Israel Airstrikes Flatten 3 Gaza Buildings, Kill 42 As Netanyahu Says "War Will Go On"

The fourth war between Israel and Palestine escalated on Sunday when Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City flattened three buildings and killed at least 42 people, Palestinian medics said. Yet despite international efforts to broker a cease-fire and the rising death toll (mostly on the Palestinian side) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signaled the fourth war with Gaza’s Hamas rulers - which was sparked by unrest in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem, and has seen the death toll in the densely-populated Gaza Strip rise to 181, and to 10 in Israel - would rage on.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As part of that "growing chorus of sceptics", I am more than certain Netanyahu ordered this on-going attack as his "diversion" from his never-ending political scandals and the precarious state of the Knesset, post-election.

Look at the timing; a "hung Knesset", where no faction is able to cobble together a majority, and Netanyahu's legal woes are NOT going away any time soon. What better time to raid Al Aksa mosque, and rough up the worshippers?!? The timing, with an already suppressed, ticked-off (and for many good reasons) Palestinian population, couldn't have possibly been better, in Netanyahu's reasoning.

The timing stinks to high heaven.

In classical Greek mythology, hubris, translated as overweening pride, always triggering the downfall of someone who COULD have been a real hero.

In my world, Netanyahu is no hero for his people; he rules by fear, and loves to induce terror into the hearts of the Israeli people, deflecting any possibility of a morally honorable, or reasonable rapprochement with the Palestinians, and insures that any attempt to achieve this, is DOA.

I want to see a peaceful, thriving Israel, and a peaceful, thriving Palestine; unfortunately current leadership on both sides is preventing that from happening.

Both the Israeli and the Palestinian people, deserve better than this!!

Commanding officer dictates 'religious beliefs' to military chaplain

A military officer has decided, for a chaplain under his command, what his "religious beliefs" must be, a decision that is being challenged by First Liberty Institute as "wildly inappropriate and offensive."

The problem developed when a news "report" described how Joe Biden was planning to drop President Trump's "military transgender ban."

NATO pontiff cites Scripture for holy war against Russia and China

The North Atlantic prelate alluded to the story of Jesus’ multiplication of the fish and loaves in the four Gospels that is referred to as the Feeding of the 5,000, stating, with a quote from it, “The theme of this year’s conference is ‘schaut hin‘ – go and see….”

NATO didn’t record whether anyone in the audience invited him to go and see select bomb and missile craters in Serbia, Afghanistan and Libya.

He seemed quite pleased with himself in saying, “As the Latin saying goes, if you want peace, prepare for war.” He didn’t cite it in Latin, though, in which case it’s a Roman saying.

US could lose next war, said US Air Force Chief of Staff

On 7 May 2021, US Air Force Chief of Staff General Charles Q. Brown was called to testify before the House Defense Appropriations Sub-Committee.

The four-star general has been tapped to succeed General Mark Milley as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Brown made clear that the US Air Force has gradually lost its technological edge, pointing out in particular that the ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) systems have not been modernized for over 20 years.

He observed that China and Russia have studied the US wars since 9/11 and have concluded that the role of citizens is as important as that of the military.

More importantly, he indicated that in the event of a great war today, the United States would not be sure of winning it.

Sweden Receives First American Patriot Missiles as Part of Air Defence Upgrade

With a price tag of at least $1.2 billion in the first phase alone, this procurement is seen as being among Sweden's largest arms deals in modern history, if not the single-largest.

The first missiles for Sweden's new Patriot 103 air defence system have been delivered, Joakim Lewin, the responsible officer at the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has confirmed.

“We will receive further deliveries in 2021, 2022 and 2023,” Joakim Lewin, who oversees future projects, told national broadcaster SVT.

Israel is deliberately obliterating media buildings in Gaza to cover up the war crimes that will follow

The destruction of two important Gaza buildings housing 20 media outlets was both shocking and predictable. History shows that if the media aren’t around to document Israel’s war crimes, it’s a lot easier for it to commit them.
On Tuesday, Israel bombed the 10-storey Al-Jawhara Tower, causing it to collapse. Before doing so, it had ‘benevolently’ warned that the airstrikes were coming. The following day, it bombed the 14-storey Al-Shorouk Tower, also giving warning it was going to do so.

Most reports have the buildings as evacuated before being levelled. But without these media offices, reporting on Israel’s other war crimes will be left largely to what little media remain and citizen journalists.

Hamas Fires Iranian-Made Cruise Missiles for First Time, Five Israelis Killed

This places the latest escalation in violence in an entirely different context. No longer are we “merely” talking about Israel incitement against Israeli Palestinians over restrictions on access to their holy site, Haram al Sharif. Instead, Hamas has taken up the cause, broadening the conflict, possibly at the behest of Iran. The latter has many scores to settle with the Israelis: this includes key Israeli communication intercepts which permitted the US to locate and murder Qassem Soleimani; and even the assassination of the founder of the Iranian nuclear program, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

Iran has been itching for a fight.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Or, is it possible that members of Mossad, posing as Hamas, are using Israeli reverse-engineered missiles which look, and behave indentically to their Iranian counterparts, to be able to make the claim that they were Iranian, giving Israel the "alleged justification" for opening a war on a second front?

Is it Iran who really wants a war with Israel?!? Israeli government officials have been screaming forever, that the current form of the Iranian government needs to be taken out, and that Iran is an "existential threat" to Israel.

This article came out last Thursday; one wonders if internal/external Israeli poling have given Netanyahu's government the "traction", both domestically and internationally, it feels it needs to open a second front on this war agaisnt Gaza, this time against Iran.

Butting Heads with China and Russia: American Diplomats Are Outclassed

The recent exchanges between Secretary of State Tony Blinken and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at a meeting in Alaska demonstrate how Beijing has a clear view of its interests which Washington seems to lack. Blinken initiated the acrimonious exchange when he cited “deep concerns with actions by China, including in Xinjiang, Hong Kong, Taiwan, cyber attacks on the United States, economic coercion toward our allies. Each of these actions threaten the rules-based order that maintains global stability. That’s why they’re not merely internal matters, and why we feel an obligation to raise these issues here today.” He then threatened

Webmaster's Commentary:

Very sad, but quite true!!!!!

And for me, one of the most terrifying things about this is, that the war hawks appear to be firmly dictating US foreign policy right now.

War with China and or Russia should be seen as absolute non-starter for the US government; we don't have the troop strength; we don't have the manufacturing; we don't have competitive weapons, and we sure as HELL do not have the money to be pursuing Big Mistake Number 3.

Unfortunately, just because something is the most pig-headedly, ham-fistedly stupid the US government could possibly do, is absolutely no guarantee that the US will not do it.

The Air Force Wants to Give the F-22 Raptor an Early Retirement

The U.S. Air Force plans to consolidate its fighter force from seven current airframes to just four. The effort will include retiring the F-22 Raptor relatively early, but the good news is the Raptor will be replaced by the Air Force’s secret new fighter jet.

Today’s Air Force is made up of seven fighter types: the F-22 Raptor, F-15C/D Eagle, F-15E Strike Eagle, F-15EX Super Eagle, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, F-16 Fighting Falcon, and A-10 Thunderbolt. It’s a diverse menagerie of aircraft, from high-end air superiority fighters to close air support planes, some of which overlap in purpose.

Now, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. CQ Brown wants to shrink the number of fighter fleets from seven to just four, according to DefenseOne. Under the plan, the F-15C/D, F-15E, A-10, and F-22 would take one-way flights to the Boneyard. The F-15EX, F-35, and F-16 would all fly on, joined by a new air superiority fighter: Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD).

Rockets Fired At Israel From South Lebanon As Fears Grow Hezbollah To Enter Conflict

A big lingering unknown is whether Israel's powerful archenemy Hezbollah will open up a northern front to bog down Israel's military as it continues striking Gaza, and as preparations are underway for a potential Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) ground invasion into the Hamas-controlled strip.

Late Thursday at least three rockets were fired from southern Lebanon toward Israel, which the IDF military spokesman confirmed...

Given the rockets fired into northern Israel, the immediate question remains whether Hezbollah was responsible, and if the Shia paramilitary organization supported closely by Iran will initiate its own aggression. This would constitute a monumental escalation for Israel, assuring major regional war.

So far international reports are saying it's "unclear" who was responsible for the attack from Lebanon.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Or... could it have been Israeli military elements in Lebanon, attempting a "false flag" in order to justify an invasion of Lebanon?!?

If this is happening, expect it to get far worse, to justify the invasion; Israel desperately wants the Litani river, and will do nearly anything to be able to access that water....

Escobar: An Insider's View Of The Tragedy Of The US Deep State

Authored by Pepe Escobar via The Strategic Culture Foundation,

Henry Kissinger, 97, Henry the K. for those he keeps close, is either a Delphic oracle-style strategic thinker or a certified war criminal for those kept not so close...

At a recent forum in Arizona, referring to the festering, larger than life Sino-American clash, Henry the K. said,

“It’s the biggest problem for America; it’s the biggest problem for the world. Because if we can’t solve that, then the risk is that all over the world a kind of cold war will develop between China and the United States.”

In realpolitik terms, this “kind of Cold War” is already on; across the Beltway, China is unanimously regarded as the premier U.S. national security threat.

Kissinger added U.S. policy toward China must be a mix of stressing U.S. “principles” to demand China’s respect and dialogue to find areas of cooperation:

Army Chief Of Staff Calls On French Military Who Warned Of "Civil War" To Resign

Authored by Paul Joseph Watson via Summit news,

The Armed Forces chief of staff in France has called on soldiers who wrote a letter warning President Macron of a brewing “civil war” to resign.

The letter, which was published last weekend, warned of the “disintegration” of France due to authorities having made “concessions” to Islamism and the far left’s war on the nation state.

It followed another letter that was signed by 20 former French generals which struck a similar tone, cautioning that the “anti-racism” movement is seeking to create a “racial war” by attacking symbols of French cultural cohesion and identity, including statues.

Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Francois Lecointre has responded to the second letter by asserting that its authors should leave the military.

“The most reasonable thing is certainly to leave [the army] in order to be able to make one’s ideas and convictions public in a perfectly free [way],” the general said in a letter.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am reminded of Theodore Roosevelt's reflections on immigration, and have posted it here: "“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

So the question I have for these guys is, what if the military who wrote this, are correct in their assessment?!? That is the question Lecointre dares not ask.

Israel's Military Begins Ground Offensive In Gaza

update(7:37pm): Israel's military is attempting to walk back some initial statements, claiming they were mistranslated to the AFP - confirming that "ground troops" are now involved in operations at the border but that the "invasion" has yet to begin inside the Gaza Strip...

Webmaster's Commentary:

Bull biscuits; I would suggest that the invasion has well and truly begun, and that I would not be surprised at a Palestinian death toll in the thousands, when all is said and done.

Oh, and remember the tshirt members of the IDF sniper units were proudly wearing a number of years ago, until their PR department yanked it, because the "optics" were "not good" for the IDF?!?

That tshirt showed a pregnant Palestinian woman, and the phrase in Hebrew appearing on it translated into English as "One shot... two kills!"

Please don't be terribly surprised if we see a lot of that going on during the ground invasion as well.

Chicago Gun Network Traced To Enlisted Soldiers At Ford Campbell

Chicago is a dangerous liberal-run city with recent crime statistics that show gun violence is out of control. One unlikely source of gun violence is three enlisted soldiers at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, who operated a gun smuggling operation into the metro area.

Demarcus Adams, 21; Jarius Brunson, 22; and Brandon Miller, 22, were arrested Tuesday by Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command agents for pedaling dozens of firearms onto the streets of Chicago, including pistols recovered at a mass shooting, according to NBC Chicago.

The enlisted soldiers were charged with making false statements while purchasing dozens of firearms, transferring firearms to an out-of-state resident, wire fraud, money laundering, conspiracy, and selling guns without a license.

Gaza death toll jumps to 83 as Israeli air raids intensify: Live

By Virginia Pietromarchi
13 May 2021
Israeli fighter jets have attacked high-rise buildings and other targets in the Gaza Strip as Palestinians in the besieged enclave woke up on Thursday to mark the Eid al-Fitr religious holiday under relentless aerial bombardment.

Since the Israeli offensive began late on Monday, Gaza’s health ministry says at least 83 people, including 17 children, have been killed. More than 480 others have been wounded.

At least six Israelis have also been killed. The Israeli army said hundreds of rockets have been fired from Gaza towards various locations in Israel and they have added reinforcements near the enclave’s eastern lands.

There have also been more violent confrontations between Jewish Israelis and Palestinian citizens of Israel in several cities inside Israel.

Op-ed:"Netanyahu allying himself with far-right settler extremists has sparked violence in Jerusalem and risks all-out chaos

The Israeli prime minister’s decision to side with extremist settlers for political gain, along with attacks on Palestinian worshippers, have led to possible war with Gaza and “civil war” inside Israel itself.
The events that transpired at Al-Aqsa mosque (Temple Mount) compound last Friday, when hundreds of armed Israeli police attacked Palestinian worshippers, injuring 200, triggered an explosion of violence that had been close to boiling point since the beginning of Ramadan.

Why has Netanyahu allowed for a Palestinian uprising?

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is one critical question it appears that Netanyahu; the Mossad the Knesset; and the IDF seem to not want to address; what happens if the planned "air/ground assault" against Gaza cannot put the "genie of suppressed Palestinian rage" back into the proverbial bottle?!?

What then?!?

The unintended consequences of not having thought this all the way through, may well come back to create an horrific outcome for the state of Israel, through these planned and announced actions against Gaza.

Operation Anime: Uncle Sam works to enlist Gen Z-ers, while snubbing white soldiers and whitewashing war crimes

The spectacle of Uncle Sam turning up slim pickings in the search for fresh cannon fodder is certainly not the worst crisis to befall the planet. But it is bad news for the US war machine, lean and mean after four long years of peace.

According to the Pentagon, a shocking 71% of Americans aged 17 to 24 are ineligible to serve in the military due to a number of critical factors, including obesity, lack of high-school diploma, and a criminal record. This has placed significance on the remaining 29% of Generation Z, forcing recruiters to find increasingly creative ways of luring this demographic into its ranks.

Pictures of a Ukrainian Dream

The great Andrei Martyanov has remarked that Blinken “told Kiev behind the scenes to ‘dial it down’, amidst the fluffy tropes about US concern for Ukraine’s ‘sovereignty’ and ‘security’”.

Well, looks like there was way more than fluffy tropes.

Leaked info on the closed-door meeting between Blinken and Comedian-in-Charge Zelensky is no less than incandescent. Blinken seemed to have read a no holds barred riot act.

Here are the guidelines. All Ukrainian state corporations must be controlled by the proverbial “foreign interests”. So board majorities must be either foreign or 5th columnists. The entire anti-corruption vertical drive must also be foreign-controlled. Same for the judicial system.

Andriy Kobolyev – an American asset – must be reinstated as head of Naftogaz. Zelensky moved mountains to get rid of Kobolyev.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Everything we understand, scientifically, has a life cycle; galaxies; stars; planets.... and governmental systems.

Looks like the Ukrainian government, absolutely mired in gross, historic, and horrific corruption, is perhaps coming to the end of its current geopolitical history, and a new government may well take its place.

I would like to hope that whatever replaces it, will truly represent the needs, concerns, and hopes of the Ukrainian people far better than does its current collection of saptraps, scraping and bowing to the "foreign interests" which control it, until the moment it implodes.

Israel-Palestine: US sends diplomat to push for 'de-escalation'

Secretary of State Antony Blinken says he is sending undersecretary Hady Amr to the region, while reiterating support for Israel.

The US has announced that senior diplomat Hady Amr will be sent to the Middle East with the aim of de-escalating the violence in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken also reiterated on Wednesday Washington's support for what he called "Israel's legitimate right to defend itself".

"We're deeply concerned about what we're seeing there. Images that came out overnight are harrowing, and the loss of any civilian life is a tragedy," Blinken said.

"I've asked Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Hady Amr to go to the region immediately to meet with Israeli and Palestinian leaders. He will bring to bear his decades of experience, and in particular, he will urge on my behalf and on behalf of President Biden de-escalation of violence."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Antony Blinken, can you possibly please stop lying about what is going on, for one brief, shining moment, sir!?

Do you appreciate, for one millisecond, the deep, non-biodegradable pond scum in which Netanyahu finds himself, at this moment in Israel's history?!? Enmeshed with corruption scandals that will not go away?!?

Are you so geopolitically tone deaf and blind, that you not consider the possibility that the eviction of Palestinian families from homes in which they have lived in generations, coupled with the Israeli outrages at the Al Aqsa Mosque, were timed specifically to provoke a Palestinian reaction that would create this situation, which would make the removal of Netanyahu from office, a practical impossibility?!?

The indesputable fact here is, Netanyahu is desperate to hang on to power, no matter how many Palestinians and Israelis get hurt or killed; that, sir, is the reality here.

Israel's difficulty right now, is that it is singularly incapable of controlling the narrative, because of the presence of cell cameras, the net, and tweets to document what is happening.

16 hours ago - WorldNegotiations to oust Netanyahu stall amid Jerusalem crisis

Efforts to form a new Israeli government and oust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have come to an almost complete halt amid the escalation with Hamas.

Why it matters: Opposition leader Yair Lapid is six days into a 28-day mandate, and seemed on track to strike a coalition deal with Naftali Bennett, a right-wing kingmaker. But the latest crisis could make those efforts nearly impossible.

What led to the most recent Israel-Palestine escalation?

Protests over the expulsion of Palestinian families and Israeli raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque compound preceded Israel’s heavy bombardment of Gaza.

Days of heavy bombardment on the Gaza Strip intensified on Wednesday, with Israeli fighter jets bombing sites belonging to Palestinian armed groups, as well as police buildings and apartment blocks.

Since the offensive began late on Monday, Gaza’s health ministry says at least 53 people have been killed, including 14 children. More than 300 others have been wounded.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Newton made the observation: "To every action, there is an equal, and opposite, reaction."

The eviction of Palestinian families, coupled with the massive repressions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, were engineered to create precisely the situation in which the state of Israel finds itself, and now, it is playing "the victim"?!?

Please; thoughtful, peaceful people around the world have had a bellyfull of this, and want it stopped!! These actions were created to provoke precisely the response they have provoked; I am praying that there are some "adults in the room" on both sides who are working frantically to contain this, because the possibility of a regional war, followed by a world war, is a real and present danger to this world right now.

I do not want one more Israeli, or one more Palestinian to be hurt or killed;there must be a point where the madness stops, and all of our common humanity, as brothers and sisters on this planet, must be remembered, and invoked, as though it was a sacred kinship, which in my world, it is.

As history has proven, time and again, it becomes very easy to kill, under some circumstances; the hard part, is doing the hard work which allows us to live together without killing each other.

I would pray that Hamas, Fatah, and the Israeli Knesset are thinking about this, right now.

Israel posts fake videos to justify Gaza slaughter

The Israeli government posted a two-and-a-half-year-old video from Syria, claiming it was from Gaza, in order to justify its ongoing bombing campaign that has killed dozens of Palestinians since Monday.

But there is one problem: The video is old and does not appear to originate from the Gaza Strip.
The exact same video, just two seconds longer, had been posted on YouTube on 22 December 2019 by a user who indicated that it was filmed in Maarrat al-Numan, a city in northeastern Syria.

The original video contains no watermark or text suggesting any connection with Gaza.

This is a familiar propaganda tactic.

During Israel’s massive bombing campaign in Gaza in July 2014, Israel supporters widely shared a video claiming to show “Hamas using children as human shields.”

The video showed a man firing a mortar. Behind him was a group of small children huddled with an older man.

But this too was a video from the civil war in Syria, with no connection to Gaza

Webmaster's Commentary:

Tragically, but perfectly predictable, on the part of the Israeli government and media.

On April 22, more than 300 American lawmakers publicly pledged their unconditional loyalty to a foreign power.

In a letter to the chair and ranking member of the House Appropriations Committee, the members of Congress cautioned against “reducing funding or adding conditions on” US welfare checks (totaling $3.8 billion annually) to Israel.

The letter name-checks US President Joe Biden, who, nearly a year ago tried to have it both ways — decrying Israeli annexation of Palestinian land and the eviction of Palestinian residents to make room for Israeli squatters (“settlers”), while likewise volubly assuring Jewish campaign donors, “I’m not going to place conditions on security assistance.”

Plan for Preemptive Strike? Ukraine Says It Could Be Attacked From Belarus.

Speaking to a security forum in Kiev yesterday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said of a potential armed conflict with neighboring Russia, “I think it could be a world war.”

He was responding to a question by a reporter who had asked whether a Russian attack against Ukraine – he specified in September – could be launched not only from the pro-Russian Donetsk and Lugansk republics in the Donbass but also from Crimea and Belarus. Russia and Belarus are scheduled to hold this year’s ZAPAD joint military exercise in September. (The last was conducted in 2017. Western officials and analysts beforehand warned of the participation of over 100,000 troops; in fact the number was closer to 12,000. We can expect to hear inflated figures again ahead of this year’s event.)

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin spoke with his Israeli counterpart on Wednesday amid Israel’s new bombing campaign in Gaza and reaffirmed the US’s “ironclad commitment” to Israel.

“Secretary Austin conveyed the Department’s ironclad support for Israel’s legitimate right to defend itself and its people, and he strongly condemned the launching of rockets by Hamas and other terrorists groups that targeted Israeli civilians,” the Pentagon said in a readout of the call.

The US has failed to condemn or even really address the Palestinian children that have been killed by Israeli airstrikes in Gaza. Israel Rejects Hamas Truce Offer, Says Gaza Campaign ‘Far From Over’

The Israeli security cabinet voted to intensify airstrikes, Defense Minister Gantz said the operation has 'no end date'
by Dave DeCamp Posted onMay 12, 2021CategoriesNewsTagsGaza, Israel, Palestine
On Wednesday night, Israel rejected a ceasefire offer from Hamas and approved a plan to intensify airstrikes in Gaza.

The truce offer from Hamas was made through the Russian foreign ministry. A Hamas official was quoted as saying that the group would halt attacks on a “mutual basis” with Israel.

According to Haaretz, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the ministers in the Israeli security cabinet agreed unanimously to reject the ceasefire and continue bombing Gaza. The cabinet then voted to escalate the attacks indefinitely

'MAY THEIR PROGENY BE ERASED!' ISRAELIS CELEBRATE AS FIRE RAGES NEAR AL-AQSA MOSQUE ON JERUSALEM DAY

HOW ‘WOKE’ MAY BE LEADING US TO CIVIL WAR

SOURCE: ROGER SIMON VIA THE EPOCH TIMES
The other day, I wrote that “woke” was the new conformism.

It is, of course, but I undersold it. It’s much more than that and more dangerous.

As Tal Bachman notes at Steynonline, it’s now our state religion, a state religion in a country that - constitutionally and for good reason - isn’t supposed to have one.

But “Wokism” is yet more than that, too. It’s a mass psychosis similar to many that have arisen throughout history when the masses followed leaders who, in their zeal or self-interest, took them to disastrous ends.

A good example was when the Dominican friar Girolamo Savonarola - in a 1497 version of “cancel culture” - swept up everything secular in Florence from some of the most extraordinary paintings and sculpture of all time to the works of Boccaccio and burned them in the so-called Bonfire of the Vanities.

Divided We Stand: Why We Must Resist Political 'Unity'

Authored by Bruce Frohnen via RealClearPolicy.com,

We hear a lot about “unity” these days. The Biden administration promises and even demands it. Meanwhile, Republicans (and some Democrats) charge the administration with hypocrisy because its radical programs can’t garner a legislative majority — let alone the consensus support the word “unity” implies. But the charge of hypocrisy misses the point: The demand for unity is dangerous because it aims to undermine the genuine diversity that is essential to a free people.

US lust for war mostly based on profit margins

A good deal of the earnings accrued from US wars goes straight into election campaigns, which in other countries would be considered bribery, but in the United States is relabeled as campaign donations.

The US is well known for inciting war, invading various countries with facile justifications, usually in the name of Democracy and human rights, framing itself as liberators rather that resource grabbing invaders.

Washington not only spends more than everybody else on its own military, but it exports weapons to the rest of the world beyond what anybody else does. In actuality the arms 96% of the nations that it itself calls the most oppressive, most brutal dictatorships and governments on the planet.

US submarine docks in Norway, protesters fear becoming ‘bomb target’

A nuclear-powered American submarine has docked at a civilian port in northern Norway, sparking concerns among protesters, who say the deployment would turn the city into a bomb target in the event of a war.

The USS New Mexico submarine arrived in Tønsnes municipal harbor, in Tromsø city, on Monday.

The Norwegian government imposed a no-fly zone over the port, strictly guarding access to the harbor area under tight security.

The military guarding of the port will only last for as long as the submarine stays, said the army.

People gathered at the port to protest the submarine's arrival and the government's failure to "take adequate preventive measures to avert a possible nuclear catastrophe.”

They held banners that read, “US Army out of Norway” and “No nukes in Tromsø.”

Head of US 'SWAT Team of Nerds' Steps Down After Mysterious IP Address Decision

The head of the Defence Digital Service (dubbed "SWAT Team of Nerds" by its own members) has succeeded in expanding the scope of his department's operations beyond simply solving IT problems for the Pentagon. However, this required him to cut through a tangle of red tape put in place by the department's bureaucracy.

The chief of the Pentagon's Defence Digital Service (DDS), Brett Goldstein, said in an interview with Politico that he will be stepping down in July 2021 after two years in the post.

Goldstein's term expires this year, but it is not unheard-of for the DDS chief's contract to be extended. However, for reasons unknown, Goldstein's contract has not been prolonged despite his achievements in the post. His replacement has also not been announced so far, but his deputy, Katie Olson, who focused on counter-drone operations and assembling the Department of Defence's collection of pathology specimens, will serve as acting chief.

Keep Weapons Out of Space — ‘The New War-Fighting Domain’

Washington has re-established the “space race” by creation of the Space Force intended to “control the ultimate high ground,” Brian Cloughley writes.

In January it was noted by a New York Times’ columnist that the nominated Secretary of the U.S. Defence Department, General Lloyd Austin, had “told the Senate he would keep a ‘laserlike focus’ on sharpening the country’s ‘competitive edge’ against China’s increasingly powerful military. Among other things, he called for new American strides in building ‘space-based platforms’ and repeatedly referred to space as a war-fighting domain.” This was not a surprising commitment by the about-to-be confirmed head of the Pentagon, which had already added the ominously named Space Force to its war-fighting assets.

Massive British, NATO War Games Prepare Queen Elizabeth Carrier Strike Group To Confront Russia and China

This year’s iteration of Britain’s biannual Joint Warrior exercise in the Irish Sea is subsumed under another exercise, Strike Warrior 21, being used to prepare the HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier, the flagship of the Royal Navy, and its carrier strike group for deployment to the Mediterranean Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Asia-Pacific region.

Exercise Joint Warrior, held in the spring and autumn every year, is described by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization as the largest military exercise in Europe and is organized jointly by the British army, navy and air force. It occurs off the northern and western coasts of Scotland in the Irish Sea. It is one of 95 NATO exercises scheduled for 2021 (113 were scheduled for last year), with 220 other national and multinational exercises conducted in conjunction with them.

How AI Will Soon Change Special Operations

When Gen. Richard D. Clarke was leading special operations forces in Afghanistan years ago, he spent 90 percent of his time thinking about moving and shooting — “the raid, the mission, the kill-capture mission, the destruction of enemy forces,” Clarke said last week at the annual SOFIC conference. But when he returned to Afghanistan last year as the commander of U.S. Special Operations Command, he found that U.S. leaders were focusing most of their mental energy on information.

Commanders now spend about 60 percent of their time mulling what the Taliban and the Afghan population are thinking, and how U.S. actions might influence that, Clarke said. “As we look at the info space and in our fight for competition...working in the information space can have the greatest impact in the coming years.”

Of course, it’s not just the Chinese government that Americans have to worry about – this research is being explored in the West as well. Will we see a super soldier arms race? Just what the world needs…

Nearly Half of Female Soldiers Still Failing New Army Fitness Test, While Males Pass Easily

More than seven months after the official launch of the Army Combat Fitness Test, or ACFT, nearly half of female soldiers are still falling short, with enlisted women struggling the most, Military.com has learned. The data again raises questions about whether the Army's attempt to create a fitter force is creating more barriers to success for women.

Internal Army figures from April show 44% of women failed the ACFT, compared to 7% of men since Oct. 1. "Female soldiers continue to lag male soldier scores in all events," according to a United States Army Forces Command briefing obtained by Military.com.

FORSCOM data includes the results of 106,000 ACFTs taken in the first half of fiscal 2021. This amounts to 27% of women and 36% of men in the force who also have scores logged into the Army's database, meaning the data could potentially be incomplete. FORSCOM tracks 3,400 new fitness tests per week on average.

US Already Planning How To "Choke" Chinese Submarines In Case Of Conflict

A hugely significant weakness and set-back for the Chinese Navy and particularly its submarine capability was featured in recent Nikkei analysis, which found that its coastal system already has geography working against it, while at the same time giving Japan and Taiwan a significant edge.

"When you look at China’s submarine bases, every single one of them has a fair bit of shallow water that their submarines have to transit through in order to get to deep water," former US Navy submariner Tom Shugart explained to Nikkei Asia.

A key issue is that submarines are much easier for rival nations to search out and track as they traverse shallow water, while in deep sea waters identity and defensive action against subs becomes extremely difficult.

Will Biden Have Blood on His Hands in Afghanistan?

President Biden has announced that America’s forever war in Afghanistan is finally coming to an end. He says that U.S. forces will exit the country by next September 11.

That’s a good thing. And it is long overdue.

But there is one big problem with Biden’s timetable: It violates an agreement that the U.S. government entered into with the Taliban to exit the country by May 1 of this year.

Under that agreement, the Taliban agreed not to attack U.S. troops prior to their scheduled departure on May 1. With Biden’s decision to deliberately violate the agreement by unilaterally extending the withdrawal to September 11, he is knowingly placing the lives of the 3,500 American servicemen still in Afghanistan at risk.

How a hearing on nuclear weapons shows all that’s wrong with US foreign policy making

If you want to understand why our nuclear strategy is so badly out of date, and out of touch with most Americans, look no further than the abysmal hearing last week staged by the Strategic Forces Subcommittee of the Senate Armed Services Committee. A panel of old white men spent 90 minutes hectoring Congress to replace every weapon in the U.S. arsenal and to maintain the Cold War policies that repeatedly brought us to the brink of nuclear war.

The hearing was titularly chaired by Senator Angus King but choreographed by subcommittee staff director Jonathan Epstein, who is said to be the guiding force behind the subcommittee. The witnesses were selected to present a nearly uniform endorsement of existing programs and contracts, particularly the controversial new intercontinental ballistic missile, or ICBM, and to rebut arguments in favor of revising obsolete Cold War doctrines.

Trump’s Secret Rules for Drone Strikes and Presidents’ Unchecked License to Kill

On Friday night, in response to transparency lawsuits filed by the ACLU and the New York Times, the Biden administration released a redacted version of President Trump’s rules for the use of lethal force against terrorism suspects abroad. During the Trump administration, the Times and other media reported that the Trump rules weakened even the loose policy safeguards put in place by the Obama administration in 2013, which were also released in response to litigation in 2016. Despite redactions, the newly-revealed Trump rules show how far that administration went in casting aside any meaningful constraint on the United States’ use of lethal force abroad without meaningful oversight by Congress or the judiciary, and with devastating consequences for people’s lives.

Alaska: US Military Exercise Implements New Doctrine To Confront Russia in the Arctic

The large-scale Northern Edge war games commenced a week ago in and off the coast of Alaska. An estimated 15,000 service members from the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy are participating in the two-week event along with six ships and 240 aircraft. The Air Force’s newest fighter jet, the F-15EX Eagle ll, is among the warplanes deployed for the exercise. Northern Edge is its maiden flight in terms of military drills. The Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group, an amphibious ready group and embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit are also involved .

Stars and Stripes’ account of the exercise, which it terms massive, is titled Joint exercise of US forces in Alaska mimics ‘what future conflict could feel like.’ The word mimic is perhaps intentionally misleading. Rehearsing for future conflicts would be more to the point. Rehearsing for future conflict with Russia would be more accurate yet.

And all of this happened in years in which little indeed went into American domestic infrastructure.

Who Wags the Dog? Israel’s Friends in Washington Mean Constant War in the Middle East

Donald Trump, who was elected President of the United States in 2016, may have won due to voters attracted by his pledge to end many of the “stupid” wars that the American military was involved in worldwide. In the event, however, he ended no wars in spite of several attempts to withdraw from Afghanistan and Syria, and almost started new conflicts with cruise missile attacks and the assassination of an Iranian general. Trump was consistently outmaneuvered by his “experts” on the National Security Council and at the Pentagon, who insisted that it was too early to disengage from the Middle East and Central Asia, that America’s own national security would be threatened.

Jerusalem Protests: The Mob ‘Breaking Faces’ Learned From Israel’s Establishment

Dragged out of bed

What Human Rights Watch and other human rights groups have been documenting is equally visible to the gangs roaming Jerusalem. Israel’s official actions share a common purpose, one that sends a clear message to these youngsters about what the state – and Israel’s national ideology of Zionism – aims to achieve.

They see Palestinian land reclassified as Jewish “state land” and the constant expansion of settlements that violate international law. They see Palestinians denied permits to build homes in their own villages. They see orders issued to demolish Palestinian homes, or even entire communities. And they see Palestinian families torn apart as couples, or their children, are refused the right to live together.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One would have thought.... that after the horror of being labeled "the other" in Germany before World War II,and became subject to horrific actions against them, that Jews who had experienced those kinds of degradation, frequently leading to death, would never, ever inflict such actions against any another human beings, when Israel was founded.

Unfortunately, the reality of 21st century Israel, is that it has become an apartheid theocracy, with nuclear weapons.

I have to wonder.... if this was really what the founders of this country actually wanted, because it has become, in the words of Casey Stengal, "deja vu, all over again."

Bloodbath in Mexico: Another gift of US drug and drone wars

Written by
Ted Galen Carpenter

Washington’s bankrupt drug-war and drone-war initiatives have both come home to roost on America’s own southern border. Decades of U.S. policy ineptitude have empowered Mexico’s drug cartels to the point that they now pose an alarming threat to the country’s basic social order.

Now the violence in Mexico is beginning to exhibit a greater high-tech sophistication. In late April, the Jalisco cartel attacked police in the western state of Michoacan with explosive-laden drones, wounding two officers. It was merely the latest development in just one theater of the country’s ongoing chaos.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The American Comedian Ron White, has one line in his stand-up routine, which seems to very much apply here: "You can't fix stupid!!"

And this has been very much a stupid policy with regard to drugs, on the part of the US government.

Were I in government, I would advocate legalizing EVERYTHING, to take the profit motive away from the cartels. Of course, the private and public prison systems would collectively yell, scream, and holler; they love high recidivism rates, and those high rates are, unfortunately, a result, of how the US incarcerates.

Oh What a Lovely New War! False Flagging in the Middle East?

There has been virtually no American media coverage of last week’s arrival of a senior Israeli delegation in Washington to discuss Iran. The delegation included the head of the Israeli external intelligence service Mossad Yossi Cohen and Israel’s National Security Advisor Meir Ben-Shabbat. Their itinerary included briefings at the Pentagon and also with national security and State Department officials at the White House. Lest there be any confusion about the “mission” of the delegation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced unambiguously that his team would be explaining why Iran should not be trusted and that any agreement with it is “fundamentally flawed” in that it opens the door to a nuclear weapon for the Iranians when the deal enters its “sunset” phase after ten years.

Israel Attacks Syria for Second Straight Night

Israel went nearly two weeks between attacking Syria, and is now hitting for a second night in a row, with an attack helicopter raid into the Syrian Golan Heights. As with Wednesday night, Israel refused to comment on the attacks.

This makes it tough to determine what happened, as Israeli media tends to exaggerate and Syrian state media tends to downplay what happened. Officially, there are no confirmed casualties of the Thursday attack, and only one civilian killed Wednesday.

The attacks were on opposite sides of the country, with Wednesday’s hit near Latakia in the northwest, and Thursday’s in Quneitra, near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. In neither case was it clear what was being attacked, though Wednesday’s missiles hit a plastic factory.

As NATO Summit Approaches: Will Biden Keep US Nuclear Weapons in Turkey?

A piece was published in Turkey’s Hürriyet on May 5 by its editor-in-chief Sedat Ergin analyzing the prospects of the Biden administration removing American nuclear bombs from Turkey.

It has been estimated that the Pentagon maintains 50 B61 tactical nuclear weapons at the Incirlik Air Base in the country among an estimated 350 of those kept in Europe under the auspices of a NATO nuclear sharing or burden sharing arrangement. Both expressions are used. The other 300 bombs are reputed to be in Belgium, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. Those in Turkey have the advantage of being closer to Russia and the Middle East. The Incirlik Air Base, in Adana, is not far from Turkey’s border with Syria.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF Biden's handlers have any horse-sense whatsoever, they will get these weapons OUT of Turkey, just as quickly as humanly/diplomatically possible.

US Accuses Iran of Making ‘Unrealistic Demands’ for Sanctions Relief

Indirect negotiations between the US and Iran that have been ongoing in Vienna to revive the nuclear deal are dragging out due to the fact that the Biden administration refuses to lift all Trump-era sanctions. On Thursday, a State Department official blamed the lack of progress on the Iranian side and said Tehran was making “unrealistic demands” for sanctions relief.

The unnamed official told reporters that a deal could be reached quickly if Iran has the political will. “If Iran makes the political decision that it genuinely wants to return to the JCPOA as the JCPOA was negotiated, then it could be done relatively quickly and implementation could be relatively swift,” the official said.

Iran has been very clear that if the US lifts sanctions imposed since the Trump administration withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018, Tehran would quickly return to the nuclear limits set by the agreement. But President Biden refuses to do so, complicating the negotiations

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Unrealistic demands", MY ASTROLABE!!

More and more, all of this appears to be a huge "rope-a-dope" scheme, to make Iran look bad and wrong, so that when the US gets "suckered" into a war with Iran, courtesy of Israel, of course, that some Americans will believe that such an action is "justified."

In my world; war of any kind signals that there has been a catastrophic failure of imagination.

And, there is the following to consider:

The question the US government should be asking is, if it is ready to confront BOTH China and Iran, should things go "south" concerning the resumption of JCPOA?!? That is one heck of an important question right now!!!

EU Accepts US, Canada, Norway in Military Mobilization Project

The European Union (EU) on Thursday authorized the United States, Canada, and Norway to participate in the Permanent Structural Cooperation (PESCO), a project that seeks to streamline the cross-border mobilization of troops and military equipment by land, sea, and air.

Acceptance for the participation of these countries in this program was conditional on their acceptance of several conditions, including the exchange of military information with the EU.

PESCO was established in 2017 as the European response to then-President Donald Trump's threats to diminish U.S. cooperation in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

It also emerged as a mechanism to enhance the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) after the consummation of Brexit and in the face of "threats" that might arise from Russia's actions.

Milley: US Considering Training Afghan Forces in Other Countries

n Thursday, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley said the US was considering training the Afghan military in other countries after US troops are pulled out of Afghanistan.

“We’ll continue to take a look at training them perhaps in another location,” Milley said at a joint press conference with Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. When asked if that means the US would train Afghan forces from a different country, Milley said, “It’s possible.”

“There’s a lot of different options out there, and we haven’t settled on one of them yet,” he added. Milley reiterated that the US will continue to provide financial support for the Afghan military.

The Afghan military, especially the air force, is reliant on Pentagon contractors to maintain their equipment. At the press conference, Austin said the plan is to remove US contractors from Afghanistan, but Milley suggested some sort of contractual support could continue.

Space Force Chief Scientist Says Developing Super-Soldiers Is ‘Imperative’

Dr. Joel Mozer said the technology could be used to create a 'superhuman workforce' for the military.

The top scientist in the US Space Force said last week that human augmentation should be embraced and that it is “imperative” for the US military to start working on such technology that could create a type of super-soldier.

“In our business of national defense, it’s imperative that we embrace this new age, lest we fall behind our strategic competitors,” Dr. Joel Mozer said at an event at the Air Force Research Laboratory.

Mozer said augmentation technology could produce a “superhuman workforce” that uses technologies like “augmented reality, virtual reality, and nerve stimulation.”

“You could put [an] individual into a state of flow, where learning is optimized, and retention is maximized,” he said. “This individual could be shaped into somebody with very high-performing potential.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

This all sounds reasonable on the face of it; however, I have a question for the good Doctor; what happens when an individual who has had this done to them, returns to civilian life?!?

How will they resond to their own crying, teething baby?!? How will they resond to a spouse who may not quite react to something as they expected, no, demanded that they react?!?

The unasked question here, is how do these people get "deconditioned" from what they have gone through in order to return to ordinary civilial life?!?

Call me silly, but I worry about this.

Cyber Command shifts counterterrorism task force to focus on higher-priority threats

U.S. Cyber Command is shifting the majority of its special task force aimed at targeting the Islamic State group to focus more on nation-state actors, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region, which the command and the Department of Defense are prioritizing.

Joint Task Force-Ares was created in 2016 to combat the militant organization online as a compliment to the global coalition fighting against the group’s grip on power in Iraq and Syria. The task force has since undergone several changes. The Army’s cyber component was originally tasked to lead the joint cyber effort, but in 2018, responsibility shifted to Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command, which allowed the team to focus not just on the Islamic State group, but more broadly on counterterrorism efforts globally.

Why These Infantry Marines Have a New Obsession with Chess

It's kind of like Fight Club. Except it's mental, not physical, and Marines can't stop talking about it.

In the recently concluded first pilot of the new 14-week Infantry Marine Course, junior grunts and their instructors blew off steam and passed downtime with game after game of chess. For Marines, famous for staving off boredom in sillier and more reckless ways, hours spent playing the timeless game of mental strategy represents a bit of a departure.

But it's completely in keeping with the focus of the new infantry course, which calls on the Corps' most junior ground-pounders to think critically, take initiative and consider their training in the context of the service's larger strategy to prepare for a future fight against a peer adversary in a maritime environment.

America’s Plan to Spend $17.7 Billion on Just 31 Surface-to-Air Missiles

The Pentagon plans to spend almost $18 billion to develop, produce and support its new interceptor to stop incoming nuclear missiles from North Korea or Iran, the first major defense procurement award of the Biden administration, according to newly released figures.

Teams led by Lockheed Martin Corp. and Northrop Grumman Corp. will receive between them as much as $13.1 billion in the development phase of the Next Generation Interceptor. Their competition will culminate in a winner-take-all selection process following a “critical design review” — possibly by 2026 — leading to the construction of as many as 31 new interceptors, including 10 for testing.

The production phase is estimated to cost $2.3 billion, with long-term support costs totaling another $2.3 billion, according to estimates prepared by the Pentagon’s independent cost assessment unit.

“At First Quietly, Then Much Less Quietly”

The Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI), a branch of the U.S. Department of Defense, was launched in 1971 as the Defense Race Relations Institute (it changed to DEOMI in 1979). But whatever the name, the mandate’s always been the same: pollute the armed forces with propaganda about how America is racist, sexist, “homophobic,” and an all-around evil place filled with Klansmen and Himmlers.

DEOMI employs a trickle-down methodology, indoctrinating base commanders who then pass along the propagandizing to their rank-and-file service members.

VA Secretary Wants More Vets Sickened by Burn Pits to File Claims, But Many Are Still Being Turned Away

Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough wants more veterans who believe they were sickened by exposure to burn pits overseas to seek help from the department, despite many being turned away.

"We're urging vets to come forward with their claims," McDonough said at a press briefing Monday. "Our commitment is to treat each claim with the care it deserves. As we get more claims, we can aggregate those claims to draw bigger conclusions."

As of March 31, the VA had denied 72% of burn pit claims, according to agency data obtained by Military.com. Between June 2007 and March 31, the VA processed 15,640 disability compensation claims related to burn pit exposure. Of those, 3,510 veterans had at least one burn pit issue granted.

Honeywell Fined Millions Over Exporting Sensitive Info On F-22, F-35, And More To China

The U.S. government and defense contractor Honeywell have reached a settlement over alleged violations of portions of the Arms Export Control Act, or AECA, and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, or ITAR. The matter at hand had to do with Honeywell's alleged unauthorized export of dozens of technical drawings relating to components of various aircraft, missiles, and tanks, including the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, the F-22 Raptor stealth fighter, the B-1B bomber, the Tomahawk cruise missile, and the M1A1 Abrams, to multiple countries, including China. American officials contend that some of the disclosures harmed national security, something that Honeywell denies.

America Is Still Servicing Saudi Aircraft Bombing Yemen

The Biden administration has finally clarified the extent to which it is still supporting Saudi Arabia’s military in Yemen.

In comments to Vox, Pentagon officials admitted that the US is still maintaining Saudi Arabia’s warplanes by using contractors. The US could cancel the contracts at any time, which would effectively ground the Saudi Air Force, ending the vicious bombing campaign that has been raging since March 2015.

“The United States continues to provide maintenance support to Saudi Arabia’s Air Force given the critical role it plays in Saudi air defense and our longstanding security partnership,” a Pentagon spokesperson told Vox over the weekend.

The maintenance is done through the Pentagon’s Foreign Military Sales program, which means Saudi Arabia pays the US to provide contractors that can maintain the warplanes.

Hawks okay with Israeli attacks on Iran leading to all-out war

A former advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that Israeli actions against Iran may lead to a war that endangers civilian life, but supported that strategy over the Biden administration’s current diplomacy with Iran.

Speaking at the Jewish Institute for National Security of America, retired major general Yaakov Amidror found a receptive audience of American hawks who believed the Biden administration needed to be saved from its own policy choices.

Amidror, who served as Israel’s national security adviser from 2011 to 2013 and is now a distinguished fellow at JINSA, spoke about the Israeli-Iranian “shadow war,” which has involved alleged Israeli sabotage attacks on Iran.

“At the end, we might face Iranians who decide to retaliate,” he said. “Might it lead to a war? I think that the decision makers understand that the answer might be yes.”

Weapons biz celebrates declining ‘state of humankind,’ cold war with China

Business is good for weapons companies according to their just released first-quarter-2021 earnings. Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and General Dynamics all had first-quarter-revenues that exceeded estimates. And executives from all three corporations were surprisingly blunt with investors on earnings calls about why their revenues were soaring: the Biden administration’s tilt toward great power competition with China and greater international instability.

General Dynamics’ Chairman and CEO Phebe Novakovic clearly stated that what’s bad for people is good for their bottomline. “[U]nfortunately, for the state of humankind, the world has become an increasingly dangerous place,” said Novakovic on Wednesday. “And so we see the reflection of that concern in many U.S. allies with increased demand for many of our products in Europe, Eastern Europe, a little bit in Asia, parts of the Middle East and in the former Commonwealth nations and the U.K.”

New Chinese Submarine Armed With Missiles Capable of Covering Entire US, Reports Say

China's newly commissioned nuclear-powered submarine, dubbed the Type 094A, is equipped with ballistic missiles capable of hitting targets at a distance of 10,000 kilometres (6,200 miles) — the most powerful in the country, the South China Morning Post reported, citing a military source.

"The Type 094A is an upgraded version of the Type 094 that overcame one of the key problems – noise – by improving hydrokinetic and turbulent systems, allowing it to carry the more powerful JL-3", the source was quoted as saying on Sunday.

Before the upgrade, the submarine was capable of firing the inferior JL-2 that could only hit the northeast United States, the source said, noting that currently, it is able to cover the whole American continent.

U(nspeakably) S(adistic) Foreign Policy

If you had set out to construct a foreign policy designed to impose indescribable suffering on millions of innocent people around the world, you’d have a tough time coming up with anything more systematic and effective than U.S. foreign policy. An inventory of US direct military and covert operations, aid to savage governments and murderous "rebels," and economic sanctions would easily lead one to think that the architects of this constellation of policies aimed to inflict death and maximum pain on innocent bystanders. It has been one series of crimes against humanity.

Foreign minister, military chief: Ukraine’s NATO-standard army to be integrated into global military force

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who was at NATO headquarters slightly more than a week ago to meet with Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, spoke with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and confirmed that his nation’s entry into NATO and the European Union is a matter not of if but when.

For anyone not familiar with the fact, the eleven nations that have joined both NATO and the European Union in the post-Cold War era – Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia – all joined NATO first and the EU second. As though the first were the precondition for the second as it evidently is. That says a lot concerning power relations between NATO and the EU, and between the U.S. and the EU.

Blinken: US, UK and Allies Must Work Against China’s Threat to ‘International Rules-Based Order’

On Monday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab ahead of an in-person meeting of the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7).

At a joint press conference, Blinken and Raab discussed the need to rally the G7 countries against China and Russia. “We’ll talk about threats to the international rules-based order and to democratic values and human rights,” Blinken said of the G7 meetings that are happening over the next few days.

Blinken and other US officials often claim China is a threat to the so-called “rules-based order.” While the US is clearly following a policy of containment with Beijing, Blinken claims that is not the case. He said the Biden administration’s goal is not to “contain China or to hold China down” but to “uphold the international rules-based order.”

China’s new nuclear submarine missiles expand range in US: analysts

China’s newly commissioned nuclear-powered submarine is armed with the country’s most powerful submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) capable of hitting the US mainland, according to a military source and analysts.

The Type 094A, or Jin-class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN), was presented last Friday as part of the celebration to mark the 72nd anniversary of the PLA Navy. It was capable of firing the JL-3, or Julang (Big Wave) SLBM with a range over 10,000km (6,200 miles), a source close to the navy said.

“The Type 094A is an upgraded version of the Type 094 that overcame one of the key problems – noise – by improving hydrokinetic and turbulent systems, allowing it to carry the more powerful JL-3,” said the source, who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject.

“Before the upgrade, the submarine was armed with the inferior JL-2 that could only hit the northeast United States, but now it’s able to cover the whole American continent.”

SitRep: Is the F-35 officially a failure?

The oft-maligned F-35 program has run into another bit of turbulence. For years, Congress has authorized the Defense Department to purchase more F-35 Lightning II aircraft than the services had made budget requests for. But that largess appears to be coming to an end—just as the US Air Force starts to look for other ways to fill out its fighter squadrons.

In February, the Air Force lifted the curtains on plans to buy a brand-new aircraft to replace the F-16 Fighting Falcon. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. C.Q. Brown said the service is looking at buying what he called a "clean sheet" fighter in 2023, using lessons learned from the efforts behind the recently acquired T-7A Red Hawk trainer. But that plan may have some difficulty taking flight because the Air Force was supposed to already have an F-16 replacement—the F-35A Lightning II.

Hawks seek revival with new group

Fresh from his great success at regime change as Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for both Venezuela and Iran, neoconservative hero Elliott Abrams took to the oped (some say comics) page of the Wall Street Journal to announce the creation of “A New Coalition to Advance U.S. Global Interests“ dedicated to the proposition that the United States must maintain its post-World War II role as “superpower leader of the free world” and “the most powerful and influential nation in the world.”

The Marines' New Unmanned Ship Killing Missile Launcher Truck Breaks Cover

We now have our first look at an unmanned variant the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle armed with Naval Strike Missile anti-ship cruise missiles that is under development for the U.S. Marine Corps. That service confirmed that a test of this system, an important component of an ongoing and radical restructuring of its forces, had taken place in November 2020, but no pictures were released at the time of the launch vehicle itself.

Raytheon released the picture, which is credited to the U.S. Navy, of what is officially known as the Navy Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System (NMESIS) on April 28, 2020. The company subsequently confirmed to Naval News that the image was from the test last year. The complete NMESIS system consists of the unmanned Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), also known as the Remotely Operated Ground Unit Expeditionary-Fires (ROGUE-Fires), and a launcher with two ready-to-fire Naval Strike Missiles (NSM) inside their self-contained launch canisters.

Trucks Get Parked Over Air Force Nuclear Missile Silos During Tests… Just In Case

The U.S. Air Force’s latest Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile system test at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, included a semi-truck parked over the silo, an added precaution to absolutely rule out an accidental launch. This seemingly crude measure is a routine part of these ICBM tests, codenamed Giant Pace, which evaluates the reliability of the land-based leg of the U.S. nuclear triad.

One of the most recent such tests, which are referred to as SELMs, standing for Simulated Electronic Launch-Minuteman III, was Giant Pace 21-1. This took place at Minot’s Golf 8 launch facility on April 7. These take place every two years and run through the whole process for readying an LGM-30G Minuteman III missile to fire, except for the actual launch. After the launch command is issued, the key in the launch control center is turned, and the door to the missile silo slides open. At that point, the exercise ends.
