“As interest costs go up in the United States, you get in this vicious circle, where higher interest rates cause higher funding costs, cause higher debt issuance, which cause further bond liquidation, which cause higher rates, which puts us in an untenable fiscal position.” -- Paul Tudor Jones, October 10, 2023

Via SchiffGold.com,

Central bank gold buying has been a significant factor in the yellow metal’s spectacular run-up to new record highs. But with its recent small correction downward, it’s a good time to look at which central banks are selling — and why.

For one, Thailand has been selling the gold top to help rebalance its reserves. However, the biggest central bank gold seller by far is currently Uzbekistan, and has been for some time. The country has better reasons than most to sell the top and pull in some revenue: Uzbekistan bought a lot of gold when prices were lower, but even more importantly, they’re one of the world’s top 10-12 producers and exporters of gold in the world.

Being a producer helps reduce some of the pressure to hold as much gold as possible as global inflation continues to run hot, conflict in the Middle East drags on, and the ongoing war continues to rage between nearby Russia and Ukraine.

However, Uzbekistan’s major problem with gold is one of overdependence — they don’t have a lot of other revenue sources, are heavily indebted, and have leaned on gold sales to replenish their treasury without any major economic reforms to reduce the degree to which it has to lean on gold exports. If gold crashes, the central bank and government have few solid resources to soften the blow. Thankfully, if you zoom out, gold always trends up as central banks devalue their currencies — but Uzbekistan doesn’t have other tools to work with during gold’s major drawdowns.

Likewise, if there are disruptions around Uzbekistan’s gold mining industry that hamper its discovery, production, or export, the Uzbekistan central bank is left without equally effective measures to prop up the som, its troubled national currency. With gold’s rise, becoming one of the world’s biggest sellers allowed Uzbekistan to prop up the som against the US dollar — but without its stash of gold, the country’s economy and currency would be in a huge heap of trouble.

Update (1345ET): Legal minds are beside themselves at how the judge in the Trump 'hush money' case has instructed jurors to rule - first in what constitutional law professor Jonathan Turley called "the coup de grace instruction," Judge Juan Merchan said that there is no need to agree on what occurred - and can disagree on what the crime was among the charges.

"Merchan just delivered the coup de grace instruction," Turley wrote on X. "He said that there is no need to agree on what occurred. They can disagree on what the crime was among the three choices.  Thus, this means that they could split 4-4-4 and he will still treat them as unanimous..."

"This is absolute insanity," posted Missouri Attorney General Andrew Baily, in response to another Turley observation - namely that the jury will not be given copies of their instructions, but can ask for them to be read again.

What could be behind this activist judge?

With closing arguments in Donald Trump's hush money trial having ended on Tuesday, jury deliberations have officially begun, putting the outcome of the case in the hands of a dozen New Yorkers.

A jury of seven men and five women were instructed to begin deliberating just before 11:30 a.m., where they will weigh in on the first criminal trial of a former US president. While the jurors' discussions will be in private, they can send Trump-hating Judge Juan Merchan notes asking to rehear testimony or review evidence.

"It is not my responsibility to judge the evidence here. It is yours," said Merchan.

Trump is charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with an alleged scheme to shelve potentially embarrassing claims during the 2016 US election - similar to how the Clintons paid Paula Jones $850,000 to drop a sexual harassment lawsuit after more than four years of legal action.

According to Merchan, "Your verdict on each count you consider, whether guilty or not, must be unanimous," adding "That is, each and every juror must agree to it."

That said, they do not need to be unanimous on what crime they think Trump is guilty of.

"You should discuss the evidence and consult with each other, listen to each other, give each other's views careful consideration. And when you deliberate, you should do so with a view to reaching agreement when that can be done without surrendering an individual juror," Merchan continued.

As the Epoch Times notes further, all the evidence from trial has been loaded onto a laptop, and Juror 4 and Juror 6 volunteered to operate it for the group.

Merchan checked with defense attorney Todd Blanche about whether defense counsel explained to President Trump about evidence being on the laptop for jurors.

Mr. Blanche affirmed that defense counsel reviewed the contents of the laptop and have no objections to this protocol.

"I always watch the jurors. I watch to see who is paying attention and who is not," said Merchan. "Justice Merchan said. "Each of you is very engaged in this case. But we're not going to excuse [alternates]."

During closing arguments on Tuesday, Merchan criticized Blanche for telling the jury that the former president could go to prison if they convict - and reminded them that their decision would be based on the word of Michael Cohen, who Blanche described as a "liar" who "lied to" the jury.

"You cannot send somebody to prison, you cannot convict somebody based upon the words of Michael Cohen," said Blanche - to which prosecutors jumped in and objected.

Merchan agreed, sustaining the objection.

"That was outrageous, Mr. Blanche," he said. "Someone who’s been a prosecutor as long as you have, someone who’s been an attorney as long as you have knows that it’s highly inappropriate."

Claire's Observations:  Absoflippinglutely unbelievable; but thoroughly predictable, coming from this guy.  Lawfare can geopolitically eviscerate one's political opponents, without ever actually drawing physical blood.

Of course, that physical drawing of blood, or extreme interference with breathing, can always happen later, once the accused is incarcerated, as happened with good old Jeff Epstein in Los Angeles.

I knew that everything I had been taught about this country, and the values for which it allegedly  stood, was a total lie, when President Kennedy was assassinated, and that America was just another banana republic, with a pretty "window dressing" of virtue signaling about our care for humanity, rights, freedom, and  human dignity, while the leadership of this country was bombing the hell out of Vietnam.

That disconnect has stayed with me ever since, and continues as US bombs are used to kill innocent Palestinians, Iraqis, and Iranians.

And to the readers of WRH, IF (God forbid) Trump is convicted, ABSOLUTELY NO VIOLENCE, PLEASE!!  Violence is precisely what the By-di-Bidenistas would love to see happen, generating a string of arrests, and incarcerations, just as they did with the J-6 people, and that "investigation" is on-going, with even more people being arrested and charged.

And steer completely clear of DC.The halls of Congress are no longer "The People's House and Senate"; it is completely infested by 21st century "money junkies", available to support any bill, no matter how insanely bad it might be for the American people, for the right price.

Just think of your your Congressional Representatives as a commodity, like pork bellies, and you get a pretty accurate (and grim) picture of how far this country's government has fallen.

As of 2023, the following article appeared, https://www.demlist.com/demdaily-the-wealthiest-members-of-congress/ giving us the insight that ".... more than half of the entire Congress are millionaires."

And trust me; they will do what their "ownership class" tells them to, including initiating World War III with Russia and/or China; hey, they've got their bunkers, champagne, and caviar, while the rest of us are obliterated; so who cares?!?

American M1 Abrams battle tanks have critical flaws that call into doubt their utility in the Ukrainian conflict, CNN reported, citing Ukrainian crews of the tanks.

The US military’s main $10 million battle tanks that were supplied to Ukraine don’t have sufficient armor to protect them from the latest weapons, according to the report.

"Its armor is not sufficient," said one Ukrainian crew member. "It doesn’t protect the crew."

"This is the war of drones. So now, when the tank rolls out, they always try to hit them," he went on to say.

Another crew member said the US tanks are the "number one target."

"Without defense, the crew doesn’t survive at the battlefield," he said.

President Trump was back in court on Wednesday morning in Alvin Bragg’s ‘hush money’ show trial in New York City.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg indicted Trump in April 2023 on 34 felony counts related to ‘hush payments’ he made to Stormy Daniels.

Trump was accused of paying porn star Stormy Daniels, AKA, Stephanie Clifford, ‘hush payments’ through his then-attorney Michael Cohen in a scheme to silence her and stop the story about their alleged affair from being published in the National Enquirer.

The jury deliberations began on Wednesday after Judge Merchan instructed them to choose among the three predicate crimes Trump supposedly committed.

Judge Merchan is allowing the jurors to choose ONE of the three predicate crimes. Jurors do NOT have to unanimously agree on which of the three predicate crimes Trump committed.

Of course, this will make it easier to convict Trump.

Former Republican presidential nominee Nikki Haley has been criticised after she was pictured writing "finish them" on a bombshell while on a visit to northern Israel.

The picture, posted on social media by Israeli politician Danny Danon, showed Haley also writing "America loves Israel always" on the munition.

The images followed an Israeli strike on a displacement camp in southern Gaza's Rafah, which killed at least 45 Palestinians and wounded 200 more, and drew condemnation from various European and Arab capitals.

A CNN analysis found the munitions used in the strike were US-supplied.

Israel faces the prospect of being placed on a UN  "list of shame" of states which kill children, The New Arab’s sister publication Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported, citing the Hebrew Channel 13.

"A marathon of discussions are currently taking place in Israel ahead of a dramatic decision within days that will decide whether or not Israel will be listed on a blacklist of countries that kill children" the channel reported.

The report said that the Israeli army could likely be declared an entity that harms children and abuses their rights. This has caused "great concern" among senior officials as it comes amid growing worldwide outrage over Israel's war on Gaza and could harm arms supplies to the country.

The UN secretary-general publishes an annual "list of shame" which contains serious abusers of children’s rights and is a designation that lasts four years.

The list mainly focuses on those involved in child recruitment, sexual exploitation and killing of children, attacks on schools or hospitals, and other violations.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning has agreed to attend next month’s Ukrainian peace conference in Switzerland with one proviso, that Russia be invited. Mao said that Beijing supports the “timely convening of an international peace conference that is recognized by both the Russian and Ukrainian sides.”

That sounds reasonable, after all, one would expect that peace negotiations would include the representatives of the warring parties. But that is not the case here. And while more than 90 countries have confirmed that they will attend the upcoming meetings, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has excluded the one nation whose presence might make a difference. Russia.

Naturally, many analysts are puzzled by Zelensky’s omission which precludes any possible settlement or end to the hostilities. Simply put, the fighting will continue until Russia and Ukraine conduct bilateral negotiations and reach an agreement.

So, what is going on here?

What’s going on is that Zelensky is perpetrating a fraud. Clearly, there is no intention to strike a deal with Russia or to end the fighting. How could there be, after all, Russia wasn’t invited. So, we must assume that the peace conference will be used for some other purpose, like demonizing Putin or drumming up more support for the war.

The United Nations, which has warned of famine in Gaza, said on Wednesday the amount of humanitarian aid entering the enclave has dropped by two-thirds since Israel began its military operation in the enclave's southern Rafah region this month.

"The amount of food and other aid entering Gaza, already insufficient to meet the soaring needs, has further shrunk since 7 May," the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said.

A daily average of 58 aid trucks reached Gaza from May 7 to Tuesday, compared with a daily average of 176 aid trucks from April 1 to May 6, OCHA said, a drop of 67%. It said those figures excluded private sector cargo and fuel.

For nearly a decade, Israel has been surveilling senior International Criminal Court officials and Palestinian human rights workers as part of a secret operation to thwart the ICC’s probe into alleged war crimes, a joint investigation by +972 Magazine, Local Call, and the Guardian can reveal.

The multi-agency operation, which dates back to 2015, has seen Israel’s intelligence community routinely surveil the court’s current chief prosecutor Karim Khan, his predecessor Fatou Bensouda, and dozens of other ICC and UN officials. Israeli intelligence also monitored materials that the Palestinian Authority submitted to the prosecutor’s office, and surveilled employees at four Palestinian human rights organizations whose submissions are central to the probe.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday hinted that the US may allow Ukraine to strike Russian territory with US-made missiles, which would risk provoking a major response from Moscow.

Blinken made the comments during a visit to Moldova and repeated a line that he’s said before about the issue, that the US doesn’t “encourage or enable” Ukrainian attacks inside Russia and that where to strike is ultimately up to Ukraine. But he added that the US would “adapt and adjust” his position on the battlefield.

When asked if that meant the US would support Ukrainian attacks inside Russia, Blinken replied, “Adapt and adjust means exactly that.”

Blinken’s comments came a week after The New York Times reported that he was leading the charge within the Biden administration to lift restrictions on Ukraine’s use of US weapons so they can strike Russian territory. The push to escalate the proxy war is a response to Russia’s offensive in Kharkiv, which was launched from Russia’s Belgorod Oblast.

Senator Lindsay Graham was bursting with contempt for the International Criminal Court (ICC) when he grilled Secretary of State Blinken at a May 21 Congressional hearing. Wagging his finger, he warned that, if the ICC gets away with issuing arrest warrants for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, “we are next.”

The audience at the hearing, stacked with CODEPINK pro-Palestine supporters, burst out in applause at the notion of the US being hauled before the world’s highest court. “You can clap all you want,” an angry Graham retorted, “but they tried to come after our soldiers in Afghanistan.” Graham was thankful that in the Afghan case “reason prevailed” when the case was dropped, adding that the US must level sanctions against the ICC “not only to protect our friends in Israel but to protect ourselves.”

Graham was referring to the 2019 efforts of former ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda to hold both the Taliban and the US accountable for war crimes in Afghanistan. When Graham said that “reason prevailed,” he really meant that US thuggery prevailed because the Trump administration brazenly imposed sanctions against ICC officials, denying them visas to the US and freezing their assets in US banks. President Biden lifted the sanctions but did so with the tacit understanding that the court would not resume the probe of US crimes in Afghanistan. The message from both Democratic and Republican presidents was clear: Do not dare hold the US to the same standards you use for others.

I’ve written about this before, and I’m sure I’ll write about it again.

We’re told that the RNA COVID vaccines force the cells of the body to produce a foreign “spike” protein.

There is a little thing you may have heard of called EVIDENCE.

In other words, show me a well-done study, using a few thousand people who have been vaccinated, which proves that all these people’s cells ARE producing that foreign protein and ONLY that foreign protein.

There isn’t such a study.

But if there were—

“Look, a few hundred people didn’t produce the spike protein at all. Wonder what they DID produce.”

“I see a hundred people out of two thousand who produced a huge excess of the spike protein. Wonder what effect THAT is having.”

“I see two hundred people who produced the spike protein plus a bunch of other foreign proteins. A few of those foreign compounds I’ve never seen before. That’s not good at all.”

In fact, show me a large-scale study in which an injection is designed to force the human body to produce ANY specific protein. Let’s see the results.

Can’t find that study, either?

Believing what genetic researchers tell you is like believing what a grifter tells you about how to win at roulette.

Russia has increased its submarine presence in the Atlantic at a higher level than ever in recent years, the top U.S. officer overseeing operations in Europe said Wednesday, citing one of several examples contradicting conclusions that the military loyal to Russian President Vladimir Putin has been severely degraded by his war in Ukraine.

“The Russians have been more active than we’ve seen them in years,” Army Gen. Chris Cavoli, the top commander for NATO and U.S. military operations in Europe, told Congress on Wednesday of Moscow’s undersea capabilities.

“Their patrols into the Atlantic and throughout the Atlantic are at a high level most of the time, at a higher level than we’ve seen in years,” Cavoli testified before the House Armed Services Committee. “And this, despite all the efforts they’re undertaking in Ukraine.”

In case of an attack, Russia will act ‘as the situation demands,’ and its response may be truly devastating, said Konstantin Gavrilov, head of Russia’s delegation to the Vienna talks on military security and arms control.

"On the doctrinal level, we deliberately maintain a certain degree of uncertainty regarding the nature and scope of our possible nuclear response to an aggression. A potential aggressor needs to realize that, if attacked, we reserve the right to act ‘as the situation demands,’ so to speak, and use all our capabilities," reads the transcript of his speech at the 1079th Plenary Meeting of the Forum for Security Cooperation of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), published by the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website.

"Russia has clearly designated its "red lines," and we strongly recommend not to cross them. If an adversary decides to infringe upon them, the response may be truly devastating," he added.

It is no secret that the Biden family has a checkered history. Republicans have long accused Joe and members of his family of conducting bribery schemes. For years, Biden’s brothers have allegedly used his influence to secure deals.

But his son Hunter has frequently been named over major scandals involving foreign actors.

On top of this, Hunter is facing his own scandals and problems. He is currently facing a trial regarding a gun charge. Anything that hurts Hunt could end up hurting Biden and his shaky reelection campaign. And now, it looks like he might have been caught trying to undermine the upcoming trial.

From Breitbart:
President Joe Biden visited Hallie Biden, the former wife of Beau Biden and Hunter Biden’s former lover, before she will likely testify in Hunter’s gun trial, the White House press pool reported Sunday.

The White House said Joe Biden’s visit with his daughter-in-law had nothing to do with Hunter’s pending gun trial…

Hallie is expected to testify as a witness in Hunter’s gun trial. A 2018 police report showed she tossed a gun owned by Hunter in a dumpster behind a grocer, a source told Fox News.

Recently, Hollywood actor Dennis Quaid celebrated Donald Trump. During an interview, he praised the Republican candidate for reaching people in their neighborhoods. Quaid, an icon in Hollywood for years, rocked the liberal boat with this comment.

You can just imagine the outrage from people online over this. Quaid respected Trump for his ability to go to (predominately liberal) neighborhoods in New York.

Now, the actor is doubling down on his comments. While leftists rage over Quaid’s compliments of Trump, he just dropped the gauntlet on the election. And he is revealing the biggest reason he is making such a critical statement.

From Fox News:
Dennis Quaid argued during a recent television interview that, rather than politics, it was the “weaponization of the justice system” and his policy record that ultimately convinced him to vote for former president Trump.

“People might call him an a–hole, but he’s my a–hole,” the Hollywood actor declared…
