Thought for the day

On Friday, Antifa called for activists to riot in New York City in the wake of five former officers of the Memphis Police Department being charged with the murder of 29-year-old Tyre Nichols.

According to the Daily Mail, the outlet obtained a poster that told Antifa to assemble at various locations throughout NYC and then "Burn It All Down."

The Memphis Police Department said they will release the body cam footage from the incident Friday night at 7pm, EST.

The Daily Mail reports that Antifa has ordered its followers to bring "a list of weapons including rocks, kerosene and pipes." The body cam footage was said to be "worse than Rodney King" the outlet reports and the family's lawyer said it shows Nichols was beaten like a "human pinata."

The campaign video Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) released to announce his 2024 Senate campaign became the subject of an ethics complaint within a single day.

On Thursday, Schiff announced he is running to replace Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.) in the Senate in 2024. By Friday, a nonprofit organization called the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) had filed an ethics complaint against Schiff’s very first Senate campaign ad.

In the ad, Schiff featured a variety of news clips from his time in office, including floor footage from his involvement in the February 2020 Senate impeachment trial against then-President Donald Trump.

Our democracy is at great risk. Because GOP leaders care more about power than anything else.

And because our economy isn’t working for millions of hard working Americans.

We’re in the fight of our lives—a fight I’m ready to lead as California’s next U.S. Senator.

— Adam Schiff (@AdamSchiff) January 26, 2023

Following the release of Schiff’s campaign video, FACT sent a complaint to the House Ethics Committee, asking it to “immediately investigate whether Representative Adam Schiff abused official resources for political purposes.”

On Wednesday, Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) asked the Biden administration's judicial nominee, Kristen Clarke, a simple question about the Constitution, only to be met with a long silence and a pause. The question was simple: "Name two rights that are guaranteed by the Constitution."

Clarke, who is the current President and executive director of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, was taken off guard and paused in her answer, finally asking for a few moments to consider her response. After some time, she was able to provide a partial answer, citing the First and Fourth Amendments.

According to Senator Kennedy, the question was “not a trick” and was intended to be a way to gauge the nominee’s understanding of the Constitution.

Idaho Governor Brad Little has won a lawsuit against an illegal encampment that had been set up outside of the state Capitol building in Boise. The encampment, which had been set up by a group of individuals who were protesting against racial injustice and police brutality, had been causing disruptions and safety concerns for both state employees and visitors to the Capitol.

According to Fox News, Governor Little had filed the lawsuit in early January, arguing that the encampment was blocking the public from accessing the Capitol and its grounds, and that it posed a health and safety risk to those in the area. In addition, the Governor's office argued that the encampment was causing damage to the Capitol grounds and that the protesters were engaging in activities that were in violation of state laws and regulations.

In response to the lawsuit, the protesters argued that they had a First Amendment right to freedom of speech and assembly, and that the Governor's efforts to remove them were a violation of their rights. However, a judge sided with Governor Little, stating that while the protesters had a right to freedom of speech, they did not have the right to block access to the Capitol or engage in activities that were in violation of state laws.

The embargo is not only harming Cuban healthcare. It is also blocking Americans from life-saving Cuban treatments, Natalia Marques reports.

Scientists in Cuba believe that the breakthroughs they have made in the healthcare and technology sectors should be used to save and improve lives beyond the country’s borders.

This is why the island nation has developed important scientific and medical partnerships with organizations and governments across the globe, including with those in Mexico, Palestine, Angola, Colombia, Iran and Brazil.

However, such collaborations are difficult due to the blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States, which has now been in place for the last six decades.

In a conference, “Building Our Future,” held in Havana in November 2022, which brought together youth from Cuba and the United States, scientists at the Cuban Center of Molecular Immunology (CIM) said during a presentation that the blockade hurts the people of the United States, too.

By lifting the sanctions against Cuba, they argued, the people of the United States could have access to life-saving treatments being developed in Cuba, especially against diseases such as diabetes, which ravage working-class communities each year.

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Pope Francis said that homosexuality is not a crime. The comments come after posthumous allegations by Pope Benedict that the church was being pushed by a progressive agenda under Francis, and that Catholic seminaries were being used as "gay clubs."

Francis said in the interview that laws criminalizing homosexuality are "unjust," and called on Catholic bishops to welcome LGBTQ people into the church.

Tyre Nichols screamed for his mother and Memphis police officers struck him multiple times – including in the face while his hands were restrained – toward the end of the Black man’s deadly encounter with the officers this month, video released by the city shows.

And although paramedics arrive minutes after officers disengage, Nichols appears to be left multiple times on the pavement without assistance before an ambulance comes.

The city on Friday night released body camera and surveillance video of the January 7 traffic stop and beating that led to the 29-year-old’s death in hospital from his injuries three days later. The release comes a day after five Memphis police officers, who also are Black and have been fired, were charged with murder.

Canadians pride themselves on the beauty of their country and the generosity of their people.

And as you pass by rows of sparkling glass towers framed by the snow-capped Rockies and the Pacific waters of the Burrard Inlet, Vancouver is undeniably breathtaking — widely regarded as one of the world’s most ‘desirable’ cities to live in.

But drive down East Hastings Street and all such optimism is dispelled.

For block after block in this downtown neighbourhood has been surrendered to hundreds of desperate drug addicts.

According to eyewitnesses, Houck and the pro-abortion activist, who has not been named, engaged in a heated argument that escalated into a physical altercation. Houck allegedly grabbed the individual by the arm and pushed them away from the clinic entrance.

The FBI has revealed the results of a month-long campaign designed to thwart an infamous ransomware group known for extorting hospitals, school districts and critical infrastructure. On Thursday, the agency announced that it had worked with law enforcement agencies in Germany and the Netherlands to take control of the servers used by the Hive criminal gang to communicate with its members, thus cutting off its ability to extort its victims.

The group’s dark web site now displays a message in both English and Russian stating: “This hidden site has been seized. The Federal Bureau of Investigation seized this site as part of a coordinated law enforcement action taken against Hive Ransomware.”

Another message indicates that this action was taken by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida and the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section of the Department of Justice with substantial assistance from Europol.

Cyberattacks on state institutions in the Kaliningrad region and Moscow's energy infrastructure are simulated during NATO exercises that the UK conducts on a regular basis, Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov said in an interview with TASS.

"The UK is systematically targeting Russia with their offensive capabilities in the information sphere. Exercises are held on a regular basis, including under the auspices of NATO, to model attacks using information and communication technologies on Russian vital information infrastructure facilities. In particular, attacks on state institutions in the Kaliningrad region and the energy system of Moscow are simulated," he said.

Commenting on The Times reports about UK national cybersecurity forces purposefully recruiting IT specialists who speak Russian, Syromolotov noted there is "nothing surprising" in these attempts.

Some say the U.S. has no interest in Ukraine, or if it does, it is mostly moral, but the U.S. has a vital interest in the war in Ukraine, Javan wrote.

Weakening Russia is only one of its motivations to prolong the war in Ukraine to maintain its control over the politics, economy, and security of Europe.
This is why the U.S. wants a war in Ukraine to the detriment of this eastern European country and the continent as a whole.

Given the special geopolitical situation of Ukraine, dominations over international highways and waterways are as important as a land war for the United States. Therefore, if a country dominates the European continent in such a way that it can take over its human and material resources, it will mean the emergence of a threatening naval force against the U.S.

In order to prevent others from dominating the European peninsula, America has to deal with it before it happens.

Although Russia launched a preemptive war on Ukraine to restrict NATO, even if Russia were to contain Ukraine, western Ukraine would remain a NATO ally.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has dismissed proposals issued this week in Washington by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his Under Secretary, Victoria Nuland. Zakharova has confirmed that Russia’s military plan for the Ukraine will not be interrupted or delayed.

“It is not necessary to talk about what will happen if someone does something [in the Ukraine],” Zakharova said. “There is a situation on the ground that we are solving. Everything. This is not a question of guesswork, but of our assessment of what is happening. This is based on the situation on the ground and direct political statements by Western politicians. Given that all negotiations have been terminated by Ukraine, this issue will be resolved on the ground. Under pressure or on its own, Kiev has banned any negotiations with Russia at the government level. So that’s it. The rest is for the military experts.”

Russia has also dismissed German Chancellor Olaf Scholz as the successor of the Nazi Wehrmacht and the puppet of the US Government. Scholz, according to Zakharova,  is one of the Germans who “lack[s] the spirit to make the right choice, not to repeat the mistakes of their ancestors, for which the people of Germany, among others, paid a huge price… We remember well what German tanks are. These are machines which have become a symbol,  not just of death and deadly ideology, but of hatred of humanity — a global, existential threat to the entire planet… What do they expect in Germany? That armoured vehicles in camouflage cover with iron crosses – symbols of the German armed forces both then and now will pass through our cities and villages? We remember how it ended then. Do they remember in Berlin?.. The day of the decision on the supply of Leopards to Ukraine…is also historic because [it is] the total loss of Germany’s sovereignty. [Olaf] Scholz has forever signed the rejection of an independent German foreign policy. He has abandoned everything that his predecessors had built decades after the Second World War.”

Maria Zakharova delivered a moving and powerful message to Olaf Sholz following his disastrous decision to open old wounds by delivering German Panzers once again to fight Russians. A U.S. government body held a Congressional briefing plotting ways to break up Russia as a country, in the name of supposed “decolonization.”

The participants urged the United States to give more support to separatist movements inside Russia and in the diaspora.

They proposed the independence of numerous republics in the Russian Federation, including Chechnya, Tatarstan, and Dagestan, as well as historic areas that existed centuries ago such as Circassia.

This is far from the first time that hawks in Washington have fantasized about carving up foreign countries. During the first cold war, the U.S. sponsored secessionist groups inside the Soviet Union. In the 1990s, the U.S.-led NATO military cartel successfully dismantled Yugoslavia. And Washington has long backed separatists in the Chinese regions of Tibet, Xinjiang, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

The United States has suffered 300,000 excess deaths, not related to COVID-19 since 2020. While COVID lockdowns are being blamed for the deaths, something else was rolled out that may be having an impact.

The latest official data shows there were 1.26 million excess deaths between February 2020 and the end of 2022, of which around 295,000 did not have COVID as their main cause of death on their death certificates. And those who did were likely just “overcounted” in an effort to drum up the fear and convince people to take an injection that is escaping blame.

The ruling class and their mainstream media puppets are blaming the death surges on cancerheart disease, drug overdoses, and firearms during the pandemic, however, a full analysis by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is still likely weeks away.

Cases of the omicron XBB.1.5 subvariant of covid are rising all across the country, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). And those most likely to be infected with it are people who took the jab.

Nearly half, or 43 percent, of all new covid cases across the United States, are XBB.1.5, while upwards of 73 percent of all new cases in New York City are this particular subvariant – the Big Apple being one of the most fully vaccinated cities in the country.

(Related: More than a year ago, the CDC confirmed that most new cases of the previous circulating strain of omicron also occurred in the fully jabbed.)

Like most other strains of covid, XBB.1.5 is little more than the sniffles for most people, but the government and media continue to make a big deal about it to keep the fearmongering going for as long as possible.

There is also a continued push for people to get “boosted” with the latest injections from Pfizer and Moderna, which are desperate to keep the cash flowing and need a cover story to make that happen.

The European Union should move its economy to a wartime footing amid the Ukraine conflict, Manfred Weber, the president of the European People’s Party (EPP), suggested on Thursday. He said that the move is required to ramp up the bloc's own defense potential, and that of Kiev.

Speaking to the newspapers of the Funke media group, Weber called for the reorganization of the EU arms industry. The MEP believes that the bloc needs “a kind of war economy… in order to be able to guarantee stability and security”.

“The European states are currently not in a position to provide the necessary armaments quickly enough, neither for our own defense, nor for Ukraine,” he lamented. To remedy the situation, Weber argued, the EU should “break new ground,” pointing out that complex allocation structures are not working the way they are supposed to.

The MEP pointed out that Germany had established a €100 billion ($109 billion) special defense fund amid the Ukraine conflict, but “hardly anything happens because the bureaucracy is paralyzing.” “A year after the start of the war, the armaments companies have hardly received any orders,” he added.

The US is leaving no room for compromise on sanctions and potential negotiations with Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.

His statement came after US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland suggested that restrictions on Moscow could be eased if it hands back its newly incorporated territories to Ukraine.

“We still don’t see anything [new] in Madame Nuland’s words. We are absolutely not inclined to exaggerate their importance,” Peskov told reporters.

The spokesman added that Nuland “has practically repeated the set of theses that show… the lack of flexibility in the position of the US, which, in turn, is completely different from our position.”

During a hearing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday, Nuland suggested that Secretary of State Antony Blinken would “favor sanctions relief” if Moscow decides to “negotiate seriously and withdraw its forces from Ukraine and return territory.”

US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland has expressed joy over the destruction of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. She also argued that, even if the US had sanctioned the infrastructure weeks before the Ukraine conflict broke out, this would not have prevented hostilities.

During a Senate hearing on Thursday, Nuland was asked by Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) whether his legislation aimed at sanctioning the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which was voted down in January 2022, could have stopped the conflict before it began.

“Like you, I am, and I think the administration is, very gratified to know that Nord Stream 2 is now, as you like to say, a hunk of metal at the bottom of the sea,” Nuland said. She noted that she had been involved in negotiations with Russia prior to the conflict in a bid to “prevent this war.”

The mom of an 18-year-old Italian woman who was raped and murdered by a Nigerian drug dealer wore a T-shirt showing the teen’s dismembered body in court to protest his appeal of part of his conviction.

Pamela Mastropietro was raped and butchered by 32-year-old Innocent Oseghale in the central Italy town of Macerta in January 2018.

Oseghale — who stuffed the teen’s mutilated remains inside two suitcases and dumped them in a ditch — was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of murder, rape and destruction of a body.

On Wednesday, the brute appeared in court in Perugia to appeal his rape conviction, claiming he did not sexually assault Mastropietro in a bid to shorten his sentence, the Italian news outlet ANSA reported.

The victim’s mother, Alessandra Verni, attended the hearing wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with harrowing images of her daughter’s remains — including her decapitated head lying on a pathologist’s table.

The anguished woman and Oseghale nearly came to blows and had to be separated as he was led away shouting: “Enough judicial oppression!”

As she confronted the ruthless killer, Verni screamed: “Tell me! Tell me what you want!”
