The prosecution for the U.S., which is seeking to deny Julian Assange’s appeal of an extradition order, begun by the Trump administration and embraced by the Biden administration, grounded its arguments on Wednesday in the dubious affidavits filed by a U.S. federal prosecutor in the Eastern District of Virginia, Gordon Kromberg.

The charges articulated by Kromberg — often false — to make the case for extradition did not fly with the two High Court judges, Jeremy Johnson and Dame Victoria Sharp, who are overseeing Julian’s final appeal in the British courts.

The prosecuting attorneys, under questioning from the judges, were knocked off balance when challenged about the veracity of several of the claims which Kromberg made in support of the indictment against Julian. This was especially the case when the attorneys argued that the classified documents Julian released in 2010 — known as the Iraq and Afghan war logs — were not redacted. These unredacted documents, they told the court, jeopardized the lives of those named in the documents and caused some to “disappear.”

As defense lawyers Edward Fitzgerald KC and Mark Summers KC made clear, and the judges seemed to acknowledge, the documents were indeed redacted by Julian as he worked with media partners, such as The Guardian and The New York Times, when WikiLeaks published classified military documents concerning the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, along with U.S. State Department cables. The unredacted versions were first published by the website Cryptome after two reporters from The Guardian published a book with the passcode to the documents, leading to their publication by other online organizations.

In one sense the Ukraine conflict is over. In another sense it is dangerously expanding.

Biden and Putin are taking the path to nuclear war. Biden by providing long range missiles to Ukraine, and Putin by refusing to use sufficient force to bring the conflict to an end before it spins out of control.

To again repeat my warning, by allowing the war to drag on, Putin is inviting more provocations and more dangerous provocations. Putin’s way of fighting the conflict has cost far more lives than a quick and total military victory which would have been over before Western involvement could be organized.

The Kremlin should have seen the Maidan Coup in the works and stopped it. Failing this, the Kremlin should have accepted the request of Donbass in 2014 to be reincorporated into Russia like Crimea. Instead, the Kremlin sat on its hands for 8 years with a totally unrealistic belief in the Minsk Agreement while the US built an army for Ukraine, the Kremlin itself making little, if any, preparation. When the Kremlin finally was forced to intervene in Donbass, the bulk of the fighting was done by a small private military force, the leader of which was disgusted by the Kremlin’s defeatist restraint. Putin broke up this superb fighting force, and its leader died in a suspicious airplane crash.

The White House is steering the United States into a budgetary ditch it may not be able to get out of.

The Biden administration is supersizing the defense industry to meet foreign arms obligations instead of making tradeoffs essential to any effective budget. Its new National Defense Industrial Strategy lays out a plan to “catalyze generational change” of the defense industrial base and to “meet the strategic moment” — one rhetorically dominated by competition with China, but punctuated by U.S. support for Ukraine’s fight against Russia and Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

Instead of reevaluating its maximalist national security strategy, the Biden administration is doubling down. It is proposing a generation of investment to expand an arms industry that, overall, fails to meet cost, schedule, and performance standards. And if its strategy is any indication, the administration has no vision for how to eventually reduce U.S. military industrial capacity.

When the Cold War ended, the national security budget shrank. Then-Secretary of Defense Les Aspin and deputy William Perry convened industry leaders to encourage their consolidation in a meeting that later became known as the “Last Supper.” Arms makers were to join forces or go out of business. So they ended up downsizing from over 50 prime contractors to just five. And while contractors needed to pare down their industrial capacity, unchecked consolidation created the monopolistic defense sector we have now — one that depends heavily on government contracts and enjoys significant freedom to set prices.

While falsely claiming to have received “independent confirmation” of since-debunked assertions of mass rape by Hamas, the State Department’s spokesman said he “cannot independently verify” allegations by UN human rights experts that Israeli soldiers have sexually abused and systematically slaughtered Palestinian women and girls in the besieged Gaza Strip.

The US State Department has downplayed the findings of UN human rights experts who received “credible allegations” that Israeli soldiers have raped, tortured, and executed Palestinian women and girls amid their siege of Gaza.

US media has similarly overlooked the UN human rights report, focusing instead on yet another dubious report by the Israeli Association of Rape Crisis Centers alleging the deployment of “systematic sexual violence” by Hamas on October 7, 2023.

As The Grayzone’s Max Blumenthal reported, the Israeli report was “short on new research, absent of hard evidence, and reliant instead on clips from factually-challenged articles by the same Western outlets promoting its publication.” Its publication was funded by US-based Israel lobby heavyweights involved in a public relations scheme to justify the ongoing siege of Gaza.

A startup focused on developing general-purpose humanoids has attracted investments from Jeff Bezos, Nvidia Corp., and other major tech companies in its most recent funding round amid the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence bubble.

People familiar with the investing round told Bloomberg that Figure AI - backed by OpenAI and Microsoft Corp - is raising $675 million, with a pre-money valuation of approximately $2 billion. They said Bezo's firm, Explore Investments LLC, has committed $100 million. Microsoft has committed $95 million, while Nvidia and Amazon plan $50 million each.

The funding round is not yet complete, and the amounts could change, with the possibility that the deals could still fall apart.

Figure's AI-powered robot appears very similar in design to the Terminator assassin robot in the early 1990s film "Terminator."

In theory, the Supreme Court ruled against affirmative action in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard. In practice, it was, like Steven Farron predicted on this website, a “catastrophe.” In essence, the Supreme Court told employers, colleges, and other institutions that want to racially discriminate against whites and Asians that they simply need to disguise their intensions a bit more. It also did nothing to challenge the idea that “diversity” is a compelling state interest that justifies abolishing the equal protection of the laws.

Of course, asking Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) bureaucrats for subtlety is probably still too much. The Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Fairfax, Virginia, was once a prestigious magnet school for the gifted. However, high standards for academic institutions are de facto illegal in America. They will necessarily cause a “disparate impact” because not enough blacks and Hispanics will be able to gain admission.

While attempting to have the case involving the classified documents dismissed, former President Donald Trump has maintained that Special Counsel Jack Smith was appointed improperly.

On Thursday, Trump’s attorneys submitted several motions seeking the dismissal of the federal case. In response to accusations that he unlawfully kept classified materials after leaving office in January 2021 and thwarted efforts by the federal government to obtain them, the former president entered a not-guilty plea to 40 charges.

The contested claim that Trump can invoke absolute immunity is one of the arguments made by his attorneys. Additionally, Trump’s legal team argues that since he designated the materials as his records during his presidency, the Presidential Records Act permits him to retain them after leaving the White House.

Additionally, according to one of the filings, Attorney General Merrick Garland’s appointment of Smith in November 2022 was illegal because the Senate had not given its approval beforehand. The filing also mentioned that a prior argument had brought up the “serious problem,” which is why the Appointments and Appropriations clauses require this.

“The Appointments Clause does not permit the Attorney General to appoint, without Senate confirmation, a private citizen and like-minded political ally to wield the prosecutorial power of the United States,” Trump’s lawyers wrote.

“As such, Jack Smith lacks the authority to prosecute this action,” they added.

Former President Donald Trump urged a Florida judge to dismiss the criminal case accusing him of improperly retaining classified documents.

Trump claimed, in part, that presidential immunity shields him from prosecution.

Trump’s attorneys reiterated this in a motion that was part of a barrage of motions that attacked the case brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith.

This month, a federal appeals court in Washington soundly dismissed the arguments made by the lawyers in their 2020 election interference case.

In an attempt to push back the trial until after the November election, Trump has asked the United States Supreme Court to get involved in that case, the Associated Press reported.

Nathan Wade appeared to make at least 35 visits to the Hapeville neighborhood where Fani Willis was living before the district attorney hired him to lead Fulton County’s election interference prosecution, according to cellphone data included in a court submission filed Friday.

The filing, by attorneys for Donald Trump, raises fresh questions about the relationship between the two prosecutors, which the former president and other defendants argue has tainted the case against them and should result in Willis and her office being disqualified.

A new study has found that widespread voter fraud amid the 2020 US Presidential election tipped the scales in favor of Joe Biden, whereas Trump “almost certainly” would have won if this were not the case.

“Had the 2020 election been conducted like every national election has been over the past two centuries, wherein the vast majority of voters cast ballots in-person rather than by mail, Donald Trump would have almost certainly been re-elected,” the report noted. The Heartland Institute conducted the study and calculated 29 different scenarios of an election without mail-in voting, whereby Trump would have been the victor in all but three.

Far-left Vice.com, which was laughably valued at $5.7 billion in 2017, will stop publishing and could kill off its site entirely.

Let us now add Vice to the list of left-wing outlets to crash and burn of late: the Messenger, BuzzFeed News, and Jezebel have all closed entirely. The Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, and CNNLOL have all slashed up to hundreds of jobs.

According to the far-left Associated Press (AP), Vice employs about 900 staffers. How many of those 900 will be included in the “several hundred” layoffs announced Thursday is so far unknown.

But if Vice is no longer going to publish at Vice.com, I think we all know what that means for those 900…

And to those 900, I can only say that I’m here to help.

If you want someone to pretend to be sad that terrible people who hate me and lie to me are losing their jobs, I’m not your huckleberry.

When Donald Trump was president, the so-called ‘mainstream media’ spent a great deal of effort — often in real-time — engaging in what they considered to be “fact checks” of his statements, but a new analysis by a media expert finds such fact-checking has nearly disappeared under President Joe Biden.

In a finding that will no doubt add fuel to critics who accuse the vast majority of media outlets of having a pro-Democrat, far-left bias, media critic Joe Concha, in a column for The Hill, writes that “fact checkers are enjoying what feels like extended vacations or have simply checked out in terms of scrutinizing the many ways that he is misleading the public.”

CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale serves as a prime example of the lack of accountability surrounding the current president, Concha notes.

According to Mediaite, from June 2019 to November 2020, Dale appeared or was referenced on CNN more than once per day, on average. Using conservative estimates, this amounts to over 500 appearances or mentions on a national network within just 16 months.

Democrats’ hopes of holding a Senate seat in the blue state of Maryland might have just gotten crushed as a widely popular, moderate Republican is now in the running.

Former GOP Gov. Larry Hogan, who was comfortably elected twice statewide, launched a surprise Senate campaign on Feb. 9 for the seat currently held by retiring Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin. After receiving a batch of daunting poll numbers, several Maryland-based political operatives believe Hogan’s candidacy is upending the Democrats’ chances at holding what otherwise would’ve been an easy seat to retain, they told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

“Republicans view this as a gift, and the Democrats view it as a nightmare,” Paul Ellington, Republican strategist based in Maryland and former state GOP executive director, told the DCNF.

Hogan won the governor’s race in 2014 by nearly four points and secured a second term by roughly 12 points in 2018, becoming only the second Republican in state history to be reelected to the position. The then-governor battled non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma shortly after first taking office, and has been cancer-free since 2016.

Two Republican committee chairmen, James Comer of Kentucky and Jim Jordan of Ohio, have renewed their investigation into President Joe Biden, who allegedly may have attempted to hinder his son Hunter Biden’s cooperation with the House’s impeachment investigation.

An official White House statement suggested that President Joe Biden knew about Hunter’s plot to ignore congressional subpoenas in advance, which led to the investigation.

According to the statement, “In light of an official statement from the White House that President Biden was aware in advance that his son, Hunter Biden, would knowingly defy two congressional subpoenas, we are compelled to examine as part of our impeachment inquiry whether the President engaged in a conspiracy to obstruct a proceeding of Congress.”

New research funded by the Department of Energy has created a potentially revolutionary lithium battery that can be fully charged in only five minutes. State-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries, which power everything from mobile phones to electric cars, can take hours to fully charge, frustrating electric vehicle owners and high-volume phone users alike.

The Cornell University researchers behind the new lithium battery caution that the design has limitations, including a high weight that may make it impractical for some applications. Still, they say that their discovery could point the way to other materials that share the same fast-charging properties without the same limitations, potentially revolutionizing entire industries.

President Joe Biden has long brandished notecards at the White House and in sit-downs with world leaders, but now donors are throwing a flag on his use of the cheat sheets even in closed-door private events.

Biden has already broken with the traditional expectation that donors writing big checks to his campaign are entitled to a more off-the-cuff version of the president during closed-door fundraisers.

The president has repeatedly relied on a teleprompter in those settings, sometimes giving versions of his public speeches inside well-appointed homes, as he did during a fundraising swing through California this week. (Press cameras are usually not present, however).

Those frank exchanges are one reason donors plunk down as much as $3,300 and flock to events to get brief face time with the president.

In August of last year, we submitted an Arizona Public Records Law request to the Arizona Secretary of State. We sought “records regarding [then-]Secretary of State Katie Hobbs’s communications with Twitter (also known as X), Facebook (also known as Meta), Google (also known as Alphabet) or Instagram from January 7, 2019 to January 1, 2023.” Last August, reports broke that then-Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, who was running for Governor, used her government office to unconstitutionally censor her critics online.

As you know, Katie Hobbs is the current Governor of Arizona. She was elected in 2022 and assumed office on January 2, 2023. Previously, she was the Secretary of State of Arizona from 2019 to 2023.

In the latest tranche of documents sent to fulfill this request (provided February 1, 2024), there is an email from the then-Secretary of State’s Communications Director sent to Google staff, clarifying the process of reporting “dis/misinformation on Google or YouTube.” The email reads:

This is Murphy Hebert, the comms director for the Arizona Secretary of State, We are putting together our materials for the volunteers monitoring Twitter on Election Day. I have these protocols from the last cycle: If you see dis/misinformation on Google or YouTube, please get a screenshot and then send it, a link to the issue, and a description of what is inaccurate to all of the following people: Erica Arbetter (redacted)@google.com; Joe Dooley [redacted]@google.com; John Ruxton [redacted]@google.com; and Andrea Holtermann [redacted]@google.com. Are there any updates?

The liberal journal The Atlantic is reporting that unless they receive “guidance” from the U.S. Supreme Court, House Democrats might not certify the 2024 election if Trump wins.

Isn’t this the entire basis for the Democrat/Media freakout over January 6th? Isn’t this why so many Trump supporters are currently suffering in prison? Aren’t these the same Democrats who have been shrieking about the importance of ‘our democracy’ for years now?

It really looks as though their whole political philosophy boils down to nothing mattering unless they win.

A sadistic transgender woman has today been found guilty of murdering a BMW engineer in a 'Don't F*** with Cats' inspired killing.

Scarlet Blake, 26, battered and strangled Jorge Martin Carreno, 30, after stalking the streets of Oxford looking for a 'vulnerable victim' having been urged to kill by her gun and death-obsessed partner in America.

She targeted Carreno - who was a stranger to her - as he walked home from a night out in July 2021.

His body was found in the River Cherwell at Parsons Pleasure having drowned after receiving a blow to the back of his head and being strangled.

Blake – who had filmed herself dissecting and putting a neighbour's cat in a food blender four months before the cold-blooded murder – showed no emotion as a jury at Oxford Crown Court returned a guilty verdict.

The Democrats appear to be the New Stalinist Party. My conclusion is based on how they abuse law. President Trump has suffered eight years of legal abuse from Democrats and their corrupt prosecutors and judges.

It began with Russiagate led by the CIA, Justice (sic) Department, and FBI. It was a total orchestration long since disproved. Then there were a series of concocted nonsense allegations–strippergate, documents gate, insurrection gate and two concocted and failed impeachment attempts.

The Democrats then rescued their failed attempts by rolling them into indictments, which the Democrat controlled corrupt United States Justice (sic) Department and Soros-implanted Trump-hating Democrat state attorneys generals and district attorneys leveled against Trump. Some of these fake charges are falling apart, because the black female prosecutors are so stupid and incompetent that they have disqualified themselves and should actually face indictment for perjury. As US Senator J.D. Vance recently said, “It’s like every other two-minute clip I watch of this Fani Willis interview she admits to committing another felony.”

Two years ago on Feb. 24, 2022, the world watched as Russian tanks rolled into the outskirts of Kyiv and missiles struck the capital city.

Contrary to initial predictions, Kyiv never fell, but the country today remains embroiled in conflict. The front line holds in the southeastern region of the country, with contested areas largely focused on the Russian-speaking Donbas and port cities around the Black Sea.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, having recognized the Russian-occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk as independent days before the invasion, has from the beginning declared the war a “special military operation” to “demilitarize and denazify” Ukraine. His goals have alternated, however, between existential — bringing all of Ukraine into the influence of Russia — and strategic — laying claim to only those Russian-speaking areas in the east and south of the country.

It is in the latter that Russia has been much more successful. Yet after two winters of brutal fighting and hundreds of thousands of casualties on both sides, as of the end of 2023 Russia only laid claim to 18% of Ukraine’s territory, as compared to 7% on the eve of the war and 27% in the weeks after the invasion.

Meanwhile, the West’s coffers have been opened — and, as some say, drained — to help Ukraine’s government, led by President Volodymyr Zelensky, defend itself against Moscow.

Regardless, Ukraine’s military forces have been wholly depleted as they compete with a much more resourced and populous Russia. While Ukraine’s military campaign was able to take advantage of Russian tactical mistakes in the first year, its much-heralded counteroffensive in 2023 failed to provide the boost needed not only to rid the country of the Russian occupation, but also to put Kyiv in the best position to call for terms.

If anything, as Quincy Institute experts Anatol Lieven and George Beebe point out in their new brief, “there is now little realistic prospect of further Ukrainian territorial gains on the battlefield, and there is a significant risk that Ukraine might exhaust its manpower and munitions and lay itself open to a devastating Russian counterattack.”

The only and best solution, they say, is to drive all sides to the negotiating table before Ukraine is destroyed.

The narrative of the war — how it began, where it is today — is well documented. On the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, RS thought it might be instructive to look at the numbers — weapons, aid, polling, population, and more — that illustrate the cost and the contours of the conflict over 24 months, and counting.

Money spent

  •
    •

The U.S. Congress has allocated a total of $113 billion in funding related to the war. The vast majority of this money went directly to defending Ukraine ($45.2 billion in military aid) and keeping its government and society functioning ($46 billion in economic and humanitarian aid). Other funds went to rearming allies ($4.7 billion) and expanding U.S. military operations in Europe ($15.2 billion).

After two years of war, that funding has dried up. The Biden administration, which once shipped two or three new weapons packages each month, has not sent Ukraine a major arms shipment since Dec. 27, 2023. As Congress struggles to pass an additional $60 billion in Ukraine-related funding, observers increasingly believe that aid package may have been the last.

Claire's Observations:  It doesn't seem to matter which of the two parties is in power in this country; one of the standing prerequisites for any kind of analytical job in DC, is the inability to think a scenario through to its logical conclusion; this is precisely what happened with Afghanistan and Iraq, and now with Ukraine and Russia.

The numbers on the money spent, are staggeringly high, and no, even with sanctions, the Russian economy has not been diminished, but has grown (they also have a credit balance in the Russian Federation's accounting, rather than a huge deficit, as does the US Federal Government).

The only logical thing to do now, is to either get Zelinsky to sue for peace, and get the best possible deal for Ukraine he can at the moment, or the US needs to find someone who will have the horse-sense to do it now, with whom Zelinsky can be replaced.

And I have to wonder;  what on earth does Zelinsky possibly have on the Bidens, that this hasn't already happened?!?  Whatever it is, it has to be monumentally horrific.

Political scientist Ivan Katchanovski – of the University of Ottawa – revealed last year, in a paper, that the February 2014 massacre of Ukrainian protesters by sniper fire, a defining moment of the Western-backed Maidan coup, was not published by an academic journal for “political reasons.”

‘The evidence is solid’

In a lengthy Twitter thread, Katchanovski first laid out the circumstances behind the rejection of his article, and the bombshell evidence included in it. The paper was initially accepted with minor revisions after peer review, and the journal's editor offered a glowing appraisal of his work, writing:

“There is no doubt that this paper is exceptional in many ways. It offers evidence against the mainstream narrative of the regime change in Ukraine in 2014… It seems to me that the evidence the study produces in favour of its interpretation on who was behind the massacre of the protesters and the police during the ‘Euromaidan’ mass protests on February 18-20, 2014, in Ukraine, is solid. On this there is also consensus among the two reviewers.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formally unveiled his plan for Gaza’s future after the conflict with Hamas ends, placing a strong emphasis on the “deradicalization” of the Palestinian enclave.

The one-page document titled ‘The Day After Hamas” was submitted to the Israeli government for discussion on Thursday, setting out proposed actions for the immediate, medium, and long term.

It reiterates Netanyahu’s stance that the Israel Defence Forces will “continue the war until the complete destruction of the military capabilities and governmental infrastructure of Hamas,” and until Israeli hostages are returned and a robust security architecture is in place.
