Reports: 600-Plus Ebola Cases in D.R. Congo ‘Expected to Double’

The more than 600 people confirmed to have contracted Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) could “double,” in what is already the largest outbreak in that country’s history and the second deadliest ever recorded, the director of a non-governmental organization (NGO) reportedly predicted over the weekend.

Health officials in the DRC recorded six cases daily from October to December across all affected areas and the number is increasing, Jean-Philippe Marcoux, the director of the NGO Mercy Corps in the DRC, reportedly revealed.

“Now it’s doubling – it’s very possible that it can double again,” he explained, the Guardian reported Friday. “If we don’t significantly increase the resources, it will keep increasing. It will spread progressively to other health areas, and it will be there for a long time.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is really bad news, not just for the people in the DRC, but people living in the whole of Africa, and beyond.

This is a nasty one to get one's hands around, in terms of arresting the spread of the disease.

Limbaugh: NRO Pushed Covington Hoax to Win ‘Approval of the Mainstream Media’

When we see a picture of a teenager who’s white wearing a Trump hat, a “Make America Great Again” hat, and he’s standing there smiling while some aging Indian leftist activist is beating a war drum, what do we do?

We immediately condemn the kid, without even thinking! Without even learning anything, without even taking a few minutes to understand what happened! Instead of using our instincts! “Okay, we got a left-wing Indian activist there. We’ve got the media jumping all over it.” The red flags should have gone up immediately, and everybody on our side should have called ’em out for what this was! But instead, we had people on the right condemning the kids.

President Trump Begins Tweeting about the Covington Catholic Hoax

"Nick Sandmann and the students of Covington have become symbols of Fake News and how evil it can be. They have captivated the attention of the world, and I know they will use it for the good - maybe even to bring people together. It started off unpleasant, but can end in a dream!" ~ President Donald Trump

40 UK ministers could resign over no-deal Brexit: Report

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has been warned that no less than 40 of her ministers could resign if she denies them the right to vote for a plan that would block a no-deal exit from the European Union (EU) later this year, a new report suggests.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd has informed May and other government officials that the possible exodus could take place unless the ministers are allowed to support an amendment in the House of Commons that extend the duration of the Article 50 of EU’s Lisbon Treaty beyond the original March 29 deadline for Brexit.

If approved, the new plan prevents May from proceeding with her previous threats of a no-deal divorce, which analysts say would have unpredictable ramifications.

Tabled by Labour’s Yvette Cooper and former Tory ministers Oliver Letwin and Nick Boles, the new amendment would come up for debate and vote on January 29.

Rudd has asked May to allow a free vote on the bill to prevent a mass walkout from 10 Downing Street.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This was really not what the people of Great Britain signed off on, with the original Brexit vote; May has just not been able to deliver here,

Russia cuts foreign debt to decade low while boosting national reserves

Russia’s external debt has fallen by $64.4 billion or 12.4 percent from the beginning of last year, amounting to $453.7 billion as of January 1, 2019 – the lowest level since April 2009, according to Central Bank of Russia data.
All institutional sectors dropped their debts last year, the Central Bank of Russia announced on Monday, adding that other sectors contributed “the most to the country’s external debt contraction,” reducing their indebtedness by $32.3 billion.

The foreign debt has been dropping since mid-2014, when it reached its peak of around $733 billion in the wake US and EU sanctions. Since then, Russia managed to reduce debt by nearly $280 billion to reach the ten year minimum. In the fourth quarter of 2018 alone, the external debt was reportedly reduced by more than $16 billion or some 3.5 percent.

Make No Mistake: ISIS Needs the U.S. to Survive

“We have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency,” the president wrote. He later expanded on that sentiment in a video message, posted on Twitter. “Our boys, our young men and women, are coming home now,” Trump noted. “We won.”

But a recent attack on U.S. forces in Syria, carried out by a suicide bomber which ISIS claimed was operating on its behalf, has led to an outpouring of criticism of Trump’s precipitous decision. “ISIS has claimed credit for killing American troops in Syria today,” Senator Marco Rubio tweeted in the aftermath of the attack. “If true, it is a tragic reminder that ISIS not been defeated and is transforming into a dangerous insurgency. This is no time to retreat from the fight against ISIS. Will only embolden & strengthen them.”

Zimbabwe court says internet shutdown illegal as more civilians detained

Zimbabwe’s government exceeded its mandate in ordering an internet blackout during civilian protests last week, a court ruled on Monday, as authorities pressed on with rounding up opposition figures blamed for the unrest.

In his interim ruling, High Court Judge Owen Tagu told mobile operators to immediately and unconditionally resume full services. The biggest, Econet Wireless, compiled with the order late on Monday, it said in a message to subscribers.

The sporadic blackout began on Tuesday following the start of protests against a rise in fuel prices that turned violent.

With evidence growing that the country is slipping back into authoritarian rule, critics of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government had accused it of shutting off the internet to prevent a security clampdown being broadcast to the world.

Mnangagwa was due back in Zimbabwe late on Monday after cutting short a foreign trip.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It looks like it is only a matter of time before the current government of Zimbabwe cannot hold this country together.

NATO, Russian ambassadors to meet Friday

NATO and Russian ambassadors will meet in Brussels Friday, the Western military alliance said, with discussions likely to focus on the standoff over Ukraine and on nuclear weapons.

This would be the ninth such NATO-Russia Council since the start of 2016.

"Following consultations with Russia, we have agreed to hold a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council at ambassadorial level on Jan. 25, 2019 at NATO headquarters in Brussels," a NATO official said Monday.

NATO has criticized Russia over its seizure of three Ukrainian naval vessels and their crews in November. A court in Moscow ruled last week that 24 Ukrainian sailors seized off the coast of Crimea should be kept in pre-trial detention until April.

Russia has meanwhile warned that a new U.S. missile defense strategy would unleash a dangerous arms race in space and amount to a relaunch of the Cold War-era "Star Wars" program.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With so much ill will and animosity between NATO, the US government, and Russia, it will be a miracle if anything of substance is achieved at all in this Brussels meeting.

But let's hope something positive can come out of this.

Venezuela's top court declares parliament leadership illegitmate

Venezuela's Supreme Court declared the leadership of the opposition-controlled National Assembly illegitimate and its decisions "void" Monday after it repudiated the presidency of Nicolas Maduro.

The latest escalation in the power struggle between Maduro and the new president of the assembly, Juan Guaido, came on the same day as a brief military uprising in Caracas and amid opposition calls for mass protests on Wednesday.

Supreme Court president Juan Jose Mendoza read a statement to the press declaring that the legislature "does not have a legitimate board of directors."

He charged that it was "usurping its authority, and therefore all its decisions are void."

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is an economic crisis; a military crisis, and a judicial crisis haunting Venezuela right now; the perfect trifecta.

One wonders how much can be endured by the Venezuelan people, until something snaps.

Israeli Election Ad Brags on Bombing Gaza Back to the Stone Age

Second ad for Gantz includes 'kill counter' related to 2014 Gaza War.

Running for parliament in the upcoming April vote, former Israeli Army Chief Benny Gantz has steered heavily into his military history, and large numbers of people killed and damage done in the 2014 Gaza War.

One of his videos focuses on aerial footage of a destroyed Gaza neighborhood, bragging that “parts of Gaza were returned to the stone ages,” and bragging the devastation led to “3-5 years of quiet.”

A second video for Gantz shows Palestinians attending funerals with a “kill-counter” prominently displayed, going up to 1,364, the number Israel reports to have killed in 2014. The video concludes “only the strong win.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Wouldn't it be nice for any Israeli Presidential candidate to speak honestly, and reasonably, about how to engage Gazan Palestinians with real prospects for peace and financial betterment, rather than offer them only hate, and certain extermination?!?

Rape Reports in Sweden up 33 Percent in Last Decade

The number of reported rape cases has increased by 33 percent over the last ten years, according to the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå), with cases up eight percent on the last year alone.
Brå released preliminary statistics for 2018 this week that showed not only that the number of rape reports increased by eight percent on the last year, but that reports of rape against children had increased even more, by 13 percent, Expressen reports.

Stina Söderman, a researcher and report author at Brå, commented on the preliminary findings, saying: “We have seen a clear increase in reported rape in recent years.”

Moscow says Skripal case aimed at diverting attention from Brexit

The campaign launched by the British government in the wake of the Skripal incident pursues domestic policy goals in the context of Brexit negotiations, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated on Monday in response to the Council of Europe’s decision to introduce sanctions against several Russian citizens due to their involvement in the Salisbury incident.

"The information campaign launched by the British government with regards to this case pursues, first and foremost, domestic policy goals. It is telling that its new splash has coincided with another wave of the Brexit negotiations crisis," the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Feds Prepare To Bail Out "Vast Majority" Of 90,000 Sears Pensions

The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp (PBGC) said in a Friday press release that it believes Sears Holdings Corp's "continuation of the plans is no longer possible" following the Company's October bankruptcy, after it was revealed in a Friday filing that Chairman Eddie Lampert's $5.2 billion rescue package does not include pension plans.

PBGC, a government agency, covers individuals' pensions in the event a pension plan shuts down without sufficient funding to meet its obligations. The Sears pension system, meanwhile, is underfunded to the tune of approximately $1.4 billion, which the agency could attempt to recover through the bankruptcy, according to MSN.

Death Of Russiagate? Mueller Team Tied To Mifsud's Network

In April last year, Disobedient Media broke coverage of the British involvement in the Trump-Russia collusion narrative, asking why All Russiagate Roads Lead To London, via the quasi-scholar Joseph Mifsud and others.

The issue was also raised by WikiLeaks's Julian Assange, just days before the Ecuadorian government silenced him last March. Assange's Twitter thread cited research by Chris Blackburn, who spoke with Disobedient Media on multiple occasions covering Joseph Mifsud's ties to British intelligence figures and organizations, as well as his links to Hillary Clinton's Presidential campaign, the FBI, CIA and the private cyber-security firm Crowdstrike.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The corporate press should be standing for the people, not for those elements of the government it primarily represents; the American deep state lives, breathes, and moves, and if there was ever a more glaring example of that, it was the "Russiagate" Fiction, which has gobbled up time, money, and expense from the American people, and still has nothing to show for it, I would like to find it!!

Anti-Trump Frenzy Threatens To End Superpower Diplomacy

Perhaps we should have guessed that the democracy-promotion genes of J. Edgar Hoover were still alive and breeding in the FBI, though for the Times, in its exploitation of the hapless and legally endangered Page, it seems not to matter.

Which brings us, or rather Russiagate zealots, to the heightened “threat” represented by “Putin’s Russia.” If true, we would expect the US president to negotiate with the Kremlin leader, including at summit meetings, as every president since Dwight Eisenhower has done. But, we are told, we cannot trust Trump to do so, because, according to The Washington Post, he has repeatedly met with Putin alone, with only translators present, and concealed the records of their private talks, sure signs of “treasonous” behavior, as the Russiagate media first insisted following the Trump-Putin summit in Helsinki in July 2018.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This growing "frenzy" against Russia, coupled with new NATO deployments right at its borders; the placing of weapons ringing Russia, plus the growing concern that the US government feels it needs to teach Russia "a lesson" about its having assisted Syria in kicking out most of the jihadis, the stage is set for something to go horrifically wrong here, and we may find both countries at each other's necks, in a shooting war.

China Threatens Retaliation As US Confirms Plan To Extradite Huawei CFO

Despite China's demands that the US government use the shutdown as an excuse not to make a formal extradition request for Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou, DOJ officials have reportedly told a Canadian diplomat that the DOJ will submit its formal extradition request by the Jan. 30 deadline (the US has 60 days from the day of Meng's arrest in Vancouver to formally ask for extradition).

The news, which was first published Tuesday by Canadian newspaper Globe and Mail, sent the offshore yuan lower as Chinese officials accused the US of "abusing" the extradition system in the Meng case. According to the report, David MacNaughton, Canada's ambassador to the US, met with senior White House and State Department officials about the Meng case.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US government appears, in this case, hell-bent to force things here from bad to worse, and at a time when trade relations are very tense.

This kind of behaviour from our government, smacks of a thuggocracy, rather the democratic republic, where the rule of law always triumphs, as it is alleged to be.

There were face-saving actions which could mean a win/win for China and the US; however, they were rejected immediately, and the Trump administration has now thrown geopolitical "blunt force trauma" into this pending request for extradition.

Satellite Images Reveal China Is Building Secret War Bunkers Near Indian Border

The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has constructed a new, underground facility (UGF) about 31 miles from the India-China border, and 37 miles from the Indian Army’s forward posts at Demchok in Ladakh.

According to The Print, satellite imagery identified a deeply buried hardened target (DBHT) under construction outside the town of Ngari, also known as Shiquanhe in Mandarin.

Construction started in December 2016, about six months before the 2017 China–India border standoff near the India-China-Bhutan tri-junction in the east.

The Print, specified that special personnel are being used instead of locals, to maintain secrecy and security of the project.

The UGF appears to have four large tunnel entrances and three small ones; all have hardened entrances with reinforced concrete. Judging by the images, the openings would soon be covered with other material to withstand a direct military strike.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF this report is true, it is very distressing, due to the following:

Recently, there is also a new "thaw" in the Pakistani and Chinese economic courtship: China's Belt and Road Plan in Pakistan takes a military turn

And here's a very important article about a US/India defense deal, finalized last September: US and India sign 'breakthrough' military agreement despite differences over Iran and Russia

So if China is thinking about attacking India over disputed border issues, the US will be fighting on India's side.

I don't know what odds Vegas bookies are putting on it, but were I a betting woman, I would bet that a military draft will be reimposed in this country, and very soon.

MAGA Hat Teen Speaks Out Amid Death Threats; Denounces "Outright Lies" About Tribal Elder Staredown

The Kentucky teenager at the center of a media circus has spoken out after receiving death threats over a widely misreported incident with an Obama tribal elder on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.

"I am the student in the video who was confronted by the Native American protester," reads a statement by Nick Sandmann, the Covington Catholic High School junior who was initially accused of taunting the drum-beating activist, prominent activist Nathan Phillips, only to be vindicated after the full video revealed that the Native American troupe approached the teens amid a tense standoff with a group known as the Black Hebrew Israelites, while the teens peacefully held their ground.

Sandmann has become the face of the apparent confrontation, smiling silently only a foot or two from the face of Nathan Phillips, a Vietnam War veteran and prominent activist for indigenous people's causes.

Beyond BuzzFeed: The 10 Worst, Most Embarrassing US Media Failures On The Trump/Russia Story

Buzzfeed was once notorious for traffic-generating “listicles”, but has since become an impressive outlet for deep investigative journalism under editor-in-chief Ben Smith. That outlet was prominently in the news this week thanks to its “bombshell” story about President Trump and Michael Cohen: a story that, like so many others of its kind, blew up in its face, this time when the typically mute Robert Mueller’s office took the extremely rare step to label its key claims “inaccurate.”

BuzzFeed News investigative reporter Anthony Cormier on Sunday declined to explain why his colleague Jason Leopold claimed to have seen documents proving that President Trump had ordered his former lawyer Michael Cohen to lie to Congress -- contradicting Cormier's insistence that he had not personally seen the documents.

"We can't get into, like, the details there," Cormier, sitting next to BuzzFeed News Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith, told CNN's "Reliable Sources" host Brian Stelter. "We really can't go any further at all, in order not to jeopardize our sources."

Leopold did not appear for the interview, which occassionally became tense as Stelter openly criticized BuzzFeed's journalistic practices. Smith claimed Leopold, who has been out of the public view since Friday, was busy "reporting."

Is Labour’s anti-Semitism row fuelled by pro-Israel online ‘guerrilla warriors’?

The Labour Party in Britain has been dogged by allegations of anti-Semitism ever since Jeremy Corbyn’s victory in the 2015 leadership contest. The crisis has since threatened to tear the party apart. Now, though, what appears to be an organised campaign to fuel the row has been uncovered, raising concerns that the party is being targeted by a network of social media trolls with the intent of harming Britain’s democratic process.

An investigation by the Electronic Intifada discovered fake online accounts being used when the crisis was at its peak. A report by the online publication documented 10 fake Twitter profiles posing as Corbyn supporters and issuing virulent anti-Semitic posts. The accounts are said to share sufficient similarities to indicate that the same person – or group – is running them, in what appears to be an organised campaign to discredit Corbyn and smear Labour as an anti-Semitic party.

MARTIN LUTHER KING - THE FATAL SHOT CAME FROM A DIFFERENT DIRECTION

The above photograph was taken from inside the bathroom of the rooming house at 422 South Main Street, looking through the window through which James Earl Ray is supposed to have shot Dr. King. At the very top of the photo can be seen the balcony of the Lorraine Motel. A small green circle identifies the roof corner marked in the detail from the picture right after the shooting. From this vantage point, we can confirm that the angle from the bathroom window to where Dr. King was killed is nearly level, as is indicated by the dotted red line on the detail photo.

The evidence in the photo taken just moments after the assassination is unequivocal. The claim that the witnesses are pointing to the rooming house where James Earl Ray was staying is a complete fabrication. The gunfire came from another direction high above the bathroom window.

Honor Dr. King? Then honor King Family civil trial verdict that US government are the assassins, and demand .01% arrests for murder + coverup. Your alternative: live under killers’ control forever, murdering all approaching Martin’s leadership

“We have done what we can to reveal the truth, and we now urge you as members of the media, and we call upon elected officials, and other persons of influence to do what they can to share the revelation of this case to the widest possible audience.”~ Coretta Scott King, Martin's wife, King Family Press Conference, Dec. 9, 1999.

The Price Of Empire

Why America and Britain Are Self-Destructing (And What the World Can Learn From it)

It’s a striking fact of today’s world that the two rich societies in shocking, swift, sharp decline are America and Britain. Nowhere else in the world, for example, are real income, life expectancy, happiness, and trust all plummeting, apart from maybe Venezuela (No, “but at least we’re not Venezuela!” is not the bar to aim for, my friends.)

Their downfall is, of course, a self-inflicted catastrophe. But the interesting question is: why? And what does it tell us about what it takes to prosper and thrive in the 21st century, which is something that America and Britain clearly aren’t doing, and maybe aren’t capable of doing?

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is one of the most brilliantly said observations I have read, on the current situations in the Unhinged, Surveilled State of America.

Societies, just like the world around us, have life cycles. There is a birth, a flowering, and ultimately, a death, sometimes followed by a rebirth - a renaissance - of something that works much better; there are no guarantees here, however.

Right now, in their staggeringly brutal will to hold on to their power and possessions at any cost, the masters of the American universe are losing their grip, both on the narrative, and the reason these everlasting wars need to be pursued to the point of societal ruin.

Bill Barr’s CIA Resume: Cover-Ups, Covert Operations, and Pardons

With President Trump reserving the possibility that he might pardon former aides indicted by Mueller, Barr’s handling of the Iran-Contra pardons of 1992 is revealing.

The CIA was in real danger. The trials of George and Clarridge promised to be a public relations nightmare or worse.. Sen. Pat Moynihan, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee had introduced a bill to abolish the clandestine service. The Cold War was coming to an end and the agency’s future was in doubt.

In his oral history, Barr urged Bush to pardon the CIA men on the grounds that they were victims of the “criminalization” of foreign policy. When it came to pardoning, Barr said he “favored the broadest” use of the power.

“There were some people arguing just for Weinberger, and I said, No, in for a penny, in for a pound,” Barr recalled.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, in essence, Barr was picked for his fealty to "towing the Party Line", and making sure that top-drawer politicos avoid any consequences for their actions?!?

Trump’s New Missile Policy Relies Heavily on Largely Unproven Technologies

President Donald Trump took to a Pentagon podium on Thursday to paint a picture of a gathering storm — a not-too-distant storm of long-range, defense-evading enemy missiles.

“All over, foreign adversaries, competitors, and rogue regimes are steadily enhancing their missile arsenals…Their arsenals are getting bigger and stronger,” Trump said. “They’re increasing their lethal strike capabilities, and they’re focused on developing long-range missiles that could reach targets within the United States.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

A foreign policy coming from this White House to engage, rather than enrage those members on the world stage who absolutely have this technology, would be a wonderful thing to see, from this administration.

Unfortunately, however, this administration is so "pedal to the Metal" war-centric, as though this is the ONLY way to resolve geopolitical tensions, that such a foreign policy shift... is apt to happen only... when pigs discover they are aerodynamic.

Manbij Attack Gives US Hawks, and ISIS, Exactly What They Want

An ISIS suicide bombing in Syria’s Manbij killed four US troops. This caused a minor redesign in the narrative from hawkish US politicians and media pundits who were opposed to the US withdrawal from Syria. They’re exactly as opposed as before, only now Manbij is the excuse.

So after weeks of centering their talking points on saving the Kurds from Turkey, the focus now is on the idea that ISIS is emboldened by the announced US pullout, and that continuing the pullout will only make the withdrawing soldiers a target.

Their solution is to keep US troops in Syria, which ironically is also ISIS’ solution. Having lost their caliphate and become a desert-centric insurgency with little territory, the US pullout would be a big blow to ISIS’ already crumbling relevance as an international movement.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I cannot help but wonder if those US soldiers killed, were not the "sacrificial lambs", being lead to slaughter, as the "excuse" for keeping the US military in Syria?!?

There are deep divides in the American body politic on this; and some of those in the US "deep state" may well have been willing to justify any sacrifice made, to prove their continued legitimacy in their perspective here.

"Assassins on speed-dial?!?"

I would love to say, no; but unfortunately, both the 20th and 21st century are rife with examples of political assassinations of people certain elements in the US government ... just do not like, or want to "neutralize" to prove a geopolitical point.

Spy Theories and the White House: Donald Trump as Russian Agent

The level of absurdity in US politics has now reached such vertigo inducing levels as to render all manner of things permissible. Contact with the unwashed implies collaboration; discussion with the enemy implies assent. To go to a dinner party with a perceived hostile force in the context of business of diplomacy has become a child’s condemnation of misplaced loyalties. Yet everyday, thousands of engagements are made between powers and interests where nothing other than a hello is exchanged, or a pleasantry. Perhaps the more relevant question to ask here is that businessmen and women in power suggest the limits of the nation state and representation: to what extent can such figures claim to be legitimate as figure who think outside the logic of money and finance?

US Airstrike Kills 23 in Eastern Syria, Mostly Fleeing Civilians

US airstrike targeted a group of fleeing civilians outside of the village of Baghouz in eastern Syria on Friday. The attack killed at least 23 people, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The majority of those slain were civilians, though there are reports that some of the fleeing people were ISIS members. Activists said they believe the majority had been displaced from nearby areas, and were fleeing again.

This comes amid the latest offensive by US-backed Kurdish forces against the three ISIS towns in eastern Syria, and the adjoining villages. These areas have been repeatedly attacked, lost and regained, and every time it leads to a number of displaced civilians.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So.... allegedly, the US military is leaving Syria, but continues to bomb from the air, killing more civilians.

What's wrong with this picture?!?

BLOODY EVERYTHING!!

According to the source, militants store toxic chemicals in several warehouses across Idlib province and the far northern part of Lattakia province.

The source stressed that Ajnad al-Caucasus, Jaish al-Izza and the Turkistan Islamic Party, all of which are linked to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, are preparing for a series of synchronized chemical attacks in the provinces of Lattakia, Idlib, Aleppo and Hama. According to the report, militants will use use shells and mortar mines as well as drones loaded with toxic materials.

Turkey says Syria regime forces shouldn't be allowed in Manbij

Turkey on Friday insisted Syrian regime forces should not be allowed in Manbij as US troops withdraw, as proposed by a US-backed Kurdish militia viewed as terrorists by Ankara.

The strategic northern city has been held by the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) militia since 2016 after they recaptured the territory from Islamic State jihadists.

But Ankara, who says the YPG is a "terrorist offshoot" of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), has repeatedly called for the militia to leave the city.

"The YPG's efforts to stick the regime in Manbij must absolutely not be allowed," Turkish Foreign Ministry Hami Aksoy said during a press conference in Ankara.

Backed by Washington, the militia has spearheaded the fight against IS but was taken aback when President Donald Trump made the shock decision to pull out 2,000 American ground forces from Syria.

Four Americans, including two US soldiers, were killed this week in Manbij in a suicide attack claimed by IS.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I don't know precisely what Erdogan is thinking here, but.... if, in fact Manbij is, technically, Syrian territory, it should be ceded to the Syrian military.

This is a very delicate balancing act between Syria, Turkey, Russia, and the US, and if not handled with a great deal of diplomatic finesse, could easily explode into more violence.

And I seriously would like to hope and pray, that the world leaders involved in this standoff, will come to their collective senses, and not cause any more misery for the Syrian people than they have already been dealt, courtesy of the jihadis, and those who trained, funded, aided them medically, and supported them.

Come on, guys; the world knows who you are at this point!!!!

CNN GUEST: BUZZFEED ‘GOT THEIR BRAINS KICKED IN’ BY MUELLER’S TEAM

CNN guest and radio host Ben Ferguson said Friday that BuzzFeed News “got their brains kicked in” by the Special Counsel’s office over their disputed report on President Donald Trump.

BuzzFeed News reported on Thursday night that former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen told Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s prosecutors that the president had directed him to lie about a potential Trump Tower deal in Moscow during the 2016 election. (RELATED: Mueller’s Office Disputes BuzzFeed’s Report)

Mueller’s office issued a rare statement disputing BuzzFeed’s reporting on Friday:

“BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate.”

SUGAR INDUSTRY QUIETLY PAID SCIENTISTS TO POINT BLAME AT FAT

n the 1960s, the sugar industry funded research that downplayed the risks of sugar and highlighted the hazards of fat, according to a newly published article in JAMA Internal Medicine.

The article draws on internal documents to show that an industry group called the Sugar Research Foundation wanted to “refute” concerns about sugar’s possible role in heart disease. The SRF then sponsored research by Harvard scientists that did just that. The result was published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 1967, with no disclosure of the sugar industry funding.

The sugar-funded project in question was a literature review, examining a variety of studies and experiments. It suggested there were major problems with all the studies that implicated sugar, and concluded that cutting fat out of American diets was the best way to address coronary heart disease.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Proving that Harvard is not above creative lying, when the money is concerned is ample, but does it so tastefully, completely covered in the clothing of "
pure science", that few people are the wiser, when it comes to the real facts.

LOCKED UP: HOW THE MODERN PRISON-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX PUTS SO MANY AMERICANS IN JAIL

ou cannot have a discussion on the prison-industrial complex without discussing private prisons. As of 2018, private prisons housed 8.41 percent of incarcerated persons in the United States. While private prisons date back to the colonial days, the modern privatized prisons as we think of them only date back to the 1980s. This was initially due to the explosion of prison population and resulting prison overcrowding that some have tied to the War on Some Drugs.

This spike in incarceration, however, is far more closely tied with the rise of private prisons. Between the years 1925 and 1980, the prison population in the United States remained constant as a proportion of the overall population. In 1983, however, two things happened: First, the first private prisons came into operation. Second, the prison population as a proportion of the overall population began to explode.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Private Prison Industrial Complex, is one of the worst ideas in the world, and many US politicians get money donated from these institutions, rather regularly.

They promise that they can do it more cheaply than do publicly funded prisons, and that may be true; but what happens to that prisoner, before they are released, if they are not released in a coffin, can be a monumental hazard to their physical, and mental health.

Food is substandard; Medical care: lacking in the extreme; and almost zero rehabilitation, which will nearly insure recidivism.

How Private Prisons Increase Recidivism

Study finds private prisons keep inmates longer, without reducing future crime

Private Prison Confinement on Offender: Recidivism Evidence from Minnesota This article goes on to state: "Using multiple measures of recidivism and private prison confinement, 20 Cox regression models were estimated. The results showed that offenders who had been incarcerated in a private prison had a greater hazard of recidivism in all 20 models, and the recidivism risk was significantly greater in 8 of the models. The evidence presented in this study suggests that private prisons are not more effective in reducing recidivism, which may be attributable to fewer visitation and rehabilitative programming opportunities for offenders incarcerated at private facilities."

New Zeaaland Recidivism-forcused: Private Prison Contracts a Model for the States

The US Government, psychologically, has never been able to make up its mind, about punishment, versus rehabilitation, when it comes to its prison population; therefore, it repeatedly fails at both.

Mueller's office disputes Buzzfeed story on Michael Cohen

U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller's office issued a statement late on Friday taking issue with a report in Buzzfeed that President Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen said Trump told him to lie to Congress.

“BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate,” Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller office, said in the statement.

WATCH: Chris Cuomo Is PISSED After BuzzFeed Flub; “Mueller Didn’t Do The Media Any Favors Tonight”

There is much weeping and gnashing of teeth in the media following the stunning implosion of a BuzzFeed story that was set up to provide the grounds for the upcoming impeachment of President Trump.

In the piece that was written by the already discredited Jason Leopold, it was claimed that the Democrats’ star witness against Trump in his former attorney turned rat Michael Cohen had been ordered to lie to Congress on the Trump Tower Moscow project.

The media picked up the ball and ran with it, hammering the impeachment angle repeatedly as Nancy Pelosi seethed over her foreign junket being canceled but on Friday evening, a rare statement out of chief inquisitor Robert Mueller’s office (likely approved Mueller himself) blew a smoking hole in the BuzzFeed piece and its inaccuracies.

It was as though all of the air was immediately sucked out of the balloon and the flummoxed media didn’t know what hit them.

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION BACKS SLOW-MOTION RIGHT-WING COUP IN VENEZUELA

A slow-motion coup by right-wing opposition forces is underway in Venezuela. It has the support of President Donald Trump’s administration, and if successful, President Nicolas Maduro will be undemocratically removed from power though he was re-elected last May
.
Juan Guaido of the Popular Will Party in Venezuela was elected to lead the National Assembly, Venezuela’s congress. He said on January 11 that he was ready to replace Maduro.

“The constitution gives me the legitimacy to carry out the charge of the presidency over the country to call actions. But I need backing from the citizens to make it a reality,” Guaido stated.

On January 15, the National Assembly called Maduro’s presidency “illegitimate” and passed a resolution indicating the body no longer believes he has any legal authority.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mikey, Mikey, Mikey; we all know what the US government wants; access to those oil reserves, and pronto!!

Venezuela is the clear global leader in oil reserves

So, Mikely, please do not even attempt to behave as though you gave a rat's anus about the people in this country. This Administration would back the second coming of Attila the Hun, as long as it got what it wanted, economically, and with Juan Guaido in power, it believes it will; period, end of discussion, sir.

GLOBAL DEBT TOPS 244 TRILLION DOLLARS AS "NEARLY HALF THE WORLD LIVES ON LESS THAN $5.50 A DAY"

The borrower is the servant of the lender, and one of the primary ways that the elite keep the rest of us subjugated is through the $244,000,000,000,000 mountain of global debt that has been accumulated.

Every single day, the benefits of our labor are going to enrich somebody else. A portion of the taxes that are deducted from your paycheck is used to pay interest on government debt. A portion of the profits that your company makes probably goes to servicing some form of business debt. And most Americans are continuously making payments on their mortgages, their auto loans, their credit card balances and their student loan debts. But most people never stop to think about who is becoming exceedingly wealthy on the other end of these transactions. Needless to say, it isn’t the 46 percent of the global population that is living on less than $5.50 a day.

PIPELINE ERUPTS IN FIERY EXPLOSION IN MEXICO, KILLING AT LEAST 66

A gas pipeline in the Mexican state of Hidalgo exploded on Friday night, killing at least 21 people in a blast the authorities said was caused by an illegal tap used to steal fuel.

Omar Fayad, the governor of Hidalgo, said on Twitter that more than 70 others were injured in the explosion in Tlahuelilpan, a town about 80 miles north of Mexico City.

The state-run energy company, Pemex, said that the explosion was caused by an illegal fuel tap at the Tuxpan-Tula pipeline.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Pemex has a long, and sordid, history of covering up safety and health issues with their plants, and their explanation of what happened here, is probably no accident. Take a look at the following, if you do not believe me:

Pipeline Erupts in Fiery Explosion

Safety Issues at Pemex

Pemex. Pemex has a long history of alleged violation of human and labour rights regarding engineers, unrightfully considered to be "trusted workers" who have tried to unionize since 1995 and succeeded, after several repression episodes, in doing so in 2008 and 2009, although at a high human cost.

Mexican Blast Stirs Anger, Criticism

You catch my drift; anything that Pemex may have done to create these safety hazards, leading to this explosion, will be just swept under the corporate rug, as simply the cost of business as usual.

UNIVERSITY DEMANDS STUDENT PAY $500 FOR PUBLIC RECORDS ON ITS CHINESE PROPAGANDA INSTITUTE

Crowdfund to ‘show public agencies they can’t make requesters go away’

Under scrutiny from lawmakers of both parties and academic groups, universities have been closing their Chinese government-run centers at a brisk pace.

The University of Kansas has not publicly moved to shutter its Confucius Institute, however, and a KU student wanted to know if administrators had discussed the possibility. He filed a public records request a month ago.

The taxpayer-funded university gave him an answer Thursday: $506.50.

Conner Mitchell set up a crowdfunding page to raise the money demanded by KU to hand over emails from top administrators that include the phrase “Confucius Institute.” He describes himself as a freelance journalist who has previously written for The Kansas City Star, Palm Beach Post and KU’s hometown newspaper, the Lawrence Journal-World.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF this institution is taxpayer funded, it should have no problems in meeting his request for only as much as it has to pay in copying, or handling, fees; this is thoroughly outrageous, and makes utterly no sense, except for attempting to squeeze this guy financially, as though he were a tube of toothpaste.

TRUMP TO USE FEDERAL FUNDS TO PROP UP US BOMB MAKERS

Welcome to US direct investment in the military-industrial complex.

President Donald Trump has approved direct federal investment in suppliers of American bomb parts and chemicals, part of as much as $250 million in direct investments by the Pentagon, reports The Military Times.

The government funding for those suppliers, under the Defense Production Act, is meant to lift a sub sector of the defense-industrial base that the Pentagon deems weak. It’s also a significant step in broader plans within the administration to remedy fragile markets and foreign dependencies among the military’s suppliers, according to the Times.

“There will be many more of these to come to address gaps and vulnerabilities in the defense-industrial base,” Peter Navarro, director of the White House Office of Trade and Industrial Policy, said. “This is exactly what we should be doing and an example of how the administration is more attentive to the issue.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Apparently, the obscene profits being made right now, in the military industrial complex, are absolutely NOT enough for them to be able to move forward to modernize the US's weaponry program, so they are, again, whining and suckling at the breasts of We the Taxpayers, to the tune of $250 million.

The question I have to ask, is, please, where is this money coming from?!?

And there is no period of public discussion on this?!?

A Convenient Killing of US Troops in Syria

With unseemly haste, US news media leapt on the killing of four American military personnel in Syria as a way to undermine President Donald Trump’s plan to withdraw troops from that country.

The deadly attack in the northern city of Manbij, on the west bank of the Euphrates River, was reported to have been carried out by a suicide bomber. The Islamic State (ISIS) terror group reportedly claimed responsibility, but the group routinely makes such claims which often turn out to be false.
