However, take away from them the power to create money and all the great fortunes like mine will disappear and they ought to disappear, for this would be a happier and better world to live in. U.S. federal government on the verge of demanding mandatory mental health screening for teens (to add MORE psychiatric drugs to their plate)

Will screening for psychiatric illness soon join vaccines as an expected part of childhood?

The United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPTF) recently updated its recommendations on the screening of children and adolescents for major depressive disorder (MDD), in an article in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine. The task force now recommends that all children aged 12 and up be screened for MDD as part of their regular doctor visits.

"The USPSTF recommends screening for major depressive disorder (MDD) in adolescents aged 12 to 18 years," the task force said. "Screening should be implemented with adequate systems in place to ensure accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and appropriate follow-up."

Berkeley Law dean takes leave of absence amid allegations of sexual harassment

The dean of the UC Berkeley School of Law will take an indefinite leave of absence from his position as dean — but will remain a faculty member of the school — amid allegations of sexual harassment.

A confidential campus investigation’s findings in July led the campus to determine that Sujit Choudhry’s behavior violated the university’s sexual harassment policies, according to a statement issued Wednesday by Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Claude Steele.

Our Nation Depends on Restoring Product Liability

At the height of its power, ancient Rome created many new technologies which allowed it to become the supreme power over their portion of the world. These accomplishments included the invention of concrete, improved metallurgy, medicine, hygiene, plumbing, and sewage. As each of these were developed, Rome came to be dependent on them. As Rome went into decline, their ability to maintain their technologies started to fade. Aqueducts stopped delivering water. Public health failed. Metal rusted. Concrete cracked. Eventually the failure of those systems on which Rome was dependent hastened its eventual fall.

As Mark Twain said, History doesn't repeat, but occasionally it rhymes, and we are seeing in the United States and indeed the entire world many repeats of that same recipe for decline and fall.

The one aspect I wish to address is the current state of computers and software.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am reposting this because once again I have purchased a piece of computer equipment that failed right out of the box. A web search reveals many people are having the same problem I did, yet the item is still on the store racks, with the manufacturer and retailer blaming each other for the problem. At the end, I am out my money, three very frustrating hours, and still did not accomplish the task at hand.

Germany Enters a Dangerous New Political Era

Seven or eight months ago, Germany was a different country than it is today. There were no controversial political issues demanding immediate action and Chancellor Angela Merkel's leadership was uncontested. It was quiet and comfortable. But then the refugees began streaming into Europe and the country's sleepy tranquility came to a sudden end. Since then, disgusting eruptions of xenophobia have come in quick succession, a right-wing populist party is on its way to holding seats in several state parliaments, Merkel has gained approval from the center-left Social Democrats and from the Greens, some conservatives want to throw her out and the state is overwhelmed. Does anyone know what is happening? What is wrong with this country?

HuffPo’s Grim: 54 Private Jets at Meeting to Stop Trump

Huffington Post reporter Ryan Grim told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin on Tuesday that “something like 54 private jets” had arrived at an elite meeting of tech CEOs, GOP party insiders and big donors set on stopping Donald Trump before he wins the Republican nomination.

The meeting was the annual World Forum, an off-the-record conference hosted by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), a leading Washington, D.C.-based conservative think tank. AEI has hosted the “secretive” event since 1982, but this year had a unique focus. Republican pundit Bill Kristol and former George W. Bush strategist Karl Rove were there, among others, including leaders of both the House and Senate.

Pentagon’s War on the Earth

We are waging war. We are the Nation of War. We destroy. We kill. Everyone fears us.

Fewer and fewer admire us.

But our fighting forces—and their attendant industries which manufacture the bombs, bullets, and ballistic delivery devices—also wage a war on the clean air, clean water, and clean soil many Americans falsely regard as protected by legislation fought for by those trying to protect our environment.

Recent reports from around the country show the party most likely to toxify our land is our own military. These are just a small fraction of the reports from the past couple of weeks:

Don't Choose Cruz

Here's a plea to #NeverTrump voters in Florida and Ohio considering voting for Ted Cruz: Don't do it.

For the past several weeks, the Republican establishment has frantically been looking for someone, anyone, who can stop Donald Trump. And of all the GOP contenders, Cruz has demonstrated that he might — just might — be that person. After all, while Donald Trump has won 15 contests and has 458 delegates, Cruz isn't that far behind, with seven wins and 359 delegates. Marco Rubio has won a measly two. John Kasich is 0-for-24.

But here's the thing: Cruz's success has not inspired a single person who has actually worked with him to join his cause.>>>

Trump Could Put An End to Hillary Clinton Once and for All

Hillary Clinton is the most dangerous person in America. She is vulnerable. Trump could take her down, today, if he chose to do so. We don’t need Benghazi or the email scandal to do so. We only need to expose her relationship with criminal BLM. Trump has taken us half way there. Will he finish the job?

One of my readers recently sent me a published account of a story run by the Reno Gazette-Journal, which was published right before last month’s Nevada Republican Primary. The story was a collection of statements containing criticisms of the BLM and their heavy-handed ways when it comes to interacting with local ranchers and farmers. The statements were issued by none other than Donald Trump.

In the article, Trump made the point that the BLM’s steadfast resistance to releasing land, in combination with Trump’s hot-button issue, namely the failure to enforce immigration laws, is “damaging the economy, lowering the standard of living and inhibiting natural economic growth.”

This Is How Bad The Economy Really Is: “Walmart Customers Are Too Broke To Shop”

You may find that the below report is, as President Obama might suggest, once again “peddling fiction.”

But for the average American, we can assure you that the economic recession is a very real situation.

Walmart, which made its billions serving low to middle income Americans, is struggling and it’s because their core customer base is too broke to shop. As Michael Snyder recently pointed out, they are just one of many domestic retailers laying off workers amid falling store sales. But they are certainly the biggest and baddest of the retailers out there. If they are having problems it should be a big red warning sign that despite mainstream cheerleaders telling us not to panic because the economy is still in good shape, we are in for some rough times ahead – in fact, the rough times are a reality right here and now.

Why, look: It’s an oil price-rigging revival

Beware, Americans! Wall Street is desperately trying to rig the oil and gasoline markets again.

I’ve been following this scheme for nearly 10 years as speculators, led by the Goldman Sachs gang, tried to convince people that the world is running short of oil and that the price would soon go to $200 a barrel. That would have meant more than $5 for a gallon of gas.

The scam artists even had a fancy name for it: peak oil, a phrase coined by a Shell Oil employee decades before and laid to rest until Wall Street latched onto it.

And just about everyone in the media bought into this cockamamy idea>>>

Trump says GOP opposition to him 'taking advantage of our country'

The billionaire businessman called his campaign a movement "of competence and common sense and low taxes and [secure] borders and it would be so foolish to give it away."

Trump was referring to a conference held by the conservative American Enterprise Institute at Sea Island off the coast of Georgia over the weekend, where one of the topics reportedly was stopping Trump from securing the Republican nomination.

"I know all these people," Trump told Hannity. "These are people that are taking advantage of our country. They don’t want to have strong borders. They want stuff flowing across the borders. They don’t want to have taxation when countries treat us unfairly because they benefit from that."

"Politicians will do what’s right for the people that gave them the money," Trump added later, "not what's right for the country."

NZ Reserve Bank surprises, cuts rates to 2.25pc

• The cut of 25 basis points was unexpected and bring rates to a new record low of 2.25 per cent.

• The Co-Operative Bank was the first bank to drop its floating mortgage rate, saying it wanted its customers to quickly receive the benefits of the cut.

• Governor Graeme Wheeler said cheap fuel and other imports continued to keep inflation low and he didn't expect inflation to reach the targeted mid-point of 2 per cent until March 2018.

• Wheeler warned if the OCR cut put more heat into the housing market the Reserve Bank would have to consider raising rates.

Reserve Bank Governor Graeme Wheeler's rate cut today has surprised markets and increased the chance that we could see rates go below 2 per cent for the first time, says Paul Dales, chief economist at Capital Economist in Sydney.

That would require two further cuts to the rate. Most economists are picking just one.

Hong Lei warned the United States and Australia that their military cooperation should be aimed at protecting peace and stability in the region, rather than hurting the interests of a third party.

Immigration questions swirl around KCK mass murder suspect

The Mexican man accused of five murders this week avoided deportation despite encounters with police and at least one notification that federal immigration officials didn’t pursue in time.

Wyandotte County officials confirmed Wednesday that after a domestic violence arrest last year, federal immigration officials apparently missed an opportunity to ensure the detention of Pablo Serrano-Vitorino, now accused of killing four people in Kansas City, Kan., and one in Montgomery County, Mo.

A spokeswoman for the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office said that after Serrano-Vitorino was arrested in June he said he was born in Mexico. Officials then followed the procedure for any foreign-born person booked into the jail and sent a notice to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The sheriff’s office said its records show that ICE agents did not respond within the prescribed four-hour time frame to the notification.

Microsoft wants to monopolise games development on PC. We must fight it

With its new Universal Windows Platform (UWP) initiative, Microsoft has built a closed platform-within-a-platform into Windows 10, as the first apparent step towards locking down the consumer PC ecosystem and monopolising app distribution and commerce.

In my view, this is the most aggressive move Microsoft has ever made. While the company has been convicted of violating antitrust law in the past, its wrongful actions were limited to fights with specific competitors and contracts with certain PC manufacturers.

This isn’t like that. Here, Microsoft is moving against the entire PC industry – including consumers (and gamers in particular), software developers such as Epic Games, publishers like EA and Activision, and distributors like Valve and Good Old Games.

Cali Shuts Down Commercial Crab Season “Indefinitely” Cites “Naturally-occurring Toxin,” but Real Culprit Is Radiation

They're trying to blame this on global warming, BUT...

Workers in the California Fish and Game Commission have revealed to SuperStation95 that the real reason for cancelling this $60 million per year commercial seafood season is: Radiation contamination of seafood from the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan.

According to these workers, who requested anonymity because they fear losing their jobs, radiation levels in local crab, especially Rock crab, were so high that officials feared anyone who consumed the crabs would suffer immediate sickness traceable directly back to the seafood. "If people started connecting the dots proving radiation in seafood was making them sick, it would utterly destroy California's seafood industry in days" they said.

In the mid-2000s, my old friend Bill Odom, the three-star general who ran the NSA for Ronald Reagan, accurately characterized the war as “the greatest strategic disaster in U.S. history.” Yet today that calamitous legacy and its five trillion dollar total cost is warmly embraced by many of the top Republican leaders and publicly criticized by almost none of them.

However, just a couple of weeks ago, Trump blasted the war and the Bush Administration lies behind it on nationwide television during a Republican debate, inducing total shock within the Republican commentariat,>>>

The sheer worthlessness of today’s Republicans was brought home to me more directly in the last couple of weeks as I undertook a long-deferred but sadly necessary task.

Western Powers Prepare Military Operations In Libya

The New York Times reported Tuesday that US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter has provided the White House with a detailed plan for expansive military operations throughout Libya.

The proposal was presented by Carter to President Barack Obama’s top national security advisers on February 22. Drawn up by the Pentagon’s Africa Command and the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), the operation would reportedly involve airstrikes on 30 to 40 targets determined to belong to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

There is no doubt that a 'more pharma is better' culture lies at the heart of today's failed healthcare system

Sir Richard Thompson – former president of the Royal College of Physicians, and personal doctor to the British Queen for 21 years – and five eminent colleagues, have started a campaign to raise awareness of over-medication in favor of Big Pharma.

The campaign highlights the fact that current drug treatments are often based on shaky science, and their efficiency and use are often misjudged – especially when it comes to treating the elderly.

"The time has come for a full and open public enquiry into the way evidence of the efficacy of drugs is obtained and revealed. There is real danger that some current drug treatments are much less effective than had previously been thought," Sir Richard told the U.K.'s Daily Mail.

The Pentagon has deployed drones to spy over U.S. territory for non-military missions over the past decade, but the flights have been rare and lawful, according to a new report.

The report by a Pentagon inspector general, made public under a Freedom of Information Act request, said spy drones on non-military missions have occurred fewer than 20 times between 2006 and 2015 and always in compliance with existing law.

Nobody Knows The Identity Of The 150 People Killed By U.S. In Somalia, But Most Are Certain They Deserved It

The U.S. used drones and manned aircraft yesterday to drop bombs and missiles on Somalia, ending the lives of at least 150 people. As it virtually always does, the Obama administration instantly claimed that the people killed were “terrorists” and militants — members of the Somali group al Shabaab — but provided no evidence to support that assertion.

Finicum's Wake

Somewhere there are still peoples and herds, but not with us, my brethren; here there are states….
A state is called the coldest of all cold monsters. Coldly it lies also; and this lie creepeth from its mouth: `I the state, am the people.’…
Destroyers are they who lay snares for many, and call it the state….

The wall separating “foreign” intelligence operations from domestic criminal investigations has finally, fully collapsed. The FBI is now acting on a rule change initiated by the Bush administration, and finally massaged into actionable policy by Obama: Now, FBI agents can query the NSA’s database of Americans’ international communications, collected without warrants pursuant to Section 702 of the 2008 FISA Amendments Act. That law put congress’ stamp of approval on the Bush administration’s warrantless wiretapping program, which was widely denounced as totalitarian when the New York Times‘ James Risen exposed it to the world in 2005.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of austerity, it was the age of a trillion dollar warplanethat no one could make work. The financial sink hole known as the F-35 continues to fail the most basic flight and sensor tests. The warplane, estimated to have a total cost around $1.5 trillion, has already come up short in simulated dogfights with the F-16. Yes, the new and improved model is worse than a plane introduced in 1978. The F-35 also has a limited fuel supply which means it will not be able to stay in an area to protect ground troops. Not that that would matter anyway as the plane’s Gatling guns still don’t work. Also, there are concerns as to whether the F-35 can even be traditionally fueled because the plane has a problem with accepting hotter fuel. The air force’s current solution is to repaint fuel trucks to accept less sunlight in hopes of keeping the temperature down. Seriously.

They wanted to change their image, so they began a massive public relations campaign, ramping up spending from $599 in 2011 to $136,783 in 2013. The “media affairs unit” is made up of very well-paid employees who push their message in social media such as Facebook and Twitter. Last year the DPD spent $450,000 on six employees in the media team, which is far more than six cops on the beat would make.

So, over the past year in conjunction with the FSB in Russia were identified 42 terrorist cell, and in other countries – about 30 cells. The official list of terrorists, according to Chihanchin, were made about one and a half thousand people, more than 3.5 thousand frozen accounts. Chihanchin stressed that the Federal financial monitoring service works closely with foreign intelligence agencies. So, according to him, active work is being done with France. "Now working very closely with the French, one of the cells already arrested in France. Our representatives from the Caucasus organized it. In Russia there were about a thousand people, with whom they maintained contact", — quotes "Interfax" Chihanchin.

Why Ukraine needs Russia more than ever

With country at risk of becoming a failed state, Kiev must recognise that economic survival depends on Moscow not the west. n January Ukraine’s president, Petro Poroshenko, congratulated the country on surviving its first winter without buying Russian gas. It had instead bought European gas which, as Poroshenko pointed out proudly, was 30% more expensive. This sums up the core problem facing the Ukrainian economy. It is not corruption, a serious issue about which little can be done in the short term, but the ideologically driven choice to sever all ties with Russia, the country that has historically been its major trading partner and chief investor. In little over a year, living standards in Ukraine have fallen by half, the currency has lost 350% of its value, and inflation has skyrocketed to 43%. Yet, even as the economy has collapsed, the government has insisted on economic policies that can only be termed suicidal. Economic minister's resignation plunges Ukraine into new crisis.
