May 17, 2008According to US Senate Intelligence Committee sources, the Bush administration initially green lighted the intended May 11 Israel 'demonstration of solidarity with the pro-Bush administration militias, some with which Israel has maintained ties since the days of Bashir Gemayal and Ariel Sharon.
In the end, 'the Bush administration got cold feet', a Congressional source revealed. So did Israel. Israel was not willing to proceed with the original Bush Administration idea which was to have Bush attend the May 15 Israel anniversary celebrations following the Israeli attack meant to hit Hezbollah hard, and give Bush the credit for coming to the dangerous region. The message was to be that Bush comes to the rescue 'on horseback and leads the US Calvary charge straight out of a B western movie where the bugle would sound and flag would be unfurled and the white hat good guys would show their stuff before riding into the sunset and back to Texas, leaving the results to the likely Obama administration to sort out. One Actor, One Room, Seven Characters: 9/11. Traumatized by the September 11th attacks, one man struggles to dismantle official history, at the expense of his sanity and even his life. Grappling with multiple realities - and multiple personalities - he must retreat into his mind in pursuit of the truth. In a fictional film about non-fictional events, there is a place where belief and faith will blind you, where nothing is sacred, and to get there all you have to do is ask: "Who Killed John O'Neill?" a dead art film by ty rauber and ryan thurston - M. This article postulates the existence of a coordinated and longstanding matrix set up by the controllers of money to dominate the movements of history. The article focuses particularly on what seems to have been an attack that has been going on for over a century against the independence of the nations of Russia and the U.S.
Weeks before announcing a $300-million, three-year advertising campaign to raise awareness about global warming, Al Gore was conducting a slide show for a group of investors in Monterey, Calif., touting companies such as Bloom Energy, Amryis , Mascoma and other firms that are not household names -- yet.
These bio-fuel and green technology firms could be poised to take off, Gore told his audience. "Here are just a few of the investments I personally think make sense," he said during the March 1 presentation. "I have a stake in these so I'll have a disclaimer there." Iraqi President Jalal Talabani has dismissed claims that Iran is sending weapons into his country and called for strong Iran ties.
"Those who make such claims against Iran only express their personal views which don't reflect those of the Iraqi government," he said in interview with the Al-Arabiya TV on Friday. "I, as the president of Iraq, do not agree with such views," he added. Well, so much for the US charge that Iran is passing weapons into Iraq.
In fact, they had to cancel a news conference a couple of days ago which was supposed to present "clear evidence" of such a claim, because they couldn't find any Iranian made weapons to be used as evidence. - M. R. In a letter to three colleagues obtained by ABC News, House Homeland Security Chairman Bennie Thompson, Miss., and Rep. Jane Harman, Calif., voiced objections to a new office DHS wants to create that would share the detailed surveillance capabilities of military intelligence satellites and other monitoring technology with state and local law enforcement.
The two urged their colleagues to bar funding for the program, which they said would likely violate long-standing laws prohibiting military involvement in peacetime law enforcement. Current law bars money for the program until Congress' auditors review and approve a legal argument from DHS justifying the office, which is expected later this year. We the People do not need more surveillance, thank you very much.
We need to be out from under a tax burden that is squeezing most of us to the breaking point, and for which we receive very darn little. - M. R. If Qahtani really conspired to commit the 9/11 attacks, he might well be released as a free man owing to the Pentagon's vengeful mistreatment of him. Might it not have been better to have instead transferred him to the U.S. federal court system, where he could have been prosecuted and convicted in a court of law and then punished? Exactly how are Americans safer as a result of the Pentagon's torture and sex abuse camp at Gitmo, especially if a man who allegedly conspired to commit the 9/11 attacks is set free because of the Pentagon's mistreatment of him?
The use of torture by the US (even when it is "outsourced") is absolutely, completely, and horrendously wrong, and does not make any one of us one bit more safe.
What would actually make Americans more safe would be something approximating a sane foreign policy. This year's Independence Day festivities have concealed as much as they have revealed. The images of joy and celebration seen by the world have failed to acknowledge the reality of a deeply divided Israel, shared by two peoples with conflicting memories and claims to the land.
As it has been doing for the past decade, Israel's Palestinian minority staged an alternative act of commemoration: a procession of families, many of them refugees from the 1948 war, to one of more than 400 Palestinian villages erased by Israel in a monumental act of state vandalism after the fighting. The villages were destroyed to ensure that the 750,000 Palestinians expelled from the state under the cover of war never return. Unless there is a totally equitable settling of the issue of a Palestinian state, Israel can only expect more of the same; fury, followed by violence, followed by Israeli repression. - M. R.

Antiwar veterans of the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan took their case to Capitol Hill Thursday, baring their souls with stories of killings of innocent civilians, torture and wrongful detentions.
The veterans spoke about extremely lax rules of engagement handed down by commanding officers, which they said virtually guaranteed atrocities would be committed, and which in turn created a violent backlash among Iraqi people and a continued cycle of violence. I remember when I was first initiated to the Palestinian cause. I must have been 10 or 11. I vividly remember the setting. It was our living room. I recall seeing sun rays penetrating across onto the Persian carpet. I remember the colors coming alive. I guess it must have been spring or summer.

Bush opened two days of talks with a string of leaders in this Red Sea resort town by sitting down with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. The two smiled and shook hands but said nothing to reporters.
But Egypt's state-owned newspapers, which are run by government-appointed managers, greeted Bush with stinging criticism. Bush is seen in the Arab world as tilting much too far toward Israel, and Bush's two-day stay in Israel earlier this week seemed to reinforce that view. Arab diplomats, journalists, and people on the street understand that Bush is absolutely not a friend to the Arab people; and is particularly no friend of Gaza or the West Bank.
The only time he appears to reach out is when he wants something - like more oil from Saudi Arabia. Under Bush's watch, the US and Israel have become far more interdependent militarily. Countries in the Middle East cannot help but have seen what happens now to a country Israel claims to be an existential threat to their existence which doesn't have a nuclear deterrent, and this is going to kick off a proliferation of weapons in the region. - M. R. There's only one good government and that's the one whose purpose is the greatest good for the greatest number of people. The less aware that you are of its presence the better it operates. Sooner or later the people I was talking about before show up and it goes through a variety of stages until it becomes an object of fear and ridicule (that's where you are now). There's only one good religion and that's the one where everyone behaves like the person upon whom it was founded in the first place and which was the reason everyone thought it was such a good idea to begin with. It's that simple. When it becomes complicated ...any of it... it's always for the same reason, "What's puzzlin you is the nature of my game." Whenever something is wrong with any human collective system that usually works (and then stops working, or starts being badly worked) it is always for the same reasons. A certain handful of individuals have gotten together to steal and control everything in sight. That's where you are now. Fascism is defined as a state where the corporations control the government. That's where you are now.
Israel's Army Radio reported Friday that the possibility of an American strike on Iran was raised in private discussions during Bush's visit.
Meanwhile, Bush practically ignored a central foreign policy goal for his final year: to advance Israeli-Palestinian peace talks that the president himself launched in Annapolis, Md., last November. Anyone who thought that Bush was seriously in Israel for anything else but a discussion about possibly launching an attack on Iran (and grandstanding in front of the Knesset) was severely mistaken. - M. :)- M. R.The announcement from Saudi Arabia, the world's largest producer, to increase supplies by 3.3 per cent to 9.45 million barrels per day came during the second trip made by President Bush this year to visit King Abdullah in Riyadh.
Saudi Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi said: "On May 10, we raised supplies to customers by increasing 300,000 barrels per day of oil (output) ... In the future if the need appears, Saudi Arabia has no objection to producing more." Essentially, what the Oil Ministers in Riyadh is saying is that they have alreadydone as much as they can do right now, and did increase their output of oil another 300,000 barrels per day as of 10 May of this year.
The problem of the price of oil has infinitely more to do with the dollar's slide in value rather than the production of oil per se, and the Saudis understand this. But it's very obvious, no matter how this paper decides to spin this, that the Saudis can do nothing more at this time. Whatever "pleas" came from the white house in the US had to be before the 10 May date they're talking about here, and not at all as a result of the current meeting between Bush and King Adbullah. - M. US lawmakers have asked President George W. Bush to consider "humanitarian intervention" in cyclone-hit Myanmar after its military rulers refused to allow foreign experts to direct relief efforts despite rising deaths.
Forty-one members of the House of Representatives wrote to Bush on Thursday asking him to "strongly consider" backing efforts by France, Britain, Germany, Denmark and other nations to gain entry into the devastated Irrawaddy Delta region "to provide urgent life-saving humanitarian aid." (Ahem).
How does one get into a country when that country's leadership doesn't want you there? Do we bomb their infrastructure, then drop food? As horrific and terribly tragic as this has been, until we are invited, we can't get in, period, end of discussion. And as for those forty-one members of the house who asked Bush to consider an "aid intervention", consider this: after the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, when two dozens nations offered immediate aid, their aid was refused by the Bush administration. Both the governments of the US and Myanmar didn't want to be embarrassed internationally by the shocking lack of resources, infrastructure, and preparedness which led to the devastation both Hurricane Katrina and Cyclone Nargis left behind. - M. This is the latest propaganda from the Hillary campaign. She can no longer defeat Obama on ideas and substance, nor even on hard facts, so now the claim is that Hillary should be the Democratic nominee because of something that MIGHT come out in the fall ahead of the election (only we cannot show it to you now) that might prevent Obama from winning against McCain.
I love the smell of panic in the campaign season. - M. R. In April, former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura telling radio talk show host Alex Jones that Obama was in danger, specifically saying, "Watch out, Barack Obama." And then there was British Nobel Prize winner Doris Lessing suggesting, "A black man in the position of president. They would kill him." Just witness the racism in West Virginia during this week's primary. Sadly, it's still alive and well, in a state where the senior senator, Robert Byrd, was a one-time member of the Ku Klux Klan.
And now, with it looking like Obama may indeed be the Democrat's choice to run against Sen. John McCain this fall, one wonders if the Clinton machine might not want to put a wrench in the works. Now, I'm not saying the Clinton machine would silence Obama or use violence, but there is an odd number of bodies six feet under in the wake of the Clinton machine. Ask Vince Foster or certain Arkansas state troopers. Oh wait, you can't. Team Hillary warns of Obama "October surprise"...

Shocking excerpts of confidential recordings recently released under the Freedom of Information Act feature former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld talking with top military analysts about how a flagging Neo-Con political agenda could be successfully restored with the aid of another terrorist attack on America.
The tape also includes a conversation where Rumsfeld and the military analysts agree on the possible necessity of installing a brutal dictator in Iraq to oversee U.S. interests. The House failed to pass a measure funding the war in Iraq on Thursday afternoon by a vote of 141 to 149, with 132 Republicans voting "present" to protest what they see as unfair treatment by the Democratic majority.
... Democrats bypassed the House Appropriations Committee and brought the massive war supplemental spending bill directly to the floor in three parts, a move that Republicans vigorously objected to. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the Democratic leadership were trying to protect their members from having to vote in favor of war funding. So, what this is is that the Democrats really support the war, but in an election year don;t want to go on record as voting to continue it. But the GOP, also looking at the elections, want to be able to tar the Democrats with a pro-war vote to equalize the damage Bush's wars have done to the Republicans.

And unfortunately, my officer in charge ... basically told me that it was not my job to analyze ... someone somewhere higher up the chain knew what they were doing."

Facing dismally low approval ratings at home, US President George W. Bush basked for three days in near-adulation as he joined Israel's 60th anniversary festivities.
If you really think about it, a President who is doing a great job should in theory but more liked within his own country than anywhere else, because he works for the good of his own country ahead of that of every other country.
Therefore, the fact that Bush is treated as a hero in Israel while he is so reviled here in the US only underscores the extent to which Bush sold out the welfare of the US for the sake of Israel, and as a corollary, the extent to which Israel control the US Government. - M. Asked if Obama was an appeaser, McCain said Obama must explain why he wants to talk with leaders like Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and added that Obama's position was a serious error. "It shows naivete and inexperience and lack of judgment to say that he wants to sit down across the table from an individual who leads a country that says Israel is a stinking corpse, that is dedicated to the extinction of the state of Israel. My question is, what does he want to talk about?"

Israel is fully satisfied with the results of the visit of George W. Bush, including policy on Iran's nuclear program, senior officials in Jerusalem said Thursday.
Setting aside the fact that Iran has no more nuclear weapons than Iraq did, what this comes down to is that under orders from Israel, the US will now violate the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. - M. R.
An Ohio-based group of Democratic Hillary Clinton supporters say they'll work actively against Sen. Barack Obama if he becomes the nominee, arguing that Clinton has been the subject of "intense sexism" by party leaders and the media.
The government really does like to mess with its numbers, although the Bureau of Labor Statistics did state in their report that the price of gasoline was up, when it came time to record the price change for gasoline in their seasonally adjusted index, they recorded a decline in the price of gasoline. Here's the BLS in their own words:
On a seasonally adjusted basis, ...the transportation index declined 0.7 percent in April, reflecting a 2.0 percent decrease in the index for gasoline. Wall Street rallied yesterday on this bit of bogus inflation data. Here's the real scoop from The Daily Fuel Gauge Report from the Automobile Association of America: In April gasoline prices were up 11.5% from their price of $3.39 a gallon a month earlier. And, the cost of gasoline has risen 22% from its year-ago price of $3.10 a gallon. The Congressional committee kept the names of many of the participants under wraps and no criminal action was ever brought against them. But a few names have leaked out. And one is Prescott Bush, the grandfather of the incumbent president. Prescott Bush was of course deep into the business of the Hamburg-America Lines, and had tight relations throughout this period with the new Government that had come to power in Germany a year earlier under Chancellor Aldoph Hitler. It appears that Bush was to have formed a key liaison for the group with the new German government.
Iranian Embassy employees and their driver were shot Thursday in a Baghdad incident that some reports said involved Iraqi troops.
Iran's state-run Islamic Republic News Agency was blaming the United States for the attack. The George W Bush administration's plan to create a new crescendo of accusations against Iran for allegedly smuggling arms to Shi'ite militias in Iraq has encountered not just one but two setbacks.
The government of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki refused to endorse US charges of Iranian involvement in arms smuggling to Shi'ite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi Army, and a plan to show off a huge collection of Iranian arms captured in and around the central city of Karbala had to be called off after it was discovered that none of the arms was of Iranian origin. In a recent interview with Channel Four News, Blix said the West's approach to Tehran's nuclear standoff is in marked contrast to that of North Korea.
He explained that Washington's recently-adopted 'policy of containment' is failing to resolve international issues, stressing that 'there are many things that can be done on the Western side'. Just in case you don't remember who Hans Blix is, he is the gentleman who told the world that Iraq had absolutely no weapons of mass destruction.
H was absolutely right then, and he is absolutely right now. - M. R. Barack Obama today accused President Bush of launching a "false political attack" after he appeared to compare the Democratic presidential hopeful's foreign policy to appeasement of the Nazis.
We have heard this kind of rhetoric coming from folks like Bibi Netanyahu frequently, in terms of comparing Ahmedinejad to Hitler, and Iran to Germany. But for Bush to open his mouth and say this (in front of the Knesset and the world) is truly, horrifically amazing. And particularly so, in light of the fact that Defense Secretary Gates has also just stated that he sees negotiation with Iran as the logical way out of the current stalemate. "I was always with him. He was an innocent person, kind. He was talking to me about how he was going to inherit part of his father's land and farm it and how he was going to get married and stay here." Nayef added tearfully: "He was a boy who had hopes. He wanted to live his life." He added: "What is my daughter going to think? She is going to grow up hating the Israelis."

"Many babies are born suffering from anaemia that they have inherited from their mothers," Dr Salah al-Rantisi, head of the women's health department at the Palestinian ministry of health in Gaza told IPS. And the mothers are becoming anaemic because they do not now get enough nutrition through pregnancy.
That in turn happens because the Israeli blockade has choked the supply of food and medicines. The brilliance (as well as the snakiness) of the reasoning! It speeds right past huge moral and ethical requirements without fulfilling any, preempting any debate at the ethico-judicial, or legislative, level, forcing the debate way past the point of acceptance, zipping right to a fallaciously thrown together conclusion. And the conclusion: "Who? We? Torture?"
Exactly. No reasoning at all. Thus, the brilliance! The NCIS document contains new information about the deaths of some of these prisoners, including details about Farhad Mohamed, who had contusions under his eyes and the bottom of his chin, a swollen nose, cuts and large bumps on his forehead when he died in Mosul in 2004. The document also includes details about Naem Sadoon Hatab, a 52-year-old Iraqi man who was strangled to death at the Whitehorse detainment facility in Nasiriyah in June 2003; the shooting death of Hemdan El Gashame in Nasiriyah in March 2003; and the death of Manadel Jamadi during an interrogation after his head was beaten with a stove at Abu Ghraib in November 2003.
This has been done in your name, folks, and with your tax dollarsWe have a friend who travels frequently due to her job.
Recently, she confessed that when traveling abroad and people ask her where she's from, she says she's Canadian, rather than mention that she's from the US. It will take decades for this country to wipe away the stain of what we have done in these prisons in the name of "US Security". The fact that we have tortured (and/or outsourced torture) completely undermines our ability to talk about freedom, democracy, and the crucial value of human dignity to any other country. And that is one hell of a shame. - M. R. But what Bush did in Israel this morning goes well beyond the accepted confines of American political debate, When the president speaks to a foreign parliament on behalf of our country, his message needs to be clear and unambiguous. Our democracy may look messy to outsiders, and we may have our disagreements with some sharp elbows thrown around, but at the end of the day we are not Republicans or Democrats or liberals or conservatives.
We are Americans. And you, Mr. Bush, are the leader of us all. To use a diplomatic setting on foreign soil to score a cheap political point at home is way beneath your office, way beneath your country, and way beneath the people you serve. You have been handed an office once uplifted to great heights by fellow countrymen from Washington to Lincoln to Roosevelt to Eisenhower, and have plunged it so deeply into the Karl-Rove-and-Rush-Limbaugh-fueled world of political destruction and survival of all costs that have lost all perspective -- and all sense of decency. To travel to Israel and to associate a sitting American senator and your possible successor in the Oval Office with those who at one time gave comfort to an enemy of the United States is, in and of itself, an act of political treason. Authorities practiced processing citizens through the de facto internment camp and giving them mandatory pharmaceutical products.
Perhaps the people of Chicago's lack of enthusiasm for the drill can be explained by them waking up to the fact that these exercises are nothing more than an excuse for fat enforcers to practice shoving people around in internment camps while the local TV news shows images of people being rounded up and processed by men with big guns - all part of the conditioning for an attack we are constantly assured is "inevitable". It heartens me to see that Chicagoans are wise to what's really going on here. - M. R.
The cleric's wife, Ghali Nabila, said her husband, Hassan Mustafa Osama Nasr, known as Abu Omar, was taken from Italy and transferred to a prison in Egypt, where, she said, he was repeatedly tortured. While acknowledging a program of "extraordinary rendition," or abducting terrorism suspects outside the United States, the Bush administration claims that no one is sent to nations that torture.
This country tortures, and outsources torture.
And a word to those traveling abroad. If you feel compelled to talk about this country's core values of freedom, democracy, and human rights, just please shut up until the urge passes. Those with whom you are speaking understand that these values hold utterly no meaning to those in the highest offices of this country . - M. R. This was Friday May 9th on the Whatreallyhappened show (May 10th Japan time) It was a radio interview but I included some relevant video clips and what I said during the breaks and cut out the commercials and added links. Early this month, the George W. Bush administration's plan to create a new crescendo of accusations against Iran for allegedly smuggling arms to Shiite militias in Iraq encountered not just one but two setbacks.
We generally know when someone attached to this administration is lying: they open their traps and they speak, particularly when it comes to Iran.

Clinton adviser Ann Lewis tacked to the right, criticizing Obama for saying he'd meet with the President of Iran and for suggesting that a US President needn't have to echo the policies of the Likud Party in order to be "pro-Israel." "The role of the president of the United States is to support the decisions that are made by the people of Israel," Lewis said. "It is not up to us to pick and choose from among the political parties."

"The role of the president of the United States is to support the decisions that are made by the people of Israel," Lewis said. --- Folks, it just does not get any more obvious than that! - M. R. As many as 200 U.S.-trained Mexican security personnel have defected to drug cartels to carry out killings on both sides of the border and as far north as Dallas, Rep. Ted Poe, R-Humble, told Congress on Wednesday.
The renegade members of Mexico's elite counter-narcotics teams trained at Fort Benning, Ga., have switched sides, contributing to a wave of violence that has claimed some 6,000 victims over the past 30 months, including prominent law enforcement leaders, the Houston-area Republican told the House Foreign Affairs Committee. It's all about the money.
oObviously, the cartels pay better than the "good guys" do. And have you ever noticed: every time the US declares a "war" on some kind of problem or another, the problem generally gets worse, and not better?? - M. R. Sheldon Adelson flew with Pres. Bush this week on his trip to Israel. I wondered what promises or threatens were given to Bush, motivating him to follow the Likud/Labor/Kadima lines that, Iran is next on the agenda.
Now is the time to attack Iran...

The fallout from Chalabi-gate continues to rain down on the heads of the War Party, opening up the exciting prospect that some neocons might well wind up behind bars.
The charge? Espionage, as Sidney Blumenthal informs us: No one could have guessed, back in 2000, what would come of Chalabi's efforts in Washington.
The US military officials have cut ties with former US-favored Iraqi politician, Ahmad Chalabi over his alleged relations with Iran.
In each and every one of these interchangeable frames for the meeting, Manusher Ghorbanifar claims he played the leading role. Iranian by birth and residing as far as we know between Paris and Geneva, Ghorbanifar does not have a good reputation. For some, he is an arms trafficker. For others, an expert in forgery. For civilian Italian intelligence, Ghorbanifar is a secret agent for Tehran. For a certain US intelligence agency, he is a Mossad agent. For yet others he is a clever bullshitter.
Government's decisions that caused violent uprising repealed in effort to placate Hizbullah. Celebratory firing of weapons resounds through capital
You have to love the use of that verb, "capitulates".
What the Lebanese government has done with this action is to buy some time to possibly get the political vacuum at the top of the government resolved, as they have not had a President at the head if its government since November of last year. - M. R. Iraqi exile leader Ahmad Chalabi was one of the most sordid figures in the run-up to the Iraq war. Paid by the Bush administration to muster pre-war intelligence, Chalabi drummed up claims that Saddam Hussein had WMD, helping lead the United States into war. More recently, he promoted the "surge" to the Iraqi government.
A new book by Aram Roston reveals that Chalabi supported John McCain (R-AZ) for president in 2000, believing that the senator would be the most receptive to his agenda. Muckraked "I believe God wants me to be president."

The Israeli siege of Gaza that has restricted access to food, water and medicine is now beginning to hit unborn children and newborn babies.
Sixty years ago, with Israel's establishment, Palestinians entered a nightmare from which they have never awoken. By joining Israel's celebration of its sixtieth anniversary, President Bush neglects this crucial reality, and underscores our government's insensitivity to Palestinian rights.
Tensions are high in Georgia's breakaway Abkhazia region as all parties accuse one another of provocations that could lead to war across the volatile Caucasus Mountains.

Hung from the rafters of her mother's shed. Hide under yer covers, Ye Dicks and Ye Johns! Ye Senators and Prosecutors, Ye Media Cons! There's blood on yer hands, though you pretend to be clean, Ye'll always be haunted by the Ghost of Deborah Jeane... A group of Democratic senators wants to make a massive arms sale to Saudi Arabia contingent on getting cheaper oil, reports AFP. "We are saying to the Saudis that, if you don't help us, why should we be helping you?" says Chuck Schumer, a Democratic senator from New York. "We are saying that we need real relief, and we need it quickly. You need our arms, but we need you to cooperate and not strangle American consumers."
Memo to Chuck Schumer: it's not Saudi oil that's killing us; it's the US dollar having fallen off a cliff, courtesy of this country's Federal Reserve, the Federal deficit, and the trade deficit.
And Chuck, if you and your cohorts had done your homework, you would understand that, unlike Kuwait, Saudi Arabia has yet to de-link its currency, the rial, from the dollar. Were that to happen, it would be a real nail in the coffin of this country's economy, as would their dumping of US dollar holdings. The Saudis aren't the bad guys here at all. - M. R.
