Just 56% of Americans can name all three branches of government — a 15-year high!

Moreover, following a divisive impeachment trial, contentious election, multiple court battles, and deadly riot at the Capitol, Americans have come out of the last year with a great understanding of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Three-quarters of the poll (74%) correctly stated that the First Amendment protects the freedom of speech. However, fewer respondents knew it also protects the freedom of religion (56%), freedom of the press (50%), the right to assembly (30%), or the right to petition (20%).

Minneapolis school goes remote over encampment concerns

A Minneapolis high school has switched to virtual learning and moved some classes off-site because of safety concerns after an encampment sprung up on school property this summer.

Volunteers of America High School, an alternative school of about 85 students near the intersection of East Franklin Avenue and Cedar Avenue, will continue holding virtual and off-site classes until they are “assured of the physical and emotional safety of both students and staff,” said Julie Manworren, president and CEO of Volunteers of America Minnesota and Wisconsin, in a statement to the Reformer.

“For many months, we have been reaching out to law enforcement, city, county and state officials as well as our community partners in the neighborhood, sharing information and making them aware of the needs of our students and staff,” Manworren said. “While we are frustrated by the increasing violence and lawlessness around our school building, we remain hopeful for a shared solution.”

3 U.S. Teachers Awarded $185 Million from Monsanto for Chemical Exposure

(Herald Net) – Three Monroe public school teachers have been awarded $185 million in damages after a King County Superior Court jury found the chemical company Monsanto was responsible for health issues caused by exposure to toxic chemicals in fluorescent lights.

The teachers, who worked at the Sky Valley Education Center in Monroe, said they suffered brain damage from exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs, in the fluorescent light fixtures at the school, according to The Associated Press.

“This is a big step in holding Monsanto accountable for poisoning every man, woman and child in North America,” Rick Friedman, one of the attorneys representing the women, said in a statement. “If politicians won’t make Monsanto clean up its mess, juries will.”...

Massachusetts Activates National Guard To Bus School Children After Vax Mandate Staffing Shortages

Amid fresh national, state and local vaccine mandates being driven forward by the Biden administration, schools and public services have clearly been most immediately hit by personnel shortages as a large chunk of the population remains 'vaccine hesitant' - or refuses to be forced into a mandated Covid vaccine, or perhaps are also already immune through a prior infection. Other staff are said to fear catching coronavirus from the largely unvaccinated student population.

States like Massachusetts are now struggling with public school staffing shortages to the point that children literally can no longer take the bus to school as there aren't enough drivers. The large school district of Boston, for example, admitted at the start of the school year that the vaccine requirement would inevitably result in drivers staying home. "City leaders say part of the reason for the shortage in Boston is that some drivers are not vaccinated, which is a requirement," a local report underscored.

If you do things well and in a timely manner, you’re guilty of “white supremacy,” says Colorado University

According to presentation slides obtained by the outlet, the curriculum includes “Anti-racist pedagogy and decolonizing the classroom,” which is taught by a professor named Becca Ciancanelli. Materials for the class include a slide listing “perfectionism,” “sense of urgency,” “quantity over quality,” and “individualism” as “Cultural norms of White Supremacy.” -- Keep in mind that our founders envisioned strong states led by a decentralized federal government because they valued rugged individualism over the collectivism of a powerful overarching authoritarian state — so that should give you a better idea about the kind of people these leftists are.

Journalism Schools Produce 'Useless' Degrees, Leaving Graduates Deep In Debt

The WSJ's education reporters have been on a roll lately, publishing a deeply reported series of stories about the unintended consequences of the fact that there's no lending cap on the federal government's "Grad Plus" student loan program. By allowing students with little to no income to borrow unlimited funds to further their education in the graduate domain (while leaving taxpayers on the hook for losses), pricey graduate degree programs have proliferated like the clap. And surprisingly, only a small fraction of these programs allow the average graduate to comfortably pay off their loans without financial help from their parents.

Harvard's $42 Billion Endowment Says It Will Stop Investing In Fossil Fuels

It isn't just ETFs that are rebranding as ESG - now, Harvard's is foregoing potential hefty dividends and gains in the oil and gas industry to be able to slap the ESG title on the college's $42 billion endowment, which said this week it would stop investing in fossil fuels.

The school said it'll use its endowment to "support the green economy", according to Yahoo and Bloomberg.

We guess it's a good thing that generating free cash flow isn't important anymore.

The fund's manager, Harvard Management Co., "does not intend to make such investments in the future” and currently has no oil and gas exposure, according to President Larry Bacow.

The fund is making the change after what Bloomberg calls "years of sustained activism from students calling for fossil-fuel divestment".

College Textbook Says People Who Oppose Lockdowns Caused COVID Deaths

A textbook assigned as required reading at a North Carolina community college is loaded with assertions that anyone opposing lockdowns and masking is directly to blame for COVID deaths and the spread of the virus.

Campus Reform obtained a copy of the document, which states that the severe restrictions imposed by the Biden government “saved tens of thousands of lives” and that Americans who flout them should be held responsible, despite scientific research that has found lockdowns will actually cause millions of excess deaths.

A passage in the book reads “Most Americans responded to the pandemic by limiting their social contact, covering their faces when going out, and washing their hands thoroughly after they did,” adding “yet lives were lost because some Americans held beliefs that were at odds with the facts.”

Chicago, Portland, Louisville mayors appear to back CRT in schools before names removed from sponsors list

The mayors of four major cities appeared to back a resolution adopted by the U.S. Conference of Mayors supporting critical race theory, or CRT, in public K-12 schools before their names were suddenly removed from a list of sponsors.

The resolution adopted by the Conference of Mayors, which describes itself as a "non-partisan organization of cities with a population of 30,000 or larger," initially listed the following four mayoral sponsors: Louisville, Kentucky, Mayor Greg Fischer; Boise, Idaho, Mayor Lauren McLean; Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot; and Portland, Oregon, Mayor Ted Wheeler, as seen in a Wednesday screenshot posted to Twitter by CRT critic and journalist Christopher Rufo.

By Thursday morning, however, all four mayors' names had disappeared from the resolution stating that "the nation's mayors support the implementation of CRT in the public education curriculum to help engage our youth in programming that reflects an accurate, complete account of BIPOC history…"

God & National Anthem Not Allowed In Schools, But This Is Encouraged?

California's Board of Education was hit with a lawsuit for making kids chant and pray to Aztec gods in their curriculum.

A group of concerned parents and a third-party foundation in San Diego have launched a lawsuit against California’s education leadership for forcing children to exercise ancient religions in the school curriculum.

The foundation in charge of the suit is the offshoot of a ballot measure committee created to defeat last year’s Proposition 16 that would have allowed employers, universities and other agencies to consider race, gender, ethnicity, and country of origin in hiring, enrollment, and contracting decisions. It would have overturned Proposition 209, which ended affirmative action in public education, employment, and contracting in 1996.

The Frankfurt School and Critical Theory

The Frankfurt School, known more appropriately as Critical Theory, is a philosophical and sociological movement spread across many universities around the world. It was originally located at the Institute for Social Research (Institut für Sozialforschung), an attached institute at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. The Institute was founded in 1923 thanks to a donation by Felix Weil with the aim of developing Marxist studies in Germany. After 1933, the Nazis forced its closure, and the Institute was moved to the United States where it found hospitality at Columbia University in New York City.

The Downsides of Masking Young Students Are Real

Scientists have an obligation to strive for honesty. And on the question of whether kids should wear masks in schools—particularly preschools and elementary schools—here is what I conclude: The potential educational harms of mandatory-masking policies are much more firmly established, at least at this point, than their possible benefits in stopping the spread of COVID-19 in schools. To justify continued masking of schoolkids—with no end date in sight—we have to prove that masks benefit kids, and at what ages. States and communities that are considering masking policies just to be safe should recognize that being overly cautious has a cost, while the benefits are uncertain.

Profs: Princeton diversity office’s ‘nihilistic’ attack on university’s history and anti-woke dissidents

As members of the class of 2025 arrive on campus, they receive a mandatory injection not of a vaccine against COVID, but of indoctrination.

An official video freshmen are required to watch presents an utterly one-sided and negative picture of Princeton’s history. The video and the accompanying Web site are expensively produced. Yet slick production values do nothing to offset the tendentious slant.

The video/site includes a two-minute discourse in which classics professor Dan-el Padilla Peralta characterizes free speech as a “privilege,” rather than a right, and in which he disparages the speech of others with whom he disagrees as “masculine-ized bravado.” Padilla Peralta goes on to extol “free speech and intellectual discourse that is [sic] flexed to one specific aim, and that aim is the promotion of social justice, and an anti-racist social justice at that.”

Battle over critical race theory may end up leading the US to civil war. Privatizing all schools is a solution

The only way to reduce tensions on whether critical race theory should be taught to American children is privatizing all schools. This won’t stop infighting completely but at least each side will be somewhat accommodated.

Some parents maintain that the US is a racist country and if it has any chance whatsoever of turning this around, CRT must be part of our educational system. Merely avoiding the subject is itself racist they aver, and that should not be tolerated.

Others, equally adamant, take the opposite position. In their perspective, CRT is itself racist; it takes on the key aspects of communism to boot. Over their dead bodies should their precious young children be subjected to such an evil abomination, they say.

My own viewpoint is the latter. However, I am not now concerned with the substantive merits of CRT, one way or the other. Instead, I approach this issue with the goal of reducing tensions. I want to point to a compromise.

Homeschooling reaches critical mass

The number of U.S. kids who are homeschooled has nearly doubled during the pandemic.

Why it matters: Some parents have lost faith in traditional schools, others fear exposing their kids to the coronavirus — and the broad exodus could further weaken America's struggling public education system.

By the numbers: Nearly 2.6 million kids have switched from traditional school to homeschooling since the pandemic began, according to a new report from the Bellwether Education Partners, commissioned by the Walton Family Foundation.

Now the total number of homeschooled kids sits at about 5 million. According to census data, more than 11% of U.S. households are now homeschooling.
And it's not just white families who are moving to homeschooling: 9.7% of white families with kids have pulled out of traditional education, as have 12.1% of Hispanic families, 8.8% of Asian families and 16.1% of Black families.

A Positive Trend – “Homeschool Interest In Texas Jumps 5 Fold From 2020 Record”

By Nicholas West

As I wrote in last month’s newsletter, one of the key ways we can take control over our personal supply chain of information is to homeschool. In so doing, we can promote both the physical and the mental health of future generations:

"One of the benefits occurring right now amid all of the tragedy is that parents who might previously have been resistant to homeschool are taking their children out of a system that is literally torturing them through oxygen deprivation and forced medicine, a prison-like system of surveillance and control, and outlandish politicizing of every facet of their learning. Through homeschooling, we can create a supply chain of information that is both resistant to mental disruption, while creating resilient patterns of behavior that will remain consistent with individual freedom far into the future."

One staff member for the Lieutenant Governor’s office, commenting on the size of the report, said CRT in North Carolina’s schools was a “way bigger problem than we thought.”

According to the North State Journal, Robinson formed the Fairness and Accountability in the Classroom for Teachers and Students (FACTS) task force in March of this year to root out and reverse politically biased teaching in North Carolina schools. In a press conference on August 24, Robinson, a Republican who became North Carolina’s first black lieutenant governor in November 2020, said the goal was to determine whether political indoctrination was occurring in schools across the state, to which he answered emphatically, “Yes, yes it is.”

“Pledge to Teach the Truth: Despite New State Bills Against It.”: THOUSANDS Of Teachers Across America Sign Pledge To Violate Law And Teach Critical Race Theory

Thousands of teachers have pledged to violate the law and indoctrinate children on critical race theory, regardless of whether or not the law prohibits it.

We all know what critical race theory does. It teaches students of color to hate white students, and white students to look down upon students of color. It only seeks to divide the masses.

Stanford Law Students Issue Guide To Dismantle ‘Patriarchal Racial Colonial Capitalism’

Law students at Stanford University are using their status and prestige to tell “radical” first-year students that it is hip to destroy America.

The Stanford National Lawyers Guild (NLG), a group at Stanford Law School comprised of left-wing students seeking to “challenge systemic criminalization and marginalization of people of color,” sent the first-years a guide to how to persist while learning “how evil the US legal system is.” The group claims the top-tier law school is full of “compromised ideologies” such as an “obsession and focus on ‘national security’ to serve xenophobic interests.”

UC freezes safety officer hiring until campuses submit ‘holistic, inclusive’ plan

University of California’s new Community Safety Plan shifts major responsibilities and funding away from UC Police Departments.

The plan, based on an 80-page report released this summer by the Department of Public Safety Community Advisory Board, was announced by UC President Michael Drake last week and will be implemented across all 10 campuses. It reflects UC’s “commitment to equity and social justice.”

“Under this new model, a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals, campus police, social service providers, police accountability boards and other personnel will work together to prioritize the well-being of the entire UC community,” Drake said in a message to the university. “This reimagined structure will ensure that the m,ost appropriate responders are deployed to meet our community’s specific needs with tailored care resources and services.”

Teacher With Medical Exemption Axed For Not Wearing A Mask

Today was the first day of school for teachers... and quite possibly the last day of school for this teacher.

I have been a teacher for over 12 years, and it has been the joy of my life to make a difference every single day with young people of all ages, races, and backgrounds.

I have taught Spanish, ESOL, and currently I am working as a special education teacher in one of the largest counties in the United States.

Today, I made the decision to go to work with a smile on my face instead of a mask.

To my surprise, I was greeted with hugs by several co-workers which helped to melt away some of the initial fear and anxiety that I had upon entering.

I decided to skip the breakfast where everyone was eating... indoors... without a mask, and instead decided to use that time to pray.

We started our day with a meeting in the auditorium where a fellow teacher shared that this year we would be working on "creating brave spaces" - not just "safe spaces."

Who Benefits From Cancelling Achievement Standards?

In 2021 there’s an outright holy war against scholastic achievement.

Oregon has passed a bill that suspends the requirement that students must be able to read, write, and do math to graduate from high school.

Mathematics should be replaced, we are told, by “social justice” mathematics, in which there are no correct answers, and students must not be asked to show the calculations that led to their conclusions.

Standard American English should no longer be the standard, and students should not be judged on the quality of their writing. And recruitment of future scientists and science teachers and researchers should no longer be based on achievement, merit, and potential, but on “diversity, equity, and inclusion.”

University of Virginia Disenrolls 200+ Unvaccinated Students

The Virginia university disenrolled 238 unvaccinated prior to the start of classes today.

UVA’s COVID-19 policy has prohibited unvaccinated individuals from being on campus since July 1.

The University of Virginia disenrolled 238 students who failed to register as vaccinated just four days before the start of classes on Tuesday.

All students who are planning to return to school this fall were required to upload proof of vaccination, or documentation for a religious or medical exemption if they did not receive the COVID-19 shot...

NEA Opposes Vaccines for Teachers, But Mandates for Kids

While National Education Association President Becky Pringle recently told The Atlantic the organization backs "requiring vaccinations for all people who work with our students or submitting to regular testing," she is wary of issuing mandates, except perhaps when it comes to students being required to wear masks in school.

"We believe that all educators have the right to have a union that works with them and the district to keep our students and educators safe," Pringle said in an interview released last week. "Some employees will have to have accommodations. We know that is a reality. And so it is absolutely essential that educators and their representatives have the opportunity to have those kinds of conversations."

"The No. 1 thing is to keep our students safe," she added. "To do that, we have to follow the science."

The Dangers of Going Back to School After a Year of COVID-19 Lockdowns

By John W. Whitehead and Nisha Whitehead

“Every day in communities across the United States, children and adolescents spend the majority of their waking hours in schools that have increasingly come to resemble places of detention more than places of learning.”—Investigative journalist Annette Fuentes

Once upon a time in America, parents breathed a sigh of relief when their kids went back to school after a summer’s hiatus, content in the knowledge that for a good portion of the day their kids would be gainfully occupied, out of harm’s way and out of trouble.

University of Virginia disenrolls 238 students for not complying with vaccine requirement

The University of Virginia disenrolled 238 students ahead of its fall semester for noncompliance with the school’s COVID-19 vaccine requirement.

Of that number, 49 were enrolled in fall courses — meaning that “a good number” of the remaining students “may not have been planning to return to the University this fall at all,” U.Va. spokesperson Brian Coy said in an email to The Virginian-Pilot.

The students were disenrolled after “receiving multiple reminders via email, text, phone calls, calls to parents that they were out of compliance and had until yesterday to update their status,” Coy said.

Disenrolled students can reenroll if they comply with U.Va.’s vaccine requirement or file an exemption by Aug. 25. They can also return during the spring semester, provided they are vaccinated or exempt by then.

School Board Recall Attempts Surge in 2021 Amid COVID Closures & CRT Fears

As summer enters the final stretch and the fall school year is about to begin, the supposed quietest part of the year has been anything but for school boards across the country, according to Ballotpedia.

School board recalls, the process of removing a member or members of a school board from office through a petitioned election, have surged this summer to record-highs as schools are caught in the crosshairs of culture wars.

Many issues have parents across the country in an uproar, such as critical race theory (CRT), virus restrictions, and transgender rights. School officials have found themselves bombarded by angry parents who say CRT is poisoning the minds of their kids. In response, school board recall efforts are sweeping the country.

US to automatically wipe out over $5.8B in student loan debt

The Biden administration announced Thursday it will automatically erase student loan debt for more than 300,000 Americans with severe disabilities that leave them unable to earn significant incomes.

The move will wipe out more than $5.8 billion in debt, according to the Education Department, and it marks the start of a broader overhaul of a program that has been criticized for having overly burdensome rules.

“We’ve heard loud and clear from borrowers with disabilities and advocates about the need for this change and we are excited to follow through on it,” Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a statement.

The federal government offers student debt relief for people who are “totally and permanently disabled” and have limited incomes. But the current rules require them to submit documentation of their disability and undergo a three-year monitoring period to prove they’re earning little pay.

White liberals lowering education standards to ‘help’ black students are actually condemning them to be failures

Democrat Oregon governor Kate Brown has signed a bill that removes the need for graduating high school students to be proficient in reading, writing and maths. The objective: to help ‘students of colour.’ Yeah, right.

Call me old-fashioned, but in my day ‘helping’ students – of ANY colour – meant giving them a decent education, not treating them like lab rats in a massive social engineering experiment.

Putting her John Hancock on Senate Bill 744 on July 14, the 61-year-old gubernator neither issued a press release about the new legislation nor marked the occasion with a ceremony. Hmm… Instead, according to the Oregonian newspaper, the bill passed into law on the QT, and wasn’t even entered into a legislative database until two weeks after its signing, which is highly unusual, as bills are typically recorded on the same day that they’re signed.

Biden Education Department to Collect Massive School Civil Rights Data for ‘Equity’

The U.S. Education Department will collect massive amounts of school civil rights data for two consecutive years, rather than in alternate years, due to expressed concerns the Chinese coronavirus pandemic has negatively affected the Biden administration’s plan to make equity a central focus of public education.

Alabama State Board of Education officially bans Critical Race Theory teachings in public schools

The Alabama Board of Education (BOE) on Thursday voted to officially ban the teaching of Critical Race Theory (CRT) in state public schools. The resolution was passed along party lines, with all seven Republicans voting for its approval, while the board’s two lone Democrats voted against the measure.

The board-approved resolution is titled, “The preservation of intellectual freedom and non-discrimination in Alabama’s public schools.” Its opening line reads, “the Alabama State Board of Education believes that all individuals are endowed with equal inalienable rights, without respect to race or sex.”

It further states, “[C]oncepts that impute fault, blame, a tendency to oppress others, or the need to feel guilt or anguish to persons solely because of their race or sex violate the premises of individual rights, equal opportunity, and individual merit,” going on to say that the controversial concept has “no place” in the state’s “public educational system.”

Investigation: Medical Education And Research Crumbling Under Racial Identity Politics

We have covered many times how medical schools are not being spared the meritocracy purge in the name of racial identity politics.

We have focused on SUNY-Upstate Medical University, where we had to go to court to get them to turn over documents about their racial identity programming. That battle will continue because though the court ordered documents produced, the production we received is absurdly heavily redacted. For *some* reason, the administrators at SUNY-Upstate Medical University really don’t want the public to see what they are doing and how they got there.

It’s not just at SUNY-Upstate Medical. Critical Race activism is deeply embedded now throughout medical schools.

The iReady test is performed three times over the course of an academic year to track progress. In a reading assessment, out of nine students who finished it, only two scored at a high school level. Cambridge University Press Advocates For Bestiality.

The article’s abstract claims that bestiality is a “new form of animal advocacy” and relies on “queer theory” to make its argument. The article’s abstract states:

“In this essay, I draw the discourses around bestiality/zoophilia into the realm of queer theory in order to point to a new form of animal advocacy, something that might be called, in shorthand, loving animals. My argument is quite simple: if all interdicts against bestiality depend on a firm notion of exactly what sex is (and they do), and if queer theory disrupts that firm foundation by arguing that sexuality is impossible to define beforehand and pervades many different kinds of relations (and it does), then viewing bestiality in the frame of queer theory can give us another way to conceptualize the limitations of human exceptionalism. By focusing on transformative connections between humans and animals, a new form of animal advocacy emerges through the revolutionary power of love.”
