For many supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro, Sunday’s presidential election in Brazil can have just two possible outcomes: They celebrate or they take to the streets.

That is because, they say, his defeat can only mean the vote was rigged.

“There’s a lot of fraud,” said Kátia de Lima, 47, a store clerk at a rally for Mr. Bolsonaro this month. “It’s proven.”

At the same rally north of Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Roberto, 55, a government worker, said, “Anyone who votes for Bolsonaro is worried about the voting machines.”

And Fabrício Frieber, a lawyer from the state of Bahia, added, “Bolsonaro has been warning us.”

Brazil’s Supreme Court has ordered police to remove roadblocks erected by supporters of far-right President Jair Bolsonaro, who still has not publicly acknowledged his election defeat to left-wing rival Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Justice Alexandre de Moraes on Tuesday called on the Federal Highway Police to disperse the blockades, which were organised primarily by truckers, a key Bolsonaro constituency.

The highway police said truckers had blocked highways at 271 points, partially or fully, as part of protests that have spread to 23 of Brazil’s 26 states in the wake of Bolsonaro’s loss to Lula in Sunday’s election.

The police force said another 192 roadblocks had been cleared.

Israel will snatch swathes of Palestinian land near Nablus in the occupied West Bank for the expansion of an illegal Israeli settlement, an activist said.

A military order strips three Palestinian villages of around 616 dunams (152 acres) of land so the Eli settlement can be expanded, said Ghassan Daghlas, who monitors settlement activities in the northern West Bank.

The impacted villages are Qaryout, As-Sawiya and Al-Lubban Ash-Sharqiya, according to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.

It comes as Nablus and surrounding areas came under a three-week Israeli blockade.

The Central Bank said that the banking system in the country is getting back to normal levels, and urged citizens to remain supportive of the banking sector in the country.

Haseebullah Noori, press director of Da Afghanistan Bank (Central Bank), said that the banking sector is out of the crisis now. The Central Bank instructed citizens to open their bank accounts and said they can withdraw their money without any restrictions.

“Those who want to open a new bank account, they can do so whenever, if they want to, without any restrictions. There has been further work done in this regard,” he said.

However, residents of Kabul expressed frustration and said that they are facing challenges in withdrawing their money from the banks.

“If the money is not withdrawn on time, and the client has a patient who is in a critical situation, the patient might die because they need money to be withdrawn,” said Jamal Nasir, a resident of Kabul.

“Those who want to have a business, they need more money, but the bank doesn’t provide more than 20,000 Afs,”  said Fawad, a resident of Kabul.

Prominent jailed Egyptian activist Alaa Abd el-Fattah has begun a full hunger strike ahead of the COP27 climate summit, as supporters say he will be either dead or free when world leaders convene in Sharm el-Sheikh next week.

Abd el-Fattah said in a letter to his family that he would start a zero-calories hunger strike on Tuesday and stop drinking water from November 6, when global climate talks are set to kick off in the Red Sea town.

The government of Pakistan has approved a deal worth nearly $112m to import 300,000 tonnes of wheat from Russia to meet its domestic shortfall.

The deal endorsed by the Economic Cooperation Committee on Monday comes as Pakistan struggles to balance its fragile economy and manage the aftermath of devastating floods this summer that killed more than 1,700 people and affected some 33 million.

Early exit polls show former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is poised to return to power in a Tuesday vote that reportedly had huge turnout - the largest the country has seen in over two decades.

Israel is on edge waiting for the results after five rounds of voting in three-and-a-half years, which still has yet to produce a clear winner and new government; instead there's been nothing but gridlock and power-sharing arrangements so far.

The Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal on Oct. 31, leaving in place a federal appeals court ruling that allowed the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to require the wearing of masks on airplanes, trains, and buses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although the TSA abandoned its mask mandate in April, the decision allows a Dec. 10, 2021, ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to remain on the books as a legal precedent that the government may rely upon in the future.

Up to 14 people have been shot and injured in a mass shooting in Chicago’s west side late Monday, including three children, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Chicago police Supt. David Brown told a press conference late Monday that the shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. in Lawndale at California Avenue and Polk Street.

“They’re all in various conditions between critical and non-life-threatening,” he said of the victims.

The youngest victim is just 3 years old. Another two victims were also children, aged 11 and 13.

Other victims were adults.

“We know it’s a drive-by [shooting], we know it happened in just a few seconds,” he said, noting that the shooting was captured via police observation device (POD) video.

“It began and then was over by three seconds, with the car pulling out after driving by, shooting randomly into the crowd.”

A mom of three was executed in front of her kids less than 24 hours after her estranged husband was sprung from jail on no bail over a caught-on-camera beatdown she’d posted to her Facebook page in a desperate plea for help.

The shocking case — in Gov. Kathy Hochul’s western New York hometown — has sparked fresh outrage to New York’s no-cash-bail laws and to the governor and fellow Democrats for refusing to repeal them.

Adam Bennefield, 45, who has a prior conviction for kidnapping another ex at gunpoint, is now charged with shooting dead his 40-year-old wife, Keaira Bennefield.

Iran is planning an “imminent attack” on Saudi Arabia and an Iraqi city where American troops are based, prompting the US to heightened its military alert level, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing unnamed American and Saudi officials.

Saudi Arabia shared the information with US intelligence officials, which included details of a potential strike on Erbil, Iraq, according to the report.

Pentagon spokesman Air Force Brig Gen. Patrick Ryder declined to confirm the information Tuesday.

“I’m not gonna talk about specific force protection levels, [but] I can say that we do remain concerned about the threat situation in the region, whether in Iraq or elsewhere” he told reporters.

The Santa Claus Post Office has chosen the special 2022 picture postmark for the upcoming holiday season.

Officials say on December 1, the post office will begin offering the picture postmark to cancel the postage stamps on holiday mail again this year. This special picture postmark has been offered every Christmas season since 1983. Each year, the holiday postmark is designed by a local high school art student as part of an annual contest, and this year’s artist is Macey Bolin.

$1.1 million invested in water upgrades to support tourism in Santa Claus

Postmaster Cheryl Bailey says, “Patrons from all over the world request the Santa Claus holiday postmark. Some drive into town to personally hand cancel their holiday mail with the famous picture postmark and others request the special postmark by mail. The famous Santa Claus postmark is a long-standing tradition for the town and it’s always fun to see the unique artwork each year.”

Russia has once again accused the United Kingdom of 'directing and coordinating' explosions on the Nord Stream gas pipelines on the floor of the Baltic Sea in late September.

Three huge gas leaks, preceded by a series of explosions, occurred on the Baltic Sea's Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines on September 26. The blasts, according to Moscow, knocked out three of the four strings of the Nord Stream network off the coast of the Danish island of Bornholm.

Built to carry Russian gas to Germany, the 1,200-kilometer pipelines, operated by Russian gas giant Gazprom, are not currently in operation, but they both still contain gas under pressure.

The preliminary results of a Sweden-Denmark probe showed that the blasts had been "intentional sabotage." On October 29, Russia's Defense Ministry said that "British specialists" blew up the Nord Stream gas pipelines in a "terrorist attack," prompting London to reject the charges as an "invented story."
