million.

US considered nuking Afghanistan after 9/11 – German diplomat

A nuclear strike against Afghanistan was on the table in Washington in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, a senior German diplomat told Spiegel magazine.

Michael Steiner, the current German ambassador to India, served as foreign and security policy aide to then-German Chancellor Gerhard Schroder at the time of the 9/11 attacks.

"The papers were written," he said, confirming that the nuclear option was under consideration. "They had really played through all possibilities."

The nine most warmongering countries in the world revealed

The worst country in the world for internal conflict was Uganda, according to the IEP. It has been heavily involved in fighting in the DR Congo, as well as in skirmishes with the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) of Joseph Kony in border regions.

The US came second, followed by Rwanda and then the UK, which IEP said has nonetheless improved its overall ranking in the index “as a result of its exit from the mission in Afghanistan”.

Overall, Japan is ranked as the eighth-most peaceful country in the world, second only to New Zealand in the Asia-Pacific region.

'Mad' apprenticeship targets have consigned a generation to low-skill, low-paid duties

So far this year, there have been only 220 new science and maths apprenticeships created at any level, while engineering and manufacturing apprenticeships make up fewer than one in five of the new jobs.

Many of the roles being offered on the Government’s website appear to be little more than traditional school-leaver jobs in clerical, catering and retail work “rebranded” as apprenticeships. There are now apprenticeships in street cleaning, warehouse labouring and shop work.

This allows employers to pay a new 18-year-old worker just £2.73 an hour compared with the national minimum wage for that age range of £5.13. While employers are obliged to pay those staff for the one day a week they spend in academic training, this is more than made up for by the government grants available for taking on apprentices.

Florida Hurricanes Becoming Much Less Common

Florida was hit by three hurricanes in 1926, killing hundreds of people. One of the storms was a category 4 hurricane which destroyed Miami.

By contrast, it has now been almost 10 years since Florida was hit by a hurricane – the longest such period on record. It has also been almost 10 years since the US was hit by a major (category 3-5) hurricane.

Sanders Surges As 1 Million Fake Hillary Followers Exposed

"This feels like 2008 all over again," as NPR reports the latest Iowa Poll showed Sanders just 7 points behind Hillary Clinton, who leads 37 to 30 percent among likely Democratic caucus-goers. Why 2008? As NPR notes, that's when a heavily favored Clinton stumbled and lost to Barack Obama, then a young senator whose middle name, Hussein, was the same as a dictator the U.S. had just overthrown and whose last name rhymed with America's Public Enemy No. 1. And while the socialist septuagenarian continues to surge, Hillary faces yet another 'issue', as Yahoo Tech reports, 1 million (or one third) of her 'apparent' Twitter followers are fake.

"Jewish extremists" are Israel's own sons

Earlier this month, a strange thing happened: a Jewish extremist was held in "administrative detention" by Israel. This practise, internment without charge or trial, dates back to the British occupation of Palestine, and Israel habitually uses it against Palestinians.

But for a Jewish citizen to be "administratively detained" is highly unusual. The internee is Meir Ettinger, a 24-year-old pro-settler fanatic who is the grandson of the notorious Rabbi Meir Kahane.

Kahane was the founder of the Jewish Defence League, a terrorist organization founded in New York in 1969. The group was responsible for a string of bombing and other violent attacks against Palestinian, Egyptian and Soviet civilian targets in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as against JDL members who quarrelled with the leadership in one way or another.

Clinton secrets hacked by spy in bag

THE MI6 spy found dead in a holdall had illegally hacked into secret data on Bill Clinton, The Sun on Sunday can reveal.

Gareth Williams, 31, dug out the guestlist for an event the former American president was going to as a favour for a pal.

The codebreaker — who had breached his security clearance — handed the list to the friend, who was also to be a guest.

MI6 bosses raged over the data breach amid growing tensions with US security services over Mr Williams’s transatlantic work.

Today, just over five years since his body was found inside a padlocked bag, his death remains one of Britain’s most mysterious unsolved cases.

The Sun on Sunday can reveal that voicemail messages Mr Williams left for family and pals were deleted in the days after his death.

IF YOU LIKE YOUR 401(k), YOU CAN KEEP YOUR 401(k): Obama Labor Dept. Sets Stage for Nationalizing Retirement Accounts

In 2013, in a little-heralded case, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit rejected the Obama Labor Department's attempt to punish voluntary retirement plan service providers. The DOL, under the direction of the controversial, radical leftist Tom Perez, had tried to force providers of 401(k), 403(b), IRA, and related services to adopt a massive new set of regulations known as "fiduciary" responsibilities.

The Seventh Circuit slammed the door shut on Labor and the Supreme Court thereafter declined to hear the appeal, which meant that the Obama administration had lost in the highest court in the land.

Of course for the "most transparent administration ever", that step simply meant that the court's opinion was to be rejected and that Obama would use his infamous pen to rule by executive fiat. After all, the ends justify the means, correct?

Anti-American Sentiment Surges in Russia as US Officer Taunts From Perch at Fox

Since the beginning of the year, Putin’s propaganda industry, feeling the economic crisis, has had to tighten its belt. The Russian Information Agency TASS announced a 25 percent staff reduction and 20 percent salary cut for its employees. Rossiyskaya Gazeta, which holds the monopoly on the official publications of new laws and government decrees, fired 10% of its staff. Similar examples are innumerable, as Bloomberg reported in January.

Despite all the economizing, the level of anti-Americanism in Russia has reached its all-time high, fluctuating from 70 percent to 73 percent of negative and strongly negative feelings towards the US this year, according to the respected polling institution Levada-Center.

U.S. Police Routinely Travel to Israel to Learn Methods of Brutality and Repression

Political commentator John Miranda recently stated that police brutality is directly linked to the training some officers receive in Israel.

“As for the increase in police brutality within the United States, I think this definitely can be pointed towards the Israeli training that the Department of Homeland Security is giving all of American police officers.

Some police officers are actually being flown to Israel for the training, not all of them but some, and then those that are flown to Israel, they come back home and they train the head officers in the training that they’ve gotten in Israel.

All these incidents, it is not just happening to African Americans. Police are literally being brutal with all Americans.”

99% Of Women Profiles On Ashley Madison Were Fake

At the time, the hackers claimed that 90-95% of the accounts on Ashley Madison were male with “thousands” of fake female profiles. It turns out the group were correct but underestimated the figures ever so slightly.

After careful scrutiny of the data in order to verify that 5.5 million female accounts were indeed fake, the information reveals that many accounts were created with a single localhost IP of 127.0.0.1. This was along with thousands of accounts which listed AshleyMadison.com email address as their primary contact point including organized accounts which stated 100@ashleymadison.com, 200@ashleymadison.com and so on.

Another piece of information which is certainly revealing conveys the last log in date a user has checked their inbox, this data is logged by the site even if the user only checks it once. It reveals a huge 20,269,675 men checked their messages while only 1492 woman viewed their inbox.

Cameron Ennobles Director of British Israel Lobby

There is currently a petition on the House of Commons website that demands the arrest of Netanyahu should he try to visit the UK in September. This petition is now expected to reach 100,000 signatures within the next few days.

However, notwithstanding the strength of feeling in the UK against Israeli brutality, Cameron has stunned British voters by proposing to ennoble the director of the British Israel lobby that condones the illegal settlements and the brutal killings by the IDF.

This perverse decision would mean, if ratified, that effectively, an agent of the Israeli government in Tel Aviv would be sitting in the House of Lords, in London – in the second chamber of the British Parliament.

That is a position that would be deemed anti-democratic at best and unacceptable to those who require our legislators to hold an unequivocal allegiance exclusively to the democratic institutions of the United Kingdom.

Yemen air strike kills 31 in Hajjah province

An air strike by the Saudi-led coalition backing pro-government forces in Yemen has killed 31 people in the northern province of Hajjah.

The strikes hit a bottling plant in the province on Sunday morning. Most of the dead were civilians.

The UN says almost 4,500 people have died since the coalition started its campaign in March and that there is now a humanitarian "catastrophe".

"The process of recovering the bodies is finished now. The corpses... many of them burnt or in pieces, were pulled out after an air strike hit the plant," resident Issa Ahmed told the Reuters new agency from the site of Sunday's strike in Hajjah.

Global War On Terror Has Killed 4 Million Muslims Or More

Published in March by Physicians for Social Responsibility, the study, conducted by a team that included some Nobel Prize winners, determined that at least 1.3 million people have died as a result of war since Sept.11, 2001, but the real figure might be as high as two million. The study was an attempt to “close the gaps” in existing research, including studies like the Iraq Body Count,” which puts the number of violent deaths in that country at about 219,000 since 2003, based on media reports of the time period.

Investigative journalist Nafeez Ahmed, writing in April for Middle East Eye, explained some of the ways the previous figures fell short, according to the physicians’ research:
