MATTIS: WITHDRAWING US TROOPS FROM SYRIA WOULD BE A "STRATEGIC BLUNDER"

Speaking at NATO headquarters on Friday, Secretary of Defense James Mattis reiterated his opposition to the idea of withdrawing US troops from Syria. He said any withdrawal before progress was made would be a “strategic blunder.”

Mattis’ position reflects those of a lot of top US cabinet officials, who have resisted President Trump’s talk of a quick withdrawal. He argues that the UN peace plan necessitates an ongoing US military presence.

On the one hand, Mattis suggests leaving too soon could give “the terrorists the opportunity to recover.” On the other hand, he also says that leaving would be exploited by the Assad government and its supporters.

This again sets out the US position that the UN plan necessitates regime change in Syria, something other supporters say is not the case. It also suggests a more or less permanent US presence in Syria, since there is virtually no chance the US will impose a favorable outcome.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The absolute, killer, irony here, is that according to Russian Major-General Igor Konashenkov, in a conversation with reporters today, made the following statement:

All remaining resistence zones in Syria, are US-controlled areas.

Let's wrap our heads for a moment around these two statements, and compare what Sec Def Mattis has stated with what Major-General Konashenkov has stated.

It is obvious that they cannot both be correct. I think, knowing what I know about US geopolitics, that Mattis is trying to find some logic-defying way of defending the military US presence in Syria, which he absolutely understands, in his heart of hearts, is not based on any potential good for the Syrian people; remember, the US has been the sponsor of the rebels in Syria, and has trained and funded and equipped jihadist rebels here.

Pentagon wasted $500 million on training rebels in Syria.

The US and Israeli foreign policy goals have been, and will continue to be, both the balkanization of Syria, to make it easier to control, and effect regime change in Damascus, however that can be made to happen.

ALL REMAINING ISIS RESISTANCE ZONES IN SYRIA ARE IN US-CONTROLLED AREAS – RUSSIAN MOD

Islamic State still keeps its presence in Syria, but only in US-controlled areas while those liberated by Syrian government forces areas are slowly recovering after terrorists’ defeat, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
“All the remaining pockets of resistance of ISIS terrorists in Syria are only in areas controlled by the United States,” Major-General Igor Konashenkov, a defense ministry spokesman, said on Saturday.

Earlier, US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said in a bold statement that pulling out of the Arab Republic “must avoid leaving a vacuum in Syria that can be exploited by the Assad regime or its supporters,” in apparent reference to Iran and Russia.

Russia has been fighting terrorists in the country on the invitation of the Syrian government, while the US presence there has been deemed aggressive by Damascus.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Imagine my absolute (absence of) surprise at this development!!

Is Putin Really Ditching Iran and Siding With Netanyahu in Syria?

The undeniable truth is that Putin foiled the initial Israel plan for Syria.

In fact, Hezbollah and Iran had already intervened in Syria and were desperately “plugging holes” in a collapsing Syrian front. So, if anything, Putin has to be the one to be credited for forcing the Israelis to give up on their “plan A” and go to plan “B” which I described here and which can be summarized as follows:

British Defense Chief Defends Bombing of "Really Wicked and Evil Enemy" in Syria

The outgoing chief of the British Armed Forces went on the defensive amid a new report accusing the US-led coalition of violating international law and killing hundreds of civilians in the Syrian city of Raqqa.

Defense Staff Chief and Air Chief Marshall Stuart Peach said that the coalition had been "meticulous" in its efforts to avoid civilian casualties amid its bombardment of the "really wicked and evil enemy" in Raqqa.

Speaking to the BBC, Stuart stressed that the Royal Air Force's Raqqa operation was "the most carefully planned air campaign in history."

The senior officer in charge of the UK's fight against Daesh (ISIS)* also noted that all alleged incidents of civilian casualties are being properly investigated, pending the provision of information about the time and place they occurred.

Webmaster's Commentary:

My tendency with this is to absolutely believe Amnesty International; British Defense Staff Chief and Air Chief Marshall Stuart Peach is simply attempting cover his own backside, and those of his and US troops, because of the huge number of civilian warcrimes committed by the US and the UK against Syrian citizens in Raqqa.

And as to his statement about how they would "investigate civilian deaths", please don't hold your breath; as reported yesterday at blacklistednews.com:

Assad warned any attempt to remove US from Syria will be met by an ‘armed response’

Pentagon officials warned Syrian President Bashar al-Assad that any attempt to remove the United States from the country by force will be met with an “armed response.”

Director of Staff General Kenneth McKenzie explained that any party in Syria should understand that attacking US forces or its coalition partners would be “a bad policy.”

He made the warning after Mr Assad said in an interview with RT that the US was “losing its cards” in Syria and demanded they leave the country, accusing them of prolonging the seven-year war.

SYRIA NOT ‘IMMUNE’, ISRAEL WILL DESTROY ASSAD’S FORCES IF ATTACKED, SAYS NETANYAHU

Israel will “destroy” any Syrian forces that attempt an attack against Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned. He also cautioned President Assad against inviting Iranian troops into Syria.

“Now the war is nearly over he invites Iran in? He is no longer immune. If he fires, we'll destroy his forces,” Netanyahu said in London on Thursday.

In May, Israel launched several missiles at what it claimed were Iranian military targets inside Syria. Tel Aviv is believed to be responsible for numerous airstrikes on Syrian territory, but the Israeli military rarely comments on such cases.

Last month Netanyahu warned that Israel considers all Iranian forces inside Syria – not just troops near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights – as targets.

“We will continue to act against [Iran’s] intention to establish a military presence in Syria opposite us, not just opposite the Golan Heights but anywhere in Syria,” he said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks as though Netanyahu is getting ready to create a false flag operation, to be blamed against both Syria, and Iran, as the "justification" for an attack against both countries, with the US military steppng in closely thereafter/

But I think, if this is what he is planning, he and his cabinet need think, to very seriously, about just what Russia will do, if he does this.

Russia's military prowess has already been very much proven in the Syrian theatre of war, and has historically sworn to defend Iran, should it get attacked militarily.

2006 State Department Cable Reveals Plan To Use Terror, Intrigue, Kurds To Destabilize Syria, Weaken Assad

By Brandon Turbeville

Despite the bulk of the attempted destruction of Syria having taken place during the Obama administration, the fact is that the agenda began marching years before Obama took office and it is continuing to do so today. Ample evidence has been provided demonstrating that a plan to destroy the Syrian government goes back at least to the Bush Jr. administration and the desire to do so goes even further back than that.

One such piece of evidence is a secret State Department cable obtained by WikiLeaks entitled “Influencing the SARG In The End Of 2006” which was distributed from the US embassy in Damascus to requisite officials in the Department of Treasury, National Security Council, White House, Secretary of State, League of Arab States, US Mission To European Union in Brussels, United Nations (NY), US Central Command, and Tel Aviv...

Today it’s the Golan Heights, tomorrow it will be Medina

If the Europeans thought this was as bad as it could get they were mistaken. This week they would have to pretend it’s business as usual and welcome the Israeli prime minister. He is on a charm offensive to convince European leaders why they should also withdraw from the JCPA.

But this is not all, there will be other demands. In recent days, Israeli politicians have been stepping up pressure on the Trump administration to recognise Israel’s “sovereignty” over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.

As the saying goes, there is no smoke without fire. The flurry of diplomatic activity in Tehran, Moscow, Tel Aviv, Damascus and Amman all suggest that something is amiss. Although the details still remain secret, the reality is that Israel wants firm guarantees that there will be no Iranian presence in south Syria. So Russia’s Vladimir Putin has provided the assurance that only Syrian troops will be stationed there and more importantly, there will be no Syrian belligerency or irredentism.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JUNE 6, 2018: YPG FORCES WITHDRAW FROM MANBIJ

Units of the Syrian Army’s 11th Armoured Division have been delpoyed in the northern part of the Syrian-Lebanese border where they are set to replace Hezbollah fighters. The area of Qusayr has been one of the key Hezbollah footholds in western Syria. It is unclear if it will be abandoned.

According to some pro-government sources, Russian military police units are also withdrawing from the border area.

The situation over the northern town of Manbij has been rapidly developing since the US and Turkey endorsed a roadmap for the area.

Kurds left in the cold as US & Turkey agree on ‘roadmap’ for Syrian city pullout

Ankara and Washington say they have agreed on details of a withdrawal of US-backed Kurdish militia from northern Syria, as visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu declared further US support to the Kurds “unacceptable.”

Cavusoglu was in Washington on Monday, meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to discuss Syria as well as US-Turkish relations. The State Department confirmed the agreement on a “road map” for the city of Manbij, using dry diplomatic language.

At the press conference following the meeting with Pompeo, however, Cavusoglu was far more direct. The city of Manbij would be secured by both Turkish and US forces, he said, and the roadmap will be implemented in other parts of Syria as well, according to Reuters and several Turkish outlets.

Further US support for the Kurdish YPG (People’s Protection Units) militia was “unacceptable,” the Turkish FM declared.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation: Turkey and the US government have just agreed to balkanize Syria, in Mambij, as the "base" for attempting further destabilization against Al Assad and Damascus.

So we find, yet again, that the Kurds are getting both screwed and demonized by both countries; just where, please, are the Kurds supposed to go, if they are getting thrown out of both Turkey and Syria, particularly those who are not advocating, or participating, in any violence against either Turkey or Syria?!?

U.S. AIRSTRIKES VIOLATED INTERNATIONAL LAW IN “WAR OF ANNIHILATION” IN RAQQA, SYRIA, SAYS AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL

AS THE BATTLE for Raqqa, Syria, raged last October, a family in the Harat al-Badu neighborhood bunkered down in their home in an attempt to survive the fighting between the U.S.-led coalition and Islamic State militants. Mohammed Fayad, a man in his 80s, had lived in the same home in Harat al-Badu for the past 50 years. When the fighting began, Fayad refused to flee the property that he had put a lifetime of labor into, remaining in the home with his daughters and other relatives. As coalition airstrikes began pounding the city, Fayad’s home also became a refuge for other terrified neighbors and their families seeking safety from the attacks.

Their safe haven would not last. On the night of October 11, a coalition airstrike hit Fayad’s home. As Ali Habib, a local man who had been sheltering his family with Fayad, later told researchers from Amnesty International:

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US war against Syria, in its attempt to effect regime change in Damascus, is both immoral, and insane; unfortunately, the US government does not care what destruction its war crimes leave in the wake of attacks like this.

In the mindset of the the US government, "The end justifies the means".

Syrians in Golan 'paradise' caught between occupation and war

Driving to the Syrian Golan Heights, just over two hours northeast of Tel Aviv, the change in scenery signals the entrance into territory occupied by Israel since 1967.

The temperature drops as roads twist into mountain ranges, and the green landscape is amplified by the cherry and apple fields the region is known for.

During the war, known by some as the “Six-Day War” and fought between 5 and 10 June 1967, about 130,000 Syrians from the Golan Heights fled further into Syria as 340 villages and farms were demolished by Israeli forces.

Each year on 5 June, Syrians mark their displacement from the Golan with Yom al-Naksa, Arabic for 'the Day of the Setback'. Palestinians observe the same anniversary, commemorating their forced expulsion from the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem.

Today, only one town and four villages remain: Majdal Shams, Buqatha, Masaada, Ein Qenyah and al-Gager, inhabited by approximately 25,000 locals.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JUNE 5, 2018: ROADMAP FOR MANBIJ, EXPLOSION NEAR US-FRENCH MILITARY BASE

On June 4, the US State Department officially acknowledged that Turkey and the US had endorsed a roadmap for the northern town of Manbij. The announcement came after a meeting between Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavu?o?lu and U.S. State Secretary Mike Pompeo in Washington.

Manbij is currently controlled by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Kurdish YPG and YPJ forces are the core of the SDF. Ankara sees them as terrorist group.

Earlier, Turkey claimed that the US-Turkish roadmap on Manbij will force YPG/YPJ elements to leave the area. However, the implementation and real details of this roadmap still remains in question.

On the same day, an explosion erupted near a US-French military base in the SDF-held town of Ain Issa. According to pro-opposition sources, at least one person was killed in the incident. However, no further details are currently available.

Assad tells US to leave Syria

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has said the United States has "lost its cards" in Syria, calling on America to leave the country in an interview with Russia Today. "The Americans should leave. Somehow, they're going to leave. They came to Iraq with no legal basis, and look what happened to them. They have to learn their lesson. Iraq is no exception. Syria is no exception. People will not accept foreigners in this region any more," Assad said. The Syrian president said his government had "opened doors to negotiation" with US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a predominantly Kurdish group that controls parts of northern Syria. The SDF, which Assad dubbed the "only problem left in Syria," would be confronted with force if negotiations fail, the president said.

Syria's Assad: Improving Air Defenses to Stop Israeli Strikes, Ready to Confront U.S. Troops

Syrian President Bashar Assad said in an interview on Thursday that the only way to stop Israeli air strikes is by improving the country's air defenses. "We are doing that," he said. In a televised interview to RT in Damascus, Assad denied Iranian troops are in Syria, saying there are only Iranian officers who are working with the Syrian army. Assad, echoing Russia from earlier in the week, said the United States must exit the war-torn country. "The Americans should leave, somehow they are going to leave," he said. Responding to U.S. President Donald Trump's description of him as "Animal Assad," the Syrian leader said: "What you say is what you are." Assad said he would recover areas of Syria held by the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and that U.S. forces should learn the lesson of Iraq and leave the country.

U.S. GAVE JERUSALEM TO ISRAEL, WILL SYRIA'S GOLAN HEIGHTS BE NEXT?

Israel has been pressuring the U.S. to recognize its self-proclaimed ownership of the Golan Heights, a southwestern Syrian territory seized by Israel during a 1967 conflict and later annexed without international recognition.

Israeli Intelligence Minister Israel Katz made the revelation in an interview with Reuters on Wednesday, saying such a follow-up to Washington's recognition of the disputed city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel would likely come within the upcoming months. Katz said accepting Israeli control of the Golan Heights would target not only longtime foe Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, but also an even more powerful enemy: Iran.

Israel has targeted Iranian and pro-Iran positions in Syria for years and Katz said President Donald Trump's recent decision to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and exit from the 2015 nuclear agreement meant it was "the perfect time" to escalate the administration's anti-Iran campaign.

Israel in panic over losing their ‘dear’ ISIS & Al-Nusra terrorists in Syria – Assad

Striking targets in Syria and threatening to assassinate the leader on the pretext of fighting Iranian influence is a sign that Israel is in “panic” after losing its “dear” terrorist assets, President Bashar Assad told RT.

Over the last couple of months, Israel has intensified its bombing of military infrastructure in Syria, arguing that the Iranian presence in the Arab Republic jeopardizes its own national security. However, Israel’s justification for its air strikes based on alleged Iranian assets is a “lie,” Assad told RT’s Murad Gazdiev in an exclusive interview.

The Syrian leader believes, however, that the closer the deadly conflict comes to an end, the more desperate his opponents’ measures become. SYRIAN WAR REPORT – MAY 31, 2018: 9,200 LOCALS FROM EASTERN GHOUTA JOIN SYRIAN ARMY

More than 9,200 locals from the Eastern Ghouta region near Damascus have joined the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and several pro-government groups since the liberation of the area on April 14, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on May 30.

Under the reconciliation agreement reached in the area, 18-42 y.o. men got a six-month period to settle their legal status and join the SAA if they have not completed their mandatory service.

On May 9, the number of locals joined government forces was about 4,000 according to the Syrian pro-opposition news outlet Damascus Voice.

Four Russian "Military Advisers" Killed In Syria Clashes

In a world in which "spying" is also known as "benign information gathering", it makes sense that all "soldiers", especially the recently deceased, are called "military advisors."

In this vein, on Sunday the Russian Defense Ministry said that two Russian military advisers have been killed and five Russian soldiers injured during a clash with militants in Deir ez-Zor, according to the Russian Defence Ministry on Sunday. Two of the injured soldiers later died from their wounds, bringing the total dead to four.

EU EXTENDS SANCTIONS AGAINST SYRIA FOR ONE YEAR

The European Union has decided to extend sanctions against Syria by one year, until June 1, 2019, the EU Council said in a statement on Monday.

“On 28 May 2018, the Council extended EU restrictive measures against the Syrian regime until 1 June 2019. Given the ongoing repression of the civilian population, the EU decided to maintain its restrictive measures against the Syrian regime and its supporters, in line with the EU strategy on Syria,” the document read.

The European Union introduced sanctions “against Syria and persons responsible for the violent repression against the civilian population” in May 2011, during the Arab Spring protests, which led to the ongoing civil war in the country.

Webmaster's Commentary:

No, Sputnik; the ongoing demonstrations and resultant civil war was funded and supported by US funds, training and equipment!!

I am rather surprised that Sputnik got the situation so wrong; it normally is better than this, which is rather... dismaying.

REPORT: ISRAEL, IRAN ENGAGE IN INDIRECT NEGOTIATIONS OVER SYRIA FIGHTING

Israel and Iran engaged over the weekend in indirect negotiations in Jordan regarding fighting in southwestern Syria, according to Elaph, a Saudi-owned website.

Elaph reported that the Iranians pledged not to participate in expected battles in southwestern Syria between President Bashar Assad’s forces and rebel groups, and Israel has made it clear that it will not intervene in the battles in the tri-border area, as long as Hezbollah and the Iranian-backed Shi’ite militias are not involved.

Report: Israel, Iran in ‘Indirect Negotiations’ Over Syria Fighting

The Syrian government’s planned offensive against rebels in their nation’s southwest is a potentially volatile matter, particularly with Israel on the warpath. Yet reports suggest virtually unprecedented indirect talks between Israel and Iran aim to avoid any accidental escalations.

The reports, emerging from the Saudi media, say that Jordan is facilitating the talks at an Amman hotel. Iranian officials are in one room, and Israeli officials are in an adjacent one, with Jordanian mediators carrying messages back and forth.

US Warns Of “Firm” Response If Syria Attacks ISIS … No, Really

By Brandon Turbeville

In an apparent attempt to remove all pretense that the United States is nothing more than al-Qaeda’s Air Force in Syria, the American government is warning its Syrian counterpart that, if the SAA moves ahead with its upcoming southern offensive to remove ISIS and al-Qaeda terrorists from its southern borders, the U.S. will take “firm and appropriate measures.”...

Russia: Only Syrian army should be on country’s southern border

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday that only Syrian government troops should have a presence on Syria’s southern border, which is close to Jordan and Israel.

Rebels hold stretches of that area and intensive Israeli airstrikes in Syria this month were prompted by what Israel said was Iranian rocket fire from the area into the Golan Heights.

Russia and Iran are close allies of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

US warns Syrian government not to advance on south

The United States warned it would take “firm and appropriate measures” to protect a cease-fire in southern Syria if President Bashar Assad’s forces move against rebels there.

The area in southwestern Syria, between the border city of Daraa and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, has emerged as a flashpoint in a wider standoff between regional archrivals Israel and Iran.

The U.S., Russia, and Jordan agreed last year to include Daraa in a “de-escalation zone” to freeze the lines of conflict. But government forces have recently dropped leaflets on rebel-held areas warning of an imminent offensive and urging fighters to lay down their arms, Syrian state media said Friday.

In a statement released Friday, the U.S. State Department said it was concerned by reports that Assad’s forces were preparing for an operation in southwestern Syria. It warned the government against “any actions that risk broadening the conflict.”

ISRAEL BOMBS NEW MILITARY POSITIONS IN SYRIA AND MISSILES FIRE BACK, REPORTS SAY

Israeli missiles have reportedly targeted military positions in Syria as local air defenses fired back in an attempt to intercept the attack.

Citing defense sources, the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency reported Thursday that the Syrian armed forces had intercepted an Israeli attack on a military airport in the central province of Homs. No casualties have been reported, and Israel has yet to claim responsibility, but the country routinely keeps silent about its growing military role in neighboring Syria, where Israel recently launched a historic wave of airstrikes against suspected Iranian and pro-Iran targets.

US warns of 'firm measures' if Syria launches new assault

The US has warned Syria it will take "firm and appropriate measures" if government forces violate a ceasefire by launching an anticipated assault on the rebel-held region of Daraa.

Emboldened by recent victories over rebel outposts near Damascus, government forces of President Bashar al-Assad were on Wednesday reportedly moving into the Daraa province, and Syrian government aircraft have dropped leaflets there calling on rebels to surrender or face being killed.

The territory, one of the last large areas controlled by rebel groups, is covered by a ceasefire agreement signed between the US, Russia and neighbouring Jordan.

Didn't the US violate the cease fire with that air attack a few days ago?

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – MAY 25, 2018: ISRAELI, US STRIKES ON GOVERNMENT FORCES. WHAT IS GOING ON?

Late on May 24, Israeli warplanes carried out several strikes on the al-Dabaa airbase in the southwestern Homs countryside, according to pro-government sources. The Syrian Air Defense Forces (SADF) responded to the attack by launching at least 2 S-200 surface-to-air missiles, according to local activists.

The General Command of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) said in an official statement that the Israeli Air Force had targeted an airbase in central Syria. It added that the SADF had repelled the Israeli attack.

At the same time, reports appeared that the missiles launch were allegedly caused by a false alarm. However, this version is still unconfirmed.

The al-Dabaa airbase is well known for being one of the key HQs of Hezbollah in Syria.

Early on May 24, the Syrian state-run media and the Hezbolalh media wing in Syria reported that US-led coalition aircraft had carried out strikes on positions of the pro-government forces near al-Bukamal, al-Mayadin and the T2 pumping station.

Syria Rejects US Demand for Iranian Pullout

One of the 12 demands issued by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was a complete pullout from Syria of all pro-Iranian forces. Iran hasn’t really had a chance to respond, but Syria has already chimed in, rejecting the idea.

Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad said the matter isn’t even up for discussion, noting that the decision “concerns the sovereignty of Syria.” He added Syria’s government is grateful for the help of Iranian military advisers, as well as Russian troops.

Mikdad further faulted the US for its continued intervention in Syria, and its “support of terrorists in Syria and elsewhere.” The US has troops within Syria, but those troops were not invited by the Syrian government.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Syrian Deputy Minister Mikdad is absolutely correct in his assessment; unfortunately, Pompeo and Bolton will use this as their excuse to escalate the US war in Syria, ultimately translating into wars against Russia and Iran.

US-led strike hits government targets in Syria – state media

US-led coalition warplanes have bombed several Syrian army positions in the eastern Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor, state media outlet SANA reports, citing a military source.

The attack took place shortly after midnight on Thursday. SANA reported that the US-led coalition aircraft inflicted limited material damage and no casualties. The airstrikes, which hit near the city of Al-Bukamal, were reportedly coordinated with anti-government militants.

Earlier, Lebanon’s Hezbollah group, an ally of the Syrian forces in the fight with Islamic State (IS, former ISIS/ISIL) said the coalition jets targeted two Syrian army outposts, including an energy installation near the Iraqi border.

“7 Countries In 5 Years:” 2007 Wesley Clark Interview Reveals US Plan To Go To War With Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Lebanon, Somalia, And Sudan

A war of words between Iran and the United States is now ensuing with actual military aggression against Iran by Israel in Syria promising to provide an even greater likelihood that the U.S. military and America’s busy intelligence community will soon be working even harder to ensure that Iran is no longer able to resist Atlanticist hegemony.

However, the plan to destroy Iran is nothing new as anyone who has been following the US war machine can easily attest to.

TRUMP’S WAR AGAINST IRAN

Israel launched waves of air attacks and ground shelling on a score of alleged Iranian military positions in Syria this week. Was this a big step forward in the plan by Israel's leader Benjamin Netanyahu and his ally Donald Trump to provoke a major war with Iran? It certainly looks so ... Many of the same war party crowd that engineered the 2003 US invasion of Iraq are now running the Trump administration. Their goal is to cripple Iran and leave the Mideast to joint Saudi-Egyptian-Israeli control. Recall President George W. Bush's assertion that once he had crushed Iraq the next targets of US military intervention would be Lebanon, Syria, Iran and then Pakistan. Invading Iran would not be easy.

"This is the only thing preventing offensive measures by Iran," he added.

The officer also warned Syria not to use its air defenses against Israeli warplanes. "All batteries that fire on Israeli aircraft will be destroyed. All batteries that do not fire on us will not be destroyed," he said, noting that "this policy will continue."

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – MAY 23, 2018: BIGGEST ISIS ATTACK NEAR PALMYRA IN PAST FEW MONTHS

On May 22, ISIS attacked positions of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) near the T3 pumping station, near the city of Palmyra, in the province of Homs. The attack started with the explosion of a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device. Then, ISIS infantry stormed the SAA positions. However, the advance was repelled.

According to pro-government sources, at least 16 SAA soldiers were killed, 14 others were injured and a few vehicles were damaged or destroyed. Pro-militant sources claim that the number of killed soldiers was at least 30.

These were probably the biggest ISIS attacks on government positions since the formal defeat of ISIS in the Euphrates Valley. ISIS units in the Homs-Deir Ezzor desert are still a notable security threat.

Considering that a group of the ISIS terrorists evacuated from southern Damascus will likely end up route in this desert area. The security threat will grow even further.

Syrian government declares capital fully under its control, Daesh ousted

Syria’s military on Monday captured an enclave in southern Damascus from Daesh militants following a ruinous monthlong battle, bringing the entire capital and its far-flung suburbs under full government control for the first time since the civil war began in 2011.
The gains freed President Bashar Assad’s forces to move with allied militiamen on remaining rebel-held territory in the south near the border with Israel, as Syria’s chief ally Iran comes under growing pressure from the Trump administration to withdraw its troops from the country.
Iranian-backed militias, including the Lebanese group Hezbollah, have been instrumental in helping Assad’s over-stretched forces recapture huge areas around Damascus and in the country’s center and north, building a military presence that has alarmed Israel and its US ally, which is now looking to constrain Iran’s activities.

NETANYAHU ORDERS CABINET MEET IN SECRET UNDERGROUND BUNKER, FEARS LEAKS ON SYRIA AND IRAN

In yet another sign that broader war between Israel, Syria, and Iran may be on the horizon Israel’s Channel 10 has revealed in an exclusive broadcast that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently ordered all national security cabinet meetings to be held in a secure underground bunker in Jerusalem.

The National Security Cabinet (NSC), also known as the “inner cabinet,” is akin to the US National Security Council and convenes regularly under the authority of the prime minister in the Prime Minister’s building in Jerusalem. However, according to Channel 10’s Barak Ravid, who broke the story, Netanyahu made the decision out of fear of leaks related to “sensitive discussions on Syria and Iran.”

The underground secure Jerusalem bunker normally hosts the National Crisis Management Center, responsible for emergency planning and response during times of war or national crises.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder if the location of these meetings have been moved due to Netanyahu's determination to wage war against all three of these countries, with US military assistance, and quickly.

Public opinion in the US does not augur well for Israel doing this, so Netanyahu may well feel that Israel must move swiftly, to avoid a groundswell of US popular resistance to such actions.
