Thought for the day

"Politicians are the same all over:  they promise to build a bridge even where there is no river." -- Nikita Khrushchev, Russian Soviet politician

The Wall Street Journal’s allegations of Russia stealing electricity from the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant expose its failure to see the cause-effect relationships, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry pointed to a Wall Street Journal article, which alleged, citing analysts, that Moscow was trying "to reroute power to occupied territories, Russia and even export markets, where the price of electricity is surging."

"The wild conclusion is that such ‘expropriation’ on the part of Russia will additionally destabilize energy markets. Just a quick look at the article is enough to understand the authors’ complete failure to see the cause-effect relationships," the statement reads.

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that it was Kiev that kept shelling the power plant area, putting the entire European continent at risk of a nuclear disaster. "The conclusion is clear: by destroying energy infrastructure, the Kiev regime is putting millions of European residents at risk of a nuclear disaster with the connivance of Washington. But the Wall Street Journal, based thousands of kilometers from the region at risk, clearly has no interest in that," the statement added.

Amnesty International claimed that, people who crossed from Belarus to Lithuania subjected to beatings, abuse and racism. In the 65-page report, the organization revealed refugees and migrants have been held for months on end in squalid, prison-like centers in Lithuania. Refugees and migrants were being denied access to fair asylum procedures, so that they “voluntarily” return to the countries from which they have fled. Detainers sometimes engaged in protests, caused by frustration at being arbitrarily detained and subjected to appalling detention conditions. Refugees recounted how guards and police reacted to such demonstrations by beating them with batons, and by using pepper spray and taser guns.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the government will investigate claims former prime minister Scott Morrison secretly gave himself powers to jointly run the health, finance and resources ministries during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Key points:

  • Scott Morrison secretly took joint charge of several portfolios during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Cabinet ministers were kept in the dark about the power grab
  • The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet has referred the issue to the solicitor-general

Mr Albanese says the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet is seeking legal advice from the solicitor-general.

Governor-General David Hurley confirmed he secretly signed instruments to allow Mr Morrison to administer other portfolios, "consistent with section 64 of the constitution".

The ABC understands then-health minister Greg Hunt agreed to Mr Morrison's joint position as a safeguard to incapacitation from COVID-19, but that Matthias Cormann was not told that Mr Morrison had appointed himself as joint finance minister.

Translation: MOSCOW, August 16 - RIA Novosti. Western curators have practically written off the Kyiv regime and are already planning the partition of Ukraine, Foreign Intelligence Service spokesman Colonel-General Vladimir Matveev said at the Moscow Conference on International Security. “Obviously, the West is not concerned about the fate of the Kyiv regime. As can be seen from the information received by the SVR, Western curators have almost written it off and are in full swing developing plans for the division and occupation of at least part of the Ukrainian lands,” he said. However, according to the general, much more is at stake than Ukraine: for Washington and its allies, it is about the fate of the colonial system of world domination.

Among many things Matveev articulated, one stands out especially and this is about US detachment from reality and dogmatic approach to its, now former, colonial possessions, which today are reduced to Europe. That explains the cognitive dissonance in the US which increasingly creates chaos in desperate attempts to preserve already lost global dominance. As Matveev says (in Russian) such an approach is risible but also--dangerous. As he underscored:"The West is getting weaker, it stumbles but still thinks itself as mighty...", which is absolutely true when one looks not only at what the combined West does but also who is at the helm. So, a very interesting set of statements from SVR.

China’s state-run Global Times propaganda newspaper praised the government of Hungary under self-proclaimed conservative Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Monday for greenlighting the construction of a Chinese electric vehicle battery factory and being “rational and pragmatic” in maintaining friendly relations with the Chinese Communist Party.

Under Orbán, who strives to maintain close ties to the American right-wing community, Hungary has greatly expanded the Chinese Communist Party’s economic and cultural presence in the country. Orbán made Hungary the first European leader to join China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a global infrastructure debt trap scheme in which China offers participating countries predatory loans later used to erode their sovereignty. Hungary has allowed China to operate its “Confucius Institutes,” academic institutions used to spread communism, on its soil, and more recently emphasized that it supported the “One China principle” – the false idea that the nation of Taiwan is a province of communist China.

China’s government-owned Xinhua News Agency reported last week that Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Péter Szijjártó confirmed the plan to build the electric vehicle battery plant.

Latvia and Estonia announced their withdrawal from the “17 + 1” format, which was created 10 years ago to promote economic relations between China and Eastern European countries. In justifying the unfriendly act towards China, the three Baltic Republics, which includes Lithuania, claimed that they placed great hope in economic benefits with China, but this did not materialise as there was very little investment from the Asian country. They also claimed that trade was damaged by the imbalance, which is in Beijing’s favour.

Interestingly, other members of “17 + 1” do not complain about the results of cooperation with Beijing, thus bringing to question why the three Baltic countries do. The Baltic countries decision was instigated by China’s unrelenting commitment to its relationship with Russia despite pressure from the West, and not because of some supposed disappointment in the volume of cooperation with China. Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu admitted as much on ERR radio, saying that the decision to withdraw from “17 + 1” was because of “China’s failure to condemn Russia’s aggression in Ukraine”.

The Baltic states have long held an anti-Moscow stance, perhaps the harshest in the EU. Although the Baltic states claim their anti-Russia stance is partly due to the historical legacy of the Soviet Union and Russian Empire, this is only a cheapening of history and also ignores numerous Lithuanian attempts over the centuries to capture Moscow. Rather, the behaviour of the ruling elites of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia is because of their obedience to the United States and NATO countries in the hope of receiving concessions and advantages, and not because of past grievances.

Why the sharp intake of breath, the tingling shock?  In one of the world’s most secretive liberal democracies, the revelation that the previous Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison ran a shadow government overseen by personal quasi-despotic whim spanning several ministerial positions has caused chill and consternation.  That’s not the way we do things – except when we do.

Such consternation, in a country that tolerates secret trials only revealed by accident, raids upon journalists and the headquarters of the national broadcaster, full-throated prosecutions of whistleblowers, the torture-tinged indefinite detention of refugees, and brazen immunities for intelligence officers engaged in alleged criminal activity.

Such consternation, in a country that mandates data retention by telecommunication companies for up to two years and disruptive warrants in violation of privacy, a country that gives government ministers, notably immigration ministers, God-like powers (in a secular sense, revolting) to determine the fate of individuals and, most unappealingly for believers in natural justice, rejects a bill of rights or a human rights charter.  With these monstrous realities, Morrison’s conduct and his shady actions indicate an almost mild consistency.

Over 100 people have been arrested by police in relation to demonstrations resisting EU green agenda plans that will see Dutch farmers lose their livelihoods.

Police in the Netherlands have reportedly arrested over 100 people in relation to protests against EU green agenda measures which will see up to 30 per cent of livestock farms in the country forced to close.

While described by the Dutch government as being part of an “unavoidable transition” towards Great Reset-style reforms mandated by bigwigs in Brussels, farmers in the country have been actively resisting the changes, blocking motorways and food distribution centres in the hopes of bringing authorities to heel.

According to a report by NOS News, police have responded to the demonstrations by cracking down on protesters, with over 100 people being arrested in relation to the anti-green agenda demonstrations in recent weeks, with hundreds more being handed fines for actions resisting the measures.

Boston Children’s Hospital’s Gender Multispecialty Service has been promoting itself recently with a series of interviews with doctors. As Twitchy reported, one video featured a doctor explaining the difference between a “gender-affirming” hysterectomy and your run-of-the-mill hysterectomy. Keep in mind that this is a children’s hospital.

ABC News earlier this year featured a mother who said her child expressed that she was transgender at the earliest moment she had the words to express it. Boston Children’s Hospital’s Dr. Jeremi Carswell says that’s typical — while some might not realize they’re transgender until adolescence, a lot of trans children have known they were born into the wrong body since birth, practically.

Webmaster addition: This is just getting silly!

A harrowing video from the Boston Children’s Hospital claims that children can know that they are transgender “from the minute they were born, practically.”

The video was made by Dr. Jeremi Carswell, the Director of the Gender Multispeciality Service at the Boston Children’s Hospital.

The Boston Children’s Hospital is associated with Harvard University and was the first to establish a clinic that specifically focused on “transgender health” in a pediatric setting.

In the video, Carswell makes the startling claim that “A child will often know that they are transgender from the moment that they have any ability to express themselves.” She continues and doubles down, remarking, “They knew from the minute they were born, practically.”

Webmaster addition: I'll bet that the doctor sells transgender "cures" to parents dumb enough to believe him!

German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach has announced that the nation’s digital contact tracing and vaccine passport app, Corona-Warn-App (CWA), will start assigning different colors to citizens based on whether they received a COVID-19 vaccine within the last three months.

The CWA will assign one color to citizens who add proof that they received a vaccine within the last three months and a different color to citizens who add proof of vaccination that’s more than three months old. Only those with the color showing that they’re “freshly vaccinated” (have received a vaccine within the last three months) will be exempt from Germany’s mask requirement in public indoor spaces.

Other citizens, including those who received multiple vaccines but had their last vaccine more than three months ago, will have to show proof of recent recovery from COVID or a current negative test to get an exemption from this mask requirement.

Germany’s Berliner Zeitung noted that the color codes in the vaccine passport app would “give different rights in the future” and said the system would put citizens who are already quadruple vaccinated on the same legal footing as those who are unvaccinated.

Texas cattle ranchers David and Deborah Hajda issued a dire warning to America's middle class after Democrats' spending bill passed both houses of Congress allowing provisions for approximately $80 billion in IRS funding, a majority of which is dedicated to enforcement.

The Raising Five Cattle Company ranchers spoke with Dana Perino on "America's Newsroom" Tuesday, where they recounted the grueling tax audit they experienced 13 years ago.

"We got audited over basically a $7,800 engine rebuild on a very old tractor," Deborah said.

The White House announced Tuesday an additional $3.9 billion in student loan forgiveness, this time for borrowers who attended defunct ITT Technical Institute.

The latest round brings Joe Biden's student loan forgiveness total to $32 billion since taking office – but progressive are still pushing for the president to cancel all existing federal student loans.

Borrowers are also still waiting to hear if federal loan pause will be extended for a fifth time as the latest deadline approaches.

The radical left’s obsession with Jan. 6 shows no signs of abating — rather, it is expanding and taking on new targets. Now, as the House select committee moves forward with more hearings in September, their sights are set on Republican state Senator Doug Mastriano (PA).

The Republican nominee for Pennsylvania governor pulled away from a scheduled deposition with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s hand-selected committee last week. His reason? A legal challenge to the committee’s deposition authority.

Dominant Biden regime hardliners are recklessly playing with fire by pushing things for possible war with Russia and China.

The risk of what’s unthinkable is more possible than at any previous time post-WW II — because lunatics run the Washington asylum.

With Russia overwhelmingly triumphing over US-created and supported Ukrainian Nazis, the empire of lies risks an unthinkable nuclear disaster by orchestrating and directing their attacks on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant — with intent to release and spread deadly radiation over much of central Europe.

Flagrantly breaching the One China principle by unauthorized high-level US visits to Taiwan, the Biden regime risks war in the Asia/Pacific.

Many wonder why Americans have little to no faith in Joe Biden's Administration, but Merrick Garland just answered. Less than a week since he chimed in on President Trump's home raid where he promised transparency, the DOJ backtracked and is now refusing to share information with the American public.

The Department of Justice is against the publication of the underlying affidavit verifying its unusual and severely flawed raid of Mar-a-Lago, just days after it decided to grant the warrant permitting the FBI search of former President Donald Trump's Florida resort.

Even the warrant execution was bungled, with the FBI taking a lot more than they were authorized to, and admitting that to Trump's lawyers. So now, when the call for an account of what they were supposed to be looking for grows louder, the FBI is doing their best Joe Biden and hiding out in the basement - unwilling to share what should be public information.

Team Biden’s proposed new Title IX regulations make it clear: They’re coming for your children.

The administration ostensibly drafted the rules to protect gay and transgender students from bullying and harassment, but they do nothing of the sort. In reality, President Biden is handing teachers a weapon to subvert parental prerogatives.

Title IX is a simple statute that outlaws “sex discrimination” in education. It says nothing about “gender” or “gender identity.” But the Biden administration wants to put its own spin on the law and redefine “sex” to include these categories.

This change has far-reaching implications. One is that it will be used to keep parents in the dark on everything from curricular material to the fact that a child is socially transitioning at school.

The Homeland Security Department’s inspector general has refused congressional requests for documents and staff testimony about the erasure of Secret Service communication related to the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol, angering top Democrats who accuse him of unlawfully obstructing their investigation.

In an Aug. 8 letter disclosed Tuesday, Inspector General Joseph Cuffari told the leaders of the House Oversight and Homeland Security committees that his office will not comply with their requests for internal documents and sit-down interviews due to the ongoing criminal investigation into deleted Secret Service text messages.

In response, House Oversight Chair Carolyn Maloney and Homeland Security Chair Bennie Thompson sent a letter Tuesday demanding Cuffari turn over documents and make his staff available to lawmakers or risk facing a potential congressional subpoena

“Your obstruction of the Committees’ investigations is unacceptable, and your justifications for this noncompliance appear to reflect a fundamental misunderstanding of Congress’s authority and your duties as an Inspector General,” Maloney and Thompson wrote in the letter.

Ukrainian artillery has fired multiple rockets directly at the coolant systems and nuclear waste storage site inside the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant in Energodar, local government administration member Vladimir Rogov told Russian media on Tuesday, warning that a successful strike may result in a radiation release equivalent to a “dirty bomb.”

“One of the guided missiles hit just 10 meters” from the barrels with spent nuclear fuel,” Rogov told Soloviev Live“Others hit a bit farther away, 50 to 200 meters.”

Since the storage site is out in the open, any hit will result in the release of nuclear waste ranging from dozens to hundreds of kilograms and contamination of the area, the official explained. “In plain language, that would be like a dirty bomb,” said Rogov.

Russia’s Federal Security Service said on Tuesday that a series of explosions earlier this month at high-voltage power lines used by the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant were carried out by Ukrainian saboteurs.

The plant is located in Kursk Region, which borders eastern Ukraine. The blasts, which occurred on August 4, 9, and 12, “led to a disruption of the technological process of the nuclear power plant’s functioning,” the FSB said. Six transmission towers were targeted overall. These towers transmit power from the plant to crucial infrastructure, such as industrial sites and transportation systems.

The FSB added that a terrorism investigation has been launched and that a search for the culprits is underway. Security at nuclear sites in Russia has been boosted.
