Tommy Franks KBE

Retired U.S. Army Gen. Tommy Franks, who oversaw military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, will receive an honorary knighthood Tuesday in recognition of his "inspirational leadership," officials said. Britain's Ministry of Defense said Defense Secretary Geoff Hoon will make Franks a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in a private ceremony. [Guardian, 5/25/2004]

Franks also said he agrees with President Bush's "Bring 'em on" comment made last week during a speech at the White House. Some critics say the president's comment could spark more violence against U.S. troops. However, Franks reiterated the president remarks, saying, "Absolutely. Bring 'em on." [dcmilitary 7/10/2003]
