'The Tea Party to the 10th power': Trumpworld bets big on critical race theory

Former top aides to President Donald Trump have begun an aggressive push to combat the teaching of critical race theory and capitalize on the issue politically, confident that a backlash will vault them back into power.

These officials, including Trump’s former campaign chief and two former budget advisers, have poured money and organizational muscle into the fight. They’ve aided activists who are pushing back against the concept that racism has been systemic to American society and institutions after centuries of slavery and Jim Crow. And some of them have begun working with members of Congress to bar the military from holding diversity trainings and to withhold federal funds from schools and colleges that promote anything that can be packaged as critical race theory.

Educators around the country have come out to condemn a 'Dismantling Racism in Mathematics' program which tells teachers not to push students to find the correct answers to math problems because doing so promotes white supremacy.

The program is centered around a workbook for teachers entitled 'A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction' which asserts that America's education system – even mathematics instruction – reinforces the dominant power structures of white colonizers.

Grading students, asking them to show their work, requiring participation and even pushing them to get the right answer are depicted in the workbook as harmful to minorities.

The Higher Education Bubble Has Popped

The higher education bubble has been rapidly inflating, threatening to pop at any moment. Over the past several decades, our culture has tipped the scales from praising and valuing education to downright socially mandating it. As a result, enrollment has skyrocketed to levels never before seen.

While broadening access to higher education is, of course, an ideal to strive for, we’re doing a cultural disservice to young generations by stigmatizing alternative options such as trade school. Increasingly, students feel as though they must get a degree to get a halfway decent job—or even just for the sake of social acceptance.

As a result, more and more students are phoning it in with degrees in increasingly bizarre and niche fields. These curricula equip them with a handle on abstract theory rather than tangible professional skills. After all, how many scholars of gender studies are actually sustaining themselves outside of the higher-ed bubble?

But while companies have seen upwards of a 500% increase in their usage, legitimate concerns about their invasiveness, potential bias, and efficacy are also on the rise. These concerns even led to a U.S. Senate inquiry letter requesting detailed information from three of the top proctoring companies—Proctorio, ProctorU, and ExamSoft—which combined have proctored at least 30 million tests over the course of the pandemic. Unfortunately, the companies mostly dismissed the senators’ concerns, in some cases stretching the truth about how the proctoring apps work, and in other cases downplaying the damage this software inflicts on vulnerable students...

Summary to date: The California “lockdown” to “flatten the curve and keep hospitals running” has lasted since March 3, 2020, despite statutory limit for emergency powers due to “beyond control” hospitals lasting only 60 days (§ 8627.5 California Emergency Services Act). Thankfully, our local hospitals have been in full control of patient numbers at all times.

As a NorCal public school teacher, I inquired to our district’s leadership and teachers’ union how their negotiated policy to “obey” county “health” “orders” is legal given the above reasonable limits to dictatorial authority.

Frustrated by school closures and district “Zoom schooling,” families fled public schools in droves over the past year, and there are several signs that these families won’t be returning this fall.

According to an analysis by Chalkbeat and the Associated Press, public school enrollment fell by an average of 2.6 percent across 41 states last fall, with states such as Michigan, Maine, Vermont, and Mississippi dropping by more than 4 percent. These enrollment declines far exceeded any anticipated demographic changes that might typically alter public school enrollment.

California University to Hold Segregated ‘Cultural Graduation’ Ceremonies Based on Race and Identity

Chapman University in California is having segregated “Cultural Graduation” ceremonies including “Black Graduation,” “APIDA Graduation,” “Lavender Graduation,” “disability Graduation,” “Middle Eastern Graduation,” and “Latinx Graduation.”

The segregated ceremonies, which will be taking place in addition to the main commencement, will take place on July 30, July 31, August 1, August 6, August 7, and August 8.

“Cultural graduation celebrations are additions to the university-wide commencement ceremony, students are free to register for these additional celebrations to share the joy of graduation with their friends and family if they choose to,” a post on the college’s Cross-Cultural Center’s Instagram stated.

Oregon students shouldn’t have to prove they can write or do math to get a diploma, lawmakers decide

A bill to prohibit Oregon schools from requiring students to show they can read, write and do math at a basic high school level is headed to Gov. Kate Brown after lawmakers gave final approval Wednesday.

The idea is to hit pause on the requirements, in place since 2009 but already suspended during the pandemic, at least until the class of 2024 gets their diplomas and for Oregon to thoughtfully reexamine its graduation requirements in the meantime. A report recommending what the new standards should be is due to the Legislature and Oregon Board of Education by September 2022.

But since Oregon has long insisted it would not impose new graduation requirements on students who have already begun high school, new requirements would not take effect until the class of 2027 at the very earliest. So at least five more classes could be expected to graduate without needing to demonstrate roughly 10th grade level proficiency in math and writing.

Staff at University of Manchester demand end to Tel Aviv University ties

More than 200 members of staff and researchers at the University of Manchester are calling on the institution to cut its ties with Tel Aviv University in the wake of Israel’s recent bombing campaign in the besieged Gaza Strip.

An open letter addressed to the university’s vice-chancellor Dame Nancy Rothwell said the Israeli university was “deeply implicated” in the May bombardment, which killed 248 Palestinians, including 66 children.

Massachusetts School District Calls for Students, Teachers to Report Others for ‘Bias’ Incidents

The K-12 district of Wellesley Public Schools (WPS) in Massachusetts released a policy calling for students and teachers to report their peers and colleagues for “incidents of bias” so they may be investigated and punished accordingly.

The Boston area school district’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) created the policy titled “Responding to Incidents of Bias or Discrimination.”

The DEI office defines an “incident of bias” as “conduct, speech or expression that has an impact but may not involve criminal action, but demonstrates conscious or unconscious bias” against any federally protected identity group, i.e., “race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, or disability.”

Hungary moves to prohibit promotion of homosexuality, transgenderism to children

The Hungarian parliament has prepared a bill that would prohibit showing pornographic content or material that encourages homosexuality and transgenderism to minors under 18.

The measure, proposed by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s ruling Fidesz party, explicitly bans “content that depicts sexuality for its own sake, or promotes or displays deviations from the identity of the sex of birth, gender reassignment or homosexuality.”

The legal amendment was added to sweeping legislation against pedophilia that is set for a vote on Tuesday. Fidesz holds a super-majority in the Hungarian legislature.

LGBT ideology in schools, as well as in advertisements and other mass media, effectively would be banned under the anti-pedophilia bill, which also creates new provisions for sexual education, such as a list of approved sex-ed organizations.

Petition Demands Resignation Of New Jersey School Board After Holiday Names Replaced With Generic "Day Off"

A petition has been launched calling for the resignation of school board members in a New Jersey county over their vote last week to remove holiday names from the school calendar and replace them with a generic “day off” designation.

Fairfax County school board member Abrar Omeish gave the keynote address at the commencement for Justice High School in Falls Church, Virginia on June 7.

Homeschooling Skyrocketed In 2020, As Much As 700 Percent In Some States

Between May and October 2020, homeschooling more than doubled among U.S. households with school-age children, from 5.4 percent that spring to 11.1 percent that fall, according to new Census Bureau data.

Black and Hispanic Americans were the most likely to switch to homeschooling, while white and Asian Americans were the least likely. This could be due to the fact that African-American children are the most likely to be financially locked into poor-quality school districts, or that black Americans have been the most likely to exhibit COVID caution, or some combination.

All demographics reported large increases in homeschooling between spring and fall 2020, but black Americans increased homeschooling the most, quintupling from 3.3. percent to 16.1 percent.

The old history exam paper from 1944 asks third year pupils to answer detailed questions about the union of the Scottish and English parliaments as well as the Battle of Carham, The Darien Scheme and the Marquis of Montrose.

Another question asks students to explain how John Knox, Bonnie Dundee, Archbishop Laud, Agricola, Thomas Telford or Queen Margaret played a part in Scottish history.

The next asks pupils to name three Scotsmen, living in the nineteeth century, who achieved distinction in exploration or scientific discovery

Posting a picture of the paper on Twitter, the user wrote: “This exam paper shows what 13-year-old school children in Inverness in 1944 were expected to know. Try it.”

The acrimony over the 2020 election is fading. Trump Derangement Syndrome became abstract when Donald Trump left office and was ostracized from social media.

In other words, the American people are slowly regaining their senses after the epidemic of mass hysteria that gripped the nation last year.

But many Americans wonder whether what Antifa, Black Lives Matter, and the hard left wrought last year will last when the nation is no longer gripped by 2020 madness.

Teachers and academics are notorious for furious opposition to administrative bloat. For the last 50 years, administrations have proliferated while the ratio of non-teachers to teachers has skyrocketed—much to the chagrin of teachers unions.

States Banning Critical Race Theory in Government Add Up

A growing number of states are passing laws prohibiting inculcation of the quasi-Marxist Critical Race Theory (CRT) in schools and other government institutions in response to mounting opposition to the ideology.

Governors of Tennessee, Idaho, Arkansas, and Oklahoma have already signed anti-CRT bills. In Texas, Arizona, and Iowa, similar bills are awaiting signatures from their governors.

North Carolina and Utah have passed anti-CRT bills in one legislative chamber so far. Lawmakers in several more states proposed such bills, but haven’t had much success pushing them through.

CRT redefines human history as a struggle between “oppressors” (white people) and the “oppressed” (everybody else), similarly to Marxism’s reduction of history to a struggle between the “bourgeois” and the “proletariat.” It labels institutions that emerged in majority-white societies as racist and “white supremacist.”

Parents forking over $40,000-plus a year for their students to attend Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School were outraged after the junior class was given a ‘porn literacy’ course without warning.

In a twist worthy of Mark Twain himself, a St. John’s University professor has been fired for reading a passage containing the N-word from Twain’s anti-slavery novel “Pudd’nhead Wilson” in her “Literature of Satire” class.

Hannah Berliner Fischthal, an adjunct instructor at the Catholic college in Queens for 20 years, uttered the N-word once during a remote class Feb. 10 — after she first explained to students the context of the word and said she hoped it would not offend anyone.

None of the colleges requiring COVID vaccine will accept acquired immunity as alternative: report

But studies show previous infection from the virus provides lasting immunity, including from its variants

Well over 200 colleges and universities across the nation have announced in recent weeks they will require students to get the COVID vaccine to return to campus this fall, and more campuses are added to the list each day.

Bizarrely, most teachers and staff are exempt from that same vaccine mandate, according to a list maintained by the Chronicle of Higher Education.

In effect, campus leaders force their students to get a vaccine — even though young people are shown to have far fewer severe reactions from COVID-19 — while their older, more vulnerable employees are given a pass.

Even more troubling is that university leaders refuse to accept acquired immunity in place of a vaccine even though experts — including Dr. Anthony Fauci himself — have found that previous infection from the virus provides lasting immunity, including from its variants.

Scholars Line Up To Join Anti-‘Woke’ Online Education Platform

Hundreds of scholars, including some distinguished figures, have applied for positions at an online education startup that promises explicitly non-“woke” instruction in a number of academic disciplines.

Named “American Scholars,” the project was started several months ago by Matthew Pohl, former University of Pennsylvania admissions officer. As soon as word got out, résumés started to stream in from academics offering their participation, its leaders said.

Pohl described the project as the fruit of his gradual disillusionment with his career in the academic world, where he drove admissions at several prestigious universities. He noticed that with regard to education, most students weren’t getting their money’s worth, attributing that to the “administrative bloat” of establishment colleges, as well as the spread of quasi-Marxist ideologies that have come to be collectively known as “wokeness.”

Grass-Roots Americans Revolt Against Critical Race Theory

Penn State passes resolution calling for end to ‘male-specific’ terms like ‘freshman’ & ‘senior’

Pennsylvania State University is the latest college to make a move towards wokemania, after the faculty passed a resolution getting rid of terms like ‘freshman’ and ‘senior’ for not being gender inclusive.

The Senate Committee on Curricular Affairs at the school passed the ‘Removal of Gendered & Binary Terms from Course and Program Descriptions’ resolution and it was signed by over two dozen professors and administrators, according to a report from Campus Reform.

Under the resolution, terms such as ‘freshman,’ ‘underclassman,’ ‘senior,’ and ‘upperclassman’ are being retired in the name of inclusivity.

These terms are apparently “decidedly male-specific” while terms such as ‘upperclassmen’ can be interpreted as being “both sexist and classist,” the resolution states, arguing that Penn State “has grown out of a typically male-centered world.”

George Mason University sets candidate diversity equivalent with professional achievement

George Mason University is redefining its hiring practices to make candidate diversity equivalent with professional experience.

President Greogory Washington said in a recent email “we need a more comprehensive framework for what constitutes ‘best’” in hiring faculty and staff.

He said in his April 15 email that his explanation came in response to concerns that college hiring must reflect achievement and preferring minorities would be illegal.

“If you have two candidates who are both ‘above the bar’ in terms of requirements for a position, but one adds to your diversity and the other does not, then why couldn’t that candidate be better, even if that candidate may not have better credentials than the other candidate,” Washington wrote.

As Predicted, Boston “Zip Code Quota Plan” For Elite Public Schools Reduced Asian and White Admissions, Raised Black and Latino

In late February 2021, we covered a lawsuit filed by a group of Boston, Massachusetts, parents objecting to changes to admissions criteria for an elite public school, Boston Parents Sue Alleging Discrimination Against Asians and Whites In Change of Prestigious Public School Admissions:

Boston Parent Coalition for Academic Excellence (BPCAE) has sued over changes in how students are admitted to a small number of prestigious public schools.

Previously, admission was based on test scores, but Boston, claiming the results were racially unequal, decided to factor in zip codes as to admission. The result would be to exclude many asian-american and white students who otherwise would have gained admission. The parents group alleges the use of zip codes was a subterfuge for illegal use of race and ethnicity.

Mount Allison University Professor Rima Azar feels a strong identification to Canada. Born in Lebanon during a civil war, Azar developed a lasting appreciation for the freedoms of Canada, particularly free speech. An accomplished academic in the field of health psychology, she often discusses her views of political and social issues on her personal blog Bambi’s Afkar from her unique perspective. However, she recently ran afoul of an individual who spotted comments denying that Canada is a racist country and criticizing Black Lives Matter as an organization. The individual compiled an array of what was viewed to be objectionable positions and triggered a movement to have Azar fired. In a direct attack on free speech and academic freedom, the University then suspended Azar without pay.
