Drums Along The Potomac

The amateur psychologist in me suspects that the more the USA heaps Russia with censorious opprobrium and punishments, the closer this floundering polity actually is to completely losing its shit. Friday morning’s front-page headline in The New York Times appears to have been written by Pee Wee Herman:

"Finally, Trump has something bad to say about Russia."

I can just hear Vlad Putin blowing a raspberry out of the Kremlin: “Nyah, nyah, nyah… I know you are, but what am I…?” We’re also informed today by that august journal that U.S. Accuses Russia in Cyberattacks on Power Plants. (Oh, wait a second, they changed the headline at 8:02 to Russia Wormed Its Way Into Access at Power Plants, U.S. Says.)

Webmaster's Commentary:

The hunger for a war against Russia is reaching a very intense place in the Bowels of Power in DC; not because it is morally right, but it might be something with which the US government wants to distract us. There is a financial collapse coming, and one might say, relatively soon.

But the US government is having one hell of a time, because this time, the American people are very skeptical, as they have every right to be, when it comes to its leadership declaring war, or just starting to attack, the allegedly bad government it doesn't like.

But the lost credibility of this government is causing its people to never believe anything it says, ever again. Credibility is delicate; and once it has been broken, and shown to be a sham, that goverment loses it forever.

Neocon Specter of John Bolton Looms Over Trump White House

John Bolton as National Security Adviser, with Nikki Haley in Bolton’s old job at the U.N. and fundamentalist Christian dominionist Mike Pompeo moving from CIA director to replace Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State, means that the neocons — never happy with the prospects of a Trump administration – will, once again, be in the driver’s seat of American foreign policy after a nine-year hiatus. Bolton’s tenure at the U.N. was punctuated by his own undiplomatic outbursts, as well as those of his spokesman, Richard Grenell, Trump’s nominee to be US ambassador to Germany. Bolton strenuously pushed the neocon foreign policy line, as spelled out in the charter for the movement founded in 1997, the Project for the New American Century (PNAC).

Webmaster's Commentary:

Should this happen, this will be officially horrible.

Saudis in Secret Peace Talks With Yemen’s Houthis

Publicly, Saudi Arabia has shown no sign of looking for a negotiated end to the war in Yemen. Behind the scenes, however, they’ve been in secret talks with the Shi’ite Houthis for the past two months.

Three years into the Saudi invasion, signs are that there is some war weariness, and that they’ve been making secretive approaches to the Houthis, by way of neighboring Oman, for the past two months. Diplomats say the Houthis are eager for a diplomatic agreement.

One senior Houthi confirmed that the talks have been underway, with spokesman Mohammed Abdul-Salam repeatedly traveling to Oman for meetings with Saudi officials, and trying to carve out a “comprehensive political solution.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF, in fact, these reports are true, there may be a reason for hope in Yemen.

Return of the Neo-Cons: Mike Pompeo and the Death of Diplomacy

Secretary Tillerson was far from an ideal choice, but his anointed successor at the State Department – Mike Pompeo – may ditch diplomacy all together and start a war!

We both attended West Point. That’s where the commonalities end. I’ve been a soldier opposed to (endless) war; he’ll be a statesman opposed to peace. That should give us cause for pause.

So who is Mike Pompeo? The short answer: a startlingly hawkish Tea Party Republican oilman with a penchant for combative rhetoric and a near hysterical hatred for Iran. But he’s smart – valedictorian of his West Point class and a graduate of Harvard – and that makes him even more dangerous. His primary qualification, though, is his loyalty and propensity for mind-melding with his boss, Donald Trump. For the last year, he often personally delivered Trump’s presidential daily briefing (PDB) at the White House each morning and they agree on just about everything; as Trump says of Pompeo: "we’re always on the same wavelength."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Under Pompeo's watch, we may well be looking at more wars, until we wind up in a war with Russia.

I would not be surprised at seeing an attempt at the reinstitution of the draft in this country, this time, coming for our young women as well as our young men.

GOP Leaders Want to Delay Yemen War Powers Vote

Expectations are that the Senate War Powers vote on the Yemen War, SJ Res 54, will come up for debate and a vote next week. That may not happen if the Republican leadership gets its way, however, as many are opposed to the bill, and are trying to stall a vote.

Some leaders are arguing the issue is too “divisive,” and that the matter should be sent back to a committee for closer study. Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN), by contrast, endorsed the Pentagon’s argument, saying the US does so much military engagement around the world that it would be dangerous to think the War Powers Act could apply to all of it.

But of course the whole point of the War Powers Act is that it does apply to any commitment of US forces overseas. It’s just that in recent years, presidents have relied on catch-all authorizations with vague limits to join some wars, and other times simply assumed Congress wouldn’t mind, as they generally have not minded.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The reality of this situation is, having armed, and provided guidance and mid-air refueling to the Saudi military, the US government has colluded in Saudi war crimes in Yemen:

There is nothing "divisive" about this; it is as real a statement of fact as are all the other horrible facts about this sordid military campaign in Yemen, 3 years on, and with no resolution in sight:

Saudi coalition killed hundreds of children in Yemen, confidential UN report claims

Because Yemen cannot grow its own food, and it has to be imported, the Saudis, with US military assistance, have blockaded the ports, meaning that malnutrition is causing death, and a massive health crisis for the country.

Cholera (perhaps weaponised?!?) and diptheria now haunt Yemen:
Images: Yemen malnutrition has generated a cholera crisis

The skyrocketing increase in massive fetal abnormalites, cancers and stillbirths in Yemen indicate that the Saudis have used depleted uranium, with the predictable results on Yemen's children:

Image: Yemeni child exposed to du in the womb (image courtesy of RUPTLY

In my world, the poisoning of a child in the womb with this atrocious weapon, is criminal and inhuman beyond belief. And what gets me, is that the man who ordered this campaign, is not at all an uneducated man; Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, is very bright, university educated, has a law degree, and wound up 2nd in his class.

But could his hatred of the Iranian Shiias, who are acting as advisors to the Houthi rebels, be so great as to compel him to order the death, by direct military assaults; starvation, and disease, of non-combatants, and Yemen's children?!?

Sadly, the short answer here is "Yes"; and as a Christian pacifist activist, I will have to continue to bear witness to these atrocities on this site as long as I have breath.

When you destroy the children of a country, you destroy that country's future.

History will not be kind to this man; I understand that he is known by many honorifics in Saudi Arabia, because he is Saudi royalty.

History, however, will remember him as the Butcher of Yemen.

Senator Corker, the US government has to stop this madness; as you are perfectly aware, according to our Constitution, only Congress can declare war. It has not done so in Yemen.

I don't know what your portfolio holds in terms of weapons stocks, but I do know approximately, your net worth: Google has scrubbed the articles on this, but there are always other places to go to find such facts:

Senator Corker Undervalued his Wealth by Millions The story, from 2015, stated the following:

And Senator Schatz, whose office I called last week, to encourage you to vote for this bill, you, sir, owe me a return phone call!

Or have your alleged constituents with a point of view on this war different from that of your own, become....expendable and irrelevant in the State of Hawaii?!?

Just checking, sir.

McMaster: US Troops Will Stay Until Syria Is Stabilized

Despite conceding that the US and others had effectively liberated “100%” of ISIS-held territory in Syria, National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster dismissed the idea that US forces might withdraw from the country any time soon.

“We have more work to do,” McMaster insisted, saying the US will stay “until ISIS is fully defeated, population centers are stabilized, and refugees can safely return home.” This vision of stability also appears to depend heavily on imposing a regime change in Syria.

Underscoring the focus on regime change, McMaster demanded that “all civilized nations” come together to punish both Russia and Iran for backing the Syrian government. He warned Assad would not have impunity, and neither would Russia or Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation of McMasterese: the US is going to "neutralize" Syria before it tackles regime change in Tehran, even if that potentially means war with Russia.

Syrian army captures key rebel stronghold in Eastern Ghouta as 12,500 civilians evacuate

The Syrian army captured the Hamouriyeh district in the capital Damascus' Eastern Ghouta countryside after the withdrawal of the Failaq al-Rahman rebel group as 12,500 people evacuated that area on Thursday, a monitor group reported.

The Syrian government forces have started deploying in Hamouriyeh and set up their positions in that area amid an ongoing evacuation process of civilians from that area, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

This comes amid heavy shelling from the government side on the remaining posts of Failaq al-Rahman in the towns of Jisreen, Zamalka, Kafar Batna and Saqba, said the London-based watchdog group.

The observatory added that 12,500 civilians have left the areas of Failaq al-Rahman rebels through Hamouriyeh on Thursday, marking the largest wave of evacuation from civilians since the Russian-backed humanitarian pause for the civilian evacuation started two weeks ago.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Syria, with Russia's help, is winning this on the ground, and the Western/US jihadis are being expunged.

This is why you can most probably expect to see yet another chemical attack against civilians, to be blamed on the Syrians and Russia, as the US pretext for going in, full bore, and invading the country.

This means that we will most likely wind up in a shooting war with Russia in Syria, and it may well be a war that the US military cannot win; they don't have the weaponry; the troop strength; the manufacturing, or the money to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war against Russia in Syria.

Putin ‘extremely concerned’ over UK’s ‘destructive, provocative’ stance in Skripal case – Kremlin

In his first public reaction to the UK measures against Russia in ex-spy Sergei Skripal’s poisoning, President Vladimir Putin said he was “extremely concerned” by the “destructive and provocative” stance of the UK.
A “detailed discussion” of the current crisis in Russian-UK relations was held when Putin met with top officials from the Russian government, military and security services on Thursday, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said. “Extreme concern was expressed about the destructive and provocative stance taken by the British side,” the spokesman added.

It was Putin’s first public reaction since the UK announced steps against Moscow on Wednesday. Accusing Russia of using a chemical weapon on British soil, Prime Minister Theresa May said the UK was expelling 23 diplomats, limiting ties and freezing Russian state assets.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This attempted poisoning certainly does not have what I would characterize as a "Putin signature" on it.

Why would he order it done, and so sloppily that it hit over 20 people more than the intended victims, Skripal and his daughter?!?

What in heaven's name would he - or Russia - have gained by it, when the damage Skripal inflicted on the Russian intel infrastructure happened years ago?!?

The short answer is, nothing.

But we have a very embattled British Prime Minister, perhaps, intending to deflect some very real British rage and frustration about how she is handling the Brexit issue with the EU; perhaps she thought that blaming and shaming the Russian government for something it may well not have done was "just the ticket".

And what is that old phrase of Rom Emanuel's "Never let a good crisis go to waste"?!?

There are a large number of people who might have wanted to see Skripal dead.

We don't know enough about what really happened to lay the foundation for an evidence chain yet; that may only come about when Skripal and his daughter are conscious enough to give investigators a timeline about when they became ill, and what they noticed right before that happened.

But the dismissal of diplomats, coupled with sanctions, can be a very nasty prelude to a potential shooting war with Russia, which would be the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing in the world for the west to do right now, for innumerable reasons.

I am hoping Nato Secretary General Stoltenberg's refusal to "drink the Koolaid" on this issue yesterday, by NOT invocing Article 5 of the UN Charter, as May begged him to do yesterday, will through heaping amounts of ice-cold water over this whole "Russia did it" thing.

The Neocon Full Court Press For War Is Here

The events of the past two weeks have been stunning. Since Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled new ‘doomsday’ weapon systems at his State of the Union address, the West has gone completely bonkers.

In the words of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, “I simply don’t have any normal terms left to describe all this,”

With the U.K. expelling Russian diplomats over the poisoning of former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury last week, the push to isolate Russia and create conditions for a World War is here.

The questions are Who is behind this? And Why?

Theresa May’s response is a joke. This is a woman who can’t stand up to EU shakedown artists over the mildest of disagreements in Brexit talks but can grandstand to high heaven over an incident with no evidence of Russian action.

Chinese Jets Drill at High Altitude Near Western Border After Engine Upgrades

Recent footage of People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) jets flying in western China have caused Chinese military analysts to asses that the country is increasing its military presence near the border with India, and that the country has overcome some technical hurdles to become a more effective mountain combat force.

Xian JH-7 fighter-bombers, Chengdu J-10 multirole fighters and J-11 air superiority fighters flew at high altitudes above snow-capped mountains, signaling that the aircraft were conducting exercises over southwestern China, the South China Morning Post reported Thursday. The video was released by the PLAAF Monday.

US Pacific Command ‘Fully Supports’ Arming India With F-35s

In welcome news for Lockheed Martin and its shareholders, a high-ranking US military official has said the US armed forces support selling the F-35 aircraft to India, a country that has not yet agreed to pay for the expensive jets.

While the extent of New Delhi's interest in acquiring Lockheed Martin's stealthy aircraft is not yet clear, the head of US Pacific Command (US PACOM) nonetheless supports the sale in theory, which is one of the more important preliminary steps for a deal actually happening.

"At the moment, India is considering a number of US systems for purchase, all of which US PACOM fully supports." The systems include F-16s, F/A-18s and MH-60 Seahawks, "and [the] F-35 Joint Strike Fighter," Admiral Harry Harris told the US House Armed Services Committee last month.

As Trump Moves Toward War, "The Resistance" Refuses To Resist

Tuesday’s post, It’s Impossible to Overstate How Terrible Mike Pompeo Is, laid out the view that Trump’s firing of Rex Tillerson represents a major shift toward war footing for the Trump administration, with Iran the specific target. This pivot was easily predictable, and I wrote numerous articles doing just that during 2017. Nevertheless, forecasting it and then seeing the disastrous pieces being moved into place are two different things.

Trump’s push to install Mike Pompeo as U.S. Secretary of State is a crystal clear indication that he’s begun the process of building his war cabinet. The next steps, likely to begin over the course of 2018, is to walk away from the Iran deal. I suspect relentless war propaganda to be unleashed simultaneously as the neocon/neoliberal/mass media war-monger alliance plays its well established role in selling the American public on another pointless and destructive war.

Queen Elizabeth II Has A WW3 Speech Written And It's Ready To Deliver

The Queen of England has a pre-written speech prepared for the outbreak of World War 3. As tensions between Russia and the United Kingdom continue to flare, the Queen’s speech is sparking fears of a nuclear war.

An Austrailian news source, News.Com.Au, reported that some people already fear a nuclear war is more likely that during the Cold War era. The speech was prepared for her back in the 1980s. It was originally revealed in 2013, but no one paid much attention until now. The address was written in the event nuclear war does occur, and she needs to address the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.

Nation Trying to Figure out Gun Violence to Hold Military Parade Glorifying War

Every time a mass shooting rocks the United States, Americans demand their government do something. Whether it’s confiscating guns, arming teachers, or turning schools into prisons, neither politicians or the public can agree upon a solution to the ongoing violence, but they know their government should act.

With last month’s Valentine’s Day shooting in Parkland, Florida, most Americans are consumed with outrage targeted at guns, and conversely, those who want to ban guns. They have largely forgotten about the massive celebration of gun violence — and worse — that their president is planning one in the capital city for later this year.

US Navy: Floating US Military Base in Arctic Accompained by 3 Nuclear Submarines

Two American and one UK submarines on a military exercise in the Arctic are being supported by a temporary base on a moving sheet of ice that includes a dining hall for 50 staff, a runway for fixed-wing aircraft and toilets designed to protect the region’s fragile ecosystem from the impact of human waste.

"The advantage of having a camp on the ice floe is to provide a stable platform to deploy a tracking range, sensors and test equipment for the exercise," Arctic Submarine Laboratory Director Larry Estrada said on Wednesday. "For this year's exercise, the Navy needed a large and very stable ice flow to support the tracking range and a fixed-wing runway,"the US Navy said in a press release.

Estrada explained the runway allows daily aircraft flights to maintain a logistics lifeline with Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.

Britain’s presumption of guilt towards Russia invites conflict and chaos

Britain’s abandonment of due process has taken a dangerous and reckless leap, with Theresa May declaring economic sanctions and diplomatic expulsions for Russia’s “failure” to respond to allegations over the Skripal poisoning.
Provocatively, Moscow was given a 24-hour deadline to “answer” charges leveled by the British government that it was responsible for the attempted murder of a Russian double agent, Sergei Skripal, who had been living in England since 2010 after a spy-swap deal.

Skripal (66) and his 33-year-old daughter Yulia were apparently stricken with a deadly nerve agent in his adopted hometown of Salisbury on March 4 while strolling through a public park. The pair have been receiving treatment in intensive care ever since.

Further Signs of More War: A Most Dangerous Game

Donald Trump’s days of playing the passive/aggressive host of a reality-television game show are coming to an end. Either he fires all the apprentices who might slightly hesitate to wage a much larger world war and lets the bombs fly, or he will be replaced by one who will. Signs are that he has learned what his job entails and the world will suffer more death and destruction as a result.

Back in the days of the first Cold War – the late 1950s to early 1960s when our little world came close to extinction – my very large family appeared on many American television shows. Their names told the story of those times: “Who Do You Trust,” “To Tell the Truth,” “Charades,” “Play Your Hunch,” and “Beat the Clock,” to name a few. It was as if those silly game shows were unconsciously suggesting we probe a little deeper behind the headlines to discover what was really going on before the Doomsday Clock ran out.

World War III Is Approaching

Of course, there has not been any chlorine gas use unless by the Washington-supplied mercenaries. But facts are not important to Washington. What is important to Washington is Israel’s demand that Washington destroy Syria and Iran in order to get rid of Hezbollah’s supporters so that Israel can seize southern Lebanon.

No doubt that other interests are in on the plot. Oil companies that want to control the location of oil and gas pipelines, the crazed neocons married to their ideology of American World Hegemony, the military/security complex that needs enemies and conflicts to justify its massive budget. But it is Israel’s determination to expand its boundaries and water resources that set all of the Middle East conflict in motion.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I fear that Paul Craig Robert's "Curse of Cassandra Logic", (the prophetess, in classical Greek mythology, who always got her visions right, but was constantly being ignored by the very people those visions were supposed to help) is right on target here.

There is a certain aura of inevitability about how this is shaping up, and I suspect that it will be a question of when, not if, the US and Russia lock horns over Syria.

I also fear that the outcome of such a conflict may not go well for this country.

NEWS/GAZA White House summit on Gaza aims to 'end Palestinian cause'

As the White House prepares to hold a conference aimed at resolving the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, Palestinians in the besieged enclave say the summit is an attempt at erasing the Palestinian cause and turning it into "an aid project".

Palestinian representatives, who declined the White House's invitation to attend, were absent at the conference happening on Tuesday in Washington, DC.

However, representatives from some 20 countries are among the attendees who will discuss Gaza's health challenges, its chronic contaminated water and electricity problem, as well as poverty and food security.

Countries and international bodies who attended the conference include Bahrain, Egypt, the European Union, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the United Nations, Japan, Cyprus, Canada and Israel.

The United States was expected to unveil several proposals that tackle some of these issues.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am sorry, but without any Palestinian representatives whatsoever, this conference is merely "sound and fury, signifying nothing",and is merely attempting to wallpaper over the horrific treatment of the Palestinians by the Israeli government.

But then, what can one expect of a wretchedly apartheid, self-declared theocracy with nuclear weapons, and its enablers, the US government now being the worst of the lot?!?

Mattis: US Seeking Victory in Afghanistan, Just ‘Not a Military Victory’

Defense Secretary James Mattis made a surprise visit to Afghanistan on Tuesday, arriving at the Kabul Airport with little fanfare before offering rare public comments on the Afghan War. Mattis focused on what ‘victory’ would look like, and offered a glimpse into US strategy for achieving it.

Mattis confirmed in his comments that any victory in Afghanistan would be “not a military victory.” Rather, he sees victory coming in the form of political reconciliation. That’s not going to involve major peace talks, however, as Mattis called that “a bridge too far,” reflecting Trump’s opposition to such talks with the Taliban.

Instead, Mattis suggested that the strategy would mirror something that’s been tried repeatedly in Afghanistan, “peeling away” some Taliban factions by drawing them into talks. Mattis said the US has seen “interest” in such talks.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sec Def Mattis.... a word, please.

Continuing to attempt to do something entirely the same way as one has been doing it before, yet expecting a different outcome, is a classical definition of insanity.

The US government continues to do this in Afghanistan for two, very obvious, reasons; first, to demonstrate that it hasn't lost this war, 16 years on, and secondly, for US alphabet soup agencies to benefit from the huge amount of money which is made through the opium/heroin business, which is booming under US/NATO occupation.

Drug War? American Troops Are Protecting Afghan Opium. U.S. Occupation Leads to All-Time High Heroin Production

Sir, thinking Americans, and the world, know, that this is the truth here.

There is utterly no military metric by which the US/NATO occupation can be adjudged to have "won" this war.

The most intelligent thing the US government could possibly do at this point in time, is withdraw troops as quickly as safely possible, then negotiate with whatever government is left standing in Kabul, for the oil pipeline rights, and the involvement in opium production rights.

Of course...THAT... would be logical.

Sir, as politely as I can say this, our country does not need one more American military person crucified, and killed, upon the cross of an insane US foreign policy which ignores both logic, and the best thing for our American, and NATO'S military, and ultimately, for the Afghani people.

Russia Destroyed Stocks of Nerve Agent UK Claimed Was Used to Kill Ex-Spy - MP

- Russia not only stopped the production of the Novichok nerve agent, but also destroyed all its reserves, as confirmed by international observers of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), security services veteran, Russian upper house lawmaker Igor Morozov told Sputnik on Tuesday.

"Russia has not only stopped the production of nerve agents, including Novichok, but also completely destroyed all their reserves. This was done in accordance with international agreements under the control of OPCW international observers," Morozov said.

The statement comes after UK Prime Minister Theresa May said on Monday that Russia was "highly likely" responsible for suspected poisoning of former officer of Russia’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) Sergei Skripal in the UK, adding that the substance, used in the poisoning, was identified as a military-grade nerve agent of the so-called Novichok group developed in Russia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF, in fact, this article is true, then the UK's accusation against Russia for the attempted assassination of Skirpal, is beginning to fall apart at the seams, if a thorough documentation exists on such a destruction of this nerve agent exists.

So one has to ask; cui bono, who benefits from such an attempt?!?

It sure as heck is not Russia; I am still reserving judgement here, as I am beginning to see this as yet another demonisation of Russia, engineered to "play to the rafters" in the UK and beyond, and give people incapable of logical, critical thought, an alleged "justification" for more nasty steps against it.

Britain will expel 23 Russian diplomats in response to a nerve toxin attack on a Russian former double agent in southern England, Prime Minister Theresa May said on Wednesday, adding it was the biggest single expulsion in over 30 years.

May said Britain would also introduce new measures to strengthen defenses against hostile state activities, freeze Russian state assets wherever there was evidence of a threat and downgrade its attendance at the soccer World Cup in Russia this summer.

Russia, which has repeatedly denied any involvement in the nerve agent attack, said Britain should expect retaliation for its actions.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This kind of act is generally a prelude to war; a war Britain is ill-equipped to fight, even with US military assistance.

Remember; there were a number of individuals who would have wanted to see Skirpal dead, and not all of them were necessarily Russian.

Trump Thinks a Militarized ‘Space Force’ Is a ‘Great Idea’

During a speech delivered at San Diego’s Marine Corps Air Station Miramar on Tuesday, President Donald Trump said he was interested in establishing a “Space Force” to protect American military interests in outer space.

“My new strategy for space recognizes that space is a warfighting domain, just like the land, air, and sea,” Trump said. “You know I was saying it the other day, because we are doing a tremendous amount of work in space. I said, ‘maybe we need a new force, we can call it the Space Force,’ and I was not really serious, and then I said, ‘what a great idea, maybe we’ll have to do that. That could happen. That could be the big breaking story.’”

Webmaster's Commentary:

To SOMEONE in President Trump's Administration who has his ear: please remind him that such a move will break innumerable treaties to which the US is a signatory, about not weaponising, but exploring, space.

UN: US Attack On Syrian Civilians Violated International Law

Last week, war crimes investigators at the United Nations charged a U.S.-led coalition with violating international humanitarian law last year when it launched airstrikes on a school in Syria that killed at least 150 civilians.

The war crimes investigators reported that internally displaced families had been sheltering in the school since 2012. The investigators said that U.S.-led coalition forces failed to take proper precautions to avoid the loss of civilian life during the attack, which took place in al-Mansoura, near Raqqa.

The investigators disputed the claims of high-level U.S. military officials that 30 Islamic State (ISIS or IS) fighters had been targeted and killed in the attack.

Russia says U.S. plans to strike Damascus, pledges military response

Russia said on Tuesday it had information that the United States planned to bomb the government quarter in Damascus on an invented pretext, and said it would respond militarily if it felt Russian lives were threatened by such an attack.

Valery Gerasimov, head of Russia’s General Staff, said Moscow had information that rebels in the enclave of eastern Ghouta were planning to fake a chemical weapons attack against civilians and blame it on the Syrian army.

He said the United States intended to use the fake attack as a pretext to bomb the government quarter in nearby Damascus where he said Russian military advisers, Russian military police and Russian ceasefire monitors were based.

“In the event of a threat to the lives of our servicemen, Russia’s armed forces will take retaliatory measures against the missiles and launchers used,” Gerasimov said in a statement.

This Is No ‘Cold War’; It’s Far Worse Than That.

During the Cold War, the two sides agreed that any war between the capitalist side and the communist side would escalate to nuclear war between the U.S. and the USSR and constitute Mutually Assured Destruction (M.A.D.). Therefore, because of this mutual acceptance of M.A.D., hot war didn’t develop during that entire period, from 1945 till the Soviet Union dissolved and ended its military alliance the Warsaw Pact, both of which ended in 1991. Throughout that 45-year period, called “the Cold War,” there was no hot war between the two nuclear superpowers, because both sides believed that any hot war would end in M.A.D. — mutual annihilation, and the end of civilization.

Why The Super-Rich Are Rushing To Buy Nuclear-Proof Bunkers

The rush amongst the super-rich started after the key event of 2014; this single stunning event suddenly sparked that rush by the super-rich to buy nuclear-proof bunkers, and the rush has been nonstop since that event. Though many news-media in The West have reported on the existence of this suddenly booming market for luxurious and supposedly nuclear-proof bunkers, none has reported on what actually caused it — the event that had sparked it. In fact, that event is still a secret in The West — not publicly mentioned here; it is, practically speaking, bannedfrom being publicly even mentioned, in The West.

“No Russia – No World!” – FULL MOVIE: WORLD ORDER 2018

“World Order 2018” is a new documentary movie by TV host, Vladimir Soloviev, in which he discusses with Russia’s President Putin all the major events of the past few years; the Syrian situation, the destruction of the Middle East, the expansion of NATO, the immigration crisis in Europe, the destabilisation of Eastern Ukraine and the situation in Crimea, US-Russian relations, and of course the nuclear arms race. They also touch on topics rarely answered by world leaders – the eradication of national identities, the re-writing of history, and the essence of the Holocaust.

The War In Donbass In Context: The Bigger Picture Of US Insanity

The war in Donbass has become one of the central links in the geopolitical tug-of-war between the main driving force of multipolarity – the Russian Federation – and the declining American superpower which, contrary to many analysts’ forecasts, has not – or has not been allowed to – discard its far-away “Project Ukraine” since Trump was elected.

Pompeo & Haspel: ‘Hardliners that will do as Trump says’

The newly appointed US Secretary of State and CIA Chief are hardliners who will obediently follow President Donald Trump’s course for an even more confrontational foreign policy, former CIA officials told RT.

The appointment of Mike Pompeo as the US Secretary of State and “hardliner” Gina Haspel, who was picked to be his replacement as the head of the CIA, “confirms that the administration is moving to the right; to a more confrontational and a more aggressive foreign policy,” Philip Giraldi, a former CIA intelligence officer, told RT.

Putin’s Missiles: Deterring an American Attack?

Putin’s March 1st presentation of new Russian weapons has been greatly misunderstood as a declaration of strategic parity or triumphalism. There was a much more urgent need, namely, to prevent an imminent strike. This danger is not over yet, for a week later, on March, 7, President Putin emphasised his readiness to employ the nuclear weapons for retaliation purposes, even if it would end the world.

The sharply raised stakes were a game-changer. Who knows what will be the Russian response on this or other action of the Western allies? The warlike neocons say Russia is all talk, all bluff. Realists say that the US may suffer the humiliating and painful loss of its CSGs with thousands of lives at sea. The US President had enjoyed the previous strike of Syria with dozens of Tomahawks before returning to his beautiful chocolate cake. If the strike were revisited upon the striking SCGs – this is totally different matter.

US Commander: ‘US Troops Prepared to Die for Israel’ in War Against Syria, Hezbollah

Such a war is likely to be ignited by the unrest destined to follow the U.S.’ imminent move of its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The move, set to take place in May, led Hamas to call for a third intifada, or uprising, in response to the U.S.’ unilateral decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in defiance of the international consensus.

Beyond the fact that Israel is preparing to go to war with several countries simultaneously is the fact that U.S. ground troops are now “prepared to die for the Jewish state,” according to U.S. Third Air Force Commander Lt. Gen. Richard Clark.

“We are ready to commit to the defense of Israel and anytime we get involved in a kinetic fight there is always the risk that there will be casualties. But we accept that, as in every conflict we train for and enter, there is always that possibility,” Clark told the Post.

Webmaster's Commentary:

'U.S. ground troops are now “prepared to die for the Jewish state,” according to U.S. Third Air Force Commander Lt. Gen. Richard Clark.'

Oh, really, General Clark?!?

I would seriously doubt that.

I would respectfully suggest that you ask your troops if this is, in fact, the honest truth as they see it.

And I will venture one relatively safe bet here; the Israeli government wants to see these wars go forward; but primarily at the costs of American blood and American money.

Hawaii declines requests for records on false missile alert

Hawaii officials have repeatedly pointed to a low-level state employee and a breakdown in his agency's leadership as the main cause for a January missile alert that left hundreds of thousands of islanders thinking they might die in a nuclear blast. But efforts to find out more about what other top officials did that day have been stymied at the highest levels of state government.

Hawaii law says opening the government to public scrutiny "is the only viable and reasonable method of protecting the public's interest."

But for nearly two months, Gov. David Ige's office has refused to provide information requested by The Associated Press that could show how he and other officials handled the crisis.

Citing open records law exemptions, Ige's office has declined to release phone logs, text messages, instant messages and calendars related to the missile alert, even as the state moves forward with recommendations to implement a new missile alert system .

Webmaster's Commentary:

Pure and utter codswallop, Governor Ige!!

The Hawaiian people don't believe it for a second, either; because of the massive corruption in this state's government, they have grown utterly cynical about any statement from most Hawaiian politicians.

And hey, Governor, talking about corruption and a hideous waste of taxpayers' money in this state, let's talk about about the "Light Rail to Nowhere", which is in a constant state of construction and repair, with roads so torn up in cities like Aiea, that it is nearly a death-defying experience for both a car's suspension, and human spines.

When is that forensic accounting of this project going to happen, demonstrating where the hell the money went, sir, andy why the horrific cost over-runs here?!?

The CIA’s new nominee director Gina Haspel once ran a torture site and destroyed evidence

As CIA director Mike Pompeo moves to become the United States’ secretary of state, deputy director Gina Haspel has been nominated to lead the agency. If confirmed by the Senate, she will become the first woman to run the CIA.

Haspel’s nomination will be controversial; she played a leading role (paywall) in running a US torture site abroad and later destroyed the evidence of it.

In 2002, she oversaw a secret prison in Thailand that tortured two terrorism suspects. That torture took place within the CIA’s “extraordinary rendition” program, in which suspected terrorists are sent to US allies, and interrogated in “black sites” on their soil.

One of the men, known as Abu Zubayda, was waterboarded 83 times in one month and was slammed into walls by the head. He was deprived of sleep and kept in a coffin-like box. Interrogators later decided he didn’t have any useful information.

Webmaster's Commentary:

My bet will be that her nomination will be accepted, because this is what the US government believes is needed right now in the head of the CIA; someone with unrestrained bloodlust, who, robotically and unfailingly, hates all the enemies of the American Deep State, without ever asking why they are enemies, and is absolutely fine with having them tortured and killed to appease her Warlord Masters.

US slams Russia at the UN and warns it will strike Syria again if airstrikes against civilians continue

UN Ambassador Nikki Haley slammed Russia for its support of Syria's Assad government, which she accuses of gaming the UN system to continue to kill civilians, possibly with chemical weapons.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday that France would launch attacks on any Syrian facilities used to launch chemical weapons attacks.
Haley ended her statement by saying that if the UN couldn't stop violence in Syria, then the US would act on its own.

The US Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, slammed Russia and laid down a heavy warning for the UN Security Council on Monday, saying that if the international community can't come together to stop the bloodshed in Syria, the US will.

Webmaster's Commentary:

How in the name of heaven can Ambassador Haley keep churlishly dumping these threats against Russia, when it is a documented reality that it is the rebels who have used, and are plannning again to use, these chemical weapons, not the Russians or Syrians?!?

Madam Ambassador, I would like to politely suggest to you that some Americans can still read; and worse for you, still have the capacity for critical thinking.

The world knows you are lying, to support and forward the agenda of US troops going into Syria, in order to partition it, and create regime change in Damascus.

This will put us head to head with Russia in Syria, and this is not a place thinking Americans want us to be.

Russia has just demonstrated the capabilities of their hypersonic planes, outfitted with maneuverable warheads.

Russia Successfully Launches New Kinzhal Hypersonic Missile

Do we seriously want to be messing with a country with these capabilities, when the US military and defense complex have found themselves behind the proverbial 8-ball of not having these capabilities?

I think that the short, logical answer is, HELL, no!!

But just because something is the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the US government could possibly do is, unfortunately, no guarantee that the US won't do it.

I would like to remind you of how "well" our military interventions are continuing to go in Libya, Niger, Somalia, Afghanistan, and Iraq, and other areas of the world where the US military is assisting in the expropriation of resources to which this country - and its corporate minions, have no moral right.

Newly Revealed Russian Weapons Systems: Political Implications

Right now, the AngloZionists are undergoing something very similar to the first two of the Five Stages of the Kübler-Ross Grief model: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance. Mostly this manifests itself in criticisms of the quality of the videos presented by Putin and by simple incantations about “these weapons only exist on paper”. This is absolutely normal and will not last too long. That kind of denial is a normal coping mechanism whose primary function is to “soften the blow”, but not something one can base any actual policy or strategy on. However, it is worth looking into why exactly these revelations triggered such a powerful reaction as things are a little more complicated than might first appear.

First, a stunning revelation of sorts: the deployment of these weapons systems does not fundamentally change the nuclear balance between Russia and the USA, at least not in terms of first strike stability (for a detailed discussion see here).

Lawrence Solomon: The Real Reason For Trump's Steel Tariffs? He's Preparing For War

President Trump’s decision to apply steep tariffs to steel imports on grounds of national security met with a loud chorus of protests at home and abroad, by many trying to divine what could possibly be going through Trump’s mind. Trump is an economic illiterate, he’s a protectionist, some reasoned; he’s targeting Canada to get concessions on NAFTA, he’s playing to his base, others pronounced.

These explanations miss the mark. Though Trump doubtless sees taunting Canada on NAFTA and playing to his political base as furthering his agenda, these are but freebies, sideshows to the main event. Trump is acting sincerely, and legitimately, in the national security interests of the United States. Canada isn’t his target; China is.

US quietly increasing air strikes on ISIL in Libya

The United States has stepped up air strikes against ISIL in Libya in recent months, concerned that the terrorist organisation is regrouping there after punishing defeats in Syria and Iraq.

From bases deep in the desert, ISIL continues to launch attacks, on Friday killing three members of the Libyan National Army at a checkpoint near the eastern town of Ajbabiya.

The threat from the insurgents has not gone unnoticed in Washington, where the head of the Pentagon's Africa Command, revealed earlier this week that there have been eight strikes against ISIL targets in central Libya since September, the first during President Donald Trump's administration.

"As terrorists flee from the Middle East because of our successful military efforts there, I'm concerned about other terrorist threats trying to establish operatives in Africa," Marine General Thomas Waldhauser told the House Armed Services Committee in the US capital.

Russia test-fires 'ideal' hypersonic missile

Russia said Sunday it successfully launched a hypersonic missile which President Vladimir Putin called "an ideal weapon" as he unveiled a new array of next-generation arms earlier this month.

The high-precision Kinzhal (Dagger) missile was launched from a MiG-31 supersonic interceptor jet that took off from an airfield in the South Military District in Russia's southwest, the defense ministry said.

"The launch went according to plan, the hypersonic missile hit its target," the ministry added.

The ministry released video footage showing two pilots gearing up for a flight and then running towards a jet with a large missile slung beneath its underbelly. Set to rousing, patriotic music, the video then shows a missile detaching from the airborne plane and gliding across the dark sky, leaving a fiery trail behind.

How much longer will US and partner forces ‘own the night’ in combat?

Filmed through the tinted green of night vision goggles, a February video by the Taliban depicts their assault on an Afghan security forces outpost in Kandahar province.

The use of NVGs by enemy fighters in situations like this appears to be growing, with reports from November indicating that the Taliban’s “Red Unit” used rifle-mounted lasers and night vision optics to quickly overrun multiple checkpoints and police bases.

This proliferation of night vision capability across the battlefield may be unstoppable in the long-run, and could change the way U.S. and partner forces fight.

GOP Senator Long Critical Of Yemen War Now Helping Trump Block Debate On It

Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.) spent much of 2017 urging greater accountability for the American role in the civil war in Yemen ? presenting himself as one of few GOP critics of the Trump administration’s policies and aligning with prominent critics of U.S.-backed Saudi-United Arab Emirates operations in Yemen, like Sen. Now he is trying to undercut the clearest shot war skeptics have of forcing the U.S. to change course.

Sadly, this is the legislation which will probably be voted into law; and I would strongly suspect that it is utterly no accident that this legislation has been introduced shortly after the "AIIPAC Convention came to DC.

Young just apparently got "turned" to support the Israeli notion of a US proxy war against Iran, staged from Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

And precisely what this legislation is engineered to do IS to create an outright proxy war with Iran, which may well lead to an actual, physical attack by the US against Tehran.

The Implications of Russia's New Weapon Systems

Vladimir Putin’s March 1st, 2018 address to Russia’s Federal Assembly was not about Russia’s upcoming presidential elections, as many in the election-obsessed West suggest. Putin’s speech was about coercing America’s elites into, if not peace, at least into some form of sanity, given that they are currently completely detached from the geopolitical, military and economic realities of a newly emerging world. As it was the case with Georgia in 2008, the coercion was based on military power. The Pre-Shoigu Russian Army, for all its real and perceived shortcomings, disposed of the US-trained and partially equipped Georgian force in a matter of five days—the Russian Army’s technology, personnel and operational art was simply better. Obviously such a scenario is not possible between Russia and the United States; that is unless the American myth of technological superiority is blown out of the

Army document: US strategy to ‘dethrone’ Putin for oil pipelines might provoke WW3

A study by the US Army’s Command and General Staff College Press of the Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth reveals that US strategy toward Russia has been heavily motivated by the goal of dominating Central Asian oil and gas resources, and associated pipeline routes.

The remarkable document, prepared by the US Army’s Culture, Regional Expertise and Language Management Office (CRELMO), concedes that expansionist NATO policies played a key role in provoking Russian militarism. It also contemplates how current US and Russian antagonisms could spark a global nuclear conflict between the two superpowers.

You may not know it yet, but the world changed on March 1st, 2018, an old era was ended, and a new era begun. In very great part, the meaning of this new era is up to you.

On that historic day, Vladimir Putin revealed to the world that the US military is now obsolete, and no longer capable of "projecting power", committing war crimes, or intimidating and destroying smaller nations around the world. That day has ended forever, one way or another. But the days of your government threatening and destroying other countries is over. I hope you understand this.

Russia launches serial production of the Z-500 rocket system

RUSSIA started production of the Z-500 rocket system Prometheus, which is also known as 55R6M "Trijumfator-M".

S-400 missile systems around the world were stepping over the S-300, and the S-500 is a new step.

According to the military top in Moscow, this system has a range of up to 600 kilometers, intercepts and destroys medium-range missiles of the warhead of intercontinental ballistic missiles in their final phase of the flight.

At the same time it can target up to 20 different goals.

Russian rocket specialists have already secured the S-300, S-400 and S-500 interconnections that work in a certain zone, with the division of roles among these systems. And, they believe that the zones under their protection will be under the severely punctured "umbrella".

US Pouring Weapons Into War-Torn Yemen

Three years into the 2015 Saudi-led invasion of Yemen, untold thousands are dead. Northern Yemen has been through the worst cholera outbreak in human history, and civilians continue to die in bunches from Saudi airstrikes against the region.

To call Yemen war-torn is really putting it mildly. Yemen is in a disastrous state, with a Saudi-led naval blockade threatening to starve millions. If there’s one thing Yemen has no shortage of, however, it’s weapons, with the US ensuring a massive supply continues to pour into the hands of Saudi and Emirati forces.

US arms sales are themselves at a record high during this war, in no small part because of purchases by the United Arab Emirates, and particularly by the Saudis, who are dropping US bombs on northern Yemen as fast as they can buy them.

Marine Corps Commandant: 'Less Than 30% of Young Men and Women' Qualified to Join Military

The United States Marine Corps Commandant told Congress on Wednesday that recruitment is "hard work," because so few people are qualified to fill the ranks.

But while recruitment is difficult, "This is a really good Marine Corps," General Robert B. Neller told the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense:

"So, I think we're all aware that, you know, in the nation, I mean, it's a strategic issue that less than 30 percent of the young men and women of our nation are qualified just to join the military, either because of physical, mental or moral issues. So now we're down to 30 percent and now we have to find those that have a propensity or are interested in doing this.

Upgrades, Development to F-35 Jet Will Cost $1 Billion Per Year

Will it cost $1 billion or more just to update the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter every year?

That's the estimate from the F-35's Joint Program Office.

During a House Armed Services tactical air and land forces subcommittee hearing Wednesday, lawmakers were apprehensive about the strategy known as continuous capability development and delivery, or C2D2.

This strategy aims to do smaller, incremental updates instead of taking F-35s off the flightline to get months' worth of larger, packaged software and modernization upgrades needed to "keep up with the latest threats."

US Special Operators Want a Super Vehicle They Can Disguise As Different Civilian Trucks

To give special operators’ a better option when they need to move around discreetly in foreign locales, U.S. Special Operations Command has purchased hundreds of modified commercial pickups and sport utility vehicles over the years. But with multiple different types from different manufacturers in service, this fleet has become increasingly complicated and expensive to maintain and now the command wants new, standardized vehicles that have a James Bond-esque ability to imitate to looks and sounds of the existing trucks.

Marines arrive in Israel

Nearly 2,500 Marines landed in Israel on Tuesday as part of a biennial military exercise known as Juniper Cobra.

The Marines, deployed with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the amphibious assault ship Iwo Jima, will train with Israeli Defense Forces, as the IDF carries out a series of ballistic missile drills. However, Marines will not directly participate in the missile drills, according to a command release.

“Our focus during Juniper Cobra 18 will be to hone our warfighting skills and ensure we are ready to react to any contingency we might face in U.S. 6th Fleet,” Col. Farrell J. Sullivan, the 26th MEU commanding officer, said in a command release.

Congress grills Marines over M27

Marine commanders were grilled by members of Congress on Tuesday over their decision to seek a single-source contract from a foreign company to procure the M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle, or IAR.

The Corps is seeking to procure nearly 15,000 Heckler & Koch M27 rifles to field to the infantry. But the nearly $3,000 automatic rifle is being sourced to a German company, an issue raised by members of Congress at a House Armed Services Committee meeting on readiness late Tuesday.

“Do you believe that it is the best option to not compete a contract that could be as many as 50,814 rifles?” Congressman Joe Wilson, the Republican chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, asked Marine commanders at the hearing. “Do you believe the U.S. defense industrial base could support such a request?”

Roaring cannons: Massive US-led artillery drills kick off in Europe

The US Army has started a massive artillery exercise, involving thousands of troops from NATO nations as well as heavy howitzers, multiple launch rocket systems and mortars.

Some 3,700 troops from 26 NATO member states, including the US, the UK, France and Germany, have arrived at Grafenwoehr range (in Germany) along with their heavy weapons, according to US Army Europe’s (USAEUR) training command. The exercise Dynamic Front 18, which will last until March 10, has a stated goal to “develop the capabilities of US and allied fires units to operate side-by-side, from identifying targets at a multinational, theater-level command to tactical units.”
