There is revolution brewing in Europe. The native European population is tired of being ignored. Hillary, Baltics Screaming 'The Russians Are Coming!' - Actually They're Leaving

Russia has absolutely zero soft power in the Baltics. If the bulk of humanity there is waving foreign flags, it’s the stars and stripes, not the red, white and blue of the Russian Federation by a long shot. Yet, we are told that the Russians are coming... I was in Lithuania for a week in September. People between the ages of 25 and 70 all had something lousy to say about the Russian government. They didn’t like it. The older ones believed Russia could invade, just like Americans believed the Russians would do in the 1980s. They never came into Alaska. I’m betting they never make it to Riga, either. Using the largest and most populous of the threesome, Lithuania, I can tell you there is no RT influencing the populous to Putin’s world view. RT is merely a program on ViaSat, the Swedish owned satellite TV provider. Lithuania cable does not allow for RT. I don’t know if that is true in Latvia or Estonia...

New York Times vents recriminations over Syria debacle

The offensive of Syrian government forces, backed by Russian air strikes, has cut off the main supply route for Western-backed “rebels” and is apparently poised to deal them a decisive blow in Aleppo, Syria’s largest city. This situation is provoking increasingly bitter recriminations within Washington and its vast military and intelligence apparatus over the debacle of the US regime-change operation.

Fusion Center Issues New Statement on Its Warning That Police Should Watch Out for Don't-Tread-on-Me Flags

Today the Utah Statewide Information and Analysis Center, a "fusion center" partly funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, responded to the controversy over a bulletin it sent to law enforcement officers last week.

The bulletin, which was first covered here at Reason, had been distributed in anticipation of last Friday's funeral for LaVoy Finicum, the rancher killed during the occupation of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge in Oregon. The document warned that "[c]aravans of individuals traveling to the funeral services may be comprised of one or more armed extremists," and it displayed several "visual indicators" that an officer might be dealing with "extremist and disaffected individuals." These images ranged from the Gadsden flag (a popular patriotic symbol featuring a rattlesnake and the slogan "Don't Tread on Me") to an altered version of the skull-and-lightning-bolt logo favored by fans of the Grateful Dead.

Cop Says Kids Who Take Nude Selfies Are Sex Criminals, Not Victims

The latest sexting scandal comes to us from Peters Middle School outside of Pittsburgh, where police are examining kids’ cell phones for nude photos.

Why? Seriously: Why? It sounds like a giant swath of middle school kids and teens have naked pictures of themselves and others on their phones. Naked selfies are a bad idea, to be sure, but why on earth should the police should the police be investigating or prosecuting them?

Webmaster's Commentary:

Would you rather the kids do "you show me yours and I'll show you mine" in person, risking sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy? Doing it over the cell phones is SAFER!

Russian community in Latvia erodes

Do the Latvian authorities intend to close all Russian schools in the country? Who can defend the rights of the Russian-speaking population in the Baltic country? Today, the Russian language has the status of a foreign language in Latvia, even though 37.2 percent of the population speak Russian at home, a population census said. Yet, there are incidents when doctors, for example, refuse to speak Russian to patients... Ultranationalists aim to completely eliminate education in the Russian language by 2018. To date, the language proportion in the country is 60x40, in which 60 percent stands for education in Latvian, and 40 - for education in Russian. For the Russian-speaking people, Latvia's incorporation in the EU has led to bigger problems. The Baltic ethnocrats received immunity for violating the rights of the Russian-speaking population.

The contingent, which is to set off to the Syrian Arab Republic in the nearest future to fight the IS fighters, will consist of 150,000 military men from such countries as Kuwait, the Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Morocco, and Bahrein. Pentagon perplexed how to resist Russia: We are a global threat to it

As presenting the Pentagon's budget (total sum of planned expenditures equals to $582.7 bln), Kendall claimed that the spending is substantiated given necessity to withstand these five factors, which pose a threat to the US security.

Merkel meets more often with Turkish rather than German officials

The Politico newspaper noted that Angela Merkel spends her time in vain when she carries on negotiations with Turkey. Turkey, in its turn, very skilfully makes use of Merkel's attention and works a panhandle on her, as 3 billion dollars which Europe allocated to restrain refugees, turned out to be insufficient. To all appearances, Angela Merkel has extensive plans and high expectations of Turkey concerning the restrain of refugees influx into Europe. Merkel tried desperately to find a quick way out of the crisis, repulsing attacks of the German populists, Politico wrote. The German media took to making fun of the Chancellor, as she meets more often with the Turkish ministers than the German ones. Constant trips to Ankara won't substitute a government program on fight against crisis, which is still absent, Vice-President of the European Parliament Alexander Graf Lambsdorff claimed.

Sadly for Canada, it's not only raining, it's pouring for the country's energy industry, a downpour which is about to migrate into its banking sector. The following chart from an analysis by RBC shows that when compared to US banks' (artificially low) reserves for oil and gas exposure, Canadian banks are...not.

Syrian forces advancing at last militant stronghold north of Aleppo

Syrian forces are attacking positions of armed groups on the approaches to the village of Tell Rifaat - the last militants’ stronghold to the north of Aleppo (360 kilometers from capital Damscus). What is the relationship between the neocon think tanks, the mainstream media, the military-industrial complex, and Congress? They all conspire to create constant new threats to justify enormous military spending that is running the economy into the ground.

Flow of migrants through Russia's Arctic doubles over ten days

The number of migrants transiting Russia’s Murmansk Region, in the Arctic, has doubled over the past ten days, the head of the Kandalaksha District’s administration, Andrey Ivanov, has told TASS, adding that about two hundred migrants were permanently present in Kandalaksha. The refugees now take up two hotels in Kandlaksha. Both hotels are overcrowded. New arrivals have to turn to private households for accommodation. The residents are unhappy about this and negative remarks addressed to migrants are frequent in the social networks. There have been no firm resistance or protests against migrants, though. But if the number of migrants keeps growing, the district may experience serious problems. Syrians among the migrants are rare. Kandalaksha is a transit point for migrants from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Palestine, Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, Egypt, Yemen, Congo, Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia and other countries. The change in the ethnic composition occurred last November.

Macy's isn't the only store taking a hit in a rapidly changing retail world.

They're also choosing stores that can turn around stylish merchandise fast and favoring specialty merchandise such as comfortable and stylish athletic gear. The shift is making business challenging for some traditional retailers. Even as stores typically on solid footing, including Macy's and Nordstrom, have scrambled to keep up with the shift in shopping habits, they're finding it difficult to maintain an edge.

The TPP If Ratified: Corporations Will Overturn U.S. Laws, Speed up Destruction of the Environment, Outsource Jobs…

In fact, the TPP is almost entirely ignored and avoided. When it’s mentioned it’s as something our authoritarian government knows better how to handle than we do. Its defenders, including President Barack Obama, present it as a way to jab a finger in China’s eye. Its opponents argue that it attacks U.S. sovereignty and benefits foreign nations. What, if anything, it does to Vietnamese workers, for example, is just not registering, and the idea of a U.S. billionaire in 2016 bringing that to public attention as a moral concern would get you mocked as a dreamer faster than Hillary Clinton changes positions when a check book is opened.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What this agreement does is corporatize government, period, end of discussion.

It should be peacefully protested by the American people, who will wind up losing jobs, and whatever rights we may still have left, under the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

IF you understand that the US has already become a third world nation, particularly, in older, urban areas, where jobs have been outsourced/offshored in earnest, the ratification of the TTP will make it far worse!!

Careening to the Finish in New Hampshire

There’s a quirk in New Hampshire’s primary process that could prove important. Voters who aren’t registered with either party—about 40 percent of the state’s electorate—can choose which race they want to vote in. Twenty-three percent of voters in New Hampshire had not made up their mind on whether they’ll cast their votes in the Democratic or Republican primaries, according to a WBUR poll taken from February 2-4.

“A Special Place in Hell”… For Hillary Clinton and Madeleine Albright?

As UN Ambassador and the Secretary of State in the Bill Clinton regime, Albright was a fanatical advocate of the genocidal sanctions blockade that killed more than a million women, children and men in Iraq, and of the 1999 U.S./NATO bombing war against Yugoslavia.

On May 12, 1996, nearly six years into the U.S./UN sanctions, Albright was interviewed on CBS “60 Minutes” by Lesley Stahl, who had just returned from Iraq, about the impact on the Iraqi population:

Lesley Stahl: “We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that’s more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?”

U.S. Ambassador to the UN Madeleine Albright: “I think this is a very hard choice, but the price–we think the price is worth it.”

Russia is today expanding its boundaries?

It has been scientifically designed to increase the requirements of the territory belonging to Russia for about a million and 200,000 square kilometers within the city triangle Murmansk - North Pole - Chukchi Peninsula. It is expected that the merger of the territory bands increase by five billion tons of potential reserves of Russian hydrocarbons.

According to international regulations, the coastal country has the right to exploit resources on the shelf in a distance of 200 nautical miles from the mainland, in special cases - up to 350 miles. Russia in 2001 addressed the UN expert commission with a request to extend the territory of its continental shelf, and presented evidence that the so-called underwater Lomonosov ridge, which they discovered Soviet researchers in 1948, the continuation of the Eurasian continent, which would mean that the limit of 350 miles does not apply to Russia.

Entering the Belly of the Epocalypse

Only a couple of weeks ago, I said we were entering the jaws of the Epocalypse. Now we are sliding rapidly down the great beast’s throat toward its cavernous belly. The biggest economic collapse the world has ever seen is consuming everything — all commodities, all industries, all national economies, all monetary systems, and eventually all peace and stability. This is the mother of all recessions.

Past American appeals to Russia haven’t stopped it from aggressively escalating its support for the Syrian regime. | AP PhotoRussians lay siege to Obama's Syria strategy

As Russian-backed troops encircle the key rebel stronghold of Aleppo in Syria — a potential turning point in the Arab state’s nearly five-year-old conflict — President Barack Obama’s diplomacy-first approach is also coming under siege.
Some opposition leaders and analysts are warning that unless Obama sends a tough message to Russian President Vladimir Putin — possibly even using military force — the Moscow-supported regime of Bashar Assad will weaken the opposition so badly that peace talks being promoted by the United States will become irrelevant.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In the most deliciously ironic way possible, you have to love the title of this article, and how it appears to be deliberately "grooming" Americans for a war with Russia.

Thank you, Ms. Toosi, the writer of this completely disingenuous piece of codswallop, but no.

I have noticed in your bio from politico.com that you "reported" on the following:

Nahal Toosi is a foreign affairs correspondent at POLITICO. She joined POLITICO from The Associated Press, where she reported from and/or served as an editor in New York, Islamabad, Kabul and London. She was one of the first foreign correspondents to reach Abbottabad, Pakistan, after the killing of Osama bin Laden. Read more: http://www.politico.com/staff/nahal-toosi#ixzz3zhH4dbGH

However, people know that Osama bin Laden died of natural causes in the winter of 2001.

Usama bin Laden has died a peaceful death due to an untreated lung complication, the Pakistan Observer reported, citing a Taliban leader who allegedly attended the funeral of the Al Qaeda leader. "The Coalition troops are engaged in a mad search operation but they would never be able to fulfill their cherished goal of getting Usama alive or dead," the source said. Bin Laden, according to the source, was suffering from a serious lung complication and succumbed to the disease in mid-December, in the vicinity of the Tora Bora mountains. The source claimed that bin Laden was laid to rest honorably in his last abode and his grave was made as per his Wahabi belief.

Here is the narrative of the guy who got assassinated in Abbottabad, as reported at whatreallyhappened.com:

What appears to have happened is that President Obama tried to steal the Pakistanis' thunder by sending in the SEAL team to capture the body, then claim victory for the US. But as the "victory" was leaked to the press, word finally reached the White House from Abbotabad that the dead man wasn't the real Osama Bin Laden (who had died of Marfan Syndrome in December of 2001), so the body was dumped into the ocean and a flurry of hastily made (and very sloppy) fake photos leaked to the internet and members of Congress to cover up the latest monumental goof!

So, congratulations, my dear Ms. Toosi, you have just been outed as a lying whorespondent, selling the narrative of empire to a war weary and war-skeptical America.

I hope those big checks are a real salve to your professional conscience; or, perchance, have you had that surgically removed, as have so many of your colleagues?

Let me go on record saying that I do not like Basshar al Assad.

But at the end of the day, when most of the jihadis are removed, through Russian help, it is the Syrian people, and the Syrian people only, who have the right to chose their own destiny.

And I would like, as a final note, to remind you, Ms. Toosi, that during the last election in Syria, with monitors watching every voting precinct, in what was declared a free and fair election, Al-Assad won re-election in a landslide against his competition.

“Alarming Levels of Radioactivity” Detected in NY Power Plant

By now, the average American has no excuse for not knowing how decrepit our infrastructure has become. Many of our roads, bridges, and dams are falling apart, and continue to be used long after their expected lifespan has expired. When any of these structures fail, you can expect plenty of casualties and mayhem.

But there’s only so much damage that a crumbling dam or bridge can do. The most frightening aspect of our infrastructure, is our electrical grid. Specifically, our nuclear power plants. If anything ever happened to those facilities, it would make any other infrastructure related disaster pale in comparison. And unfortunately, we may have just received a small taste of what that disaster might look like. A nuclear reactor was just shut down in New York, after a monitoring well detected a 65,000% increase in radiation levels.

The British Army is to deploy 1,600 troops in Jordan to take part in war games as preparation for a potential ‘confrontation’ between Russia and NATO member countries in Eastern Europe, the Daily Telegraph has reported citing sources.
Army sources told the paper that the exercise, which will simulate an Iraq invasion for the first time in over a decade, is not a prelude to sending ground troops to fight Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS, ISIL), rather Exercise Shamal Storm could be seen as a practice routine to fight off any potential Russian invasion of Ukraine or Eastern Europe.
“This isn’t a counter-Isil exercise. If anything, this is much more about us being prepared to join the US in Ukraine than it is in Syria,”
a source said as cited by the Daily Telegraph, adding, “This is not the sort of kind of force you expect to roll into Aleppo to take on a bunch of jihadists.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Has the leadership of NATO, the US, and the UK collectively gone absolutely, thoroughly, barking mad?!?

Russia is not going to invade either Eastern Europe, or Ukraine.

And Ukraine is so economically ruined, courtesy of the recent putsch, and the rampant corruption which followed, that it might be forced to get down on its knees and beg Russia for some economic help.

But unfortunately, as the great American comic, Ron White, says in his act so frequently, "You can't fix stupid".

And we have a lot of stupidity going on in the bowels of power in the US, NATO, and Europe.

The US economy is on the ropes, as is the economy of Europe.

And the civilian and military leadership of both of those entities have imbibed enough of their own "koolaid" to believe that a war with Russia will solve all if their economic problems.

After all, it worked for the US in World Wars I and II, right?!?!?

But there is one small problem with this grotesque "groupthink": The US and NATO do not have the troop strength, the weapons, the money, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a war against Russia; this is what makes the military scenario here so dangerously scary.

Were I in the bowels of power in NATO, the US, or Europe, I would be looking at trust and trade building actions relative to Russia; not warmongering and threatening.

Of course, that...would be logical.

New Hampshire Election Fraud Prediction

If the hypothetical fixers in the GOP establishment can fix New Hampshire, they have a big decision to make about how far to go. If they don’t fix the race, or they fix it only a little, Trump will win big and he might be unstoppable. You can’t have that if you are the establishment fixers.

But after Iowa, lots of folks are watching for irregularities. And after Rubio’s recent debate failure, there is no natural reason to expect Rubio (the establishment’s candidate) to have another “surprise” surge as he did in Iowa. That would be too obvious. So the fixers (if such people exist) can either lose the White House or risk getting caught by making too large a fix. Which way would they go?

Not only has free speech become a four-letter word - profane, obscene, uncouth, not to be uttered in so-called public places - but in more and more cases, the government deems free speech to be downright dangerous and in some instances illegal.

The U.S. government has become particularly intolerant of speech that challenges the government’s power, reveals the government’s corruption, exposes the government’s lies, and encourages the citizenry to push back against the government’s many injustices.

Indeed, there is a long and growing list of the kinds of speech that the government considers dangerous enough to red flag and subject to censorship, surveillance, investigation and prosecution: hate speech, bullying speech, intolerant speech, conspiratorial speech, treasonous speech, threatening speech, incendiary speech, inflammatory speech, radical speech, anti-government speech, right-wing speech, extremist speech, etc.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As a Christian pacifist who never advocates violence, but advocates for good faith negotiations and logic as most generally the best answers to geopolitical problems, even I could be arrested, under the NDAA, and thrown into prison indefinitely, with no due process whatsoever.

I have to wonder what the founding Fathers - and the women who loved them, like Abigail Adams, the wife of John Adams - would think about that.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened to “put refugees on buses” and flood Europe with migrants if EU leaders did not offer him enough cash to help curb the influx of asylum seekers, a leaked record of a high-level meeting claims.

"We can open the doors to Greece and Bulgaria anytime and we can put the refugees on buses,” Erdogan was quoted as telling European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and European Council President Donald Tusk after being told that the EU was offering Turkey €3 billion over two years.

The minutes of the meeting that apparently took place in November in Antalya have been published by the Greek financial news website euro2day.gr

After Tusk mentioned the difficult situation in the European Union, Erdogan, who reportedly demanded €6 billion over two years, said: “So how will you deal with refugees if you don't get a deal? Kill the refugees?"

And that... is the truth.

Cops Recording Your Every Move For 10 Weeks Doesn't Violate The Constitution

A federal appeals court on Monday ruled it is not unconstitutional for law enforcement to set up a camera on a public utility pole and record a suspect's moves for 10 weeks straight.

Such warrantless recording is permitted, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit said, because people have "no reasonable expectation of privacy in video footage recorded by a camera that was located on top of a public utility pole and that captured the same views enjoyed by passersby on public roads."

The ruling stemmed in part from a nasty, years-long confrontation between two Tennessee brothers and local police -- long-simmering bad blood that led to shootouts, officer deaths and ultimately a criminal trial that ended in acquittals for the brothers.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Apparently, according to current judicial rulings, Americans have no right of privacy...ANYWHERE.

FLASHBACK - Ted Cruz is not eligible to be President of the United States; The meaning of "Natural Born."

Ted Cruz's supporters try to get around "Natural Born" by claiming it simply means any US citizen, an opinion even echoed at Wikipedia!

But if any US citizen could be President, then the qualifier "Natural Born" would not be needed (and is not present in the Constitutional citizenship requirements for Representatives and Senators). Clearly, to the Founding Fathers, "Natural Born" had a specific and obvious meaning, applied exclusively to the Presidency!

The Founding Fathers did not need to define what "Natural Born" meant inside the Constitution as it had been defined in existing legal theory in works such as "The Law of Nations" by Emerich de Vattel, published in 1758 and relied on heavily by the framers of the Constitution. "Natural Born" was already legally defined when the Constitution was written as "born inside the nation."

Well, once again, as in 2008, the Iowa Caucus was not the coronation that she and her supporters thought it was going to be.

Nominal Democrat presidential "frontrunner" Hillary Clinton barely made it out of the nation's first caucus as the technical victor (though the campaign her main opponent, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., has contested those results), leaving many to wonder if she's got the mojo in 2016 that she lacked in 2008 when she was younger and less scandal-plagued in her loss to a relatively unknown U.S. senator from Illinois.

Asian markets: Japan's Nikkei down more than 5% following weak close on Wall Street

While China, Hong Kong, South Korea among other markets remained closed for the Lunar New Year holiday, remaining stock exchanges in Asia were trading lower on 9 February. This followed a negative Wall Street and FTSE close overnight.

Fears over a sell-off in the European banking sector gathered pace overnight after Stoxx Europe 600 Banks Index – the gauge of the banking sector in Europe – recorded its sixth consecutive weekly decline, the worst streak since 2008. Worried investors as a result pulled out of Asian stock markets in search for safer havens.

FLASHBACK 1998 - UK: 'Serpico' claims Scotland Yard elite ran drug cartel

DRUG rackets worth millions of pounds were run from inside Britain's biggest police force, according to a former Scotland Yard detective who is to publish his allegations.

The officer, dubbed "Serpico" by friends after the New York police officer who was pilloried for exposing corruption, described sections of the drug squad and the regional crime squad at Scotland Yard as the "most professional criminal cartels in Britain". He is writing a book in which he alleges that officers stole drugs, paid phantom informants and fabricated evidence.

Duncan MacLaughlin, a detective for 18 years, is believed to be the first officer to talk openly about alleged corruption within the elite squads in which he worked.

The Saudi-backed Syrian opposition says Russia should immediately stop its anti-terror airstrikes on militant-held areas as a condition for its participation in peace talks with the Damascus government.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The "Syrian" nudge, nudge, wink, wink, opposition sets a pre-condition to the continuation of peace talks...that Russia must stop bombing the terrorists!

Sleep deprivation may lead to false confessions

It may be hard to imagine why an innocent person would confess to a crime they didn't commit, but a number of notorious court cases have shown that it can and does happen.

Now new research suggests that people who are sleep deprived are more likely to sign false confessions than those who are well rested.
