‘Terminator will never march down Champs-Elysees’: French defense minister against deploying ‘killer robots’ in combat

French Defense Minister Florence Parly insisted in an op-ed that the country would not allow advance military AIs to become fully automatic and end up making life-and-death decisions without human input.

Parly came out strongly against “lethal autonomous weapon systems that some call ‘killer robots’” in an opinion piece published by Defense News.

She said France “refuses to entrust the decision of life or death to a machine that would act fully autonomously and escape any form of human control,” and will not send such machines into combat.

Avast and AVG Firefox Extensions Pulled from Mozilla Addons Site

While these extensions certainly appear useful, security researcher Wladimir Palant reported that these extensions are sending a large amount of tracking data about a user's browsing habits to https://uib.ff.avast.com/v5/urlinfo.

This data includes the URL visited, page title, the referer, your OS version, a unique user identifier, your country code, whether you previously visited the page, and other information. With the large amount of info being sent, Palant is concerned that the security companies could use this information to reconstruct a user's browsing history.

A Clear Signal Of Climate Fraud

For the past 130 years, Colorado’s official record maximum temperature was 118 degrees on July 18, 1888 at Bennett.

The state climatologist has erased that, and replaced it with a 115 degree reading from July 20 this year. He said the weather is a clear signal of climate change.

The claim is that John Martin Reservoir, east of Las Animas, Colorado was 115 degrees on July 20, 2019. The 115 reading does not appear credible, because there is a USHCN station at Las Animas, which recorded only 107 degrees that day.

Las Animas has had 424 days over 105F since 1895, and this year’s peak of 107F was fairly average and nowhere near a record.

There is no reason to believe the 115 degree reading is legitimate, or that the 1888 record should be erased, but climate alarmists know they can rewrite history with impunity – because no one in the press will dare question the climate religion. They now take perfectly ordinary weather events, and turn them into all-time records.

Deadly winter storm continues to blast Northeast as schools are closed and flights are canceled from coast-to-coast and the entire country reels from days of heavy rain, snowfall and high winds

A blizzard-like blast from a deadly storm that has been raging across the United States since before Thanksgiving slammed the Northeast on Monday and is forecast to linger in parts until at least Wednesday.

The storm system has been dubbed Winter Storm Ezekiel by the Weather Channel and will barrel into 30 states through Tuesday. More than a foot has already fallen in Massachusetts, upstate New York and Vermont.

It is expected to linger in New York until just before sunrise on Tuesday, in Boston until early Tuesday afternoon and in Maine into Wednesday morning.

The bad weather has already forced the closure of schools and resulted in canceled flights from the East to West coast as the entire country reels from days of heavy rain, snowfall and high winds.

"Grab Some Red Bull & Code": Israel's Bizarre Appeal For A 'Worldwide Hackathon' To Free Iran

"This is going to sound insane," Israeli Defense Minister Naftali Bennett introduces during a social media message on Iran published Saturday. He explains that Iran blocked internet access after mass anti-government and economic grievance-driven protests spread to some 100 cities over the past weeks.

"Most social media sites in Iran are still banned as we speak," he notes, while also describing a typical young Iranian's frustration at being prevented from logging in. He then calls for a all programmers and techies to unite for a “worldwide hackathon” to free the Iranians from their regime-imposed internet ban.

“So, here is a crazy idea. How about every techie in the world — Israelis, Arabs, Iranians, Americans, Europeans and everyone else unite for one purpose: to help the long-suffering Iranian people gain open access to all social media. A worldwide hackathon for freedom,” Bennet says.

Webmaster's Commentary:

To Israeli Defense Minister Naftali Bennett, a word, please; this not only sounds insane; it is insane.

What if critical hacks interrupt the work of medical devices in hospitals, and people die from this?!? Because if something like this happens negatively, as a result of these hacks, you have already stated that Israel will be the miscreant Middle-Eastern meddler who brought this about.

How much misery do you intend to cause the people of Iran, just because you don't like it's leadership?!?!?

Sir, you have just telegraphed what certain IT people in Israel and beyond may be prepared to do to bring Tehran down; I would like to politely suggest that Iran has some very excellent coders as well, and that such a hack will be ultimately repulsed by some very smart Iranians.

Heavy Gunfire Erupts as DR Congo's Anti-UN Protests Continue

TEHRAN (FNA)- Gunfire rang out in the DR Congo town of Beni on Monday as protesters demanding the United Nations' withdrawal from the city again marched towards the UN headquarters.
Security forces blocked hundreds of demonstrators attempting to get close to the UN compound housed inside the airport near Beni, one of two UN bases in the area, Al-Jazeera reported.

"We still have heavy gunfire here and local sources are confirming the deaths of two people, including a young boy and a woman," said Al-Jazeera's Alain Uaykani, reporting from Beni, quoting officials from the hospital where the bodies were taken.

"They are saying they don't feel safe and the UN has to leave. They say they will not stop protesting until the UN leaves this area," Uaykani added.

Anger erupted last week over the perceived failure of UN peacekeepers to protect civilians from deadly rebel attacks with several mass demonstrations targeting UN facilities in Northeastern f(DRC).

Webmaster's Commentary:

Tehran Wants to Sue US $130bln for Civil Unrest in Iran - Court Authorities

Protests erupted in several of Iran's provinces in November, following the government’s decision to increase the price of gasoline, with some of the rallies turning violent.

Tehran wants to sue the US for $130bln for civil unrest in the country, according to Iranian judicial spokesman Golyamkhosein Esmaily.

Golyamkhosein Esmaily said that the lawsuits and complaints were filed by Iranian citizens who directly suffered damage from "US actions."

Legal reckoning: New abuse suits could cost church over $4B

At the end of another long day trying to sign up new clients accusing the Roman Catholic Church of sexual abuse, lawyer Adam Slater gazes out the window of his high-rise Manhattan office at one of the great symbols of the church, St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

“I wonder how much that’s worth?” he muses.

Full Coverage: The Reckoning

Across the country, attorneys like Slater are scrambling to file a new wave of lawsuits alleging sexual abuse by clergy, thanks to rules enacted in 15 states that extend or suspend the statute of limitations to allow claims stretching back decades. Associated Press reporting found the deluge of suits could surpass anything the nation’s clergy sexual abuse crisis has seen before, with potentially more than 5,000 new cases and payouts topping $4 billion.

Webmaster's Commentary:

(Sigh) Pope Francis, a word, please: there is an institutional, and cultural illness in the church, and if you don't work to fix it on your watch, the Catholic church may wind up entirely bankrupt.

The potential cure for this problem?!?

Hire happily married men and women into service as priests. There is no better advert for a church, than seeing it produce happy families, and kids who are well-adjusted, and go on to do great things for society as a whole.

You are welcome, Your Holiness!! :-)

Data on your spending habits could be a gold mine for banks

NEW YORK - There’s a powerful new player watching what you buy so it can tailor product offerings for you: the bank behind your credit or debit card.

For years, Google and Facebook have been showing ads based on your online behavior. Retailers from Amazon to Walgreens also regularly suction up your transaction history to steer future spending and hold your loyalty.

Now banks, too, want to turn data they already have on your spending habits into extra revenue by identifying likely customers for retailers. Banks are increasingly aware that they could be sitting on a gold mine of information that can be used to predict — or sway — where you spend. Historically, such data has been used mostly for fraud protection.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF there are no privacy laws on the books, nationally, against this, there should be.

I know, for example, if I look at a website which features some items I might buy in the future, those ads start appearing in other blogs in a very invasive way, disruptive way, which I dislike intensely.

North Korea warns US will choose its 'Christmas gift' if Trump fails to meet looming nuclear deadline

The North Korean foreign ministry said on Tuesday that Washington would decide what “Christmas gift” it would receive if the United States fails to change its “hostile policies” on denuclearization before the end of the year, according to the state-run Korean Central News Agency.

North Korea has been ramping up missile tests and other military demonstrations in recent months in an apparent pressure tactic over the talks. Negotiations have faltered since a February summit between Kim Jong-un and Trump in Vietnam which broke down after the U.S. rejected North Korean demands for broad sanctions relief in exchange for a partial surrender of its nuclear capabilities.

Kim later issued his end-of-year deadline and has also said the North would seek a “new path” if the U.S. persists with sanctions and pressure. Working-level talks last month in Sweden broke down over what the North Koreans described as the Americans’ “old stance and attitude.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The problem here is, zero "quid pro quo", which translates as "Let me give a little, then you give a little, toward creating a win/win situation."

But none of that has been displayed by those in the bowels of power in DC, and the never-ending, clanging leitmotif of "Give us everything we want now, and perhaps, MAYBE, down the road, we will do something you would like us to do!!", is what the US government characterizes as "good faith negotiations."

That complete absence of "quid pro quo" in the US's dealings with North Korea, unfortunately, has brought us to this very nasty, and potentially militarily, volatile chapter in US/North Korean relations.

The War against Syria: In the Name of the Father the Son, the Holy Spirit … and the Truth.

So,why is the Truth not known and accepted by broad-based Western populations?

Renowned author Michel Collon demonstrates the characteristics of war propaganda that deny us the right to know.

First, the real interests that push for war must be hidden. Privileged access to and control of resources, including oil pipelines, must not be mentioned.

Second, history must be erased. People musn’t be aware of the longstanding imperial efforts to divide, weaken, and colonize Syria. They must not know that the war on Syria was planned well in advance by imperial powers.

Third, the leader of the country must be demonized. People must never know that elected President Assad has always been popular, even according to a NATO poll,(2) and that the invading terrorists were never accepted nor welcomed by the vast majority of Syrians.

Betraying the US Constitution: Who Will Protect Us from an Unpatriotic Patriot Act?

while Americans have been fixated on the carefully orchestrated impeachment drama that continues to monopolize headlines, Congress passed and President Trump signed into law legislation extending three key provisions of the USA Patriot Act, which had been set to expire on December 15, 2019.

Once again, to no one’s surprise, the bureaucrats on both sides of the aisle—Democrats and Republicans alike—prioritized political grandstanding over principle and their oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution.

Spending bill or not, it didn’t have to shake down this way, even with the threat of yet another government shutdown looming.

Congress could have voted to separate the Patriot Act extension from the funding bill, as suggested by Rep. Justin Amash, but that didn’t fly. Instead as journalist Norman Solomon writes for Salon, “The cave-in was another bow to normalizing the U.S. government’s mass surveillance powers.”

Gorbachev warns of 'hot war' between US, Russia

Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev warned in a new interview that tensions between the U.S. and Russia could lead to a “hot war” between the two nations.

Asked whether the tensions threatened to lead to a new era akin to the Cold War, Gorbachev told CNN, “I think this should be avoided.”

"It's good that already all over the world there is a conversation and people are talking, people are reacting, and this is the most important thing,” Gorbachev said.

"Speakers and politicians, people understand that this, the New Cold War, must not be allowed. This might turn out to be a hot war that could mean the destruction of our entire civilization," he added.

"This must not be allowed.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

The man is entirely correct in his assessment; a shooting war with Russia would be one of the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing this government could do.

And unfortunately, the above is utterly no guarantee that it will not do just that.

Pompeo Faults Iran as ‘Common Villain’ in All Mideast Protests

But while it’s fair to say Iran is involved in the Iran protests, if not the way Pompeo presents it, and tangentially involved in Iraq, opposing the protesters, Pompeo’s attempt to tie Iran to the Lebanon protests is plainly untrue.

Lebanon’s protest of the past month has seen protesters faulting the government for its inability to handle economic struggles, and chiefly the government’s inability to reliably provide electricity across the country.

Pompeo said Lebanese protesters “want Hezbollah and Iran out of their country,” which is simply not true. Indeed, the only politician that suffered from the protest movement was Prime Minister Hariri, a long-time political rival of Hezbollah.

In all three countries, the protests have been non-sectarian in nature, and despite Pompeo’s claims to the contrary, none of them have presented their protests are at all about removing the Ayatollahs from power.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Pompeo... is truly an interesting critter in the Bowels of Power in DC.

His original nomination to the CIA, then to Secretary of State, demonstrates the degree to which President Trump wants to continue to woo the Religious Right in this country.

Here's some interesting background about the man, which I believe, informs his foreign policy assessments with dread, unending wars, and the eschatology of the Rapture.

Mike Pompeo’s Religion: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

And please be aware that at a rally in 2015, to a community of Wichita’s Summit Church, he made the following statement, concluding his address: "“We will continue to fight these battles,” Pompeo vowed, adding, “it is a never-ending struggle until that moment pastor Fox spoke about, until the Rapture. Be part of it. Be in the fight.”

And here comes a story from Quartz.com, from May of last year:

Trump’s foreign policy looks a lot like Rapture Christians’ plan to welcome the apocalypse

The story goes on to state: "A new ideology in the White House
Belief in the Rapture, also known as millenarianism or eschatology, has multiple variations, but the core view is that there will an apocalyptic war, Jesus will return, and true Christians will be “raptured” or ascend to heaven, with the rest of the earth’s inhabitants punished. Rapture believers are split about the order of events, but they are united in the belief that only Christians will be saved."

President Donald Trump nominated Pompeo as secretary of state in March 2018, with Pompeo succeeding Rex Tillerson after his dismissal. Pompeo was confirmed by the Senate on April 26, 2018, in a 57–42 vote and was sworn in the same day.

So we have now have a guy as Secretary of State who believes that bringing about a massive world war, to hasten the Apocalypse and the Rapture, is a really good thing?!?

So President Trump, a word, please: when religious eschatology drives US foreign policy, which is precisely where US foreign policy appears to be headed right now, and very definitely with regard to the Middle East, it potentially puts this country, and ALL of its citizens, in a world of hurt.

Is this the reason Pompeo is desperately trying to demonize Iran?!? And make no mistake; theocracies make me terribly nervous. But is the answer to blow them to kingdom come, when Russia's diplomat assured Iranian diplomats earlier this year, that Iran will not be alone, if US Attacks, says Russian Official

I would like to politely suggest, that such a war will obliterate nearly all signs of life on earth, with no spiritual "reward" whatsoever, and the next kind-of intelligent "life form", other than humankind" may well have its day, on what is left of this planet.

Do we really want to go there, Mr. President?!?

Parties Hold Talks on a New PM as Protests; Continue Talks began in the lead-up to Abdul-Mahdi's resignation

Last week’s resignation of Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi didn’t take anyone by surprise in Iraq, least of all parliament. Officials say that talks on his replacement had already begun days before he resigned, and are now actively going on in earnest.

Which isn’t to say that finding a new premier is going to be easy. Agreeing on Abdul-Mahdi as a compromise candidate took awhile, and there are even more obstacles in the way of anyone being a long-term success now.

Large protests continue to rage, demanding wholesale reforms. The Shi’ite coalition that controls Iraq’s parliament will need to satisfy them with an appointment, but also satisfy the US and Iran, two nations that traditionally hold massive sway on Iraqi politics.

With the protesters demanding an end to foreign influence, it’s tough to imagine anyone that passes the requirements set by the US and Iran would still be palatable to the protest movement, and if he’s not, he’s probably going to have a very short tenure.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is obvious that "business as usual" will not proceed in Iraq until the reasonable demands of its people are satisfied; and that may take a very long time to get sorted, courtesy of the US invasion and occupation.

Russian Defense Ministry denies allegations of air strike on refugee camp in Syria

According to the Russian top brass, the "evidence" is "fake".

Rumors about a Russian air raid on a refugee camp in Syria last August have nothing to do with reality, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Monday.

"To the regret of those who had ordered this fake we have to reiterate that the coordinates of targets and reports of the accomplished missions are never radioed verbally and openly," Konashenkov stated.

He said "absurd accusations by the fake’s authors are based on a video footage of unknown origin showing White Helmets swindlers rushing about in front of the camp’s buildings, images of blue skies where a Russian plane were allegedly seen and fragments of phrases spoken in Russian and attributed to Russian air pilots.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sorry, but the NY Slimes has slouched into a state of simply spewing the US government's propaganda, toward the end of affecting some outcome the US government wants to see happen.

In this case, it is demonizing the Russians in Syria; however, if, in fact "...the coordinates of targets and reports of the accomplished missions are never radioed verbally and openly," Konashenkov stated", then what were these shreds of conversation, in Russian" people claimed to have heard, and why?!?

I would love to have some excellent, independent forensic analysts go over this "information" with a fine tooth comb, to determine what was said, and possibly when it was said; I would be almost willing to bet that what the Russians said happened, actually did happen, and just in the way that they describe.

Lisa Page Is Not A Victim: Her Actions Damaged The FBI And Our Nation

Former FBI lawyer Lisa Page surfaced on Sunday in a rare interview with the Daily Beast stating emphatically that she committed ‘no crime’ during her participation of bureau’s investigation into President Donald Trump and instead, she portrays herself as a victim of the president.

Ironically, what comes across in the interview is her desire to shift the narrative from the mountain of evidence that exposed her anti-Trump hate during the bureau’s Russia investigation. Page, along with other former senior Obama officials, are doing everything in their power to shift the narrative before DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report goes public on Dec. 9.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is simply the exposure of an effort to take down a sitting President before another election could have him win again, hands down; Carter wanted this to go as nastily for President Trump as it could possibly go, and yet; these little tricks have collectively blown up in the faces of the Clintonistas who tried to make this impeachment happen.

Have I loved what President Trump has done, so far?!? Anyone who reads my posts on this blog has to know that the short answer to that question is, "HELL, NO!!"

But attempting impeach the guy for something he never did?!? This is as rotten as it gets folks, period, end of discussion.

The Superpowers Battling Over Iraq's Giant Oil Field

For Russia, the Middle East offers a key military pivot from which it can project influence West and East and that it can use to capture and control massive oil and gas flows in both directions as well.

For China, the Middle East – and, absolutely vitally, Iran and Iraq – are irreplaceable stepping stones towards Europe for its era-defining ‘One Belt, One Road’ project.

Earlier this week an announcement was made by Iraq’s Oil Ministry that highlights each of these factors at play, through a relatively innocuous-sounding contract award to a relatively unknown Chinese firm.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, it appears that the real "winners" of the US's invasion and occupation of Iraq, will be either China or Russia, or China and Russia, possibly working together in some deal with which to benefit both countries, when this project is completed?!?

That ominous challenge to constitutionalism was on full display with the recent op-ed piece in the New York Times by retired Admiral William McRaven, in which he brashly warned that unless Trump jumped aboard the Forever War bandwagon, he must be removed, and “the sooner the better.” The U.S. must have a policy, McRaven said, that protects “the Kurds, the Iraqis, the Afghans, the Syrians, the Rohingyas, the South Sudanese and the millions of people under the boot of tyranny.”

Krieger: "This Entire Century Has Been An Unmitigated March In The Direction Of Stupidity"

Two Paths Forward with China – The Good and The Bad

Since a few things became clear to me last year, I’ve consistently forecasted a significant worsening in U.S.-China relations and remained adamant that all the happy talk of trade deals and breakthroughs is just a lot of hot air.

Since a few things became clear to me last year, I’ve consistently forecasted a significant worsening in U.S.-China relations and remained adamant that all the happy talk of trade deals and breakthroughs is just a lot of hot air.

What first appeared to be a unique quirk of Donald Trump has morphed into bipartisan consensus in Congress, and clear signs have emerged that the general public has likewise become alarmed at China’s growing global clout.

Three major crisis events have rocked the U.S. this century, and much of the public has embraced, or at least accepted, the worst possible response in all cases.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US tensions with China, rather than seeming to being any closer to getting resolved, have absolutely gotten worse, during President Trump's reign, between the signing of the Hong Kong Act; US Navy continued patrolling of the South China Seas and the monumental trade imbalance, which has yet to be resolved.

Trade wars happen to have a nasty habit of morphing into shooting wars; I hope this is not going to happen, but I cannot discount the possibility, that certain individuals in the Bowels of Power in DC, see the destruction of the current regime in Beijing as "the only answer", to the "China Question", as the US cannot manage to compete economically.

President Xi's "Belt and Road" project, using trade to bind Europe and Asia into a formidable manufacturing/distribution hub in Eurasia, will be unstoppable, and there is very little the US can do to stop it, except prevent its evolution from continuing, and that prevention may very well be a war, for which the US government doesn't have the troops; the manufacturing; the money; or the weaponry.

Barr Disputes Major Horowitz Finding Based On Durham, CIA Evidence

Attorney General William Barr will dispute a fundamental finding in the upcoming Inspector General report - namely that the FBI was justified in launching an operation Crossfire Hurricane, the agency's official covert counterintelligence investigation into links between the Trump campaign and Russian officials, according to the Washington Post.

While IG Michael Horowitz is said to have concluded that the agency had enough information to launch the probe on July 31, 2016 after Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos repeated a rumor that Russia had dirt on Hillary Clinton, Barr has reportedly told associates that Horowitz does not know about - or did not include - potentially exculpatory evidence held by other US agencies such as the CIA, which could alter his report's conclusion.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This development is absolutely major, in this case, coupled with the following "bit" of information:

Who is Josef Mifsud?!?

Joseph Mifsud
Description: Joseph Mifsud is a Maltese academic. In 2016, he became involved with George Papadopoulos, an advisor to the Donald Trump presidential campaign, and was later accused of being a link between that campaign and Russia. In 2018, he was described as missing, and an Italian court listed his location as "residence unknown". Wikipedia
Born: 1960 (age 59 years), Malta.

Nationality: Maltese
Disappeared: 6 November 2017 (aged 56–57); Rome, Italy
Education: Queen's University Belfast (1995), University of Padua, University of Malta

One has to wonder; it this "missing" guy still with us on planet earth?!? Or was he made "unavailable", because "he knew too much", whether or not he spoke with Papadopolous, which Papadopolous has rigorously denied?!?

Because having been pronounced "disappeared" by Italian authorities, we will never know.
