Coronavirus, a black plague: Early evidence is that the pandemic is hitting African Americans especially hard

There is an old saying that when white America catches a cold, African Americans catch pneumonia. Whether it was the Great Depression, Hurricane Katrina or the Great Recession, entrenched racial discrimination causes black communities to experience disproportionate suffering and hardship. While the COVID-19 virus can afflict anyone, America’s long history of racially discriminatory political, economic and social policies creates conditions that put African Americans at substantially greater risk of contracting and dying from the coronavirus.

Assange’s life in GRAVE DANGER as first Covid-19 death confirmed in Belmarsh prison — Wikileaks editor-in-chief

Conditions in Belmarsh prison, where Julian Assange is held, might be worse than London is willing to admit, WikiLeaks editor-in-chief Kristinn Hrafnsson told RT, adding that Covid-19 could swiftly tear through the facility.
A prison environment is “like a Petri dish” for a virus, Hrafnsson explained, particularly such a highly infectious one as the novel coronavirus, which has already struck more than 1 million people around the world. The max security Belmarsh prison, where the WikiLeaks founder is being kept pending extradition to the US, has just reported its first death from the disease. According to Hrafnsson, there are other worrying signs too.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There would be nothing certain elements of the US elite would like better, than for Assange to die of Covid-19 while in prison.

The Lockdown Wouldn't Be So Devastating If Our Economy Wasn't So Rigged, Brittle and Exploitive

An economy of rackets designed to enrich the few at the expense of the many is brittle because self-serving rackets snuff out competition, accountability and transparency.

What's remarkable about the lockdown isn't the hue and cry about the economic damage--it's the absence of any critical curiosity as to how our economy became so fragile that only the wealthiest contingent can survive a few weeks on savings or rainy-day funds.

Empires don't collapse because everyone ran out of money; they collapse when the costs exceed earnings.

"Sickest Part Of A Sick America": The Region Where Health Officials Fear The Worst COVID-19 Devastation

After New Orleans last month emerged as the United States' new southern epicenter for the coronavirus pandemic, threatening other states across the region, a review in Bloomberg Law of how the South as already "the sickest part of America" could be hit hardest before the crisis eventually wanes paints a very bleak picture.

Home to the highest rates of obesity, hypertension, heart attacks, and strokes, combined with expansive rural and impoverished areas that have poor health care access, the South is especially vulnerable for a "virus that is particularly lethal for people with underlying health conditions," according to the report.

“Covid-19 is going to be a disaster in the Southeast,” Aaron Milstone, a Tennessee pulmonologist, told Bloomberg Law. “We’ll see higher morbidity, which is getting sick from the virus, and higher mortality, which is dying from the virus.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

I must admit that I have a hug/punch relationship with Bill Maher, (and Bill, no worries; my "punches" are more like a gentle tap on the shoulder) whose last "Real Time" show was done from his home in "Affluent LAzia".

But when he champions healthy living and eating, he has my utmost attention and respect (at least for those moments he is championing those issues).

I look like the side of the family which had massive cardiovascular risks, many due to diet and life style issues, so I have really deliberately worked hard to keep my weight down, and I think it has paid off in my being able to walk and talk on my own, nearing 71 years of age next month.

Yes, you will have to re-learn how to eat, and that organic veggies are your friends, and how to use spices instead of salt; but if that will earn you a little more healthy time on this planet, why the heck not?!?

I have 3 wonderful grand nephews, and 1 wonderful grand niece, I want to be around for, and there with, as they grow up; and I want to be healthy doing that. So if you are not thinking about yourself, think about the family and friends you love, and spending quality time with them.

Government To Decide What Items Are Essential Purchases And What Things You're Not Allowed To Buy

Authored by Daisy Luther via The Organic Prepper blog,

Living under lockdown restrictions, prevalent in nearly every state, is about to get a whole lot worse. The government in the United States and Canada has decided to take away the guesswork in the stores that are still open and decide for you what’s “essential” and what’s not.

Vermont has started a worrisome trend.
Vermont has decided to choose for you what is essential and what is not, banning the sale of non-essential items at stores like Target, Walmart, and Costco.

The Agency of Commerce and Community Development (ACCD) is directing large “big box” retailers, such as Walmart, Target and Costco, with in-store sales of food, beverage and pharmacy, as well as electronics, toys, clothing, and the like to cease in-person sales of non-essential items in order to reduce the number of people coming into the stores.

U.S. officer killed in ambush in eastern Syria: SANA

A U.S. officer, along with two Kurdish fighters, was killed on Monday in an ambush in Syria's eastern province of Deir al-Zour, state news agency SANA reported.

The ambush, carried out by an unknown group, targeted vehicles of the U.S.-led coalition and fighters of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces in the village of Sur in Deir al-Zour's countryside.

The slain U.S. officer was transported to the Shaddadi base, which is run by the U.S. forces, in the southern countryside of the northeastern province of Hasakah, SANA said, providing no further details.

The U.S. forces and Kurdish-led fighters control areas in Deir al-Zour and Hasakah after dislodging Islamic State (IS) militants in battles in 2018.

Quercetin: A Made-in-Canada Solution to the Coronavirus Outbreak? The best hope for an antiviral drug may come from Michel Chrétien's Montreal lab

When an Ebola outbreak struck West Africa in 2014, the two scientists teamed up with the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg to test quercetin’s effectiveness on mice infected with Ebola—and found it effective even when administered only minutes before infection. It still needs to undergo clinical trials.

But when a new global health crisis erupted in Wuhan, China late last year, Chrétien and his team once again got to thinking. They believed the drug might work on COVID-19, which has infected more than 130,000 people and killed 4,700, according to the World Health Organization. They knew a Swiss drug manufacturer, Quercegen Pharmaceuticals, could rapidly produce doses of the treatment in the hundreds of thousands.

Video: US Confirms Deployment of Patriot Missiles in Iraq. Iran Prepares for Conflict in Strait of Hormuz

Al-Kastan is located near the town of Jisr al-Shughur, controlled by the Al-Qaeda-linked Turkistan Islamic Party. The exploded weapon depot likely belonged to the terrorist group or persons affiliated with it.

On the same day, the Turkish military established three new ‘observation posts’ around Jisr al-Shughur. They are located at the villages of Baksariya, al-Z’ainiyah and Furaykah. Idlib militants see Turkish positions as an important defense line that would allow containing possible Russia- and Iran-backed anti-terrorist operations in the area.

The 46th Regiment Base of the Syrian Army in western Aleppo came under Turkish artillery shelling. In response, Syrian forces struck position of Turkish-backed militants near Kafr Amma. The attack on the 46th Regiment Base became a third incident between the Turkish military and Syrian troops in less than a week. On April 3, two Syrian soldiers were killed in a Turkish artillery strike on their positions near Tell Abyad.

Palestinian minister files coronavirus complaint, after Israeli police forced him to wear blood-stained mask

A Palestinian minister in occupied East Jerusalem has filed a legal complaint against Israeli police officers who he said beat him, robbed him, assaulted his wife and son, and forced him to wear a blood-stained mask, during a raid on his home last week.

Fadi al-Hidmi, Palestine's minister for Jerusalem affairs, was arrested last Friday by Israeli police, accused of conducting "illegal activities".

Local media reported that the officers smashed down a door to his home and confiscated 10,000 shekels (around $2,750) that had been earmarked for charity during a police raid last week.

On Monday, he filed a complaint against the Israeli police officers who arrested him during the storming of his home, according to Haarez.

Webmaster's Commentary:
