Obama's Russia Remarks at Final Presser Cement Legacy of Stupidity in Foreign Policy

"The Russians can't change us, or significantly weaken us. They are a smaller country, they are a weaker country, their economy doesn't produce anything that anyone wants to buy except oil and gas and arms. They don't innovate, but they can impact us if we lose track of who we are... They can impact us if we abandon our values. Mr. Putin can weaken us, just like he's trying to weaken Europe, if we start buying into notions that it's ok to intimidate the Press or lock up dissidents, or discriminate against people because of their faith or what they look like... And what I worry about, more than anything is the degree to which, because of the fearless of the bipartisan battle, you start to see certain folks in the republican party and republican voters, suddenly finding, a government and individuals who stand contrary to everything we stand for as being ok because that's how much we dislike democrats."

Commandos Without Borders: The US's Elite Troops Partner With African Forces But Pursue US Aims

Al-Qaeda doesn’t care about borders. Neither does the Islamic State or Boko Haram. Brigadier General Donald Bolduc thinks the same way.

“[T]errorists, criminals, and non-state actors aren’t bound by arbitrary borders,” the commander of Special Operations Command Africa (SOCAFRICA) told an interviewer early this fall. “That said, everything we do is not organized around recognizing traditional borders. In fact, our whole command philosophy is about enabling cross-border solutions, implementing multi-national, collective actions and empowering African partner nations to work across borders to solve problems using a regional approach.”

Russia reserves right to respond asymmetrically to US sanctions

Moscow reserves the right to choose the time, venue and form of counter-moves to US sanctions, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told Tass Tuesday in comments on the US’ expanding its sanction list against Russia. "We have repeatedly said and say once again that we all must be on alert," the diplomat said. "We don’t know what next hostile to us moves could be taken by the present US leadership. There has been no logic in their behavior since long and we have got accustomed to this generally speaking. We will be expanding our lists, we will see how we can respond asymmetrically. We reserve the right to choose the timing, the venue and form of counter-moves the way that will suit us, and the way it will be relevant to our own priorities in the American direction".

Washington apparently wants to know if the Russians have created a digital reconnaissance camera that is better than its U.S. equivalents and has made amendments to the sanctions list in order to purchase the Russian technology. The information on the introduction of technical changes to the list of sanctions against Russia appeared on the Federal Register site on Dec. 14, with a series of OSDCAM4060 sensors used for aerial surveillance and aerial photography removed from the list. As RBTH reported on Dec. 15, a Washington official explained the decision by saying that the purchase of the equipment "will enable the U.S. to assess Russia’s compliance with the Open Skies Treaty better"...
