Every politician in the world knows who committed sabotage in the Baltic Sea against the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, but everyone hypocritically stays silent, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told the media on Thursday.

The Serbian leader recalled that his country had accumulated 667 million cubic meters of gas in gas storage facilities.

"No politician in the world is ignorant of who committed sabotage in the Baltic, but we all pretend to be imbeciles and keep silent so as not to harm the interests of our countries. Hypocrisy is everywhere. Even if this happens to the Balkan Stream (Turk Stream - TASS), we would somehow survive. The people can stay calm," Vucic said.

Earlier, Nord Stream AG reported unprecedented damage that occurred on September 26 on three strings of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 offshore gas pipelines. One leak was detected at Nord Stream 2 near the Danish island of Bornholm. Two more were spotted on Nord Stream. Later, Swedish seismologists said that they had registered two explosions on the gas pipelines’ routes. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, classified those incidents as sabotage, saying that any deliberate violation of European energy infrastructure was unacceptable and would entail the most decisive response.

The US, by refusing to investigate the activities of its biological laboratories and putting pressure on the positions of other countries, confirms the danger of its military-biological project in Ukraine, Russian State Duma Deputy Speaker and Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Commission on Investigation of US Biological Laboratories in Ukraine Irina Yarovaya said on Thursday, commenting on the UN Security Council's refusal to adopt a Russian draft resolution to create a commission to investigate the activities of such biolabs.

"The US refusal to investigate and its pressure on the positions of other countries is another stark confirmation of the danger of the US bioweapons project in Ukraine. In addition, this is a dangerous signal to the whole world about the hidden military-biological threat developed and implemented by the Pentagon," the State Duma press service quoted Yarovaya as saying. According to her, the document was supported by Russia and China, while "Kiev's partners: the UK, the US and France" were against it with other countries abstaining. Yarovaya also recalled that the research of German scientists had already proved the artificial origin of the COVID-19 virus, which only confirmed the need for further investigation into US biolaboratories.

Sowing The Wind

Many Western commenters on the war in Ukraine–including, unfortunately, American Congressmen–seem unfamiliar with what led up to it. A key precursor was the color revolution in 2014 that removed the Ukraine’s elected President Viktor Yanukovych. Yanukovych had extended Russia’s lease on the home port of its Black Sea Fleet in Crimea, Sevastopol. With Yanukovych deposed, and its access to the naval base and city it had founded in 1783 at risk, Russia annexed Crimea, which was populated mostly by ethnic Russians.

In response, the new government of Ukraine dammed the North Crimean Canal, cutting off 90% of Crimea’s fresh water supply. Current Ukrainian President and then-comedian Vladimir Zelensky joked about Crimea’s fresh water shortage in the TV skit below in 2015.

In it, Zelensky played a Crimean tourist visiting Kiev who is obsessed with a pitcher of fresh water.

One of Russia’s first acts after invading Ukraine in February was to blow up the North Crimean Canal Dam, restoring fresh water to Crimea.

Reaping The Whirlwind

Fast forward to this week, and Kiev residents and other Ukrainians are waiting in long lines for water, due to recent Russian strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure.

In the last days before Tuesday’s midterm elections, the polls have increasingly reached a consensus on the state of the race: Republicans lead.

Most pollsters over the past few weeks have found Republicans opening a modest but consistent lead when they ask voters whether they’ll back Democrats or Republicans for Congress.

The results are a reversal from polls conducted just over a month ago, when Democrats seemed to have the advantage.

If the recent polls are right — and they may not be — Republicans will almost certainly take the House. The big question on election night would be whether and where individual Democratic candidates could withstand a hostile political environment. Control of the Senate would depend on it.

The New York Times reported that Harris was asked to be a surrogate for Hochul in the state. Even though Harris is not seen as a popular choice for most Democrats across the country, her connection to the Biden Administration and her lack of popularity have put Harris on the back burner for most candidates. Many Democrats don't want her anywhere near their campaign as the closing days of the election are upon us.

National Democrats panic about Hochul's re-election chances as they see a surging Republican, Lee Zeldin, making up a lot of ground on their candidate. This is occurring in the solidly blue state of New York (at least on the Presidential level). That may spell some terrible news for Democrats in other parts of the country that are far more competitive. One has to wonder what Democrats plan to do to fend off challengers in areas that are more neutral or even purple in their political composition.

Russia has issued new warnings and threats against Norway, a founding member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, for its role in expanding NATO operations in the Arctic region.

"Oslo is now among the most active supporters of NATO's involvement in the Arctic," Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Wednesday. "We consider such developments near Russian borders as Oslo's deliberate pursuit of a destructive course toward escalation of tensions in the Euro-Arctic region and the final destruction of Russian-Norwegian relations."

Zakharova warned additionally that any future "unfriendly actions will be followed by a timely and adequate response." The warning comes as Norwegian media and politicians are caught up in denouncing alleged Russian spy plots.

Europe has a tough winter ahead. Without Russian natural gas, the bloc has a shortage of energy. This has ratcheted up heating bills, and as we’ve already seen, it’s households bearing the brunt of the costs. In the UK alone, one in three households are expected to be pushed into energy poverty this winter.

However, as Statista's Anna Fleck details below, even before the energy crisis began, having a sufficiently heated home was not a given for everyone. In the European Union, nearly seven percent of the population was not able to heat their home properly in 2021.

As Statista's graph, based on Eurostat data, shows, the country most affected by fuel poverty was Bulgaria, where nearly one in four people (23.7 percent) were affected last year, followed by Lithuania (22.5 percent) and Cyprus (19.4 percent).

Russia has again accused the United Kingdom of carrying out attacks on the Nord Stream undersea gas pipelines, with Moscow saying it is considering what “further steps” to take over the alleged acts of sabotage.

“Our intelligence services have data indicating that British military specialists were directing and coordinating the attack,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Tuesday, without providing any evidence to support his claim.

The congressional candidate's daughters, aged 3 and 5, were asleep in the bedroom directly above the room where the shooting occurred, with the bullet coming from a densely wooded area behind the house, piercing a window but not waking the girls.

Harrigan, a firearms manufacturer and former Green Beret, has since come forward to assert he would not be intimidated by the shooting, and that 'death threats aren't enough to knock this Green Beret off that mission.'

Because of these threats - which has spurred the ex-soldier to don bulletproof vests to campaign events - the family said the two girls had been living with their grandparents for much of the campaign cycle.

They have since been relocated out of state - while Harrigan, who was not at the residence during the incident, has revealed he owns a property near the home where the shooting occurred. No injuries were reported.

Riley was charged in 2021 with obstruction after authorities said he told a Jan. 6 attendee to remove photographs from their Facebook page.

Riley then deleted messages he exchanged with the person several days after the person was arrested, according to charging documents.

Riley’s lawyers lodged a motion for acquittal during the trial. Jackson reserved judgement on the motion until after the trial.

“Michael Riley never obstructed any grand jury proceeding, nor did he attempt or intend to do so, and he looks forward to continuing to raise all legal arguments in his defense consistent with the briefing schedule set by the Court on the still pending motion for judgment of acquittal, on which the Court reserved ruling until after the verdict, and in any future appeal, to the extent one becomes necessary,” Christopher Macchiaroli, one of the lawyers, told The Epoch Times via email.

Riley plans to appeal if the court denies the motion for acquittal on the charge for which the jurors returned a guilty verdict.

Heading down the stretch of the 2022 midterm elections, white suburban women - who comprise 20% of the nation's electorate - are swinging back to Republicans in a big way.

A new Wall Street Journal poll finds that white women in the suburbs now favor Republican congressional candidates by a whopping 15% margin -- a jaw-dropping 27-percentage-point move just since August.

The shift has largely been fueled by the group's deepening concerns over inflation and the economy. About 54% say the country is already in a recession while 74% say the economy is heading in the wrong direction. Those numbers are up August readings of 43% and 59%, respectively.

Democrat hopes that the Supreme Court's June overturning of Roe v Wade would spark women to rally around Democratic candidates haven't been realized. The journal found that rising prices are the top concern, with 34% of suburban white women giving it top weight. Abortion comes in third, with just 16% calling it their top issue.

State actors that include China’s communist regime are seeking to influence next week’s U.S. midterm elections, according to the nation’s cybersecurity chief.

China, Iran, and Russia may all seek to influence or otherwise interfere with U.S. democratic processes, according to Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Director Jen Easterly.

“We are concerned about Russia and Iran and China trying to influence our elections,” Easterly said during a Nov. 1 talk at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington-based think tank.

It’s a significant concern when you think about these adversaries who are trying to sow discord, that are trying to break us apart as Americans and are trying to undermine integrity in our elections.”

Easterly’s comments follow closely behind several revelations in recent months regarding how hostile foreign powers are attempting to undermine stability in the United States.

Axios quoted US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, who warned in a call with reporters that avian influenza or bird flu continues to wreak havoc on the poultry industry and could result in a massive shortage of big birds at supermarkets ahead of Thanksgiving.

Vilsack said finding 20-pound turkeys at supermarkets in some regions across the country could be very challenging.

"Some of the turkeys that are being raised right now for Thanksgiving may not have the full amount of time to get to 20 pounds," he said, while addressing the Biden administration's concerns on elevated food inflation.

Vilsack said supermarkets should be well stocked with turkeys but finding a traditional-size one (15-20 pounds) in the next two weeks will be difficult: "It's going to be there, maybe smaller, but it'll be there."

Austria’s government is looking to ban the use of new fossil fuel heaters as of next year and replace very old oil and coal heaters with climate-friendly options by 2025, Euractiv reports.

Austria, like the other EU countries, aims to cut its reliance on Russian gas as soon as possible. The government says that abandoning Russian gas should happen simultaneously with adopting renewable heat options.

Before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Austria received around 80% of the natural gas it consumed from Russia. As of August, this high dependence on Russian gas flows had dropped to below 50%, the government said.

Despite Jamie Dimon's infamous condescension of crypto, banking giant JPMorgan just executed its first-ever cross-border transaction using decentralized finance (DeFi) on a public blockchain.

As Cointelegraph reports, the trade was facilitated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s (MAS) Project Guardian on Nov. 2 - which was established as part of a pilot program to “explore potential decentralized finance (DeFi) applications in wholesale funding markets.”

Bloomberg reports that JPMorgan issued tokenized S$100,000 ($71,000) and then traded it for tokenized yen with Tokyo-based banking firm SBI Digital Asset Holdings.

Singapore’s largest bank - DBS Bank, and business leadership platform Oliver Wyman Forum also took part in the pilot program.

“Today was the first step to show that we can actually trade on these public networks,” said Tyrone Lobban, head of Blockchain Launch and Onyx Digital Assets at JPMorgan, in an interview.
