"I have ever deemed it fundamental for the United States never to take active part in the quarrels of Europe. Their political interests are entirely distinct from ours. Their mutual jealousies, their balance of power, their complicated alliances, their forms and principles of government, are all foreign to us. They are nations of eternal war." -- Thomas Jefferson

The Dean’s List

As I’ve noted, public school enrollment continues to plummet. California public schools are no different.

A June report from the Public Policy Institute of California notes, “Enrollment in California’s public schools has fallen by 6% since 2013.” Six percent of California’s student population is a large number to lose, but the future projections are even worse.

According to the report, “demographic projections from the state suggest steeper declines of 12% over the next decade.” Furthermore, the news became even more dismal when the Public Policy Institute looked at specific regions or districts.

“Enrollment has declined in nearly all regions over the past decade, and most are expected to see larger declines over the next ten years,” the report states. In the past, 64% of California counties experienced a decrease in student K12 enrollment.

Prior to this recent report, the California Department of Finance initially projected an increase in dis-enrollment to spread over 69% of California counties. However, according to the report, “declines are expected to be larger in more populous counties.”

The Greater Los Angeles area has been hit the hardest. This region has “experienced a 15.5% enrollment decline over the past decade—the largest of any region. Projections indicate an even larger loss of 19.2% from 2023 to 2033.”

The Sierra region “experienced the second-largest regional decline at 9.5%,” while the Bay Area region “has seen a decline of 8.2%, third-largest among regions.”

The forecast speaks of a worsening tale for the Bay Area: “Projections indicate a decline of 14% by 2033—slightly above the statewide projection of 12%.”

While San Diego has only seen a small increase in dis-enrollment at 4.7% since 2013, the projections here are equally dismal. The “trend is expected to worsen significantly, with declines of around 15.1% by 2033, the second-highest projected decline among regions.”

The obvious question is, “Why the current and continued projected decline in enrollment?”

The answer is equally obvious. Parents want something more for their children. Parents want their students to be educated in truth, goodness, and beauty. In short, they don’t want a Marxist, progressive education for their children.

We will continue to see these types of numbers throughout the country as parents flee public education for a more traditional, classical education rich in American history and values.

The global economy relies heavily on the banking sector, which is currently facing significant challenges. Recent events have sent shockwaves in financial markets and raised doubts about the stability of our banking system. Statements by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen have sparked much debate and concern, especially regarding the security of bank assets and the role of FDIC insurance, and the sudden expansion of coverage has left many people questioning the true state of our financial institutions.

Pollster Nate Silver, the founder of ABC’s FiveThirtyEight, called for President Biden to withdraw from the 2024 White House race after making “incoherent comments” in his first postdebate interview Friday. Earlier Friday, Silver wrote a column about whether a model could appropriately determine Biden’s chances of winning the election, as voters remain skeptical of his abilities more than a week after his poor debate performance. Silver, who viewed Biden’s interview with ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos before it was aired publicly Friday evening, posted to social platform X with a change of tune.

Axios has reported that the House Democrat leadership is rallying its forces against a Republican bill due for a vote next week.

The bill in question, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act), seeks to mandate proof of U.S. citizenship for voting in federal elections.

Stephen Miller, Senior Advisor to President Trump and Founder of America First Legal, expressed his disbelief on X, writing, “Read the below. Then read it again. A major DC establishment publication says that House Democrats are “bringing out the big guns,” to get illegal aliens to vote in 2024. How can any American support a party that wants to flood the ballot box with illegals?”

Webmaster addition: In the United States, federal law prohibits non-citizens from voting in federal elections. The U.S. Code, Title 18, Section 611, makes it a crime for non-citizens to vote in federal elections, and violations can result in fines, imprisonment, or deportation.

Caitlin Clark has become the first rookie in the history of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) to record a triple-double. Clark achieved this remarkable feat during a game against the New York Liberty, leading her team to an 83-78 victory.

Clark racked up an impressive stat line of 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists — a feat no other rookie in the league’s history has accomplished. Her all-around contribution was instrumental in securing the win for the Fever.

But Clark’s historic achievement didn’t stop there. In the process of leading her team to victory, she outplayed two senior players who have been selected for the upcoming Olympics — Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty.

MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell thinks he has a solution to Joe Biden’s debate problems. Just allow Biden’s staff to be on stage with him during the debates.

To be clear, O’Donnell suggests that this is something that all candidates should do, even Trump, presumably. But we all know that O’Donnell is only saying this now because he thinks that Biden is the one who needs the help of other people to get through a debate.

It’s amazing that this is the sort of analysis that MSNBC viewers get on a regular basis.

As the 2024 election campaign heats up, President Joe Biden isn’t being helped much by having Vice President Kamala Harris as his running mate.

That’s according to Rasmussen Reports.

A recent survey found that 41% of likely voters said they have a favorable impression of Harris, including 21% who said they have a “very favorable” opinion of the vice president. That’s slightly worse than last August, when 42% said they had a favorable opinion of Harris.

Fifty-six percent (56%) of voters now say they view the vice president unfavorably, including 43% who say they have a “very unfavorable” impression of her.

Just 25% say they believe that, as a vice presidential running mate, Harris helps Biden’s chances of getting reelected.

The 1993 NVRA law (National Voter Registration Act) bars election officials from removing any voters from the rolls within 90 days of an election (see page 8 below). This is often referred to as the “90 Day Freeze”.

The Democrat-run DOJ Civil Rights Division (CRD) has used this part of the law relentlessly over the years to defend dirty voter rolls and thwart any cleanup prior to elections.

Democrats support this law, knowing it allows fraudulent registrations to stay on the voter rolls.

Tech giants and beyond are set to spend over $1tn on AI capex in coming years, with so far little to show for it. So, will this large spend ever pay off? MIT’s Daron Acemoglu and GS’ Jim Covello are skeptical, with Acemoglu seeing only limited US economic upside from AI over the next decade and Covello arguing that the technology isn’t designed to solve the complex problems that would justify the costs, which may not decline as many expect.

The last many weeks (or even months) of Ukraine coverage by mainstream media has seen a major shift. One might observe that Western reporters are actually starting to do their jobs for a change, and digging into to 'inconvenient' truths and stories which a year ago no outlet would have touched amid the general pro-Kyiv euphoria.

A military correspondent with The New York Times has issued the newest bombshell report this weekend which shines a spotlight on not just Ukrainian troops but American and foreign fighters who've volunteered with pro-Kyiv forces and have committed potential war crimes. The report, titled Killings of Surrendering Russians Divide an American-Led Unit, reveals how US troops are participating in units which conduct extra-judicial killings of Russians who have legitimately surrendered.

Much of the eyewitness accounts come from a German volunteer identified as Caspar Grosse, a medic in an all-foreign unit led by an American who says he witnessed clear war crimes and that his conscience has forced him to speak out.

In 2023, Belarus had a population of 9.5 million and a GDP of 71.8 billion in current U.S. dollars, according to estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau and the International Monetary Fund.

As Statista's Florian Zandt shows in the chart below, based on data from the aforementioned sources, Eurostat and the World Bank shows, its accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) led by China and Russia might help the organization close its ranks in a geopolitical sense. Its monetary contribution, however, is rather minimal in comparison.
