Muslims in Kashmir fear demographic shift amid Indian ambitions

Social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram in Kashmir are filled with angry posts from people who got their newly issued domicile resident certificates.

Many in the Muslim-majority Kashmir believe India has a larger scheme to change the demography of the region.

Up to 25,000 people have been granted domicile certificates in Indian-controlled Kashmir since May.

The certificate is equal to citizenship. It entitles a person to residency and jobs in the region, which until last year was only reserved for the local population.

In August 2019, India revoked the semi-autonomous status of the region. It also scrapped the local special citizenship law. Observers now believe this is the beginning of a new struggle for Kashmir.

Kashmir Muslims fear demographic shift as thousands get residency

Up to 25,000 people have been granted domicile certificates in Indian-administered Kashmir since May 18, raising fears of the beginning of demographic changes in the Muslim-majority Himalayan region.

The certificate, a sort of citizenship right, entitles a person to residency and government jobs in the region, which till last year was reserved only for the local population.

Last year on August 5, when India revoked the semi-autonomous status of the region, it also scrapped the local special citizenship law, guaranteed under Article 35 (A) of the Indian constitution. The move has drawn parallel with the occupied West Bank.

On Friday, Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden said, "India should take all necessary steps to restore the rights of all the people of Kashmir."

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF, in fact, the government of India wanted to create a huge demographic shift, this would be the way to do it.

India and China reach out to common friend Russia as deadly border conflict still raw

Days after India and China engaged in a bloody border confrontation, Russia, a common strategic partner to each, is this week playing host to the two sides. Can Moscow influence the outcome of their dispute?

The Russia-India-China (RIC) trilateral foreign ministers’ virtual meeting yesterday, hosted by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, was the first time that India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had spoken face-to-face since the recent military confrontation – now in the process of disengaging – along the Line of Actual Control, the de facto India-China boundary.

Reportedly, Jaishankar and Wang had an angry phone exchange just days ago over the border clashes, in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed.

China, India Open New Front of Escalation With Deployment of Heavy Vehicles, Troops in Depsang

New Delhi (Sputnik): The Indian Army on Tuesday announced that it had reached a consensus with the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) to disengage from the Galwan Valley and Pangong Tso. Army sources said that the disengagement process started on Wednesday evening.

China has moved thousands of troops, artillery units, and armoured vehicles to a new area of northern Ladakh. Confirming the Chinese deployment, government sources claimed that in addition to troops they have attack helicopters and armoured vehicles to counter any eventuality in the region.

The sources added that for the past two weeks, deployment by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) has increased in the region, which is 21 km from an Indian Army post in Depsang and southeast of Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO). Daulat Beg Oldie is very close to the Karakoram Pass separating China’s Xinjiang Autonomous Region from Ladakh.

China & India Agree To "Cooling" & Disengagement Along Contested Border

China has dismissed widespread Indian media claims that its side suffered 40 casualties during the June 15 night border clash which left 20 Indian soldiers dead as "fake news". It has further condemned New Delhi giving its troops "freedom of action" to respond with deadly fire if under attack by PLA troops.

But despite the soaring tensions which many feared could see war break out along the disputed Ladakh border region, the two nuclear armed neighbors have agreed to deescalation and disengagement at the border.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian confirmed at a news briefing on Tuesday that talks between the two sides' top regional commanders resulted in a positive breakthrough. They "agreed to take necessary measures to promote a cooling of the situation," Zhao said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Fingers crossed that this is going to work, and these countries will truly move back from the brink here.

India, China Continue Military Build-Up in Contested Ladakh Despite Agreement to Disengage

New Delhi (Sputnik): India and China have been engaged in an unprecedented border face-off at the Line of Control in the Ladakh region over the last two months. Despite around a dozen high-level talks, the agreed upon disengagement is yet to take place at Pangong Tso and the Galwan Valley.

Despite a "mutual consensus" to de-escalate tensions on the Indo-China border, satellite images purportedly show the Chinese People’s Liberation Army allegedly continuing a military build-up in the Ladakh region, along with India increasing motor boat patrolling in Pangong Tso.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, this potentially is about to get very ugly very quickly.

I hope that SOME "adult in the room of geopolitics" with a shred of integrity left, is working the phones between New Dehli and Beijing, in an attempt to get this de-escalated, and quickly.

Videos of Intense Face-off Between Indian and Chinese Troops Go Viral Days After Deadly Clashes

New Delhi (Sputnik): Over the last few days, the two Asian giants - India and China - have been involved in diplomatic talks as the situation on the border is tense following the face-off between troops from the two countries on 15 June that left 20 Indian soldiers killed and many others injured. China hasn't confirmed any casualties so far.

Undated videos showing Indian soldiers engaged in a fierce stand-off with Chinese troops supposedly at a border area in Sikkim Sector are going viral on social media.

In one such video, a group of Indian soldiers can be seen jostling and pushing back Chinese troops. They can also be heard asking the People's Liberation Army to go back.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Will somebody out there with a shred of geopolitical integrity left, please get this deescalated, and quickly; we do not have much time before someone does something stupidly irreparable, and we are off and running into WW3 before the world barely knows what hit it.

World holds breath as India shoots down drone over Kashmir - Pakistan plans response: INDIA has shot down a Pakistani drone over the contested territory of Jammu and Kashmir, military sources have confirmed.

India and Pakistan have already fought two wars since independence that were partially or completely over the sovereignty of the territory. The unmanned drone, which was reportedly carrying weaponry, was shot down by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) in Kathua district near the Pansar border outpost.

In a statement the BSF said: “Alert troops of BSF shot down a Pakistani Hexa copter drone carrying 01 M4 carbine machine (US Made), 02 filled magazines (60 Rds), 07 Chinese grenades.”

According to the Press Trust of India the drone was spotted by an Indian patrol at 12.40am BST.

It was allegedly then shot down 250 meters inside the Indian side of the border.

The BSF has launched an investigation to find out who the arms being carried by the drone were intended for.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It appears that the world is in the convulsive grasp of a frenzied war fever, which is escalating way out of control.

Pakistan and China are diplomatically, and militarily very close; the US, under President Obama, signed a military logistics agreement with India in 2016 U.S., India sign military logistics agreement

The article mentioning this states the following: " The United States and India signed an agreement on Monday governing the use of each other’s land, air and naval bases for repair and resupply, a step toward building defense ties as they seek to counter the growing maritime assertiveness of China."

Pakistan is not mentioned; but if India and Pakistan go to war, and China is militarily supporting Pakistan, while the US is militarily supporting India, this means that we may well be looking at a proxy war against China, through supporting India against Pakistan.

DANG! We need some "adults in the room" of geopolitics to get these tensions ratcheted down, and quickly, before something irretrievably stupid happens here., with things already on a hair's trigger.

Indian Troops Given 'Fire At Will' Orders Against Chinese Troops If Threatened, Enraging Beijing

Beijing is enraged over current widespread Indian media reports that the Indian Army has been given orders to shoot or use "complete freedom of action" in hostile engagements with Chinese PLA forces along the disputed Ladakh border region.

The reports come following last week's major border incident with China that resulted in 20 Indian Army troops killed, and an undisclosed number of Chinese PLA casualties in the disputed Galwan Valley area of East Ladakh.

Chinese state-media Global Times editor Hu Xijin called out the reports, saying that if the new 'rules of engagement' are true, it's a serious violation of prior treaties implemented for deescalation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF true, this marks a serious escalation on India's behalf, and I would encourage its leadership to be taking the polar opposite tack vis-a-vis China, and right the heck now.

India Seeks Rapid Purchase Of 33 Russian Fighter Jets In Response To Chinese Border Fight

India is reportedly seeking to beef up military purchases from Russia following last week's major border incident with China that resulted in 20 Indian Army troops killed, and an undisclosed number of Chinese PLA casualties in the disputed Galwan Valley area of East Ladakh.

Indian government sources were cited in New Delhi-based ANI News Agency as saying "the Indian Air Force (IAF) has pushed a proposal to the government for acquiring 33 new fighter aircraft, including 21 MiG-29s and 12 Su-30MKIs from Russia."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Two nuclear-armed neighbors, at each others' throats, does not augur well for peace, either in the region, or in the world; I am hoping - and praying - that SOMEONE, hopefully, an "adult in the room" with some geopolitical integrity left (that sure as HELL leaves out President Trump), is working the phones intensely between New Dehli and Beijing, to ratchet the tensions down here, and encouraging the leadership of both countries to enact some confidence-building measures here.

China Conducts Military 'Show Of Force' Drills With Tanks Near Indian Border

Both China and India have signaled they are seeking to deescalate soaring tensions along the disputed and loosely demarcated Line of Actual Control (LAC) which separates Indian-controlled territory from Chinese-controlled territory along Ladakh and the Chinese Tibet Autonomous Region.

This after on Monday night the deadliest border clash in a half-century erupted, after which the Indian Army confirmed 20 of its troops killed after being critically wounded followed by being “exposed to sub-zero temperatures in the high altitude terrain.” Though the Chinese side has yet to give details of PLA casualties, Indian media has widely reported that over 40 "enemy" soldiers were killed.

Though political leaders on both sides have said they don't want to stoke tensions possibly leading to outbreak of war, Chinese state media CCTV announced military drills designed as a 'show of force'. RT Arabic subsequently republished video of the undated exercises near the Line of Actual Control.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is absolutely a very clear demonstrations of actions being louder than words; I would like to continue to hope that SOMEONE, one of the "adults in the room" in world geopolitics, with some real credibility in morally tough conflict resolution, is going to step up to the plate, and will work the phones between Beijing and New Dehli, and convince leadership to start a meaningful show of de-escalation here.

Unfortunately, that definitely leaves out President Trump, who has succeeded in creating a ginormous moral vacuum in US foreign policy, courtesy of an absolute tsunami of bad decision making, on the part of himself, and his administration.

There is a companion piece, also in zerohedge.com this morning, with the following headline: More Details Are Emerging About The India-China Border Clash The article goes on to state:

"uthored by Christophe Barraud

More details are emerging about the violent clash on Monday night along a disputed border between India and China high in the Himalayas, which has led to renewed tensions between the two countries. The incident came despite India and China have started to pull back their forces along the border after talks between senior military officials, according to India’s Army Chief Manoj Mukund Naravane on June 13.

According to Bloomberg, “in near sub-zero temperatures in the thin air of 15,000 feet, Chinese and Indian soldiers attacked each other with stones, iron rods and bamboo poles wrapped in barbed wire laced with nails. It is not clear what started the clashes, but by the time they were finished 20 Indian soldiers were dead, along with an unknown number of Chinese casualties.” CNN also confirmed that “they fought with fists, stones, and nail-studded bamboo poles.”

Indian PM Orders to Stock Up War Reserves, Deployment of Assets After Violent Face-Off With China

New Delhi (Sputnik): Amid simmering tensions along the Line of Actual Control, unprecedented border clashes erupted between India and China in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh on Monday night. The face-off led to casualties and injuries on both the sides.

In a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last night, the nation's armed forces have been given additional power to stock up war reserves. A green light has also been given to the Indian Navy to deploy its assets in the Strait of Malacca region where it can counter Chinese warships. The Strait of Malacca is one of the world's major maritime choke-points and a primary shipping route for Chinese vessels.

Chinese Forces Kill 3 Indian Troops During First Deadly Border Clash In Nearly 50 Years

Following days of escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, Indian Army officials confirmed that three troops - an officer and two soldiers, to be more precise - had been gunned down by Chinese forces during a "violent faceoff" in Galwan Valley in the Ladakh region, which rests along the country's border with China on Monday night.

A statement from the Indian Army says both sides were meeting to diffuse tensions building up on the border in the last several weeks. Other reports indicate the soldiers weren't shot but had been killed during a rock-throwing melee reminiscent of another border incident back in May, where both sides reported injuries.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Will a couple of "adults in the room" with some geopolitical integrity left, please start working the phones between New Dehli and Beijing, and get the leadership of these two countries to "cool it"?!?

Two nuclear armed neighbors on the cusp of war is double-plus ungood for the whole world-right now, and China has a defense/trade pact with Pakistan China's Belt and Road plan in Pakistan takes a Distinctly Military Turnwhich could mean if things here go "mammary glands vertical", we have China and Pakistan fighting against India, which is under treaty with the US *(from the Obama Administration) to have access to 99% of US defense technology. This is utterly NOT headed in a good direction, and unfortunately, this Administration has completely bungled its relations with almost every country in the world, save Israel.

China and India Brawl at 14,000 Feet Along the Border

No shots have been fired, as the de facto border code dictates, but the soldiers have fought fiercely with rocks, wooden clubs and their hands in a handful of clashes. In one melee at the glacial lake Pangong Tso, several Indian troops were hurt badly enough that they had to be evacuated by helicopter, and Indian analysts said Chinese troops were injured as well.

Nobody thinks China and India are about to go to war. But the escalating buildup has turned into their most serious confrontation since 2017 and may be a sign of more trouble to come as the world’s two most populous countries increasingly bump up against each other in one of the bleakest and most remote borderlands on earth.

President Trump, unsolicited, stepped in on Wednesday, offering on Twitter to mediate what he called “a raging border dispute.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

I can fully understand why both China and India are treating President Trump as though he were Kryptonite; because unfortunately, on both the national and international stages, he has been, throughout much of his first term as President.

But SOMEONE with some geopolitical integrity left (Sergei Lavrov, are you "feelin' me" this morning?!?) needs to be "working the phones" between Beijing and New Delhi, and ratcheting down the tension here, because one stupid blunder on either side could send this region into a smoldering "hot war" in a heartbeat.

Authored by James Rickards via The Daily Reckoning,Remember the pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong against Chinese authoritarianism?

And U.S.-Chinese relations could get even worse than they are right now.

Are you prepared for a bumpy ride?

Let’s unpack this…

Last year’s protests came in response to a proposed law that would have allowed the extradition of Hong Kong residents to Beijing for trial on charges that arose in Hong Kong.

That would have deprived Hong Kong residents of legal protections in local law and subjected prisoners to torture and summary execution.

The legislation was proposed by Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam, who many consider a puppet of Beijing.

The demonstrations grew exponentially, ultimately involving hundreds of thousands of protesters.

The list of demands also grew to include more democracy and freedom and adherence to Hong Kong’s rule of law.

Due to social media, these protests were seen around the world.

The proposed bill behind the original protests was scrapped last October, which was a victory for the pro-democracy protesters.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word, please; there is nothing you can do directly to assist the people of Hong Kong.

Yes, we understand that you are waging an asymmetric war against China, encouraging separatist movements when you can to run counter to the Communist Party rule.

Xi Jing Pin has just encouraged his military to be ready to immediately "prepare for war" ‘Prepare for war’: China’s Xi Jinping tells army to thwart coronavirus impact on national security The article goes on to state: "Xi Jinping’s speech comes amid rising tension with the US, frequent references by local politicians and diplomats of reunifying Taiwan. Tension is also escalating with India with troops from the two countries clashing along different areas along the 3,488 kilometre-long disputed border."

Mr. President, this is a lousy time to escalate here; we don't have the weaponry; the troop strength; or the manufacturing, in this war-weary, war-skeptical nation. We need to focus on getting this economy opened up, and quickly, and taking care of the people here at home, many of whom have been thrown out of formerly secure work, while major executives have give themselves big bonuses before declaring corporate bankruptcy.

We need to focus on right here, and right now, for as long as you can.

CHINESE, INDIAN TROOPS ENGAGE IN 150-STRONG BORDER BRAWL WITH FISTFIGHTS AND STONE THROWING, DELHI SAYS

The Indian army has said that its troops engaged in a mass brawl with Chinese soldiers at a remote mountainous border output, resulting in multiple minor injuries.

The fight—involving some 150 people, according to the Press Trust of India—broke out at a border post in a strategically important mountain pass near Tibet on Saturday, AFP reported.

The two nations share a contested border around 2,520 miles long, which winds through some of the most inhospitable terrain on Earth and is a point of regular dispute. In 1962, the two nations fought a war over the border disagreement.

Saturday's confrontation took place in the Naku La sector of the border, close to the Nathu La crossing in the northeastern state of Sikkim, which sits at an altitude of some 15,000 feet.

Indian army eastern command spokesperson Mandeep Hooda said: "Aggressive behaviour by the two sides resulted in minor injuries to troops. It was stone-throwing and arguments that ended in a fistfight."

Webmaster's Commentary:

To Beijing and New Dehli, please; this is the last confrontation this planet needs right now.

I would like to hope that some "adults in the room" on both sides of the border issue can, and will, prevail, doing this border resolution with intelligent, "win/win", honorable negotiations from both sides.

Apple To Move A Fifth Of iPhone Production From China To India In Massive Supply-Chain Shift

One reason why the global economy will never be the same after the coronavirus pandemic is long forgotten, is that supply-chains - which have been in place for decades, taking advantage of China's cheap labor costs and keeping global inflation in check - are being gutted and overhauled, in many cases from scratch.

A perfect example of this is Apple's quiet transition away from China and into the country that is emerging as the next labor superpower: India. According to Inc42, "Apple is looking to move nearly a fifth of its iPhone and other electronics production capacity from China to India to get benefits under the Indian government’s production-linked incentives (PLI) scheme", which was launched to incentivize local handset manufacturing and exports.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is one heck of a huge move on the part of Apple.

No, the US Isn’t Going to Dump India over Its Atrocious Treatment of Minorities

There’s been a lot of speculation that the US might be preparing to dump India over its atrocious treatment of minorities after the official White House Twitter account stopped following several Indian government ones including Prime Minister Modi’s and the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom recommended blacklisting the South Asian state, but that scenario is extremely unlikely since America envisages its new junior partner functioning as a long-term counterweight to China in both the military and economic domains, which certainly takes strategic precedence over punishing the country for its human rights abuses.

For What Narendra Modi Has Unleashed on His Country’s Poor a Just Punishment Distinct From a Painful Death Does Not Exist

While the world over people have grown myopic worrying about the real or imagined problem to do with corona-virus in their immediate surroundings, the world’s biggest prison has been erected. 1.38 billion people are in a complete house-arrest, with no possibility of leaving home. In scale, this is by far the first in human history.

I am not talking about China. When faced with the first wave of corona-virus, China focused mostly on Wuhan and other hotspots. It didn’t see a need to lockdown the whole country. Moreover, it didn’t think it could get away with that.

Any regime that contemplated locking down the whole country would have realized that not only would it create massive disruption, joblessness, poverty, and dislocation, but also that restarting the economy would be a gargantuan job. Farmers would have found themselves with no money to buy seeds and banks with no cash to lend out, and everyone in a vicious economic cycle.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Vlad Putin and Sergei Lavrov, courtesy telephone, and place those calls right the heck now, please, gentlemen!!

The US government, which had some degree of reputation for being an "adult in the room" in times past, is now mired by the consequences of its war crimes internationally, coupled with fiscal and medical crises at home, and has no real credibility in the world of geopolitics, other than the magnitude of damage its weapons may cause, when unleashed.

So gentlemen, you need to be working the phones with Islamabad and New Dehli, and right the heck now; to have two neighboring, nuclear-armed countries glowering at each other, with religiously-frenzied maniacs in both countries advocating for total war against the other, is not going to resolve anything, except to potentially turn a regional war into a world war, and this cannot be allowed to stand.

‘Fauci Can’t Possibly Know Covid-19 Is 10x Deadlier Than Flu’ — Dr. Bhattacharya of Stanford in Superb Video Interview

“He doesn’t know. He can’t now, because nobody has done the serologic test of how many people in the population have antibodies to the virus. So that’s what you need to know. So he can’t know that, nobody knows that. So he’s reflecting his guess on what that is and I’m relecting my guess on what it is. The fact is neither of us know, neither of us know that number because there’s no scientific study yet done to establish that number in any broad population.”

Also explains the choice we are facing is “not just dollars versus lives, it’s lives versus lives,” since a “global economic collapse will cost the lives of millions of people.” He says he is “scared to death” what the economic harakiri we are committing will do to India where he still has cousins.

Pakistan is hit by its worst locust plague in 30 years: Insect swarms DECIMATE entire harvests as country declares nationwide emergency

Pakistan's farmers are struggling to combat the worst locust plague in nearly three decades as insect swarms decimate entire harvests in the country's agricultural heartlands and send food prices soaring.

Heavy rains and cyclones sparked 'unprecedented' breeding and the explosive growth of locust populations on the Arabian peninsula early last year, according to the United Nations.

The insects have since fanned out and wreaked havoc on farms from East Africa to India before making their way into Pakistan from the desert on the country's southwestern border with Iran.

The crisis is so severe that the government has declared a nationwide emergency and urgently appealed for help from the international community.

Pakistan court gives green light to women's march - with conditions

A Pakistani court on Tuesday gave the go-ahead to the country’s largest women’s rights event but told organisers to ensure participants adhere to “decency and moral values”.

The country-wide event, known as Aurat March, using the Urdu word for women, has been attended by tens of thousands over the last two years to mark International Women’s Day on March 8.

A court in Lahore was petitioned last month to place restrictions on the organisers and participants of the march, whom the complainant said had an agenda to “spread anarchy, vulgarity, blasphemy and hatred” against Islam.

The court told organisers to consult local officials to finalise arrangements for the event, which campaigns for reclaiming space for women as well as the LGBT community.

Global watchdogs have expressed concern in recent years over what they see as a growing clampdown on rights campaigns in Pakistan.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The organisers have to see these threats coming, and do their best to counter them, as peacefully and responsibly as is humanly possible. MARCHERS, PLEASE HAVE THE HORSE-SENSE TO PROTECT EACH OTHER HERE!!

As these documented stories go, the level of violence against Pakistani women, is horrific. From Wikipedia, we have the following statistics:

"According to a study carried out in 2009 by Human Rights Watch, it is estimated that between 20 and 30 percent of women in Pakistan have suffered some form of abuse. An estimated 5000 women are killed per year from domestic violence, with thousands of others maimed or disabled."
