House Votes to Repeal 2002 AUMF, Rein in Trump on Iran War

On Thursday afternoon, the House of Representatives passed a pair of amendments aimed at curtailing President Trump’s war-making ability, particularly as it relates to attacking Iran. The amendments were added to the WW2 Merchant Mariner Gold Medal Act.

The first amendment, passed 228-175, noted that no military action against Iran could take place without prior Congressional authorization. Four Republicans joined most Democrats in voting for the measure, 21 abstained. Though this is legally speaking always the case, recent presidents have claimed the ability to start unilateral wars when Congress doesn’t explicitly preclude them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It's bloody well time for the US Congress to show some spine, and not be enablers of these wars without end.

The United States: a Record-Holder in Political Assassinations

The crowing by Donald Trump that he “terminated” the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Quds Force, Major General Qaseem Soleimani, simply because Trump believed, mobster-style, that he had it coming, should remind the world that the United States government stands as the world’s record-holder in either directly carrying out or coordinating with other parties the assassination of political leaders, American and foreign.

EU Army Ambitions Crushed As German Troops Forced To Use Their Own Cars In War Drills

French President Emmanuel Macron has routinely boasted about the creation of a powerful EU Army, but Macron's 'Napoleonic' ambitions may have run into a major issue with the German military falling apart.

The latest report exposes how a major war exercise, which started last Thursday across Europe, had German troops using their own vehicles because of a shortage of infantry tanks as many were in disrepair.

Turkey Deploys Warships, Air Defenses & Heavy Armor To Libya

Via AlMasdarNews.com,

The Libyan National Army (LNA) announced that Turkey had deployed two Turkish warships, anti-aircraft missiles and air defense systems to the capital city of Tripoli.

In addition to this accusation, the LNA said the Turkish military sent at least 3,000 Syrian militants to Libya since late December.

“The number of Syrian mercenaries transported by Turkey to Libya exceeded three thousand,” the Libyan National Army spokesman, Major General Ahmed al-Mesmari said at a press conference yesterday evening, noting that “Ankara transported dangerous terrorists from Syria to Libya through the Misrata and Mitiga airports and Port of Tripoli.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

I think that Edrodan has an agenda here, other than defeating Haftar's forces, and it very much has to do with Libyan oil.

FLASHBACK: How Many Millions Have Been Killed in America’s Post-9/11 Wars?

March 23rd, 2018

By Nicolas J.S. Davies

How many people have been killed in America’s post-9/11 wars? I have been researching and writing about that question since soon after the U.S. launched these wars, which it has tried to justify as a response to terrorist crimes that killed 2,996 people in the U.S. on September 11th 2001.

But no crime, however horrific, can justify wars on countries and people who were not responsible for the crime committed, as former Nuremberg prosecutor Ben Ferencz patiently explained to NPR at the time......

Evangelicals Love Donald Trump for Many Reasons, But One of Them Is Especially Terrifying

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who was reportedly instrumental in pushing for the killing of Soleimani, is also a master of such messaging. In March, during an interview in Jerusalem with the Christian Broadcasting Network (founded by another apocalyptic preacher, Pat Robertson), Pompeo showed his familiarity with another Iran-centric Bible story popular with End Times evangelicals. In the story, a Persian king is urged to slaughter the Jews in his kingdom at the urging of the evil adviser Haman. But his Jewish Queen Esther convinces him not to and saves her people. Asked whether he thought Trump could be a modern-day Esther, saving the Jews from Iran, Pompeo replied, “As a Christian, I certainly believe that’s possible.” The secretary of state’s End Times beliefs made headlines again after the Soleimani killing, as meme-makers circulated a quote from a speech he made in a Kansas church in 2015.

Pentagon reveals F-35 Lightning's guns don't shoot straight and are cracking in scathing report that demands Lockheed Martin fix 873 flaws on $100million stealth fighter jet

By KEITH GRIFFITH FOR DAILYMAIL.COM

The F-35 Lightning II's problems include hundreds of software vulnerabilities and guns that don't shoot straight, according to a new Pentagon report on issues with Lockheed Martin's $428 billion program.

Air Force models of the F-35 use an internally mounted 25mm Gatling gun that has 'unacceptable' accuracy due to 'misalignments,' according to an upcoming report from the Pentagon's test office obtained by Bloomberg.

The mounts on the guns are also cracking, forcing the Air Force to restrict use of the gun, the report says.

The Marine and Navy versions of the Joint Strike Fighter use an externally mounted version of the gun that does not have the same issues, according to the report.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If THIS is the best Lockheed Martin can do for our military, then this country's military is going to be in deep trouble, if there is any kind of confrontation with Russia or China, because much of their technology is already light-years ahead of that of US forces.

‘There is no occupation’: US compares its military in Germany to Israel in Palestine

Israeli soldiers patrolling a future Palestinian state should not be considered occupying powers, according to David Friedman.

The US ambassador to Israel, who is closely aligned to the Israeli settlement enterprise, suggested that US troops patrolling cities is various parts of the world were no different to Israeli troops walking the streets of Palestine.

“The United States has military presence all over the world. We have presence in Germany, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, I mean…none of those countries consider themselves occupied by the United States and certainly don’t consider ourselves to be occupiers,” said Friedman.

‘Wave of Anti-Semitism’ Exaggerated

Most “anti-Semitic attacks” are shouting matches between Israel lovers and critics.

By Phil Giraldi

One of the few growth industries in Donald Trump’s United States is the protection of Jewish citizens and their property from a largely contrived wave of anti-Semitism that is allegedly sweeping the nation. Even while potentially catastrophic developments in the Middle East continue to unfold, the threat of anti-Semitism continues to dominate much of the news cycle in the mainstream media.

The Nasty Secret Behind Aramco, ISIS and Trump in Syria

Makes sense now. Syria has more oil and natural gas than you can shake a stick at. New discoveries. New fields.

The Saudi Arabian oil company, Aramco, is now hiring oil workers throughout Deir Ezzor Province inside Syria as part of a joint effort, nominally with an unknown American entity and with full partnership with both ISIS and the United States Army.

Thousands of unemployed Syrian engineers and oil workers are being asked to apply for jobs paying $3000 per month.

No one knows who they will be working for. This is the story we will be examining, how it began and where it is going now.

In 2017, soon after Trump took office, Aramco, the Saudi owned oil conglomerate, opened offices in Deir Ezzor province in Syria.

Under the protection of both ISIS and the United States Army, Aramco began an exploration of 12 new oil and gas deposits recognized by American SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) military satellites, retasked for this purpose.

The Establishment Doesn’t Fear Trump, And It Doesn’t Fear Bernie. It Fears You.

I very seldom use the term deep state anymore, because its meaning in mainstream discourse has been completely corrupted. Now when I want to point to America’s permanent unelected power structures I usually use the word “oligarchy” or “empire”, or simply “establishment”.

Whenever I point out that the current administration has been advancing many longstanding agendas of the CIA and neoconservative war pigs–agendas like military expansionism, imprisoning Assange, regime change interventionism in Iran and Venezuela, and reigniting the Cold War–his supporters always come in saying “If he’s working for the establishment how come the establishment is working so hard to get rid of him, huh?”

Well, for starters, they’re not........

US military source says there were NO CIA staff on Afghanistan crash jet after Iranian media claimed officer 'behind Soleimani's death' was among those killed

A US military source today said there were no CIA staff on a jet which crashed in Afghanistan on Monday after Iranian media claimed the officer behind Qassem Soleimani's death was among those killed.

The source told the MailOnline the wild claim that Michael D'Andrea was aboard the jet which crashed in Dih Yak, or indeed that any CIA members had been killed, was absurd.

A US official earlier confirmed the bodies of two American personnel had been recovered from the crash site while denying Taliban claims the E-11A communications jet containing 'high ranking officers' had been shot down.

1/24/20 Stephen Zunes: Today’s US-Iran Crisis Is Rooted in the Decision to Invade Iraq

Podcast with links to several stories.

Stephen Zunes discusses the catastrophic mistake of the U.S. plan to invade Iraq, then “divide and rule” along sectarian lines. Zunes says that although the relationship between Iran and the Iraqi Shiite government is a problem for those who worry about Iranian influence in the Middle East, the irony that everyone seems to have forgotten is that it was the Bush Administration that overthrew the Sunni government there in the first place, essentially fighting against Saddam Hussein on behalf of Iran. Moreover, the only real threat from Iran is to the American soldiers who are there on foreign soil fighting a war we started. We would be far better off if we had just stayed away, a message that Zunes says nearly every Middle East scholar in America could have told you in 2001.

Virginia Democrats Propose Banning Criticism of Government Officials

The proposal to stamp out free speech is buried in a package of amendments to the state code that at first glance seem innocent enough, and would severely punish threats of death and physical harm to the governor, and, again, other state officials.

Time for Congress to end undeclared wars and bring troops home

President George Washington was unambiguous: "It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliance with any portion of the foreign world."

President Jefferson was equally explicit: "Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none."

President Monroe formalized that policy. The Monroe Doctrine's first point stated the U.S. wouldn't interfere in the internal affairs or wars of other nations.

Section 8 of the Constitution makes clear: only "Congress shall have the power to declare war."

China’s New Coronavirus: An Examination of the Facts

Notable is that while SARS spread to about 40 countries, the infections in most countries were few and deaths almost zero, and it was exclusively (or almost exclusively) Chinese who were infected, those in Hong Kong most seriously, with Mainland China suffering little by comparison.
This appears to be precisely the case with this new virus, in that most of the infected persons (sofar) are Chinese. News reports speak of infections appearing in Thailand or the US, but those (at least to date of writing) were all Chinese who had been to Wuhan. There have been no cases so far of infected Caucasians.
.
As with SARS, this new virus appears to be tightly-focused to Chinese. At this stage it is too early to draw specific conclusions.

A mental health charity for military veterans is no longer able to take on new cases in England or Wales because of a funding crisis.

The worst mistake that the American people have made in the entire history of the United States was to permit the conversion of the federal government to a national-security state. That conversion has played a major role in the destruction of our liberty, privacy, and economic well-being.

What is a national-security state? It is a totalitarian-like governmental structure that consists of an enormous military-intelligence establishment with extraordinary powers, such as indefinite detention, torture, secret surveillance, and even assassination of both citizens and foreigners.

TEHRAN (FNA)- 16 US military men with fatal injuries sustained during Iran's retaliatory missile strikes on Ain Al-Assad base earlier this month have been taken to a hospital in camp Arifjan in Ahmed al-Jaber airbase in Kuwait, a leading Kuwaiti newspaper disclosed on Sunday.

The Arabic-language Al-Qabas paper quoted informed sources as saying on Sunday that the 16 US militaries, included some whose bodies had been severely burnt and some others who had sustained shrapnel wounds, have been transferred to a US military hospital in Kuwait under strict security measures.

It added that the wounded military men have gone under surgical operations and are still kept at the ICU section of the hospital.

According to the paper, several other US forces who had sustained mild injuries in Iran's missile strike are being treated in Iraq.

The US president and the Pentagon have both claimed that there has been no casualty in Iran's missile raid on Ain Al-Assad airbase.

Pentagon Now Says 34 US Soldiers Suffered Traumatic Brain Injuries In Iran Attack

n the latest major revelation contradicting the White House and Pentagon significantly downplayed casualty count regarding the Jan.8 Iranian ballistic missile attack on Ayn al-Asad airbase in Iraq, The New York Times is reporting that a total of 34 American soldiers have been diagnosed with serious head injuries ranging from concussion to traumatic brain injury.

Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman confirmed the much higher number Friday, after only a day ago the official toll stood at eleven after an initial Jan.17 statement, with at least eight of those which were considered serious enough to transport to a hospital in Germany. Hoffman said up to half of the 34 have already returned to their military duties, however, and 17 are still under medical observation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

(Sigh) will SOMEBODY please, politely explain to the President, that "headaches" are not in the bloody same league with traumatic brain injuries?!?

Donald Trump and Israel: When Does a ‘Passionate Attachment’ Threaten National Security?

Philip Giraldi

December 12, 2019
In his Farewell Address, of 1796 America’s first president George Washington famously warned his fellow citizens that “…a passionate attachment of one nation for another produces a variety of evils. Sympathy for the favorite nation, facilitating the illusion of an imaginary common interest in cases where no real common interest exists, and infusing into one the enmities of the other, betrays the former into a participation in the quarrels and wars of the latter without adequate inducement or justification.”

In today’s United States, there is no more “passionate attachment” than that which exists with Israel.

Is this what is going on behind the scene? The Yinon plan

“Greater Israel”: The Zionist Plan for the Middle East
The Infamous "Oded Yinon Plan". Introduction by Michel Chossudovsky

Introduction

The following document pertaining to the formation of “Greater Israel” constitutes the cornerstone of powerful Zionist factions within the current Netanyahu government, the Likud party, as well as within the Israeli military and intelligence establishment.

President Donald Trump has confirmed in no uncertain terms, his support of Israel’s illegal settlements (including his opposition to UN Security Council Resolution 2334, pertaining to the illegality of the Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank). In recent developments, the Trump administration has expressed its recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

“Greater Israel” will be part of the forthcoming March 2020 election campaign. Netanyahu has pledged to annex large parts of the occupied West Bank.

US seeking to carve out Sunni state as its influence in Iraq wanes

Our military has whored itself out to Israel. A Sunni Iraqi state and a Kurdish state. Break Iraq into 3 minor states which is the Israeli plan. More war.

Backed into a corner and influence waning, the United States has in recent weeks been promoting a plan to create an autonomous Sunni region in western Iraq, officials from both countries told Middle East Eye.

The US efforts, the officials say, come in response to Shia Iraqi parties’ attempts to expel American troops from their country.

Iraq represents a strategic land bridge between Iran and its allies in Syria, Lebanon and Palestine.

Ralph Northam: 'A Militia Assembling To Defend Their Rights Against Tyranny Is A Dangerous First In American History'

RICHMOND, VA—Governor Ralph Northam condemned the group of gun owners who assembled yesterday, calling the concept "simply un-American."

"A militia assembling to defend their rights against tyranny is a dangerous first in American history," he said to a group of reporters, still teary-eyed from the tragic lack of violence at yesterday's rally. "This is not what America was founded on. It is not what our forefathers would have wanted."

Dozens of US troops suffered traumatic brain injuries after Iran missile strikes

The Pentagon said Friday that 34 U.S. troops sustained traumatic brain injuries from Iran's retaliatory missile strikes earlier this month on Iraqi bases that house U.S. forces.

According to chief Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman, half of the troops have returned to active duty, but the other 17 remain under medical observation, The Associated Press reports.

Initially, President Trump said that no troops had been injured during the Jan. 8 attack. When reports of the head injuries surfaced, the president downplayed the severity of the trauma, referring to them as "headaches."

FLASHBACK: I am a Syrian Living in Syria: “It Was Never a Revolution nor a Civil War. The Terrorists Are Sent by Your Government”

Two years ago, “Majd” wrote these words on a Facebook posting:

” I am Syrian… living in Syria in the middle of everything. We have seen horrors. It was never a revolution nor a civil war. The terrorists are sent by your goverment. They are al Qaeda Jabhat al Nusra Wahhabi Salafists Talibans etc and the extremist jihadists sent by the West, the Saudis, Qatar and Turkey. Your Obama and whoever is behind him or above him are supporting al Qaeda and leading a proxy war on my country.

We thought you are against al Qaeda and now you support them.

The majority here loves Assad. He has never committed a crime against his own people… The chemical attack was staged by the terrorists helped by the USA and the UK, etc. Everyone knows that here.

Virginia Gun Rally Cheered By Ex Green Beret

But I don’t see the president of this country who took an oath to protect the Constitution stepping in.

Br Nathanael: What does Trump have to do with it?

Joe Cortina: Everything.

You’ve got Northam, Saslaw and Filler-Corn planning on committing HIGH treason ‘against the guts’ of our Constitution, namely the Second Amendment, and once that goes, tyranny and enslavement are inevitable.

Trump needs to denounce these traitors, specifically by name, and have the appropriate law enforcement agencies investigate them.

When Trump speaks in generalities like, ‘The Democrats want your guns,’ it’s only to make him look good to his USA! USA! crowd.

It is ALL traitors, not just Democrats—on both sides of the political aisle—who want our guns.

They must be called out BY NAME or we will have no security or freedom left to our Republic.

Iraqis march in 'millions' to call for expulsion of US troops

Iraqis have rallied in Baghdad in massive numbers to call for an end to US military presence in the country following high-profile assassinations and airstrikes targeting anti-terror forces.

Sayed Sadiq al-Hashemi, the director of the Iraqi Center for Studies, said more than 2.5 million took part in the demonstrations on Friday.

Since the early hours on Friday, huge crowds of men, women and children of all ages converged on the Jadriyah neighborhood near Baghdad University.

Trump Quietly Takes New Action Against Iran, Crushes Those Providing Concealed Support

The Trump administration quietly announced new crushing sanctions on Thursday against entities that have been providing concealed support to Iran, the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said, “Iran’s petrochemical and petroleum sectors are primary sources of funding for the Iranian regime’s global terrorist activities and enable its persistent use of violence against its own people.”

One of the entities sanctioned by the Trump administration was Triliance Petrochemical Co. Ltd., a Hong-Kong based broker with branches in Iran, United Arab Emirates, China, and Germany:

The other companies that were sanctioned were “Hong Kong-based Sage Energy HK Ltd.; Shanghai-based Peakview Industry Co.; and Dubai-based Beneathco DMCC,” according to The Wall Street Journal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why is Iran being singled out for this kind of treatment?!?

Because Israel wants to see it broken up into little mini-statelets, with no power, and its oil getting controlled by Israeli/US interests.

And can someone, please, tell me, just how President Trump is going to enforce this?!?

I would like to politely remind him, and the others who crafted these sanctions, that interdiction at sea is tantamount to an act of war.

Trump to release ‘great’ Israel peace plan ahead of Netanyahu visit, warns that Palestinians ‘may react negatively’

US President Donald Trump will finally unveil his ‘great’ plan for peace in the Middle East before Israeli leaders visit Washington next week. While the Palestinians may not like it, it will be good for them, Trump said.
Trump has long teased the existence of a plan that would resolve the long-running dispute between Israel and the Palestinians, reportedly developed by his son-in-law Jared Kushner. Its release, however, has been repeatedly delayed.

On the way to an event in Florida on Thursday, Trump told reporters on board Air Force One that he intends to make the plan public ahead of next week’s visit to Washington by Israel’s caretaker prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his chief rival Benny Gantz.

"It's a great plan," said Trump, "It's a plan that really would work."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, a word, please; I am having a palm to forehead moment, at warp speed, upon reading this.

And there is something which, in the most completely tone-deaf way possible, you, and your bff Netanyahu, cannot seem to grasp.

Because for Palestinians, this is not about economy; it is having a homeland of their own, with contiguous borders, which, with the current parsing out and planning of Jewish-only settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, can no longer happen.

A-10 Warthogs Elephant Walk In Show Of Force, Weeks After 52 Stealth Fighters Taxied Down Runway

The U.S. Air Force (USAF) conducted its second Elephant Walk within weeks, this time with ten Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II fighters at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, located in Harrison Township, Michigan, said Defense Blog.

Elephant walks are generally conducted right before a minimum interval takeoff (MITO), a technique used by USAF to scramble all jets to take off at twelve- and fifteen-second intervals.

The objective of the exercise is to get all fighters and bombers in the air within fifteen minutes of an alert of an incoming missile attack.

Defense Blog noted that an Elephant Walk "is a fundamental training element when preparing for global strike missions."

The 127th Wing's motto is "We Stand Ready," as the latest training exercise suggests the A-10s could be preparing for combat in the Middle East.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have to wonder; was this exercise more for domestic, or international consumption?!?

Were I a betting woman, I would bet on the former, rather than the latter, because I am sure that Iran, working with Russian intelligence, has a pretty decent grip on the US's military resources.

Just please remember; in pushing for a war against Iran, the US is also pushing for a war against Russia.

US To Deploy Anti-Missile Systems In Iraq As Trump Downplays Troop Injuries As "Headaches"

President Trump was dismissive of widespread reports of eleven US soldiers sustaining head injuries as a result of the Jan.8 Iranian ballistic missile attack on Ayn al-Asad airbase in Iraq. At least eight had been airlifted to a medical facility in Germany for possible "traumatic brain injuries", which the Pentagon and administration kept mum about in the days following.

While fielding questions at Davos on Wednesday, Trump downplayed what he likened as mere “headaches” when pressed about the issue and the administration's evolving narrative, which initially emphasized "no US casualties" as a result of the Iranian attack.

Trump explained at the news conference his view that the injuries were “not very serious,” and added that “I heard they had headaches.” This prompted some veterans groups to reportedly say Trump is “somewhat out of touch” with the seriousness of it.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would imagine that the anti-aircraft defenses would not be desired, if some sort of false flag was wanted (most probably crafted by Mossad) to demonise Iran, as the "justification" for a war against it.

But there is one interesting bit which seems to be missing from this article, and that is the timing of the arrival of these missiles.

Libya's Haftar Threatens To Target Civilian Planes, Declares Blanket 'No Fly Zone'

With the world's attention focused on the Coronavirus outbreak and to a lesser extent on Trump's impeachment trial, the war in Libya just got a lot more scary in terms of the potential for mass civilian death.

Incredibly, Gen. Khalifa Haftar's Libyan National Army (LNA) just threatened to shoot down civilian planes after days ago declaring a 'no fly zone' over Tripoli following increased Turkish intervention. The BBC reports the unambiguous and shocking declaration as follows:

Gen Haftar's spokesman, Ahmad al-Mesmari, said in a statement on Wednesday that "any military or civilian aircraft, regardless of its affiliation, flying over the capital will be destroyed".

Webmaster's Commentary:

It looks as though a lot more people are going to die, courtesy of the assassination of Ghadaffi back in 2011..

Of course, no one wants to talk about his being about ready to introduce a new currency, a gold-backed dinar, which could have unified the African economy, and thrown the US dollar into an horrific decline.

The Empire's War On Oppositional Journalism Continues To Escalate

Authored by Caitlin Johnstone via Medium.com,

Journalist Glenn Greenwald has been charged by the Bolsonaro government in Brazil with the same prosecutorial angle used by the US to target WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

Citing intercepted messages between Mr. Greenwald and the hackers, prosecutors say the journalist played a “clear role in facilitating the commission of a crime.”

For instance, prosecutors contend that Mr. Greenwald encouraged the hackers to delete archives that had already been shared with The Intercept Brasil, in order to cover their tracks.

Prosecutors also say that Mr. Greenwald was communicating with the hackers while they were actively monitoring private chats on Telegram, a messaging app. The complaint charged six other individuals, including four who were detained last year in connection with the cellphone hacking.

Turkey Demands Greece "Demilitarize" 16 Aegean Islands Amid Gas Drilling Dispute

At a moment tensions are soaring over Turkey's expansive East Mediterranean claims, and after starting early last summer it began sending oil and gas exploration and drilling ships off Cyprus' coast, Ankara is demanding that Greece “demilitarize” its islands in the Aegean Sea, reports Bloomberg.

The demand from Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, who formally requested Greece move to withdraw armed forces and weaponry from 16 Aegean islands near Turkey on Wednesday, is rich given it's Turkey that's been provocatively sending warships and military jets to accompany illegal gas drilling in the area, something lately condemned by the EU.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This could get very ugly, very quickly; I would like to hope that some of the adults in the room in NATO, to which both countries belong, can have a quiet conversation with Greek and Turkish officials about not resorting to a military "brass knuckles" approach in resolving this issue.

By Stephen Lendman

Last December, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said “(t)he Americans…are feeding Daesh, encourag(ing) them, protect(ing) Daesh leaders and help(ing) them move from one area to another.”

At the same time, an unnamed Iraqi official accused the Pentagon of supplying Daesh terrorists in the country with weapons and military equipment.

“The American forces send aid from their bases to the Daesh terrorists in the Makhoul mountains, and their assistance still continues,” the official stressed, adding:

“Iraqi forces seized US weapons during an operation against terrorists in al-Hazar island. US military bases in Iraq are used against the host country and Syria.”

America Escalates its “Democratic” Oil War in the Near East

by Michael Hudson exclusively for the Saker Blog

The mainstream media are carefully sidestepping the method behind America’s seeming madness in assassinating Islamic Revolutionary Guard general Qassim Suleimani to start the New Year. The logic behind the assassination this was a long-standing application of U.S. global policy, not just a personality quirk of Donald Trump’s impulsive action. His assassination of Iranian military leader Suleimani was indeed a unilateral act of war in violation of international law, but it was a logical step in a long-standing U.S. strategy. It was explicitly authorized by the Senate in the funding bill for the Pentagon that it passed last year.

Russia would annihilate US in a nuclear war

by Jonas E. Alexis

Oliver Stone once again should be commended for asking Vladimir Putin thought-provoking questions. Back in 2017, Stone asked Putin: “In a hot war is the US dominant?” Without hesitation, Putin responded: “I don’t think anyone would survive such a conflict.”

In other words, the Neocons, the war machine, ethnic cleansers in the Middle East, and probably even Donald Trump would not survive a nuclear war with Russia. That means that if Trump is even thinking about attacking Russia, then he is digging his own grave.

Politicians in the United States, said Putin, have been living in a crazy or diabolical world since the beginning of time.

Trump’s Katyusha Conundrum

Katyushas are short-range, unguided artillery rockets typically fired in salvos from truck-mounted launch-tubes. Iraq’s insurgents deploy three types.

The smallest is 107 millimeters in diameter and 1 meter long. Its 19 kilogram weight includes an 8 kg high-explosive, shrapnel-bearing warhead. The 107mm is often fired from a 12-tube launcher, however, infantry-portable single-tube tripods are common. An experienced crew with a standardized weapon can hit a 400 X 400 meter target from 8 kilometers away. During the Vietnam War the US Army considered the 107mm to be their adversaries’ most formidable weapon.

The 122mm ‘Grad’ Katyusha is 3 meters long and weighs 75 kg. Its warhead spans a third of its length and weighs 18 kg. It has a 20-kilometer range and a 30-meter lethal radius.

220mm Katyushas hurl 100 kg warheads 30 kilometers.

True causes of the Uncivil War: Understanding the Morrill Tariff

By Mike Scruggs

Most Americans believe the U. S. “Civil War” was over slavery. They have to an enormous degree been miseducated. The means and timing of handling the slavery question were at issue, although not in the overly simplified moral sense that lives in postwar and modern propaganda. But had there been no Morrill Tariff there might never have been a war. The conflict that cost of the lives of 650,000 Union and Confederate soldiers and perhaps as many as 50,000 Southern civilians and impoverished many millions for generations might never have been.

A smoldering issue of unjust taxation that enriched Northern manufacturing states and exploited the agricultural South was fanned to a furious blaze in 1860. It was the Morrill Tariff that stirred the smoldering embers of regional mistrust and ignited the fires of Secession in the South. This precipitated a Northern reaction and call to arms that would engulf the nation in the flames of war for four years.
