“When the taste for physical gratifications among them has grown more rapidly than their education . . . the time will come when men are carried away and lose all self-restraint . . . . It is not necessary to do violence to such a people in order to strip them of the rights they enjoy; they themselves willingly loosen their hold. . . . they neglect their chief business which is to remain their own masters.” -- Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America: Volume 2

Renowned MSNBC guest and Morning Joe contributor, Donny Deutsch, recently emphasized the imperative for Democrats to instill fear in the populace regarding the potential re-election of Trump in 2024.

In a candid discussion with host Nicolle Wallace, Deutsch underscored the significance of this strategy, stating, "Democrats need to ‘scare the s**t out of people’."

Deutsch, known for his adeptness at stoking apprehension, has consistently employed this tactic throughout various election cycles. He proposed a bold approach for Democrats, suggesting the utilization of esteemed figures such as General Mark Milley to caution Americans about the perceived threat posed by Trump. Despite acknowledging Milley's credibility, Deutsch expressed skepticism about the public's receptiveness to such warnings.

President Biden’s pitch to win election and now to win reelection is that he is a man of compassion.

From letting millions of migrants into the country without vetting to canceling billions of dollars of student loan debts, Mr. Biden’s policies have been predicated on the notion that he is compassionate and cares about the so-called little people.

But behind the scenes, it’s a different story.

For almost a year, Mr. Biden took no action to protect his Secret Service agents from vicious bites by his German Shepherd Commander. Now, with a Freedom of Information Act disclosure, we know that Mr. Biden’s Secret Service agents endured 24 dog-biting incidents involving Commander, including one that led to an agent receiving six stitches to his arm. A uniformed Secret Service officer bitten by Commander in the fall of 2022 needed treatment at a hospital.

Volker Turk says it is essential to avoid conflagration of conflict, which could have repercussions for region and beyond.

United Nations human rights chief Volker Turk says the war in Gaza is a “powder keg” that could ignite a wider conflict with serious repercussions for the Middle East and beyond.

In an address to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday, Turk said he was deeply concerned that the war – now in its 150th day – had already generated dangerous spillover in neighbouring countries.

“Any spark could lead to a much broader conflagration,” Turk warned. “This would have implications for every country in the Middle East, and many beyond it.”

Claire's Observations:  OK,  HR Chief Turk, you've pontificated and virtue signaled enough;  but what are you going to DO about it?!?

When are you stepping on to that UN plane, bound for Tel Aviv, and make your announcement that, due to Israel's intransigence on a cease-fire, the UN, even with the US's veto against it, will immediately begin a B/D/S action by ALL UN members against Israel?!?

And trust me, Israelis are fluent in at least two languages;  Hebrew, and economics!!!

The popular chip brand Doritos, owned by PepsiCo, recently announced their decision to promote controversial transgender activist and music star Sarah Hudson as their brand ambassador in Spain.

The 24-year-old Hudson, whose real name is Iván González Ranedo, was recently announced as the new brand ambassador in Spain over the weekend, featured in a 50-second trailer by the company.

This recent endorsement caused some people to look a little deeper into who Hudson is. Upon further research, citing a Telegram account for some of the evidence, Pravda reported: “Hudson advocates the “total destruction and abolition of the traditional family”, identifies as a non-binary trans girl, openly mocks victims of child abuse.”

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) reveals she was proud to vote uncommitted in the Michigan primary on Tuesday, where she cast a protest vote against President Joe Biden Biden amid frustration over the war in Gaza.

According to Daily Mail, Tlaib posted a video on X as she walked away from a polling place. This came the same day when numerous Arab American voters followed the lead of activists. The aim was to push the uncommitted vote on the Democratic ballot as a way to deliver a message about the Israel-Hamas war and demand a ceasefire.

“I was proud today to walk in and pull a Democratic ballot and vote uncommitted. We must protect our democracy. We must make sure our government is about us, about the people,” she said in the video. “When 74% of Democrats in Michigan support a ceasefire, yet President Biden isn’t hearing us, this is a way we can use our democracy to say, listen, Listen to Michigan .. No more using our dollars to fund a genocide.

The newest New York Times/Sienna College poll shows President Joe Biden is down bad — and the Biden campaign is having a difficult time coping with that reality.

Released on Saturday, the poll shows:

  • Donald Trump leads Biden: The former president commands a respectable 5-point lead over Biden — 48% to 43% — with just eight months until Election Day
  • Country going the wrong way: The overwhelming majority of registered voters — 65% to 24% — believe the country is headed in the wrong direction
  • Biden approval: The majority of respondents — 61% — disapprove of Biden's job as president, including 47% who "strongly disapprove"; only 36% who approve
  • Favorability: More registered voters have a favorable opinion of Trump than Biden, 43% to 38%
  • Biden too old: A majority, 73%, of respondents said Biden is too old to be president, compared to just 42% who said the same of Trump
  • What can you do for me: Fewer than 20% of registered voters believe Biden's policies have helped them, whereas 40% said Trump's personally helped them
  • Economy is bad: A majority of respondents, 51%, described the economy as "poor," while another 23% described it as "only fair"

The survey, moreover, "offers an array of warning signs" for Biden that his weaknesses are splintering the Democratic coalition, according to the New York Times.

Pennsylvania State Police placed a trooper on restricted duty after he arrested the head of Philadelphia's Office of LGBT Affairs along with her husband during a traffic stop over the weekend in the city, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

A portion of Saturday's arrest of Celena Morrison and her husband Darius McLean — CEO of a transgender resource center — was caught on video.

While state police charged the couple with resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, disorderly conduct, and summary traffic citations, the paper said the office of city District Attorney Larry Krasner declined the charges, and Morrison and McLean were released from custody Saturday evening.

CNN host Michael Smerconish educated his own audience on Saturday after they overwhelmingly approved the Justice Department taking Donald Trump to trial before the 2024 election.

Last week, the Supreme Court agreed to hear Trump's appeal that presidential immunity protects him from criminal prosecution in special counsel Jack Smith's election interference case.

The decision triggered weeping and gnashing of teeth among liberals because the court set oral arguments for the week of April 22. That means the justices will likely not issue a decision until the end of June. And with court proceedings halted until their decision, Trump's trial will not begin until late summer — at the earliest.

That timeline presents a major problem: DOJ policy specifically prohibits interfering in elections and being swayed by political winds, and rushing Trump's trial could run afoul of that long-standing policy.

As Gaza's Hunger Crisis Worsens, Emaciated Children Seen at Hospitals

Palestinian mother Anwar Abdulnabi cries over the body of her daughter Mila, who had been suffering from deficiencies of calcium and potassium, at Kamal Adwan hospital on the edges of Beit Lahiya, in the northern Gaza Strip March 2, 2024. REUTERS/Osama Abu Rbaya

By Bassam Masoud and Mohammed Salem

RAFAH, Gaza Strip (Reuters) -Two Palestinian toddlers with sunken eyes and emaciated faces, one in a yellow cardigan and the other in a stripy top, were lying side by side on a bed in a Gaza clinic, their thin, bony legs protruding from diapers that looked too big for them.

"We will face a large number of patients who suffer from this, which is malnutrition," she said.

The toddler in the yellow cardigan, Ahmed Qannan, weighed 6 kg (13.2 lb), half of his pre-war body weight, according to his aunt, Israa Kalakh, who was by his side.

War in Israel and Gaza

"His situation worsens each day. God protect us from what is coming," she told Reuters.

Nearly five months into Israel's air and ground assault on the Gaza Strip and resulting mass displacement, acute shortages of food have led to what the United Nations is describing as a nutrition crisis, part of a wider humanitarian catastrophe.

Gaza's Health Ministry said on Sunday that 15 children had died of malnutrition or dehydration at Kamal Adwan hospital in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza, the part of the enclave where the lack of food is most extreme.

"The unofficial numbers can unfortunately be expected to be higher," said World Health Organization spokesperson Christian Lindmeier.

The worsening hunger crisis has intensified criticism of Israel on the world stage, including from U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, whose country is Israel's staunchest ally. She said on Sunday that people in Gaza were starving, calling on Israel to do more to significantly increase the flow of aid.

"My daughter, my beautiful daughter, my gentle daughter has passed away," cried Abdulnabi. She later said through her tears that Mila had been suffering from calcium and potassium deficiencies, but did not specify what caused the child's death.

Dr Ahmad Salem, who works in the hospital's intensive care unit, said one of the factors in the high number of child deaths there was that new mothers were themselves malnourished.

"The mothers cannot breastfeed their children. We do not have formula milk. This has led to the deaths of children here in the intensive care unit. Also in the nursery, there are numerous deaths," he said

Claire's Observations:  Take a good, hard look at that mom, cradling her dead child; now, imagine, for one moment, that was YOUR child.

How would you feel, at the government which caused this, and the other government which enabled it, with their bombs and bullets, not letting desperately needed humanitarian aid through to children like this?!?

Right now, to much of the rest of the world, Israel and the US look like the collective backsides of braying donkeys, for conflating Israel's "self-defense" with "genocide".

IF EVER there was a reason to peacefully protest, now is that time.   There desperately needs to be a viable cease-fire, so that we do NOT have hundreds more Palestinian children, dying in this way.  Of course, Netanyahu and his minions LOVE when Palestinian kids die this way;after all,  it saves on US-supplied bullets and bombs!!

Who remembers what got President Johnson to NOT run for a second term, when he was one of the principal cheer-leaders for the Vietnam War?!?  It was the thousands of peaceful protestors outside his window, and he knew that should he run again, these people, and this country, would turn against him in the coming elections.

This country needs a peace movement, and a peace caucus, made up of EVERYONE; men, women;  and people of faith, who believe very strongly, that genocide - ALL GENOCIDE - is morally wrong,   As long as the First Amendment exists, we need to not be afraid to lift our collective voice and get heard.

I have come back to posting on this site, because I can no longer remain silent on this, and other issues which I find challenging to me, as an American; and right now, with Israel's actions, silence.... is complicity.  I will not be complicit here.

And let me end, with a scenario which keeps me up at night.  What if Iran is savagely attacked by the US/UK/ and Israel, and Russia and China decide to come to its aid, militarily?

Russia has weaponry to which the US isn't even coming close, as outlined by President Putin in his weekend speech to the Russian Federation.  The US doesn't have the weaponry; the troop strength; the money, or the manufacturing to begin to defend Israel against that powerful a combo.  And Lord, please:  that some Adult in the room in the US is able to shake Netanyahu up enough to realize that his dreams of Eretz Israel (The "Greater" Israel) is very likely to cause the entire world to explode.

Of course, he and Sarah have been moved to gated housing in Jerusalem with survival bunkers, where they can wait out Armageddon in comfort.  So does he really care about the rest of humanity?!?  Most probably,  not so much.

In a potentially groundbreaking discovery, a significant helium deposit has been unearthed in Minnesota, which could be one of the largest in the world, as reported by WCCO-TV in Minneapolis.

The drilling site, located just outside Babbitt in the northeastern region of the state, reached a depth of 2,200 feet within a month of breaking ground.

Pulsar Helium CEO, Thomas Abraham-James, described the discovery as "a dream." He told WCCO, "There was a lot of screaming, a lot of hugging and high fives. It’s nice to know the efforts all worked out and we pulled it off." The helium concentration found at the site was 12.4 percent, nearly 30 times the industry standard, and even surpassed the company's projections. "12.4% is just a dream. It’s perfect," Abraham-James stated.
