"The great majority of mankind are satisfied with appearances, as though they are realities, and are often even more influenced by the things that seem than by those that are." -- Niccoló Machiavelli, "The Discourses." 1517.
“It was a good day for democracy, and I think a good day for America,” declared President Joe Biden after a better-than-expected midterm elections performance by his fellow Democrats.
In a semi-triumphant address, the incumbent portrayed the election results, which have denied Republicans an easy path to congressional domination, as “a clear and unmistakable message” that his political agenda remains popular among a majority of Americans.
Buoyed by the results, Biden confidently headed for a series of high-stakes meetings across Southeast Asia over the next week, his first to the crucial region.
The idea of democracy as it emerged gradually out of the Enlightenment, and drawing on ancient forms in Greece and Rome, is that the people govern themselves. People serve as the main determinants of the rules, laws, and legislation under which they live. They even set the rules concerning what people are allowed to do to themselves and each other using government: such is the point of a constitution.
In a representative democracy, we elect leaders who represent our interests in the halls of government. Crucially, the main point is not the election or even the right of masses of people to vote. Those are means to an end. The end is self-government, government by and for the people, which came to be seen in republican theory as a crucial feature of freedom itself.
The Chinese People's Liberation Army is expected to undergo continued expansion and modernization following last month's CCP five-yearly national congress, which made key revisions to the Communist Party constitution. This included changes on the nation's military posture.
One of those revisions stated the need to "elevate our people's armed forces to world-class standards" - according to an addition to the party constitution, as translated in the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post. This is being seen as aimed at expansion of deployed assets overseas, also following widespread reports within the past year that Beijing is seeking to establish a string of bases on Africa's Atlantic coast.
Space 2.0 marks a new wave of space travel. As Statista's Anna Fleck details below, the boom is primarily being shaped by private companies, including an increasing number of start-ups, which are combining the latest tech innovations with new business models.
In the past, space travel was financed almost exclusively by the state and operated by a few established companies such as Boeing, Airbus or Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman, among others.
Founded in 2002 by Tesla founder Elon Musk, SpaceX is currently the leading company in terms of number of spacecraft launches. The company is known for a number of projects, including providing supply flights to the International Space Station (ISS), with its first manned flight having docked there at the end of May 2020. SpaceX is also the pioneer of Starlink satellites, which are low orbit satellites intended to provide broadband internet to communities with little or no connectivity. As of August 2022, around 2,800 of SpaceX’s Starlink satellites orbited the earth. This is set to rise to 12,000 in the coming years.
On September 15, 2021, SpaceX took four space tourists into space for three days, marking the world's first space mission without a professional astronaut. In the long term, SpaceX plans to colonize Mars.
An NGO humanitarian vessel carrying hundreds of migrants picked up in the Mediterranean has been granted permission to dock in the French port of Marseille after the newly elected Italian government repeatedly refused it permission to offload passengers in Sicily.
A call took place on Tuesday between Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and French President Emmanuel Macron where the former emphasized the Italian government’s hard-line approach to immigration in no uncertain terms; this prompted the French president to authorize the docking of the Ocean Viking, operated by the SOS Méditerranée NGO, in France.
There are currently 234 migrants on board the vessel, which has been anchored off the Italian coast for over two weeks awaiting a safe place to dock.
The Italian government has in recent days allowed the docking of humanitarian vessels in Italian ports in order to allow vulnerable people, namely women, children, and those with medical conditions, to disembark. Italian authorities have then ordered the captains to leave Italian territory with a number of adult males still onboard, urging the ships to port in the countries responsible for operating the vessels, including Germany and Norway.
Leaked documents reveal the ‘paused’ ‘Disinformation Governance Board’’ is back online
The US Department of Homeland Security is secretly ramping up its efforts to censor and suppress information it considers dangerous - in other words, it's focussed on inconvenient, but true, facts. A body originally created to defend Americans from terror is now threatening free speech everywhere online - and doing so with the active help of major tech firms.
This is all revealed in leaked documents obtained by journalists Ken Klippenstein and Lee Fang. Perhaps the most worrying papers are those that show that the highly controversial and widely condemned DHS (or “Disinformation Governance Board”) – and the serious threat it poses to free speech – hasn't gone anywhere.
"It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything." -- Joseph Stalin
Following the Florida election debacle of 2000, Americans were promised a more honest, transparent, and verifiable system of elections. We didn't get it, because the election stealers won that election and decided that keeping the current system was their best guarantee of re-election.
The election of 2016 changed that. The candidate being cheated by the system, Donald Trump, still prevailed thanks to a landslide that overcame the vote rigging. He will see having an honest election system as his best chance for a second term. Hence, there is a real opportunity to throw out the current system, whch is designed to enable and conceal stealing elections, and replace it with a system that hinders cheating as much as possible.
To begin, stolen elections are a reality in this nation. John F. Kennedy stole the 1960 election from Richard Nixon. Nixon stole his re-election in what became known as the Watergate scandal. George W. Bush likely stole the 2000 election from Al Gore, and everyone had a ring-side seat watching Hillary Clinton trying to steal the election from Donald Trump.
A good place to start to learn about election stealing is the HBO documentary, "Hacking Democracy." It is available on NetFlix, Amazon Live, and Hulu. Here is a YouTube video of the final scenes showing how an electronic voting machine has the election results changed without even needing to touch the machine!
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis managed to pull off a landslide victory on Tuesday over Democratic challenger Charlie Crist, himself a one-term Sunshine State governor who defected to the opposition party.
In his victory speech Tuesday evening with wife Casey DeSantis at his side, the popular governor, who won by nearly 20 points, laid out his vision for the future as well as why he believes he won so convincingly.
“We made promises to the people of Florida and we have delivered on those promises. And so today, after four years, the people have delivered their verdict. Freedom is here to stay,” DeSantis said. “Now, thanks to the overwhelming support of the people of Florida, we not only won election, we have rewritten the political map. Thank you for honoring us with a win for the ages.”
Many aspects of the 2022 midterms Tuesday night appeared to be a replay of the suspicious activity seen during the 2020 presidential election.
During the 2020 race, Dems blamed Donald Trump’s loss on a “red mirage” that showed him in the lead on election night, however in the following days he was overtaken by Joe Biden as Dems received massive overnight ballot dumps they claimed came from mail-in voting, as they also miraculously found thousands of Democrat votes.
While Americans endure a horrible economy, reckless wars, attacks on the family, record crime, and historical political corruption, they got to see the party in power thrive in an election.
Analysts across the nation are now raising alarm over how this could have happened, some going so far as saying last night felt “wholly manufactured” by Langley.
“It seriously feels like we are watching the first wholly manufactured election in our history, in which all of the key competitive races have had the results directly programmed by Langley,” said ‘Publius 2.0′ in a guest post on The Gateway Pundit. “[Despite all of what Americans are currently suffering], the Democrat monolith is barely dented.”
Michigan polls closed at 8:00PM yesterday, election day 2022. The results strongly favoring Democrats shocked the pollsters and prognosticators, who all predicted some degree of a ‘red wave’ that never materialized.
The results directly conflict with the perception by many campaign professionals, pollsters, and those in the media that were predicting strong Republican gains.
Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake (R) excoriated Maricopa County leadership over reports of vote tabulation machines breaking down.
“I don’t like the embarrassment of every election having problems. I hope you don’t either,” she told reporters at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.
“Within minutes of the polls opening up, I started getting people calling, voters in tears, calling my personal number, saying ‘What’s going on? The tabulators aren’t working. They told me to put my my ballot into a box and they would drive it downtown to county,'” Lake said. “This is not normal stuff. We don’t have to have elections run this way.”
“They got to fix this problem. This is incompetency,” she added. “I hope it’s not malice.”
That line prompted NBC News’ Vaughn Hilliard to lash out: “To be clear, the lines are not acceptable. At the same time, there is no evidence to suggest this is not going to be an accurate election.”
