Coronavirus 'could be 1,000 times more infectious than SARS, scientists warn as they discover it plagues the body the same way as HIV and Ebola

The coronavirus could be up to 1,000 times more infectious than SARS because it plagues the body in the same way as HIV and Ebola, scientists warn.

Experts initially presumed the spread of COVID-19 would follow the same trajectory as the SARS outbreak in 2002/3, because the viruses are almost identical genetically.

But they have discovered the way it binds to cells in the human body is akin to far more aggressive diseases like HIV and Ebola.

This makes it '100 to 1,000 times' more efficient at infecting people than SARS, according to researchers from Nankai University in Tianjin, northern China.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The potential that this virus has been weaponized, may be confirmed by how much more infectious it is, relative to SARs and HIV.

Panic buying across the US strips store shelves bare amid coronavirus stockpiling as one woman turns her basement into a 'supermarket' and a man buys a YEAR's supply of food

Supermarket shelves are starting to be stripped bare as Americans prepare for the spread of coronavirus

People have been panic buying items ever since health authorities warned that Americans should start preparing for domestic acceleration of the virus

Supplies have been flying off the shelves with people posting photos on social media showing the lack of products available in some stores and pharmacies

In California, some Walgreens stores had been completely depleted of cough medicines, cold and flue medications, vaporizers, masks and thermometers
Shoppers in Hawaii were buying up flatbeds of canned goods, bottled water, toilet paper and paper towels from a local Costco

A supermarket aisle in Virginia had been stripped of non-perishables like pasta

U.S. stock indexes fell sharply again at the open on Friday as the coronavirus outbreak raised the alarm for a possible global recession

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mike and I got down to our local Big Box store this morning, to make sure that we were getting everything we needed to survive for awhile without going out, if quarantines get put in place, or if roadblocks were put up to prevent travel to, or from, areas where the pandemic hits hard.

Sanctions, assassinations, threats by US... Who’s surprised by hardliners winning Iran’s elections?

Darius Shahtahmasebi is a New Zealand-based legal and political analyst who focuses on US foreign policy in the Middle East, Asia and Pacific region. He is fully qualified as a lawyer in two international jurisdictions.

***************************************************************************

The Iranian parliamentary elections have been marred with low voter turnout and a pending victory for Iran’s conservatives. Are the media right to lay the blame squarely on the government, or does the US share some culpability?
The mainstream media has been holding back no punches in its assessment of the recent elections in Iran. According to Iran’s official Fars News Agency, only 42 percent of Iranians took to vote in the country’s parliamentary elections last Friday — the lowest ever percentage since the Islamic Republic’s inception 41 years ago. The low turnout was not surprising to Iran, or even the world, after approximately half of the 16,000 candidates were disqualified.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, the US government does share some major culpability for this outcome; it's attitude toward Iran, from abandoning the P5+1 deal, to making desperately needed medications, particularly for cancer patients, unavailable, is nothing short of spectacularly short sighted, and geopolitically damning.

Eureka! Physicists accidentally stumble upon mind-blowing new material that could upend physics as we know it

Peter Andrews is an Irish science journalist and writer, based in London. He has a background in the life sciences, and graduated from the University of Glasgow with a degree in Genetics

American physicists believe that they have discovered a strange state of matter entirely new to science – and they did it all completely by accident.
Famously, many of the greatest scientific discoveries have been accidental. Alexander Fleming let bread go moldy and discovered penicillin. Archimedes splashing about in the bath stumbled upon how to measure the volume of a solid.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Congrats on these discoveries at Northeastern University, and may the applications from these discoveries to assist humankind be many, and wonderful!!

Even NATO is unwilling to touch Turkey’s Idlib mess with a ten-foot pole

Scott Ritter
is a former US Marine Corps intelligence officer. He served in the Soviet Union as an inspector implementing the INF Treaty, in General Schwarzkopf’s staff during the Gulf War, and from 1991-1998 as a UN weapons inspector. Follow him on Twitter @RealScottRitter

Having been hit by the Syrian Air Force in Idlib, Turkey has called on NATO’s protection, but as much as the alliance would like a fight with Assad and his ally Russia, it’s refused to back Ankara’s questionable adventure.
Turkey engaged NATO in Article 4 consultations, seeking help regarding the crisis in Syria. The meeting produced a statement from NATO condemning the actions of Russia and Syria and advocating for humanitarian assistance, but denying Turkey the assistance it sought.

A failed gamble

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is painfully obvious, that Erdogan did not due his "due dilligence" with NATO, of which Turkey is a member, to sound out potential support for this military misadventure, which is on track to be one of the most miserable epic fails in Turkey's contemporary history, before he decided to send in troops.

The next Turkish Parliamentary elections are scheduled in about 3 years from now. Turkish General Elections Scheduled for 2023.

IF Edrogan keeps writing geopolitical checks his military is unable to cash, this pathologically "bad behaviour" on his part may well sour the Turkish electorate on him; cause the voting public to go back to a Parliamentary system of elections; and find someone else who will care enough about the Turkish people and its military to not put them in harm's way like this.

And now, we have a related story, from rt.com, with the following headline:
Turkey & Syria on brink of WAR in Idlib: How did it come to this?

I am hoping (and praying) that Russia's collective general level head will continue to prevail, but it all depends on how hard Erdogan, and his military, are willing to push back here.

Erdogan has been very much behaving like the human version of a loose cannon, ever since the 2016 attempted coup in Turkey; I am seriously hoping that there has got to be a point, where he has to realize what harm he is bringing to both his people, and his military; but in looking at his current behaviour, relative to Syria, I am not so certain that we are going to see a change in the behaviour which brought Turkey into Syria in the first place.

Top Democrat Leaders Reportedly Prepping Plan To Stop Bernie Sanders At Convention

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said this week that she would be “comfortable” with Bernie Sanders (I-VT) as her party’s presidential nominee, but a bombshell new report from The New York Times is directly contradicting this, stating that top Democratic leaders are preparing to launch a plan to take him down at the nominating convention this summer.

After interviewing dozens of party leaders and 93 super-delegates, The Times found that many of them are secretly planning to stop Sanders at the convention, even if it will hurt the party’s chances of beating Trump in November.

UK Should Be 'Scared to Death' of Assange Extradition Over Public Backlash - Politician

LONDON (Sputnik) - The UK government should be "scared to death" of a popular uproar over its treatment of the imprisoned founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, especially in the event of him being extradited to face espionage charges in the United States, Chris Marsden, the national secretary of the UK Socialist Equality Party, said.

The remarks come amid Assange's extradition hearing that started on Monday at Woolwich Crown Court in the UK capital of London. Earlier in the day, dozens of WikiLeaks supporters gathered outside the court, carrying banners with messages such as "Don’t Extradite Assange" and "The Truth Will Win."

According to Marsden, the accusations against Assange were effectively a "frame up" arguably motivated by Washington's desire to punish the whistleblower for his role in the publishing of materials implicating US forces in possible war crimes.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Please remember; none of the Wikileaks revelations have ever been proven wrong.

US Defences Are Incapable of Intercepting Russian, Chinese Missiles, Navy Admiral Admits

The statement was made during a hearing devoted to the US plans to modernise American weapons and to possible ways the US can respond to the new cutting-edge weapons Russia rolled out in last two years.

US Navy Admiral Charles Richard has admitted that existing American air defences were not designed to counter modern hypersonic glide weapons, like the one recently deployed by Russia, and currently developed by China, and hence these weapons "challenge" the US, during an open hearing at the US House Subcommittee on Strategic Forces. He added that the Pentagon even has trouble determining the capabilities of modern weapons, although it still can make a reliable guess on what threat these weapons pose.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So let me get my head wrapped around this; for all the money spent, the US military is still behind the proverbial 8-ball when it comes to weapons development which should be AT LEAST a step ahead of what Russia and China are producing right now?!?

For all the money US taxpayers have forked out to prevent this, it is still, apparently, happening; there should be a public hearing as to why this has happened, and the heads of those companies which have screwed US taxpayers out of the best weapons systems in the world (which we should, absolutely, have by now, with what has been spent on these systems) should be hard time in a non-club Fed prison for a form of treason against the people of the US, not to mention its military.

Draconian?!? Absolutely.

But it will possibly "cure the problem"?!?

I strongly believe that the short answer is, "HELL, yes!!"

Hundreds of Refugees Reportedly Move Towards European Borders Amid Escalation in Idlib

Ankara has linked a new refugee crisis with renewed hostilities in Syria’s Idlib Province, where the Syrian Army has been repelling militant attacks, some of which began under the cover of Turkish artillery fire, according to the Russian Defence Ministry.

Hundreds of refugees coming from Syria, Pakistan, Iran, and Iraq are currently moving towards Turkey’s borders with Europe following reports that Ankara will no longer prevent migrants from crossing them, Turkey’s Anadolu Agency reported. According to the media outlet, these refugees have been moving in large groups on foot and using vehicles via the cities of Istanbul, Edirne, Izmir, and Aydin.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF in fact these reports are true (and Sputnik is not known for pulling punches), the impact on an already immigrant over-saturated Europe, may well be devastating.

Boom! Scientists spot the biggest known explosion in the universe

Evidence for the biggest explosion seen in the universe comes from a combination of X-ray data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and Europe’s XMM-Newton space telescope, and the Murchison Widefield Array and Giant Metrewave Telescope, as shown here. The eruption is generated by a black hole located in the cluster's central galaxy, which has blasted out jets and carved a large cavity in the surrounding hot gas. Researchers estimate this explosion released five times more energy than the previous record holder and hundreds of thousands of times more than a typical galaxy cluster.

Could the Covid-19 Pandemic Collapse the U.S. Healthcare System?

Disregard these second-order effects at your own peril.

A great many systems that are assumed to be robust are actually fragile. Exhibit #1 is the global financial system, of course, but Exhibit #2 may well be the healthcare system globally and in the U.S.

Observers have noted that the number of available beds in U.S. hospitals is modest compared to the potential demands of a pandemic, and others have wondered who will pay the astronomical bills that will be presented to those who are treated for severe cases of Covid-19, as the U.S. system routinely generates bills of $100,000 and up for a few days in a hospital. Costs of $250,000 or more per patient for weeks of intensive care treating Covid-19 cannot be dismissed as "impossible."

Webmaster's Commentary:

That last paragraph scares the stuffing out of me, and should do the same for you as well.

Please see your health care practitioner now, to determine if there is any immune-system deficiency; then, you are going to have to educate yourself about how you keep your immune system healthy, if the health care system breaks down in this country utterly.

Knowledge is power; and now may well be the time for acquiring that power for yourself.

A big coronavirus mystery: What about the children?

GAZETTE: You’ve been quoted you as saying you expect between 40 percent and 70 percent of humanity to be infected with this virus within a year. Is that still the case?

LIPSITCH: It is, but an important qualifier is that I expect 40 to 70 percent of adults to be infected. We just don’t understand whether children are getting infected at low rates or just not showing very strong symptoms. So I don’t want to make assumptions about children until we know more. That number also assumes that we don’t put in place effective, long-term countermeasures, like social distancing for months at a time which, I think, is a fair assumption. It may be that a few places like China can sustain it, but even China is beginning to let up.

GAZETTE: You mentioned children having been hit only lightly by this. What about other parts of the population? What do we know about the impact of this from a demographic standpoint?

Webmaster's Commentary:

It would seem that if a country were engineering this virus to affect men who were of an age to fight in a war, or were too old to fight, that you would engineer this capability into the virus if possible; children can be controlled, and propagandized effectively enough, so do not need to die through primary viral transmission.

This may well be why the virus is not hitting kids anywhere near as hard as it is older adults.

Angry Judge Orders Hunter Biden To Appear For Deposition In Child Support Case

Circuit Judge Holly Meyer is ordering Hunter Biden to come to Arkansas next month for a deposition, rejecting claims that he’s too busy to make the trip until April.

“He needs to make himself available and unless his hair is on fire, he needs to be in Arkansas and he needs to be in a deposition,” she told lawyers in the case during an afternoon telephone conference call.

Biden, son of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, is the defendant in a paternity suit brought by Lunden Alexis Roberts of Independence County. The court determined in January that Hunter Biden is the father of a toddler, initially referred to as Baby Doe. Child support still needs to be set.

Roberts’ attorney, Clint Lancaster, had tried, without success, to schedule a deposition prior to a pretrial hearing, which is set for March 13.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Good on this judge; however, because of Biden's familial connections (It's GOOD, to be the son of an Ex-VP, and have him being a Democratic challenger for the position of President in 2020!!), such a hearing may well not happen until after the primaries for painfully obvious reasons.

Turkey-Russia Tensions Soar After Deadly Syria Strike

The leaders of Russia and Turkey held crisis talks Friday after 33 Turkish soldiers died in a regime air strike in Syria, prompting President Donald Trump to urge an end to the Moscow-backed Syrian offensive against rebel holdouts.

The attack by Syrian forces took place late Thursday in the northwestern province of Idlib, where President Bashar al-Assad is waging a fierce campaign to oust rebels from their last stronghold.

Trump "condemned" the attack on Turkey's troops and joined his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in calling jointly on Russia and Syria to "halt" the Idlib operation, the White House said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, a word please, just in case your "kitchen cabinet" failed to inform you; Idlib is sovereign Syrian territory, which the Syrian and Russian governments are working to take back from foreign -sponsored terrorists, like those Turkey has been supporting, training, funding, and arming.

The country absoflippinglutely in the wrong here, is Turkey,; not Syria, and not Russia; I do not know why you have a problem keeping this fact straight, but it appears that you very much do have a problem, keeping this fact straight.

Turkey needs to leave immediately, to ratchet down tensions here.

Coronavirus outbreak meets another pandemic cat bond trigger condition

The spreading global outbreak of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV or Covid-19) has now met another of the conditions within the trigger mechanism of the World Bank’s pandemic catastrophe bond transaction, raising the chance that noteholders face losses in the coming weeks.

coronavirus-cat-bond-china: As we have explained, the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV or Covid-19) outbreak that began in the city of Wuhan in Hubei province China poses a threat to the World Bank’s $320 million IBRD CAR 111-112 pandemic catastrophe bond transaction that provides a source of insurance or reinsurance capital to back the Pandemic Emergency Financing Facility (PEF).

The coronavirus outbreak has the potential to become an eligible event under the terms of the World Bank’s pandemic catastrophe bond notes that provide insurance or reinsurance like capacity to back a pandemic financing facility.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Next week could potentially be one of the worst week ever, for financial houses; stocks; and bonds.

Leaked Internal Reports Show China's Main Priorities Are Controlling Public Opinion, Social Stability

Leaked Internal Reports Show China's Main Priorities Are Controlling Public Opinion, Social Stability
Authored by Nicole Hao via The Epoch Times,

Chinese officials in Wuhan and other cities within Hubei Province, where the novel coronavirus outbreak is most severe, reported to their higher-ups in the provincial government that people are not able to secure treatment, running out of supplies amid restrictive lockdown measures, and feeling fearful and anxious about the spreading disease.

espite such observations, authorities prioritized how to “control the society” and “manipulate public opinion” to view China’s efforts to contain the virus positively, according to internal government reports that The Epoch Times obtained.

Authorities in the city of Shiyan, for example, listed their working targets as:

“monitor closely petitioners and people whose benefits have been severely damaged”—in other words, people most likely to dissent against the authorities;

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder at what point the seething anger felt by a society which believes their government allowed this to happen; then made its citizens the "fall guys" for getting ill; then closed off their income; through travel restrictions, is going to wonder if in fact that government is worth the aggravation.

China may not be there yet; but a lot will depend on how loyal its military is, once infections and deaths start to decimate its ranks; but I can tell you, that I sure as hell wouldn't want to be in Chinese leadership right now, unless I had a "bullet-proof escape strategy".

And it is very definitely possible, that many of these people have just gotten comfortable with their own, very hubristic view that such a thing could NEVER happen in China.

I would like to very politely remind those people, that in 1979, the US was confident that the Shah of Iran could not be overthrown; or as thought the the Communists in Moscow that Ceaușescu would be overthrown in December of 1989.

Push groups of people to the very edge, and sometimes the world can very surprised as to the final outcome from those actions.

I would politely suggest to Chinese leadership, that they need real solutions to this pandemic, and need to reach out to the world scientific community before this virus gets completely reverse engineered, and is, very probably, shown to be not an accident, but a biological weapon.

Hyundai halts work at Korean plant after worker tests positive for coronavirus

SEOUL -- Hyundai Motor shut down a factory in South Korea on Friday after a worker tested positive for the new coronavirus.

The factory in Ulsan builds the Palisade, Tucson, Santa Fe and Genesis GV80 crossovers.

The closing dealt a fresh setback to Hyundai, which has gradually resumed production at local plants hit by a Chinese parts shortage in the wake of the virus outbreak.

South Korea has the most infected people outside China, affecting companies like Samsung and Hyundai. South Korea on Friday reported 256 new cases, bringing the total number of infected to 2,022, as the world prepared for a global recession.

"The company has also placed colleagues who came in close contact with the infected employee in self-quarantine and taken steps to have them tested for possible infection," Hyundai Motor said in a news release.

The automaker said it was disinfecting the factory. It did not say when production would resume.

Webmaster's Commentary:

To those brother and sister Americans who have not yet figured that this is going to be a world-altering event, please think again.

IF you have not prepped yet, now might not be a bad time to go to your local big box store, and stock up on essentials; potable water; water filters; medications; storable food; ways to cook if the grid goes down; disinfectant; and soaps.

No one wants to think about a pandemic of this magnitude causing world commerce to come to an horrific crawl, but crawl it will, if borders become shut, and goods stop getting shipped; and yes, now is the time to think about this, before what you want or need to buy to protect yourself and/or your family, is no longer available.

Piers Morgan slams gold medal-winning transgender weightlifter for destroying women's right to a fair go as she closes in on a berth at the Tokyo Olympics

Piers Morgan claims women's sport is suffering because transgender athletes are competing in female divisions.

The UK broadcaster said 'women's rights to basic fairness and equality are getting destroyed at the alter of political correctness.'

The comments were in response to reports transgender weightlifter Laurel Hubbard, 41, is one step closer to fulfilling her 2020 Olympic dreams.

The Kiwi athlete, who transitioned from a man to a woman in her 30s, won two gold medals at the Roma World Cup, the first Olympic qualifying event of the year.

She previously competed in weightlifting as a man.

She is hoping to compete at the Tokyo Olympics in the women's super-lifting category.

But Morgan argued her admittance into the division automatically puts every other contender at a disadvantage.

Trump requested $2.5 billion in funding from Congress for the coronavirus response, an amount that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said was too little as he panned the Trump administration's preparedness for a disease federal officials say may cause "severe" disruption to everyday life in the U.S.

Another Whistleblower Suicide: The Immediate and Unquestioned State Narrative of Philip Haney’s Death

It seems due to the brainwashing of the American commoner, and the almost total indoctrination machine of the state that is used to dumb down the populace at large, that apathy has become so rampant as to allow the general acceptance of fallacious state narratives. These narratives that concern the very suspicious deaths of any that challenge the ruling class or their political puppets, and almost without question, seem to be never-ending these days. There are an unbelievable number of victims of so-called “apparent suicides,” assassinations, outright murder, disappearance, strange car crashes, poisonings, and any other number of unlikely death scenarios of those that have damning information about the state, its wars, and its secrets, and have the guts to tell the truth. Coincidence is no longer a reasonable argument concerning these deaths, and actually never has been legitimate.

Honey supply chain COLLAPSES as China’s beekeepers locked down due to coronavirus pandemic

According to beekeepers, the travel restrictions have prevented them from carrying their hives and bee colonies to the country’s southwestern provinces where the bees usually feed during this time of the year.

As a result, beekeepers like Mo Jiakai are seeing their colonies starve. Mo noted that the recent travel bans have prevented him and his wife – as well as other beekeepers in their area – from bringing their bees to their feeding grounds.

“We would have to go into quarantine for 14 days upon our arrival, which means the hives would be left to starve and die,” said Mo, who has been in the beekeeping business for more than two decades.

Zhang Miaoyan, a beekeeper from Zhejiang Province, shares the same sentiments, adding that her bees have been starving for over 20 days.

“We beekeepers always say that we are in a bitter-sweet business. But this year, probably it is all bitterness,” Zhang said.

4 Reasons Why Socialism Fails

he new “democratic socialists” want to make their followers believe that one could redistribute wealth and income and socialize a large part of the economy without harming production and productivity. They claim that a comprehensive control of the economy by the government would bring more justice and more prosperity. The democratic socialists want more planning and less market. Yet this postulate ignores that socialism does not fail by accident or circumstance. Socialism fails because it suffers from four fundamental design defects.

First, socialism eradicates private property and markets and thus eliminates rational calculation.
Second, socialism allows soft budgets, so there is no mechanism in place to discard inefficient production methods.
Third, abolishing private property and replacing it by the state distorts the incentives.

Britain bought a record amount of Russian gold last year, spending over $5 BILLION

According to customs data seen by RBC business news outlet, gold exports to Britain have grown more than 12 times in terms of value, to $5.33 billion.

Supplies to the UK accounted for 93 percent of all Russian gold exports. Twelve other countries, including Kazakhstan and Switzerland, bought only $409 million-worth of Russian gold.

In physical terms, gold exports from Russia to the United Kingdom in 2019 increased 11 times, from 10.4 tons to 113.5 tons.

Almost the entire volume of deliveries to the UK is gold bullion. Taking into the account the London standard (an ingot weighing about 12.5 kg), it turns out that Russia delivered at least 9,000 ingots to the UK last year.

Thousands of kids skip school for Greta’s address to a huge crowd, amid police warnings and a coronavirus risk. What can go wrong?

Up to 30,000 people were estimated to have seen Greta Thunberg’s ‘School Strike for Climate’ in Bristol. But with police warnings and the shadow of coronavirus looming over Europe, should parents be condoning their kids’ activism?

As sporting events around the world are canceled and schools across the UK weigh up the prospect of closing their doors for two months due to fears of coronavirus infection, the idea of 30,000 people, many of them schoolchildren, gathering in Bristol for a Greta Thunberg rally on Friday seems a bit irresponsible on behalf of the organizers.

Bearing in mind that most schools only finished their mid-term holidays last week and Friday of this week would mean another day skipping school, police also warned parents that the expected number of people flocking to hear the 17-year-old Swedish activist speak puts children in danger of tripping, falling or being crushed.

100s of DEAD voters still registered for 2020 election in Pennsylvania – lawsuit

An Indiana-based law firm is suing Allegheny County, Pennsylvania in federal court for having hundreds of dead people registered to vote in the upcoming 2020 election, among other bizarre irregularities.

The lawsuit alleges that some 1,600 dead people are registered to vote in the 2020 election, while almost 1,200 people are registered to vote without a date of birth listed, and some have even listed the 1800s as their birth years, all violations of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.

“One registrant is stated as being born in ‘June 1800,’ the same year Thomas Jefferson won eight of Pennsylvania’s 15 Electoral College votes against President John Adams,” the lawsuit filed against Allegheny County, Pennsylvania by the Public Interest Legal Foundation claims.

The nonprofit law firm behind the suit is run by a former member of President Donald Trump’s now-disbanded Voter Fraud Commission.

This 1990s LSD Lab Built Inside An Underground Missile Silo Gave Us The World's Acid

From the outside, it's just a slate gray, Cold War–era missile silo, but the inside is a different story. No one can agree on exactly what happened on there, but we know it involved the manufacture of a lot of mind-altering substances. From the late 1990s to fall 2000, Leonard Pickard and Gordon Todd Skinner used the silo as an LSD lab that supposedly produced much of the world's supply of the drug. If they'd kept their cool, Skinner and Pickard would probably still be producing LSD today.
