Hawaiian town rocked by up to 800 earthquakes daily as volcano erupts

It’s been a strange three months for the Hawaii island village of Volcano, where thousands of earthquakes have rattled the residents of this small mountainside town since Kilauea began erupting in May. Now, after a week of waning quakes, residents are holding their breath, waiting to see if this, finally, could signal the end of the eruption that has crippled the easternmost part of the island.

Volcano, a tiny tourist town nestled in a high elevation forest, is a scant five miles from the caldera of Kilauea volcano. Its location makes it especially vulnerable to earthquakes, which during July sometimes numbered as high as 800 a day, according to Kyle Anderson, a seismologist with US Geological Survey.

Cooperate Or Die: In Private Meeting, Top Facebook Exec Threatened News Outlets

During a closed-door and off-the-record meeting last week, top Facebook executive Campbell Brown reportedly warned news publishers that refusal to cooperate with the tech behemoth's efforts to "revitalize journalism" will leave media outlets dying "like in a hospice."

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is why the independent media is really important right now, and so worthy of support, both informationally and financially.

Because Brown's call to "revitalize journalism", is nothing more than a not so subtle, in your face threat, that the presstitutes and whorespondents can be broken, forever, by not adhering completely to the narrative of the nation-state, and any countering argument to that narrative must be ground down into the dirt, permanently and immediately.

So no, Mr. Brown: WRH refuses to do this, and we have suffered intensely from the financial, social, and intellectual stigmas associated with not carrying the Unhinged, Surveilled State of Amerika's water for it.

Yes, the siren song of the money, and opportunities available after becoming "the US Deep State's bitch" can still be heard, sotto voce; but just like listening to the song of a mermaid, trying to lure a sailor to their death, when you understand how completely expendable ordinary working people are to the inner workings of the monied who rule this country, the ethical costs of such a switch in perspective, are simply too great to bear.

Russian Warship Said To Locate And Track US 'Stealth' Nuclear Sub For Hours

A major Russian daily newspaper on Friday revealed a classified incident wherein a Russian battleship located and tracked a 'stealth' US nuclear powered submarine.

It reportedly took place last April, near in time to when the US, UK, and France launched massive strikes from air and sea on targets in and around Damascus in response to the alleged government chemical attack on Douma.

The popular Russian-language daily Izvestia newspaper revealed the story, citing a source in the Russian Navy. While not itself state-owned, the historic newspaper was in the past owned by Gazprom prior to being sold, and has long had close ties to the government.

Currently it's impossible to independently verify the claims, but if true, it would be of monumental importance as it follows recent statements by Pentagon officials sounding the alarm over the rapid pace of Russian and Chinese advances in defense technology, including things like hypersonic weapons.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Little known fact about subs. Nuclear boats are NOISY compared to diesel-electrics.

Lithuania Builds NATO Polygon 60 Km From Russian Border

In the Lithuanian city of Kazlu Ruda, the construction of the first NATO-standardized air force training polygon in the Baltic region is nearing completion, the press service of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense has announced.

The polygon will be located about 60 kilometers from the border with Russia and has the explicit mission of “contributing to the NATO policy of deterring Russia.” In it, military aircraft will be able to practice attacks against land targets. In addition, the structure will be used for the training of military pilots.

The construction of the polygon began in 2017 and its end is scheduled for the last quarter of this year. The project is being developed with the help of the US Air Force engineering unit, RED HORSE. Construction funding comes from the European Security Guarantees Initiative (ERI).

Lesson from Iran

American companies that have invested so much in the fracking technology are interested in raising the price of crude oil. It can only be done if the largest producers agree on the quantities that they put on the world market. Iran since the time when the pro-American shah was deposed has not been on friendly terms with the United States and so it will not go hand in hand with American plans. That is the reason why it must be put out of the equation, and that is also why Washington is looking for pretexts to go to war with Tehran.

US Sanctions Are Pushing Russia To War

The new round of sanctions this week unleashed by the United States on Russia has only one meaning: the US rulers want to crush Russia’s economy. By any definition, Washington is, in effect, declaring war on Russia.

The implemented economic measures may have a seemingly abstract or sterile quality about them: banning electronic exports to Russia, rattling financial markets, stock prices falling. But the material consequence is that American officials are intending to inflict physical damage on Russian society and Russian people.

It’s economic warfare on a sliding scale to military warfare, as the Prussian General Karl von Clausewitz would no doubt appreciate.

It seems all the more significant that this week also saw US internet services launching a major clampdown on anti-war websites, suggesting that the powers-that-be want to shut down any criticism or public awareness of their reckless warmongering.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev is absolutely correct in his assessment.

Unfortunately, the the timing of this unloosing of the "dogs of war" against Russia, via these sanctions, and these attempts at silencing the independent media right now, which generally are pro-peace, were no accidents.

I cannot know when a physical false flag will be turned loose against Russia; I might suggest, potentially, that it may happen at the "drop-dead moment" President Trump has declared, as the absolute moratorium against all governments on the planet to stop buying oil from Iran; that "drop dead date", is Sunday, 4 November, the Sunday before the mid-term elections which happen in the US on Tuesday, 6 November.

This will be largely unenforceable, in light of the fact that Russia, China, and Turkey, have all spurned this veto against trade, and will continue to trade with Iran.

I would suggest that there may be something significant, happening either on Monday 5 November, on on the mid-term election date proper, against both Iran and Russia, although I see a potential attack against Iran coming sooner, as President Trump's pollsters may well see that there is a very real concern among the American people, that such an attack has absolutely no US legal "cover", (which it does not), so may feel they want to go in early, perhaps during, or right after the Labor Day holiday coming up, with yet another ginned up, concoction of lies, so that the American people will generally have just come back from a holiday, before they realize that their country has gone to war against Iran.

OF course, for the country of Israel, such a war against Iran cannot possibly happen soon enough.

For his next vacation this summer at any of the hotels he owns, I would politely suggest that President Trump should be reading Sun Tzu's "The Art of War." I have archived a version for him here, from the MIT classics Library.
Sun Tzu: The Art of War.

H needs to see where the US government and military stack up to any of the thoughts this military genius had about why wars are successfully won, or horrifically lost, then move accordingly.

I would like to politely remind President Trump, Congress, the Pentagon, Congress and the State Department, that right now in its history, the US military does not have the troop strength; the money; the manufacturing, or the weaponry to insure a successful outcome in a war against both Russia and /or China.

And when any wars the United States undertake, go nuclear, as may well go any wars against China or Russia by the United States, I would suggest extreme caution by President Trump in what he wishes for as the outcome, from such a conflagration; the results may well be both horrific..... and irreversible.

Sweden Is Burning: Migrant Gangs Unleash Coordinated Fire-Bomb Rampage Across Multiple Cities

Many Swedes were horrified in early 2017 when U.S. President Donald Trump linked immigration to rising crime in Sweden, but an increasing number now agree with him.

Amid soaring crime rates, gang violence, complaints about education, and pregnant mothers even being turned away from maternity wards due to a lack of capacity, resentment in Sweden has built over the influx of more than 600,000 immigrants over the past five years.

And tonight is one of the worst night for violence in recent history as police report multiple gangs of masked youths rampaging across three major Swedish cities, setting cars on fire in what seems like a coordinated action.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Prayers for the Swedish people, dealing with this violence; but also, prayers - and votes - that Swedish legislators get the message, and never, ever again allow unvetted immigration, which is turning Sweden into a massive funeral pyre for the Swedish people.

Lenin Updated: ‘Turn the Globalist War into a Race War’

First US President Donald Trump meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki and appears to make some progress towards his stated goal of putting ties between Washington and Moscow on a positive course. Immediately, all hell breaks loose. Trump is a called a traitor. The “sanctions bill from hell” is introduced in the Senate. Trump is forced on the defensive.

Next Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky visits Moscow, where he meets with Putin and gives him a letter from Trump proposing moderate steps towards rapprochement. Paul also talks with Russian Senators and invites them to come to Washington to continue the dialogue. Immediately, all hell breaks loose. Paul is called a traitor. The State Department “finds” the Russians guilty of the using illegal chemical weapons (CW) in the United Kingdom and imposes sanctions. Trump is forced even more on the defensive.

THE RUSSIAN-GEORGIAN WAR OF AUGUST 2008 WAS ACTUALLY THE RUSSIAN-‘ISRAELI’ WAR

Now ten years on, the Russo-Georgian War that began on this day in 2008 is one of the most lopsided but nevertheless important geopolitical events of the last 20 years. And all fingers point to the usurping Zionist entity as being the prime mover and shaker behind the bloodshed–despite such an awful few analysts and commentators digging deep enough to find the evidence.

Before tackling the battle itself however, a note needs to be made about just how the ground became fertile for conflict and it can be done in three words: The Rose Revolution. A destabilization operation bankrolled and pushed through by George Soros through his Open Society Foundation, Peter Ackerman through CANVAS, Peter Lewis, a frequent coreligionist partner of the first two regime-change-obsessed Zionists, USAID, the NDI, the NED and bloodthirsty Iraq Genocide architect Paul Wolfowitz.

US, TURKEY DECLARE ECONOMIC WAR

Relations between the US and Turkey — a key American ally and home to NATO’s second-largest army — hit a new low on Friday, with the presidents of both countries rhetorically declaring economic war on each other. And over the course of a single day, the Turkish lira lost 17 percent of its value.

Within hours, early signs of panic spread to world financial markets. A European currency trader, who asked that his name not be published, told WhoWhatWhy on Sunday that he had never seen so much trade and volatility over a weekend, blaming it on the Turkey events.

Webmaster's Commentary:

American foreign and economic policies should be used as a feather; rarely as a club.

Unfortunately, President Trump, DC's Merchant of Death in Chief (chief supporter of US arms sales to Saudi Arabia, for its genocide in Yemen) believes in the power of a "bully pulpit" from which he can force "Pax Americana" on an increasingly unwilling and hostile world, without really paying attention to the condition in which the Unhinged, Surveilled State of Amerika, finds itself, in this part of the 21st century.

We are a nation in decline; nearly destroyed by a National debt which can never be repaid; with US infrastructure crumbling, and a pronouncedly "third world" feel to our inner cities, primarily due to massive illegal immigration.

The US continues to do what has always done well, in the immortal words of George Carlin (paraphrased); we continue to kill brown people, because we're good at it!

And this is all in the name of expropriating resources, to which the US government has no moral right; regime change to insure that governments are US centric, and that those resources stolen from their countries of origin, will only be sold in US dollars.

And I have to wonder, with this feud between Erdogan and President Trump; did anyone happen to mention to him, that such activities were nearly bound to push Turkey into the economic/military sways of both China and Russia?!?

Was this the outcome actually wanted?!?

And if not, why the hell didn't someone around him suggest this possibility, which is about to morph into some huge embarrassments for the US in the Middle East and beyond?!?

UAE: UP TO 25 YEARS IN JAIL FOR CYBER CRIMINALS

The UAE has made an amendment to a 2012 Cyber Crime law, increasing financial penalties and extending jail terms to up to 25 years for terrorism related activity, WAM Agency reported today.

Those engaging in cybercrimes in the UAE can be sent to jail for a period not exceeding 25 years in addition to a fine up to some $1 million.

The terrorism related activity includes: “whoever establishes, manages or runs a website or publishes information on the computer network or information technology means for the interest of a terrorist group or any unauthorised group, association, organisation”, the WAM Agency statement read.

‘HATE CRIMES’

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why does it not surprise me, that this same country, terrified of what its own people may think about its government, is torturing in Yemen?!?

That has to be part of the three-legged stool, is it not, of surveillance, threatening those who do not believe the government, posting alternative viewpoints, and then using torture to reinforce the consequences of the first two acts.

This is all as logical as it is deplorable.

SECRET REPORT REVEALS TORTURE USED IN SAUDI-LED COALITION PRISONS IN YEMEN

Al Jazeera received a secret report prepared by former military officials who worked with the Saudi-UAE alliance in Yemen on the conditions of prisons and secret detention centres and forced disappearances.

The information in the report matched the testimonies of prisoners and abductees given to human rights activists. Such details also reinforced what had been revealed by the Associated Press in previous investigations.

The report revealed some of the atrocities taking place in these secret UAE-controlled prisons situated in southern Yemen. The violations range from murdering detainees and abductees to torture and deprivation. Moreover, the report listed sites and names of secret graves, detainees tortured to death and missing persons, as well as identities of the torturers and the details of interrogations

Webmaster's Commentary:

Remember when Gina Haspel, now head of the CIA, assured Congressional Representatives, that torture would never happen again on her watch, no matter where in the world?!?

Who is arming, funding, and advising the Saudis on their genocide in Yemen?!?

Were I the same Congressional Representatives who interviewed her, and heard those promises in English she made about never having this happen again, and understanding what was now going on in Yemen, Courtesy of the UAE, and I would put her back side right back into the investigative chair, and ask her why she is allowing the UAE to do this.

Or, perhaps, given the proclivities of some members of the US Deep State to "get off" on this kind of torture, psychologically, one might say that, perhaps, she has already been given a "get out of jail, fee" card, with her defense as being given that "she is not in control" of UAE torture in Yemen.

While this may be technically true, that Haspel, apparently, is making absolutely zero moves to stop this, while the best intellects in intelligence work, claim, irrefutably, that torture does not work, and only gets the tortured person to say what the torturers to say to get the torture to stop, means that she is, personally, ethically and morally, cheering the torturers on.

The leadership of this country had a choice with her nomination; they could have chosen a Hanns Scharrf-like character, a German-born American and British world War II hero, who never used torture to get intelligence from his prisoners, but was unfailingly kind, and used to get them day passes for cultural events, or someone with the human rights sensitivities just to the right of those of Attila the Hun.

You have seen the direction this Government has chosen to go, with Haspel's confirmation, and that makes me very much fear for the future of my country.

Russian Warship Said To Locate And Track US 'Stealth' Nuclear Sub For Hours

Russian state-owned RT News translated sections of the exclusive Izvestia story, and describes the claimed April incident as follows:

The frigate Admiral Essen of the Russian Black Sea Fleet managed to track down one of the Ohio-class submarines currently in service with the US Navy, Izvestia newspaper revealed on Friday, citing a source in the Russian Navy. The Russian ship left Sevastopol, a major Black Sea port located on the Crimean Peninsula, on March 13 and returned on June 30. The frigate was deployed most of the time in the Mediterranean Sea.

RT touts the claimed success of the operation, echoing military sources, as follows:

The pursuit lasted more than two hours, during which the Russian ship recorded the basic parameters of the American submarine, which will be deciphered and added to the acoustic characteristics of the submarine...

May, Hunt silent as UK's best arms customer kills dozens of children in Yemen bus attack

After a Saudi-led attack in Yemen killed and injured dozens of children, the public is again questioning London's arms sales to Riyadh. Officials have kept silent, helped by the MSM which fails to question the UK's involvement.
According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, the body count from Thursday's attack sits at 51, including 40 children. Seventy-nine others were also injured in the attack, 56 of whom were children. It is understood that the bus was bringing children home from a picnic when it was attacked.

World Remains Blind To "Ticking Time Bomb" Counting Down To War On Australia's Doorstep

Asia is at risk of descending into a region-wide crisis with global implications, a leading expert in Asia-Pacific affairs has warned.

Dr Brendan Taylor, Associate Professor at ANU Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs, argues Asia is at a dangerous crossroads in his new book The Four Flashpoints: How Asia Goes to War.

A lot is happening in the northeast. China is set to overtake the United States as the world’s dominant power over the next decade. Questions remain over Kim Jong-un’s supposed dismantling of his nuclear arsenal. Japan is building up its military power again, and regional battles for ownership of lucrative oceans are intensifying.

Dr Taylor argues there are four key “flashpoints” — politically unstable areas with the potential to erupt into sudden conflict — and all are situated within the continent.

Saudi Coalition Promises Investigation Into Strike on Yemen Schoolbus

The Saudi-led coalition attacking Yemen has promised that they will carry out an investigation following Thursday’s attack in the Saada Province. In the strike, Saudi warplanes attacked a schoolbus outside of a crowded marketplace, killing at least 50, mostly children.

The coalition says they are “firmly committed to investigating all claims regarding mistakes or violations of international law.” This statement was made through the Saudi press despite officials insisting on Thursday that the killings were a “legitimate military action” and perfectly legal.

Gory photos of dead children that followed, however, fueled a lot of calls from the international community to investigate the matter. UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutterres condemned the strike and urged an “independent and prompt investigation.” The Houthis, who control northern Yemen, backed the call.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This just makes me sick to my stomach.

IF the Saudis are the only ones allegedly "investigating" this massacre, the conclusion will be that all the alleged "children" who were murdered, or maimed, for life, were actually, genetically, very small Houthi rebels, disguised as children, who they had the absolute right to murder on this school bus.

Just wait for it: I am betting that what I have just stated, won't be very far from the Saudi conclusions on this slaughter.

UN PUTS COST OF SYRIAN WAR DESTRUCTION AT NEARLY $400 BILLION

A group of United Nations experts have produced a figure which puts a price tag on seven years of war in Syria in terms of overall destruction to the country: nearly $400 billion.

The UN just concluded a two day meeting of over 50 Syrian and international experts in Lebanon who met under the aegis of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

According to the AFP, the group of economic analysts concluded that the "volume of destruction in physical capital and its sectoral distribution" is estimated at more than $388 billion (334 billion euros).

NEOCONS HYPE THREAT OF “IRANIAN HACKERS” TO JUSTIFY PREEMPTIVE “COUNTERATTACK”

Several reports in both American and Israeli media have recently been circulating the claim that Iran is increasingly likely to respond to draconian U.S.-imposed sanctions by conducting “cyberattacks” against the United States. According to this narrative, “Iranian hackers have laid the groundwork to carry out extensive cyberattacks on U.S. and European infrastructure and on private companies,” prompting the U.S. to consider launching a preemptive “counterattack” in response.

Quoting anonymous U.S. government officials, think tanks and “experts,” these articles assert that the sanctions the U.S. re-imposed on Iran this Tuesday are “likely to push that country to intensify state-sponsored cyber-threat activities,” activities that one expert called “the most consequential, costly and aggressive in the history of the internet, more so than Russia.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel has been trying to goad both the US and Saudi Arabia in a potentially brutal attack against Iran, in the name of "regime change" in this country, and they are thoroughly frustrated that all their collective propaganda in this area, cannot seem to get the American people, now war-weary, and very war skeptical, after 17 years of America's failures in places like Afghanistan; Somalia; Iraq; and Libya, on it s"Bomb, Bomb Iran" War Train.

And I find it ironic, in looking at the region, that those who so deeply advocate war against Iran, are those countries in desperate need of regime change themselves.

Let's start with Israel, with its current and its painfully corrupt Prime Minister Netanyahu, who must always keep Israel's citizens in a psychological attitude of fear, and dread, against both the Palestinians, and against all their neighbors, who, it is said, want to kill them all, and create a 2nd holocaust.

Never mind that Israel appears pathologically incapable of getting along with its neighbors, and is always advocating regime change; never mind that it is constantly trying to figure out how to assassinate more Palestinians, and get away with it without the world noticing.

Then, let's shift to Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia's thoroughly embarrassing 21st century autocratic ruler, and the current Butcher of Yemen, who the United States is assisting militarily in Saudi War Crimes in Yemen.

Let's take a look at what the "good Prince" has caused to happen in Yemen, shall we?!? Warning: graphic images.

Images: Yemeni infants and children being killed, courtesy of Saudi bombing Runs

Starvation and disease (possibly weaponised cholera) are running rampant in Yemen, courtesy of joint US/Saudi bombing of the Yemeni ports, so food cannot get in.

Images:
Yemeni children starving to death, courtesy of US/Saudi port blockades

And please do not forget that Prince Salman, one of President Trump's BFFs in the Middle East, has ordered the use of depleted uranium weapons in Yemen:
Video:
Saudis using depleted uranium weapons in Yemen

And the use of these DU weapons in Yemen, is having the same effect as they had in Iraq, both on Iraqis... and American military professionals, who discovered to their horror, that their children were born, just as maimed and deformed, as were their Iraqi counterparts.

Images: Yemeni children born with massive deformities due to their parents' exposure to DU

So to our very own Merchant of Death in Chief, President Trump, who has authorized the sale of billions of dollars of weapons to Saudi Arabia, and to His Highness, the Butcher of Yemen, AKA Prince bin Salman, , all I have for you both is the polite, reiteration of two profoundly insightful sayings.

The first by the late US President John F. Kennedy, who said: "When peaceful revolution is impossible, violent revolution is inevitable."

And the second, by philosopher George Santayana, observes: ""Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.".

Just some food for thought, gentlemen.

"War In Front Of Me" - New Chinese Military Video Shows Off Range Of Advanced Weaponry

A new video produced by China's military that features the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) showing off a wide range of the country's latest military technology has gone viral after its publication to social media on August 1st, the day China commemorated 'Army Day'.

The just over two-minute video, called "I am a Chinese soldier" is an over the top patriotic tribute emphasizing a combination of personal sacrifice, loyalty, and a sense of esprit de corps in belonging to an elite, modernized military.

The National Interest has provided a translation of the popular Chinese language footage, which is described as follows:

The video is brimful with the grandiosity that is now associated with the military under Xi Jinping: a lot of ammunition is fired, and the very latest in China’s military technology — combat aircraft, a carrier battle group, long-range ballistic missiles, submarines and armored vehicles — is on full, proud, active display.

"Step Back From The Brink" UN Warns As Major War Looms After Overnight Gaza Airstrikes

In the third serious flare-up of violence in the last month, a major escalation began between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza overnight, which involved approximately 180 projectiles fired towards Israeli territory, and more than 150 Israeli airstrikes on targets inside Gaza, according to statements by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

Reports citing Israeli sources say of about 180 projectiles launched from Gaza overnight, the Iron Dome defense system intercepted over 30, while most hit open fields. However, official statements also noted strikes on playgrounds, houses, cars, and factories.

The BBC reports up to seven Israeli civilians wounded by the rocket and mortar fire, with Palestinian health officials confirming the death of a pregnant Palestinian woman and a toddler. The AFP identified the victims as 23-year old Enas Khammash and her 18-month-old daughter Bayan, killed in the Jafarawi area of central Gaza.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel wants this war, and it wants it now; Palestine is to be completely obliterated, and the formerly recognized Palestinians lands completely claimed by the settlers.

The problem facing Israel, is that it cannot control this war, and how far, or how rapidly it will spread.

It has the all the earmarks, right now, of a becoming a larger ranging regional war, with Israel, the US, Saudi Arabia, NATO on one side, and Iran, Russia, China, and Lebanon on the other.

I hope I am dreadfully wrong on this, but I think Israel believes that the timing is right for it to go in and kill as many Palestinians as is humanly possible.

Saudi Coalition Attacks School Bus A Day After State Department Justifies Airstrikes On Yemeni Towns

Though we are no longer shocked at the callous and indiscriminate nature of Saudi coalition attacks on Yemeni towns, we are surprised that major US networks like CNN have actually decided to cover coalition war crimes for a change.

Early on Thursday a coalition air attack scored a direct hit on a school bus packed with children as it drove through a crowded market place.

CNN provides the following disturbing details:

The bus was struck as it was driving through a market in the rebel-held province of Saada, according to the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV.

At least 43 people were killed and 63 injured in the strike, according to the Houthi-held health ministry.

The International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) said that a hospital it supports in Saada had received 29 dead bodies of "mainly children" under 15 years of age, and 40 injured, including 30 children.

Webmaster's Commentary:

No, these are precisely the images Americans need to see to understand how the US military is enabling Saudi war crimes in Yemen, and I have a couple of oldies but goodies I want our readers to see (very graphic and disturbing):

Images: Yemeni children being assassinated by Saudi bombings

Images; Yemeni children starving courtesy of US/Saudi blockades of Yemen ports.

This is precisely why the independent media is needed, now more than ever, to peacefully, and honestly witness to this kind of Saudi/US activity here, and bringing attention to those issues which those who want to algorithm the independent news out of existence, don't want us you to see.

Don't these images make you proud to be an American, to understand what the Saudi and US are doing there?!? Don't these war crimes in Yemen make you just burst with pride?!?

Because if they don't, we need to start having a peaceful conversation, both among each other, and with the Federal Government, as to why the US is colluding with the Butcher of Yemen (AKA the Saudi Prince Bin Salman) in creating war crimes in this country.

This is a genocide, pure and simple, and the US is deeply complicit in creating this genocide, and it must be made to stop.

And here... is a companion story, from sputnik.com:

USA Urges Saudis Probe on Bus Strike

And wasn't this right just after the following headline: "Saudi Coalition Attacks School Bus A Day After State Department Justifies Airstrikes On Yemeni Towns"?!?

I guess the Saudis, after evaluating that statement from our State Department, figured innocent little Yemeni kids, just trying to get to school for something passing for an education, were simply "fair game", so they bombed the crap out of the bus.

The assassination of Yemeni children is thoroughly normal for the Saudi military: and they do it absolutely brilliantly, as the above images prove.

And one has to wonder: did the US military provide "guidance" for the strike here?!?

US Navy’s Attack Subs Have Welding Issues in Their Missile Tubes

The US Navy’s newest submarines under construction have a problem with the welds on their missile tubes, a potentially costly issue to repair that could delay their completion.

Problems were found in a dozen vertical missile launch tubes to be used in the next version of the US Navy's Virginia-class attack submarines, the Block V, as well as the USN's upcoming Columbia-class and the British Royal Navy's Dreadnought-class, both ballistic missile submarines.

A dozen such tubes, manufactured by BWXT Inc, were found to have substandard welds, Defense News reported Tuesday. None had been installed on submarines yet, but the problem could delay construction timelines for the three boat classes.

US Military Spending $576 Million Training for Underground Warfare

Despite cooling tensions with North Korea, the US Army isn’t turning down the heat on its underground combat training programs, funneling over half a billion dollars into the effort.

The US Army is slowly accepting that its next war, which may be against “peer competitors” like Russia, China, or North Korea, will probably involve a wonderful deal of underground fighting. Many of the world’s most powerful militaries maintain vast subterranean facilities built to house command units, shield forces from nuclear or conventional attack, and to deliver unsuspecting sneak attacks on forces above ground — one estimate last year place the number at 10,000 worldwide.

GOVERNMENT ETHICS WATCHDOGS FEAR AMAZON’S WEB OF INFLUENCE MAY HAVE TAINTED PENTAGON’S $10 BILLION JEDI CLOUD DEAL

A former senior adviser to Secretary of Defense James Mattis was receiving payments from her sale of a consulting firm she founded that worked with Amazon’s cloud computing arm, while the Pentagon simultaneously crafted a $10 billion contract that many say is tilted in favor of the tech giant, a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation has found.

Sally Donnelly’s financial disclosure filings do not clearly state that she was receiving payments from the purchaser of her firm during her stay at the Pentagon, nor did she file a written recusal from involvement with the Department of Defense’s cloud computing contract. Government ethics experts say those factors taint the landmark deal with the specter of impropriety.

“It sounds that she was not fully paid off, which would be a violation of conflicts of interest if she took any official action that affected that business,” government affairs lobbyist Craig Holman of Public Citizen, a liberal watchdog, told TheDCNF.

'We shall not fail!' — The US Navy's new submarine fleet commander vows to take on Russia and China

As the new commander of US Submarine Forces took the reins Friday, he stressed that America will continue to dominate beneath the waves.

Vice Adm. Charles A. Richard relieved Vice Adm. Joseph E. Tofalo as head of US Submarine Forces and Allied Submarine Command Friday at a ceremony aboard the Virginia-class attack submarine USS Washington, according to a Navy release.

"The mission of our Submarine Force today is clear," Richard said. "We are back in a world in the midst of major power competition. In that competition our strength undersea is a key advantage that we have. That will not change on my watch. With so much at stake, we cannot let up and must execute our mission with a continued sense of urgency."

No Peace In Strengthening Iran Sanctions

President Trump is out of options. So are his main vectors of information, the Israeli Firsters in his cabinet and family. Israel, the U.S. and Saudi Arabia have lost the Syrian War and the ramifications of that are immense.

Because by losing this war the U.S. has been revealed as a paper tiger incapable of imposing its will on a world which is rapidly recoiling from its dominance.

Syria was the first time someone stood up and said, “No more.” Putin’s dramatic intervention in Syria was supported by all the same people in Trump’s crosshairs today: China, Iran and Hezbollah. Eventually, Turkey realized the U.S. could not be trusted, so they are targeted for economic destruction as well.

So, today’s impositions of new sanctions on Iran, the same playbook that Trump used against North Korea, is the only logical step on the path to the U.S. leaving the region.

Yes, you heard me, leaving the region.

NATO fighter jet ‘accidentally’ fires live missile near Russian border

Spanish fighter jets taking part in a NATO Air policing mission over Estonia have been temporarily suspended from completing their duties, after one of the pilots erroneously fired an armed missile during a training flight.

A group of two Spanish Eurofighter Typhoon 2000 jets and two French Mirage 2000 jets were taking part in a training exercise over southwestern Estonia on Tuesday when one of the Spanish planes accidentally launched an air-to-air missile, the Spanish Defense Ministry said in a statement, adding that the projectile “did not hit any aircraft.”

All the jets then safely returned to their Saiuliai air base in Lithuania, the ministry said, adding that it has opened an investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, the Estonian authorities decided to ban the Spanish aircraft from taking part in the air policing missions over its territory for a while.

State Dept Demands Russia Withdraw From Georgia’s Separatist Regions

In comments on Tuesday, State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert called on Russia to withdraw its military entirely from the two breakaway Republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The US does not recognize the regions’ independence.

The comments come 10 years after the brief Russo-Georgian War, during which Georgia attempted to attack South Ossetia, ended up fighting Russian troops therein, and fairly quickly lost. In the aftermath, Russia recognized the independence of both regions.

US-BACKED ALLIANCE IN YEMEN WAR BRIBES, RECRUITS AL-QAEDA WARLORDS, REPORT FINDS

Yemeni militias backed by Saudi Arabia, the United States and the United Arab Emirates are actively paying off al-Qaeda-allied factions to abstain from the fighting, and are recruiting al-Qaeda members to fight against Shiite rebels, according to a new investigative report. Ever since 2015, when the civil war in Yemen broke out, the US, along with its Arab allies UAE and Saudi Arabia, has supported Sunni troops in their war against Shiite Houthi rebels. The latter are believed to be supported by Iran, and the US-backed coalition is engaged in an effort to curtail what it sees as Iranian expansionism in the Middle East.

UK: Discrimination Against Christian Refugees

The British government appears recently to have decided that it would like to give the impression that it cares about persecuted Christians. Prime Minister Theresa May said in Parliament on July 18:

"As a Government we stand with persecuted Christians all over the world and will continue to support them."

The British Government even recently appointed its first Special Envoy on Freedom of Religion or Belief with Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, a former minister, filling the post.

Perhaps the UK should not be so quick to preach to others, when it does not appear to be doing much at home to help Syrian Christians, who have been among the most persecuted for their faith since the civil war in Syria began seven years ago:

Webmaster's Commentary:

Saying something, then doing the polar opposite of what was actually said, is pretty routine for the British government.

Three Reasons Why ‘Fire and Fury’ Won’t Work with Iran

What follows are major reasons why Trump is wrong if he thinks Iran will accede to his demands that it renegotiate a nuclear agreement with the United States to replace the JCPOA.

Reason One: Iran Isn’t Breaking the Law.

Reason Two: Iran Doesn’t Have to Win to Win.

Reason Three: Religious Democracy.

Donald Trump lives in a transactional universe where everything can be dealt away. While this approach might work with New York City real estate and may even have limited application in international affairs, it fails where issues derived from intangible principles—something that cannot be monetized—are at stake.

Aug 07 10:49

Will The Trump Administration Attack Iran?

For the moment, it appears that the Trump administration strategy—if such a term can be applied to a government headed by Donald Trump—is to step up economic pressure and propaganda against Iran, while reaching out to internal opponents of the regime and perhaps providing covert support at some point, if it is not doing so already. Even short of direct military action, this approach is both incoherent and dangerous. Squeezing Iran’s economy is likely to raise gas prices in the United States, and the Trump administration’s trade war against the very countries it needs to help isolate Iran economically does not offer great hopes for success on that front. But when economic pressure and indirect action don’t have the desired effect, what comes next?

Webmaster's Commentary:

Hartung missed one very critical factor, in an otherwise excellent reporting job; and that is the enormous pressure Israel's Netanyahu and Sheldon Adelson are placing on President Trump to go to war against Iran, and that is a momentous factor here, as was their cheer-leading to destroy Iraq, and advocate for its partition.

Yemen War’s Death Toll Largely Goes Uncounted

Since the Saudi invasion of Yemen in 2015 a lot of people have died. Saudi airstrikes have killed thousands of civilians. Huge numbers of combatants have died. Starvation and lack of medicine has taken many, many more. Yemen even saw the worst cholera epidemic in human history.

There hasn’t been an official estimate since, and while that reflects the reality that we just don’t know how many people are dying in Yemen, it also reflects what appears to be limited interest, at least among official agencies, in pinning that figure down.

Saudi Arabia is likely a big part of that, as many of the regular airstrikes where the Saudis kill scores of civilians are denied by the Saudis to have happened. Since the Saudis have managed to keep the UN from investigating their war crimes, it would follow that they prefer not to have gaudy official figures being thrown around to answer for.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Saudis and the US government are excellent at buying silence, however that works out: money, threats, infulenc

I, however, as a Christian pacifist activist, refuse to remain silent, and am compelled to bear witness to the war crimes in which the US is enabling Saudi Arabia. So, folks, this is what the US and Saudi Arabia are doing, in your names, and with your tax dollars in Yemen: (warning: graphic images)

Images: Yemeni children murdered by Saudi bombing runs

Images: Yemeni children starving to death, due to Saudi/US port blockades

All of the above is being done in your name, and with your tax dollars: doesn't it make you proud to be an American?!?

Doesn't it?!?

Unfortunately, Mike and I are both too old - and too broke - to emigrate to a country which does not indulge in war crimes; but right now, I truly wish we could.

The War Before the Iran War

Tucker Carlson has impeccable conservative credentials.

When Tucker talks, the president listens.

That’s why his commentary last week on Iran is so important.

Carlson initially supported the Iraq War but then became disenchanted about a year later, along with many others who’d ordered a cakewalk and received a quagmire instead. Now Carlson is warning Trump not to go down the same road as George W. Bush.

"If there’s one thing that Washington loves more than open borders and fat lobbying contracts, it’s pointless wars half a world away. Contractors get rich. Neocon intellectuals feel powerful. Bill Kristol, Max Boot, and Nancy Pelosi agree on one thing: War is good as long as the war does not help the United States. …

We are moving toward, however slowly, some kind of confrontation with Iran. And that should worry everybody, but it should especially be of concern to anyone who supported the president.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Hairy, indeed.

And what I am predicting, given President Trump's "drop dead date" past which he has commanded the world to no longer buy Iranian crude, is that some action by the US and Israel is going to happen some time on, or right after that date, 4 November, just two days before the US US mid-term elections.

Such a war may well be an unmitigated disaster for the US military, as at this moment in its history, it does not have the weaponry; the troop strength; the money, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome here; and that goes double strength, if Russia decides to join the fray on Iran's side.

FLASHBACK - The Power Elite Playbook, Burn All, Steal All, Kill All!

Burn all, steal all and kill all was the official policy of Japan’s imperialistic military and paramilitary groups like the Black Ocean and Black Dragon societies. Japanese citizens regarded their emperor as omnipotent or sanctioned by God; therefore obedience to government was deeply entrenched. Weapons technology, driven by the orchestrated Cold War with its staged enemies, has improved. Now it is nuke all, steal all and kill all. The Power Elite prototype, in most nations, reveals their consistent goal of depopulating the earth (to 500 million) and seizing all resources. “Those nations who ignore history are doomed to repeat its tragedies.” Or, those U.S. citizens who ignore readily-available history are doomed to suffer the consequences of their deception and ignorance.

DOLLAR DICTATORSHIP THE FOUNDATION OF AMERICAN EMPIRE - IRAN'S AHMADINEJAD

Former two-term Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the dollar is one of the major pillars of US dominance over global finance and trade. He has called for change in the current world order.

“Things need to change, current orders should be reordered,” the former leader of the Islamic Republic tweeted on Monday, hours before the first round of the US sanctions came into effect.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I hate it when I guy I don't particularly like, is absolutely, undeniably correct in his assessment.

But dedollarization is continuing apace, with Russia and China using domestic currencies in place of the dollar, and China softening its currency in order to make it a more attractive medium of trade.

The Death Of US And UK Neo-Colonialism

The colossal project to re-colonialize the world started with United States President Ronald Reagan eagerly backed by United Kingdom Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in 1981 and over the next 20 years seemed to sweep all before it.

But we can now see that the creation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the 9/11 attacks in 2001 marked the turn of the tide.

Since then one super-ambitious project of nation destruction and rebuilding after another generated by Washington and eagerly embraced by its main Western European allies has collapsed spectacularly.

As if living out one of Aesop’s Fables, the hammer of US kinetic power so eagerly embraced at the urging of neo-conservatives and neoliberals alike following the collapse of communism exhausted the Western wielders of the weapon instead of their targets.

ISRAEL ‘WELCOMES’ MURDER OF SYRIAN SCIENTIST – BUT DENIES ANY INVOLVEMENT IN ASSASSINATION

Israel’s minister of intelligence says he “welcomes” news that a Syrian scientist was killed by a car bomb, even as Tel Aviv denies any part in the murder. The New York Times reported that Israel’s Mossad was behind the attack.

Intelligence and Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz weighed in on allegations that Israeli Mossad agents killed Dr. Aziz Asbar near the northwestern Syrian city of Masyaf, commenting that "assuming that [Asbar] was indeed involved in terrorist activity, I welcome his departure from the world.”

Asbar, the research director at Syria’s Scientific Studies and Research Center, was believed to be developing a secret weapons manufacturing facility with the help of Iran, which was to be used to manufacture precision-guided missiles in Syria. He was killed on Saturday by an explosive device planted on his car.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Katz can choose to continue to lie all he wants to; this assassination had Mossad's fingerprints all over it!!

THE FALSE FLAG THAT STARTED THE VIETNAM WAR

This is a bit slow moving video, but stick with it.

1. The “incident” never happened and at least one of the radar man on duty knew and reported it (“Radar men” were later blamed for the false report.”
2. The Gulf of Tonkin resolution and all the immediate retaliatory actions after the “incident” had to have been planned weeks if not months in advance of August 4th.
3. We were lied into the Vietnam War with a faked incident attributed to North Vietnam – a classic false flag operation.

In 1964, Lyndon Johnson ran and won the presidency on a campaign of “No War in Vietnam.”

SAUDI ARABIA PLANNED TO INVADE QATAR LAST SUMMER. REX TILLERSON’S EFFORTS TO STOP IT MAY HAVE COST HIM HIS JOB.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders had called the attack “reckless, indiscriminate, and irresponsible,” but stopped short of blaming Russia, leading numerous media outlets to speculate that Tillerson was fired for criticizing Russia.

But in the months that followed his departure, press reports strongly suggested that the countries lobbying hardest for Tillerson’s removal were Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, both of which were frustrated by Tillerson’s attempts to mediate and end their blockade of Qatar. One report in the New York Times even suggested that the UAE ambassador to Washington knew that Tillerson would be forced out three months before he was fired in March.

The "Magnitsky Trio" Pushes For War With Russia With New Sanctions

If half of what I have come to understand about the Curious Case of Bill Browder is true, then the “Magnitsky Trio” of Senators John McCain, Lindsay Graham and Ben Cardin are guilty of espionage, at a minimum.

Why? Because they know that Browder’s story about Sergei Magnitsky is a lie. And that means that when you tie in the Trump Dossier, Christopher Steele, Fusion GPS, the Skripal poisoning and the rest of this mess, these men are consorting with foreign governments and agencies against the sitting President.

As Lee Stranahan pointed out recently on Fault Lines, Cardin invited Browder to testify to Congress in 2017 to push through last year’s sanctions bill, a more stringent version of the expiring Magnitsky Act of 2011, which has since been used to ratchet up pressure on Russia.

The Legacy of Infinite War

At a recent Pentagon press briefing, Task & Purpose’s Jeff Schogol asked General Joseph Votel, former SOCOM commander and the current chief of U.S. forces in the Greater Middle East, if “a new generation of children will grow up to have to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan.” Votel largely punted on the issue of how generational the war on terror might prove to be, but his answer was still a telling one. “I do recognize we’ve certainly been in Afghanistan for a long time – and of course, we’re back in Iraq for a second/third time addressing some of these problems,” he replied. “I think this is a reminder that these things often take time.”

Time indeed.

Iran Scrambles to Ready Economy for US Sanctions

With US sanctions against Iran officially going back into place on August 6, the Iranian government is scrambling to take some last minute measures to shore up their economy, and particularly their currency, before the sanctions start to hit.

Trying to protect the rial is a high priority, with a former central bank deputy governor and a number of foreign exchange dealers arrested amid the rial plummeting to all-time lows. On Monday, a rash of strict new measures are to be imposed on foreign currency access to try to limit any further falls.

Iran wants to make sure that what foreign currency does flow overseas is strictly allocated to a handful of important industries. The fall of prices for the rial has been heavy related to the surge in the price of gold, as economic uncertainty has many Iranians running to precious metals, and gold imports surged in recent weeks.

US sanctions aim to limit, if not totally eliminate, Iran’s access to foreign markets.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So what does President Trump intend to do with the countries which have already stated, publicly, that they will not observe the sanctions, declare war against them all?!?

I do not think that we are looking at a war against Iran immediately; but President Trump has declared Sunday, 4 November, as the "drop dead date" past which no countries on the planet are supposed to buy Iranian oil. That's just two days ahead of mid-term elections. I would imagine that we might see some kind of limited attack against Iran on either Monday, 5 November, or right on the date of the mid-terms, which would be 6 November.

Heavy Fighting in Yemen Port City: Over 80 Killed in Last Two Days

Having resumed their offensive last week, Saudi-led forces pushed into the Yemeni port city oh Hodeidah over the weekend. They faced heavy resistance, and the whole weekend saw fighting raging across the area.

At least 80 people were killed, with heavy casualties reported on both sides. Among the killed, 30 fighters who were part of a UAE-led force pushing into the city from the south. They were ambushed just south of the Hodeidah airport.

Hodeidah is the last rebel-held port in Yemen, and subsequently the lone source of aid for the entire northern half of the country. It is estimated the port imports food for 8.4 million people, and this has led to repeated warnings that the conquest of the city could lead to a more or less immediate, major famine.

Webmaster's Commentary:

More famine; more disease; and fewer bombs and bullets needed to kill what is left of the Yemeni people; this is what America's Merchant of Death in Chief (AKA, President Trump) and Saudi Arabia's B.O.Y. (AKA the Butcher of Yemen) want to see happen here, and quickly.

And if it does not happen quickly enough to suit their liking, look for a massive carpet bombing campaign to start; after all, the US and Saudi Arabian leadership have utterly no qualms about killing innocent civilians.

They do it all the time here.

SIXTY DEAD, OVER 100 WOUNDED IN SAUDI AIR STRIKES ON YEMENI PORT CITY

The toll from US-backed Saudi coalition air strikes on a fish market and hospital in the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah Thursday has risen to at least 60 people dead and 130 others wounded. The bombardment, which has been all but ignored by the establishment press, comes amid a weeks-long siege of the western city and coalition efforts to destroy vital civilian infrastructure, threatening to sharply escalate the world’s most dire humanitarian crisis.

Saudi coalition warplanes struck a crowded Hodeidah fish market as throngs of residents packed in to purchase one of Yemen’s only abundant domestic sources of food. Witnesses report a chaotic scene as a warplane overhead fired upon the packed market, then continued to linger above the city. As people rushed the dead and injured to the al-Thawra hospital just 20 meters (60 feet) away, the warplane began bombing the entrance to the hospital, apparently to prevent the injured from receiving treatment.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With these attacks doing nothing to forward Saudi Arabia's and the US's military posture soon here, look for a complete carpet bombing of the country to commence shortly, and the phrase "body count" to come back into the corporate presstitutes' lexicon shortly, if they cover this at all.

ISHCHENKO: Will The End Of The US Empire Mean World War 3?

The Russian people are living in fear. The fear of war is greater than during the Cuban Missile Crisis. And this fear has not passed over.

We were afraid of war in the most acute period of the Ukrainian crisis. Then it faded into the background, only for grounds for fear to be created by periodic escalations in Syria (Turkey knocks down a plane here, the US won’t shoot there, and so on). A few weeks ago, the expectations of war increased due to the US-Korea conflict. It is safe to say that they will not cease even after the discussions between Pyongyang and Washington (for the umpteenth time) pass over into a routine phase.

But fear of a global conflict involving nuclear powers is not the sole prerogative of Russian society. The fear of war is growing all over the world. And in Europe it is even more so than in Russia or the US, and Eastern Europe has been struck more than the West.

HEAD OF SYRIA RESEARCH CENTRE KILLED IN CAR BOMBING

The head of a Syrian research facility that Western countries say was part of a chemical weapons programme was killed when his car was blown up, the pro-Syrian government newspaper al-Watan said on Sunday.

Aziz Asber was the director of the Syrian Scientific Research Centre in Masyaf, near the city of Hama, which Western governments say was a covert Syrian government installation.

“(Asber) died after an explosion targeted his car in the Hama countryside,” al-Watan said in an online report.

The explosion occurred on Saturday night, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitoring group said. Who or what caused it is not known.

The Masyaf facility has previously been hit by what the Syrian government said were Israeli strikes in July and last year in September.

In April, missile strikes by the United States, Britain and France destroyed a Syrian Scientific Research Centre facility in Damascus, in response to a suspected poison gas attack.

China, Syria: Officials Say the Chinese Military Is Willing to Help the Syrian Army Retake Idlib

Both China's ambassador to Syria as well as its military attache in the country have raised the possibility of Chinese military operations in Syria alongside the Syrian government. Chinese Ambassador Qi Qianjin reportedly stated that the Chinese "military is willing to participate in some way alongside the Syrian army that is fighting the terrorists in Idlib and in any other part of Syria," while military attache Wong Roy Chang reportedly said the Chinese military could participate in an operation to retake rebel-held Idlib if Beijing made the political decision for it to do so.

It is important to stress that neither statement is a confirmation that China is about to send military forces to participate in combat operations in Syria. However, the comments, if true, would mark the closest confirmation we have had of such a possibility.

THE MYSTERY FIXER WHO IS NEGOTIATING AN END TO THE SYRIAN WAR

After seven years of grinding war, the Syrian government has achieved victory. According to current and former international officials and diplomats as well as UN officials, credit or blame for the Syrian government’s recent victories in East Ghouta and then in the south — along with the tacit acceptance these sweeping military successes received — can be placed on one man.

He is Khaled al Ahmad, a Syrian government emissary and businessman who masterminded the Syrian government’s reconciliation strategy. Al Ahmad is the secret diplomat who has exerted exceptional tolls of energy building bridges with the enemies of Damascus. Despite his central role in bringing one of the worst conflicts since World War Two to an end, he remains almost totally unknown in international media and has scarcely been discussed even among expert Syria observers.

Webmaster's Commentary:

To have accomplished what he has done, this Khaled al Ahmad must be nothing short of a miracle worker.

Polish Military Injures US Soldiers in Street Fight

One of the soldiers has reportedly remained hospitalized in a serious condition since July 22, when the fight took place in front of a bar in the town of Zlocieniec in the province of West Pomerania. The other injured soldier has already re-joined his unit.

A court in the Polish city of Szczecin has already sent a Polish soldier suspected of beating two US servicemen to jail for three months, as the local outlet Wpost has reported. He faces eight years in prison.

As spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Szczecin, whose military department investigates the case, Malgorzata Wojciechowicz has told the media, that during the fight one of them sustained serious injuries, while the other was only slightly harmed. However, the official has declined to give any further details, so as not to interfere with the ongoing investigation.

The United States Is The Only Remaining Colonial Power

The United States government has never allowed independent governments in Latin America. US Military Spending Bill Includes Provisions on Civilian Casualties in War

Passed on Wednesday, the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) included a lot of details above and beyond just spending $716 billion on the military. Two provisions were in the final bill focused on dealing with civilian casualties in America’s assorted wars.

The language requires the Pentagon to create a high-ranking civilian post, at or above the level of an Assistant Secretary of Defense, who would be in charge of establishing uniform processes on recording strikes, investigating reported casualties, reducing risks to civilians, and establishing a uniform standard for both acknowledging responsibility and offering payments for the families of victims.

The Little Known Black Hole in the Pentagon Budget

The Pentagon is often described as a black hole of government spending. Just how bad is it these days? The Defense Department spent $21 billion in taxpayer money over two years without telling anyone what services were rendered or which companies benefitted.

Normally, watchdog groups can at least identify the agency’s frivolous spending and tease out who the major beneficiaries are. But under something called Other Transaction Authority (OTA), the Pentagon can award money without the usual disclosures or due diligence normally required of federal contracts. Voila! A black hole.

YEMEN OFFERS PEACE TO SAUDI ARABIA, HOUTHI LEADER ANNOUNCES CEASEFIRE

Yemen’s Houthis (Ansar Allah) have submitted an initiative they hope will bring an end to conflict in Yemen and have unilaterally suspended retaliatory attacks against Saudi-led coalition forces in the Red Sea in order to support this effort.

A source in the Supreme Political Council, the highest political authority in Sana’a, told MintPress that the halt in retaliatory attacks in the Red Sea is aimed at preserving the Yemeni people and comes in response to regional and international efforts to bring peace to Yemen.

The initiative comes less than one week after Saudi Arabia temporarily suspended all oil shipments through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The coalition has thus far not commented on the initiative.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Fingers crossed: the Yemeni people have suffered enough, 3 years on.

WAR IS A RACKET: AFTER 17 YEARS AND BILLIONS WASTED, US SEEKS PEACE WITH TALIBAN

Afghanistan, long acknowledged to be America's "forgotten war", has finally returned to the news of late. But this time, in a shocking twist on the now 17-year long conflict, the US is negotiating with the Taliban.

Perhaps this is why the mainstream media has by and large not given this bombshell story the coverage it deserves? Or do the major networks feel the American public has long ago stopped paying attention and will therefore yawn at any headlines containing the words 'US Troops/Afghanistan'?

As Daniel McAdams explains, last week US State Department officials met with Taliban leaders in Qatar. At the request of the Taliban, the US-backed Afghan government was not invited. The officials discussed ceasefires and an end to the war.

Meanwhile, the US inspector general charged with monitoring US spending on Afghanistan reconstruction has reported that since 2008, the US has completely wasted at the least $15.5 billion. He believes that's just the tip of the iceberg, though.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The pushers of this war in Congress should never, ever have been re-elected, from the moment they signed on.

Army using drug waivers, bonuses to fill ranks

Under the gun to increase the size of the force, the Army is issuing more waivers for past drug use or bad conduct by recruits, and pouring an extra $200 million into bonuses this year to attract and retain soldiers.

According to data obtained by The Associated Press, nearly one-third of all the waivers granted by the Army in the first six months of this fiscal year were for conduct and drug problems, mainly involving marijuana use. That number is significantly higher than the other three military services, and represents a steady increase over the past three years.

54 Years Ago Today, Gov’t and Media Created & Spread ‘Fake News’ to Start the Vietnam War

If you are to believe the official story, one of America’s deadliest wars in history, Vietnam, was started after the United States had been attacked in the Gulf of Tonkin in the South China Sea. However, over the past 54 years, a deluge of information and government officials have come forward showing that most everything the government and the media told Americans about the Gulf of Tonkin was a lie.

Often, the American mainstream media becomes a de facto government employee, taking the claims of U.S. officials and reporting them as proven fact — and nothing exemplifies this penchant better than reporting on the Gulf of Tonkin incident — perhaps one of most flagrant lies ever dreamed up as a justification for war.

Trump's Space Force is real, and here are the reported details

President Donald Trump's order to create a sixth branch of the US Armed Forces called the Space Force is becoming very real.

The US Defense Department will take steps to create the new military branch this week, according to Defense One, though Congress hasn't yet fully backed the order.

President Trump directed the department to create a Space Force on live TV last month, after floating the idea in March. Some people haven't taken the idea so seriously, spawning a host of memes mocking the order.

But the new military branch appears to be materializing quickly.

Pentagon JEDI Program Likely to be Serviced by Amazon

Analysts and insiders told the Washington Times that Amazon is the military’s top choice to secure its contract for a cloud project called the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI), which is reportedly meant to revolutionize the way the Pentagon shares military data.

Bidding opened for contractors on the project last week, sparking interest throughout the technology sector, ranging from Microsoft to IBM. However, Amazon is reportedly the only company that meets the Defense Department's regulations on handling classified information.

Iran’s Navy Assembles Near Mouth of Persian Gulf, US ‘Monitoring it Closely

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) appears to be preparing for a major display of force in the Strait of Hormuz, the only outlet from the Persian Gulf to the open sea, demonstrating its ability to shut down the strategically important waterway.

US Central Command tweeted Wednesday that American forces are closely watching the developing situation, with the Iranian exercise expected to begin in the next 48 hours.

President Hassan Rouhani listens to explanations on new nuclear achievements at a ceremony to mark National Nuclear Day, in Tehran, Iran, Monday, April 9, 2018

Webmaster's Commentary:

Please, Lord, no miscommunications or misunderstandings between commanders of both US and Iranian vessels in this Iranian naval exercises.

Patience, and true international naval etiquette need to be observed by both sides at all times.

The Looming War Against Iran

We are by now used to blood and thunder rhetoric between Washington and Tehran. But this time White House policy is clearly being directed by pro-Israel American neocons who want the US military to crush Iran as it did Iraq.

Crushing Iran will leave Israel with unfettered control of the Mideast and its oil – unless Russia or Turkey intervene against Israel, which is most unlikely. Some think Russia and Israel – and the US – have already made a deal to divvy up the central Mideast.

The Pentagon has planned a high-intensity air war against Iran that Israel and the Saudis might very well join. The plan calls for over 2,300 air strikes against Iranian strategic targets: airfields and naval bases, arms and petroleum, oil and lubricant depots, telecommunication nodes, radar, factories, military headquarters, ports, water works, airports, missile bases and units of the Revolutionary Guards.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF Margolis' information is correct (and I have to wonder about where he got the intel on the 2,300 + airstrikes), and Russia has already signed off on the plan because it will give Russia more control of regional oil, this will be a crushing blow for both the Iranian people, and also for the Palestinians, whose cause Iranians have steadfastly supported.

How many more dead and maimed Americans have to fall to insure that Israel's plans for the Middle East will be successfully consummated?!?

At this point in time, when you join America's military, you will most likely die for Israel.

Please share this with anyone you know who is even thinking about enlisting right now.

As US Adds Preconditions, Iran Rejects Offer of Talks

Trump's vow of 'no preconditions' lasts less than 24 hours.

President Trump surprised many on Monday when he announced his willingness to meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani “without preconditions.” Within less than a day, the administration had already started attaching substantial preconditions to the offer.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, early on Tuesday, began establishing preconditions, saying that Iran needed to commit to “fundamental changes to how they treat their own people, reduce their malign behavior, agree that it’s worthwhile to enter into a nuclear agreement that actually prevents proliferation.”

These preconditions almost certainly make the offer impossible, as the US treats Iranian foreign policy as necessarily “malign behavior,” and Iran is neither going to agree to deeper isolation, nor to the need for another nuclear deal while still trying to preserve the one the already signed, and which the US dishonored earlier this year.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Trump's warhawks, with Netanyahu and Adelson cheerleading the moves, are engineering this relationship to go as south as far as humanly possible, and are positioning the President into a very narrow field of play, where war is being presented to him as the "only reasonable option" against Iran.

And what is this malarkey about "malign behaviour" and needing "... changes in how they treat their own people."?!?

And there is one aspect of a potential US war against Iran which I hope is keeping these warhawks up at night; if the US goes to war against Iran, what will Russia do?!?

Because should Russia get involved in such a war, the US military does not have the troop strength; the money; the weaponry; or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome in Iran against Russia.

Those are just the facts.

Chinese State Media: NATO ‘Should Be Relegated to the Dustbin of History’

A column in China’s Communist Party People’s Daily newspaper commended President Donald Trump on Monday for allegedly exhibiting “disdain” for NATO, calling for the eradication of the military coalition entirely.

The People’s Daily lamented that NATO continues to exist, demanding the group “should be relegated to the dustbin of history.” In particular, the publication appeared disappointed that American foreign policy experts condemned Trump for criticizing the current state of NATO rather than urging him to dismantle it entirely.

The newspaper compared NATO unfavorably to global agreements that the Chinese regime prefers, like the Iran nuclear deal and the Paris Agreement on climate change, suggesting these were worth keeping but the agreements that bind NATO together are not.

‘We are fighting for information about war’: Pentagon curbs media access: Defense Secretary James Mattis has not briefed reporters on-camera in the Pentagon since April, while his chief spokeswoman has not done so since May.

At a mid-July news conference at the Pentagon, AP reporter Lolita Baldor asked Gen. Mark Milley, the Army chief of staff, about an attack in Afghanistan that had led to the death of an American soldier. But before he could reply, a Defense Department press officer cut in to say that Milley and the three officials flanking him would be answering questions only about the intended topic for the news conference: the announcement of the location of a new command.

The next question went to Jennifer Griffin from Fox News. Over the previous two days, President Donald Trump had roiled the NATO summit in Brussels with verbal shots at the alliance’s members, so Griffin, after opening with a question about the new command, added, “I’m afraid I’m going to have to agree with Lita, we don’t have an opportunity to see you enough. Gen. Milley, have you reached out to your counterparts in Europe after the NATO summit to reassure them that the U.S. forces are staying?”

Webmaster's Commentary:

The reason for this is very simple; the American Deep State does not want the American people to really understand how badly things are going for the American military in Afghanistan; Libya; Iraq; Syria; Africa; and Yemen, where US-enabled Saudi war crimes just get worse, with no US coverage, except in independent media outlets like WRH.

IF the US was actually "winning" in these countries, we would see enforced coverage of just how well we were doing; because the US is "not willing" militarily in these countries and continents, there is no coverage, but we won't see any withdrawal of US forces either, because that will "make it appear" that the US military has lost.

HOW BRICS-PLUS CLASHES WITH THE US ECONOMIC WAR ON IRAN

The key take away from the BRICS summit in Johannesburg is that Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – important Global South players – strongly condemn unilateralism and protectionism.

The Johannesburg Declaration is unmistakable:

“We recognize that the multilateral trading system is facing unprecedented challenges. We underscore the importance of an open world economy.”

Closer examination of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s speech unlocks some poignant details.

Xi, crucially, emphasizes delving further into “our strategic partnership.” That implies increased BRICS and Beyond BRICS multilateral trade, investment and economic and financial connectivity.

And that also implies reaching to the next level;

Webmaster's Commentary:

The reimposition of sanctions against Iran start next Monday; the drop-dead date by which no countries on earth will be allowed to purchase Iranian crude or face US sanctions is Sunday, 4 November, two days away from Midterm elections in the US.

Countries around the world are scrambling to see what they can barter for Iranian crude, to get around potential sanctions, and there are many ways in which this could happen.

IF President Trump is going to "do something" regarding Iran which is military in nature, I would suggest that it will be the 4th or 5th of November, primarily to insure that his faithful go to the polls, and keep a Republican majority in both the House and Senate.

A cynical use of international military power to insure domestic political victory?!?

It wouldn't be the first time that has happened in America's history.

"YOU ARE CRIMINALIZING DIPLOMACY!" PROFESSOR STEPHEN COHEN SLAMS NEOCON MAX BOOT IN CNN DEBATE

Stephen Cohen schooled prominent 'Never Trump' neocon and Council on Foreign Relations member Max Boot on CNN's Anderson Cooper this week on the Trump-Putin Helsinki summit and general charges related to 'Russiagate'.

It's worth watching especially as it underscores why recognized academic experts are rarely given airtime on the mainstream networks if their perspective lies outside the accepted media group-think on Russia.

“I‘ve been studying Russia for 45 years,” Professor Stephen Cohen said as the debate got heated. “I‘ve lived in Russia, and I’ve lived here.”

But predictably Boot cut him off, leveling the standard ad hominem that's become the standard fallback retort to any 'contrarian' analysis, saying Cohen has been “consistently an apologist for Russia those 45 years.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder in how many military industrial complex companies Boot is invested, that his only answer to Russia would be "War and Now!!"

Freedom of Navigation Doctrine Challenged: The de facto threat to shipping through the Bab al-Mandab must not be allowed to stand

With all the media focus on President Trump’s recent meeting with Russia’s Vladimir Putin, a major event took place last week in the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait, which received little notice. The Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have acknowledged that they fired a missile supplied by Iran from the vicinity of the port city of Hodeida that hit a Saudi Aramco tanker. In response, even though there was little damage, Saudi Arabia has suspended all its shipping from transiting the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Clearly, the Houthi rebels have seriously challenged the internationally-recognized “Freedom of Navigation” doctrine. The concept is that the internationally-recognized open waters of the world, including all strategic straits, should remain open and free for all commercial shipping. By extension, this includes the peaceful transit of naval forces as well.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Admiral Lyons, a word, please: just in case you have missed this development, Saudi Arabia has been at war against Yemen for the last 3 years, sir.

It is a war where Saudi war crimes are enabled by the US government, and the US military. These targets include innocent women, children, the medically fragile elderly, hospitals, schools and residences. Children are starving, and dying of (potentially weaponised) cholera, courtesy of Saudi blockades of Yemeni ports.

These images of Yemen are what people should be seeing in their nightly news, but are not: (warning: horrifically graphic)

Images: Yemeni children assassinated in Saudi bombing runs

Horrifying images of starving children reveal the ongoing toll of Yemen's forgotten war.

As I am a Christian pacifist activist, I have a moral responsibility to witness to these war crimes, and will never fail to do so, as information comes available from independent resources.

Admiral, I understand your concern about oil traffic not getting affected by this war, in light that the Yemeni Houthi saw this Saudi tanker a reasonable target for retribution against Saudi Arabia.

This kind of attack could potentially continue to go for years, as a retaliation for the Saudi bombing creating a genocide in Yemen.

But Admiral, I do have a modest proposal with which I believe that even you might concur.

International Leaders need to get Saudi Arabia to stop dropping bombs on Yemen, and create an environment where a political resolution between the Houthi rebels, the Yemeni people, and the Saudi government here is possible.

THAT, sir, would cure the problem.

And BTW, concerning your accusation that an Iranian missile was used: where, please, is your incontrovertible proof that this was the case?!? Where is the forensic evidence your claim is actually true?!?

Because unless the world can see the forensics, there is no way to know who manufactured the missile, is there, sir?!?

UFLASHBACK 2016 - .S. Official: Russia Could Defeat NATO in Less Than 3 Days

Could Russia really take down NATO in just a couple of days? A Department of Defense official has backed the Rand Corporation think tank's claim that the Russian military could defeat NATO forces in the Baltics in just 60 hours. The statement is the latest in a string of warnings that the Atlantic Alliance is too weak to mount a defense of its member nations.

Israel Has No Right of Self-Defense Against Gaza

But the fact is, Israel cannot claim a right to use any force in Gaza — whether moderate or excessive, proportionate or disproportionate; whether protesters are unarmed or armed, don’t or do pose an imminent threat to life. If it appears otherwise, that’s because the current debate ignores critical caveats in international law and abstracts from the specific situation in Gaza.

What International Law Says

To justify its use of force in Gaza, Israel claims the right to prevent alien intrusion into its sovereign territory. An Israeli legal commentator observes that this professed concern for the sanctity of the Gaza “border” is opportunistically selective. Israel invades Gaza at will; only when Palestinians seek to cross in the other direction does the fence become sacrosanct.

The Palestinian people in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza are struggling to achieve their internationally validated “right to self-determination” (International Court of Justice).

Heavy Fighting Kills Dozens South of Yemen’s Key Port City

While the first airstrikes against Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah show that fighting is likely to quickly return to focusing on the port itself, in recent days, witnesses say heavy fighting has raged just south of the city.

A lot of the fighting on the ground is in and around Zabid, one of the oldest towns in Yemen and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dozens of fighters were reported to have been killed on both sides of the fight.

The Hodeidah Province was mostly under the control of the Houthi rebels, and the Saudi-led forces are pushing into the area, trying to take over the vital aid port. This is the last aid port under rebel control, and the source of food imports for about 70% of Yemen.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The B.O.Y. (The Butcher of Yemen, AKA Saudi Prince Bin Salman) and the US's Merchant of Death in Chief, President Trump, both want to see disease and starvation, and untargeted assassinations coming from the destruction of this Yemeni port to continue, unabated.

And THIS is what that looks like to Yemeni kids on the ground: (warning: graphic images follow)

Images: Yemeni children assassinated by Saudi bombing runs

Images:
Yemeni children starving to death, courtesy of Saudi port blockades

And your government is enabling these Saudi war crimes by providing guidance and refueling to the fighter jets causing this genocide.

How does it feel to be a citizen of a country enabling war crimes in Yemen?!? Not very good, is it, living in this (alleged and former) bastion of "democracy", the Unhinged Surveilled State of Amerika?!?

It takes all the energy and discipline I have sometimes, to look at events like this, and not just fall apart at the seams. But when I look at the faces of the kids in these photos, dead, and dying, I understand that giving up on being a peaceful, Christian witness to these crimes is something I cannot, morally, afford to do right now.

Suffering starts all over again in Gaza

Fadel Abu al-Qumsan has survived two attacks in the past four years.

Early on 3 August 2014, Israel bombed his home in the Jabaliya refugee camp of northern Gaza. Two of his nieces and his brother-in-law were killed.

In recent months, Fadel, 53, and his family have once again been hurt by Israeli state violence.

On 6 April 2018, Fadel joined the Great March of Return to demand that Palestinians uprooted by Zionist forces in 1948 be allowed to return home.

At approximately 3 pm, he fell to the ground screaming. He had been shot in the leg by an Israeli sniper.

Fadel was roughly 700 meters from the boundary fence between Gaza and Israel at the time.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel, particularly with the passage of the "Nation State of Jewish people" law, has quickly become the "assassination nation" of the Middle East, when it comes to Palestinians.

US confirms deployment of armed drones in Niger

The United States military's Africa Command has confirmed that its forces began deploying armed drones in Niger earlier this year.

The West African country's government granted American forces permission in November 2017 to arm their drones - but neither side had previously confirmed their deployment.

"In coordination with the Government of Niger, US Africa Command has armed intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft already in Niger to improve our combined ability to respond to threats and other security issues in the region. Armed ISR aircraft began flying in early 2018," Samantha Reho, spokeswoman for US Africa Command told The Associated Press on Monday.

The armed drones are currently deployed to Niger's Air Base 101 in the capital, Niamey. Reho said the effort was supported by Niger's government, describing it as part of the long-term strategic partnership between the two countries to counter armed groups in the region.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why the hell are US troops in Niger?!?

Well, let's start little refresher course on the natural resources of Niger.

A-Z Mining:
Niger

The article goes on to state: "The natural resources of Niger include uranium, coal, gold, iron ore, tin, phosphates, petroleum, molybdenum, salt, and gypsum. Niger has some of the largest uranium reserves in the world. It also has a good amount of oil reserves. Experts state that Niger’s exports are likely to expand significantly by year 2016."

The US presence in Niger is simply to insure that its government remains US/Western-Centric; that other dissenting groups cannot come to power; that those resources outlined above are only allowed to be developed by Western-centric global entities; and that they are sold only in US dollars.

Russian Ambassador Tells Israel: We Can’t Force Iran to Leave Syria

Speaking on Israel’s Channel 10 news, Russian Ambassador Anatoly Viktorov told the interviewer that Russia cannot force Iran to withdraw its military from Syria, no matter how many times Israel demands them to.

Israel has been demanding Russian intervention for months, but Iran has ruled out leaving unless Syria tells them to. Russia tried to come up with a compromise where Iranian forces would stay 100 km from the buffer zone, but Israel rejected that as well.

Viktorov told the reporters that Iran’s military presence in Syria “is fully legitimate according to the UN principles and the UN charter.” He added that Russia is “not okay” with any Israeli attacks on Syria, but that it wasn’t up to Russia to prevent them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Israeli government loves the "big lie" technique, both to exaggerate their own claims, and also to terrify their domestic population.

It will be interesting to see what Israel does regarding Syria after this announcement; but I would not believe that backing off their attacks against Syria will happen any time soon.

US-Turkey to Conduct Joint Patrols in Syria, Pentagon Head Mattis Says

The United States and Turkey will start joint military patrols in Syria in a matter of weeks, US Secretary of Defense James Mattis told reporters on Friday.

"I mean, you got to do the training… I think that we’re talking about weeks," Mattis said. "I don’t know how many. Two, four, six, but I don’t think we’re talking months."

Mattis noted there are already Turkish and US patrols on the ground, but they are separate.

"It’s already happening on opposite sides where the two of the patrols go along, and they get to certain points, they wait for the other one to get there," Mattis said. "If somebody gets there first and then they do recognition signals back and forth and they move onto the next one."

Mattis explained all the conditions for establishing joint patrols are being set for them to go forward, and the Turkish and US militaries have put together all the planning while the training equipment has landed at the Incirlik air base in Turkey.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Apparently, Mattis and Edrogan believe that there is no such thing as Syrian territorial integrity.

And what happens when they run into either Syrian or Russian forces?!?

It looks as though the US and Turkish governments are hell-bent to prevent any possible real peace here.

Russia is aware of US & Western military plans – Russian FM

Moscow knows what military actions Washington and its Western allies might be plotting against it, but the country is well protected, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

“Our awareness of what plans the US and other Western countries’ militaries are nursing in relation to the Russian Federation is guaranteed,” Lavrov told the participants of the Russian youth educational forum “Territory of Meanings”, held some 200km from Moscow in Vladimir Region.

The US has been actively deploying its air-defense systems around the globe, including on Russia’s doorstep, in the Baltic states, and Japan. But the top diplomat said the country shouldn’t worry “no matter what happens in the world,” as its security is ensured. He was citing Russian President Vladimir Putin and new developments in the Russian Army.
