Neocons Call For War Against Iran In Syria After Israeli Strikes

The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) is a little known but highly influential hawkish think tank in Washington that has made a name for itself over the past few years by opposing the Iran nuclear deal and its subsequent (and current) efforts to derail it.

Aside from its long tradition of opposing negotiations with Iran, FDD has also been known as a safe space for its staff—chief among them CEO Mark Dubowitz—to call for war against Iran and/or regime change.

And for some reason, FDD really doesn’t like it when it gets called out on it.

In a piece in the Weekly Standard last December, Dubowitz and FDD Senior Fellow Reuel Marc Gerecht complained about being painted as warmongers for their opposition to the Iran deal. And Dubowitz himself regularly grumbles about this on Twitter, calling for a move away from what he calls “personal attacks” to instead focus on “honest discussion.”

But sometimes a hawk just can’t hide his thirst for war.

Is John Brennan the Mastermind Behind Russiagate?

What role did Obama play? What about the Intelligence Community Assessment? Was it based on the contents of the Steele report? Will the “hand-picked” analysts who worked on the report vouch for its conclusions in or were they coached about what to write? How did Brennan persuade the reluctant Comey into opening a counterintelligence investigation on members in the Trump campaign when he knew it would be perceived as a partisan attempt to sabotage the elections by giving Hillary an edge?

Soon the investigative crosshairs will settle on Brennan. He’d better have the right answers.

FLASHBACK - Hillary Clinton: “If I’m President, We Will Attack Iran… We Would be Able to Totally Obliterate Them.”

On July 3, 2015, presidential aspirant Hillary Clinton addressed a hand-picked audience at a Dartmouth College campaign event. She lied calling Iran an “existential threat to Israel… I hope we are able to get a deal next week that puts a lid on (its) nuclear weapons program.”

Even if we do get such a deal, we will still have major problems from Iran. They are the world’s chief sponsor of terrorism.

They use proxies like Hezbollah to sow discord and create insurgencies to destabilize governments. They are taking more and more control of a number of nations in the region and they pose an existential threat to Israel.

We…have to turn our attention to working with our partners to try to reign in and prevent this continuing Iranian aggressiveness.

Fact: US and Israeli intelligence both say Iran’s nuclear program has no military component. No evidence whatever suggests Tehran wants one. Plenty indicates otherwise.

ISIS backing Saudi Arabian FM verbally attacks Iran for actions in Middle East and Africa - VIDEO

Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir talked about what he wrongly believes is the destabilizing effects of Iran in the Middle East and with countries in Africa, during the Munich Security Conference on Sunday.

Underlining the tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran, Jubeir said, "We didn't attack Iran, Iran is the one attacking us."

He also emphasized his opinion that for Iran to be treated as a regular state, "It has to change its behavior and comport itself with international law."

The ludicrous claims made despite irrefutable evidence showing Saudi Arabia has provided support for numerous jihadist groups, including ISIS.

Iranian FM: "We will not hesitate to respond to any Israeli aggression against us"

Foreign Affairs Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif warned that Israel’s “invincibility” has “crumbled”, as he lambasted a speech given earlier by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the Munich Security Conference on Sunday.

Zarif talked in reference to the shooting down of an Israeli F-16 jet which had reportedly attacked an Iranian site in Syria.

"What has happened in the past several days, has been that the so-called invincibility has crumbled.”

“Israel uses aggression as a policy against its neighbors", he said.

Lavrov refuses to condemn either Israel or Iran as their rivalry intensifies

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday that Moscow refuses to be embroiled in Iranian-Israeli hostilities and rejects that Israel should not exist, while regional problems should not be blamed on Iran.

Lavrov said at the opening of the Valdai International Discussion Club’s conference titled "Russia in the Middle East: Playing on All Fields," that tensions between Iran and Israel exist because of history.

"We have stated many times that we won’t accept the statements that Israel, as a Zionist state, should be destroyed and wiped off the map. I believe this is an absolutely wrong way to advance one’s own interests," Lavrov said.

"By the same token, we oppose attempts to view any regional problem through the prism of fighting Iran," he noted.

Mueller: No Collusion Between Trump and Putin, But the Russia Card Is Bigger Than Ever

Sheer hypocrisy and crass dishonesty incarnate.

Now, a few days later—and thirteen indictments from one of Mueller’s grand juries, announced by the very same Rosenstein, specifically against more “Russian players” who reportedly “meddled” in the 2016 American elections, but without any connivance by the Trump campaign—and Rosenstein is feted as a veritable savior of the republic by those same commenters. Those Neocons who now selectively support the president and those bitterly anti-Russian Fox pundits (with the possible exception of Tucker Carlson) are absolutely giddy with delight! For too long, in their defense of President Trump against the charge of collusion, they had found themselves in the extremely uncomfortable situation (for them) of having to mount an attempt to exculpate the Russians, or at least lessen their culpability.

Mapped: The 7 Governments the U.S. Has Overthrown

The era of CIA-supported coups dawned in dramatic fashion: An American general flies to Iran and meets with “old friends”; days later, the Shah orders Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh to step down. When the Iranian military hesitates, millions of dollars are funneled into Tehran to buy off Mossadegh’s supporters and finance street protests. The military, recognizing that the balance of power has shifted, seizes the prime minister, who will live the rest of his life under house arrest. It was, as one CIA history puts it, “an American operation from beginning to end,” and one of many U.S.-backed coups to take place around the world during the second half of the 20th century.

World Watches as All-Out War Between Israel and Iran Inches Closer

Over the weekend, Israel used the long-standing adversarial threat of Iran as a pretext to launch a barrage of attacks against targets in Syrian territory. According to the Israeli side, an Iranian drone launched from Syria flew deep into Israeli airspace, which prompted Israel to not only down the drone, but to also target the base the drone was allegedly launched from in Syria.

In turn, Syria activated its air defenses, which saw Israel lose one of its fighter jets soon after. Unhappy with this result, Israel launched a number of retaliatory strikes against Syria’s air defenses, including bases allegedly staffed with Iranian personnel as opposed to Iran’s mere proxy forces.

Israel claimed it successfully destroyed half of Syria’s air defenses, and because this is allegedly the first time Israel has actually struck Iranian targets as opposed to Iranian proxies, the weekend’s developments undoubtedly represent an escalation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Remember, you paid for Israel's ability to wage war on its neighbors.

US calls on Iran to withdraw from Syria

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson yesterday called on Iran to withdraw its troops and allied militia from Syria.

“We are quite concerned about the recent incident involving Israel and Iranian assets inside of Syria. And I think this again illustrates why Iran’s presence in Syria is only destabilising to the region,” Tillerson said during a press conference in Amman.

He added that the United States has a sophisticated plan for peace in the Middle East, which has been under development for several months and is now in advanced stages.

Remarking on the US official’s statement, Ali Akbar Velayati, chief adviser to Iran’s spiritual leader Ali Khamenei, said: “Iran’s presence in Syria is legitimate, and it is the United States that should leave.”

Putting annexation row behind them, Netanyahu, Trump set March meet

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet with US President Donald Trump next month when he visits Washington for the annual AIPAC confab, a White House official said Wednesday.

The meeting will come after the White House shot down Netanyahu’s assertion Monday that the US and Israel were discussing proposals for Israel to annex West Bank settlements, marking an unprecedented rebuke of the prime minister by the Trump administration.

The AIPAC conference, an annual gathering of pro-Israel figures, is scheduled from March 4-6 in Washington.

An official told Israel’s Hadashot news that the annexation kerfuffle “is already water under the bridge and has no consequence to our relationship with Netanyahu.”

Netanyahu’s comment Monday was made at a faction meeting of his right-wing Likud party, whose top body unanimously passed a resolution in December urging its leaders to formally annex parts of the West Bank and allow unlimited construction in the settlements.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Every time an Israeli Prime Minister makes the pilgrimage to DC, I get somewhat nervous; but this particular meeting between President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu, has me literally close to an industrial-strength panic attack.

And why?!?

First, because Netanyahu may be charged with corruption charges, which makes him a politically wounded animal; and the "human animal" is at their most dangerous when they are politically wounded.

The same holds true for Netanyahu; and that will probably escalate the timetable for more attacks on Syria; Lebanon, and perhaps Iran.

Secondly, it is at these kinds of meetings where the President "signs off" on just how much mayhem he or she would "greenlight" for Israel in their next phase of grabbing more territory to itself.

This meeting comes in about 3 weeks; and these two have a very tight friendship.

But I very strongly caution the President about making any moves to greenlight any actions against Iran, or commiting to US troops to fighting in order to accomplish regime change in Tehran.

Tel Aviv wants to see this happen; however, primarily at the costs of American blood, and American money.

We'll know what transpired between the two probably the middle of next month, courtesy of movements both in the air, and on the ground in the Middle East, in terms of military activity we see by either Israel and/or the US.

Animosity Toward US Brings Turkey, Russia, and Iran Together for Summit on Syria

The leadership of Turkey, Iran, and Russia have all agreed to attend an upcoming summit in Istanbul on the topic of Syria, with the date for the meeting to be decided soon. Looming large over this is US relations.

Those three nations have met in the past on trying to get a peace process going in Syria, but right now the big issue on all their minds is increasing hostility from the US.

Turkey’s invasion of northern Syrian Kurdish territory has them facing potential conflict with US troops embedded in Manbij. The Pentagon has made clear their presence in Syria is at least in part intended now to fight Iran, and over the past week, US forces killed scores of Russians in the east.

These three nations weren’t seemingly all seeing eye-to-eye on Syria, but the acrimony with the US risks being a major unifier for them, with countering the US agenda in Syria likely a top priority for all.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The invasion of Syria by the US military demonstrates just how lousy US foreign policy, seemingly driven by wanting a "revenge death match" against both Al Assad and Putin, for kicking out US-backed jihadists in Syria, is now going from bad to unimaginably worse.

My sense is that the refusal of the US military to get its troops out of Manbij, where they are embedded with Kurdish fighting forces, is going to translate into a situation where these troops will become the US government's "sacrificial lambs" with which to justify further incursions into Syria, and direct military conflict with Russia, and potentially against Turkish troops in Syria as well.

NATO members met yesterday and today, in a series of meetings chaired by NATO Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg.

NATO meeting held 14-15 February, in Brussels.

I am sure that Turkey - and its invasion of Syria - is very much on their minds.

Will NATO ultimately vote to intervene in Syria militarily, should the US ask it to?!?

Stranger things have happened.

POLICE RECOMMEND NETANYAHU BE INDICTED FOR BRIBERY ON TWO CHARGES

Israel Police recommended indicting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for bribery and breach of trust in two cases Tuesday night, Israel's Channel 2 and Channel 10 reported.

After a 14-month-long investigation, police announced on Tuesday that it found enough evidence to recommend the state’s prosecution to indict Netanyahu for bribery and breach of trust in Case 1000, the “gifts affair" and Case 2000, the "Yediot Aharanot Affair."

The prime minister, in the past, rejected both allegations claiming that "it is not illegal to accept gifts from friends" and that "Nothing will happen because nothing happened."

At this stage, the prosecution and Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit will examine the evidence that police collected throughout the investigations, and will later decide whether to actually indict the prime minister or not.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With these corruption charges against him, Prime Minister Netanyahu is about to become as geopolitcally dangerous as is a wounded animal.

Watch for these charges accelerate everything Netanyahu may be thinking about doing militarily in Syria; Iran; and Lebanon.

President Trump, just please be aware that this might be happening, and soon.

Israel squares off for showdown with Iran in Syria

A surge in Israeli-Syrian cross-border incidents has turned into the "biggest" confrontation between the two countries in decades and confronted Russia with a new dilemma: how to preserve its ties with both sides.

The tit-for-tat attacks, which started on Saturday and continued until the following day, have been accompanied by a war of words, with Benjamin Netanyahu warning that Israel would continue to strike against any aggression.

"We dealt severe blows to the Iranian and Syrian forces," Netanyahu said, referring to Iranian bases present inside Syria.

Israel strikes Syria but Iran is the target

As the dust begins to settle after a weekend in which Israel “defended” itself over another country’s sovereign territory, a region in dangerous flux is just that little bit more unstable.

Predictably, everyone claimed victory as yet another wave of airstrikes hit Syria. In reality, Israel – yet again – demonstrated its superior firepower, but has been given food for thought by the downing of one of its fighter planes, by Syrian government or Syrian government-allied forces. The Israeli air force will understand that the unchallenged impunity with which it has struck targets in Syria – acknowledged or not – for many years no longer quite holds.

The weekend also suggests Russia is now an essential arbiter in the region where nobody considers Syria’s borders anything other than lines on a map, and preparations for a war on Iran progress.

Israel "Preparing For War In North", Boosts Air Defenses; Warns Iran

One day after the most "significant escalation" in tensions between Israel and Syria/Iran, when an Israeli F-16 was shot down over the Golan Heights after it attacked a Syrian base which allegedly launched a drone into Israeli airspace, Israel appears to be "preparing for war in the North" according to the Jerusalem Post, which reports that the Jewish state has boosted its air defense in the region along the Syrian border following the "significant confrontation between the Jewish State, Syria and Iran."

Witnesses cited by JPost reported seeing a convoy of missile-defense batteries heading north near the Israeli-Arab city of Baka al-Gharbiya. Other witnesses posted photos of several trucks carrying the batteries on central highways in northern Israel.

Israel’s air defenses currently include the Iron Dome, designed to shoot down short-range rockets.

Israel warns over Iran's presence in Syria after air strikes

Israel issued stark warnings on Sunday over Iran's presence in neighbouring Syria after a confrontation threatened to open a new and unpredictable period in the country's seven-year civil war.

Israel carried out major air raids in Syria on Saturday, including against what it described as Iranian targets -- the first time it had publicly acknowledged doing so since the war began.

The raids came after an Israeli F16 fighter was shot down by Syrian air defences. The pilots survived, but it was Israel's first loss of a warplane in battle since 1982.

"We inflicted on Saturday a heavy blow to Iranian and Syrian forces," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the start of Sunday's cabinet meeting.

The Iranian game of chess: More moves are on the way

Op-ed: Iran and Israel have been fighting each other for years. It’s a cruel war, but one rule has been strictly observed: Avoiding an open, direct conflict. Iran has been attacking through proxies, while Israel has preferred covert activity. On Saturday, for the first time, this barrier was broken on both sides.

Russia in the Crosshairs

Eric Zuesse notes that only Syria and Russia complain about Washington’s illegal occupation of Syrian territory, an occupation that has no UN authorization and is a complete and total violation of international law, and Israel’s continual attacks on Syria.

Washington’s continuing support for war against the legitimate government of Syria and support for Israeli and terrorist attacks on Syrian and Russian forces are undermining Russia’s efforts to bring peace to the region. Zuesse also notes that Washington and its UK puppet block all UN action against Washington’s illegality.

Zuesse is correct. But is the continuation of Washington’s campaign against Syria and Russia largely the fault of Russia? Stephen Lendman makes a case that it is Russia’s fault.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would argue that Russia doesn't wish to get into direct military conflict with the US in Syria, because it understands that this could well generate more wars with the US, which for reasons I will articulate later, which the US and NATO appear to be gung-ho to fight, putting Russia in the position of being forced to fight both in Syria, and in Ukraine.

Putin is moving heaven and earth to avoid that happening, understanding full well that the current anti-Russian hysteria in Congress and beyond, may well be a prelude to the larger war he is trying to prevent.

Putin has a very real world understanding of just what a world war does to the people who fight it; the civilian populations enduring it and the bitter physical results to places which have been utterly destroyed by wars; and because he has a very clear understanding of what World War II did to his country, he does not want to see it repeated, not in Ukraine, Syria, or Iran.

Steve Lendman, whose work I greatly respect, and frequently link to, needs to understand the following; like a giant ant, the US government is "trapped in the amber" of an absolutely unrepayable debt load, toward which the current spending legislation is adding, big-time.

The US government desperately needs a war with which to attempt to "misdirect" the American people about the reasons why their standards of living have slipped horrendously, as US government debt grows, unchecked, and there are many in the "bowels of power" in DC, who believe that a good war will be just the ticket to get the US government out of its debtload, and back on its feet.

Israel, with its recent attacks on Syria, against Syrian and the (alleged) Iranian presence will hardly stop now. They will continue these attacks until someone strikes back, or, allegedly has struck back, courtesy of an Israeli/US generated false flag.

Sooner or later, the US military will be called upon by Israel for a general invasion of Syria, "to defend Israel's right to exist", and to affect regime change in Damascus; The optics here mean that Iran most probably will not let this stand, so we will see Iran join the fray as well, on Syria's side.

For Russia, it painfully clear that the breakaway former areas of Ukraine, and Ukraine itself, are preparing for another round of military conflict.
Monitors warn of Preparations for a Fresh Surge in Fighting in Ukraine

This is where NATO will most likely be assisting the Ukrainians militarily, to attempt to gain back some of their purpose and credibility, and the US has already sided with Ukraine should the conflict escalate. After all, President Trump has signed off on supplying Ukraine with anti-tank weapons.
US to send anti-tank missiles to Ukraine By now, those weapons should have been delivered to the Ukrainian military.

So we will, I believe, have Russia - and the US - fighting on several different fronts, with NATO fighting against Russia in Ukraine, assisted by the US; Syrian, Iran, and Russia, fighting the US and Israel in Syria (and possibly against Iran) in a major war there.

I would like to hope to hell that I am absolutely wrong on this assessment; however, current events, particularly the major strike by the Israel's IDF against Syria last week, compels me to conclude, at the moment, that this is how the geopolitics of the next great war are going to play out.

Israel ‘dealt heavy blow’ to Iran & Syria – Netanyahu

Israeli airstrikes against Iranian and Syrian targets have dealt a “serious blow” to Tehran and Damascus, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. Israel will continue to “strike back,” he added.

“Yesterday we dealt a serious blow to the armies of Iran and Syria,” the prime minister said, referring to the airstrikes conducted by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) against targets on Syrian territory on Saturday. “We will continue to strike back at any attempt to harm us,” he told ministers at his weekly cabinet meeting, as cited by Israeli media.

“We made it unequivocally clear to everyone that our rules of engagement have not changed in any way,” Netanyahu said. “This has been our policy and will remain our policy,” he added, apparently indicating that Tel Aviv does not intend to change its stance on Syria.

In a rare public expression of support for Israel by a radical Islamist figure in Syria, a former leader in al-Qaeda’s Syrian militia on Saturday welcomed Israeli airstrikes against Syrian and Iranian targets in the country after an Iranian drone infiltrated Israeli airspace, and called on the Jewish state to quickly “uproot” Iran from its northern neighbor.

Israel warns Iran after launching major raids in Syria

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu says his country will defend itself "against any attack" after carrying out what appear to be its largest strikes on sites in Syria in decades.

Israel launched raids against Iranian targets after saying it had intercepted an Iranian drone crossing the Syria-Israel border.

Iran denies the allegation.

During the offensive an Israeli F-16 fighter jet was shot down by Syria air defences, crashing in northern Israel.

Its pilots ejected from the plane and were taken to hospital.

Israeli warplane downed by Russian-made anti-aircraft missiles

IAF chief Tomer Bar reveals F-16 intercepted following strike in Syria was likely shot down by barrage of surface-to-air missiles, shot by Syrian armed forces and made, supplied by Russia; mission 'a complete operational success' despite downing, Bar stresses; stray missiles from the barrage may have reached Israel's Central District—missile trails spotted in region.

The Israeli Air Force's leading conjecture on the F-16 plane that was shot down by anti-aircraft fire on Saturday morning is that Syrian forces used a Russian made SA-5 Gammon medium-to-high altitude surface-to-air missile to intercept the Israeli aircraft.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation: the Israeli military doesn't know if it was a Russian SAM which shot down the Israeli F-16, but they will tar Russia for it anyway.

I would almost be willing to bet real money that this coming week, , the link between alleged "Syrian/ Iranian Agression" and Russia will be the mantra of the presstitutes in the corporate news.

THE OPEN WAR WITH IRAN HAS BEGUN

(Please be aware: this op-ed is how the Jpost is covering the events of yesterday. It takes outright lies and shapes them into propaganda, somewhat akin to what a magician does to create balloon animals, to advance their agenda of an open war against both Syria and Iran. ckr).

"This was long in the making. Years ago, the Iranians came to the rescue of Bashar Assad in Syria and, together with Russia, ensured his survival. The problem is that they haven’t left. On the contrary – even though Assad is today in control of the majority of Syria, Iran is staying put and trying to establish an even greater presence within the country. On Saturday, we saw how determined it is to do just that.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yesterday, Russia's President Putin warned Israel's Netanyahu that there needed to be "restraint" on the part of all parties here, and that the Israeli bombings should not be permitted to endanger Russia Troops on the Ground.

Putin urges Netanyahu to avoid escalation in Syria.

Yesterday, Netanyahu made the following statements:

Netanyahu Vows To Defend Israel Against Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he has spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the latest developments in the region.

Netanyahu says Saturday that he informed Putin of Israel's intention to continue defending itself against any aggression and to prevent Iran from establishing a presence "in Syria or anywhere else."

The questions come to mind: What precisely is Iran doing in Syria which causes Netanyahu to play the "self-defense" card, when it is essentially Israel which is the aggressor here?!?

When you invade a sovereign country, like Syria, and shoot bombs to destroy targets on the ground, is that not an act of war, rather than alleged "self-defence"?!?

By weasel-wording his language, (how Orwellian of Netanuahu, but he is sooo damned clever at this, as we have observed over the years), he is defining Israel aggression as acts of "defense"; and that, by international standards, should be indefensible.

Where is the incontrovertible proof, please?!?

But of course, neither Netnayahu, or the author of this codswallop, wants proof and truth; they want to escalate this into a full-blown regional war, until there is regime change in Damascus, and Tehran.

And of course, when it comes to actual blood and money to be spent on achieving those objectives, Tel Aviv thoroughly wants it to be American blood and American money spent; not Israeli.

Russian-Turkish axis in Syria faces meltdown

With suspicions running high that the nominal allies drew each other's blood on February 3, Ankara may well seek a modus vivendi with the US.

Two things differentiate the downing of a Russian Su-25 ground-attack jet in the western province of Idlib on February 3 from the drone attacks on the Russian air base at Hmeimim a month earlier.

Suffice to say, the air is thick with innuendos and dark hints that Russia and Turkey may have drawn each other’s blood on February 3, despite notionally being allies in Syria’s hybrid war.

Iranian Supreme Leader's top aide for international affairs Ali Akbar Velayati underlined that his country will help the Syrian people and their allies foil Washington's plots to disintegrate Syria and create a Kurdish state on the Eastern bank of the Euphrates.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran supports Syria's territorial integrity and doesn’t accept any aggression against the Syrian territories," Velayati told reporters in Tehran on Wednesday.

"The Americans want to disintegrate the Syrian territories and have done the preliminary moves to create and recognize an independent country in Eastern Euphrates in the Kurdish-populated region but certainly this will not be materialized," he added.

Velayati expressed confidence that Iran will help the Syrian people and their allies to prevent the US dreams come true, and said, "Certainly, we will defeat the Americans in this evil desire.">>>

Iran ‘Mass Producing’ Drones Strapped with Smart Bombs

Iran announced on Monday that it has begun mass-producing a new weaponized drone that carries smart bombs capable of precision strikes, according to the Islamic Republic's military leaders.

Iran, which has engaged in a massive military buildup since receiving billions of dollars in cash windfalls as a result of the landmark nuclear deal, says that these advanced new drones will be delivered to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps, or IRGC, which has been coordinating war efforts across the Middle East, including most controversially in Syria, where Iranian-backed forces have attacked U.S. troops.

The new drones, dubbed the Mohajer 6, are "equipped with the smart Qa'em precision-striking bombs and different electro-optical explorers and different warheads, [and] can trace, intercept and destroy the target," Iranian Defense Minister and Brigadier General Amir Hatami said on Monday during a speech celebrating the new weaponry.

Lebanon will be blown back to the ‘Stone Age,’ Minister Katz warns

Echoing messages conveyed to Iran and Hezbollah by the prime minister and IDF spokesperson, the transportation minister tells Ynet that ‘Israel has set a red line—it won’t allow Lebanon to become a factory for the production of precision-guided missiles for Iran’; Education Minister Bennett clarifies: ‘If missiles are fired from Lebanon, Nasrallah will become Lebanon’s destroyer.’

Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz on Sunday warned Hezbollah that Lebanon would go back to “the Stone Age” and maybe even to “the age of cavemen” if it turned into an Iranian factory of precision-guided weapons.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why does this Israeli accusation appear to have all the trappings (and "total lack of proof" look like President Bush's claim that "Iraq had weapons of Mass Destruction"?!?

The intelligent thing for Israel to have done (as a Member of the UN, as is Lebanon, and as is Iran), was to request the UN weapons agency, and the IAEA teams to reach an agreement to inspect Lebanon's alleged "Iranian Weapons factories" to see if these accusations hold water.

Of course, the Israeli government isn't using these threats as a means for creating a peaceful, reasoned resolution to their fears; these threats are simply a prelude to the coming war against Lebanon and Hezbollah.

But one really has to wonder; will the coming Israeli/Lebanon war about these alleged "Iranian weapons factories here, or about a disputed oil tender the Lebanese have put out over underseas natural gas deposits which Israel claims as its own?!? As reported a couple of days ago by newsweek.com:

Iran Terms Quds Everlasting Capital of Palestine

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyed Abbas Araqchi underlined that Jerusalem al-Quds will remain the Palestinians' capital forever, warning that Iran would confront any move made to the opposite. "Quds is the unchangeable capital of the Muslim world and Palestine," Araqchi said, addressing a forum in Tehran on Wednesday. He stressed Iran's permanent support for Beit al-Moqaddas (al-Quds) as Palestine's capital, and said, "We will confront any attempt to change this reality"... In relevant remarks earlier this month, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underlined that the US is overstepping its boundaries in recognizing al-Quds as Israel’s “capital" and planning to move its embassy there, saying such measures are in vain. US Redeploying ISIL to Afghanistan to Justify Continued Presence in Region

Chairman of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said Washington is transferring its proxy militants from Syria and Iraq to Afghanistan in a bid to justify its continued military build-up in the region. "Fomenting insecurity and disintegration of countries is the US strategic policy in the Muslim world, specially in confrontation against the Islamic Republic of Iran's neighbors," Boroujerdi said on Wednesday. He referred to the US attempts to hold an independence referendum in the Iraqi Kurdistan region as well as its efforts to form a new army of militants in Northern Syria to provoke the Kurdish population of the country, and said, "After the failure of the ISIL terrorists, the US is now plotting to transfer the ISIL to Afghanistan and organize them." He added that Iran intends to increase exports of the precious product to other countries.

How Regional Rivalries Threaten to Fuel the Fire in Syria and Iran

Turkish allegations of Saudi, Emirati and Egyptian support for the outlawed Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) threaten to turn Turkey’s military offensive against Syrian Kurds aligned with the PKK into a regional imbroglio.

The threat is magnified by Iranian assertions that low intensity warfare is heating up in areas of the Islamic republic populated by ethnic minorities, including the Kurds in the northwest and the Baloch on the border with Pakistan.

Taken together, the two developments raise the spectre of a potentially debilitating escalation of the rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran as well as an aggravation of the eight-month-old Gulf crisis that has pitted Saudi Arabia and its allies against Qatar, which has forged close ties to Turkey.

The United Arab Emirates and Egypt rather than Saudi Arabia have taken the lead in criticizing Turkey’s incursion into Syria designed to remove US-backed Kurds from the countries’ border and create a 30-kilometre deep buffer zone.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With Turkey demanding that US troops get out of Manbij ...or else, while the US government has declared it is not leaving,US General Votel says that US forces will not leave this could get very dicey, very quickly.

I have a very serious concern that those service members, embedded with the Kurds in Manbij, may be pawns, and it is not impossible that they are being used very cynically by this administration.

And I say that, because the minute US service members get killed by Turkish fire, the narrative may well immediately be ordered to be shifted, so that the US government will blame their deaths on either Syrian or Russian forces, as a "justification" for war against either, or both countries.

I just hope to heaven that I am a million percent wrong here.

Iran, as Supporter of Self-Determination, a Thorn in Imperial Washington’s Side

ASHINGTON (Analysis) — Washington’s hostility towards the Islamic Republic of Iran dates back nearly 40 years to February of 1979, when revolutionary forces overthrew the Western-backed monarchy of Mohammad Reza Shah.

The United States consistently maintains that its involvement began with the hostage crisis in 1979 and continues today due to Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear program, as well as meddling throughout the region in places like Syria, Lebanon, and now Yemen (albeit without evidence in some cases).

What the media and Western governments don’t mention is that Iran’s core ideology stands directly opposed to U.S. military and economic expansion. The Islamic Republic’s promotion of self-determination indeed poses an existential threat to Washington’s dominance throughout the entire region — similar to that of communism during the Cold War.

Trump Confounded by Turkey’s Invasion of Syria

After years of piecemeal US military operations vaguely advancing ill-defined goals, the American position in Syria, and its vast collection of allies and enemies is so inscrutable that the State Department tried, and failed, to clarify what the US position actually is.

President Trump is being described as downright confounded about what to do about the Turkish invasion of Syria earlier this week, which sees the NATO member nation sending troops into Afrin District to attack the US-backed Kurdish YPG forces there.

In the immediate term, the US can, and largely has, chosen to ignore this and urge calm, though with US troops embedded in Kurdish territory elsewhere in Syria, including Manbij, Turkey’s talk of expanding the invasion would quickly put them in the line of fire.

It’s not as if this problem is a sudden surprise. Turkey’s been threatening the Kurds for years, and has been complaining about the US backing the Kurds more or less constantly in that same period of time.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There are no clear goals in this war against both Syria, and the reality is that the US government has failed, big time, to achieve its objective of regime change in Damascus.

I lay the President's confusion at the hands of that unholy triumverate of "President Whisperers" who have his ear right now, consisting of Kelly, Mc Masters, And Mattis; I suspect that the info about the coming debacle in Syria, and that the Turkish government was ultimately make good on its word to destroy the Kurds, got "filtered out" of any communication they had with President Trump on the issue.

And notice; not one tiny peep from the corporatized US presstitutes, that this was even happening. It has been labled "invisible to the US public (except to those who read or write blogs dedicated to ferreting out the truth, like WRH).

I first read of it on Friday, courtesy of zerohedge.com; then, the Turkish invasion was annouced at that same blog the following Sunday.

But this is Kryptonite to the US press, until the State Department has come up with some kind of a plan, to try to end this peacefully.

I am hoping - and praying - that none of the US embeds in Manbij are hurt or killed. But I am realistic enough to understand that this may well happen, and when that does happen, what the hell is the US government going to do about it?!?

Are our military in Syria to become the "sacrificial lambs", to be slaughtered as a "justification " for the US to go into Syria, hot and heavy, in a war against both Russia and Syria?!?

I wish I could bet that this will not happen; that at the end of the day, the US government will find a peaceful resolution, and get our troops safely out of Syria; unfortunately, however, just because an attack against Syria, and the Russian presence there, would be the most hamfistedly, pigheadedly stupid thing thing the US government and military could do right now, is absolutely no guarantee that it will not do it.

Iran offers alliance with Russia to counter USA in the Middle East

Iran put forward and idea to set up a coalition with the participation of Russia to counteract the United States. According to Iran's Fars news agency, assistant to Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Major-General Yahya Rahim Safavi, said that Iran's regional alliance with Russia, Syria, Pakistan and Iraq would be able to counter the American coalition. According to him, the US strategy in 2018 is to "preserve the conflict in the region," as well as expand it, and Washington seeks political, economic and military benefits for this activity. According to Safavi, the US seeks the establishment of an autonomous Kurdish region, even though the actions of the Americans violate international norms about territorial integrity of states. Russia and Iran have similar positions in Syria, even though strategic goals of the two countries are different.
