Linking Charlottesville to Assad – latest witch hunt of the US war lobby

It didn’t take long for the pro-war US Establishment to exploit the tragedy in Charlottesville (in which one left-wing protestor was killed), to further their campaign for regime change in Syria.

Soon after the identity of the man who was at the wheel of the car that ploughed into demonstrators in Virginia was revealed, reports began to circulate that James Alex Fields, Jnr had a picture of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on his Facebook page with the inscription ‘Undefeated’.

Got that? Fields was an Assad fan boy! That proves we’ve got to keep on trying to topple him! That was the conclusion we peasants were clearly meant to be drawing.

If Assad Is “Killing His Own People” Why Are They Rushing Back To Him?

By Brandon Turbeville

As the mainstream corporate press attempts to guilt Westerners over making Syrian refugees return home, Western outlets are, in fact, deconstructing their own propaganda narrative for all to see.

For instance, according to the International Organization for Migration, more than 600,000 Syrians have returned home to Syria since the beginning of 2017, more than the number of returning refugees in the entire year of 2016...

STATE DEPARTMENT: US NOT to remain in Syria after ISIS “defeat”

US State Department Spokeswoman Heather Nauert has responded to questions from reporters about reports from Kurdish militants who last week stated that the US plans to remain in Syria for “decades”. Nauert refuted these claims by stating the following, “Syria must be governed by its own people and not by the United States or other force”. She added that the US intends to “defeat” ISIS and not to stay beyond this mission. This puts statements from the US and their militant Kurdish allies into direct contradiction. As I wrote recently in The Duran, “Talal Silo has said that the Kurdish fighters in Syria have reached an agreement that would imply a de-facto Kurdish entity in Syria would form under the auspices of US military occupation of the territory which is recognised by every major international body, including the United Nations as Syrian territory. The United States has yet to comment on the remarks and for good reason.

Russian planes in Syria fly 316 sorties over five days. Aleppo Governorate fully liberated from terrorists

"To eliminate the encircled terrorists trying to retreat towards Deir ez-Zor the intensity of strikes by Russian aircraft was increased to 60-70 sorties a day. Russia’s Aerospace Force carries out air reconnaissance and eliminates IS armored vehicles, pickup trucks armed with heavy weapons and truck convoys carrying ammunition round the clock. Over the past five days Russian planes flew 316 sorties to deal 819 strikes," Colonel-General Rudskoy said. In all, Rudskoy said, Russia’s planes in August carried out 990 sorties. "A total of 2,518 air strikes were dealt against command centers, positions, warehouses and transit camps of terrorists. Forty armored vehicles, 106 trucks carrying heavy machineguns and up to 800 terrorists were destroyed," he said. "The operation to recapture central Syria from terrorists is nearing completion," Rudskoy stated... "The Aleppo Governorate has been fully liberated from terrorists.

"No Future for Erdogan in Syria" - Assad

Regarding the Turkish role in Syria, Assad said that Syria sees Turkey just as one of guarantor states, involved in a new de-escalation zones agreement, along with Russia and Iran, and not as a real guarantor of peace and stability in Syria, noting that sudden Turkish cooperation with Russia is also one of the reasons of survival of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He added that Erdogan’s destructive role in Syria will never be forgotten and was eventually what turned Erdogan into a political beggar after his role in supporting terrorism was exposed, and whose future now depends on external powers and the good will of others.

Assad: Russia, Iran are friends of Syria - Turkey cannot be trusted

The West "seeks to establish a hegemony" over the Middle East - Syria, together with Russia, oppose these attempts. Such a statement was made today, on August 20, by Syrian President Bashar Assad, speaking to diplomatic staff in the Syrian Foreign Ministry. Assad noted the assistance of Russia and Iran, which, he said, "have made a big contribution to the successful actions that the Syrian army is conducting against terrorists. We are proud of the weighty support that our friends and brothers are giving us in the fight against terrorism," he stressed. "Iran from the very beginning provided us with military and economic assistance," the president said.

Video Emerges Of US Allowing ISIS Fighters To Escape Safely In Syria

Video footage obtained by Al-Masdar appears to show convoys of ISIS fighters fleeing the Syrian city of Raqqa untouched by the U.S. military, which is currently bombing that exact location. As Al-Masdar notes, despite having Kurdish and American drones hovering around the city of Raqqa, U.S. bombs are nowhere to be seen as hundreds of fighters pass safely. The release of this footage comes on the heels of accusations from both Russia and Iran that the U.S. is colluding with ISIS to allow the group’s safe passage into areas controlled by the Syrian government.

Air Force Chief: Israel Has Attacked Syrian Arms Convoys Nearly 100 Times in 5 Years: Brags That Many of Israel's Attacks Go 'Under the Radar'

Providing the most specific details yet on Israel’s ongoing series of military strikes inside war-torn Syria, Air Force Chief Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel revealed today that Israel has carried out nearly 100 distinct military actions over the last five years specifically related to what they believed were Hezbollah-bound arms convoys.

This comes less than a month after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was caught on an open microphone admitting to “dozens” of strikes in Syria, though obviously this is far greater, because many Israel strikes on Syria clearly were not Hezbollah related.

Indeed, recently reported Israeli strikes in Syria have almost always been the result of stray artillery shells landing in empty territory inside the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, and Israel responding by attacking Syrian military bases in the area.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israeli Air Force Chief Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel's testosterone-fueled hubris cannot hide the reality that these have been illegal attacks against a sovereign foreign government, which Israel was hoping to get regime-changed through their, and the US military's, efforts; they did not work.

So now, with the distinct possibility that an independent Kurdistan may well be carved out of areas of Syria, one has to wonder; just what is Israel prepared to do militarily now, to attempt to force out the existing, and duly elected, government out in Damascus?!?

U.S. forces to stay in Syria for decades, say militia allies

Washington's main Syrian ally in the fight against Islamic State says the U.S. military will remain in northern Syria long after the jihadists are defeated, predicting enduring ties with the Kurdish-dominated region.

The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of militias dominated by the Kurdish YPG, believes the United States has a "strategic interest" in staying on, SDF spokesman Talal Silo told Reuters.

"They have a strategy policy for decades to come. There will be military, economic and political agreements in the long term between the leadership of the northern areas (of Syria) ... and the U.S. administration," Silo said.

The U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State has deployed forces at several locations in northern Syria, including an airbase near the town of Kobani. It has supported the SDF with air strikes, artillery, and special forces on the ground.

Syria calls on UN force US to stop committing war crimes

Yesterday, Syria accused the US and UK of providing chemical weapons materials to terrorists in the country, a move Syria also seeks to have condemned by the UN. In a statement presented to the UN, the Syrian government has said, “Syria calls again on the UN Security Council to fulfull its obligations for the sake of peace and security, and to stop the crimes of the US-led coalition against Syrian citizens”, The statement continued, “(The actions of the US and its allies) have become systematic. The coalition neglects the basics of international law, international humanitarian law and human rights”. On Wednesday of this week alone, US airstrikes killed 19 Syrian civilians, something the government finds totally unacceptable, especially as all US actions in the country are illegal according to international law.

Syrians Are Going Home: Western Backed Terrorists Brought Nothing but Weariness, Poverty and Death

In Jaramanah, Damascus we met with many internally displaced people. The estimated 6.4 million IDPs in Syria have almost invariably, fled to Syrian government controlled areas for refuge from the US Coalition extremist factions who have driven them from their hometowns and villages across Syria. This area had historically been Druze and Christian populated. Now it has been crowded with Syrians from all walks of life, backgrounds and regions. All spoke to me of their hardship under the US Coalition armed & funded extremist & terrorist factions. Many had been driven from their homes by the armed mercenary forces, suffering hideous wounds in the process. One old man from Talbiseh in Homs had lost one leg, been shot in the spine and had his remaining foot crushed by the Nusra Front brigades who had invaded his village and driven inhabitants from their homes by force. He was selling bread on the street, provided by his wife, to pay for an apartment with no roof.

Government forces, led by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) captured more points north of the Sunbul gas station in the Ayn Tarma area in eastern Damascus. The advance came amid intense shelling of Faylaq al-Rahman positions in Ayn Tarma and Jobar conducted by the SAA 4th Armoured Division with “Volcano” and “Golan” heavy rockets.

Faylaq al-Rahman claimed that its members killed 17 SAA troops and damaged an SAA T-72AV battle tank in the recent clashes and once again accused the government forces of using chlorine gas in the area.

The chemical weapons usage accusations are a common part of PR strategy of any anti-government forces around Syria. The accusations have become especially frequent after the US missile strike on the Syrian Air Force’s Shayrat Air Base that followed the incident at Khan Shaykhun.

Potential Kurdish State Allegedly Backed by Israel May Upset Region - Politician

Tarek Ahmad, a member of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), stated that an attempt to establish an independent Kurdish state anywhere in the Middle East will really encourage multiple wars.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The creation of an independent Kurdish state in Iraq, allegedly welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, may lead to instability in the region, with Israel benefiting from the upset, Tarek Ahmad, a member of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), told Sputnik.

"An attempt to establish an independent Kurdish state anywhere in the Middle East will really encourage multiple wars because the question with the Kurds is how to draw the borders of the state. It is very dangerous for the region’s and the world’s stability," Ahmad said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Ah, but that is precisely the outcome Prime Minister Netanyahu wants to see happen; more bloody wars in the middle east, coupled with destabilisation, which insures that a balkanized Iraq never, ever has the standard of living it did under Saddam Hussein.

Official says Israeli delegation will try to persuade White House that cease-fire deal should be amended to make sure Iranian forces, Hezbollah and Shi’ite militias are kept out of Syria

A delegation of Israeli defense officials will visit Washington later this week for talks with senior White House and American defense officials. Haaretz has learned that the delegation will be headed by Mossad chief Yossi Cohen, and he will be joined by the head of the Israel Defense Forces Military Intelligence, Maj. Gen. Herzl Halevi, as well as the head of the Defense Ministry's political-security department, Zohar Palti.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mossad Chief Cohen, Maj. Gen. Herzl Halevi; and Zohar Palti, a word, please: your "defense interests" for Israel have been assured by the United States of America for generations, culminating in the defense aid package given to you by President Obama, to the tune of 38 billion dollars, over the course of a decade.

Obama hands Israel the largest military aid deal in history.

This was again topped by President Trump's aid over concerns of his Saudi weapons deal in May:

Both Presidents Obama and Trump have done this, knowing it is a violation of the Symington Amendment and the Glenn Act, which prohibits any financial aid to any country which refuses to sign the NNPT, and does not allow its nuclear weapons to be inspected: Israel fails, miserably, on both counts, but still, always gets the money it wants, while homeless American Vets sleep in our streets, and kids living in extreme poverty are horrifically food-insecure.

Israel has not been invited to the discussion between the US and Russia about the issue of peace in Syria; Russia was invited by the Syrian government to rid it of all jihadists; Israel and the United States were not.

Israel's greatest problem, is its pathological inability to get along with its regional neighbors in an intelligent, and cohesive manner; therefore, it is always demanding that "Daddy Warbucks" (read: the Unhinged, Surveilled States of America") get it out of its current self-imposed dilemma, whether it is punching up a cease fire agreement, in this case, or anything else, like "regime changing Tehran, but only with American blood and American money.

I frankly hope that the meeting goes absolutely nowhere; it may cause Israel to "play better with others" in the region. And please note: this delegation is not going to Moscow to attempt to get what it wants, from the Syrian cease fire.

Facing Defeat in Syria, the “Islamic State” (ISIS) Inexplicably Expands Globally

Facing defeat in Syria as government forces backed by its Russian and Iranian allies close in on the terrorist organization, stripping it of territory it seized, it has managed to spread far beyond Syria’s borders, establishing itself in Libya, Afghanistan, and even as far as Southeast Asia where it has seized an entire city in the Philippines’ south, and carried out attacks and conducting activities everywhere from Indonesia and Malaysia to allegedly Thailand’s deep south.

It should be remembered, according to Western governments and their media, the territory ISIS holds in Syria is allegedly providing it with the summation of its financial resources and thus the source of its fighting capacity. According to official statements, the US and its European allies allege that ISIS fuels its fighting capacity with “taxes” and extortion as well as black market oil sales – all of which are derived from territory it holds in Syria.

Deputy Director of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent “SARC” Branch in Raqqa Dina al-Asa’ad said as cited by Sana that the shelling of the National Hospital in Raqqa by the coalition with phosphorus bombs occurred on Thursday night.

Dina al-Assad reported that the warplanes carried out 20 combat sorties and targeted the hospital’s power generators, vehicles and wards.

She further said that the hospital was rendering medical services to over 100,000 population of Raqqa city, adding that ISIL was not present at all at the hospital.

In the meantime, Head of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent Fowaz al-Asaf announced that over 65 government facilities, including sugar company, have thus far been destroyed in the offensive of the US warplanes and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces in Raqqa.

Field sources reported that 30 civilians have been killed and several more have been wounded in the phosphorus bomb attacks on the state and children’s hospitals in Raqqa.

Government forces have repelled a large-scale ISIS advance in the area of Humaymah and the T2 pumping station at the Syrian-Iraqi border.

The advance started on Wednesday with an attack by ISIS suicide bombers and 5 vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices. The terrorists reportedly took 3 Syrian Arab Army (SAA) checkpoints, but failed to develop the advance. Pro-government troops, backed up by the Russian Aerospace Forces, counter-attacked and forced the terrorists to retreat.

According to ISIS, over 70 government fighters were killed in the clashes. Maj General Ghasan Yunis was reportedly among the killed servicemen. In turn, pro-government sources claimed that the SAA killed up to 80 ISIS members, destroyed several vehicles, and seized 11 other vehicles. The numbers provided by both sides look overestimated.

Syrian Arab Army (SAA) Tiger Forces and tribal forces fighters have liberated Jabir, Numaysah, Khamisiyah and Wadi Susah near the important ISIS-held town of Maadan in the province of Raqqah.

The government forces advanced amid the ongoing fighting in the area of Sukhna in the province of Homs. ISIS is desperately trying to stop the SAA advance along the Sukhna-Resafa and the Sukhna-Deir Ezzor roads and deploys reinforcements to the area. This allows government forces to advance on other frontlines.

US seeks Syria’s disintegration, including with Kurdish units’ help

Washington’s chief objective in Syria is either toppling Bashar al-Assad or destroying Syria’s integrity, in particular, with the help from Syrian Kurds’ armed groups, Boris Dolgov, Senior Research Fellow at the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Center for Arab and Islamic Studies, told a round-table dedicated to the upcoming sixth round of negotiations on the Syrian settlement in Astana. "I am confident that the United States’ objective is removing Assad from power or breaking up Syria as a country," he said. "They used to rely on Islamist forces, including extremist ones, but when this did not work, they began to support Kurdish forces vigorously." According to the expert, the fact that the Syrian Kurds set a minimum goal of a broad autonomy for the Kurds, and, as maximum, creating an independent state, is in line with Washington’s plans in the region.

Syrian army takes last town held by Islamic State in Homs

Syrian government and allied forces have taken the last major town in Homs province from the Islamic State, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Saturday, as the army advances toward militant strongholds in the east of the country.

The town of al-Sukhna lies some 50 km (30 miles) northeast of the ancient city of Palmyra, which was captured by government forces in March.

It is also 50 km from the administrative frontier of Deir al-Zor province, which is almost entirely under Islamic State control.

A Hezbollah media unit said government and allied forces were making considerable progress inside the city of Sukhna. Lebanon's Hezbollah group fights on the side of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian conflict.

Syrian state news agency SANA reported earlier on Saturday that the army was advancing into al-Sukhna from three directions.

The August 7th issue of a neoconservative Republican Party magazine, The Weekly Standard, headlines “Trump Got This One Right: Shutting down the CIA’s ghost war in Syria,” and doesn’t attack the previous, Democratic, President, for having initiated and run that “ghost war,” and doesn’t make clear what it was, or why it was being waged, but does say hostile things against the leaders both of Russia and of Syria, such as that “Putin … has the blood of many Syrian civilians on his hands,” and allegations also against the Syrian government, such as:

Russian and Syrian jets have indiscriminately and repeatedly bombed civilian targets. The Assad regime has used chemical weapons, which Trump himself objected to, bombing a Syrian airfield in response. The United States cannot endorse these war crimes by allying itself with the perpetrators of mass murder in Syria.

Al Qaeda “Mysteriously” Metastasizing in Northwest Syria

The Washington Post in an article titled, “Al-Qaida in Syria snuffs out competition in northwest,” clumsily reveals what many following the Syrian conflict have known all along – that the so-called uprising never existed, and that the US and its allies are directly arming, aiding, and abetting Al Qaeda in Syria.

The article admits:

Syrian rebels and activists are warning that an al-Qaida-linked jihadi group is on the verge of snuffing out what remains of the country’s uprising in northwestern Syria, after the extremists seized control of the opposition-held regional capital, Idlib, last weekend.

However, the so-called “uprising” has been allegedly supported since 2011 by the US, Europe, and the West’s collective allies across the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars a year in weapons, training, logistics, and even vehicles, and now even direct military support.

LGBT Brigades In Syria? Western Anarcho-Leftists Cutting Their Teeth With Western-Backed Kurdish YPG

By Brandon Turbeville

The Western corporate press is now having a field day promoting the latest Western incarnation of destabilization in Syria – the new “anti-ISIS” LGBT brigades. No, this isn’t a prank. According to a number of sources, LGBT brigades of fighters in Syria are now joining forces with Western-backed Kurdish fighters in order “fight back against ISIS” for the persecution of homosexuals under jihadist rule as well as attacks on communities outside of terrorist jurisdiction.

Still, while the Western media is hyping the new brigades as an example of empowerment and anti-terrorist heroism, there is much more to the story than meets the eye. In addition, it involves a number of different factions and Western intelligence activity both at home and abroad.

Who Are The LGBT Brigades?...

Watch: Tucker Carlson And Tulsi Gabbard Breakdown Trump’s Decision To Stop Arming Al Qaeda In Syria

The United States’ foreign policy in Syria will likely go down in history as the most hypocritical policy ever enforced by our government. After 9/11 the US government eviscerated our privacy rights, militarized our law enforcement agencies, groped us at the airport, and waged multiple wars that cost thousands of American lives and trillions of dollars, all in the name of fighting terrorism. Then when the Syrian Civil War erupted, our government turned around and began arming self-proclaimed Al-Qaeda terrorists in the region, and called them “freedom fighters.”

Fortunately this utterly stupid covert program was ended by Donald Trump last week. The media responded by saying that Trump had leaked state secrets by admitting the program exists (though pretty much anyone who bothered to research the subject has known it was real for years), and that he was appeasing Russia by ending the program.

Fear and Trepidation in Tel Aviv: Is Israel Losing the Syria War?

The six-year-old Syria war is moving to a new stage, perhaps its final. The Syrian regime is consolidating its control over most of the populated centers, while ISIS is losing ground fast – and everywhere.

Concurrently, first steps at a permanent ceasefire are bearing fruit, compared to many failed attempts in the past.

Following a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Russia on July 7 at the G-20 meeting in Hamburg, Germany, three provinces in southwestern Syria – bordering Jordan and Israeli-occupied Golan Heights – are now relatively quiet. The agreement is likely to be extended elsewhere.

The Israeli government has made it clear to the US that it is displeased with the agreement, and Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has been leading strong efforts to undermine the ceasefire.

Netanyahu’s worst fears are, perhaps, actualizing: a solution in Syria that would allow for a permanent Iranian and Hezbollah presence in the country.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The question is Netanyahu feels about the current situation on the ground in Syria; the question is, what will he attempt to do next, to attempt to destroy the cease fire?!?

Terrorists Control Less than 10sq/km of Area in Arsal, Hezbollah on Verge of Great Victory

Only 7sq/km of land has remained under the control of the Al-Nusra Front (Tahrir al-Sham Hay'at or the Levant Liberation Board) in the mountainous region at Lebanon-Syria Border, a military source said, adding that the Lebanese Hezbollah fighters are now on the verge of capturing the entire of Arsal heights.

The source confirmed that only three heights stretching over 7sq/km of area are under Al-Nusra Front's control in Arsal heights, adding the resistance forces will soon reach the regions of Wadi Hamid and al-Malahi after capturing the terrorist-held three heights.

Once, Hezbollah seizes control over the three heights, it will complete liberation of Arsal heights, the source said.

Syrian government forces, backed up by the Russian Aerospace Forces, have liberated the village of Baghliyah and nearby hills from ISIS terrorist sin the eastern Homs countryside. Thus, the army and its allies outflanked Dabat Milli, Taliah Sharqiyah and deployed in a striking distance from Rasm Hamidah where clashes are now ongoing.
The general idea of this advance is to put additional pressure on ISIS terrorists north of the Homs-Palmyra highway and to contribute to a wider effort aimed at isolating and destroying a large ISIS grouping deployed at the town of Uqayribat. Pro-government units have been struggling to do this since June. However, ISIS has a strong defense and is not going to withdraw without the battle.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) Tiger Forces and pro-government Tribal Forces have liberated of Shinan and Abar al-Jeraih near the Euphrates River in southern Raqqah.

Jul 25 09:12

Syrian government forces have liberated at least 55 towns from ISIS and killed some 2,000 terrorists in the province of Aleppo since June 1st and now the Syrian military and its allies continue advancing against ISIS along the Euphrates River, Chief of the Russian General Staff’s Main Operational Directorate Col. Gen. Sergei Rudskoy announced on Monday.

Rudskoy added that the Syrian army and its allies have freed 150km of the border with Iraq including the city of El-Bud and the T-2 gas distribution system from ISIS and now they are developing the offensive in the direction of the city of al-Bukamal. Government forces are allegedly deployed within 26km of this strategic ISIS-held city.

Tulsi Gabbard: US Addicted to Regime Change; CIA Funded and Armed Al Qaeda in Syria

In a brazen attempt at honesty, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D) of Hawaii went on Tucker Carlson tonight and declared the US was addicted to regime change and that we armed and funded Al Qaeda in Syria.

In late 2016, Gabbard introduced the 'Stop Funding Terrorist Act' to Congress -- but hardly anyone on the left or on the neocon right listened. Over the course of the past two years, we've seen Russia on the right side of history, aiding the only legitimate government in Syria -- which has provided the media with endless demonization campaigns depicting both Assad and Putin as monsters, who both gassed innocents and bombed out hospitals, whilst ignoring the horrors and the blind hatred of the people attempting to overthrow Assad.

Donald Trump blasts newspaper's reporting on US-Syria policy

President Donald Trump has assailed The Washington Post in connection with a story about termination of U.S. efforts to aid rebels fighting to oust Syria's President Bashir Assad.

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) Tiger Forces and tribal forces, backed up by the Russian Aerospace Forces, have liberated Al-Dakhilah, Bir Al-Sabkhawi, and Al-Sabkhawi from ISIS terrorists in the southern countryside of Raqqah and, according to pro-government sources, reached the Euphrates River and cut off the Al-Bukamal-Aleppo highway.

Thus, the army and its allies repeated the al-Bab-style operation when they built a buffer zone in order to stop a possible Turkish advance into central Syria. Control over the Al-Bukamal-Aleppo highway prevents a possible US-led operation in the direction of Deir Ezzor from the area of Raqqah.

Have the US, Trump Really Abandoned ‘Regime Change ‘ in Syria?

For the past few days, news outlets have been reporting on the Trump Administration and CIA’s announcement to end the controversial covert program to arm and train ‘moderate rebels’ fighting to overthrow the Syrian government of Bashar al Assad. While many who want peace in Syria see this move as a step in the right direction, others still doubt that the underlying goal of ousting Assad has been abandoned completely. The decision may serve a number of purposes, but the long-term goals of the US and its close coalition allies do not change easily, and removing President Assad from power has a centerpiece their regional restructuring plan for a very long time.

Does the announcement really mean that Trump is going to leave Assad alone? Is the US turning a corner in Syria and finally learning from the mistakes it made in Iraq and Libya? Is it really a concession to Russia? Is Trump finally actualizing his campaign rhetoric that seemed to reject America’s foreign wars?

Not likely.

US Coalition Sees a ‘Lot More’ to Do in Syria After Raqqa: Will Continue to Back Kurdish Forces in Taking ISIS Territory

The US-led coalition in Syria believes they have a “lot more” to do in their war against ISIS in the country, even if they manage to expel ISIS from their capital city of Raqqa, with the deputy commander saying they’ll go after the rest of ISIS territory, backing the Kurds.

ISIS still holds a substantial amount of territory outside of Raqqa, including the majority of the Deir Ezzor Province. US officials have previously even singled out Mayadin as the “next capital” for ISIS, which they’ll invade next.

In Iraq, the US has styled their military presence as basically a permanent reality now, irrespective of ISIS’ status, but in Syria, where the US-led coalition isn’t authorized to be in the first place, justifying their long-term presence is going to be trickier.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Let's see here: another US invasion of a sovereign Middle Eastern country, completely unauthorized by Congress, where Russia has been invited at the behest of the Syrian government, to deal with the jihadists, but the US military has not; what could possibly go wrong?!?

Al-Qaeda Takes Control of Syrian City of Idlib From Rival Jihadist Group

Underscoring that Friday’s ceasefire was a de facto military victory for them, al-Qaeda’s Nusra Front now totally controls the Idlib Province’s capital city of Idlib, following the other ceasefire party, Ahrar al-Sham withdrawing over the weekend.

The two sides had spent over a week fighting around the province, ending with Nusra having a large contingent of Ahrar al-Sham surrounded at the border crossing into Turkey. This was followed by a ceasefire that aimed to remove all combatants from the crossing itself.

Still, it was no real secret that the deal came simply to prevent a bloodbath, and Ahrar al-Sham fairly quickly had packed everyone up on their vehicles and headed further south, into territory in Idlib Province that they still control.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks like the Syrian Army and Russia have their work cut out for them in Idlib.

Top general says Russians could force US out of Syria, as Congress strikes deal to slap them with new sanctions

Russia, unlike the US, operates in Syria at the invitation of the Syrian government, said General Raymond 'Tony' Thomas, the head of the Special Operations Command, at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado on Friday.

'Here's the conundrum: We are operating in the sovereign country of Syria. The Russians, their stalwarts, their backstoppers have already uninvited the Turks from Syria. We're a bad day away from the Russians saying, "Why are you still in Syria, US?" Thomas said, according to Newsweek.
