SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 18, 2018: SYRIAN ARMY LIBERATED ANOTHER GROUP OF SETTLEMENTS EAST OF GOLANS

Militants are losing more and more areas in southern Syria to the advancing government troops.

Over the past day, units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), the National Defense Forces (NDF) and the Tiger Forces have restored control of al-Mal, Aqrabah, al-Alamiyah and the surrounding hills following a series of brief clashes with local militants.

The SAA and the NDF have also entered the villages of Nimer and Jasim where a local reconciliation agreement has been reached. The town of Nawa remains in the hands of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and its allies. It’s the last real strongpoint of militants northwest of Daraa city.

The Syrian state-run media also declared that the towns of Busra al-Sham and Hirak are fully secured after militants had surrendered weapons there under the previously reached deal.

Huge US Weapons Cache Found in al-Qaeda Base in “Rebel”-Held Syria

The existence of the weapons cache was announced by Fares Shehabi, Member of the Syrian parliament for Aleppo, and Chairman of the Syrian Federation of Industry, on Twitter.

“We would like to thank the Trump admin for tons of US weapons & ammo delivered to jihadi radicals in #Daraa and just got confiscated by the “Assad regime” forces! The rest of these weapons are still with al-Qaeda terrorists. The Syrian army will get it all,” Shehabi wrote.

Syrian War Report – July 17, 2018: Militants Are On Full Retreat In Southern Syria

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies have liberated the settlements of Al-Harra, Nimer, Umm al-Awsaj and the hills of Harra and Ahmar as well as some other points in the area north of Daraa city in southern Syria from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

The town of Nawa has remained one of the key militant defense points in the area east of the Golan Heights. Once it falls, the defense of militant groups will fully collapse.

Meanwhile, reports appeared that some FSA units in the area have requested a ceasefire and negotiations with the Syrian-Russian-Iranian alliance to reach a comprehensive reconciliation agreement. According to reports, a moderate part of the militants want to surrender their weapons and to settle their legal status with the Damascus government. However, agreement has not yet been reached.

GOP Sen Kennedy: I Told Russia’s ‘Wise-Ass’ Foreign Minister ‘Stop Screwing with American Elections’

Monday on CNN’s “At This Hour,” Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) said while he was in Russia he told “wise-ass” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to “stop screwing with American elections.”

Kennedy said, “I went for two reasons. Number one, to deliver a message. I delivered that to the foreign minister, to the speaker of the house, and to a number of their senators. This is what I said: number one, stop screwing with American elections. Number two, get out of eastern Ukraine and let them self-determine. Number three, get out of Crimea and let Crimea self-determine. Number four, stop screwing around in Syria and help us settle the mess. And number five, do not allow Iran to get a foothold in southern Syria. Because if you do that, there’s going to be another war. Israel is not going to stand for it. They were rough meetings.”

US And Allies Planning Evacuation Of White Helmets From Syria

Perhaps we are about to witness the final chapter to the controversial White Helmets saga?

As we've detailed many times before both the West and the group's leadership have long claimed it's nothing but a humanitarian non-governmental organization (NGO) devoted to rescuing Syrian's in the midst of war; however, new reports reveal the US and UK are mulling plans to evacuate the group's members who, far from being a "neutral" NGO, are funded by Western governments which have simultaneously sought the ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

US government officials say White Helmets members are in "imminent danger" and face the threat of assassination as pro-government forces advance deeper into southwest Syria.

US Airstrike Kills 54 Civilians Near Abu Kamal in Push to Control Syrian Border

Around midnight on Friday, U.S.-led coalition warplanes in Syria conducted intensive airstrikes near Abu Kamal in the Deir ez-Zor province, with estimates of civilian casualties ranging from 30 to 54. Syrian state media agency SANA has claimed that at least 30 were killed and that most of the dead were women and children. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), often cited by international and particularly Western media, has asserted that 54 were killed.

According to local reports, the U.S.-led coalition strikes targeted the towns of al-Souseh and al-Baghouz Fowqani, east of the Euphrates river in the countryside around Abu Kamal. The bombings resulted in dozens of houses in the towns collapsing, resulting in numerous civilian deaths, as whole families were crushed by the rubble while they were sleeping.

Syrian Government Targets Rebels Near Israel-Occupied Golan

Syrian government forces unleashed hundreds of missiles on a rebel-held area near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Sunday, activists said, the latest phase in an offensive to clear southern Syria of insurgents.

The government's push came after it had secured control of most of Daraa province in an offensive that began in June. On Sunday, the first batch of armed fighters and their families left the city of Daraa, the provincial capital, in buses that would take them to the rebel-held Idlib province in the north.

Kurdish Fighters Selling US-Supplied Weapons on Black Market – Reports

The US provides weapons and other military equipment to allied Kurds fighting in Northern Syria.

Just as Washington has ramped up its support for Kurdish units in Syria, the fighters are selling their US-made weapons on the black market to make up for their expenses, the Arabic-language Daily Sabah reported, citing local sources in Northern Syria.

In keeping with an agreement between the US and Turkey, the Kurdish forces are to withdraw from Manbij and other areas west of the Euphrates River and surrender their weapons to the UN before the end of this year.

According to the sources, the Kurdish fighters fear that once they have handed over their weapons, Turkey might launch a new military operation against them in Northern Syria.

"Hence, they are selling the weapons to other militant groups that operate in the same region," they added.

US Message To Assad: "We Will Pull Out Of Syria If Iran Withdraws"

As Presidents Trump and Putin are set to meet Monday in Helsinki, efforts toward winding down the proxy war in Syria will no doubt be high on the agenda.

We explained previously that the diplomatic cards for ending the war seem to have fallen into place as just days before the historic summit Netanyahu said in a stunning turnaround for Israeli policy fresh off his own visit with Putin in Moscow that "Israel does not object to President Bashar al-Assad’s regaining control over all of Syria" so long as Iranian forces are pushed back from the Israeli border, according to the New York Times.

And now according to a new bombshell report, US military commanders have conveyed to Syrian President Assad via Russian mediation that "we will pull out of al-Tanf and the North if Iran withdraws from Syria."

Israel Attacks Airbase Outside Northern Syrian City of Aleppo

Israel attacks Syrian military targets seemingly several times per week at this point. On Sunday, however, they carried out a very rare flurry of missile strikes in the far north of Syria, hitting Nayrab military airport in Aleppo.

Nayrab is being called an “Iranian-linked base” by Israeli media, and is adjacent to the international airport there. The attacks were confirmed by several different outlets, but exactly what was accomplished in the attack is disputed.

Syrian state media outlet SANA said only damage to material was accomplished, while other outlets reported multiple casualties, including at least two dead Syrian soldiers from the strike. There is no official report on casualties yet.

The Israeli military, as usual, offered no comment on the strikes, saying they don’t comment on reports which emerged in foreign media. Israeli media outlets are generally treating this as a probable attack, however, making it the third Israeli strike in Syria in the past week.

Netanyahu, Trump discuss Iran, Syria ahead of Helsinki summit

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday that he had discussed with US President Donald Trump issues related to Iran and Syria ahead of Trump’s summit with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin in the Finnish capital, Helsinki.

“On Saturday evening, I spoke with US President Donald Trump over the telephone and discussed security and diplomatic issues in light of developments in the region, with Syria and Iran first and foremost, of course”, Netanyahu said during the Israeli cabinet’s weekly meeting.

“As you know, these issues will also come up at the president’s summit in Helsinki. Of course I discussed them with President Putin last Wednesday”, he added.

Netanyahu praised in his remarks what he described as the US President’s “firm policy” towards Iran, adding that since the policy was adopted “we have seen its significant impact on Iran”.

Militants are set to surrender more wepons and equipment in the coming days.

Additionally, the SAA and its allies have continued attacking positions of radical armed groups, including Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda), in the provinces of Daraa and Quneitra.

Neocons Panic As Trump-Putin Meeting Could Mark Close Of Syrian Proxy War

When multiple op-ed pieces appear in the pages of the New York Times, Washington Post, and the CFR-owned Foreign Affairs authored by neocons simultaneously pleading with Trump Don't Get Out of Syria(!) all within the same week, this is typically an indicator that the president is about to do something good.

Trump is set to meet with Putin one-on-one this coming Monday in Helsinki after a contentious NATO summit and a sufficiently awkward visit with Theresa May, and mainstream pundits' heads are exploding.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 13, 2018: SYRIAN ARMY LIBERATED DARAA CITY

In the evening of July 12th, units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the Russian Military Police entered the southern, militant-held part of Daraa city de-facto restoring the government control of the area.

This part of the city had been in the hands of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and its allies since 2012.

At the same time, militants started surrendering their remaining positions south of the city. These developments are a part of the reconciliation reached between the leaders of militant groups and the Damascus government with assistance of Russia.

Separately, government forces also entered the villages of Kafr Shams, Inkhil and Muzayrib in western Daraa.

‘They Bombed Trapped Civilians’: Amnesty’s Damning Report on UK, US, France Destruction in Raqqa

UK, US, and French bombs inflicted mass loss of civilian life in ISIS-held Raqqa, according Amnesty International. A new report has also accused coalition forces of bombing areas where they knew civilians were trapped.

During the four-month operation to eradicate the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) in the Syrian city of Raqqa, the US-led coalition – which includes British forces – killed hundreds of civilians and injured many more, says Amnesty International.

According to its damning report into the coalition forces, residents were trapped as fighting raged in the streets between IS militants and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), who were supported by coalition airstrikes. Escape routes for civilians were riddled with IEDs, put there by Islamic State, which also positioned snipers to shoot those trying to flee.

After shooting down a drone crossing in from Syria early in the morning, the Israeli Air Force attacked three Syrian Army posts on Wednesday, saying it was punishment for the drone itself, which they blamed on the military.

Syrian state media reported that the Syrian air defenses in the border areas intercepted some of the Israeli missiles fired in, stopping attacks in the village of Hader, and ensuring the attack caused only material damage.

There were no reports of casualties afrer the attack, either from Israel or Syria. This is the second time this week that Syria has reported intercepting Israeli missiles, and sustaining a military attack without any casualties.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 12, 2018: SYRIAN ARMY RETAKES MORE VILLAGES IN SOUTHERN SYRIA

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies regained the areas of Tafas, Yadudah and Tal Ashary in the northwestern countryside of Daraa after militants there had surrendered. Units of the Russian Military Police were deployed in Tafas.

Separately, government forces seized French-made APILAS anti-tank weapons from local members of the Free Syrian Army. According to Syrian pro-government activists, these weapons were supplied to militants through Jordan.

The SAA also repelled an ISIS attack in the key hills of Brakat and Alia in eastern al-Suwayda killing several members of ISIS. According to pro-militant sources, there were also casualties among SAA troops.

On July 10 and 11, the Syrian Air Force carried out a series of strikes on positions of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and its allies in al-Rami, Mozra, al-Najeya, Kinda, Urum al-Jawz, Frikeh, Muhambal and Bsanqul in the province of Idlib.

GAME CHANGER: AXIS HAS ISRAEL ON THE RETREAT

Long live the Syrian Arab Republic! Just about 24 hours ago, the usurping Zionist cancer launched an aggression on the military positions of the Syrian Arab Army at T-4 Airbase in Homs.

But the ‘Israelis’, in their ever-self-damning arrogance, didn’t expect the situation to unfold as it did. F-16s of the Jewish terrorist “state” fired a slew of missiles, which didn’t do any harm at all. No martyrs and no wounded from the Syrian side. Then, as the ‘Israeli’ occupation air force came back around for a second assault, Syria’s air defense systems anticipated the maneuver and blasted one of the illegitimate Zionist entity’s birds RIGHT OUTTA THE SKY and sent the rest of the invaders scurrying away in a cloud of rocketry.

Syrian air defense repels Israeli strike on military positions in al-Quneitra — SANA

Syria’s air defense forces have repelled an Israeli attack near the city of al-Quneitra (some 40 kilometers of Damascus) in the Golan Heights, SANA news agency said on Thursday. According to SANA, the Israeli air strike was delivered at military positions near the settlements of Hodor, Tell Kurum and Jbaa. A Syrian military source told the news agency that Israeli warplanes had fired several missiles. Some of them were downed. He said the attack had incurred only material damage, no one had been hurt. On May 10, Syria’s army downed dozens of missiles fired from Israeli warplanes at army positions near the city of al-Baath in the Golan Heights. This attack was part of a more massive Israeli strike. The Russian defense ministry said back then that the Israel Defense Forces had fired more than 70 missiles at Syria’s territory under the pretext of shelling of its positions in the Golan Heights. Israel used 28 F-15 and F-16 warplanes to deliver the strike.

A modified T-55 tank likely captured from Syrian forces earlier was also found.

Israel ‘not ruling out’ eventual ties with Syria’s Assad

Israel held out the prospect on Tuesday of eventual contacts with Syria under President Bashar al-Assad, in a nod to his regime-consolidating advances in a seven-year-old civil war that Israeli officials had initially predicted would topple him.

Assad’s Russia-backed forces have advanced in southwest Syria and are on course to reach Quneitra, a rebel-held district abutting the Golan Heights frontier with Israel. That has stirred Israeli concern that he may try to deploy troops there in defiance of a 1974 UN demilitarisation accord on the Golan.

Touring the Israeli-occupied Golan, Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman ramped up threats to use armed force should Damascus encroach militarily. “Any Syrian soldier who will be in the buffer zone risks his life,” Lieberman told reporters.

However, Lieberman appeared to signal acknowledgment that Assad would regain control of the Syrian side of the Golan.

Netanyahu May Offer Putin US Sanctions Relief for Ousting Iran From Syria

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday. Early reports are suggesting Netanyahu is going to offer a major trade with an eye toward getting Russia to kick the Iranians out of Syria.

This trade, as reported by the Israeli press, would have Netanyahu offering to see Russia given full relief from US-imposed sanctions in return for Russia expelling Iranian military from Syria. Russia has previously told Israel they don’t have the capability of doing so, and that the Iranian presence is up to Syria.

It’s less discussed in the media reports, but it’s also not clear that Netanyahu could deliver his side of this exchange either. Israel, after all, is not driving US sanctions against Russia, and presumably could not immediately demand and secure full sanction relief.

Corpses still rot under Raqqa rubble after US-backed liberation – but West nowhere to be seen

Scores of corpses are still being dug up from the ruins of Raqqa, one year after its US-backed liberation from IS, but the West is seemingly in no rush to help the community recover. RT takes a look at the city’s plight.

Once a prosperous and vibrant place, Raqqa emerged from the 2017 liberation operation with 90 percent of its buildings blasted into ruin. The city suffered almost complete destruction as US-backed coalition airstrikes pounded Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) forces holed up in it. A year on, the fighting has stopped, but streets lie in ruin and dead bodies are still being dug up daily from beneath the rubble and mass graves.

OPCW CERTIFIED: Chemical weapons “attack” in Douma, Syria was ISIS/White Helmets false flag

The OPCW issued an interim report that states no traces of any nerve agents have been found at the site of a suspected chemical attack in the Syrian city of Douma.

The report noted that several chlorine compounds were detected, but those compounds are commonly found in industrial areas and often times are byproducts of water purification systems. The interim OPCW document said “various chlorinated organic chemicals were found in samples” from two locations in the Damascus suburb of Douma, which were examined by specialists from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

The report confirmed the absence of any traces of nerve agents, such as sarin, at the site.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 10, 2018: GOVERNMENT FORCES LIBERATED ALL BORDER POINTS SOUTH OF DARAA

On July 9, units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), assisted by the Russian Military Police, retook all militant positions on the Syrian-Jordanian border south of the city of Daraa. So, the SAA fully encircled the remaining militant positions in and near the city.

On July 10, Russian-backed negotiations between the Damascus government and militants in the area continued. However, if militant groups continue refusing to surrender, they will face military action, which they will find hard to contain.

Thus, despite hysteria in the mainstream media and multiple anti-Russian and anti-government statements by representatives of the so-called moderate opposition, they have few options and little time to decide.

Russian officers deliver aid to Syria’s southernmost settlement

Russian military servicemen have delivered humanitarian aid to Syria’s southernmost inhabited community of al-Mutaya, which has joined the reconciliation process in the Daraa province, the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Sides reported. Essential goods were distributed not far from the inhabited community. More than 4 tonnes of food and 15 tonnes of water were distributed. Security was maintained by Russian military police and Syrian troops. "Today we brought the items, which will help them overcome the hardships experienced today by such remote settlements that had been under the control of militants for many years," the center’s Chief Major-General Alexei Tsygankov told reporters. He noted that the inhabited community was facing a humanitarian disaster because of militants’ actions who refused to provide access to relief aid in the areas controlled by them.

Syrian state media says air defences hit Israeli plane, thwart missile strike

Syrian military air defences struck an Israeli warplane and shot down Israeli missiles targeting the T4 air base in Homs province in response to an act of "aggression" on Sunday night, Syrian state media said.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said Israel does not comment on foreign reports.

Israel has grown deeply alarmed by the expanding clout of its arch enemy Iran during the seven-year war in neighbouring Syria. Israel's air force has struck scores of targets it describes as Iranian deployments or arms transfers to Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah.

Damascus, as well as its allies Iran and Russia, blamed Israel for an April 9 air strike on the same Homs base, an attack that killed seven Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) members. Tehran vowed at the time to respond.

"No Nerve Agents" In Douma: OPCW Report Demolishes White House Sarin Narrative

A preliminary report published Friday by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) found no traces of any nerve agent at the site of a suspected chemical attack in the Syrian city of Douma. The OPCW report states this unambiguously as follows:

"No organophosphorous nerve agents or their degradation products were detected in the environmental samples or in the plasma samples taken from alleged casualties."

Compare the newly published official OPCW findings with the 5-page White House assessment released on April 13th, just days after the alleged attack. Now contradicted by the new OPCW findings, the White House asserted that sarin was used at Douma,

A significant body of information points to the regime using chlorine in its bombardment of Duma, while some additional information points to the regime also using the nerve agent sarin.

SOUTH SYRIAN REBELS AGREE SURRENDER DEAL, ASSAD TAKES CROSSING

South Syrian rebels agreed to give up arms in a Russian-brokered ceasefire deal on Friday, rebel sources said, surrendering Deraa province to the government in another major victory for President Bashar al-Assad and his Russian allies, reports Reuters.

The Syrian government recovered the Nassib border crossing with Jordan, held by rebels for three years, state media reported, after an assault in insurgent territory along the frontier backed by Russian air strikes.

A state television correspondent said the rebels had agreed to hand over heavy and medium weapons in all the towns and cities included in the surrender deal.

Rebel sources said Russia would guarantee the safe return of civilians who fled the government offensive in the biggest exodus of the war, with 320,000 people uprooted.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Good on the Russians for having negotiated this deal; they have saved a lot of future bloodshed by getting the rebels to surrender, and at this point, are really looking like the "Adults in the Room" when it comes to Syrian geopolitics.

Which is why the onus is on you, not those you accuse, to explain yourselves.

Israel airstrike hits Syrian army position in occupied Golan Heights

An Israeli military aircraft has targeted a Syrian army position in the Golan Heights after a projectile allegedly fired from Syria landed in the occupied territory.

An unnamed commander of Syria’s pro-government popular defense groups said the aerial attack struck a hill in Khan Arnabeh village of the country's strategic southwestern region of Quneitra near the border with Israeli-controlled Palestinian territories on Friday but did not cause any casualties.

Earlier, the Israeli army announced in a statement that an errant projectile had landed adjacent to and east of the fence between occupied Palestinian territories and Syria, noting that the round was a result of fighting between Syrian army forces and militant groups in the area.

During the past few years, Israel has frequently attacked military targets in Syria in what is considered as an attempt to prop up terrorist groups that have been suffering heavy defeats against Syrian government forces.

Israel lays down red lines for postwar relations with Syria

As Syrian government forces press on with a furious offensive against rebel-held areas in the country's south, Israel is quietly acknowledging that President Bashar Assad's forces will soon be on its doorstep, laying down red lines for postwar relations with the Syrian leader.

Israel's main concern is to keep archrival Iran, an Assad ally, as far away from its border as possible — along with its proxy, the Lebanese militia Hezbollah.

"Our demand is that the Iranian forces will go out or withdraw from Syria as a whole, and in it specifically southwest Syria," said a senior Israeli military official.

It is a turnaround from a few years ago, when Israeli leaders were publicly predicting Assad's overthrow and some voices even mused about peace with a future democratic Syria.

The Battle in the South of Syria is Coming to an End: Israel Bowed To Russia’s Will

After only two weeks since the beginning of the military operation, jihadists and militants in most of eastern rural Daraa in south Syria have either surrendered or were overwhelmed, the over 70 villages they occupied were liberated by the Syrian Army. Meanwhile, Israel has reduced its requests or conditions pronounced in the last two weeks: from launching threats against the approach of the Syrian Army towards the South, to menaces if Damascus pushes forces beyond the 1974 demarcation line and the disengagement agreement between Syria and Israel. This clearly means all players (the US, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia) have dropped the jihadists and militants they were training and are turning their back on them: they are now on their own.

Is the US-Kurdish Alliance Over? New Agreement Between Kurds and Assad Could Spell End for U.S. Role in Syria

For over a year, much of northeastern Syria has found itself under de facto occupation by the United States and its military proxy, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The occupied territory, accounting for nearly a third of Syria’s total landmass and including large portions of the al-Hasakah, al-Raqqa and Deir Ez-Zor regions, has largely been overseen by the SDF, an umbrella group of militias dominated by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), which allied with the U.S. early in the conflict.

While the SDF has seemingly had complete control of the occupied territory — which boasts most of Syria’s oil, gas, freshwater and agricultural resources — it seems that increased local resistance to the SDF’s control of the region, as well as the U.S.’ failure to protect its allies elsewhere in Syria, has now pushed the YPG to reconsider its alliance with the United States and instead consider allying with the Syrian government, led by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Secret US 2006 Gov’t Document Reveals Plan To Destabilize Syria By Using Extremists, Muslim Brotherhood, Elections

By Brandon Turbeville

As the Syrian government makes massive gains across the country, many are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel for the Western destabilization and attempt to destroy the secular government of Syria by the United States and the West. However, it must be remembered that the goal to impose hegemony across the world by the Anglo-financier system is not some fly-by-night venture that cropped up in 2011 to be easily abandoned in 2018. Indeed, the plan to destroy Syria has spanned nearly four decades, only moving into high gear in 2011 under the Obama administration.

While the destabilization initiative did begin in earnest under Obama’s watch, the truth is that previous administration were also heavily involved in the planning of Syria’s destruction.

Syrian rebels lose string of southwest towns

A string of Syrian rebel-held towns and villages accepted government rule on Saturday as insurgent lines collapsed in parts of the southwest under an intense bombardment that the United Nations says has forced 160,000 people to flee.

The southwest was an early hotbed of the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad and defeat there would leave rebels with just one remaining stronghold — the area around Idlib province bordering Turkey in the northwest.

Rebels met Russian negotiators on Saturday to seek peace terms for Deraa province, where most of their southwest territory is located, but said these failed. Moscow is Assad’s strongest ally and its air power since 2015 has been crucial to his recapture of vast swathes of Syria.

IDF reinforcements seen as a message to Assad: Don’t enter demilitarized zone

Israel’s deployment of reinforcements to the Golan Heights is a message to Syrian dictator Bashar Assad as his forces draw closer to the Israeli border, an Israeli analyst said Sunday.

"There was no need to inform Parliament of this action…only in the event that civilian casualties have resulted from a RAF strike would the [defense secretary] inform parliament of events," he added.

Lieberman: Israel will not accept Syria refugees

Israel will not allow any Syrian refugees to enter its territory but will continue to provide them with humanitarian aid, Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman said today.

More than 150,000 people in southwestern Syria have been forced to flee since the Syrian government launched an offensive to recover an area bordering Jordan and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights from opposition groups, a monitoring group said.

The Israeli military said an increased number of Syrian civilians had been spotted in refugee camps on the Syrian side of the Israel occupied Golan Heights over the past few days, and that it had overnight sent aid supplies at four locations “to Syrians fleeing hostilities”.

1,000 Surrender to Syrian Army in Southern Amnesty Offer

Syrian state media is reporting that an estimated 1,000 wanted men in southern Syria’s Daraa Province surrendered to the army on Wednesday. This included members of rebel groups, as well as draft dodgers and others.

This was part of an attempted reconciliation effort. The Syrian government promised amnesty, saying they’d clear the records of everyone who reached out to the army for a surrender instead of waiting to be captured.

The Syrian government is planning a large offensive in Daraa, one of the last rebel-held areas in the country’s south. There are some moderate rebel groups in the area, along with al-Qaeda’s Nusra Front.
