Netanyahu Still Seeking Defense Minister’s Approval for Annexation: Likud sources say Netanyahu is looking to dissolve coalition government

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that he is still seeking approval of his annexation plan by Defense Minister Benny Gantz, a requirement to gain the Trump administration’s support. Officials from Gantz’s Blue and White party have said they cannot approve a plan until Netanyahu properly outlines one.

Speaking at a recent meeting with his Likud party, Netanyahu said he doesn’t have a map ready. “I wanted to bring annexation for approval soon, but the map isn’t ready yet,” Netanyahu said. The prime minister also said he is not sure where the Blue and White party stands.

The “peace plan” released by the Trump administration in January called for Israeli sovereignty over settlements in the West Bank and parts of the Jordan Valley, an area making up approximately one-third of the West Bank. The plan was immediately rejected by Palestinians, but Netanyahu intends on going through with the annexation and is looking to start on July 1st.

Webmaster's Commentary:

That Netanyahu is so hell-bent on doing this starting 1 July, to the point of potentially even dissolving the coalition government, and risking yet another election where nothing really gets sorted, is more than a little scary, both for Israel and the Middle East in general.

Today is 16 June, so Netanyahu has precisely 14 days to pull this "map" together; is he considering doing this without a map, possibly?!?

He is still facing those corruption charges, which are not going away, making him "geopolitically wounded" in Israel; and no animal, or human, is more dangerous than when they are wounded, either physically... or with humans, geopolitically.

This is a very dangerous time for Israel; I hope that there are some "adults in the room" in the Knesset, telling him, "Bibi, not so fast here on this annexation, please!!"

It sure looks like Trump and Adelson have cut a deal on annexation

So far, the Adelsons have gotten everything they’ve wanted from our transactional president: tearing up the Iran deal, moving the embassy to Jerusalem, defunding Palestinians, recognizing the Golan annexation, treating settlement expansion as legitimate, etc. Right up to yesterday — a Trump attack on the ICC in the name of Israel. As Trump once said when a Republican rival was getting Adelson’s money, Adelson wanted a “perfect little puppet.”

Most important, the Adelsons got the Trump “peace plan,” which paves the way for annexation of the West Bank. When Trump announced his “vision,” there they were in the front row.

Look at it from Trump’s point of view. He doesn’t care about peace in the Middle East or Palestinian human rights. He wants one thing, to win in November, and he needs money.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So that is why this annexation is being rushed to 1 July, and with potentially deadly consequences for Palestinians.

Israeli Defense Minister Preparing for Annexation of West Bank

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said on Monday that he ordered the military to start preparing for the coming annexation of parts of the West Bank. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans on annexing Israeli settlements in the West Bank, and parts of the Jordan Valley, a plan bound to face backlash from Palestinians. Netanyahu promised to start cabinet talks on annexation on July 1st.

The areas Israel plans to annex reflects the blueprint of President Trump’s “peace plan” that was released in January. The plan was immediately rejected by Palestinians since it includes the annexation of the Jordan Valley and illegal settlements. The plan also includes Israeli-only access roads in the West Bank, and would essentially legitimize apartheid rule.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Years ago, in various posts on this site, I warned Hamas and Fatah that if all they could accomplish was arguing among themselves, the hunk of land that they would get, to be able to establish a functional Palestine, would be smaller than Lichtenstein; now, because of the way the settlements have been engineered, coupled with this annexation, the Palestinians won't even have that, because there are no more contiguous borders for Palestine.

Folks, this "timetable" for annexation is less than one month away; this is most probably going to get ugly before it's a fait accompli.

Armed Israeli Settlers Set Palestinian Farmlands on Fire near Tulkarem

Several armed Israeli colonists set fire to Palestinian farm lands, east of the northern West Bank city of Tulkarem, early on Thursday, near the illegal Annab colonial settlement, which was built on the lands of Ramin village.

Local Palestinian farmers told media outlets that the armed settlers set fire to tens of fruitful trees, with the Israeli occupation army soldiers present and providing protection to the assailants.

Local farmer, Emad Salman, was quoted as saying that the arson led to the burning of tens of olive trees and almond trees in Palestinian farm lands, estimated at 12 acres.

Israel fires on Gaza fishers 100 times amid pandemic

Israeli navy attacks on Gaza fishers spiked in April against the backdrop of increased economic uncertainty in the besieged territory amid COVID-19 restrictions.

Spring is the sardine fishing season, one of the most profitable harvests for Gaza fishers. Israel’s use of lethal force against Gaza fishers, particularly at a peak season, further undermines the fishing industry and food security in the coastal territory.

Gaza has been under a tightened Israeli blockade since 2007, severely debilitating its economy and plunging the territory’s two million residents, most of whom are refugees, into widespread poverty.

Remembering 72 years of the Nakba in the shadow of annexation

When Palestinians commemorate the Nakba - the ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948 - they are not simply remembering a past event in which over 750,000 Palestinians were expelled from their homeland, over 400 villages and towns destroyed and thousands killed.
They are also marking a continued Nakba (al-Nakba al-Mustimirrah in Arabic) - an ongoing process of erasure and ethnic cleansing which has seen Palestinians ghettoised, fragmented, killed and more.

This year we will be marking 72 years of the Nakba and yet one word seems to be taking front and centre stage: annexation. Ever since the announcement of US President Donald Trump's 'Deal of the Century' at the end of January this year, formal annexation of the occupied West Bank by Israel has been looming.

Indeed, it is rumoured that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to Netanyahu on Wednesday was to give the green light for the annexation of the Jordan Valley.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Since there will be no "two state solution" because of this annexation, the best for which Palestinians can hope, and advocate, (peacefully), is the right to vote, in this new Erez Israel.

And THAT has to happen for the Palestinian people just as quickly as is humanly possible.

Israel wrecks efforts to halt spread of COVID-19

It has been two months since the occupied West Bank went into coronavirus lockdown and rural Palestinian towns and villages have been disproportionately impacted by the disease.

The virus was first diagnosed in the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem in early March. Since then, it has spread to districts across the West Bank, with many new cases being reported outside of major cities.

The Palestinian Authority’s jurisdiction only really covers 18 percent of the West Bank. Known as Area A, that zone includes such cities as Ramallah, Bethlehem, Jenin and Nablus.

Although the PA is theoretically responsible for security in these cities, Israel has often subjected them to military raids – with the acquiescence of the world’s most powerful governments and institutions.

How We Became Refugees: The Day My Grandfather Lost His Village in Palestine

Starting on March 27, 1948, a beautiful, small Palestinian village called Beit Daras, came under Zionist militias attacks. With little means – a few old rifles and kitchen knives – the Badrasawis fought back, repelling the first raid and the second. The final attack on the peaceful village followed a scorched-earth military strategy, leaving in its wake scores of dead and wounded, and the entirety of the village on the run. Among the thousands of ethnically-cleansed Palestinians in Beit Daras, a family of six, including an infant, salvaged a few old blankets and some supplies and went searching for a safe place, with the hope that they would return home in a few days. Their nearly one hundred descendants are yet to return to Beit Daras, 72 years later.

Report: Israel wants to buy Palestinians’ silence ahead of annexation

Military analyst for Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, Alex Fishman, said yesterday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is planning to buy the Palestinians’ silence over the annexation of Palestinian-held territories with “cash”.

Fishman said, while the new Israeli government is being formed, the scheduled annexation is nearing and Israel is using money to soften the Palestinians’ reaction over its plan to annex swaths of the occupied West Bank.

According to Fishman, as Israeli occupation forces arrest Palestinians during overnight raids in an effort to stop mass protests as a result of the plans to seize the Palestinian land, the government is offering to revive and nourish the Palestinian economy with hand-outs to placate Palestinians.

Church leaders warn against Israel plans to annex West Bank

Moving forwards with an Israeli plan to unilaterally annex West Bank land will destroy any chance for peace, warned church leaders in Jerusalem.

The Anglican archbishop in Jerusalem, Suheil Dawani, is one of 13 senior church leaders to put their names to the statement calling on Israel not to unilaterally annex land in the occupied West Bank.

These proposed annexations, promised by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his election campaign, have been heavily criticised by humanitarian organisations and the international community.

‘Israel can’t erase the Nakba from history’

Today is the anniversary of what we Palestinians refer to as the Nakba, our catastrophe – although a single word cannot begin to explain it, and a single day cannot begin to commemorate it.

More than ever before, Israel needs come to terms with the horrors it has caused since 1948, by ending its subjugation of millions rather than intensifying its denial and trying to legitimize its persecution. Peace can only come through justice and reconciliation.

This day, in 1948, marks the forced exile of over 750,000 Palestinians from their homes and lands. Some were subjected to brutal massacres, many fled for fear of their lives. A few managed to stay in what would become Israel. All suffered. Sixty-six years later, all continue to suffer.

The Nakba is a story of fear and intimidation, of denial and persecution, a cruel, unending reality.

Arabs, UN Must Move To Swiftly Protect the Status of Palestinian Refugees

"Heinous racism," is how the Geneva-based Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor described a recent decision by Lebanese authorities to bar Palestinian refugee expats from returning to Lebanon.

Lebanon’s restrictions on its ever-diminishing population of Palestinian refugees is nothing new. However, this event is particularly alarming as it may be linked to a long-term official policy regarding the residency status of Palestinian refugees in this Arab country.

Senior US official warns Palestinians

The Trump administration does not view the new Israeli government's July 1 deadline to begin the process of applying sovereignty over Judea and Samaria as a "do or die" date, a senior US official told Barak Ravid of Channel 13 News on Tuesday.

The coalition deal that allowed Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to form a new government says he can bring "the understandings with the Trump administration" on sovereignty up for a vote in the cabinet or in the Knesset as early as July 1 — but only with the full agreement of the White House.

The report comes as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will arrive in Jerusalem on Wednesday to meet with Netanyahu, incoming Minister of Defense Benny Gantz, and incoming Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabi Ashkenazi.

Pompeo was non-committal on the timetable for sovereignty in an interview published on Tuesday in the Israel Hayom newspaper, saying that the decision to apply sovereignty is Israel’s to make.

Pompeo, Netanyahu ‘two mobsters’ plotting Palestine’s eradication: Analyst

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s visit to Israel to discuss the Zionist regime’s planned annexation of the West Bank region with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is like the gathering of two “mobsters” plotting to eradicate Palestinians from their indigenous homeland, says an American political analyst.

Rodney Martin, a former congressional staffer based in Arizona, made the comment during a phone interview with Press TV on Monday, while commenting on an announcement by the US State Department that Pompeo will visit the occupied territories on Wednesday to discuss “regional security issues” linked to “Iran’s malign influence” as well as the Israeli annexation of much of the West Bank.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately the guy is entirely correct in his assessment here.

Palestinians have, for far too long, been "saddled" with leadership which would neither lead, or work to achieve some kind of status for Palestinians, other than being "the others" in Israeli-occupied Palestinian land, enriching themselves in the process.

A number of years ago I posted that if Palestinian leadership continued arguing among themselves, if there was ever a Post-Balfour Declaration of an actual state of Palestine, it wouldn't be even the size of Lichtenstein; now even that possibility has been completely destroyed, and the US "blessing' for this annexation is not helpful in any way.

And could someone please explain to me precisely how this "malign Iranian influence" could possibly hurt Israel's security, in any way, shape, or form?!? Israel is a nuclear armed nation, with one of the most impressive military and weaponry capabilities in the world, for heaven's sake!!

Iran is not a threat here; in fact, many Iranian Jews living there do not want to "make aliyah" to Israel, because they are perfectly content to be where they are. Celebrating Sabbath With Iran's Jewish Minority

The only "threat" here, is economic, and definitely not existential, between Israel and Iran. Netanyahu could, should he feel like it, create a peace and trade treaty with the government in Tehran, and come home to a hero's welcome, but that won't happen until pigs fly; unfortunately, the Israeli government loves to create an atmosphere of fear among their citizens, belligerently reminding them in no uncertain terms, that there are always things to be feared from their Muslim neighbors, particularly the Iranians.

Israel's grudge with Iran has to do with it having not only survived the 1979 revolution, but actually thriving economically, in spite of US-engendered sanctions.

Holy Land: Heads of Churches Voice Concern About Israel’s Planned Annexation of West Bank Land

As a result of the stagnation of the Peace Process in the Middle East between the Israelis and Palestinians, an array of plans for Israel to unilaterally annex West Bank land, backed mainly by right-wing factions, raises serious and catastrophic questions about the feasibility of any peaceful agreement to end the decades’ long conflict, one that continues to cost many innocent lives as part of a vicious cycle of human tragedy and injustice.

The Council of Patriarchs and Heads of the Holy Land Churches views such unilateral annexation plans with the utmost concern and calls upon the State of Israel to refrain from such unilateral moves, which would bring about the loss of any remaining hope for the success of the peace process.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I think it was very brave, indeed, for these men to sign their names to this document; both brave, and extraordinarily naive.

And I say this because, throughout its history, Israel has shown no genuine appetite for peace, whatsoever, but only for territory, and by any means necessary.

When this annexation happens, look for massive Palestinian deaths and maimings at the hands of Israel's IDF; their sharpshooters are among some of the best in the world at blowing up childrens' limbs, killing them outright, or maiming them in such a way that they will never fully recover, no matter whether or not they were innocent of any alleged "crime".‘I remember the knee in the crosshairs, bursting open’ – Israeli snipers boast of shooting ‘ducks’ in Gaza

To the Palestinians whose lands are being annexed, you must begin to (peacefully) demand the right to vote in Israel; because without the vote, in these new areas of Israel, you will have zero say in the decisions which will affect your daily lives, and those of your kids.

Israel government swearing-in delayed a day by Pompeo visit: officials

The swearing-in of Israel's new unity government has been postponed by one day to Thursday due to the upcoming visit of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, officials said.
A parliament spokesman said the joint administration of incumbent premier Benjamin Netanyahu and his former rival Benny Gantz would be inaugurated on Thursday instead of Wednesday.

A spokesman for Netanyahu's right-wing Likud party told AFP the delay was "because of the visit" of the US top diplomat on Wednesday.

Pompeo's trip comes as US President Donald Trump's administration gives its blessing to Netanyahu's plans to annex much of the occupied West Bank, despite warnings from the Palestinians that the move will kill the prospects of a long-term peace agreement.

Israel's new government is the result of a deal allowing Netanyahu to continue on as prime minister for another 18 months, before the former military chief Gantz takes over the post for the same period.

Webmaster's Commentary:

To the Palestinians whose lands are being annexed in this move, please remember what the most important thing your (alleged) leadership can do right now; peacefully negotiate for the right to vote in Israeli elections, when this land becomes Israel's by decree in July.

Otherwise, this annexation will, most assuredly, produce for you a series of Israeli "Bantustans" like those of the old apartheid government of South Africa, where Africans who were not of European descent, were unable to vote, or have any meaningful participation in decisions affecting their lives whatsoever.

US support for Israel’s annexation plan spells war: Analyst

An American political expert has said that Washington's unrelenting support for the Israeli policy of annexing Palestinian lands will culminate in a war in the Middle East and that the conflict could claim tens of thousands of American lives.

Mark Dankof, a journalist and former US Senate candidate, made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV on Friday while commenting on the Israeli annexation of Palestinian lands and the convention of a UN Security Council meeting to address the issue later this month.

Colonial Settlers Uproot Hundreds of Grapevines In Bethlehem

Israeli colonial settlers in the occupied West Bank city of Bethlehem, reportedly uprooted hundreds of newly-planted grapevines, south of the city.

Breega further noted that local farmer, Sobaih, has frequently been exposed to Israeli settlers’ attacks, with Israeli troops guarding the illegal settlers.

Israel’s unity government ushers in endgame for two states

It took one year, three elections and a global pandemic, but Israel finally has a new government, and this time, it is one with a broader mandate than any other in recent memory.

This is mostly thanks to Benny Gantz who repeatedly said that he would not join a government led by Benjamin Netanyahu, only to join a Netanyahu-led government at the third time of asking.

He did so under the pretext of creating an emergency government to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. But this is not a government established to deal with any emergency. This is a government with the specific brief of determining when and over what further areas of territory occupied in 1967 Israel will start applying its sovereignty.

US Embassy: Israeli West Bank Annexation Can Move Forward Without A Palestinian State

The recently established US Embassy in Jerusalem (moved from Tel Aviv last year as part of Trump's plan) has confirmed that the world will soon see the most controversial element of Trump's peace plan put into effect: Israeli annexation over broad swathes of the West Bank, particularly the Jordan Valley.

“As we have made consistently clear, we are prepared to recognize Israeli actions to extend Israeli sovereignty and the application of Israeli law to areas of the West Bank that the [Trump peace plan] foresees as being part of the State of Israel,” a top US Embassy official told the Times of Israel on Friday.

The statement made clear that "Israeli actions" will be validated with or without recognition of a Palestinian state, something which on paper at least Trump's 'deal of the century' offered.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Just terrific; President Trump embraces' Netanyahu's "vision" for a non-two state solution, and applauds brisk annexation of the West Bank, and Jordan Valley.

So, what will be the status of Palestinians still stuck in those areas, with utterly no place to go?!?

Will they be granted some kind of at least "token citizenship", or something horrifically worse, like the "
bantustans" of apartheid South Africa?!?

Because, if the Israeli government thinks that they can get away with something like this, with Trump's sincere support for such a process, they will at least try.

I would like to remind all our readers of what this was like for Black South Africans, in apartheid South Africa:

Life in Apartheid-Era South Africa

The article goes on to state:

"South Africa's apartheid is a familiar concept the world over. But what did it actually look like?

Established in 1948 under the racialist National Party, apartheid not only meant separate and inferior public services, benches and building entrances for non-whites. It also stripped South African blacks of their citizenship (placing them into tribally-based bantustans instead) and abolished all non-white political representation."

To the Palestinian, and other Arab leaders in Israel; have you actually thought about how peaceful Palestinian representation will happen, when Israel completely prevents the establishment of a two-state solution?!?!?
Because you had better start thinking about that, right the heck now, because it appears that within a short window of three months, this is precisely what is going to happen.

The initiative lasted for two days and only 100 samples were tested at one of the army’s bases on the fringe of the besieged Gaza Strip. Soldiers had announced last week that they would carry out 50 coronavirus tests per day on samples from the Gaza Strip at the army laboratory in Tzrifin. EU backs off warning to Israel over West Bank annexation

The European Union has apparently backed off its threat to impose consequences on Israel if it moves to annex more occupied West Bank land.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Blue and White party leader Benny Gantz reached an agreement to form a coalition after a year of political stalemate and three general elections.

The coalition agreement includes a commitment that the Israeli government and parliament will, from July, proceed with votes to annex large parts of the West Bank.

New report details how the Israeli occupation is exploiting the COVID-19 crisis

Since the coronavirus outbreak shut down large swaths of Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory early last month, countless reports of Israeli violations of Palestinian rights have surfaced during the pandemic.

From continued home demolitions and displacement, arrest raids, violent confrontations with Palestinian communities, and settler attacks, Israeli authorities have been criticized for ramping up their occupation activities in violation of global health recommendations.

The Who Profits research center has released a new report entitled Viral Occupation, detailing how the Israeli occupation is compounding the devastating impact of COVID-19 on the occupied Palestinian territory.

The Occupation and the Pandemic: The Coronavirus and the Conditions of Palestinian Workers

This past month Israeli soldiers dumped a Palestinian worker at a checkpoint on the border of the West Bank, shivering from fever and barely able to breathe. According to Middle East Eye, he “had been showing signs of the coronavirus over the past four days, and was recently tested for the virus. But before the man, allegedly a resident of Nablus, could receive his test results, his Israeli employer reportedly called the authorities, who picked him up and dropped him on the other side of the Beit Sira checkpoint, which connects central Israel and the occupied West Bank.” “It’s like we are slaves to them,” says a local Palestinian, “They use us when they need us, and when they are finished, they throw us away like trash.” Since the crisis began Israeli soldiers have actively obstructed the emergency response for Palestinians by shutting down multiple clinics and continuing their practice of arbitrary house demolitions.

Netanyahu/Gantz Unity Deal… Safeguarding Israel’s “Democracy”. Annexation of West Bank Ongoing

A weeks earlier agreement between them collapsed, a new unity deal struck.

Netanyahu prevailed. Gantz’s surrender to his demands split his Blue and White (B &W) party.

It may have ended his chance to become prime minister, his political career perhaps ruined by reportedly agreeing to most Netanyahu demands — a Gantz Versailles as things now stand.

On Monday night, capitulation was formalized, a “national emergency government” formed, ending over a year of political stalemate.

Gantz tweeted the following:

“We prevented fourth elections. We’ll safeguard democracy” (that’s nonexistent under apartheid rule).

“We’ll fight the coronavirus and look out for all Israeli citizens. We have a national emergency government.”

Netanyahu remains prime minister at least for the next 18 months, Gantz to serve as deputy PM and war minister with veto power over who’ll serve as Knesset speaker, Gantz ally Gabi Ashkenazi (another former IDF chief) to be foreign minister.

Israeli settlers unleash cattle on Palestinian-owned farmlands

Israeli colonial settlers unleashed their cattle, on Wednesday, onto Palestinian-owned farmlands in the northern Alghour area of the Jordan Valley, in the West Bank. Local legal activist, Aref Daraghma, told Palestinian Wafa News Agency that tens of cows were released onto farmlands of wheat and barley, in the Umm al-Qaba village in the Alghour area. The legal activist believed that those cattle, which belong to Israeli colonists, living nearby, have been herded excessively, causing large quantities of wheat and barley to be destroyed. Palestinian farmlands have recently been frequently exposed to attacks by nearby illegal Israeli settlers in the Alghour area of the Jordan Valley, which is considered to be a rich farming region.

Unity deal allows PM to begin advancing West Bank annexation from July 1

The unity government agreement inked on Monday by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Blue and White chairman Benny Gantz will allow Israel to initiate legislation to annex large parts of the West Bank starting in the beginning of July.

According to clause 29 of the deal, Netanyahu “will be able to bring the agreement reached with the US on the application of sovereignty [in the West Bank]… for the approval of the cabinet and/or the Knesset starting July 1, 2020.”

Setting out two legislative paths to enact annexation, the deal appears to provide Netanyahu with an alternative route if he fails to gain a majority for annexation in the cabinet, where some half of the ministers will be Blue and White members. It is more likely to pass in the Knesset given that the right-wing Likud, Yamina, Yisrael Beytenu, United Torah Judaism and Shas parties, which all have voiced support for annexation, hold a majority there.

Israeli neglect fuels coronavirus in East Jerusalem

Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem face the prospect of a major coronavirus outbreak, fueled and exacerbated by Israeli neglect.

Despite repeated warnings from health professionals and even Israel’s mayor of Jerusalem Moshe Leon, Israel has done little to prevent an outbreak.

What makes the situation even worse is no one has an accurate picture of how widespread infections are in Palestinian neighborhoods.

“Of increasing concern is the lack of information regarding cases in East Jerusalem, as these are not covered by the Palestinian Ministry of Health and are not disaggregated in the overall figures by the Israeli authorities,” the UN humanitarian coordination agency OCHA said on Tuesday.

There are about 300 confirmed cases in the West Bank, outside Jerusalem, while Israel has recorded more than 12,000 cases.

Gaza has barely any coronavirus test kits

Palestinians under siege in Gaza remain at the mercy of Israel as they face the coronavirus pandemic.

The Gaza Strip ran out of COVID-19 testing kits last week.

Ashraf al-Qedra, the health ministry spokesperson in Gaza, said on 8 April that hundreds of people will remain quarantined as dozens of samples await testing.

On Sunday, Israel allowed five test kits from the World Health Organization into Gaza and testing resumed.

Those would be enough to test 500 people in a population of two million.

“We need to carry out these tests all the time and therefore, we are in need of thousands of testing kits,” al-Qedra said, according to Reuters.

US and Israel team up to thwart war crimes probes

The US secretary of state’s threats to sanction two employees working for the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and their families last month may have been the opening salvoes of a new US-Israel war against the justice body in The Hague.

Both states currently face the embarrassing specter of war crimes investigations by the court – an unprecedented challenge to their impunity. In response, they aim to disempower the court by preventing it from exercising jurisdiction in countries that are not state parties to the Rome Statute, the treaty on which the court was founded.

Should the US and Israel succeed, it would be a significant blow to the court’s independent mandate and purpose as a court of last resort for the victims of the world’s worst human rights abusers.

Israeli Settlers Flood Palestinian Crops with Waste Water in Hebron

Several armed Israeli colonial settlers reportedly caused flooding of Palestinian-owned grape farms, on Monday, in north of the occupied West Bank city of Hebron.

Local Palestinian media activist, Mohammad Awwad, told media outlets that for the second time in a week, several armed settlers from the nearby illegal colonial settlement of Gush Etzion, flooded grape farm lands in the Beit Ummar village, with large quantities of waste water, causing grape trees to flood, causing damage.

Awwad quoted grape farmers from the Palestinian families of Sabarna and Awwad, as saying that armed Israeli settlers have been intentionally flooding their farm lands with large quantities of waste water, over the past few years, causing a great deal of financial losses, due to damage of their grape crops.

Israeli Troops Open Fire on Palestinian Farmers in Southern Gaza

Israeli troops opened fire, early on Sunday morning, on a number of Palestinian farmers in the southern besieged Gaza Strip.

Local Palestinian media sources and witnesses said that Israeli troops, stationed on watch towers, near the border fence with Khuza’a village, southeast of the coastal territory, opened fire with their machine guns indiscriminately towards a number of local farmers, while bending down in labor.

Sources added that the Israeli troops’ fire caused no causalities, but spread panic among farmers, forcing them to leave their farmlands immediately.

Settler attacks rise by 78 percent amid pandemic

There has been a sharp uptick in Israeli settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even after UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for a global ceasefire to obstruct the spread of the pandemic, Israel killed two Palestinians, including a child, and increased its attacks.

Israel continued its “military raids into the West Bank, conducted widespread arrests and administrative detentions, allowed for serious spikes in settler violence and continued its draconian closure of the Gaza Strip,” the Palestinian rights organization Al Haq has stated.

In the last two weeks of March, the number of settler attacks on Palestinians was 78 percent higher than usual, according to the UN monitoring group OCHA.

Palestinian farmers on Tuesday, suffered inhalation injuries during an attack by illegal Israeli settlers in Ash-Shuyukh town, near the occupied West Bank city of Hebron, according to local sources.

Ahmad al-Halayqa, media activist, told Palestinian WAFA News Agency that colonial settlers, under Israeli military protection, attacked Palestinian farmers in She’ib At-Tina and al-Majalis areas in the southern West Bank, in an attempt to force them out of their lands.

Al-Halayaa added that Israeli soldiers fired tear-gas and concussion grenades towards the Palestinian farmers causing some to suffer the toxic effects of tear-gas inhalation.

Palestinian minister files coronavirus complaint, after Israeli police forced him to wear blood-stained mask

A Palestinian minister in occupied East Jerusalem has filed a legal complaint against Israeli police officers who he said beat him, robbed him, assaulted his wife and son, and forced him to wear a blood-stained mask, during a raid on his home last week.

Fadi al-Hidmi, Palestine's minister for Jerusalem affairs, was arrested last Friday by Israeli police, accused of conducting "illegal activities".

Local media reported that the officers smashed down a door to his home and confiscated 10,000 shekels (around $2,750) that had been earmarked for charity during a police raid last week.

On Monday, he filed a complaint against the Israeli police officers who arrested him during the storming of his home, according to Haarez.

Israeli Troops Invade Parts of Gaza with Tanks, Bulldozers

Israeli troops reportedly, incurred earlier on Tuesday, into the northwestern part of the besieged Gaza Strip, with tanks and D-9 bulldozers.

Local media outlets and witnesses said that at least four army bulldozers as well as other armored vehicles, incurred several hundred meters deep into a northwestern part of the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahia.

Witnesses added that the invasion took place from the so-called Zekem Israeli military gate.

They also noted that the invading bulldozers embarked on razing of farm lands adjacent to the Israel-Gaza border fence.

No causalities were reported, but some damage was reported to Palestinian-owned farm lands.

Concurrently, another force of Israeli army invaded the southeastern part of Khan Younis city, southern Gaza Strip.

Witnesses said that the invading force opened heavy fire on residents’ homes and farmers in the area, with no causalities reported.

There are indications that FBI offices across the country were involved in monitoring Americans solely based on their political views.

It also appears likely that these probes were coordinated with or done at the behest of Israel.

Israeli settlers spit on cars to 'infect Palestinians with coronavirus' in Jerusalem

Israeli settlers spat on Palestinian cars in the village of Beit Iksa, northwest of East Jerusalem in what locals fear is an attempt to spread the deadly novel coronavirus, according to locals.

The settlers from Ramot on Tuesday evening reportedly spat at cars driven by Palestinians that were entering and leaving the village.

Local Palestinians say this was a case of trying to spread coronavirus after a number of the settler population was tested positive for deadly disease.

Palestinian youth chased the settlers away after confronting them. They then proceeded to disinfect the road and cars to prevent an outbreak.

Ramot settlement has reported 17 cases of coronavirus out of its overall population of 550 people.

Settlers from Ramot are notorious for harassing the local Palestinian population, often caught vandalising their cars and spraying hateful graffiti on their property.

Webmaster's Commentary:

How completely "humanitarian" of these Israelis to do this!!!!

There are moments when one has to wonder, "What were they thinking?!? Who of their Rabbis approved this, and why was this considered "perfectly normal" by these settlers?!?"

Israel prevents Palestinians from combating COVID-19

As the COVID-19 pandemic death toll grows and the number of those infected creeps past one million confirmed cases, worldwide, the Palestinian health workers of Gaza and the West Bank try desperately to prevent the spread of the virus in the occupied territories. Unfortunately, however, this effort has been severely compromised by the Israeli occupation forces.

An issue almost completely overlooked by Western corporate media, is the issue of Israeli persecution of Palestinians during the ongoing pandemic. This major cover-up comes despite the fact that there is currently round the clock coverage of the impacts of the novel coronavirus.

As the World Turns Its Attention to the Pandemic, Israel Is Moving Forward with Military Raids

he West Bank situation is becoming increasingly complicated amid the coronavirus pandemic and territorial disputes between Palestinians and Israelis. At first, the Palestinian Authority and Israel showed signs of cooperation in combating the pandemic. A few weeks ago, joint measures were announced between both sides to contain the epidemic of the new coronavirus in the region. The measures include distribution of cleaning and personal hygiene materials, in addition to virus testing kits and medical equipment.

On the part of Tel Aviv, the total closure of the West Bank was promoted, allowing, however, access for Palestinian workers involved in the construction and agriculture sectors to the Jewish state, which is why the proposal was well accepted by Ramallah. On the part of the Palestinians, the West Bank has also been blocked, but only partially and for two weeks, since last Sunday (March 22), in addition to the implementation of a series of control and quarantine measures.

Israeli MP presents bills to annex Jordan Valley, impose death penalty on Palestinians

A right-wing Israeli parliamentarian submitted two bills to the Knesset on Wednesday seeking to permanently annex the Jordan Valley, the northern Dead Sea and the Hebron desert in the occupied West Bank to Israel, as well as impose the death penalty on Palestinian political prisoners.

Miki Zohar, the head of the Likud faction in the Knesset, said that the two bills he submitted would “embarrass” former army general Benny Gantz of the Blue and White party and Avigdor Lieberman of Yisrael Beitenu.

Gantz is currently speaking with Israeli parties to form a coalition government after receiving a thin majority last week from Israeli Knesset members.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the leader of Likud party, is maintaining contact with Gantz in a bid to form a national unity government, though the chances are slim that the two rivals will find common ground.

‘Zionist’ Biden in His Own Words: ‘My Name is Joe Biden, and Everybody Knows I Love Israel’

“I am a Zionist. You don’t have to be a Jew to be a Zionist,” current Democratic Presidential candidate, Joe Biden, said in April 2007, soon before he was chosen to be Barack Obama’s running mate in the 2008 elections.

Biden is, of course, correct, because Zionism is a political movement that is rooted in 20th century nationalism and fascism. Its use of religious dogmas is prompted by political expediency, not spirituality or faith.

Unlike US President, Donald Trump, or Bernie Sanders, Biden’s only serious opponent in the Democratic primaries, Biden’s stand on Israel is rarely examined.

Trump has made his support for Israel the cornerstone of his foreign policy agenda since his inauguration into the White House in January 2017. The American President has basically transformed into Israel’s political genie, granting Tel Aviv all of its wishes in complete defiance of international law.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Again, no matter who one votes for as President in November, US foreign policy toward Israel and the Middle East will not change to one of more even-handedness; fairness; and truly listening to the legitimate complaints of countries in the region against Israeli policies.

So, I have a caveat to share; no matter if Trump or Biden wins this election, be prepared to sacrifice your sons and daughters for more, endless wars in the Middle East, as the US government re-institutes the draft to secure Israel's position in the region.

Israel kills 10,000th Palestinian since 2000, US media largely ignore it

Israeli forces invading Palestinian Territory have just killed a 15-year-old unarmed Palestinian boy. A sniper shot him in the head with an expanding bullet. This is the 10,000th Palestinian killed by an Israeli since the round of violence that began in fall 2000. The boy was reportedly shot in the face.

During the same period, Palestinians have killed 1,270 Israelis. See the list and details on this Timeline of Israeli and Palestinian deaths.

Because US media rarely cover Palestinian deaths, while often emphasizing Israeli deaths, most Americans are unaware that Israeli forces have killed far more people than Palestinian resistance groups, and that Israel kills first in nearly all cycles of violence.

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) is calling for the Department of Education to investigate the Center for Middle East Studies (CMES) at the University of Arizona. Gosar argues that the program has misused federal money and should have its funding stripped away by the Trump administration.

On February 24, Gosar sent a letter to Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos claiming that the program is “anti-American and pro-BDS.” One of the examples Gosar cites is a piece by CMES associate professor Maha Nassar that ran on this site two years ago. Nassar’s piece argued that the attempts by pro-Israel groups to demonize Students for Justice in Palestine would only end up strengthening the organization.

Israel’s electoral struggle for racial purity

The recent Israeli elections, the third within a year, have predictably failed to produce a straightforward Zionist majority, neither for the right-wing nor for the center-left. But, the math could work out for a “minority government” by the center-left, if the Joint List, representing mostly Palestinian citizens of Israel were to offer its outside support. The Joint List got 15 seats this time, a record. If that number is added to Blue White’s 33, Labor-Gesher-Meretz’s 7, and Avigdor Liberman’s Yisrael Beitenu’s 7, it adds up to 62 votes in favor of the government, which is a majority in the 120-seat parliament. The point of this would be to garner more recommendations for Benny Gantz as Prime Minister than the right-wing bloc can garner for Netanyahu (which is 58).
