60 Killed as Yemen Govt Tries to Push Into Northern Yemen City

Fighting continues to rage in northern Yemen’s Maarib Province, but while they were focusing on the last government-held outpost for weeks, the Maarib Dam, the shift has turned and now government forces are trying to attack the city of Hazm.

Escalation of Saudi airstrikes is the big game-changer here, first stalling the bloody fight in Maarib, and now trying to bolster the counter-offensive. At least 60 fighters were killed Friday, roughly double normal daily tolls in recent weeks.

As usual, the high death toll doesn’t mean anything tangible changed on the ground, at most some vague claims of changing momentum, and no territory actually changing hands.
