A federal worker with Type 1 diabetes has been forced to ration her insulin due to the government shutdown as President Donald Trump shows no signs of backing down from his demand for $5.7billion to build a wall along the US-Mexico border.

Mallory Lorge, 31, is among 800,000 federal workers affected by the partial government shutdown, which has inflicted financial suffering as it enters its 24th day on Monday.

Lorge told NBC News that she only has two vials of insulin left, leaving her no choice but to ration them as she waits for the shutdown to end.

The Wisconsin resident, who works for the Department of Interior, said since being out of work, she can no longer afford to pay the $300 copay for her medication.

And just last week, she had a scare when her blood sugar rose to a high level.
