Biden’s Pentagon Defends Milley’s Secret Talks With China

Joe Biden’s Pentagon appeared to be defending General Mark Milley’s secret talks with China amid claims of potential treason. On Wednesday, Department Spokesman John Kirby said Milley’s talks with Beijing last October and this past January were not inappropriate.

Kirby’s comments came despite Bob Woodward revealing Milley promised Beijing he would not follow President Trump’s orders in case he authorized a military strike on China. Milley also allegedly vowed to notify China if such a decision were made by Trump.

“I’m not speaking to the validity of things that are in the book, but it is completely appropriate for the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as the senior military adviser to both the secretary and the president, to want to see those protocols reviewed on whatever frequent basis that that he wants to do that,” Kirby said. “He is basically the chief of defense for the United States. We don’t call him that, but he has chief of defense counterparts around the world.”
