Pfizer, Inc., the largest pharmaceutical corporation in the world marketing drugs and vaccines, has agreed to pay between $200 to $250 million to settle more than 10,000 lawsuits filed in the United States related to cancer risks associated with its over-the-counter heartburn drug Zantac (also known as ranitidine).

The acid reflux drug was discontinued in U.S. in 2020 after a cancer-causing substance known as N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) was found in samples.

The French pharmaceutical company Sanofi SA acquired Zantac in 2017. Prior to that, Pfizer and other companies, such as the UK’s GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), owned rights to market the anti-acid drug.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) licensed Zantac in 1983 and by 1988 it had become the world’s best selling drug.

After NDMA was found in samples of Zantac, in 2020 the FDA asked drugmakers to pull Zantac and its generic versions off the market.

Thousands of veterans suffer from TBIs during their service, but trying to get an official diagnosis for them is a struggle.

It means veterans cannot get full benefits - even if they suffer symptoms such as headaches, insomnia, confusion, frayed memory, bad balance, racing hearts, paranoia, depression and random eruptions of rage or tears.

Ranstad’s story and his interactions with Sean before his tragic death are a painful reminder of the shortfalls of veteran care across the United States.

It is an issue he says has been overlooked for too long, a sentiment thousands like him agree with.

Most of this speech was devoted to recalling the achievements of Ebrahim Raissi and Prime Minister Amir Abdollahian, and to reaffirming Iran’s stability and its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the Axis of Resistance, at both institutional and grassroots level. Iranians’ attachment to the Islamic Republic was demonstrated by the scale of the state funeral, attended by millions of people: along with the funeral of martyr Qassem Soleimani in 2020 and Ayatollah Khomeini’s in 1989, it was one of the largest funeral in human history. We are only translating the last part of the speech, devoted to the situation in Gaza.

There has been an unprecedented effort to destroy Donald Trump rather than defeat him at the polls. Those concerned about democracy being in danger need only look at the list of efforts to destroy him which began before his first election, continued with gusto and anger during his term, and the lawfare episodes which followed Trump’s departure from office.

All of this is unprecedented in American politics (albeit all too common in third-world politics) and itself threatening. Trump almost seems to grow stronger with controversy, but what “normal” candidate would want to run for president knowing they would be exposed to such efforts not just to beat them with votes but to crush them as human beings? With apologies to Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” let’s take a look back. In no particular order:

US expected to lift ban on sale of offensive weapons to Saudi Arabia, FT reports

(Reuters) - The United States is expected to lift a ban on the sale of offensive weapons to Saudi Arabia, potentially in the coming weeks, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.

Washington has already signaled to Saudi Arabia that it was prepared to lift the ban, the newspaper reported, citing a person familiar with the matter.

Soon after taking office in 2021, Biden adopted a tougher stance over Saudi Arabia's campaign against the Iran-aligned Houthis in Yemen, which has inflicted heavy civilian casualties, and over Riyadh's human rights record, in particular the 2018 killing of Washington Post journalist and political opponent Jamal Khashoggi.

Saudi Arabia, the biggest U.S. arms customer, has chafed under those restrictions, which froze the kind of weapons sales that previous U.S. administrations had provided for decades.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday said the U.S. and Saudi Arabia were very close to concluding a set of agreements on nuclear energy, security and defense cooperation, the bilateral component of a wider normalisation deal with Riyadh and Israel.

However, lifting the ban on offensive weapons sales were not directly linked to these talks, FT said.

The White House and Saudi Arabia’s government communication office did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Claire's Observations:  Against whom, please, does the Saudi military intend to use these weapons?!?  Because once they are in Saudi hands, there is no accounting for their use, other than what the Saudi government tells the US.  One has to speculate as to what that target (or targets) will be.

Less than two weeks ago Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico nearly lost his life in a multiple gunshot, failed assassination attempt. He strongly opposes the Ukraine war, is a friend to Russia, launched an investigation into Pfizer and its criminal influence over Slovakia’s previous administration, further blaming the lethal non-vaccines for killing over 21,000 Slovakians. Four days later the Iran President Ebrahim Raisi, his foreign minister and other high officials died suspiciously in a questionable helicopter accident, shrouded in anomalies suggesting foul play by archrival Israel, with a known extended history of assassinating Iranian leaders atop its military, its nuclear development and its national government.

Just this last weekend, a crucial Russian air defense early radar warning system in the Krasnodar region of southwestern Russia, capable of detecting all cruise and ballistic missiles launched from the south and southwest up to 6,000 km (3,730 miles) away includes detected projectiles fired from anywhere in the Middle East – including Israel, [NATO] Turkey or US nuclear submarines parked in the eastern Mediterranean or Red Sea. This poses a most serious nuclear threat to not just Russia, but well-being of the entire world.

It effectively renders Russia highly vulnerable to a nuclear first strike against both Russia’s population centers and its nuclear silos. The US changed its nuclear deterrence policy under Biden and with US first strike capability now on the table, and undetected now by Moscow, this may be the advantage that the globalists look to seize upon. And if and when Russia determines that Ukraine used the US made ATACM missiles to destroy this critical Russian radar warning system, all hell could break loose… not unlike if and when Iran ascertains that the US/Israel took out its leader. We have never been so close to self-annihilation ever in recorded history.

Once again, The Federalist is doing a good job documenting election fraud.

As Fox News reported, U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., wrote a full-throated defense of “Alien Suffrage” in a 1993 paper for the American University Washington College of Law, where he serves as Professor of Law Emeritus. Raskin is ranking member of the House’s Oversight Committee, which, among other things, has constitutional oversight of the District of Columbia.

“In this Article, I will argue that the current blanket exclusion of noncitizens from the ballot is neither constitutionally required nor historically normal,” Raskin wrote. “Moreover, the disenfranchisement of aliens at the local level is vulnerable to deep theoretical objections since resident aliens—who are governed, taxed, and often drafted just like citizens—have a strong democratic claim to being considered members, indeed citizens, of their local communities.”

Yes, Democrats Want Aliens To Vote In U.S. Elections. Take Jamie Raskin’s Word For It, by M.D. Kittle, May 24, 2024

Under the theory that people will write down what their intentions are beforehand, it’s no surprise that the Democrats and their media allies are conspiring to get aliens (legal or not) to vote. Raskin is making it plain.

Webmaster addition: Attention illegal immigrants. Once the election is over, even if Biden does steal it, the free goodies will stop.

As the world forms the consensus that Israel is carrying out genocide in Gaza, and everything must be done to save civilians, the same understanding is reflected in the Democratic Party. By 56 to 22 percent Democrats believe Israel is committing genocide.

But the tragedy – and open scandal — is that if a Democratic pol utters the word genocide, they will be ostracized by the leadership and pushed out by the donors. Just like the prohibition on stating another truth — Israel practices apartheid.

“What’s happening is not genocide. We reject that,” Joe Biden declared this week in a speech to the Jewish community.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib called the president out at the People’s Conference for Palestine in Detroit. “Biden says what’s happening in Gaza isn’t a genocide. Where is your red line, President Biden?” she said yesterday (Michael Arria reports).

On Friday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg joined calls for Ukraine to be able to use NATO-provided weapons to strike Russian territory, a step that would mark a major escalation in the proxy war.

“The time has come for allies to consider whether they should lift some of the restrictions they have put on the use of weapons they have donated to Ukraine,” Stoltenberg told The Economist.

“Especially now when a lot of the fighting is going on in Kharkiv, close to the border, to deny Ukraine the possibility of using these weapons against legitimate military targets on Russian territory makes it very hard for them to defend themselves,” he added.

Russian electronic warfare has rendered some US-made precision-guided weapons ineffective on the battlefield in Ukraine, causing Ukrainian forces to stop using certain munitions altogether, The New York Times reported on Saturday.

One weapon that Ukrainian forces stopped using due to Russian jamming was the Excalibur GPS-guided artillery shells. According to an internal Ukrainian military report, the Excalibur shells were very successful at hitting targets when the US first sent them in 2022, but the success rate dropped as low as about 5% as its GPS system is very susceptible to Russian electronic warfare.

The Washington Post reported that Ukraine reported the problem to the US and that Washington responded by ending the supply of Excalibur shells to Ukraine. Several other US weapons suffered a similar fate on the battlefield in Ukraine, with success at first and failure once Russia adapted.

When the US first sent the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) to Ukraine in 2022, it was touted as a game changer in the war. The HIMARS were armed with GPS-guided missiles with a range of 50 miles, and by the second year of their use in Ukraine, a Ukrainian official said, “Everything ended: the Russians deployed electronic warfare, disabled satellite signals, and HIMARS became completely ineffective.”

U.S. leaders once understood and accepted that strong powers would insist on a security zone and broad sphere of influence in their immediate geographic region. An especially persistent feature of international affairs has been the existence of spheres of influence. Major powers routinely seek to shape the international system to their advantage and exclude, or at least sharply limit, the influence of potential rivals. Both incumbent dominant players and rising powers are prone to engage in such behavior. Unfortunately, U.S. leaders have forgotten what they once understood. And until they relearn it, the world will be a more chaotic, and more dangerous, place than it needs to be.

The United States embraced the sphere of influence standard even before it had the power to enforce such a role effectively in its own region. That broader ambition became clear with the proclamation of the Monroe Doctrine in 1823. Washington still lacked either the economic clout or the military capabilities to enforce its claim to pre-eminence in the Western Hemisphere. If Great Britain’s regional policy objectives had not generally aligned with Washington’s, the Monroe Doctrine would have been little more than a hollow boast for several decades. When a major European power (France) took advantage of the U.S. Civil War to set up a client regime in Mexico, there was little the United States could do about it. Only when America’s own conflict ended were U.S. leaders able to end the French intrusion. And it was not until the 1890’s that Washington could assert a role as the hemisphere’s hegemon.

As Russian forces are capturing more territory in eastern Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin is willing to end the war across the current frontlines, according to Reuters. Ukrainian officials rejected the offer.

Four sources speaking with Reuters said that Putin was prepared to freeze war along the current frontlines but was willing to keep fighting if Ukraine and its Western backers rejected the offer for negotiations. “Putin can fight for as long as it takes, but Putin is also ready for a ceasefire – to freeze the war,” one source said, describing Putin’s position.

When asked by Reuters about talks, Putin responded, “Let them resume.”

The suspect, identified as Edan On, 18, was taken into custody on Thursday in the city of Beverly Hills and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, the UCLA Police Department said in a statement on Friday.

The man, who police said had no affiliation with UCLA, was reported by local media to be a Beverly Hills High School student.

Israel has not only completely disregarded the orders of the International Court of Justice to cease its assault on Rafah as we expected it to do, but has actually ramped up its ruthlessness as though trying to make a point. There were reportedly more than 60 Israeli airstrikes on the southernmost city in the Gaza strip in the 48 hours after the ICJ ruling, including a horrifying massacre on a displacement camp full of civilians in tents.

The ABC reports:

Israeli air strikes have killed at least 35 Palestinians and wounded dozens in an area in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah designated for the displaced, Palestinian health and civil emergency service officials said.

Gaza’s Health Ministry said women and children made up most of the dead and dozens of wounded.

The strike took place in Tel Al-Sultan neighbourhood in western Rafah on Sunday, local time, where thousands of people were taking shelter after many fled the eastern areas of the city where Israeli forces began a ground offensive over two weeks ago.

Claire's Observations:  Israel knows precisely where these camps for Displaced Palestinians are, because they demand the GPS coordinates for any and all displaced Palestinians' camps; it makes the slaughter of innocent Palestinian women and children so much easier.

State officials are increasingly targeting public mask-wearing in new legislation and prosecutions in an attempt to crack down on pro-Palestinian campus protests.

Why it matters: Wearing a mask can help protesters evade facial recognition cameras that police and campus officials use to identify participants in a campus demonstration.

  • Campus protesters are facing ramifications beyond possible arrest: Some faculty members have been fired and students face suspensions.

State of play: A handful of states are pursuing new legislation to ban public mask-wearing in most situations. Others are reviving old laws that they hadn't enforced in years to target protesters, experts say.

Webmaster addition: First they tell us we must wear masks and now they are saying masks are forbidden.

  • Meeting discussed the urgent need to end the war in Gaza and take the necessary steps to implement a two-state solution

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and Norway hosted a meeting on a coordinated approach to the recognition of Palestine in Brussels on Sunday.

The meeting discussed the urgent need to end the war in Gaza and take the necessary steps to implement a two-state solution, Saudi Press Agency reported.

It was attended by ministers and representatives of Algeria, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Denmark, Egypt, Germany, Indonesia, Ireland, Jordan, Latvia, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Palestine, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkiye, the UAE, the UK, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The meeting is a continuation of a previous one on the same subject hosted by Riyadh on April 29 for Arab and European ministers.

The conference expressed support for efforts aimed at reaching an immediate ceasefire, releasing prisoners and hostages, ending the war in the Gaza Strip and all illegal unilateral measures and violations in the occupied Palestinian territories including controlling the Rafah crossing, and addressing the catastrophic humanitarian crisis.

Concrete steps toward establishing a Palestinian state in the context of the two-state solution, and adopting a political path that supports a sustainable solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict were also topics of discussion.

The meeting stressed the importance of the international community’s recognition of the Palestinian state in order to adopt a comprehensive approach toward a reliable and irreversible path to implementing the two-state solution in accordance with international law and agreed standards, including UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Claire's Observations:  I am delighted to see Saudi Arabia acting like an "adult in the room" on this issue; that is nothing short of wonderful!    And seriously, seeing people working together to right an historic wrong?!? Alleluia!!!!

Again, my concerns are about the new Palestinian state becoming a rigid theocracy, ruled by Ayatollahs' "Fatwas" still remains for me.

The Israeli army has been abducting injured Palestinian civilians from hospitals in Gaza and transporting them to a detention camp in the Negev, where they are shackled to beds and undergo major surgeries, often without painkillers, the Guardian reported on 24 May.

A whistleblower from the Sde Teiman detention camp told the Guardian some patients had come from hospitals in Gaza after being abducted by Israeli forces. “These were patients who had been captured by the Israeli army while being treated in Gaza hospitals and brought here. They had limbs and infected wounds. They were moaning in pain,” the source said.

The source described how the field hospital in the detention camp consisted of tents, including an emergency room where patients underwent surgery on a stretcher as there was no operating table.

The patients were handcuffed to the beds, made to wear diapers, and blindfolded.

In one case, a detainee’s hand had been amputated “because the wrists had become gangrenous due to handcuffing wounds.”

A second whistleblower who spoke with the Guardian said, “There were about 15 patients in total, they were all handcuffed and blindfolded. They were naked, wearing diapers and were covered by blankets. Most of them appeared to have obvious war injuries; some had undergone amputations, and others underwent major abdominal or chest surgery. They were practically naked except for a diaper.”

President Joe Biden’s administration has begun stockpiling mRNA vaccines in preparation for a bird flu pandemic to be unleashed ahead of the November presidential election.

Scientists have just announced that they have developed an experimental vaccine that will soon be rolled out as part of a mass vaccination campaign.

These new vaccines were not designed for birds and other animals, where the current strain of bird flu is spreading, however.

The mRNA injections are for use in humans, or more specifically, the general public.

Even though this strain of bird flu has not even been transmitted from human to human, there is already a new supply of H5N1 vaccines and other mRNA bird flu vaccines in the works.

These vaccines introduce a genetically-specific antigen from the most recent strain of influenza A virus sub-type H5N1.

According to the traditional definition of vaccine science, this antigen is intended to activate human immune cells and spur long-term immune memory of the target antigen — potentially protecting the individual when they are exposed to the specific strain later on.

But how do the vaccine companies know that this specific strain is going to be responsible for a pandemic flu?

A San Diego federal judge on Tuesday blasted the U.S. Attorney’s Office for its “significant misconduct” in the prosecution of the U.S. Navy’s “Fat Leonard” bribery and corruption scandal, saying the continued crumbling of the case is an “embarrassment to the government.”

U.S. District Judge Janis Sammartino said during a hearing in her San Diego courtroom that prosecutorial “misconduct started (the) unraveling of this case.” She called it an “extremely unfortunate” situation that was “all the government’s making.”

Sammartino made the comments during a hearing in which she agreed — reluctantly — to throw out a previous guilty plea by former Navy Cmdr. Stephen Shedd and dismissed all charges against him. She also dismissed felony pleas by three other former Navy officers and a retired Marine colonel and allowed the four men to each plead guilty to a single misdemeanor.

In a similar move last year as the result of the same government misconduct, the judge tossed out the jury convictions of four Navy officers who had been found guilty at trial and allowed them to plead guilty to misdemeanor counts.

Johnny Wactor – the former star of the popular soap opera "General Hospital" – is dead at 37 after being fatally shot in downtown Los Angeles during an alleged catalytic converter theft, according to multiple reports.

Wactor's mother, Scarlett Wactor, told TMZ that her son and one of his coworkers noticed "three men messing with Johnny's car" in downtown Los Angeles early Saturday morning.

The mother said that Wactor "didn't try to fight or stop them," but the "men shot him anyway before taking off."

The Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded to a 911 call around 3:25 a.m. PT on Saturday, and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Recently I was watching a short documentary about the history of political discourse and division in the US and it got me thinking about how the internal conflicts of the past might relate to the rampant social battles Americans are dealing with today.

From early disagreements between various Founding Fathers on hot button issues like the Sedition Act, central banking and standing armies, to epic and disastrous conflagrations like the Civil War, America has never been “of one mind” on everything.

Overall, though, the longstanding assumption is that even when we slip and fall into disarray Americans will find common ground and move on towards the future together.  It’s a nice sentiment, but what if this ideal no longer applies?

There are some people that argue there was never a golden era for the US; that we’ve always been destructive, or exploitative or “imperialist.” Of course, it’s very easy to examine any given time period through the lens of modern sensibilities and pass judgment. How we would do things today is not necessarily how we would do things yesterday. We can’t easily condemn the men and women of the past without at least recognizing that we will probably never see the issues of their day from their perspective.

Yesterday, as the Ukrainian regime fired a wave of US-supplied, long-range ATACMS missiles at Russian forces in Crimea, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg called for a vast escalation of the war, in which Ukraine would use NATO missiles to bomb Russia.

NATO’s escalation, in response to the accelerating collapse of the Ukrainian armed forces, is rapidly exposing its own lies about the war. As Stoltenberg made his remarks to The Economist, Reuters was publishing a collection of interviews with top associates of Russian President Vladimir Putin, appealing to the NATO powers for a cease-fire and warning of the danger of nuclear war. It is not Moscow, but the NATO powers led by Washington that are driving the war, threatening the rapid outbreak of total war in Europe and worldwide.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz has decided to bar the Spanish consulate in Jerusalem from providing services to Palestinians in the occupied West Bank in response to Madrid’s decision to recognize Palestine as a state.

“I have decided to sever the connection between the Spanish mission to Israel and the Palestinians, and to prohibit the Spanish consulate in Jerusalem from providing services to Palestinians from the West Bank,” Katz said in a statement on 24 May.

Norway, Ireland, and Spain announced on 22 May that they will formally recognize Palestine as a state next week.

The Israeli decision is a response to the announcement and to comments made by a Spanish minister on 23 May.

Katz said on Friday that if “this ignorant hate-filled person wants to truly understand what radical Islam wants, she should learn about the 700 years of Islamic rule in Al-Andalus – modern-day Spain,” in reference to Spain’s Labor and Economy Minister Yolanda Diaz, who said in a speech a day earlier that “Palestine will be free from the river to the sea.”

Following the decision to recognize Palestinian statehood, Tel Aviv immediately recalled its ambassadors to Ireland and Norway and pledged to recall its envoy to Spain. The foreign ministry also summoned the ambassadors from the three European nations to “reprimand” them

Claire's Observations:  Katz is attempting to put out a "5 Alarm Fire" with a water pistol of "reprimand", and it is absolutely not working.   This should have happened right after the Balfour Declaration was signed, and it would have avoided much bloodshed had it happened then.

But a Palestinian government, in the 21st century, has to be a poster child for basic human rights; the rights of women; education of its children; and a governance which acts in peace and good faith with all the governments around it,  including that  of Israel.

And folks, if Mandela's South African could do it, after all the pain and suffering indigenous South Africa suffered under the apartheid regime, so, potentially, can the Palestinians, if there is a will to do it.

What concerns me greatly, however, is the potential for a viable Palestine, becoming an arch-conservative  theocracy, as  Iran (and Israel) has done, with an anciently  rigid code of behaviour, and spikes coming out against all of its neighbors, including Israel.

That, for me, is a worst-case scenario for an independent Palestine, and I pray that this does not happen, in the new Palestinian state.

That Gen Z Americans have unique foreign policy views isn’t news, but the recent student-led protests over the Israel-Hamas war has highlighted the generational differences in this country and may portend a future political distancing of the U.S. from its long-time client in Tel Aviv.

Some of the indicators may be concerning. Aside from displaying more support for ceasefire than their older cohorts, a majority of 18-24 year-olds in a December Harvard/Harris poll — 67% — said they believe Jews “as a class” are oppressors, and that the 10/7 attack was justified by Palestinians’ grievances (60%). But then, the poll also found 78% of Americans aged 18-34 believe Israel has a right to exist. The majority of this cohort also called what Hamas did on Oct. 7 terrorism and said anti-Semitism is on the rise on college campuses.

Over 25,000 NGOs are active in Georgia, and most rely on funding from Europe and the US. A new bill aiming to reign in Western meddling has sparked furious anti-government protests explicitly encouraged by Washington.

A dark political atmosphere is swirling over the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, and grows more ominous by the day. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has been told by an EU commissioner he will suffer the fate of Robert Fico, the Slovakian leader still fighting for his life after an assassination attempt by a Ukraine proxy war ultra. US lawmakers are moving to sanction members of the ruling Georgian Dream party, and in parliament on May 14, opposition MP Tako Charkviani threatened: “Believe me, there will be a color revolution in Georgia.”

The cause of this tumult is a bill known as the “foreign influence transparency” law which would compel organizations to publicly disclose their foreign funding. For weeks, the streets of Tbilisi have been filled with tens of thousands of protesters who are demanding that authorities dump the law, which they believe will compromise Georgia’s path to EU membership. Despite vehement condemnation from EU and US officials, the bill has now passed. The US has since threatened to impose visa restrictions on legislators who supported the legislation, and protesters show no sign of giving up.
