Bracing For Impact: US Banks Set Aside $27 Billion For Credit Losses From The Coronacession

According to Rabobank (paraphrasing the Simsons Cartoon Guy), this may be the worst recession ever, although judging by bank earnings - now that most big banks have already reported results - that realization will take some time to filter through.

As of this morning, the Big 7 US banks - JPM, Citi, BofA, Wells, US Bancorp, Goldman And PNC, have already set aside some $27 billion in credit loss provisions, a number which is 4x greater than the total provisions set aside a year ago, and the most since the financial crisis. Alas, the number won't be nearly sufficient by the time the corona-cession is over.

The video cameras and recording devices were reportedly installed by a security firm that reported back to the US, which sought to prosecute the whistleblower over his release of secret Afghan and Iraqi war logs as well as State Department cables.

The footage shows the scale of the surveillance used against the WikiLeaks' founder, the results of which, according to the accusations filed by the whistleblower's lawyers, were reported by the UG to the US and the Ecuadorian secret service SENAIN.

Kanye West Says ‘It’s Better Now Than When Obama Was in Office’, Ignites Online Debate

The 42-year-old singer, who is an outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump and his policies, has been critical of the Democratic Party in recent years. Kanye West caused a stir on social media after saying that life is better under President Donald Trump than his predecessor Barack Obama. West made the statement in an interview with the GQ magazine. "I buy real estate. It’s better now than when Obama was in office. They don’t teach you in school about buying property. They teach you how to become somebody’s property", the singer said.

I am in Denmark, where the lockdown has ended. Are we the only sane ones, or are my children canaries in a coal mine?

Denmark became one the first countries to emerge from strong Covid-19 restrictions, with schools and some businesses reopening. Are we right to do so, or are our children just test subjects in a mass public health experiment?

As I look out of my apartment window, a bus goes past with children inside. Elsewhere, I can see a toddler on the back of his mother’s bike and an older child cycling next to them with a rucksack on his back. The street is by no means busy but there is a small difference. Today is the first day of Denmark’s reopening.

All primary schools (6-12 year olds), all nurseries (0-3 year, approx) and kindergartens (about 3- 5/6 years) have been given permission to reopen, in the first step of the government’s “gradual, quiet and controlled opening.”

A German app developer has warned that the Covid-19 pandemic gives Silicon Valley tech giants perfect cover to suck up personal data. However, while the government may intervene, the tech firms aren’t known for listening.

Apple and Google unveiled an app last week that uses bluetooth connections to trace the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus. Put simply, the app tracks whether a smartphone user has come in contact with another, infected, user. Similar apps rolled out in South Korea and Singapore have been credited with arresting the spread of the deadly pathogen.

Michigan’s Protest Against the Covid Rouge Wasn’t Half Bad — America Is Rising Up, Where’s Europe?

True enough, the plans for the Michigan protest where participants wouldn’t even exit their cars sounded somewhat underwhelming. But to be fair it seems Michigan’s climate is truly awful with snowfall in mid-April so there that. Also in the end a bunch of (photogenic) protesters did also stage a proper protest on foot.

Also, while the turnout so far in Michigan (4000), Ohio (200) and North Carolina (100) may not have been enormous the Americans are showing some spirit, which can not (yet) be said for Europeans.

Israeli neglect fuels coronavirus in East Jerusalem

Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem face the prospect of a major coronavirus outbreak, fueled and exacerbated by Israeli neglect.

Despite repeated warnings from health professionals and even Israel’s mayor of Jerusalem Moshe Leon, Israel has done little to prevent an outbreak.

What makes the situation even worse is no one has an accurate picture of how widespread infections are in Palestinian neighborhoods.

“Of increasing concern is the lack of information regarding cases in East Jerusalem, as these are not covered by the Palestinian Ministry of Health and are not disaggregated in the overall figures by the Israeli authorities,” the UN humanitarian coordination agency OCHA said on Tuesday.

There are about 300 confirmed cases in the West Bank, outside Jerusalem, while Israel has recorded more than 12,000 cases.

Bailouts Secured: Bezos Wealth Soars By $24 Billion As 17 Million Americans Lose Their Jobs

As the middle class gears up to once again unknowingly bail out the world via way of inflating the money supply, the rich are doing what they do during bailouts: getting richer.

In fact, just a week after 17 million Americans filed for unemployment, Jeff Bezos saw his net worth increase to $138.5 billion as Amazon's stock hit all time highs on Tuesday, according to Bloomberg. The stock move was helped along by massive fiscal and monetary stimulus hitting the stock market.

Amidst historic unemployment numbers, banks are now claiming that loan losses fueled by job cuts could rival those from the 2008 financial crisis. Among the weakest sectors cutting employees first is the very sector that Amazon has disrupted: retail.

Amid the continuing saga there's been little attention paid to the reaction of America's rivals and enemies, who have been watching closely as a multi-billion dollar nuclear carrier has been rendered ineffective by an 'invisible enemy'.

Beijing believes COVID-19 is a biological weapon

From conspiracy theory to geopolitical realism, the possibility to treat COVID-19 as a biological weapon has been finally accepted in the public sphere. The recent statement by the Chinese spokesman Zhao Lijian, formally accusing the US of bringing coronavirus to China, has highlighted a series of new opinions about the pandemic.

The hypothesis of biological warfare behind the global pandemic had already been raised by Russian experts some weeks ago. Like any opinion that is slightly different from the official version of Western governments and their media agencies, the thesis was ridiculed and accused of being a “conspiracy theory”. However, as soon as the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the second largest economic power on the planet publishes a note attesting to this possibility, it leaves the sphere of “conspiracy theories” to enter the scene of public opinion and official government versions.

No Weapon Left Behind: The American Hybrid War on China

China largely beats the U.S. on patent filings and produces at least 8 times as many STEM graduates a year than the U.S., earning the status of top contributor to global science.

A vast array of nations across the Global South signed on to be part of BRI, which is planned for completion in 2049. Last year alone, Chinese companies signed contracts worth up to $128 billion in large-scale infrastructure projects in dozen of nations.

The only economic competitor to the U.S. is busy reconnecting most of the world to a 21st century, fully networked version of a trade system that was at its peak for over a millennia: the Eurasian Silk Roads.

Inevitably this state of things is something interlocking sectors of the U.S. ruling class simply would not accept.

China’s Coronavirus: A Shocking Update. Did The Virus Originate in the US?

China’s top respiratory specialist Zhong Nanshan said on January 27

“Though the COVID-19 was first discovered in China, it does not mean that it originated from China”

“But that is Chinese for “it originated someplace else, in another country”. (4)

This of course raises questions as to the actual location of origin. If the authorities pursued their analysis through 100 genome samples from 12 countries, they must have had a compelling reason to be searching for the original source outside China. This would explain why there was such difficulty in locating and identifying a ‘patient zero’.
