To err is human. And behind every technological device, even one as sophisticated as an AI chatbot, there are humans and their biases involved.

The regrettable – and frankly, ridiculous – first impressions left by Google’s Gemini could possibly be partially disregarded as an honest mistake, was it not for the fact that parent company Alphabet has such a horrible track record.

In the past, Google has repeatedly shown the same ‘woke’ bias as the AI application, and also engaged in censuring information on behalf of the Biden administration.

So there’s a very good case to be made that they may be doing it again.

So the House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan decided to chase that thread. He wrote a letter to Alphabet, demanding explanations about the degree of influence that the Biden administration may have had on the Gemini AI program.

The Judiciary Committee asked for documents on the creation and deployment of the chatbot.

"We definitely messed up on the image generation, and it was mostly due to not thorough testing," Google co-founder Sergey Brin said at the Gemini Hackathon regarding the controversy surrounding Gemini, a woke artificial intelligence bot, which has been criticized for misinformation and disinformation.

A video featuring, Brin, currently a major shareholder at Alphabet, the parent company of Google, shows him making no apologies for the historical inaccuracies and woke biases in Gemini.

The Biden administration has announced that it's launching a probe into Chinese “smart cars,” vowing to protect the American automobile industry. As is conventional, the White House branded the cars a “national security threat” and claimed, baselessly, that they can transmit data back to China.

Of course, any seasoned and good-faith observer should know that the rhetoric of “national security threats” is always used as a justifying premise, often without evidence, in order to blacklist a given Chinese product or service and merit its exclusion from the American market. Hence Huawei among other Chinese companies has also been treated similarly.

This rhetoric has often been borderline hysterical, one of the recent examples being Florida Senator Rick Scott saying that Chinese-exported garlic was a national security threat. That may be an outlier, but when it comes to technology, anything and everything from China is usually accused of espionage, with the political consensus of paranoia being used to justify such harsh policy measures.

Webmaster addition: American car makers are backing away from electric vehicles because very few people want to buy them.

Several key architects of the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq 21 years ago are presenting a plan for rebuilding and “de-radicalizing” the surviving population of Gaza, while ensuring that Israel retains “freedom of action” to continue operations against Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

The plan, which was published as a report Thursday by the hard-line neo-conservative Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs, or JINSA, and the Vandenberg Coalition, is calling for the creation of a private entity, the “International Trust for Gaza Relief and Reconstruction” to be led by “a group of Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates” and “supported by the United States and other nations.”

With regard to Palestinian participation, the report by the “Gaza Futures Task Force,” envisages an advisory board “composed primarily of non-Hamas Gazans from Gaza, the West Bank, and diaspora.” In addition, the Palestinian Authority, which is based on the West Bank, “should be consulted in, and publicly bless,” the creation of the Trust while itself undergoing a process of “revamping.”

In addition to granting Israel license to intervene against Hamas and Islamic Jihad within Gaza, the plan calls for security to be provided by the Trust’s leaders and “capable forces from non-regional states with close ties to Israel,” as well as “vetted Gazans.” The Trust should also be empowered to “hire private security contractors with good reputations among Western militaries” in “close coordination with Israeli security forces,” according to the report.

The task force that produced the report consists of nine members, four of whom played key roles as Middle East policymakers under former President George W. Bush and in the run-up to and aftermath of the disastrous Iraq invasion in 2003.

The group is chaired by John Hannah, who served as deputy national security advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney from 2001 to 2005 and then as Cheney’s national security advisor (2005-2009), replacing Lewis “Scooter” Libby, who resigned his position after being indicted for perjury. Libby, who was later given a full pardon by former President Donald Trump, is also a member of the Gaza task force.

Claire's Observations: Remember the horrific  war in Iraq ?!?!?  This "plan" is being brought to you courtesy of the self-same group which thought a war in Iraq, would provide "great results" for the US, including Iraq's oil.

And right now, who are the countries most benefiting Iraq's oil production?!?  A Google query this morning, indicates the following:

Who gets most if Iraq's Oil in 2024?

The main destination of Crude Petroleum exports from Iraq are: China ($23.1B), India ($22.1B), Greece ($8.67B), Italy ($3.97B), and South Korea ($3.5B).

And I am quite sure that Academi (formerly, Blackwater, a US mercenary group and now a training company under the Constellis umbrella) will have a LARGE seat at the table, should this "plan", which completely ignores Palestinians' legitimate grievances, come to pass.

Another American Abrams tank was destroyed by the Russian troops with FPV drones, a representative of the UAV's manufacturer told Sputnik.

“Today, near Avdeyevka, our Upyr drones destroyed an Abrams tank," a representative of the drone manufacturer said. "It was destroyed by fighters from the Tsentr group."

"The American vehicle came close to our positions [and] the infantrymen shot out its track with an RPG-7 grenade launcher," the company representative added. "The stopped tank was burned by a crew of FPV drones. They used 2 kamikaze [drone] Upyr of our production."

Russian soldiers have already destroyed two US-made Abrams tanks near Avdeyevka, also with the help of FPV-drones.

The People’s Republic was anointed the global ‘workshop of the world’ in the 2000s following its accession into the World Trade Organization in 2001, with its manufacturing exports edging out the US and European competition thanks to a combination of Western corporate executives’ greed and a shrewd Chinese play to promote exports through subsidies.

America’s leading business newspaper is urging countries around the world to prepare for a second ‘China Shock’ as the Asian manufacturing giant ramps up the exports of competitively priced, high-value manufacturing goods after satiating its home market.

The Wall Street Journal fears the 'sequel' to the early 2000s Chinese export boom, which came at the cost of manufacturing jobs in the US and Europe, could be even more extensive than its original iteration, with the Asian nation now accounting for a much larger share of the world economy.

According to the World Bank, China accounted for ‘just’ 10 percent of global manufacturing output and 5 percent of all goods exports two decades ago – compared with 31 percent and 14 percent in 2022, respectively.

There is nothing new in Texan politicians raising the prospect of seceding from the US. But such calls gained fresh momentum in January during the escalating border standoff between Texas and the federal government, over Governor Greg Abbott decision to install barbed wire along the border with Mexico.

As Super Tuesday nears, Texan voters have been cautioned against casting their ballots for a growing number of pro-secession candidates.

Presidential primaries and caucuses will take place in over a dozen states on March 5, with Republican and Democrat contenders hoping to win enough delegates to seal their nomination as presidential candidate.

The Dallas Morning News ran a story on March 2 — Texas independence day — warning that many candidates for the Lone Star state’s House of Representatives and other offices have signed the “Take Texas Back” pledge.

The pledge requires candidates to "vow their commitment to a contract with Texans, promising to vote and act solely in the best interests of Texans" if they are elected. Those who sign it also promise to legislate for a referendum for Texan independence.

Ukraine’s president has complained to his Western sponsors about the holdup in arms deliveries. Veteran Soviet and Russian officer and military journalist Viktor Litovkin tells Sputnik how Kiev allowed itself to become trapped in a highly unenviable strategic position.

President Zelensky slammed his NATO patrons on Saturday, accusing them of playing “internal political games” instead of ramping up much-needed military support for Kiev.

“This is impossible to understand. It is impossible to agree to this. And it will be impossible to forget; the world will remember this,” Zelensky said, emphasizing that Kiev’s ‘partners’ have “enough air defense systems” and that “Kiev hasn’t asked for anything more than needed” for its defense.

The Yemeni militia began a campaign of hijackings, missile and drone attacks against commercial ships operating in the crucial Red Sea global trade chokepoint in November, vowing to target any vessel thought to be affiliated with Israel, and subsequently shutting down a good chunk of global trade.

London has only itself to blame for attacks targeting its commercial vessels in the Red Sea, and the strikes will continue, officials from Yemen’s Ansar Allah (Houthi) militia said in a series of statements over the weekend.

“Yemen will continue to sink more British ships, and any repercussions or other damages will be added to Britain’s bill,” Houthi deputy foreign minister Hussein al-Ezzi said in an X post Sunday.

“[The UK] is a rogue state that attacks Yemen and partners with America in sponsoring ongoing crimes against civilians in Gaza,” al-Ezzi wrote, referencing the joint US-UK campaign of airstrikes inside Yemen which the Pentagon says are aimed at degrading the Houthis’ missile and drone capabilities.

A startling study this week found ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are linked to 32 diseases that effect every major organ in the body.

We've known forever that donuts and chips are terrible for us - but, as I found out first-hand this week, much of the things you eat and consider 'healthy' have been through several rounds of industrial processing.

Experts say it's not enough to analyze the labels for calories, fat, or sugar anymore - it's the teeny tiny fine print on the back of the labels you should really look out for: the ingredients list.

A simple rule of thumb is to stick to products with fewer than five ingredients and avoid items with ingredients that are hard to pronounce.

So that was my goal when I went grocery shopping for my usual meals at three popular grocery stores - Wegman's, Whole Foods and Trader Joe's.

The grandson of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Abbas Ahmed Halil, was one of the three Hezbollah terrorists killed on Saturday by an IDF strike in Neqoura in south Lebanon, according to a report by the Syrian radio channel Voice of the Capital on Sunday.

This is yet to be confirmed by official sources, but the report cites the same attack in which the IDF  announced that three Hezbollah operatives were killed in a vehicle in southern Lebanon after it was attacked by an Israeli drone strike.

The Hezbollah-affiliated newspaper Al-Manar also airstrike in the village of Kila in southern Lebanon and artillery strikes in the villages of Aitaroun and Belida, which are close to the border with Israel.

Podcast host Joe Rogan suggested that the Democratic Party’s presidential ticket for the 2024 election might end up in the hands of California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

According to Rogan, the questions about President Joe Biden’s mental fitness have reached a point where the Democratic Party cannot hide that something is wrong since Special Counsel Robert Hur released a report about him describing him as an “elderly man with a poor memory.”

Rogan went into the speculations when his guest on the podcast, Chris Williamson said, “Basically, you can’t prosecute this guy because he’s non compos mentis, but you can let him run for the President of the United States in November… so that’s the that’s the world that we’ve managed to get into.”

Suggesting that the president will eventually be abandoned by his family, he stated, “Don’t you think that that’s a ruse, him running for president? I think they’re gonna get rid of him, I think they’re gonna move him out, they’re gonna force him to step down. That’s what I think.”

“If I had to guess, and it’s just speculation, I’d say they’re setting up Gavin Newsom for it,” he added.

The GOP-led House is preparing to hold Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in contempt of Congress for his refusal to hand over documents related to the Biden administration’s withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan in 2021.

On Thursday, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) announced that his committee will look into a resolution that recommends holding Blinken in contempt of Congress due to his refusal to comply with a subpoena issued in July for documents, including interview notes used in drafting the the After-Action Review on the Afghanistan withdrawal.

“It has been nearly 14 months since we first requested these documents that are critical to our investigation in the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. The ball is in the secretary’s court – if he wants to avoid being the first Secretary of State in history to be held in contempt of Congress, he can provide these documents,” McCaul said.

McCaul had indicated the panel’s readiness to hold Blinken in contempt of Congress in a letter on Monday in which he wrote, “The law does not afford the State Department blanket authority to hide behind ‘Executive Branch confidentiality interests’ to obstruct Congress’s access to the truth.”

One of the greatest mysteries of the modern era, the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, has newfound hope.

After United States technology company Ocean Infinity suggested a new search in the southern Indian Ocean, where the airplane is believed to have fallen 10 years ago, the Malaysian government announced on Sunday that it may resume the search for the missing aircraft.

For 10 years, the victims’ families have been in the dark about their loved ones’ whereabouts.

The jet was over the South China Sea when air traffic controllers lost contact with it just after midnight on March 8th, 2014, local time.

The jet swerved off course and, over the next few weeks, meticulous examination of radar tracking and a series of satellite “pings” revealed that the jet veered off course and flew west over the South East Asia peninsula before turning south over the Indian Ocean.

With the technology company vowing not to be paid unless it locates Flight MH370, which inexplicably disappeared over the Indian Ocean 10 years ago, Malaysia may be resuming the search.

A source recently sent to me an article by a well-placed Russian foreign affairs expert with a note attached: “He thinks like you do.” Not entirely, but we share some of the same concerns.

“What Is To Be Done?,” by Sergei A. Karaganov, honorary chairman of the Presidium of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, Moscow ( https://eng.globalaffairs.ru/articles/an-age-of-wars-what-is-to-be-done/ ) reflects my own views expressed on many occasions, such as that in the face of the Western world’s hostility, Russia should avoid continuing conflict by turning to the East to China and India and to the expansion of BRICS. Like myself Karaganov hopes to avoid the death of mankind in nuclear war. He writes off the pro-Western Atlanticist Integrationist Russian liberals who clinged too long to their fantasy of being an accepted part of the West. Likely, it was this delusional collection of Russian liberals who are responsible for the failures in judgment that Karaganov brings home to the Kremlin, the very same failures that I have pointed out. The last thing Russia needs is interdependence with the West.

Karaganov points out that Russia has Asian roots dating from the days of Mongol overlords that are as strong as Western roots and that it is China that is rising, not Europe and the US which he regards as essentially washed up politically, economically, morally, and spiritually.

Shehbaz Sharif was sworn in as Pakistan's new prime minister Sunday amid a swirl of accusations that his party, in concert with the Pakistani military, rigged the elections.

Earlier this month, voters in Pakistan woke up to what initially appeared to be an overwhelming victory to former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and a strong rebuke to the powerful military-backed government in the country’s parliamentary elections. Instead, the election was ultimately called for the military's preferred candidate, Sharif, of the conservative Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) party.

Early results, broadcast widely by the Pakistani media, had shown a landslide victory for PTI. After the election was called for Sharif's party, nonpartisan observers like the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) found that there were election law violations at over two-thirds of polling sites, which almost certainly helped change the outcomes.

US Attorney General Merrick Garland delivered remarks on ‘Bloody Sunday’ at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Selma, Alabama.

Garland told the black churchgoers that voter ID requirements are “discriminatory” and that he’s fighting to stop oppressive laws.

“The right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy, the right from which all others flow. It is a right that members of this community bled for,” Garland said to the churchgoers.

Garland insisted the “right to vote is still under attack.”

“And that is why the Justice Department is fighting back,” he said. “That is why, one of the first things I did as Attorney General was to double the number of lawyers in the Voting Section of the Civil Rights Division. ”

Garland said voter ID requirements and restrictions of ballot ‘drop boxes’ are “discriminatory, burdensome and unnecessary.”

Following multiple reports from Russian and Western sources that the Zircon hypersonic cruise missile was used by Russian forces to support ongoing operations in Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin confirmed in an address to the Russian Federal Assembly on February 29 that the missile had seen its first combat launch. "The Zircon sea-launched hypersonic strike system has already been used in combat. It was not mentioned in the 2018 message. But this system, too, is already in service," he stated. The president elaborated that the missile was capable of reaching Mach 9 speeds and had a range of more than 1,000 kilometres. His statement notably came exactly six years after he had in a previous address announced the existence of the system, alongside five other strategic weapons systems. These included the Sarmat silo-based intercontinental range ballistic missile, the Avangard intercontinental range hypersonic glide vehicle, the Kinzhal air launched ballistic missile, the Poseidon unmanned nuclear armed submarine and the 9M730 Burevestnik nuclear-powered cruise missile. The Zircon’s first use thus allowed Russian sources to better emphasize the significant progress made bringing all these assets to an operational status now operational.

More than two months of direct fighting with the Houthis has heavily taxed the U.S. military, which is spending a significant amount of money to take down cheap drones, launch retaliatory strikes and defend against rebels who are, in turn, shooting down pricey American drones.

In most cases, the U.S. is launching $2 million defense missiles to stop $2,000 Houthi drones, a discrepancy that the Yemeni rebel group has noted in its statements mocking Washington.

The cost of taking on the Houthis is also becoming more apparent as the defiant fighters show no signs of stopping and could lock the U.S. into a long conflict — and it’s throwing the world into a tough spot.

“North Yemen is becoming like North Korea when it comes to firing rockets over the seas,” said Mohammed al-Basha, a Yemen and Middle East expert at Navanti Group. “It’s going to be a long-term issue for not just us, but for the world.”

It took 10 years and three rounds of in vitro fertilization for Rania Abu Anza to become pregnant, and only seconds for her to lose her five-month-old twins, a boy and a girl.

An Israeli strike hit the home of her extended family in the southern Gaza city of Rafah late Saturday, killing her children, her husband and 11 other relatives and leaving another nine missing under the rubble, according to survivors and local health officials.

She had woken up at around 10 p.m. to breastfeed Naeim, the boy, and went back to sleep with him in one arm and Wissam, the girl, in the other. Her husband was sleeping beside them.

The explosion came an hour and a half later. The house collapsed.
