Thought for the day

"These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their Country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph." -- Thomas Paine December 23, 1776

Monumental: Florida BANS Child Mutilation After Fiery Testimonies (Video)

The votes are in, and the Florida Board of Medicine has spoken.

On Friday, board members of the Florida Boards of Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine Joint Rules/Legislative Committee Rule Workshop held a hearing to decide what actions will be allowed for children’s sex changes in Florida, according to a report by The Post Millennial.

Joseph Ladapo, Florida’s Surgeon General, said that the state should not permit sex changes, whether it be via drugs or surgery.

The decision came after testimony from adults who have gone through a transition, parents of children currently going through transition, and parents who lost their child due to gender transition.

The board voted against using surgery, cross-sex hormones, and puberty blockers as treatments for minors experiencing gender dysphoria. The recommendation for disallowing these types of procedures goes to the entire board next week for a vote.

The guns used in the Roxborough High School shooting have surfaced again in a disturbing manner. The shooting at the high school on September 27 claimed the life of 14-year-old Nicholas Elizalde, whose family has been hoping for arrests and justice. An arrest has now been made, but rather than being in regard to the shooting it is of the fate of the guns used.

A deputy sheriff has been arrested by federal agents in Philadelphia after the law enforcement official was caught on video selling two guns that were used in a school shooting. The two guns were used in the deadly shooting after a football scrimmage at Roxborough High School.According to court documents, both of the firearms sold during that transaction were traced by law enforcement and were found to have been used in the Sept. 27 shooting in Roxborough that killed a 14-year-old boy and injured four other teens.

Deputy Sheriff Samir Ahmad then tried to cash in on the tragic shooting by selling the guns used in the attack. Ahmad was a deputy sheriff in the city of Philadelphia from 2018-2022.

The Times went on to say:

DePape followed a number of conservative creators online, including Tim Pool, Glenn Beck, DailyWire+ and the Epoch Times. He also followed an account on YouTube called Black Pilled and reposted several of its videos on his blog. “Blackpilling” is internet slang for coming to believe supposedly unacceptable facts about society, and the reposted videos include accusations such as the FBI covering up child rape.

The problem is the websites cited by the mainstream media that were supposedly aligned with DePape were scraped on Friday and they are no longer active Saturday.

He’s out there trying to blame Trump supporters for the bizarre, and very weird attack on Paul Pelosi. Keep in mind, the man who supposedly attacked Paul is a hippy from Berkeley, who made hemp bracelets and lived in a Castro-loving nudist colony.

When the media is already wrapping this up as a far-right extremist, leave it to the real investigators to find more details.

Watch the photos below from his last confirmed address:

North Korea’s Foreign Ministry criticized the United States for expanding joint military exercises with South Korea that it claims are practice for a potential invasion, and it warned Tuesday of “more powerful follow-up measures” in response.

The statement from the ministry came as the U.S. and South Korea conduct aerial drills involving more than 200 warplanes, including their advanced F-35 fighter jets, as they step up their defense posture in the face of North Korea’s increased weapons testing and growing nuclear threat.

North Korea has ramped up its weapons demonstrations to a record pace this year, launching more than 40 ballistic missiles, including developmental intercontinental ballistic missiles and an intermediate-range missile fired over Japan. The North has punctuated those tests with an escalatory nuclear doctrine that authorizes preemptive nuclear attacks in loosely defined crisis situations.

The U.S. and South Korea have resumed large-scale military drills this year after downsizing or suspending them in past years as part of efforts to create diplomatic space with Pyongyang and because of the pandemic.

Active shootings are reported in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev, which has been plunged into darkness as a result of Russian strikes on energy infrastructure.

Since February 2022, various gangs became active in Kiev, some robbing residents, some banks and stores. The previous peak of criminal gang activity was in March-April 2022. At that time, the Russian military was near Kiev, causing panic among some citizens and hope for looting amidst the chaos for others.

Today, the story seems to be repeated. The situation is aggravated by the impoverishment of the population, a sense of hopelessness, and the expectation of freezing weather in a de-energized city.

Just days after a Senate report was published outlining how the origins of Covid were more likely than not the result of a "research related incident", Beijing has gone on the defensive, blaming the lab leak theory on "anti-China forces," Bloomberg reported this weekend.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said on Monday that the idea that Covid leaked from a lab in Wuhan is "nothing but a lie". According to Bloomberg, Zhao also said that China has maintained a consistent position on the origins of the virus, seemingly alluding to the idea that the virus originated in a Wuhan wet market.

China "opposes all forms of political manipulation", Zhao went on say, according to the report.

Iran's military has seized a foreign-flagged tanker on suspicion of illegal smuggling operations, state media announced Monday.

While the tanker or flag it is flying under hasn't been identified by Tehran authorities, it was said to be carrying 2.9 million gallons of "smuggled fuel" - worth an estimated $6.6 millionaccording to a statement of an Iranian official.

The country's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) boarded and took control of the vessel in the Persian Gulf. Tehran has long complained about and tried to crackdown on what it has described as persistent smuggling of its oil and fuel to Gulf states.

"The captain and crew of this foreign tanker are also detained as investigations and legal procedures are being completed," Iran's judiciary chief of the southern province of Hormozgan, Mojtaba Ghahremani, said in a video address.

"All vessels which have delivered fuel to the violating tanker will also be subject to prosecution," Ghahremani added.

State media showed a clip of the seized vessel with IRGC operatives approaching it. This practice of intercepting foreign vessels in the vital Strait of Hormuz waterway has put Iran's navy on a crash course with the US military presence in the region. Of late, the IRGC has sought to seize US sea drones in the region.

Mainstream punditry in the latter half of 2022 is rife with op-eds arguing that the US needs to vastly increase military spending because a world war is about to erupt, and they always frame it as though this would be something that happens to the US, as though its own actions would have nothing to do with it. As though it would not be the direct result of the US-centralized empire continually accelerating towards that horrific event while refusing every possible diplomatic off-ramp due to its inability to relinquish its goal of total unipolar planetary domination.

Restless residents of the country’s major coastal cities continue to eye the exits, according to a new study.

A record number of homebuyers want to decamp to new metro areas — with New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles leading the charge, according to a report from real estate site Redfin.

About 24% of all those shopping for houses sought digs in different cities in the third quarter of this year — a new all-time high, the study found.

“With a recession looming and household expenses high, many people can’t afford to buy a home in an expensive area and/or want to save money in case of an emergency, which makes relocating somewhere more affordable an attractive option,” said Redfin Economics Research Lead Chen Zhao.

... as the Fed's balance sheet just shrank by $72BN in the past month, its biggest decline since the early days of the covid crisis...

... many have asked just where will the demand come from to purchase all those trillions in debt that have to be sold over the next two years during which time the Fed's balance sheet will (supposedly) continue to shrink, and just when will the Treasury commit to TSY buybacks since the Fed won't do more QE for at least a few more months (until the BLS admits just how ugly US payrolls truly are, a few weeks after the midterms) as the Treasury market continues to fracture and break with every week that nothing happens.

With inflation, prices are up pretty much across the board, but if you're looking for a new gun for recreation or self-defense, here's a hint: the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) is offering them at an absolute steal. Seriously, the federal agency tasked with enforcing firearms regulations has such poor security that thousands of guns and gun parts once in its possession disappeared in the hands of thieves. And it has yet to fully implement recommended reforms.

"Since September 2015, the ATF has utilized the National Disposal Branch (NDB), formerly the National Firearms and Ammunition Destruction (NFAD) Branch, to centralize and streamline the disposal process of forfeited and ATF-owned firearms. Each year, the ATF destroys thousands of firearms at the NDB," the U.S. Justice Department's Inspector General noted in announcing a recent report. "The DOJ Office of the Inspector General (OIG) undertook this audit following the discovery that thousands of firearms, firearm parts, and ammunition had been stolen from NFAD from 2016 to 2019."

So, for three years, the agency that enforces every petty and intrusive federal regulation regarding firearms (as well as alcohol, tobacco, and explosives) let its own security personnel ("a DHS contract security guard was convicted in connection with these thefts") pilfer its inventory.

Strictly speaking, the report isn't about the thefts themselves, which were discovered by accident during a traffic stop. The recent report delved into the ATF's progress in implementing anything resembling the security procedures it requires of the private gun dealers it oversees—or maybe just something more challenging than leaving "intact weapons … in unsecured boxes and unlocked containers." So, how is the ATF doing at storing firearms at least as securely as you might expect of private businesses?

A national digital ID system for U.S. citizens is fast becoming a reality following a vote by the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee to advance the Improving Digital Identity Act

Although the concerns about digital IDs are real, it's important to separate the facts from the fearmongering fiction.

In simple language, a digital identity enables an individual to prove who they are in the virtual world. Proponents claim digital IDs offer greater privacy than traditional forms of identification and can help minimize some of the risks associated with physical documents such as driver's licenses, passports, etc. Others, though, are quick to sound the alarm, warning that the introduction of digital IDs will almost certainly lead to an erosion of civil liberties.

"Digital is often touted as the 'future,' and many people cast such a transition as inevitable," writes Jay Stanley, a senior policy analyst at the ACLU, who believes digital IDs could prove to be a privacy nightmare. "But digital is not always better — especially when systems are exclusively digital."

"There’s a reason that most jurisdictions have spurned electronic voting in favor of paper ballots, for example," Stanley writes. With voting software in some states vulnerable to outside interference, paper ballots increasingly appear to be much safer.

A Republican takeover of the House next year would instantly shift the lower chamber from a force allied with President Biden to perhaps his fiercest collective adversary — one with real power to disrupt the second half of the president’s first term.

But nowhere is that shift expected to be more pronounced than the Judiciary Committee, where Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) — a conservative firebrand and staunch supporter of former President Trump — is poised to take the gavel.

Jordan, a founder and former head of the far-right House Freedom Caucus, has already made clear his intent to use the panel to launch what would certainly be some of the most high-profile — and politically significant — investigations next year into the operations of both the White House and the broader administration.

The myth, of course, is that calibrated brinkmanship – the willingness to stand “eyeball to eyeball” with the Soviets until they “blinked,” as Secretary of State Dean Rusk put it – is what carried the day in 1962. This myth, mid-wifed by the Kennedy family and its hagiographers, portrayed the United States’s victory over the Soviet Union as the outcome of President Kennedy’s greater willingness to stand up to a belligerent bully until he backed down and to inch closer to nuclear Armageddon than his opponent was willing to. It emphasized, in other words, intimidation over negotiation, unilateral concessions over reciprocal ones.

The reality is quite different. As revealed in numerous accounts, based on both U.S. and Soviet sources, the peaceful resolution of the crisis (the Soviet Union’s withdrawal of its missiles from Cuba) came after a series of secret meetings in which Robert F. Kennedy offered Soviet Ambassador to the U.S. Anatoly Dobrynin an old-fashioned diplomatic deal: a pledge not to invade Cuba coupled with a parallel commitment to withdraw U.S. nuclear-tipped missiles in Turkey. The terms, according to RFK’s posthumous memoir “Thirteen Days,” were that this deal would never be publicly acknowledged by Washington, and that the Soviets should not see it as a quid pro quo arrangement, even though that is exactly what it was.
