Its back door is another matter. So those hard-eyed folks in Washington, obsessed with the Wolfowitz Doctrine, need to eliminate or take over Russia. That is the sine qua non of the American strategy. Without this step, the strategy falls apart.

And the step needs to be taken quickly; already the confrontation with China is picking up momentum.

I would imagine that foreign-policy blobbers long ago convinced themselves that they would really, actually, in their heart-of-hearts prefer to do things this way. Because the other way is not nice.

Former socialite Ghislaine Maxwell is speaking in an interview for the first time since her 2021 sex trafficking conviction.

The British-born heiress disclosed new details on her involvement with Jeffrey Epstein in a Monday interview with news channel TalkTV — in which she answered questions from her own brother, Kevin Maxwell.

Maxwell expressed her belief that Epstein had been murdered in federal jail in the interview.

A Belgian family wanted to offer their house to a refugee family displaced by the war in Ukraine, but instead has lived through a nightmare.

According to the Belgium news website Ninofmedia Sven De Strijcker and Evy De Koninck of Ninove began with the best of intentions.

“We had offered a place for a woman with two children. We were assigned a family in June 2022. When we went to pick them up at the OCMW in Ninove, it turned out to be a pregnant woman, her husband and three children. That was the first problem, but not insurmountable,” De Strijcker said, using the acronym for Belgium’s Public Center for Social Welfare.

According to the website 7sur7, the family was not among the refugees from cosmopolitan urban centers such as Kyiv.

“We quickly noticed that this was no ordinary Ukrainian family. Two weeks later, the CPAS told us that they were Roma gypsies,” De Strijcker said.

The result was that the refugee family did not know how to use modern conveniences, such as a washing machine, dryer, or oven.  The mother of the children was washing clothes in the tub.

Within a few weeks, the house — in which the couple was no longer living — had been transformed.

“Mildew appeared all over the windows, the walls were covered with inscriptions, the wood was torn from the frame of the bed, the doors and cabinets were damaged,” De Strijcker said.

A Walmart worker was caught on camera being bashed about the head after two would-be thieves tried to walk out of the store pushing a couple of shopping carts filled to the brim.

In a short clip posted to TikTok, two brazen shoplifters were caught on cellphone footage pushing their fully loaded carts toward the exit of the store.

Suddenly a heroic shop worker places themselves in between both carts and attempts to stop them from leaving.

Elizabeth Holmes, the disgraced former CEO of Theranos, was caught trying to flee the country after she was sentenced for her fraud-related crimes connected to the collapse of Theranos.

She was convicted on four counts of wire fraud in January 2022 and was sentenced to 11 years in November 2022.

The Daily Wire reports that federal prosecutors revealed that Holmes attempted to book an international flight to Mexico in January 2022. Prosecutors revealed that the ticket was booked for a one-way trip with no return flight. It was only canceled after it was revealed to the defense council. In other words, Holmes appeared to be poised to take the trip to Mexico until it was canceled.

The document that federal prosecutors put out said the following: “The government anticipates Defendant will note in reply that she did not, in fact leave the country as scheduled,” and “but it is difficult to know with certainty what Defendant would have done had the government not intervened.”

Department of Justice officials have found even more classified documents at President Joe Biden’s Delaware home.

One of Biden’s lawyers stated that the DOJ found another six classified documents at the estate.

The Blaze News reports that the DOJ conducted a 12-hour search of the Biden home in Delaware on Friday.

Bob Bauer, a personal lawyer for Biden, made a statement about the search and said:

“DOJ requested that the search not be made public in advance, in accordance with its standard procedures, and we agreed to cooperate.”

He continued by saying: “DOJ had full access to the President’s home, including personally handwritten notes, files, papers, binders, memorabilia, to-do lists, schedules, and reminders going back decades.”

An 11th victim died on Monday from injuries suffered in a weekend shooting rampage at a Los Angeles-area dance hall, as investigators searched for a motive behind one of California’s bloodiest shootings.

Police identified Huu Can Tran, 72 as the lone suspect in a shooting that unfolded Saturday night in the midst of a Lunar New Year celebration Monterey Park, just east of Los Angeles. He drove to another dance hall where a second attack was thwarted, and later killed himself as police closed in to make an arrest hours after the shooting.

Authorities said 10 people were killed and 10 wounded when Tran opened fire at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio, a venue popular with older patrons of Asian descent. One of the victims hospitalized in critical condition died of his wounds on Monday, Monterey Park Police Chief Scott Wiese told reporters.

All of the deceased were between the ages of 50 and 80.

During her January 2 inaugural address, thrice-elected DC Mayor Muriel Bowser told Joe Biden that he needed to either bring his administration's remote workers back to their offices downtown or give up the space used by the White House over to Bowser so she could convert it into living quarters.

Fox News reports Bowser said, "The federal government represents one-quarter of DCs pre-pandemic jobs, and owns or leases one-third of our office. We need decisive action by the White House to either get most federal workers back to the office most of the time or to realign their vast property holdings for use by the local government, by non-profits, by businesses and by any user willing to revitalize it."

In March of last year, Granholm said at a conference in Houston that it's "same old DC BS" when critics say the Biden administration’s actions and policies have caused the rising gas prices in the US.

Granholm that summer would blame Russian President Vladimir Putin for rising gas prices in the US. During a May 2022 Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, Senator Josh Hawley asked Granholm about the rising gas prices, and asked what the Biden administration plans to do to lower costs for consumers.

"I'm sure you've seen the reporting this morning," Sen. Hawley said, "that now AAA is projecting that gas prices will hit a national average of $6 a gallon by the month of August. Is this acceptable to you?"

"No, it is not," Sec. Granholm answered, "and you can thank the activity of Vladimir Putin for invading Ukraine and pulling us–.

"Oh nonsense," Sen. Hawley interjected. "With all due respect, Madam Secretary, that's utter nonsense."

The White House echoed Granholm's stance in November of last year during a press conference. Fox News' Peter Doocy said to Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre, "You've said the president was responsible for gas prices coming down. Is the President responsible for gas prices going up?".

President Biden will veto a House Republican bill that would restrict the release of oil from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) emergency reserve, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said on Monday.

“If Congress were to pass H.R. 21, the president would veto it. He will not allow the American people to suffer because of the backward agenda that House Republicans are advancing,” Granholm told reporters during a White House press briefing.

House Republicans, led by Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.), introduced the legislation, known as the Strategic Production Response Act or HR21, earlier this month.

The bill would require the Biden administration to develop a plan to boost the percentage of federal lands leased for oil and gas production if it wants to release oil from the SPR. 

Senior Ukrainian officials have quit after Volodymyr Zelensky announced a crackdown on corruption and pledged to launch a staff shake-up at the highest level. 

The deputy head of Ukraine's presidential office Kyrylo Tymoshenko asked to be relieved of his duties, according to an online copy of a decree signed by Zelensky and Tymoshenko's own social media posts.

Neither gave a reason for the resignation.

California lawmakers are pushing legislation that would impose a new tax on the state's wealthiest residents — even if they've already moved to another part of the country.

Assemblyman Alex Lee, a progressive Democrat, last week introduced a bill in the California State Legislature that would impose an extra annual 1.5% tax on those with a "worldwide net worth" above $1 billion, starting as early as January 2024.

As early as 2026, the threshold for being taxed would drop: those with a worldwide net worth exceeding $50 million would be hit with a 1% annual tax on wealth, while billionaires would still be taxed 1.5%.

Worldwide wealth extends beyond annual income to include diverse holdings such as farm assets, arts and other collectibles, and stocks and hedge fund interest.

 A jury on Monday convicted four members of the Oath Keepers of seditious conspiracy in the second batch of guilty verdicts related to the extremist group's efforts to block the certification of the 2020 presidential election.

In addition to the seldom-used charge of seditious conspiracy, the four — Roberto Minuta, Joseph Hackett, David Moerschel and Edward Vallejo — were convicted of obstruction of an official proceeding and conspiring to obstruct.

U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta ordered the four to be placed under 24-hour house arrest with limited exceptions and limitations on internet usage until they are sentenced, “notwithstanding the nature of these charges, which are undoubtedly serious.”

Moerschel's attorney, Scott Weinberg, told reporters that "we're pretty disappointed with the verdict" and that they plan to appeal.

An exotic green comet that has not passed Earth since the time of the Neanderthals has reappeared in the sky ready for its closest approach to the planet next week.

Discovered last March by astronomers at the Zwicky Transient Facility at the Palomar Observatory in California, comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) was calculated to orbit the sun every 50,000 years, meaning it last tore past our home planet in the stone age.
