US withdraws from Unesco over 'anti-Israel bias'

The United States has withdrawn from Unesco over what it claims is the organisation's "continuing anti-Israel bias".

The US State Department recently announced its intention to withdraw from the UN's cultural, scientific and educational organisation and become a permanent observer instead.

"This decision was not taken lightly, and reflects US concerns with mounting arrears at Unesco, the need for fundamental reform in the organisation, and continuing anti-Israel bias at Unesco," the State Department said in a statement.

The country hopes to remain a non-member observer state, in order to contribute US opinions and expertise on issues like press freedoms and protecting world heritage, according to the Department. The decision will take effect at the end of 2018.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, in President Trump's world view, no matter how many Palestinian homes are demolished in the West Bank or East Jerusalem; no matter how many Palestinian children are killed or tortured in jail by the IDF in order to exact "confessions" from them; no matter how deeply Israel's "final solution" to the "Palestinian Problem prevents Palestinians from getting desperately needed medical care outside of Gaza; the government of Israel, fronted by their evil incarnate Prime Minister Netanyahu, can do utterly no wrong.

With that being said, and understanding that Netanyahu is one of the most influential of President Trump's "whisperers", look for a US-sponsored war against Iran to begin in the not too distant future, bringing back the draft, and engaging with Russia over Iran, as Russian military and civilian leaders have sworn to protect it, should it come under US attack.

Israel has been cheerleading for decades for regime change in Tehran; what President Trump needs to understand, and sadly, does not, is that Tel Aviv is counting on the costs of such a war to be primarily borne by American blood and American money.

NATO LAUNCHES NEW BLACK SEA FORCE TO TARGET RUSSIA

NATO has announced the launching of their multinational Black Sea Force, based in Romania, and including an entire Romanian brigade of 4,000 troops. The force is there to target Russia in the Black Sea region.

Romania insisted the deployment is “not a threat to Russia” and that the purpose of having more troops there to “target” Russia is “peace, not war.” 900 US troops were deployed to Romania to participate in this force.

Since Russia doesn’t border NATO anywhere in the Black Sea region, the force appears to be largely pointless, except for additional grandstanding about NATO’s “readiness” for a fight with “invading” Russian forces, in an invasion that’s been predicted for years.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The politicians of Romania appear to be incapable of logic; why in the name of heaven would Russia want to invade Romania, and risk a war with NATO because of doing such a thing?!?

The short answer is, Putin would never do this.

This NATO naval fleet is simply another annoyance and provocation of Russia, which has done absoutely nothing to earn it.

Armed Robots Could Soon Be Seen in Ukraine Conflict

Are we on the verge of entering the age of robotic warfare?

Russian-backed troops in Ukraine could soon be facing armed ground robots in battle. Ukrainian military leaders proudly displayed their Phantom robot at the Association of the U.S. Army annual meeting in Washington, D.C. on Monday, Defense One reports. The robot is currently in an experimental phase, but reportedly could be used in combat in Ukraine as early as next year.

Depending on the terrain, the Phantom (also spelled Fantom) can be outfitted with treads like a tank or wheels. It can also be armed with anti-tank weapons, grenade launchers or machine guns.

The Phantom is also equipped with a backup microwave-communication link, which allows it to continue operating even if its connection with the operator has been jammed or hacked.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Is this article telegraphing that the Government of the Occupied, Unhinged, Surveilled States of America will be at war with Russia in Ukraine the biginning of next year?!?

I sincerely hope not!!

FENTANYL MAKER DONATES BIG TO CAMPAIGN OPPOSING POT LEGALIZATION

An embattled pharmaceutical company that sells the powerful painkiller fentanyl has donated $500,000 toward defeating a ballot initiative that would make recreational use of marijuana legal under Arizona law.

It’s hard to imagine a more sinister donor than Insys Therapeutics Inc. in the eyes of pot legalization proponents, who long have claimed drug companies want to keep cannabis illegal to corner the market for drugs, some addictive and dangerous, that relieve pain and other symptoms.

Insys currently markets just one product, according to an August filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission: a sublingual fentanyl spray it calls Subsys.

Two former company employees pleaded not guilty last month to federal charges related to an alleged kickback scheme to get doctors to prescribe Subsys.

Webmaster's Commentary:

this is a consistent pattern, courtesy of oipioid manufacturers, to keep healthier pain-reducing products not available from public consumption, while pushing their own products which are both gravely addictive, and potentially lethal.

Google’s Home Mini Needed a Software Patch to Stop Some of Them from Recording Everything

Categorize this under “one of the worst possible PR nightmares for a Google smart speaker.” According to Artem Russakovskii at Android Police, the Google Home Mini he was reviewing was randomly and near-constantly recording sounds in his home and transmitting them to Google. The company acknowledged the problem and is issuing a software update to resolve the issue, which appears to boil down to a failure of the touch sensor on the top.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a surveillance mechanism, pure and simple; Mike and I would never allow something like this in our homes, and neither should you!!

Even if Google swears that the problem is" fixed", I wouldn't trust this to be true at all.

Most Americans Say Trump Making North Korea Situation Worse

WASHINGTON (AP) — North Korea’s nuclear weapons development is spooking most Americans, and two-thirds of them say President Donald Trump’s war of words with the isolated nation’s leader is making the situation worse. Less than 1 in 10 thinks Trump’s comments are making it better.
Those are the findings of a poll by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, as tensions between the adversaries escalate and North Korea comes closer to its goal of having a nuclear-tipped missile that could strike the continental U.S.

(*For the record , I disagree with the concept that most Americans oppose Trump , on this , or torture , or stumping the first amendment during Flag Gate . Trump Looks Set to Start Blowing Up the Iran Deal

Decertification would begin a 60-day congressional review period during which the administration may propose legislation to “strengthen” the agreement and Congress may decide to re-impose sanctions, according to The Washington Post.

If Trump pursues this strategy, he will be going against his own secretary of defense, James Mattis, who told the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday that the deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was in the national security interest of the U.S.

He will also be going against the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Joseph Dunford, who told the committee in a written statement last month that “The briefings I have received indicate that Iran is adhering to its JCPOA obligations.”>>>

Trump's New Gitmo Policy: Let Hunger Strikers Starve to Death

Disturbing news from Guantánamo, via the human rights organization Reprieve. Yesterday, in a press release, Reprieve explained that the authorities at Guantánamo have stopped force-feeding hunger-striking prisoners, a practice that has existed for ten years, because of a new Trump administration policy.”
Hunger strikers have existed at Guantánamo almost since the prison opened, and in 2013 a prison-wide hunger strike drew worldwide condemnation for President Obama’s inaction in moving towards closing the prison, as he had promised on his second day in office. Inconvenienced by Republican lawmakers, who had raised considerable obstacles to the release of prisoners, Obama had chosen not to challenge the Republicans, and had, instead, done nothing.>>>

Trump's Justice Department moves on Harvey Weinstein and orders FBI to open probe over fears he will 'do a Polanski'

The FBI has opened an investigation into Harvey Weinstein, DailyMail.com has exclusively learned.

DailyMail.com understands the move came at the behest of the Department of Justice, run by Donald Trump's Attorney General Jeff Sessions, which instructed the bureau to investigate the mounting allegations leveled at the movie mogul.

While it is unknown whether the DOJ order came directly from Sessions, the move is likely to be seen in a political light given Weinstein's friendship with Trump foe Hillary Clinton.

The move by the DOJ came amid rumors that Weinstein plans to head to Europe for sex rehab – leading to fears of a Roman Polanski-style situation where he dodges prosecution in the U.S.

Bump Stock Ban Retroactively Criminalizes Possession of Legally Acquired Products

The proposed ban on bump stocks not only applies to a wide, vague range of firearm accessories, as Christian Britschgi noted this morning. The House of Saud bows to the House of Putin – Pepe Escobar

Saudi Arabia pivots to Russia, the new sheriff in town.

What a difference a year – an eternity in geopolitics – makes. The House of Saud was horrified by Russia’s successful campaign to prevent regime change in Syria. Moscow was solidifying its alliance with Tehran. Hawks in the Obama administration were imposing on Saudi Arabia a strategy of keeping oil prices down to hurt the Russian economy.

How Puerto Rico can rebuild and become a powerhouse economy

The establishment of an Economic Freedom Zone, would set off an explosion of growth.

Two simple but powerful steps taken by Congress could hasten recovery and redefine the trajectory of the island’s future. First, the United States should assume all of Puerto Rico’s outstanding bond debt. Second, in exchange for debt assumption, the federal government should establish the island as an Economic Freedom Zone. Within a year, these reforms would help rebuild Puerto Rico; within a decade, they could rebuild our conception of the free market in the Western Hemisphere.

Transgender teddy, girl pirate: authors tackle gender norms at Frankfurt Book Fair

Visitors at this week's Frankfurt book fair, the world's largest publishing event, will be faced with a string of books for young readers that defy stereotypes and navigate today's hot-button issues of transsexuality and gender fluidity.

Stories with transgender lead characters in particular have broken one of the last "taboos" left in children's writing, said literary expert Nicola Bardola.

"Some are watching this trend nervously, these kinds of books still make critics uncomfortable," Swiss-born Bardola said, an author himself.

One of the most headline-grabbing recent titles has been "Introducing Tilly", a tender story about Thomas the teddy bear who tells a friend: "I've always known that I'm a girl teddy, not a boy teddy."

Trump’s Nuclear Ambitions Angered Tillerson and Worried Military Leaders

***
Apparently, after a slide show briefing showing the decline of U.S. nuclear stockpiles from the 1960s to now, Trump reportedly commented that he wanted to increase those numbers, by nearly tenfold.

That wasn’t the point of the slideshow, but he missed it.

According to the officials present, Trump’s advisers, among them the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, were surprised. Officials briefly explained the legal and practical impediments to a nuclear buildup and how the current military posture is stronger than it was at the height of the build-up. In interviews, they told NBC News that no such expansion is planned.

The July 20 meeting was described as a lengthy and sometimes tense review of worldwide U.S. forces and operations. It was soon after the meeting broke up that officials who remained behind heard Tillerson say that Trump is a “moron.”

So it wasn’t actually about the Boy Scout Jamboree speech.

Seriously… how many nuclear weapons do you need to get the job done?>>>
