Toxic chemicals in fertilizers made from sewage sludge are linked to dead livestock and fouled groundwater on farms in Johnson County, Texas, according to Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER). The County has opened a criminal investigation into these events, and, while the investigation is ongoing, they are holding public hearings to warn residents so they can take protective action.

The biosolid fertilizer manufacturer Synagro has more than a thousand municipal wastewater facilities as its customers across North America, and took over the biosolids program for the City of Fort Worth in 2020. Two farm families in Grandview, Texas, complained of horrific smells coming from a neighboring absentee farm property after land application of biosolids from Synagro in December of 2022. The families have also experienced the death of ten cows and a horse, and an alarming concentration of contaminants on their properties.

Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are toxic to humans in concentrations as small as parts per quadrillion. The levels found in the samples from the farms were vastly higher. Known as “forever chemicals” because they do not break down in the environment, the adverse health impacts of PFAS are well documented.

Yemen’s Houthis targeted an Israel-linked container ship deep in the Arabian Sea, demonstrating an ability to hit targets at a long range after Houthi Leader Sayyed Abdul-Malik al-Houthi vowed to expand attacks into the Indian Ocean.

The attack on the MSC Orion took place last Friday but was just confirmed by maritime authorities on Tuesday. The crew of the vessel said they discovered debris that looked like a drone and reported minor damage and said no one was hurt.

According to the Joint Maritime Information Center, the ship was hit in the Indian Ocean about 170 miles south of the Yemeni island of Socotra, which is not controlled by the Houthis, and about 400 miles from the Yemeni mainland.

The MSC Orion is owned by London-based Zodiac Maritime, which is part of Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer’s Zodiac Group. The Houthis began targeting Israel-linked shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden last year in response to the Israeli slaughter in Gaza and expanded to targeted American and British shipping after the US and UK began a new bombing campaign in Yemen on January 12.

He had been in good health, and 'was noted for having a healthy lifestyle,' according to the report.

He had been in critical condition for two weeks, according to his aunt Carol Parsons, who said he became ill and went to the hospital due to breathing difficulties. He was intubated, after which he developed pneumonia and then MRSA, a serious bacterial infection.

His condition deteriorated rapidly, and he was airlifted from Wichita to a hospital in Oklahoma City, Parsons said. There he was put on an ECMO machine, which circulates and oxygenates a patient’s blood outside the body, taking over heart and lung function when a patient’s organs don’t work on their own. -Seattle Times

Doctors had considered amputating both hands and both feet.

"It was brutal what he went through," said Parsons. "Heartbreaking."

Families flocked to see a haunting collection of military 'trophies' brought back to Russia from Ukrainian battlefields on Wednesday as the country marked a public holiday at Moscow's Victory Park.

Armoured vehicles from a dozen NATO countries, as well as drones, rocket launchers and American tanks, were displayed in the symbolic space dedicated to Russia's triumph over the Nazis in World War II.

The army did not say where exactly where the rows of armoured vehicles were captured - or at what cost - only that they came from Russian-occupied eastern and southern Ukraine.

Among them, visitors could goggle at a British Army Husky, the windshield shot up from conflict with British and NATO flags shown in the windscreen.

More than two years into Russia's Ukraine offensive, the mood was one of admiration and patriotism - but also of fear in the face of a dragging conflict with no end in sight.

Emmanuel Macron has said he would be prepared to send troops to Ukraine if Vladimir Putin's forces break through the front lines - further raising the risk of NATO forces clashing with Russia's armies.

In an interview published today, the French president said the issue of sending troops would 'legitimately' arise if Kyiv and president Volodymyr Zelensky made such a request.

The Economist said Macron gave the interview after delivering a keynote speech last week where he declared that Europe is 'mortal' and could 'die' partly due to the threat posed by Russian aggression after its February 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

It also came as Russia claimed its forces had taken another town in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine, with Moscow's armies continuing to push against Kyiv's defences.

By Joseph Stepansky

The sun was casting shadows onto the green grass of Dunn Meadow at Indiana University Bloomington, as a line of police carrying batons and shields moved forward.

Across from the police stood a daisy chain of protesters, their arms linked in front of a newly established pro-Palestine encampment. The cluster of tents resembled dozens of other encampments set up at universities across the United States in recent weeks, as demonstrations against Israel’s war in Gaza reached a fever pitch.

College campuses in the US have long been bastions of academic freedom and political protest, and Indiana University was no exception. For 55 years, Dunn Meadow had been its designated “assembly ground”, an area the university itself described as a “public forum for expression on all subjects”.

But that changed on April 24, as university administrators swiftly revised policies that had been on the books since 1969.

While the university had previously allowed “the use of signs, symbols or structures” for protests on the meadow, the change banned temporary structures without prior approval. The very next day, police appeared to dismantle the encampment — and arrest students.

The move catapulted Indiana University to the forefront of a heated debate: Are those protesting the war in Gaza facing disproportionate challenges to their rights to free speech and expression?

“Students and faculty and community members have gathered at this meadow for decades, and it has never been met with this,” said Benjamin Robinson, a professor of Germanic studies at the university who joined the protesters on April 25.

He was ultimately arrested, along with about 50 other demonstrators, all of whom received an immediate year-long ban from campus.

“Now I’m seeing this militarised, overwhelming, disproportionate show of force,” Robinson told Al Jazeera. “It makes you wonder: Why this time? Why is this time different?"

Claire's Observations:  Professor Robinson this time is different, because Israel wants the world to conflate the concept of  "self defence" with "genocide against the Palestinian people", and the world is just  not cooperating.  This has been courtesy to some very ballsy Middle Eastern reporters and photographers who have borne witness to the carnage Israel has created, and is still creating, in Gaza. They many times have risked death to do this, but have persisted, against some incredible odds.

This is why the AAA Act, the so-called "Antisemitism Awareness Act, has just been passed, by a bought- and paid-for US Congress, which has proven itself,  time after time, ready for sale, just  like a commodity (think:  pork bellies), for the best price.

This Act is apt to lead to prosecutions against Christians quoting ANY portion of the Bible which might possibly be, in the slightest way, derogatory against historical or contemporary Jews.

I would imagine that Bible publishers are frantically "editing out" the "naughty bits", like Eve, eating the apple  against God's command, or the Israelites worshiping the Golden Calf, when Moses was away.

What we have known as the Christian Bible,  is going to be one slim book, looking like it OD'd on Ozempic, by the time the zealots get their way.  Oh, and let's not forget a  potential coming "house to house search" to "purge" homes of Bibles which to  NOT conform to the AAA's standards; perhaps they will be burned to destroy them,  as in Germany's "Kristallnacht", or the film "Fahrenheit  451".  Who knows?!?

So Professor Robinson, THIS is why "this time" is different for Israel, and thinking Americans need to take notice.

It seems like a lot of people just can’t hardly wait for war. From mainstream news media to even the best of alternative news sources, commentators and pundits, everyone seems to be salivating at the idea of World War Three.

I find it interesting to note that during World War 1, we didn’t call it “World War 1,” because we didn’t recognize it as the first of many. It was first called the “European War.” Then American newspapers called it “World War.” And the British called it the “Great War.” Soldiers fighting and families left at home had no idea they were fighting “World War 1.” Then, it was FDR who first used the term “World War 2” in 1941. But soldiers fighting and those at home didn’t realize they were fighting “World War 2” until Roosevelt named it that. But today, people seem so eager for World War 3. Even regular, everyday citizens seemed giddy at the idea of World War 3. It’s on everyone’s minds and it seems virtually inevitable.

As we look at current world events, it does appear that a war to engulf the globe has already been set in motion. Like wars we’ve seen in the past, alliances are being formed. The BRICS nations, consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates have been in allegiance since 2009. Also at that table, you could add North Korea, Iraq, Turkey, Syria and Afghanistan.

Brazil surpassed 4 million cases of dengue fever registered this year, according to an update from the Ministry of Health's Arbovirus Monitoring Panel this Monday. Argentina now has its own outbreak.

In total, 4,127,571 probable cases of the disease were reported across the country in the first four months of 2024.

As for dengue deaths, 1,937 have been confirmed and 2,345 are under investigation. The incidence rate of the disease in the country is 2,032.7 cases for each group of 100,000 population.

The most affected age group is 20 to 29 years old, which accounts for the majority of cases. The least affected age group is children under 1 year old, followed by people aged 80 or over and children aged 1 to 4 years old.

The units of the Federation with the highest incidence of the disease are the Federal District, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Espírito Santo, Goiás and Santa Catarina.

Projections released at the beginning of the year indicate that dengue cases in the country could reach  4,225,885.  With the country already seeing over 4.1 Million cases, that estimate is way low.

It is noteworthy that about 6 weeks ago Bill Gates & Oxitec released genetically modified mosquitoes in Brazil.

The FBI took over a 2020 probe into voter registration fraud that began in Michigan but has denied a Freedom of Information Act request regarding the investigation, citing an exemption in that law regarding ongoing investigations.

According to the dozens of pages of police reports from the Muskegon Police Department and Michigan State Police, a firm called GBI Strategies was under scrutiny as an organization central to alleged voter registration fraud in the 2020 presidential election. The matter was initially investigated by city and state authorities before the FBI took over.

Contacts between local law enforcement and the FBI continued into 2022 but there is no evidence of what happened after that in the memos obtained by Just the News through requests made under Michigan's own Freedom of Information Act.

Last week, the FBI denied a Freedom of Information/Privacy Acts request from Just the News regarding records from the investigation into GBI Strategies.

The request sought “copies of all reports, documents, and records about GBI Strategies, including all communication and correspondence regarding investigations of GBI Strategies with Michigan government officials, city and state law enforcement agencies in Michigan, and all other state government officials and law enforcement agencies involved in investigations of GBI Strategies.”

The FBI’s response partially reads: “The material you requested is located in an investigative file which is exempt from disclosure.”

The Fujian, China’s third aircraft carrier, also the first equipped with electromagnetic catapults, on Wednesday started its first sea trial session, a move analysts said will test newly integrated technology and lay a solid foundation for the commissioning of the 80,000 ton-class warship.

Experts said the Fujian can be compared with the most advanced aircraft carriers in the world, and can undoubtably represent the top level of conventionally powered aircraft carriers.

The aircraft carrier Fujian set sail for its first test voyage from a pier at the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai on Wednesday morning, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

Inside the prisons at Abu Ghraib run by Saddam Hussien during his 35-year regime taken in May 2003 in Baghdad, Iraq. A U.S. military contractor is about to head to trial over allegations that it participated in a conspiracy to torture detainees at Abu Ghraib prison during the Iraq War—20 years after infamous images of the abuse were seen around the globe.

The plaintiffs, three Iraqis detained and tortured at Abu Ghraib, originally sued military contractor CACI, which provided interrogators for the prison, in 2008. Now the civil trial, which is expected to last two weeks, is scheduled to start Monday in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va. The legal proceedings represent the first time Abu Ghraib victims will present their claims to a U.S. jury, the Center for Constitutional Rights, which is representing the plaintiffs, has said.

Webmaster addition: And what about the President who, after lying about Iraq's nuclear weapons, authorized the torture?

Meet the ‘homegrown violent extremism’ researcher behind the crackdown on pro-Palestinian students at USC

Erroll Southers is a top USC administrator facing demands to resign after canceling a valedictorian commencement speech and cracking down on protestors. He has also produced research labeling identifying with Palestinians as a sign of radicalization.

Student protestors at the University of Southern California, not a place usually known for its campus activism, have thrown the school into crisis. Administrators cancelled the commencement speech of their Muslim, Pro-Palestinian valedictorian after a pressure campaign from Zionists threatening the speaker. They then called LAPD onto campus to brutally arrest 93 students protesting Israel’s genocide in Gaza. And now, administrators have abruptly canceled the universities’ 65,000-attendee “main-stage” commencement event, and other commencement speakers have launched a boycott.

The key administrators who made these decisions are facing calls from their own faculty to resign. Among them is Erroll Southers, the university’s “Associate Senior Vice President of Safety and Risk Assurance”, who oversees USC’s campus police and collaboration with LAPD. The L.A. Times notes that not only was Southers involved in the decision to silence Asna Tabassum but that the university has “referred questions about security” to him.

Who is Erroll Southers?

A longtime police official, Erroll Southers is a prominent figure within LA city politics. He is the president of LAPD’s Board of Police Commissioners, the “civilian” oversight body that rubber stamps every LAPD expenditure. LAPD’s Police Commission purports to offer a forum for public conversation and input. However, at a Police Commission Community Meeting at Bishop Alemany High School just after Tabassum’s speech was canceled, Southers and his Police Commission colleagues shut down every public comment about Tabassum as “off-topic” and forcibly ejected three public commenters – all of them Black men – from the meeting.

Claire's Observations:  The irony here is palpable, and impossible to ignore.

un peacekeepers in haiti

The Biden administration’s plan to restore order to Haiti by sending an armed international force has hit another snag: the base that will house the soldiers will not be ready by the date they are set to arrive in the Caribbean nation.

Jake Johnston from the Center for Economic and Policy Research told POLITICO that the Kenyan-led forces will arrive in Haiti on May 23; however, the US-constructed base they will be stationed at will not be completed by that time.

Washington and Nairobi are eyeing that date to begin the operations in Port-au-Prince as Kenyan President William Ruto is scheduled to be in the US on that day, officials confirmed to POLITICO.

Johnston said that a second issue is the deployment will be far smaller than initially discussed. While the US plan called for 1,000 Kenyan armed men to be joined by thousands of soldiers from several other countries, Johnston told POLITICO that only 200 Kenyans are scheduled to deploy to Haiti.

It is unclear if the force will be able to carry out its mission to restore order and hand control of Haiti to a new US-backed transitional government. In 2021, Haitian President Jovenal Moise was assassinated, creating a power vacuum. Washington facilitated Ariel Henry’s rise to power.

Claire's Observations:  Absoflippinglutely unbelievable, but thoroughly predictable.  And please remember; the gangs fighting each other, are competing for the sack-fulls of money which come from drug and weapons trans-shipment operations just off Haiti's shores.

One has to wonder if there are certain elements in various governments internationally, who would love to see these efforts fail spectacularly, as they are reaping too much money from these actions to want them to stop

The House of Representatives passed the “Antisemitism Awareness Act” (H.R. 6090) on Wednesday, which has sparked significant debate over the interpretation of religious texts and the definition of hate speech.

The bill, aimed at curbing hate speech amid heightened tensions on college campuses concerning Israel, has seen a significant majority of Republicans in support, while a coalition of Democrats and Republicans opposed it, citing free speech concerns.

It passed with a vote of 320-91, seeing opposition from 70 Democrats and 21 Republicans. The bill was introduced by Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., and supported by 15 Democratic co-sponsors.

I’m proud that my bill, the Antisemitism Awareness Act, just passed the House of Representatives 320 to 91. This bill has broad, bipartisan support and will begin the process of cracking down on the antisemitism we’ve seen run rampant on college campuses across America,” Rep. Lawler wrote.

The bill defines antisemitism broadly, incorporating definitions provided by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), including traditional antisemitic actions and accusations such as those against the state of Israel. Critically, the bill makes it an offense to “apply double standards” to Israel or to accuse it of genocide, categorizing such actions as hate speech.

Former US President Donald Trump has refused to rule out withholding military aid to Israel to force an end to the war in Gaza if he is reelected. Once a stalwart defender of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump has argued that the Israeli leader and his military have bungled the war with Hamas.

In an interview with Time magazine published on Tuesday, Trump stood by his insistence last month that Israel should “finish up [its] war” before it loses any more international support.

The Libertarian Party’s unprecedented decision to give the presumptive Republican nominee for president a platform at the third-party group’s 2024 nominating convention will allow Trump to court voters beyond his GOP base.
