"Helpless, Raging" Charlottesville Families Shocked By These 2018 Obamacare Premiums..."It's Horrific"

Over the past several months, Democrats have jumped on every opportunity possible to blame the Trump administration for yet another year of staggering Obamacare premium increases. Ironically, despite arguments from the Left that Trump's defunding of Obamacare's marketing budget would cause 2018 signups to plunge, as Politico recently noted, they're actually up in 2018...which begs the question: was the Obama administration just wasting $100 million a year in taxpayer money for nothing? Shocking thought, we know.

A Boeing 757 was hacked and now DHS is worried more planes could be at risk

A Department of Homeland Security official admitted that the agency was able to remotely hack into a Boeing 757 during a test in 2016.
The DHS official indicated that he and his team were able to do so without having any direct contact with the aircraft or using any materials that would be flagged by security.
While the exact details of the hack are confidential, Boeing insists that the hackers were not able to take control of the aircraft's flight systems.

Nothing Patriotic or Conservative About Our Bloated Defense Budget

Rep. John J. Duncan, Jr. Posted on November 16, 2017
***
I opposed almost all the major initiatives of the Obama administration. But it was false to say that the Defense Department was "depleted" or "eviscerated" during those years, or that now we must "rebuild the military."

In fact, public relations experts in future years should conduct studies about how the Defense Department has been able to convince the public it has been cut when it is getting more money than ever.

Defense Department appropriations have more than doubled since 2000. In addition, the Department has gotten extra billions in several supplemental or emergency appropriation bills.
***
Since now less than one percent of the people serve in the military, it may be that many people who never served feel, perhaps even subconsciously, that they must bend over backwards to show their patriotism.

However, it is not unpatriotic to oppose wasteful defense spending or very unnecessary permanent, forever wars.

Why Are We Shouldering Our Rich Allies' Defense?

U.S. friends in Europe and Asia can be their own first responders.

The Pentagon’s fiscal year (FY) 2018 budget request is $639.1 billion—$574.5 billion in base funding plus another $64.6 billion for overseas contingency operations, i.e., the ongoing wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, and elsewhere. That represents a $52.4 billion (9 percent) increase over FY 2017. Yet some lawmakers—such as Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX)—think we should spend even more. The problem is that their position depends on accepting our current strategy, which is a relic of the Cold War, not a forward-looking strategic vision for 21st century challenges.

It’s time for a robust debate about whether we need to spend hundreds of billions more U.S. taxpayer dollars to dominate an increasingly complex globe—or whether we should instead pursue a more realistic (and affordable) foreign policy that prioritizes U.S. security and increases burden sharing with our wealthy allies to protect our shared interests.

To provide some perspective, in constant FY 2018 dollars, current defense spending exceeds peak spending during the Reagan era, which was $609.6 billion—and has not been re-booted to the realities of the post-Cold War world.

The real reason the U.S. is spending more than $600 billion on defense is not to defend the American homeland against direct attack—which should be the primary mission of the U.S. military—but to defend other countries around the world, as we did during the Cold War.

Devontre Thomas is likely facing federal charges because the alleged possession took place at the Chemawa Indian School, which is run by the federal Bureau of Indian Education.

Devontre Thomas, 19, recently graduated from Chemawa Indian School in Salem and is heading to college this fall. But first, he’ll have to take a trip to the federal courthouse in Portland to fight the charge, stemming from an incident in March 2015.

Israel Uses US Tax Dollars to Abuse Palestinian Children. This Bill Would Put an End to That.

***
Rep. Betty McCollum, D-Minn., and nine co-sponsors on Tuesday introduced legislation that would require the U.S. State Department to certify every year that American military aid is not being used to fund the systematic abuse of Palestinian children.

If passed, the bill — titled the Promoting Human Rights by Ending Israeli Military Detention of Palestinian Children Act — would explicitly prohibit U.S. aid from being used by Israel to support the administrative detention or physical abuse of Palestinian children. The bill says that detention of Palestinian children is “inconsistent with the values of the United States.”

Bill Harper, McCollum’s chief of staff, told The Intercept that the legislation is an attempt to establish some sort of transparency over how Israel uses U.S. military aid, particularly as it relates to human rights abuses.

The Whiskey Rebellion: How Brand New America Tore Up The Bill of Rights

223 years ago today, “The Dreadful Night” occurred in Western Pennsylvania, after an uprising called The Whiskey Rebellion.

The United States was brand new. Soldiers who had fought for independence from Great Britain found themselves on opposite sides of a skirmish. Some were having their rights violated practically before the ink was dry on the Bill of Rights. Other Veterans of the Revolution were doing the oppressing at Alexander Hamilton’s behest.

The Whiskey Rebellion saw farmers stand up to an unfair tax handed down by the federal government, and the government responded with the force of a monarchy. It may have all sprung from Alexander Hamilton’s desire for glory. Or Hamilton, the first Secretary of Treasury, may have had other motives for setting the precedent of force which still lives on today.

You Won’t Believe Who John Mccain Is Working With To Betray Trump

After John McCain single handedly killed two attempts to repeal and replace Obamacare, Republican leaders quickly realized they needed to pass tax reform to inspire the GOP base ahead of the 2018 midterms.

In the wake of the Democrat sweep in Virginia – where conservative voters stayed home because Congressional Republicans spent more time investigating Trump than helping him pass his agenda – leadership ramped up the urgency behind passing tax cuts.

Senate Republicans can only afford to lose two votes or else any effort to evade a Democrat filibuster will fail.

So it was only natural that McCain schemed to kill the bill by pronouncing it “dead on arrival.”

The House GOP’s Tax Plan Embraces Class Warfare

***
Instead of following through with the promise of taking seven brackets and simplifying them to three, Speaker Ryan and Chairman Brady added in a fourth bracket exclusively for millionaires,” complains David McIntosh, president of the pro-market Club for Growth (a group I’ve addressed numerous times). This complex foolishness imposes an effective marginal tax rate of 45.6 percent on single filers who earn $1 million to $1.2 million and couples who make between $1.2 and $1.6 million. “That’s a real tax increase on successful people who invest and create jobs,” McIntosh lamented. Shamefully, this would be 15.15 percent, or six percentage points, above today’s 39.6 percent top rate.

Wall Street tax break once blasted by Trump preserved in Republican bill

As a candidate, U.S. President Donald Trump promised to close the "carried interest" tax break that benefits some of Wall Street's wealthiest financiers - but the Republican tax bill released on Thursday makes no mention of it.

Carried interest is a share of an investment fund's profits - typically about 20 percent beyond the return guaranteed to investors - that is paid out to the general partners of private equity, venture capital, real estate and hedge funds.

Under current law, carried interest income is taxed at the capital gains rate of 20 percent. That is well below the 39.6 percent rate that high earners pay on ordinary wages and salary.

While we won't know the answer to that question for at least a couple of months, one thing is certain...if it happens it will most definitely be the result of the Trump administration's efforts to undermine the legislation and not the culmination of years of soaring costs that has rendered healthcare unaffordable for most American families. Breaking: IRS Admits To Specifically Targeting Tea Party Conservatives – Obama Was Going After His Political Enemies

The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) has won a years-long legal battle against the Internal Revenue Service in which the agency admitted that it wrongfully targeted Tea Party conservatives, during the Obama Administration, specifically because of their political viewpoints.

In issuing an “apology” to the clients represented by the ACLJ, the IRS admitted that it was wrong to use the United States tax code simply because of an entity’s name. They also admitted the bombshell fact that this discrimination happened specifically because of the applicants political viewpoints. Keep in mind the fact that the mainstream media has spent years telling the American people that this didn’t happen.

President Trump Names IRS Commissioner to Replace John Koskinen

It’s no secret that the IRS targeted conservatives during the Obama Administration – and they got away with it too, for the most part.

Former IRS unit director Lois Lerner was initially the central figure in the scandal, infamously pleading the fifth when summoned to testify. Obama’s Justice Department and FBI would conveniently later find “substantial evidence of mismanagement, poor judgment and institutional inertia” but “find no evidence that any IRS official acted based on political, discriminatory, corrupt, or other inappropriate motives that would support a criminal prosecution.”

It was just a coincidence that Lerner granted only ONE conservative group non-profit status in three years? Sure.

The IRS also fired people in connection with the scandal for unethical and even criminal actions, but didn’t have much trouble quickly rehiring 213 of them.

As part of the plan to begin phasing out gas and diesel car sales over the next three decades, drivers of diesel vehicles and older petrol cars in the UK will now face a tax called T-Charge for driving into the financial district and parts of west London, Reuters reported.

Drivers are already charged 11.50 pounds ($15) under a congestion charge. But those driving petrol and diesel vehicles typically before 2006 will now need to pay an additional 10 pounds ($13.19). Koontz is a member of the Mennonite Church USA. In July, it voted to divest from US companies, profiting from Israel’s illegal occupation.

She supports Palestinian rights. Her employment papers require a declaration in writing of no support for BDS. She declined and was denied the right to train

Trump’s Tax Plan Is An Act Of Political Domination By The Rich

Why do so many people work 60-hour weeks for poverty wages while a few luxuriate in the fabulous returns of interest-bearing assets? Why are the citizens of Puerto Rico threatened by a deadly social collapse while the fruit of the island’s labor is shipped to Wall Street bondholders? The answer surely cannot be that some wealthy members of our society are exercising political power over the lives and incomes of others. We must consider growth, productivity, liquidity, gross domestic product and the debt-to-GDP ratio.

Don’t Fall for Tax Reform

It’s a con, and a shell game. It’s a promise every presidential candidate makes, including Trump. But we ought to be suspicious of grandiose talk about Congress reforming anything. Tax reform proposals always evade and obscure the real issue, which is the total cost– financial, compliance, and human– taxes impose on society. The fundamental questions about war and entitlements and state power go unasked. We never consider whether Congress really needs to spend more than $4 trillion in 2018, or how it managed to double federal spending in only 15 years.

Sep 29 12:40

Lost in the tax reform debate

The biggest concern for politicians is whether the overhaul will result in a net loss of revenue for the government. This implies two things: 1) that the money belongs to the government; and 2) that the government could not function with less money. Neither of these is true. Years of study and observation tell me that not one person in a million understands the income tax. The income tax is probably the greatest deception and fraud in history, because it is the foundation of a private monetary system. The very few who do understand vomit every time they hear the word “democracy.”

Gary Cohn: "I Can't Guarantee" Taxes Won't Go Up For The Middle Class

While proclaiming that "the biggest winners will be everyday American workers," President Trump's top economic adviser, Gary Cohn told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos that he can't guarantee that taxes won't go up for some middle-class families under the administration's sweeping tax overhaul.

"The biggest winners will be the everyday American workers as jobs start pouring into our country, as companies start competing for American labor and as wages start going up at levels that you haven't seen in many years," Trump said.

Following Matt Drudge's cries of "betrayal" yesterday, it appears confusion truly reigns as to just who benefits from the so-called 'greatest tax cuts in the history of the world' as we know absolutely nothing because the government has yet to release the income brackets (or get close to guessing at just how 'progressive' and 'punitive' the optional 4th bracket will be).

The NFL: Big Business With Big Tax Breaks

If You Build It ...

Besides the tax exemption, the NFL can also get a break through big stadium deals. Take, for example, the Dallas Cowboys.

In the late 1990s, the Dallas Cowboys and the team's owner, Jerry Jones, began plans to expand their stadium or build a new one. Jones shopped in and around Dallas for years, asking for public assistance to fund the stadium.

He found an audience in Arlington, a city just outside of Dallas. The price tag for the public was $325 million. (Jones was responsible for the balance of the money for the $1.2 billion stadium. Dallas News says Jones' contribution "was paid with commercial loans, league funding and proceeds from a ticket and parking tax.")
