France ready to facilitate preparation of decision on lifting anti-Russian sanctions

France is ready to facilitate the preparation of a decision on lifting anti-Russian sanctions which will be discussed at EU’s summit at the end of June or beginning of July, French Senate Speaker Gerard Larcher said on Tuesday. "The EU summit will take place at the end of June or beginning of July. The European Commission is currently working on this issue, and it will then make relevant proposals," Larcher said in response to a TASS question. "We have to prepare now as there is no certainty in saying that sanctions should continue. It is necessary to look for other solutions".

Russia calls EU sanctions against Libyan politicians counterproductive

The European Union’s decision to introduce personal sanctions against a range of Libyan politicians shows that the EU seeks to act in a unilateral order bypassing the United Nations Security Council, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday. "Moscow considers that the attempts to influence the situation in Libya by "punishing" Libyan politicians are counterproductive. Such an approach will hardly contribute to settling the Libyan domestic crisis," the ministry stressed. The move could lead to further differences and "deepening of the split on the Libyan political scene," the statement said.

Fighter jet that crashed near Aleppo belongs to Syrian Air Force

The fighter jet that crashed in Syria is a Su-22 of Syrian Air Force, a military-diplomatic source in Moscow told TASS on Tuesday. "The jet does not belong to Russian Aerospace Defense Forces. According to preliminary information, it was a Su-22 of Syrian Air Force," the source said. Videos were earlier posted to social networks that show a fighter jet crashing near Aleppo. Several media reported that Syrian opposition groups downed a fighter jet of Syrian Air Force when launching an offensive at government positions to the south of Aleppo. The Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian military aviation did not perform any tasks near Aleppo where the jet was downed.

Armenia reports 20 killed in Karabakh clashes. Azerbaijani army lost 300 servicemen in killed

At least 20 people were killed in Azerbaijan’s Armenian-populated breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh since the outbreak of combat clashes along the line of contact separating the Karabakh forces and the Azerbaijani army units, the Armenian Defense Ministry said quoting the Chief of Self-Defense Army Operations Staff, Col Viktor Arstamian. Another 72 people have been wounded and 26 are missing, he said. One of the dead is a child and three are peaceful civilians. Also, the Karabakh self-defense forces have lost seven tanks. 600 ISRAELI COMPANIES, 850 SHAREHOLDERS LISTED IN PANAMA DATA LEAK

Some 600 Israeli companies and 850 Israeli shareholders are listed in the 11.5 million documents leaked from a Panamanian law firm detailing offshore dealings. The trove was published Sunday after a year-long investigation into the material. According to the probe by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) with the German daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung and other media, including Haaretz, the leaked data from Mossack Fonseca, from 1975 to the end of last year, provides what the ICIJ described as a “never-before-seen view inside the offshore world.”

The Broken BBC From Public Service to Corporate Power

Where, then, did the resources of public service broadcasting go, and what happened at the end of the 1990s? In 1997, the BBC invested heavily in the newly created News24 Channel. In No News Is Bad News: Radio, Television and the Public (2014) Michael Bromley notes the corporation “was heavily criticized for the development and subsequent cost of BBC News 24, which is available 24 hours a day,” and which diverted funds and resources away from other, established channels and programs.2 But the cost and burden to the rest of the network is not the only issue. The evidence increasingly suggests that this investment signaled the BBC’s metamorphosis from a rounded, albeit unaccountable, public service provider, to a full-blown corporate state broadcaster and propagandist.

Hillary Clinton Says She Is Unaware Of Big Money That Oil And Gas Companies Have Given Her And Family Foundation

Hillary Clinton expressed surprise Wednesday when a voter at a town hall in Iowa demanded she stop taking money from the fossil fuel companies. “Well, I don't know that I ever have,” Clinton said. “I'm not exactly one of their favorites.”

The former secretary of state — who had been pressed on the same topic at an event this summer — made those comments despite her long history of accepting millions of dollars of campaign and philanthropic money from energy companies and lobbyists and in spite of her concurrent moves as a government official to help the fossil fuel industry. Indeed, while Clinton asserted this week in Iowa that she is “not in favor of drilling off our coasts,” as a senator, she broke with Democrats such as then-Sen. Barack Obama to vote to expand offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

How Süddeutsche Zeitung got the Panama leaks story

In an approach that echoed that of the whistleblower Edward Snowden, the source approached Süddeutsche Zeitung anonymously on the Internet with a vague, tantalizing promise of vast amounts of data.

The source insisted on using encrypted communications and that there be no meeting. The source’s life was in danger. “I want to make these crimes public,” the source said, when asked why they had come forward.

Over a period of months, the source provided 2.6 terabytes of data from Mossack Fonseca, a Panamanian law firm, providing a rare and extensive insight into the secretive world of offshore finance.

Süddeutsche Zeitung said it received 11.5 million documents dating back to the 1970s, made up of e-mails, PDF files, photographs and excerpts from an internal Mossack Fonseca database.

It was a trove that no newsroom on its own would be equipped to handle.

How Hillary Clinton Bought the Loyalty of 33 State Democratic Parties

Collusion between the Clinton campaign and the DNC allowed Hillary Clinton to buy the loyalty of 33 state Democratic parties last summer. Montana was one of those states. It sold itself for $64,100.

The Super Delegates now defying democracy with their insistent refusal to change their votes to Sanders in spite of a handful of overwhelming Clinton primary losses in their own states, were arguably part of that deal.

In August 2015, at the Democratic Party convention in Minneapolis, 33 democratic state parties made deals with the Hillary Clinton campaign and a joint fundraising entity called The Hillary Victory Fund. The deal allowed many of her core billionaire and inner circle individual donors to run the maximum amounts of money allowed through those state parties to the Hillary Victory Fund in New York and the DNC in Washington.

Follow the money: inside the world's tax havens

Do you celebrate Christmas? If you do (or even if you do not), did you buy any gifts on Amazon last December? If so, then your goods were quite likely to have been routed through a byzantine world hosted – only on paper, you understand – by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, where Amazon has located its European headquarters, slashing its tax bills around the world. In 2011, Amazon revealed that the US Internal Revenue Service was chasing it for $1.5bn in back taxes. More recently, Amazon has said it will stop routing its UK sales through Luxembourg.

Perhaps you shun Amazon. You buy only local products: good for you. But did you search for any gifts online? Did a company called Google play any role in this? In 2011, Google shuffled four-fifths of its profits through a subsidiary in the tax haven of Bermuda, cutting its worldwide tax rate in half and its tax rate in some countries to nearly zero.

THE FBI SAYS A PIECE OF CODE BROKE ITS FOIA SYSTEM

In February, activist Michael Best took a novel approach to filing a mass of Freedom of Information Act requests at once: he wrote a script to automatically ask for the files of just under 7,000 dead FBI officials.

The FBI has replied, and it is not happy. The agency has decided to not accept any of Best's related requests, and may have also blocked or otherwise filtered further emails sent to the agency's FOIA department by him. The episode shows that the way FOIAs are processed is very much an antiquated practice, and that perhaps US government agencies should think of new ways to handle requests.

Ted Cruz is not eligible to be President of the United States; The meaning of "Natural Born."

Raphael & Eleanor Cruz emigrated to Canada sometime in the early 1960s and in 1968 Mr. Cruz became a naturalized Canadian Citizen. It appears that Eleanor by virtue of her marriage also attained Citizenship one year later and Raphael Eduardo (Ted) Cruz was born December 22, 1970, to two parents who had lived in Canada, and had applied for and received Canadian citizenship under Canadian Immigration and Naturalization Laws. U.S. statutes would have voided the prior "green card" status which requires among other things, permanent residency within the United States and obviously, not becoming a citizen of another country during the time frame of the U.S. green card. In 1970, Canada did not recognize the concept of dual citizen. Hence Cruz is Canadian by birth, ONLY Canadian by birth, despite his parents' lineage! The fact that Ted Cruz claims to have renounced his Canadian citizenship proves this!

Fresno Police Department Denied Funding for Social Media Monitoring Tool

By Derrick Broze

The Fresno Police Department has lost a controversial tool that has been used to mine social media for information and assign a “threat score” to individuals based on an unknown set of criteria.

On March 31, the Fresno City Council voted 5 to 0 against entering a five-year, $132,000 contract with Intrado Inc., effectively ending funding for the controversial Beware program. Beware was first exposed in January 2016 in a report from the Washington Post which outlined a number of surveillance tools at the Fresno PD’s disposal. The tools are part of Fresno’s Real Time Crime Center, which the Post described as “a cutting-edge $600,000 nerve center” which “has become the model for high-tech policing nationwide. Similar centers have opened in New York, Houston and Seattle over the past decade.”...

President Poroshenko’s Offshore Tax Haven: Ukraine’s Largest Candy Business Moved to the British Virgin Islands

When Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko ran for the top office in 2014, he promised voters he would sell Roshen, Ukraine’s largest candy business, so he could devote his full attention to running the country.

“If I get elected, I will wipe the slate clean and sell the Roshen concern. As President of Ukraine I plan and commit to focus exclusively on welfare of the nation,” Poroshenko told the German newspaper Bild less than two months before the election.

Instead, actions by his financial advisers and Poroshenko himself, who is worth an estimated US$ 858 million, make it appear that the candy magnate was more concerned about his own welfare than his country’s – going so far as to arguably violate the law twice, misrepresent information and deprive his country of badly needed tax dollars during a time of war.

D.C. Madam's Attorney Says Election Bombshell Already Online

The colorful litigator who represented the late “D.C. madam” Deborah Palfrey and threatened this week to release call logs of his former client that he says are “very relevant” to the 2016 presidential election tells U.S. News those records already are digitized and posted online.

Montgomery Blair Sibley says the records will become public if he fails to reset a 72-hour countdown clock, which could cut short his soft two-week ultimatum for federal courts to consider lifting a 2007 gag order that covers the records, lest he deem that order void.

The countdown clock is a safeguard, Sibley says, that ensures that if he disappears the records will be published. Inevitable release, he says, may also disincentivize violent acts against him to prevent their disclosure.

No compromise with US over fate of Syria President Assad - senior Russian diplomat

He went on to explain that in Moscow’s view such an approach contradicts not only the Russian foreign policy doctrine, which does not accept any attempts to change political regimes in sovereign countries from abroad (so-called ‘color revolutions’), but also due to the fact that such demands deprive the political process of any prospects for success.

Saudis Retaliate To "Oil Freeze" Fallout: Ban Transport Of Iranian Crude In Territorial Waters

At first, when it announced the terms of its "oil freeze" agreement with Russia one month ago, Saudi Arabia seemed willing to grant Iran a temporary exemption from the supply freeze, at least until it recovers its pre-embargo production levels. That however changed on Friday when the country's Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, shocked Saudi Arabia's Arab allies in the Persian Gulf, telling Bloomberg his country would only join the freeze curbe Iran - and all other OPEC member nations - also joined.

Following the Friday announcement, yesterday Iran's oil minister Zangadeh made it clear that the country rejects Saudi demands, and would continue ramping up production at will, in the process making the April 17 Doha meeting meaningless.

Manufacturing Recession Deepens: Factory Orders Drop To Five Year Low; 16 Consecutive Declines

In 60 years, the US economy has not suffered a 16-month continuous YoY drop in Factory orders without being in recession. Moments ago the Department of Commerce confirmed that this is precisely what the US economy did, when factory orders not only dropped for the 16th consecutive month Y/Y, after declining 1.7% from last month...

... but at $454 billion for the headline number, this was the lowest print since the summer of 2011.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These are lousy numbers, and this contraction is a dangerous direction for the US economy.

A historian explains why Bernie Sanders is right about the 1933 Glass-Steagall Act

Both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are talking tough about Wall Street reform. But only Bernie Sanders is advocating a reprise of the 1933 Glass-Steagall Act, specifically that section of the Depression-era act that had prohibited commercial banks and investment banks from operating under the same roof. Sanders believes that the repeal of Glass-Steagall in 1999 led to the formation of banks that became “too big to fail,” contributed to the financial crisis in 2008—and will lead to another crisis without corrective legislation.

Encirclement of Russia: the War for Ngorno-Karabakh between Armenia and Azerbaijan

Plan U.S.A.?

Is it because Armenia refused to become a NATO base? According to the NATO website*** dated March 10, 2016 Armenia would be a basis for the establishment of partnerships. NATO would, therefore, try to support Armenia in its intent to keep Nagorno-Karabakh and to infiltrate the lines of Russian diplomacy?

NATO has, in any case, the desire to open a new front against Russia, since, according Azernews article dated as of March 10, 2016, as on the NATO website, we clearly see NATO’s attempts to obtain agreements with Armenia and Azerbaijan to encircle Russia. Azerbaijan, which has been trying for years to distance itself from Russia has finally agreed to become the NATO base against Armenia since 10 March 2016. Azerbaijan, as an ally to Turkey including on the Armenian genocide issue and as a NATO partner, would attack Armenia to injure an ally to Russia, which refused to support NATO%?

US Air Force Deploys F-15 Jets to Iceland, Netherlands - Reports

A dozen F-15 fighters and some 350 air force personnel were sent to the region on Friday, set to support NATO surveillance missions and conduct training, the CNN reported.
Air force units from the Massachusetts' 131st Fighter Squadron and California's 194th Fighter Squadron have been stationed at an Iceland Cold War-era airbase that had been defunct since 2006, according to the broadcaster.
The move follows the February US Air Force announcement of plans to deploy six F-15 fighters to Finland in spring. The jets, which are reportedly to be stationed some 100 kilometers (60 miles) from the Russian border, have been deployed as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve in response to alleged Russian interference in the Ukrainian conflict.

Webmaster's Commentary:

WHAT "...alleged Russian interference in the Ukrainian conflict."?!?!?

Where is the proof?!?

And the short answer here is, there is no proof of these allegations; otherwise, the US government would be shouting from the rooftops with (non-photoshopped) pictures of this alleged behaviour.

These allegations have nothing to do with Russia, and everything to do with justifying pre-positioning more US military hardware in and around Europe for a coming war against Russia.

Growing Provocation: US to Hold New Military Drills Near South China Sea

The US Navy reportedly plans to hold naval exercises not far from the disputed islands in the South China Sea in early April.

Chinese dredging vessels are purportedly seen in the waters around Fiery Cross Reef in the disputed Spratly Islands in the South China Sea in this still file image from video taken by a P-8A Poseidon surveillance aircraft provided by the United States Navy

This information appeared shortly after a conversation between Xi Jinping and Barack Obama, during which the Chinese leader warned other countries on the actions that could harm China's sovereignty.
Tensions continue to mount between the US and China with an escalation of aggressive posturing on both sides.

When exactly the military drills will begin and what ships will take part in it has yet to be reported. China has territorial disputes with countries such as Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US government does appear to be hell-bent on provoking China into a war it cannot win.

And I say that, because at this point in its history, the US military doesn't have the weaponry, the troop strength, the manufacturing, or the money to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war with China.

Unfortunately, just because something is the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing for the US government to possibly do is absolutely no guarantee that it will not do it.

Ceasefire Fails to Take Hold, Nagorno-Karabakh Fighting Rages

Heavy fighting in disputed Nagorno-Karabakh on Friday night and into Saturday left at least 33 people dead, including 18 Armenian and 12 Azerbaijani soldiers. The fighting was the worst since 1994’s ceasefire, and despite Azeri calls for a unilateral truce, fighting is continuing throughout the weekend.

Both sides are blaming the other for starting this latest dust-up, with Azerbaijan reporting shelling from the region hitting their border villages, and Armenia claiming Azerbaijan just attacked for no reason. Either way, Azerbaijan fairly quickly gained some advantage, and took part of the region back under control.

This is complicating the ceasefire push, for while the international community is backing the notion of ending the battle, pro-Armenia forces within Nagorno-Karabakh are insisting they would only accept a ceasefire that returned all lost territory back to them.

Poroshenko: US has reiterated commitment to extend $335mln to enhance Ukraine’s security

The United States has reiterated its commitment to extend a sum of 335 million U.S. dollars to Ukraine to enhance its defense and security system, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on Sunday.
"The sum of 335 million U.S. dollars will go to finance the defense and security sector, to purchase new equipment and weapons, to train personnel," he told Ukrainian journalists after his visit to Washington.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, let me get this straight; at a point in time when the US government is drowning in debt (19 trillion dollars that we know of); when homeless Vets are sleeping in our streets, and the American infrastructure is crumbling, the US government is ready to shell out three hundred thirty five million dollars to this tin pot dictator, which will most assuredly line his, or his cronies' pockets, and not see one piece of good happen for the Ukrainian people?!?

IF in fact what Poroshenko is saying is true, it is yet one more assault on We the People by a US government gone collectively barking mad.
