Storm dumps up to 13 inches of snow on RI

A massive winter storm rolled into Southern New England Wednesday night, dropped more than a foot of snow on parts of Rhode Island and set at least one snowfall record before winding down Thursday afternoon.

The storm had dumped 13 inches on Burrillville as of 2:25 p.m.; 12 inches on Cranston as of 12:12 p.m. and 11.5 inches on North Providence as of 1:14 p.m., according to unofficial reports to the National Weather Service.

T.F. Green Airport, where measurements are taken for Providence, had 7.3 inches as of 1 p.m., building on a new record for the date. The previous record for Dec. 17 was 4 inches, set in 1961.
