The Impossible Burger is a plant-based burger, the key ingredient of which is a protein called soy leghemoglobin (SLH for short), derived from genetically modified (GM) yeast. It’s already being sold in restaurants and supermarkets in the U.S.
In 2019 the manufacturing company, Impossible Foods, applied for permission to market the burger in the EU and the U.K.
However, the results of a rat feeding study commissioned by Impossible Foods and carried out with SLH suggest that the burger may not be safe to eat.
SLH is the substance that gives the burger its meaty taste and makes it appear to bleed like meat when cut. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) initially refused to sign off on the safety of SLH when first approached by the company.
The rat-feeding study results suggest that the agency’s concerns were justified. Rats fed the GM yeast-derived SLH developed unexplained changes in weight gain, changes in the blood that can indicate the onset of inflammation or kidney disease, and possible signs of anemia.
The world’s second-largest fresh produce market caught fire in Paris on Saturday, blanketing the French capital in a dense cloud of smoke visible from kilometers away.
The fire, which originated in the Rungis International Market’s 7,000-square meter warehouse, broke out around midday. The inferno spewed a dense cloud of smoke into the sky, which could be seen creeping several kilometers over the center of the city.

A pro-life activist and author had his home raided by as many as 30 FBI agents with guns drawn, according to his wife. The sidewalk counselor and father of seven now faces up to 11 years in federal prison for allegedly pushing a man to the ground outside of an abortion clinic in Pennsylvania nearly a year ago. The pro-abortion man allegedly harassed the Christian man's young son.
Democratic Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri claimed that Democratic Party is "pro-human rights" — the lawmaker ironically made the claim while advertising a series of events dubbed the "Roe the Vote: Reproductive Freedom Tour."
Democrats plan to “dump” President Biden and call on Hillary Clinton to run for a third time in 2024 out of fear that a more radical left-wing candidate could end up on the ticket, veteran political consultant Dick Morris said in a new interview.
The longtime Bill Clinton adviser made the prediction on John Catsimatidis’ WABC radio show “Cats Roundtable” Sunday morning amid renewed speculation that 79-year-old Biden will not seek a second term.
Dems “are planning to dump Biden,” said the self-proclaimed “secret adviser” to former President Donald Trump, adding that Clinton would be the party’s nominee if no other centrist candidate emerged.

A well-known pro-life author, sidewalk counselor, and father of seven was the latest victim of a U.S. Department of Justice-sponsored SWAT raid and arrest — for supposed “FACE Act” violations — at his rural home as his children looked on “screaming.”
According to his wife Ryan-Marie, who spoke with LifeSiteNews, he also drives two hours south to Philadelphia every Wednesday to sidewalk counsel for six to eight hours at two different abortion centers.
Ryan-Marie, who is a homeschooling mother, described how the SWAT team of 25 to 30 FBI agents swarmed their property with around 15 vehicles at 7:05 a.m. this morning. Having quickly surrounded the house with rifles in firing position, “they started pounding on the door and yelling for us to open it.”
Before opening the door, she explained, her husband tried to calm them, saying, “‘Please, I’m going to open the door, but, please, my children are in the home. I have seven babies in the house.’ But they just kept pounding and screaming,” she said.
When he opened the door, “they had big, huge rifles pointed at Mark and pointed at me and kind of pointed throughout the house,” Ryan-Marie described.
Russia’s SPFS interbank messaging system has expanded at record pace this year, Alla Bakina, the head of the central bank’s national payment system department, said on Friday.
“The SPFS financial messaging system showed serious expansion this year, as we have more foreign participants connecting. Since the beginning of the year, more parties have joined the SPFS than in all previous years of the system’s existence,” Bakina said at a banking forum in Kazan.
According to the official, 50 new entities from abroad joined the SPFS in the first six months of 2022, bringing the total number to 440. Over 100 of them are foreign entities from 12 countries, although the regulator does not disclose the list of countries whose institutions have joined the system.
It should probably not be a surprise average Britons protesting against the expensive relic known as the Crown were arrested during the ostentatious funeral procession of Queen Elizabeth II.
Several people were arrested in the UK for protesting King Charles, including a woman charged for "breach of the peace" for a sign saying: "Abolish monarchy." The royals cost taxpayers $100M/year. Charles inherits the Queen's $500M fortune, without paying inheritance tax.
The arrests, serious violations of the natural right to peaceful protest, are to be expected from a state that has upheld a corrupt, inbred, and brutal monarchy for centuries. Naturally, the arrests for nonviolent protest, at least here in the “West,” were lightly reported.
A few weeks ago I recommended to our County Executives to provide funds for a hand count of our upcoming 2022 governor and US Senate races in selected municipalities. I emphasized this would provide proof to those of us that are skeptical of the voting machines.
The Washington County Executive Committee recently announced that the Washington County Board has provided funds to perform a hand count of ALL the votes in the entire county!
This is a great first step. Please announce this on your website so as to encourage other counties in Wisconsin and elsewhere to do the same.
If we find the machines are not tallying the votes correctly, that will be prima facia evidence of the fraud. If the tally is correct, we’ll need to move on. But we definitely need more counties to do what Washington County has done; do a hand count to compare the two. Yes, we are counting the paper ballots not machine images.
War is never a solution; there are always alternatives that could have — and should have —been pursued by those entrusted with the fate of global society before the order was given to send the youth of a nation to go off to fight and die. Any national leader worth his or her salt should seek to exhaust every other possibility to resolve issues confronting their respective countries.
If viewed in a vacuum, the announcement of Russian President Vladimir Putin Wednesday, in a televised address to the Russian people, that he was ordering the partial mobilization of 300,000 military reservists to supplement some 200,000 Russian personnel currently engaged in combat operations on the soil of Ukraine would appear to be the antithesis of seeking an alternative to war.
This announcement was made in parallel with one that authorized referendums to take place on the territory of Ukraine currently occupied by Russian forces regarding the question of joining these territories with the Russian Federation.
Seen in isolation, these actions would appear to represent a frontal assault on international law as defined by the United Nations Charter, which prohibits acts of aggression by one nation against another for the purpose of seizing territory by force of arms. This was the case made by U.S. President Joe Biden when speaking at the United Nations General Assembly hours after Putin’s announcement.
Former President Donald Trump said during a Save America rally in North Carolina on Friday that President Joe Biden is “cognitively impaired” and warned that his leadership might lead the United States into World War III.
Trump’s comments on Biden’s mental capacity came during the end of his rally, when he talked about America being a “nation in decline.” Trump also delivered the end of his speech with ominous music playing in the background, as he has done at several of his rallies.
Trump hit Biden on his failed economic policies, noting a high inflation rate and poor stock market performance.
“But now, we are a nation in decline. We are a failing nation. We are a nation that has the highest inflation in 50 years and where the stock market finished the worst first half of the year since 1872,” Trump said.
He also called out Biden for promoting the Green New Deal and begging for oil from counties such as Venezuela and Saudi Arabia instead of producing oil domestically.
The referendum to join Russia currently underway in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) is a historical event enabling people to exercise their right to self-determination, an observer from Italy said at a briefing in Donetsk on Saturday.
"It is an honor to me to take part in this historical referendum which has satisfied the people’s right to self-determination. I’d like to emphasize that this historical referendum you are holding here today would set a good example, say, for Scotland or Catalonia who have repeatedly attempted to determine their fate, but unfortunately, Europe has been suppressing their will. Meanwhile, Russia has welcomed this referendum here, and we are happy about it," said Gianfranco Vestuto, editor-in-chief of Russia News.
The Italian observer highlighted the friendly atmosphere at polling stations which he said was quite contrary to what Western media had been reporting. "We are being told about terror taking place here, but we can see quite an opposite picture with our own eyes," he said.

The Russia-Ukraine conflict and other stories played up by major US media outlets have apparently failed to strike a nerve with many Americans, who are far more concerned about such issues as violent crime and inflation heading into the midterm congressional elections in November, a leading polling firm has revealed.
“Legacy media gaslighting has failed, massively,” Rasmussen Reports said on Saturday, citing polling showing a divergence between the topics hammered most by cable news outlets and the issues that are concerning to voters. The Ukraine crisis, in particular, has been shrugged off by many voters, failing to rank among the top dozen issues and being cited as “very important” by only one in five Americans.
By comparison, 87% of voters are “concerned” and 56% are “very concerned” about violent crime, Rasmussen reported. Other top issues include energy policy (87% concerned and 54% very concerned), high gas prices (86% and 57%), inflation (85% and 57%), the economy (84% and 55%), and illegal immigration (84% and 54%).
The Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, are holding referendums on accession to Russia from 23 to 27 September. Russian President Vladimir Putin said this week that Russia would accept any decision the people made during the referendums.
The third day of voting in referendums on joining Russia is taking place in the Donbass republics, and the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
In the LPR, voter turnout for two days was 45.86 percent, in the DPR 55.05 percent, in the Kherson region, the turnout for Friday and Saturday was 31.79 percent and in the Zaporozhye region 35.54 percent.
Voting in the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, as well as in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, began on Friday and will end on Tuesday.
Some 93% of people in the Zaporozhye region have voted in favor of acceding to Russia during the first day of the referendum, according to a poll, conducted by the Crimean Republican Institute of Political and Social Studies.
The poll was conducted among 500 citizens on the first day of the referendum on September 23.
On Tuesday, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, along with the Russian-controlled parts of the regions of Zaporozhye and Kherson, said that they would hold referendums on accession to Russia from 23 to 27 September.
On Wednesday morning, in a televised address, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia will do everything to ensure security at the forthcoming referendums in Donbass and other regions, which have appealed to Moscow for support.
The DPR and LPR proclaimed their independence from Ukraine in 2014 after holding referendums. In February 2022, Russia recognized the DPR and LPR as independent states and launched a military operation in Ukraine in response to calls for help from the two breakaway republics.
During Sergei Lavrov's tour of Africa in July, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni assured the Russian foreign minister that “if Russia makes mistakes then we tell them. But when they have not made a mistake we cannot be against them.”
Uganda's military would treat aggression against Russia as aggression against the African continent, Land Forces commander Muhoozi Kainerugaba has indicated.
"President Putin does not have to threaten nuclear war. We hear him. An attack on Russia is an attack on Africa!" Kainerugaba wrote in a tweet Saturday.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the British and Norwegian ambassadors on Saturday, amid anti-government protests broadly supported by the West.
The British envoy, Simon Shercliff, was asked to explain the “hostile” tone of UK-based Persian media, while Norway’s Sigvald Hauge was questioned over the “interventionist stance” of Norway’s Iranian-born parliament speaker, Masud Gharahkhani, Iran’s ISNA news agency reported on Sunday.
Shercliff was summoned over Britain’s hosting of Iran International, Manoto TV, and BBC Persian, Iran International reported. Based in London and funded by Saudi Arabia, Iran International’s pro-opposition line has drawn Tehran’s ire before, and the network has been accused of bias by its own reporters.

British Prime Minister Liz Truss is drawing comparisons to Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan with her pursuit of lower taxes and higher economic growth.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton apparently did not learn from calling half of former President Donald Trump’s supporters a “basket of deplorables.”
The 2016 Democrat presidential nominee was at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin on Friday when she took it extreme and compared his rally goers at his rally in Ohio last week to Nazis, Newsweek reported.
“I remember as a young student trying to figure out, how did people get basically drawn in by Hitler?” she said. “How did that happen? And I’d watch newsreels, and I’d see this guy standing up there ranting and raving and people shouting and raising their arms. I thought what’s happened to these people, why do they believe that?
“We saw the rally in Ohio the other night,” she said. “Trump is there ranting and raving for more than an hour. And you have these rows of young men with their arms raised. I thought, what is going on? … I think it is fair to say we’re in a struggle between democracy and autocracy.”
During the Ohio rally speech, supporters of the former president raised their hands in the air and gave what looked like a pointed index-finger salute, which some speculated could represent Trump’s “America First” movement.
