The Air Force said Friday it has decided to retire an F-35A stealth jet as it was seriously damaged by a bird strike in January 2022.

The Air Force said a comprehensive analysis with its U.S. manufacturer, Lockheed Martin, showed that the F-35A suffered damage in about 300 components, including the airframe, structure, engine and control and navigation system.

Considering the high costs and long period needed for repairs and other security concerns, the Air Force's review committee concluded that it is better to retire the aircraft than to fix it. The plan will be finalized with the defense ministry's approval.

Israel’s military has made no secret of the intensity of its bombardment of the Gaza Strip. In the early days of the offensive, the head of its air force spoke of relentless, “around the clock” airstrikes. His forces, he said, were only striking military targets, but he added: “We are not being surgical.”

There has, however, been relatively little attention paid to the methods used by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to select targets in Gaza, and to the role artificial intelligence has played in their bombing campaign.

These include, among other things, whether guns were present at the Washington D.C. rally preceding the riot on January 6, 2021, and her knowledge of a meeting where chants allegedly urging to “Hang Mike Pence” were allegedly uttered.

A digital signature indicating Hutchinson’s approval of the revisions was included on the errata sheet.

The GOP-controlled House on Thursday voted on a major issue involving migrants who are currently in the U.S. illegally amid a record surge following President Biden’s day-one reversals of his predecessor’s highly successful immigration and border enforcement policies.

Lawmakers passed a provision that bars the use of public land to temporarily house illegal migrants while they are applying for asylum, according to Colorado Newsline.

“The bill, H.R. 5283, passed with a majority of Republicans in support, 224–203,” the outlet reported, adding that the bill’s fate in the upper chamber is also certain, but not in a positive way for the GOP.

“It’s dead on arrival in the U.S. Senate, where Democrats hold a slim majority, and many Democrats criticized the bill as a messaging tactic for the 2024 elections, where hard-line immigration policies are the cornerstone of the GOP platform,” the outlet reported.

The inmate who stabbed former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin in federal prison last week did so 22 times, with an improvised knife, according to recently filed criminal charges. He also admitted to corrections officers that he would have killed Chauvin had they not responded as quickly as they did.

The U.S. Attorney's Office identified the alleged perpetrator as 52-year-old John Turscak. He now faces charges of attempted murder, assault with intent to commit murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault resulting in serious bodily injury.

Chauvin was badly hurt after he was stabbed in a federal prison one week ago; the charging documents indicate the stabbing happened in the law library at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, Arizona. Chauvin is currently serving his 22-year-old sentence there. The former police officer was convicted of killing George Floyd during an arrest in May 2020.

The latest push to curb Second Amendment rights comes in the form of a Democrat-led bill that seeks to impose a sweeping firearms ban with exceptions that gun rights groups say are so fuzzy that the prohibition could prohibit nearly all semi-automatic handguns.

The bill, dubbed the Gas-Operated Semi-Automatic Firearms Exclusion Act (GOSAFE) that a gun rights group panned as "perhaps the most sweeping gun prohibition bill of the 21st Century," was introduced on Nov. 29 by a number of Democrat senators, along with an Independent—with no Republicans joining.

Generally, the key idea of the bill is to ban firearms that can be fired quickly (along with accessories that increase firing speed) and have the ability to accept magazines with a capacity of 10 rounds or more, all in a bid to limit "a firearm's ability to inflict maximum harm in a short amount of time."

Bloomberg reports that Signa, also the co-owner of New York's Chrysler building, has assets upwards of $25 billion as of the end of 2022. It filed for insolvency in Vienna on Wednesday. 

"Despite considerable efforts in recent weeks, the necessary liquidity for an out-of-court restructuring could not be sufficiently secured," the company said.

Signa's current debt load totaled around $5.5 billion, according to creditor representative KSV1870. There are over 273 creditors impacted by the proceedings.

An appeals court on Friday upheld the disorderly conduct convictions of actor Jussie Smollett, who was accused of staging a racist, homophobic attack against himself in 2019 and then lying about it to Chicago police.

Smollett, who appeared in the TV show “Empire,” challenged the role of a special prosecutor, jury selection, evidence and many other aspects of the case. But all were turned aside in a 2-1 opinion from the Illinois Appellate Court.

Smollett had reported to police that he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack by two men wearing ski masks. The manhunt for the attackers soon turned into an investigation of Smollett himself, leading to his arrest on charges he had orchestrated the attack.

As reported by BleepingComputer, these new zero-days have already been exploited by hackers in their attacks. However, Cupertino hasn’t provided further details on how hackers are using them nor has it revealed which Apple users are currently being targeted.

Both of these zero-days (tracked as CVE-2023-42916 and CVE-2023-42917) were discovered in Apple’s WebKit browser engine which powers Safari and is also used in many of the company’s apps for iOS, iPadOS and macOS.

If exploited, these vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to gain access to sensitive information stored on Apple devices through an out-of-bounds read weakness or to execute arbitrary code by using malicious webpages to take advantage of a memory corruption bug.

WASHINGTON, DC —The Rutherford Institute is sounding a renewed warning against efforts by the government to amass extensive, sensitive private information about individual citizens and their households through its mandatory American Community Survey (ACS).

The last operating blast furnace at U.S. Steel’s plant in Granite City will remain idled indefinitely, the company said Tuesday, extending a closure first billed as temporary.

The company on Tuesday also notified 600 additional employees that they might lose their jobs.

U.S. Steel spokeswoman Amanda Malkowski, however, said the company only expected to lay off a portion of those.

And a local union official said he thought the plant would keep operating with the same number of workers, at least for now.

The Supreme Court announced that former Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, the first woman appointed to the Supreme Court, passed away Friday morning. She was 93 years old.

O’Connor was appointed by former President Ronald Reagan in 1981. She retired in 2006.

Fox News revealed that O’Connor died from complications related to advanced dementia and a respiratory illness.

Rep. George Santos (R-NY) is no longer a member of Congress. The House voted 311-114 Friday morning to expel him in the first House expulsion since 2002.

The historic vote sets a new precedent in the House. Santos departs even as he has not been convicted of a crime and has pleaded not guilty.

Santos survived two earlier attempts to expel him, but could not hold on after a brutal report from the House Ethics Committee on its investigations into his actions.

The ethics committee report included evidence Santos knowingly filed false reports with the Federal Election Commission, used campaign funds for personal purposes including subscriptions to OnlyFans and botox treatments, and willfully violated ethics laws as it relates to his Financial Disclosure (FD) Statements filed with the House.

Pfizer on Friday said it would stop developing the twice-daily version of its experimental weight loss pill after obese patients taking the drug lost significant weight but had trouble tolerating the drug in a mid-stage clinical study. 

The drugmaker observed high rates of adverse side effects, which were mostly mild and gastrointestinal, among patients. A significant share of patients also stopped taking the pill, which aims to be a more convenient alternative to highly popular weight loss injections.
